Totally agree, Marica! This is a game changer. What Gab is doing is what the internet is supposed to be, not a bunch of big monopolies controlling everything. Just reading that thread has me really excited. Once people understand the concept, I think the user base will explode! It could leave the Big Tech giants with platforms that look like MySpace today. I just hope Gab is getting all the bugs out of their platform before it launches, though. Right now I find Gab hard to use compared to Twitter.
See, that’s the real beauty of their idea. Other people can build different interfaces into the system. And they can leverage off code that’s already there. I mean – Gab Blogs(TM) is possible. Just a bit of a tweak, and somebody could make the interface more like WORDPRESS.

I do not think that is going to fly this time around.
1. President Trump as candidate had to suffer through the Astro-Turf Protests organized by Bob Creamer at San Jose and at Chicago. Project Veritas EXPOSED Creamer.
2. As I have said before AG Sessions + PDJT can get a FISA warrant without going through the courts if both agree. The warrant is for ONE YEAR not three months. I think this is why PDJT has continued to ‘bad mouth’ Sessions. Those warrants could still be running.
3. Over 200 were arrested during the Inauguration riots. The judge allowed the Trump Admin to gather limited info from the website that organized those riots. They were able to get information like IP address of members not visitors.
4. ANTIFA threatened MAJOR RIOTS in November of 2017. They never happened….
5. Over 100,000 sealed indictments….

They’ve been re-introducing wolves back into WA state. There are four wolf packs, three in the east and one that runs down to Oregon.
What’s wrong? Well, the wolves they are introducing aren’t the native wolves. We used to have timber wolves and they are introducing Alaskan wolves. What’s the difference? Timber wolves are about half the size of Alaskan wolves. Alaskans are often bigger than a six foot tall man.
The downside? Alaskans like killing cattle. We’re getting close to ranchers deciding not to wait for a wolf to take livestock before shooting it (that’s when it’s legal to take down a wolf).

5. Coyotes are NOT scared of people since they are not hunted. They are now invading suburbs and even cities. When they finish wiping out your cats and dogs they start on your toddlers. The news WILL NOT PRINT THIS except in local papers.

we’ve got coyotes here in our woods. One spring, we were watching turkeys come up the mountain–and I’m talking hundreds of turkeys. As we watched, we observed 3 coyotes “herding” the turkeys–one was aggressive on one flank and herded the turkeys towards the other two who were waiting to kill as any as they could. Hubby got out the shotgun because the coyotes were getting toooooo close to the house for comfort. He never got a good shot off tho cuz they never stand still. The only way to get them to stand still is to whistle–they stop for a second or two.
my son-in-law, the farmer, often sees coyotes on his farm and he shoots them whenever he can. he never goes anywhere without a gun–they are opportunists.

Neighbors have had pets disappear – and – one night my daughter heard them get someone’s little dog. It was pitiful. Some neighbors in the larger lot parts of our neighborhood have been shooting the coyotes…have heard the gunshots.
Haven’t seen our herd of deer this year either.
We have coyotes here as well. In the woods behind our house, you can hear screams throughout the night of small animals being killed. By coyotes and yes, owls. When you hear coyotes yip , they are on the move. It’s spooky. We’ve also had them in our backyard.
I’ve read for years, big insurance companies imported coyotes into the eastern part of the country to thin deer population. Deer cause a lot of accidents around here.
We have quite a few here in East TN. I keep a scoped 22-250 handy just for them. They deplete the turkey, deer, pets, and livestock mostly. we have open season on them with no limits.
I have six dogs, four Anatolians. The coyotes used to have a path right up our driveway to a watering hole way at the back of our neighbor’s acreage. Not anymore. They have to skirt on either side of our land now.
They would not dare attack. I have seen one of my dogs put a pitbull/ mastiff mix down in 20 seconds flat.
Fyi, Anatolians make great house dogs and will guard your kids like a militant nanny. About the most perfect big dog out there.
Not every one can have a pack of dogs, but it comes in handy.

They really are about the best dogs ever. They hate fighting but will do it with a vengeance if they or their livestock/family are threatened. They are not high energy so they do well in homes. They like other dogs and are usually gentle with dominance issues.
My biggest beef is some do like to wander. One of mine escaped her two acre yard and we found her three days later at the school…sitting on the steps being petted by all the kids. Someone had been feeding her. 😂
No. Bad idea. Wolves hate coyotes and will kill them whenever possible. Foxes and wolves can co-exist nicely because they complement each other in sharing territory. Both species hate coyotes. Foxes are direct competitors with coyotes and coyotes will eat fox young. They just need to re-introduce timber wolves instead of a sub species from a different place with different prey and different evolutionary pressures.

I think that the reason people in the West did not correctly understand the “end of the cold war” is that they had no idea of all the secret successes of the communists. They thought that so many things which happened in the world in general, and the West in particular, “just happened”.
They had NO CLUE.
Thus, the “giving up” of communism made sense to people who thought it was real.

OK – I’m starting to think I’m on solid ground here.
Legally, an assailant has to be using deadly force to receive it as a response, and ACID in the eyes, face, lungs is deadly (people often INHALE when surprised). Thus, I think one has to treat chemical attacks like gunfire – potentially deadly. The same rules would apply as for a suspect with a gun.
I look at it from an entirely different pov, not a legal one. I look at it from the pov of suffering intended and suffering actually inflicted. And by suffering, I mean both physical and psychological suffering.
It seems (IMO) one of the peculiarities of the criminal justice system is the impossibility of getting the punishment to fit the crime AND the criminal.
It would take a book to explain that impossibility, but:
a person who uses acid necessarily intends to inflict the maximum amount of psychological and physical pain possible for as long as possible, in most cases for a lifetime.
To my mind, the necessary malice intended is unsurpassed by any other humanly possible malice, including intended death.
And the suffering intended to be inflicted, and very often is actually inflicted, is worse than death not preceded by extended torture. The suffering inflicted by murder is wholly to the affected community. The suffering inflicted on a murder victim is assessed purely by those left behind. (And I do NOT belittle that suffering, it is just different). There is no “fit” punishment for murder. The punishment for murder is purely for deterrence, community safety, social stability.
An acid attack, if it fortuitously does not cause death, causes something worse than death, and often IS intended to cause something worse than death. It inflicts life-long torment, and is intended to be continuous torture.
A person who inflicts that suffering should be killed, both for deterrence and for punishment which is hardly commensurate with the suffering they inflicted, but creates some psychological suffering which does some justice.
Rape and child predation also fall into that category IMO.

I’ve talked a lot about how bad and toxic certain places on the Internet are, especially Tor. Content modification, javascript injection, targeted malware, IP and source tracking that Tor was supposed to prevent, lots of criminal actors…
The public internet mostly works based off its reputation. There is a certain expectation that when you are on the public internet using the standard suites of tools (mainstream web browsers, search engines, etc.) that the spaces you are on are safer: Child/family friendly content, no malware, end to end encryption for safe financial transactions, etc etc.
What is reputation? It is the credibility assigned to an entity based on community opinion. What is community opinion? Two parts, what is community, and how is their opinion manipulated, controlled, or regulated?
In the case of search engines, web browsers, social media, it’s all done through information control. They don’t believe in transparency – transparency for thee but not for me – so their virtue signalling on the subject is both hypocritical and obnoxiously self serving. In essence they’re created a curated garden where they control what is allowed in and what is forced out. In every garden there is a gardener, a provactive role if there was one, one man that controls the entire system. In many small gardens this is not a problem, there are many gardeners who manage their own plot as they see fit.
But one massive garden, one huge collective farm if you will, lovingly managed by Uncle Joe err I mean Uncle Eric, is a very deceptive illusion. The illusion of safety when in fact you are not safe – like an abusive relationship where the abuser justifies to the abused spouse that they are really there to help protect them from the big bad world out there. The abuser creates the illusive need for safety and security in the abused, so that the abused forms a co-dependent relationship and keeps coming back. Big Tech is really as much in the protection racket as anything else, selling people in the illusion of a safe surfing internet, when in reality they are as much of the problem as anything else. In fact, their size and tracking power alone makes them orders of magnitude more powerful than any criminal actor’s operation.

I certainly hope fiat money goes away, but note:
Realistically all this would be is paper money freely convertible to some precious metal at a fixed ratio–we wouldn’t all start using actual gold and silver exclusively for money–there’s not nearly enough of them in existence to replace the paper out there at ~$1400 per troy ounce.
(You probably know this, but I’ve read some very, very ignorant articles about how the “true price” of gold is fantastically higher than it is now, premised on gold physically replacing or backing every single dollar bill (and electronic dollar) out there in its present quantity, rather than it being used to *peg* the dollars out there.)
M1 (the actual cash in people’s pockets + checking accounts) is 3,600 billion dollars in the US. The physical amount of gold in the entire world is (very roughly) 160,000 tonnes (metric tons), which is 160,000,000,000 grams, which is roughly 5 billion troy ounces. Now this is the WORLD supply of gold. It’s worth 7,000 billion dollars at $1400/oz, but that’s the entire world, not just the US, so it seems a bit short as far as being able to replace the cash in people’s pockets and checking accounts. Plus, this isn’t all the money out there, either, as there are M2 and M3 to consider.
Another aspect is, would gold and silver be freely interchangeable? In other words, should the silver in ten dollar’s worth of dimes be equivalent to a gold eagle’s worth of gold? I hope not. Trying to make that so has caused astounding amounts of headaches in the past; because the two metals are NOT, in fact, at a fixed value ratio relative to each other, and defining a dollar simultaneously in terms of both is a Bad Idea. It was about 14:1 when the US was founded, had slipped to 16:1 by the civil war, and is now close to 100:1. (This is a very, very long term trend; in ancient Egypt it was closer to 1:3–silver was more valuable than gold.) In 1853 we were forced to reduce the amount of silver in 3, 5, 10, 25 and 50 cent silver pieces (no, that wasn’t a typo; we had 3 and 5 cent silver pieces) to less (rather than more) than their face value in terms of gold to avoid having silver coinage melted. Before that time, you could bring a bunch of raw silver or gold to the mint and they’d make coins for you out of them, as much as you wanted. After that time, you could no longer do so with silver, because legally, the coins being produced would be worth more than the silver, and their quantity had to be strictly limited so as not to debase the currency. Whereas even after that time, the gold was precisely equivalent to the money it was made into.
If we were to truly abandon paper money and insist that all cash be hard money, with the exception of pieces of paper certifying that a specific coin was on deposit (reinventing the silver and gold certificates) and available on demand, we’d probably have to go with a system of silver coins (call them thalers–those were originally silver coins and the “dollar” is historically descended from them) and gold coins (call them ducats–again, historically gold coins) and let the exchange rate between thalers and ducats float.

here’s the question, though. What other assets, other than oil, can be used to back currency? we can’t subsist on barter. There has to be something to back paper other than trust and debt. Doesn’t there?
There does, I think.
The best definition of “money” that I ever read was (paraphrasing), “Anything you are willing to take in exchange for your valuables, in the confidence that it will be accepted by someone else for their valuables in turn.” In other words, it really doesn’t have to have “intrinsic” value. As long as someone else will take it from you, you’re willing to accept it from others. But the lack of intrinsic value means that there’s a chance it will be slowly inflated (a form of theft), or will totally lose its value if people wake up one day and realize they don’t want engravings of dead presidents and founding fathers any more.
Even fiat is backed, albeit thinly, by a government’s willingness to take it as tax payment. No matter what, it’s good for paying the damned IRS and state revenuers.
What I was trying to point out is a distinction between every dollar mapping to a distinct, specific bit of gold…and a dollar being readily convertible into a given amount of gold. Both are backing for the currency; the former would basically turn our paper-and-base-metal money into receipts for physical gold kept somewhere. There’d be enough gold in storage to replace every dollar. Alas there simply isn’t enough gold in existence, certainly not within the US, to go to that sort of system–not at today’s gold price. So we would have to go to a convertability scheme.
As far as what you could back dollars with, any commodity will do, but for reasons of convenience, you want one with a long shelf life, that has little maintenance cost, and is both divisible and can be turned into a standardized form. So cattle would be a bad choice–it fails on every criterion I just mentioned, and precious metals are a good choice. Oil wouldn’t be bad, except that no two oil fields produce the exact same oil, whereas gold and silver are pretty much…gold and silver, once you remove the impurities.
I see, So, any commodity with a shelf life and a value to the general public or government can be used.
When I read through the first response, all I could think of was babysitting in exchange for ballgame tickets. We used to do stuff like that when the neighbors were executives and had access to corporate seats. Saw Pedro Guerrero punch out a pitcher from the eighth row on the first base line one time in those seats.

I have a Ravelry account and I don’t think I’ve used it in a couple years. I’ve been making up my own patterns.
I find it so convenient especially managing my yarn. I can take a look at my stash online and see how much I have of a particular color and if it would be enough for the project I want to work.
But. As convenient as it is, I lived life without it before and I reckon I can again.
so how does that work with the yarn?
let’s say you’re at an alpaca farm and they have gorgeous yarn on sale and you buy 20 skeins (?) do you then have to go on to the website and enter in that much (in ounces or skeins whatever). then you knit me a sweater for Christmas cuz it perfectly matches my eyes–you have to go onto the website again to subtract the amount you used?

And there’s an interface with the pattern, too. If the pattern I choose to make you this sweater is in the data base, I can create a project, called Pat’s Sweater. It will show me how many yards of yard are needed, per the pattern, and if I have enough in my stash of a suitable yarn and it will show me the options I have.
Then, I can enter notes on the project like I hate how the sleeves were worked, next time do this or that instead of what the pattern says. Then I can take a pic when it’s done and post it and rate whether I liked the pattern, whether I liked the yarn. And it subtracts out the yarn used from the stash database.
It is most useful for people who do a lot of knitting and crocheting. I go in spurts where I do a LOT.
If you’re sort of a casual knitter this would all be a lot easier to leave behind.
It was interesting. There’s a group on the site called GOP Knitters. I went there yesterday to check it out and they were sort of huddled together like scared, and unhappy, rabbits. But the group, which is small, had had a number of new people joining the group because they were so po’d about the whole thing and wondering if there were other options out there.
sounds cool, but i am so much more a spreadsheet geek than most I guess..I make craft items to sell at shows and small stores down home and i track everything myself. keep my spreadsheets on my portable hard drive and revise them when necessary…plus I keep notebooks as well…and things have to balance between them…LOL

Just my take, we as conservatives or better those who love our country cannot allow ourselves to be intimidated by these misguided people.
Personally I would weigh how important the site is to me and if it is I satay.
They do not know if you are a Trump supporter or not?
Just think of it this way you are and they have a problem. If we allow ourselves to be pushed out because of words we will loose.
Believe me I have been discriminated against most of my life and know what I speak about. Sometimes you can fight back by not leaving. Stay strong but do not let emotional people drive you away from a utility of a database because of other peoples discrimination against conservatives or Trump supporters.
What they are doing is discrimination but since it is a private run blog we cannot do much about it.

Among the group of 5 were two conservative and 3 progressives. I let them talk never interjected politics but realized how screwed up so many progressive women are. They need prayers.
You Sylvia can begin a knitting group for very own. A group that shares a love for knitting to get together on Skype or Gab has one also. I have not investigated that one.

Big Mama Tea said that Patrick’s blog was what it used to be like OT in the old days. Those of us who have been keeping vigil on his blog mostly shot the sh!t, talked about personal stuff, posted pictures, goofed off, and laughed a lot and prayed a lot.
We’d like to continue that somehow. Is it possible if we can find someone like a Daughn or a Wheatie or a Flep type of a person that you would trust that we could have a Daily Open/Non Politics thread here? Not that there is anything wrong with politics obviously that’s why we’re here, after all.
But two things: we don’t want to annoy our more serious/less playful commenters, and we really feel the need for a prayer thread. There are a lot of us in the Q Tree like Cindy P and David just for instance who need our prayers. We have some wonderful prayer warriors.
Again, it isn’t that we want to remove praying from out Daily Thread here at the QTree but a separate thread, especially now that this place has grown, allows fo a level of personal interaction that has proven to be a blessing to all of us at PHC’s blog.
I don’t know if this would place a big extra burden on you–don’t want that–and we’d have to have someone who meets your standards, of course.

New York City has a distinctive way of dealing with the homeless: pay for them to live pretty much anywhere in the country.
Since 2014, Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration has used a program called Special One-Time Assistance to relocate nearly 10,000 homeless people to over 300 cities. The program – which directly pays landlords a year of rent upfront, free to the beneficiary – is a significant departure from past city homeless relocation efforts because it does not require participants to have strong community ties to the new destination.
Under the program, which comes as homelessness is rising not just in New York but in other major cities, NYC’s homeless have moved as far away as Orlando, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Birmingham, Ala.
Despite the rental subsidy, the program saves the city a lot of money on health, safety, education and other costs related to homelessness while reducing pressure on its shelter system. But mayors on the receiving end say New York is taking advantage of them. “We have our own challenges here. We don’t need to have New York City exporting people into our communities,” said Mayor Mike Spano of Yonkers, where 101 households have relocated under the program. “That’s certainly not the right thing to do.”
Still, the program has not received much attention or pushback in part because New York has not coordinated with – or even informed – other communities about it. Spano, a Democrat, said he learned of the program only recently.
Mayor Elinor Carbone of Torrington, Conn., a Republican, found out about the program from a reporter for RealClearInvestigations. “You’re kidding me,” she said when informed that New York’s homeless have used it to relocate to her town. “That’s incredible. Wow.”

Gary Swank was visiting the Central American country with his family. He had been on a fishing boat with local guide Mario Graniel when they were both shot dead, Belize Police Commissioner Chester Williams said in a press conference Monday recorded by the San Pedro Sun newspaper.
In the recording, Williams said the tour guide had a disagreement with a local gang kingpin, and agrees that Swank was a “victim of circumstance.”
Graniel had earlier reported to police that someone fired shots at his home on Friday, but he never filed a formal complaint, Williams said.
“We maintain police presence in the area to protect him and the community from further shootings but we can’t follow the man everywhere he goes,” he said. “He decided to go out with a tourist.”
“We did what we could have done in terms of detaining those who we believe were responsible and maintaining presence in the area where he lived.”
CNN has reached out to Belize authorities, but has not heard back.
Swank was ‘a well-respected and well-loved colleague’
Swank was the medical director of Carilion Clinic cardiac catheterization lab and an associate professor of internal medicine at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, according to a statement from the clinic. The school is in Roanoke, Virginia, about 170 miles west of Richmond.
“Dr. Swank was a well-respected and well-loved colleague who, each and every day, embodied the values that we hold dear,” the statement reads. “His absence leaves a void in our team and in our community.”
Swank’s patients were devastated to hear of his death.
“He saved my life, and every time I went to his office he was a very knowledgeable, patient and caring person,” Teresa Hodges, who was Swank’s patient for 13 years, told CNN affiliate WSLS-TV. “He’s part of my life.”
Rhonda Saunders, a 10-year patient of Swank’s, told CNN affiliate WFXR-TV he made a huge difference in her life. He was very talented, thorough and approachable, she told WFXR.
“I was stunned, I was shocked, I had tears because I was so excited about seeing him at my next visit,” Saunders said.
US Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia offered his thoughts and prayers to the Swank family in a statement to CNN saying his office is coordinating with the State Department “to ensure they are in touch with their Belizean counterparts regarding Dr. Swank’s death and are closely monitoring the local investigation.”
US Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia said he was “horrified to hear about the tragic death.”
“Our office has been in touch with the State Department,” Kaine said.
US Rep. Ben Cline of Virginia also released a statement to CNN saying: “I ask all Virginians to remember Dr. Swank’s wife and children as they deal with this unthinkable tragedy.”

I am so grateful for the warm welcome, the humor, the honesty, and the lively but respectful debate on this site. I really love it – and found it at a dark time in my own life.
I just found out late Friday that my own head and neck cancer is spreading, that the chemo and radiation didn’t do diddly and I am now at a higher stage 4 level. Doctors are going to start immunotherapy as soon as possible. There’s still hope – I’m not dead yet – but these are hard words to write. Those of you who are Prayer Warriors here, please keep me in your prayers!

Have you looked into the experimental stuff that President Trump has OK for use on extreme cases yet?
Or even alternative medicine. That is pretty much how I deal with the neuro Lyme.
My doctors want to study the gene structure of the actual tumor itself to see if anything in its particular cancer structure can be attacked at the molecular level. If needed, he will examine my own genes. I could qualify for some clinical trials but my oncologist really wants to start hitting the cancer with immunotherapy first since this is such an agressive cancer.
And blueridge, I have a friend trained in Chinese medicine and she has offered her services too. I have fortunate to live in an area with lots of resources – so there’s still hope!

Does Cummings have any legal grounds? On the surface, yes, because overseeing administration of the Hatch Act is plainly permissible legislative oversight. But digging deeper, the answer is plainly NO, and it appears the OSC Korner ‘finding’ is just more wrong McCain neverTrumpism.
The Hatch Act defines to whom it applies in 5USC§7322. Slightly paraphrasing, 5USC§7322 (1) says it applies to any federal employee except the President and Vice President
(A) in an EXECUTIVE AGENCY.
Executive agency is defined elsewhereby 5USC§105 as
1. An executive department established by Congress (comment: including but not limited to cabinet level departments)
2. Government Corporations (best known is the US Postal Service)
3. Independent government establishments (like the Fed).
Here is the definitional catch showing Korner’s OSC bias: the Office of the White House itself is NONE of these three. In fact, the Congressional Research Service (CRS) put out a 17 page Hatch Act report (CRS R44469) in 2016 noting that White House staff were not covered by the Hatch Act even though Cabinet level officers were—how else could the WH Press Secretary do her job?

And I gotta say this is oooold news.
I reported on this last year (along with others) but was the FIRST and ONLY to confront Omar on the issue.
Last summer, I asked Omar as she stood next to her partner in crime, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, “Why did you marry your own brother.”
I also passed on a friendly reminder that she cannot use campaign funds to pay for her divorce.

This woman was STILL legally married to her brother while running for office – and used campaign funds to pay for her divorce!!
I’m sitting here laughing because I can’t make this stuff up.
So how did this story FINALLY make the mainstream news?
Because as Ilhan Omar continued to show her true, Jew-hating colors, reporters began to dig and they eventually came across my articles, videos and pile of documents I’ve uncovered.
They repackaged the work, slapped their name on it and called themselves “investigative journalists” when the only time they step away from their desks is during happy hour.
But you know what? That’s fine.
The word is out.
Ilhan Omar is not only a sitting member of Congress who sympathizes with and supports terrorist organizations . . . she is a proven law-breaker who not only committed immigration fraud by marrying her brother, she violated campaign finance laws in her attempt to cover it up!
In 1986, the Immigration Marriage Fraud Amendments Act passed and Ilhan Omar is dead guilty. The penalty for violating this law is five years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine for any “individual who knowingly enters into a marriage for the purpose of evading any provision of immigration laws.”
It’s undeniable, Omar should be behind bars for her crimes.
