Yes – the KID-DOXXING CREEP from CNN manages to knock Monica out of contention, as she drops out of consideration IMMEDIATELY, so as not to further harm the already battered “baby” Trump administration.
This was a real shame to me, because – ironically – I have always been very talented at AVOIDING plagiarism charges, due to an extraordinary ability to put things into my own words, and to reassemble thoughts into what appear to most of my fellow humans to be “original thinking”. The problem?
IT’S ALL A HUGE LIE.
Truly original thinking is actually quite rare. Almost all human thought is unoriginal, if not plagiarized. It is repeated, it is tweaked and fluffed, it is borrowed, it is melted and recast, but it is NOT – by any means – “original”, in any way, shape or form.
In my opinion, the writing that our society regards as “unplagiarized” and the writing that it regards as “plagiarized” are disturbingly similar, except for a kind of “mixmaster effect” which people use to move ideas around, using simple algorithms. The idea that skill in using these algorithms is “original thinking” is absolute BULLSHIT, pardon my use of cliche plagiarism.
The fact that Monica was cheated out of Press Secretary was bad enough if her writing had simply been careless enough to not pay homage to the idiot taboos of our primitive, linear, vocal-based communications. But then it got worse.
It was shown that KFILE – the execrable child-doxxer – had CHEATED in taking out Monica.

So when RUMORS of an upcoming Monica appointment in the Trump administration hit just this year, the SOVIET FAKE NEWS was still stuck on “plagiarism”, but nobody cared. We knew by then that the WHOLE DAMN THING was “KFILE” at best. A sad testament to what the left had done to America, to keep us blind for DECADES.
But none of it mattered.
After “Muh Russia”, “Muh Plagiarism” was not even worth an EYE-ROLL.

Little known factoids:
Alan Colmes was well-liked by ALL he came in contact with. He was simply a nice warm liberal who honed his lib schtick with Pat Buchanan on CNN (back when it was respectable).
Monica’s sister is her identical twin. So when Monica appeared with Alan on FoxNews, they seated them side by side so that Alan wouldn’t have to look at his “wife” while debating. Monica would sometimes turn to look at Alan but he never turned to look at her. I figure she sounded just like his wife so hearing Monica was probably all he could take without stumbling.

On a completely different subject, I decided to address my overflowing stack of proposed kernel updates a bit earlier this evening. Linux, along with a bunch of other UNIX derivates, treats the kernel as just another program — in fact, compiling your own kernel has historically been a UNIX rite of passage. I had been running one from a while ago — 4.15 (the kernel that was packaged with Ubuntu 18.04). The current version is 5.2.2 — the current version used in Debian (release) is 4.19.37; the current version used in Ubuntu (which is otherwise based on Debian) is 5.0.0; the current version in Ubuntu’s long-term support (LTS) version is 4.15.
The kernel handler that is built into the Mint Update tool is a thing of beauty. It allows you to choose between all the kernels that have been tested and don’t break the Mint distro. It is just wonderful.
My situation is further complicated in that I have disk partitioning that looks like encrypted partitions — the boot partition (with grub and kernels) is very small and is mounted into the normal filesystem later in the boot process. I only have room for two kernels.
To update a kernel, I have to delete the old one before I install a new one. And I have to avoid upgrading to metapackages like the plague because they’ll fill my disk and crash the upgrade.
Anyway, uname -a says I’m now running 5.0.0 . Makes me feel like disco dancing.

But, I confess, simple shoutouts may easily sound like gibberish to those not involved in that world.

Nothing like (remotely) recovering a down system, by hand, with a high manager from the customer ranting that they’re losing 10 million dollars per second(!) while they’re down. And chewing on your teeth not being able to say if they hadn’t cut corners, cheaped out on hardware maintenance, not made timely (or proper) backups (all of which would have cost less than a few seconds’ worth of downtime), they wouldn’t have been in that mess…
Patching together system tables in order to get it into a stable-enough state to back it up, while the CE is enroute with spares and a few redundant parts…
Or getting a call from a terrified user, just about to add a new device to his system, which he hadn’t rebooted in almost 10 (yes TEN) years. Walking him through cutting a “coldload” tape, printing out the configuration twice (and faxing it to me: this was in the days before Al Gore invented the internet), and then rebooting the system successfully. Another case of “they should have rebooted more often”, but the box (MPE) never crashed, so they never needed to reboot…. Ahh, those were the days…

The main reason is that if the root file system fills up, the system won’t boot, and you have to recover from media or an alternate boot method.
However what I’ve found in practice is that /boot is often too small and fills up due to kernel updates, which puts us back as square one, having to clean out /boot as well. Once in a while that’s fine, but when you start having several dozen machines to clean out at once it gets to be a monotonous chore.
To me partitioning /boot is an old solution to the problem, a holdover from when PC’s couldn’t boot a kernel beyond where the BIOS address space could reach. The smarter thing to do is to configure the partitions so that the root file system isn’t likely to fill up. Putting /var and /home on a separate partition if not a separate volume, for instance. Special applications in /opt can be the same.
The same is true of other operating systems. Nothing like good housekeeping, good documentation, good procedures, and good maintenance…

Yup, you know exactly what I’m talking about — my /boot partition can hold only two kernels. When I update, I have to delete all of the ones older than the one I’m using, install the new one, sacrifice a couple of Deep Ones to Dagon, and reboot. If it doesn’t work, I have *one* possible reversion. I can understand the reasoning behind it and having a potentially unusable system….but, in this day and age, I would think that overflowing a 512G disk means you buy a 1T disk, mount both on a completely different system, then move the partitions over…..
We’ve become so spoiled. I mean, I think nothing of hanging a 2T disk off of a $35 Raspberry Pi on a Gigabit network.

The last degree I picked up was done in ’94. I gave my copy of “how to footnote” to my stepson for high school, BUT rules changed as the internet came in. He graduated high school in 2002 and had one paper where he was severely docked — because he used my book for a reference on how to footnote. Since it was about the same time, I’m wondering if something similar happened to Monica.
Even CNN admitted it was mostly a footnoting issue: “Crowley cited these and other sources in footnotes at various points in her dissertation, but often failed to include citations or to properly cite sources in sections where she copied their wording verbatim or closely paraphrased it.”…….. and there it is, “properly citing a footnote” cost Monica her book and a wonderful career…… as opposed to Joe Biden’s plagiarism……. which was wide and broad.

Yes, the MLA handbook and approved form for history, science and literary papers change year by year. Thankfully, now there is software to make it easy.
I remember typing papers in high school and college on a typewriter – and then no white out was allowed on formal papers! Most people at the Doctorate level used professional typists. The computer age is so much easier for many reasons – word count, word search, finding a paragraph, moving text, etc.!

I typed my own Master thesis on a typewriter…looks so amateurish now! One summer in college I worked for an attorney (no white out allowed), so at least had that training and experience to do it.
Often wives of graduate students earned much-needed money by typing papers. A lot of them became so proficient they made suggestions, corrections, etc.

I used to be very particular about citations – and I really pissed off more than one person with that.
But now we live in the era of lazy journalism where most writers wouldn’t know a citation if it bit them in the face. The crap BuzzFeed churns out…
Footnotes are convenient, but their utility diminishes when they are over-used. If a footnote contains multiple paragraphs of information, it either needs to be inserted inline into the text (not always possible), simplified, or relegated to a table or appendix of citations. I’ve seen plenty of articles where the footnotes devoured the entire page but for about four or five lines of main body text. Most of the time I cringe when I see this. There are a few instances where I’ve seen this and approved, for example when the main text is itself is originally in another language and the article’s author is taking the time to explain the nuances of his translation. Most of the time though excessive footnotes isn’t about citations as much as it is fluff designed to impress with gargantuan footnotes.
I’ve also seen competing research groups argue that the other team didn’t include enough “footnotes”. Also cringeworthy – what matters is “citations”. Nevermind, the other team went back to their text and added a whole slew of footnotes, mostly defending minor sticking points, but not actually increasing their citations. So it went back to the complaining team – and they went back to their MO, finding other things to complain about… because it was never their fault or their wrong, you see. No, no … nothing but honest truth seeking going on there… /s
I agree with you about both – the silliness of folks in academia and the preference for an Appendix for long notes and explanations. Sometimes an inset quote works. Readability and clarity should be the main thing – plus integrity in citing sources.

We bought an earlier version of that machine called the Roll-Aid, that was bigger and much more difficult to take on and off of a manual wheelchair. Our family member had coordination deficits due to the neurodegenerative disease and could not get the thing on and off by herself. It blocked her from getting out of the chair and transferring to the toilet.
Wasted money. We still laugh about it. Many people with disabilities accumulate a garage full of gadgets and gismos that don’t work for them.

I see no need to change the date, at all. People can and do celebrate when it’s convenient for them. It’s not exactly a regulated industry. How do people abuse many of the social programs that exist now which are regulated. If your putting the program together you have that much more of a chance of committing fraud and getting away with it. The people putting up the money are not the ones running the program. They will likely depend on honest brokers to do it. These honest brokers are the same ones that thrive off being attached to corrupt democrat administrators and politicians who continuously fleece the citizens and government now.

Political policies and legislation are not ultimately determined in conference rooms and governmental chambers, but in prayer closets. The voices that shape the direction of a nation are not necessarily those that loudly ring out in legislative halls, but those that approach the throne room of the heavenly Father with bold faith (Heb. 4:16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.) As the church believes and prays, the Lord will respond.
Knowing that God can change a country, you may be wondering why He has waited so long. But He is likely already working in ways we don’t recognize or understand. Every authority on earth can be touched by the power of prayer if we are willing to ask and believe God.

When I was transferred from the USA to Germany in the begining of the 1980s, my company had to prove that I possessed a competence in my field that no-one in Germany had. I also had to go through a battery of medical and other tests, and a mountain of paperwork before the process could proceed.
And folks complain about the process to get into the USA. You ain’t seen nuthin’ like the process for Germany used to be (before Merde-Kun). And no forms in other languages. Nope. They were ALL in German. LEGAL German, which in impenetrable even for most REAL Germans. I’ve seen this from both directions; moving to Germany, and (extended) family members emigrating to America…

I’m no lawyer, but I would think a change to the law concerning grand jury information could not be made to have retroactive effect. This would be a massive expansion of the powers of the SC, fundamentally altering the considerations that went into enacting the SC laws in the first place.
PDJT would have a several solid constitutional arguments against such a change, including:
— an argument that his rights as a citizen are violated where a government prosecutor is allowed to present a case against him (or portions of a case against him) other than in a court and without following the rules generally applicable to the conduct of criminal prosecutions;
— an argument that the effect of this change would be to outsource to the SC the fact gathering component of an impeachment proceeding, which under the constitution can only be conducted by the House;
— a separation of powers argument; and
— an argument that such a change would be a bill of attainder (because it is obvious that such a change applies only to one citizen — PDJT).
Another minor detail, such a change in the law would suddenly leave Dems in the crosshairs…
If the Grand Jury information were so critical, read that as damning, then would not the Mueller Report findings be other than what they are? This is no different then inditing Russians who are never going to show up for a trial.

LOL…and I have some anecdotes that seem to indicate Colorado wine is just as good as PRK (People’s Respublik of Kalifornia) wine.
I have friends in Napa, and I drove there once. I stopped in Grand Junction and hit a liquor store, and grabbed three bottles of local wine at random. (Not being a drinker, I knew (and know) nothing about wine beyond “Riesling is sweet.”)
My friends served one bottle to some friends of theirs who own a vineyard. They were STUNNED when they got to see the label.
I prefer American wine over French wine in general. Has nothing to do with patriotism—I truly like the taste of American red wine—dry, robust, dark ruby red.
Ironically, it was Kalifornistan (back in the good old days) that saved the French wine industry. (Most of California’s vines originated from cuttings from France). France had a HORRIBLE (Tres Horrible) outbreak of Phylloxera that all but destroyed their vineyards. California jumped in to help (as I said, it was the good old days), and provided them with an enormous amount of cuttings and root stock, etc. (I’m no oenologist, so I’m just saying we sent them the basic building blocks they needed).
The French are very kind and warm people, despite the Pariaisans (who can also be quite nice and kind- I’ve experienced this personally a number of times).

I know that many Europeans say that the American wines are mixed too much with other aromas and that they prefer more subtle flavors. But that BURST of flavor is EXACTLY what I love in a Californian Cabernet Sauvignon or Zinfandel. I do not go too expensive—on occasion I might spend between 10 to 30 dollars on a bottle—but most of the time below 10.
Not sure I agree on the wine thing, but since sulfites are added to our wines, who can tell.
I have to say that French wines are my favorite, with Italian wines second. If I can get organic wine from here that is fine, as they do not add any sulfites.
I did an opera program in Tuscany some years back and got a taste for Italian whites. The people we American girls rented from had a stash from a local vineyard. The husband worked for them at harvest, and they paid their workers partially with product. Good stuff – and it was at the inexpensive end in Tuscany.

Yes. They are. In my neck of the woods, the wines are year specific – droughts give us good ones – and the harvests are not big enough for commercialization much outside the region. In fact, the only person I’ve met who knew the Missouri River Valley and to an extent south of us along the Mississippi (Ste. Genevieve) had a wine country was a guy who had a wine shop and tasting operation in Germany, and I can’t remember the name of the town. This was 20 years ago. The whole industry was really resurrected in the 70s. Now, DAY TRIP! Herman and Mount Pleasant await.
When I lived in upstate NY, we used to do wine tours. They do whites fine. The reds are much more difficult to pull off.
Out here in Texas I have some pinot noir vines growing and some muscadines, plus a couple table grapevines. Next year should see a harvest. Would live to make my own wine. ☺
My great grandfather used to make his own. I remember the arbor from when I was REALLY little. I mean before I was five. He was gone by then.
In MO, the native grapes are reds. It’s called Cynthiana in Mount Pleasant, and Norton in Herman. Cynthiana and Norton were married, as I understand it. Anyway, it’s the same grape.
I think native grapes are fabulous. They are particularly suited to the soil and climate. I’m trying to find a native Texan vine to plant.
Some of the ones we get here in GERMANY are sub-par. “Trollinger mit Lemberger” for example. To quote “Faceman” from the A-Team, “I wouldn’T wash my car with that stuff”…
But the folks here love it…. can’t figure out why, but I’m a California boy, so maybe that’s it. Italian and French wines are great. And of course the Kalifornistan and often other American wines (when I can find them).
On the other hand, it’s kinda neat when every area have their own wines, their own beers, their own breads, their own sausages (I confess, I’m a fan of Jimmy Dean, sosume), and other local stuff. More variety from which to choose.
And the warmunists might note that in the Medieval Warm period, Greenland was actually warm, mostly ice-free and GREEN (hence the name), and they grew, fermented, and bottled wine in England, even in the NORTH (who knows, maybe over in the nordic lands they had “Rudolph’s Red” 🙂 ).
I think after a month or two of “freedom fries”, Macaroon will come around. Funny thing is, no one over here calls them “French Fries”. We either call them “Pommes Frites” (fired potatoes) or just “Pommes”.
Same thing with Danishes. (Ahh, how I miss Birkholm’s in Solvang). They are simply referred to as pastry, or whatever variant they are. Speaking of which, they have what is backically an iced English tea cake called an “Amerkcaner”. Lemon-ish cookie dough (like from the 1800s), with icing. Half black, half white…
Someone asked me, “hey, do you want an Amerikaner?” I had no clue what they meant, and they were shocked that I didn’t know…

Many years ago, my wife an I were in a German bakery in the Stanford shopping center. My wife asked for a few “Schweineöhrchen” (basically piglets’ ears, from their shape), and after we were done with our order, we noticed that the woman behind us was crying…
My wife asked her why, and she replied, in broken German, that she wasn’t allowed to speak German in her house (by her husband) and that she hadn’t heard that term (or probably German) in years. They talked for a while, and my wife cheered her up… maybe it was a chance for us to help her. Hope she’s OK…

What this tells me is that bias likely CAN be removed *on average* by what Trump is doing. AMAZING! I will also bet that the SPREAD OF VALUES in all groups can be lowered by the same actions, which is self-consistent.
Trump’s strategy is to condemn racial bias PER SE by all groups. IMO, it has to work, based on what Obama and the socialists did here.

Linda – I have used one principle which has consistently ruled out “white hat Mueller”, and has actually helped me predict unknowns correctly.
MINIMIZE the number of “Trump lies, pretenses, tricks”. Make them as close to zero as possible. Make every Trump tweet “age well”, as in he was not “pretending” or feigning for some unknown purpose.
Apply the same principle to everybody else who has said the EXACT SAME THING about the Trump-Mueller-Rosenstein meeting. Make everybody be “telling the truth”.
If that’s the case, then it creates a story that is fully consistent with Q, Trump, Lawfare, etc. Rosey acted “honorably” according to what he knew and what he believed was ethical – that he had to create a special counsel as requested, that he could not interfere too much with Mueller’s requests, that he had to let the system “play out”, but also that he would accept new direction – first from Whitaker, then from Barr. Note that this is THE SAME as giving the plotters enough rope to hang themselves. THAT was the real sting, IMO.
ROSEY was the front end of the sting, and he had to be MORE BY THE BOOK THAN THEM.
This is why they all gave Rosey props at the end. Rosey allowed a lot of enemy action to happen, because he had to do it to allow the plotters to hang themselves. It was clearly not easy. Rosey took a lot of heat – including from me.
This puts Mueller on the OTHER SIDE OF THE STING. But Mueller understood the game, too. He put in a good faith effort to take down Trump, allowing Weissmann to drive. He pushed all kinds of things, including RAIDING TRUMP’S ATTORNEY, trying to go after finances, etc. He IGNORED all kinds of things that looked bad for the Dems. He COVERED UP things, like deleting text messages. He HELPED THE RUSSIANS in several places (YES!) while going after them in cunningly stupid and wrong ways that did nothing to Russia, but looked bad for Trump. He FED the fake news cycle, exactly as desired.
The problem is that Trump DID NOT FALL for any of the actual legal tricks. So Mueller just went for the option of 4-8 years of harassment and suspicion. But the BARR SWITCH nuked that, and here we are.
So we did sting them, but not with Mueller. Mueller was just their FIRST GOOSE TO KNOW HE WAS COOKED. So he walked things along – dragged them out – maxed out what he could get. Until TRUMP chose to end the farce.
Real chess. Not magic. Not Hollywood. A REAL political duel.
That’s my opinion.

The fact that the FBI did not release the “Brady” (potentially exonerating) information to her attorneys is not a surprise, IMO. To do so would have served to identify an informant – a big no-no, and even worse in a spying situation. It would be obvious that Byrne was the source, and the feds would be revealing it to a believed spy and definite asset of the Russian government. AND if the opinion of the FBI was that Byrne was fundamentally wrong in his assessment of her – meaning she WAS a spy of SOME sort – and that the exculpatory information would do no good, then there is no real point in releasing it. A FISA court could and should, IMO, have rendered an opinion on that as well.
I’m thinking the FBI acted properly.
I think Mueller didn’t want this one because (1) it was dropped elsewhere to begin with, meaning a mess to get it, and (2) it was a WILD CARD – not part of the PLOT – so as a lawyer, he would want that UNKNOWN about as much as he would want to ask questions to which he did not already know the answers – meaning not at all. The Mueller SC plot was Comey and McCabe’s set-up baby, with Brennan’s assistance. Butina was REAL Russian spying, conducted without Democrat awareness. Butina was not a “shared asset” like Halper and Mifsud. Not a China boy like Downer. Not their business. In other words, Mueller and the prior McCabe inquiries were never about Russian spying – they were about getting Trump.
The video of her asking Trump questions is very telling. Sure looks like intelligence work, disguised as “journalism / activism”.

There are at least two problems with plagiarism, beyond the obvious.
First, it’s hard. Harder than writing your own stuff, that’s for sure. And I suspect that a lot of the time you can’t just copy & paste, you have to manually TRANSCRIBE someone else’s words, typing them yourself as you read. I have to do that sometimes when I want to respond to something and post it here, and it’s a drag to type out even a paragraph or two.
Second, it takes all the FUN and creativity out of writing.
And if I can’t have fun doing it, then I wouldn’t do it in the first place… writing is miserable unless you have the freedom to express yourself in your own words. 😁
Yes, I think that a certain subset of people never get to that point. They just view writing as drudgery and don’t seek the joy, which makes the hard parts easy, and makes the FREEDOM of one’s own words and ideas precious and worth seeking.
Plagiarism isn’t really evil, IMO, it’s simply lazy – and sufficiently so as to not discover how HARD and unnecessary it is.
I often see this in tech. People will adopt a crude and difficult methodology, then refuse to try something which is 10% harder for a day, and HALF AS HARD forever after.
Obviously Monica Crowley could not possibly fit into that bunch. So KFILE engineered it. I have to say, he clearly finds some joy in INJUSTICE.
