I had to do a hurry-up for my taxes today, because my stuff’s all scrambled from moving drama. They’re in the can — all I have to do tomorrow is print ’em, get ’em addressed, and send ’em from the post office (since they’re larger than standard letters).
Part of my personal excitement was having the prep program barf on me about “lacking medical insurance information” at 3:00 pm. On Columbus Day. As part of “final checking”. The day before things needed to be filed.
Every single word of the 2,000+ pages of Obamacare was evil, including every “the”, “and”, and “a”.
Obamacare is EVIL. Destroyed healthcare in this country. For the price of “having” health insurance, almost nobody but the poor actually have AFFORDABLE insurance. A dear person I work with in a community homeless clinic (I volunteer as a nurse) needed a CT Scan – like 3 wks ago when the head trauma happened, but wouldn’t go get it because they couldn’t afford the scan – because their DEDUCTIBLE is unaffordable.
She’s been symptomatic, so convinced her to get it done. Today is the day, and yes, I’m making sure she isn’t worried about the cost. These are moments that God gives us to make a difference in this world.

I pay cash rather than go through insurance. The cost is much cheaper for run of the mill stuff.
Before insurance was mandated, and when it was just for the big stuff, everything was so much more affordable.
True, and one can negotiate the cost w/ a cash payment. Didn’t they just past a regulation which was going to force hospitals, clinics to divulge prices – therefore, folks could compare. There is also the move for physicians who have a conscience to get out of being owned by the Big Business model and go back to “private practice.” Big business has bought all the hospitals and physician practices.
Direct Primary Care, is one such move. It is not the same as a concierge practice.

Things are so different than when I was little. So many moms here were nurses, and just about all of them went to nursing school at one of the hospitals, and every hospital had a nursing school. After the 90s, when the first round of socialized medicine was in the air, the hospitals got together and formed two groups. For brevity, one group aligned with Wash U’s med school. The other (all the Catholic hospitals) aligned with Saint Louis University’s medical school.
And it is a business, that’s for sure.
For the sorts of things I need, Urgent Care is just fine. Cash for service.

Trump has unraveled a LOT of it. But we’re still paying the price and will have aftershocks for at least the next five to ten years.
At the 50,000 foot level, the solution to the whole ball of wax:
* DRAMATICALLY drive down the costs of health care
* Reducing expenses makes health care profitable again – RAPID GROWTH
* Dramatically lower administrative overhead
* Growth potential means we’ll reverse the trends and get MORE Doctors, PAs, Nurses. Break down all artificial barriers of entry into the medical professions.
* Drug Prices are already lower – we will be able to do A LOT more…
* Break down insurance barriers and nonsense regulations that limit private insurance. Allow private medical insurance to flourish
* De-couple the system from JOB+INSURANCE norms that are holdovers from WWII. Push Medical insurance back into traditional place where individuals/families purchase it, like auto insurance
* DRIVE THE SYSTEM PRICES DOWN and the INSURANCE PRICES down
* Make private medical insurance a REAL option for the working poor
* Poorer people will be able to afford real insurance, and have real options, rather than going to the abusive fraud ridden locations that take medicare, which treat patients at bags of money to exploit not as persons, with all the contempt that comes from that – now they can go to clinics that listen to them and their needs
* Make Medicare and Medicaid drop in relevance
* Less people on Medicare and Medicaid starts to result in less overbilling and fraud on the system
* Charitable medical practice becomes a real possibility again as burdensome regulations are removed
* Medicare will be a shadow of its current self and essentially become a relic
A big part of the problem is that medical insurance is essentially treated by people as a pre-paid medical plan, and that has over-complicated the system. Imagine if you had a pre-paid auto plan and every time you took your car to the mechanic you had to check your deductive and figure out the co-pay only to find that your transmission service isn’t covered under your auto-insurance plan. If you haven’t figured it out, there is something sick and wrong with the way we do medical insurance, precisely b/c of this pre-paid service mindset.

Except it will completely destroy doctor/patient privilege and force you to start lying to your doctor about anything you don’t want the world to know. It will destroy privacy — you think the breach at OPM exposing 21.5M people who had applied for security clearances was a fluke? Anything you put into an electronic records management system……and ESPECIALLY a Federal Government records management system, might as well be printed on a billboard to be erected in front of your house.
In addition, it asks your primary care physician to ask you politically motivated questions like, “do you own a gun?” And, to top things off, physicians are complaining that they spend so much of their time on data coding that they can’t adequately perform patient care.
Electronic medical records are EVIL.

Your comment about EMR caught my attention – my granddaughter took part in that based on her counselor’s recommendation. I was very skeptical at the time since I had never heard of it before that.
It was my understanding that POTUS eliminated the insurance requirement? I got a statement from the VA as a “just in case” since it is no longer required and I have not filed it with my taxes at all. As for the questions asked by the docs, my VA docs have not once asked me about any weapons. If they did, I would tell them “NOYB!”
Right. The mandate was repealed. Treasonous McCain kept the full law from being repealed. POTUS working around it with new opportunities allowed to aid people get care outside of the horror of ACA regs still on the books. No one has asked me about weapons either.
I had a friend who visited her endocrinologist, and the docs walk in the room with their laptops… she outright asked him if he was going to listen to her, or type on the computer! He stopped typing.
Every doctor needs to be asked if they have a phone on their person and is Siri listening to your private medical consultation.

The electronic system comes in handy for SOME things, like opioid users looking for a new prescription in the ER. The Docs can see where the requests were made and when.
OTOH, the old records…my sister had outpatient surgery, and the nurse started going over her medical history. The first thing out of her mouth was something that should have been in my chart. Our pediatrician’s office goofed. I should probably check and make sure that got fixed, and that the final diagnosis is in there because it still is an issue.
And medical people don’t believe me when I say, no really, my right femur is 12mm shorter than the left. It was measured.
Lots of errors are occurring with EMR, and they’re almost uncorrectable. Every time I go to the doc in one of the big business owned systems, I try to correct the same med error – and they never get it corrected. I walk out with the visit summary, and the error remains.
The other problem is the fact that the docs are sending scripts directly to the pharmacy. We’ve had several instances where when I’ve gone to pick up a med for our family, it wasn’t what should have been ordered. Then phone calls are required by me to the MD to get the script fixed! Pharmacy can only do what the script says, and they don’t make those correction calls based on what the patient says. Just happened recently when the doc forgot that a cream was given as two separate meds, not combined. Took a week, and at least 6 back and forth phone calls) to get the right script.
Why? Well, they no longer have real nurses calling in changes to scripts, and after I had sent the email request to the MD via THAT portal, and he had instructed the medical ‘assistant’ (they’re cheaper than employing nurses) to call the pharmacy with the correction. All she did was ask the pharmacist if they could separate the two. He said “yes” but because she isn’t trained in understanding how this works, she did not actually send NEW scripts – which are required!
See how the automation and depersonalization of healthcare has affected our care?
It’s ripe for abuse. Imagine a rogue health care worker digging out Trump’s medical records and leaking them. Just one example.
All those idiotic questions? They can be indexed and used for Red Flag laws. They want to connect your behavior with your mental health. Will come in handy for them later if they get to the next phase… declaring all political opposition mentally ill.

It’s a good idea to think of a good response to this question before you go to the doctor.
You shouldn’t be placed in a position where you think you have to lie, for one thing.
But there’s no reason you can’t have fun with it.
Doc: Do you own a gun?
You: Does it show?
Doc: What?
You: Does it look like I own a gun?
Doc: I just have to ask the question for the form.
You: Oh. What kind of gun are they looking for?
Doc: No, it doesn’t say any particular kind, it just asks whether you own a gun or not.
You: Does a caulk gun count?
Doc: I don’t think so, no.
You: Does the form say whether you own a gun?
Doc: This is for statistics purposes. It’s a government form.
You: Why does the government want you to ask if I own a gun? That seems like a strange thing for the government to want you to know, doesn’t it?
Doc: It’s not for me to know, it’s for the government to know.
You: So whatever I tell you, you’re not going to know?
Doc: Well obviously I’m going to know, I have to check one of the boxes on the form depending on your answer.
You: Have you ever used a staple gun? Do you have a box to check for that?
Doc: Um.. I have other patients who are waiting, if you could just answer the question, then I could…
You: What was the question again?
Doc: Do you own a gun?
You: Does a staple gun count?
Doc: There’s nothing to check besides “Yes” or “No”.
You: Maybe you could just write in ‘staples’ then?
Doc: I really just need an answer, a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ will do…
You: Is the answer to the question relevant to the quality of medical treatment I receive here?
Doc: No, of course not.
You: Then why are you asking?
Doc: I just need an answer for the form.

A much shorter answer might be something along the lines of “Why would anyone want the government to know whether I had a gun or not? It’s none of their business, either way, is it?”
Or…
“There is no way to answer that question without violating my privacy either way, is there? So I’m going to pass, and please make a note to not ask me again. Thanks for understanding.”
Or… if you’ve just had a complete physical, and you want to mess with your doctor, say “I never leave home without it. I’m wearing it right now, and you just checked my whole body, and didn’t find it. It’s pretty well hidden.”
Then after the Doc gives you that look, like they’re not sure what how to take what you just said, laugh and say “I would never answer a question like that Doc… half the fun is in keeping you guessing.”
Lots of ways to handle this question, but bottom line is, they shouldn’t even ask. A lot of people would be uncomfortable answering that question, and that’s not what a doctor / patient relationship is supposed to be about.
It’s amazing how one little missed ‘/’ can screw up an entire post.

I’m not sure how much I believe that, but connecting bases…that’s something else. Especially the ones that were in port cities. And all those underground explosions vented that we could see in the storm water runoff tunnels. In California, those would be mostly dry for a good portion of the year.
What is interesting, though, as I’m nosing around, is that while there are detailed lists of what bases, Naval yards, etc., have closed and how they are being used now online, actual maps of where these places are and their proximity to big ports and rail yards are hard to come by. That would be interesting information.

this morning’s local news had a piece about the limo crash in Upstate New York last year–20 people died. Well, the limo owner is facing charges and now there’s some news about the limo itself. There’s a controversy going on between the owner and Mavis Discount Tires over a brake cylinder that was supposedly bought and was supposed to be installed –but never was–and there’s an argument over who’s really at fault. (the limo was a conversion and the brakes were not adequate for the size) Both sides deny responsibility.

we had a similar beyond the grave thing happen in our family–my Grandmother’s Tickle Me Elmo was lovingly placed in her casket before the funeral services…but we sorta forgot to remove the batteries…well the casket hit a bump in the carpet during the procession–laughter erupted from the casket–it took a moment or two, but then everyone was smiling and laughing…feeling GiGi was there with us.

Has a some what some what similar story I heard from my child hood next door neighbor, claimed to be descendant from the Mayflower as well as claiming to be a white witch, but I digress. Story is this:
-There as an old Italian guy on his death bed and one by one each family member went into his room to say a private good bye. It was a very dignified and solemn occasion where everyone was dressed in their best Sunday cloths.
Finally the last person to go into the room was the youngest boy, grandson. The kid was scared because his grand father had always been causing him to get into trouble for things the grandfather did. Any way he sits down with his grandfather and his grandfather makes an apology as he recounts with the boy all the times he’d gotten the boy into trouble, more of a serious of admissions, but to make up for it he told the boy he had a present for him and it was hidden under the bed.
Long story to short, the boy eagerly goes under the bed to look for the present. Under the bed is lots of junk and it is extremely dusty, like never been cleaned before dusty. Also the boy is in his Sunday best. Since it was taking so very long the family came in to see what was the matter and found that the grand father had passed and then the boy resurfaces from having been crawling around under the bed looking for his present.
Needless to say the boy looked a terrible mess, and there had been no present, and thus the last prank was played.-
Now this was related to me as a story from a TV show. Likely a Hallmark or some such 70’s or 80’s time frame I’m thinking. Always wanted to watch it but never knew the name.

We should take to heart two warnings from this story. First, to distinguish our best options, we need to assess whether we are physically, emotionally, and spiritually stable; if not, we should wait. Otherwise, we might end up like Esau, who allowed hunger to cloud his thinking. Second, delaying gratification is usually a safe choice. For example, though a person may be eager to buy a car, it’s wise to shop around for the best deal. Our human desires can feel overwhelming at times, but we should prayerfully wait for God’s timing.

Hmmm. One thing “renewable” energy sources do is put enormous stress on the grid, especially since “hot” backup needs to be in place to cover the fluctuations in supply. Some backup, like natural gas (which Gruesom wants to kill) can be spun up quickly; others (e.g. coal) take longer.
All the while this flim-flammery is going on, there are frequency variations and various cutoff points to actually power down bits of the grid in case the frequency spread (caused by voltage drop, or less frequently, voltage rise) gets too great. So, stick this on top of the mandated cutoffs, and the bits of the network, transformers in thise case, that must deal with these fluctuations might fail. One fellow, years ago, on a computing blog who had experience with gigantic generators like in Hoover Dam related the story of one of the turbines encountering a short. The magnetic fields were so strong that the bent the rotor, IIRC, back on itself. Huge costs, lots of damage, despite all the protective equipment.
