2nd Sunday of Advent ~ God’s Peace
All around us, in these days, the lack of peace is everywhere; violence, hatred, fear, anxiety, worry and doubt abound: within ourselves and our families, between ethnic groups and religions, and between countries . . . everywhere. Our finances and employment situations rise and fall, the media uses our fears in the news to boost ratings, the entertainment world capitalizes on lack of peace to sell their movies and TV dramas, and political groups either claim or cause unrest to further their agendas.
During the Advent season, we look to the past to recognize and celebrate the effects of Christ’s 1st coming, and we look to the future in anticipation and a peaceful assurance of what Christ’s 2nd coming will bring.
Looking to the past, when Jesus died on the cross at Calvary, He gave us the means to reconcile our inherent sin nature and our sins with the holiness of God, the Father. At the Last Supper, Jesus said ” Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Christ’s peace is real for all who believe and trust in Him.
And when we rely on God, His peace is real also ” Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” And “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is kept on You, because he trusts in You.”
God is in control. Nothing happens that is outside of His will. When we turn to Him in our lives, we gain the greatest remedy for fear, anxiety, worry and doubt. God offers us something the world cannot give us . . . His peace, which surpasses all understanding, and which will fill our minds and hearts.
Peace from God is a state of calmness or quietness of spirit that goes beyond the happenings in our lives. God is the God of peace, Jesus is the Prince of Peace, peace is one of the fruits of the Spirit, and God blesses us with peace.
Looking to the future, when Jesus comes again, we look forward to the fullness of God’s peace, His shalom . . . an unprecedented level of peace that will encompass all life in the world.
“Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
This fullness of the shalom of God is more than inner peace or peace within the family, more than the absence of hostilities between ethnic groups, religions and nations. Its meaning encompasses completeness, soundness, welfare, success and peace. It’s even more than the reconciliation between us and God. The fullness of the shalom of God results in a universe governed by God in which all relationships are fully loving and just . . . all in a right relationship with God, and it touches every facet in life.
As we await the fullness of God’s shalom, we can trust God for our welfare. Jesus encouraged His disciples, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”.

Just when the hearing aids are turned on, the baby looks up because he/she hears the ambient sounds in the room for the first time. The look on the baby’s face is fantastic! This is just prior to hearing the first voice sounds (I assume the speaker is the baby’s mother). A miracle!

Well, to be honest, silence is the best remedy for me.
Once my ears drained out last night, the pressure at the jaw was not so bad. The big issue is my head is draining, so, it’s a matter of neti pot at regular intervals, and digging out my steam machine. The bug is strictly in the head, not effecting the voice. With all luck, I should be able to be ready in four hours. Cross your fingers.

It makes sense that you have a regimen that works for you, after so many years, but the newer bugs that crop up can wreak havoc.

Actually, the remedy that I can use, and which all choir directors cringe using, is menthol cough drops. They numb the throat, and you do risk injury, but after so many years, I know what I’m doing. Hopefully.

Well…the one silver lining I can come up with is that the cold weather causes trees to grow more slowly, thus the wood bands are tight. That, at this point, is the leading theory on why string instruments made during the Golden Period (roughly 1650-1750 or so) which matches up date wise with the Maunder Minimum, have such beautiful, pure tones.
Yep. Only problem is, we have to wait for them… but it’s well worth the wait… sometimes the trees have to dry for decades before they’re ready… but the wood… Another thing that might help is when the wood grows slowly, it’s more consistent (being denser), and probably vibrates better… probably helps guitars and maybe even woodwinds (wooden woodwinds, as odd as that sounds)… Thinking too of wooden piccolos and their overtone series with denser wood…

Regular folks like my hubby and I, have recognized the sense, logic, information vehicle, etc. that Q appears to provide. We had no knowledge of it, in fact, became more acquainted here, where Q posts were posted and discussed.
I’ve seen enough confirmation, and CLUES, that indicate whatever Q is – it’s not false – too many confirmed and proven instances shown. I’ve seen POTUS make that “Q” sign, more than once. And those in the know – POTUS – have that enigmatic look at times… about Q.
Another point to make is that regardless of whether Q is from POTUS or someone else, (I believe he has a hand in it) Q has done more to spread the news, keep people informed and actually unify #MAGA supporters – something that our side hasn’t had before. A common language and source of information does wonders for getting the word out.

Thank you, bakocarl, for a lovely threat here — and, frankly, an even lovelier Advent thread. I’m going to need to bail very soon — and, frankly, with some trepidation. I was gradually convincing myself that my CPAP machine wasn’t delivering enough air because its filters might be clogged — and this was making me groggy and goofy all day. [Turns out that groggy and goofy might just be me.]
So I pulled the machine and got it on a workbench…..and the little door that’s supposed to hold the filters in is entirely gone and it’s been running with no filters for months, and the intake pipe is filthy. So I partially disassemble it to another level and it’s still full of gunk, so I tear it down a little more and swab it all out and rebuild it…..and it would be no great surprise if the first thing it did tonight was cough-up a hairball. When I rebuilt it, I stuck on an air filter I had around (probably from a different unit, but….) and rigged a thing up with a paperclip to hold the filter in.
But I have no idea if I will be refreshed after tonight’s sleep.G’night, all!
I hope this works better for you. These machines can make a world of difference for someone who was getting poor sleep prior.

The Tennessee Promise program was first signed into law in the faraway year of 2014. It consists of a “last dollar” scholarship that covers anything Pell Grants and state assistance won’t when students sign up for certain community colleges and technical institutes.
The scholarship will cover two years of tuition for community colleges and technical institutes. The program is billed as a way to get more students enrolled in college throughout the state.
Requirements to maintain the financial aid are relatively simple — the minimum grade point average of 2.0 is not a tough academic performance to keep and a stipulation that mandates eight hours of community service per term can easily be knocked out in one weekend.
Despite the relative ease with which Tennessee students can maintain their free college experience, dropouts are still happening on a massive scale.

What started out as a hobby for 93-year-old Ed Higinbotham has turned into a holiday tradition.
“It’s just something that I enjoy doing, and now I make somebody else happy, and if that’s Santa Claus, then I’m Santa Claus,” he said, according to WLKY.
Higinbotham spends the entire year making wooden toys for local children, which include trucks, horses, tractors, and cars. The Pennsylvania State Police Department said it recently picked up 300 of the trucks to be given to local children at Christmas.

I am not eating chicken except in my home. When you learn that chicken is washed in chlorine makes you think twice.
I get box chicken and meats organic grown not washed in chlorine from Moink grass fed meats.
so when you make oatmeal raisin cookies, do you plump the raisins first?
In my experience, oatmeal cookies are very forgiving – the moisture proportion is not critical to success as it is in many cakes. So, I think it comes down to purpose and preference.
If you want a soft cookie, you might plump the raisins to go along with that consistency . . . unless you’d like the soft texture to not be homogeneous, then you might not plump them, so you encounter the chewier raisins.
If you like chewy or crisp oatmeal cookies, then not plumping them would seem to be the way to go.
I kinda like to use dried cranberries in oatmeal cookies . . . the cookie is plenty sweet and the dried cranberries lend a tartness that you don’t get with the raisins.
i always plump mine–cuz I do like the chewier versus crispier texture…just wondering if i was weird or not…lol

Keyes is a dynamic and wickedly smart speaker. Words roll off that guys tongue like no ones business. Often thought that rather than impeach Clinton have Clinton show up in the well of the Senate and have Keyes admonish him with one of his fiery talks.
Alas, Keyes lost to Obama in the senate race IMO because Keyes was going up against an already played out electorate and thus he endorsed reparations as part of his platform. Needless to say conservatives walked away and he lost badly to the Muslim. That was a long time ago.

Before disappearing into state politics that reparation stuff was definitely not his way, but he came to the state as an outsider and had to play to constituency made up off mostly takers and liberals. It had to be his internal polling or a closer look at the landscape that made him bend like that but yes, he pretty much tossed it all away in doing so and paved the way for eight years of Obama. Or was it the idealists that allowed it to happen when they pulled support? Even back then there were alarm bells sounding on who Obama was. Either way that was going to a be tough election in a place that already knew well how to cheat. Regardless, he fell far after that and his current position is a far cry from the one he once held. Reminds me too much of LTC Maginnes (sic) ex Fox contributor and where he is now. I’m pretty sure you were the one who brought me back to his attention, me having thinking he died (pretty sure I did read that somewhere). Sad to see for both, but they do find ways to persevere, lending voice and support for MAGA. Likes knowing there still out their fighting and have not given up. From the surface this appears to be the save muh institutions and save his own arse talk. Pure BS however this is not improper. The House Impeachment should be slapped down with impunity. Cass Sunstein has long been one of Barack Obama’s closest confidants. Regardless, Sunstein’s closeness to the President, as well as the highly influential position he occupies, merits an examination of the mentality behind what he wrote. He Really wanted Reagan to be POTUS but didn’t live to see it happen in ’80. Liked hearing him talk about the Fake News (obviously, he did not use that term) – pointed out how Conkite et al were pushing a narrative based on who they favored in the primaries.
He wanted Reagan for change, for finances, wanted to get out of bureaucracy gov., wanted the party and the fed gov to clean out.
