Pled vs. Pleaded
Both words are past tense of the verb Plead.
I was taught though, that Pled was the more correct past tense of Plead…similar to how ‘bled‘ is the past tense of ‘bleed‘…and that Pleaded was not exactly good grammar.
I was taught if used at all, that Pleaded was only to be used in more recent circumstances.
Example:
She pled for his innocence last week.
She pleaded for his innocence today.
However…Pled could also be used there:
She pled for his innocence today.
Lately I have noticed that Pleaded is being used more, almost to the exclusion of Pled. This has got to be another leftist plot to destroy our English language.

There are new Ryzen4xxxx-based lappies available and more coming out at the “starter” end, in time for start of school (Fakorona notwithstanding) which give a lot of bang for the buck, and are pretty much future-proof. The previous generation (Ryzen3000, e.g. 3200/3500/3700) will likely go on sale, but the new (4000s) are a much safer investment.
Just got a 3500er for my wife – wish I had waited just a tad longer. Still, it’s MILES ahead of her old one. (Won’t mention enything about “baking” the Nvidiot video card in the oven to reflow the solder 🙂 )It’s always a compromise between weight/size and price…sigh… But, her new lappie weighs half of what her old one does, and cost less, to boot…

Hi there. My dog got entaangled in the power cord and jerked it out of my two year old Dell laptop. It will not charge now. It isn’t the ccharger or cord. I suspect it’s the internal receptor for the charger cord. Do you think it’s repairable or worth repairing ?

Try physically resetting the battery. I don’t have a recent Dell available to look at, but it should be doable.
If it is just the power connector, then it should be reasonably easy to fix for anyone who can solder (note, a dying skill). However, power connectors tend to be soldered into boards which can have a variety of other purposes, and if that board is cracked it becomes a dicier call.
In general, the long-term value of a laptop tends to be (1) its screen; (2) the motherboard; and (3) it’s “comfort”. Memory is never enough, hard disks always fail, batteries are scandalously short-lived, and clock-speed invites other people to abuse it.
I used up almost all of the battery charge before I realized there was a problem. So it was running and did run after the accident. Plugging it in doesn’t help because the power doesn’t go from the cord to the laptop any more. Tried a brand new cord at the store. Didn’t work.
It is probably fixable and worth fixing. Unfortunately, you now have to find someone able to fix it — being that most of them are over sixty years old or don’t speak English that well……because electronics assembly was all shipped-off to Asia in the 90’s. Oh, and there are a bunch of people who will flat-out try to scam you because scamming wasn’t completely shipped-off. You might have some success with people in a ham radio club. Alternatively, you could try fixing it yourself and I’d be happy to try to coach you through the process.

Hi Miss Sylvia. If you’re daring (handy) or know someone who is, this can be repaired fairly easily w/ a screwdriver.
This year I have personally repaired 2 of these problems myself. Lots of YT how-to videos on
taking your laptop apart. Don’t be scared, it really is easy.
1st laptop, I actually had to order a replacement internal power connecter part, less that $10. New identical part came w/different housing so I had to bend the metal piece in order to attach the screw, then plug in to mother board and back in business.
2nd laptop, internal connector housing had become loose due to a sticky tab failure. Created my own new sticky tab solution to permanently keep housing in place.
Years ago, I spent over $500 for Geek Squad repair of this type. Was pizzed cuz I found part on net for less than $50 and they charged over $200 for it. I even offered to buy my own part and bring to them to install and they wouldn’t allow it. 😡 I swore never again.
PS, 2yr old laptop is very worth keeping if it’s a good one!

Remember last year when I installed my WiFi thermostat w/ PHC’s supervision? Shocked me that I figured my electricity issue before he did. However, it really was a joint endeavor. I gave the Master Builder an external project to focus on. His wisdom verified my logic, and also gave me (terrified of electrocuting myself 😱) the confidence I needed to be successful. We were an amazing team on that project!! Fondly remember my friend every time I use my thermostat😍, and that’s a lot!! 💓💓

Yup. You Tube videos are my go to source to initially figure out what is wrong. Can “I” fix it. And, how to fix it.
Very commonly fixing stuff is quite easy and very affordable.
One giant caution: If you’re going to open up a laptop, make sure the battery is removed first — then get a cup o’ tea before you begin. You really want it to be electrically inert while you’re working on it.
I, myself, like to spread out a towel where I’m going to work — if I drop a screw, it won’t bounce or roll. I also use flat-bottomed bowls for all the pieces I remove, so they don’t go wandering.

Sylvia – I have an IBM ThinkPad T470S I use. It’s very nice and I think it would be perfect for you. The T470S is not the latest model so you’ll still have to find something. I like TigerDirect but other folks may have other recommendations.
I wish mine had more RAM b/c I’m always hitting the upper limit with it. If I were buying one for my wife I’d make sure it had 16GB RAM. I also don’t like the keyboard layout – it is exactly reversed from the HP Elitebook I use for work. I also would make sure it had an SSD, and that the display is FullHD (1920×1200). Linux Mint has been great on it.
The HP Elitebook is also a very good unit and I recommend it very highly. Really you just have to decide which company you are boycotting today.

I just got my new desktop home tonight. It’s been with a friend while we’ve been building it – I didn’t want the kids getting into it, but it took us a couple weeks to assemble as a result. My goal is to be able to do a LOT more simultaneous work with a more powerful machine and operate with maximum power as a digital warrior. Custom built and spec’d from MicroCenter. I wouldn’t recommend this for you Sylvia, but it’s a monster machine w/ 12 cores (24 threads), 64GB RAM, and of course a beefy video card to drive 2xQHD Displays via DisplayPort. I’ve got a load of Ubuntu 20.04 on it right now which will be reloaded this week. Root OS on dedicate NVMe.
I wish you guys could really see it in action. This is a dang impressive rig. Will have a 20Tb ZFS pool shortly (SATA), w/ a 500Gb SSD front cache. When it’s fully up and running it should have unreal I/O performance. As for space, I can download the internet. Leastwise the parts I want archived. Super-quiet too.
The 2xQHD displays I bought in December on sale. I could’ve sprung for 4K but finally settled on the QHD’s as being both best value and best picture. Benefit for 4K was not there and frankly I fell in love with the picture quality on these QHDs.

[You might look to see if your laptop is mentioned on ifixit.com, to see how easy (or not) it is to open up, and then repair. Over here there are “repair clubs” where you can go and work on stuff, get help from experienced mentors (e.g. checking for broken mobo traces and resoldering the power jack), and put it all back together. There might also be the local technical college, etc. Two years is relatively new, although things have gotten MUCH faster in these last two years – NVMe SSDs, CPUs, flavors of USB/thunderbolt/lightning, etc. Still, it might not be too much trouble to fix, especially if you know how to solder. Good luck, in any case! ]

I have some 18 year old Altec Lansing speakers with a sub-woofer. They are still quite impressive 😉 But I rarely if ever get to use them – for some reason my wife and kids don’t like it when I play organ music like it’s a concert hall. Why have a great set of speakers if you can’t ever shake the house?

Had a friend who built a home theatre for his Dad in the basement of his Dad’s house, so he could watch his WWII movies in peace without disturbing the rest of the household. As his hearing declined, he cranked it up more and more, to the point that one day the neighbors called the police, fearing someone had broken in or something… talk about realistic sound reproduction…

I have a pair of Altec-Lansing “Voice of the Theater” speakers that my grandfather built probably 60 years ago. They probably need some refurbishment — I’d guess a recone and replacement of leaked-out capacitors in the crossovers. He ran the manufacturing line for a time.
He told me about his first day on the job. He walked the production line and told everyone, “you have been making speakers, good speakers, for a while. I’m not going to tell you how to do that because you already know. What can I do to make your lives easier?” He did stuff like move component caches closer to assembly points, and significantly improved productivity on the line.
With an 8th grade education.
I learned so much from him. Academia eventually awarded him honorary degrees because it was embarrassing to them to have him teaching people.
Real leadership is shockingly rare!

(1) Did you see the ZFS shootout at Ars Technica? The reviewer did it right and it was a VERY informative article. Plus, Linus doesn’t like it.
(2) I’m not a gamer, so I don’t care much about “twitch”….I wouldn’t have that kind of iron on my desk normally. When I’m moved and rebuilt, I’d probably be using T5500’s for my “back office”, with dual 4-core Xeons and +/- 12 G memory, off an SSD partitioned for OS and cache, with old-fashioned mdadm RAID. On the front end, which I can put EVERYWHERE, RasPi 4’s running up to 4K 60Hz, connected by Gigabit ethernet.

T5500’s are nice boxes. They can be upgraded to gamer grade pretty easily. I wouldn’t have sprung for so much but my last desktop I was limping by with was underpowered in every way for what I wanted to do. When it started having hardware problems that was all she wrote. I like being able to run a lot of VMs to contain and cloak my online activity and it just couldn’t take the load.
As an aside, it’s fun to run an x86 Android port and run mobile apps in a desktop VM 😉 I’m hoping soon to have an armada of RaspPi’s up and running as well.
Did you ever have experience with the Sun 1280R? I administrated one with 12 cores and 24Gb RAM – at the time it was a monster machine. Took over 20 minutes to POST. I kept having problems with it on Solaris 9 and upgraded it after Solaris 10 was released, was a lot smoother with the upgrade.

I could have — there was a ton of Sun hardware (and Silicon Graphics) at WeirdStuff Warehouse at various times — but I have to choose and manage the hassles I become involved with.
We are at a funny point in Moore’s Law — it’s still happening, but nobody can point to any benefit it actually provides. Memory and processor and cores and disk and SSDs and displays keep getting ridiculously cheaper but nobody notices because we’re completely flooded in S**T. The only thing that is noticeably getting faster is malware.
There’s another law which I haven’t found articulated which basically states that the resource demands of software grow to fill all presently available resources. IOW, developers only write tight code to the degree which commonly available resources constrain them. Likewise, the data sets are increasingly absurd.
This behavior is universal in commercial software, but somewhat mitigated in FOSS. Unnecessary bloat attracts too many eyes to be sustained. A classic example is the merge window and rc’s for the Linux kernel.
Sheesh — should have said “Dell Precision T5500″s.
There’s a really weird story that goes with these. These units were a corporate darling of a certain era — roughly 2010-2011 for “heavy hitters”, and a bunch went out on corporate leases — which are typically about 5 years. But in the five years when they were functioning as desktops, the landscape of corporate computing completely changed. Stuff was datacentered, SuperMicro rack-servered, or stuffed into the cloud. When they came back from lease, people were going, “what the heck is that?”
So you can get these guys on ebay for something like $150 for 8 cores and 12G of RAM (no disk). Mind you, there’s $30 of shipping and potential hernia surgery after receipt…..and they can be used as space heaters….
And they make very nice backend servers for RasPi’s. Linux was originally built as a multi-user system where everything was treated as a file. Even though environments such as Gnome or Cinnamon or Pixel are typically layered on top in a pseudo-single-user way, you can share keyboards and speakers and displays with gay abandon. Linux being linux, you can use Dell Xeons to recompile an ARM kernel for a Pi.
You can use Pi’s to manage flatpack and docker and VMs of all sorts, because their limited processing capacity and memory won’t have to deal with them — just run ’em on the Dells. This also opens up a variety of roles for inexpensive notebook computers.
Of course, right now I’m packing to move to North Carolina, and I’m using one of those behemoths as a daily driver with a would-be cache disk. But once I’m there, settled-in, and have space to arrange things in an organized fashion, I’ll get to have fun.

An “A-Z Car friend” of mine keeps wanting me to help him build something like this. I keep discouraging him. 1) He only surfs, uses MS360 local apps, and transmits to cloud. DOES NOT NEED/WILL NEVER UTILIZE this much power. 2) It can be incredibly EXPENSIVE. 3) Parts become obsolete fairly quickly, it will be a never ending endeavor (MONEY PIT🤑) for someone who always wants to have the latest and greatest 🥴🥴🥴
Me, I just spend the extra bucks up front on quality top of line I7 maxxed out gaming laptops w/expansion capability, they last me for years and years and years. I have 2 Sony’s still running, and now an ASUS ROG because Sony quit making laptops😭 – I’ve only purchased 3 in 17 years – Bought 2nd Sony because 1st one couldn’t go beyond Win7, Bought ASUS because 2nd Sony just died. Later opened 2nd Sony and blew out years of accumulated fan dust and now it works like brand new.
The other part is when you run Linux you can get a lot of years of life out of this equipment. Windows puts you on the upgrade treadmill. My buddy has a similar rig that is 7 years old and still in heavy daily use.
A rig like this would last me a lifetime😉, but my friend, NO WAY!! Always has to have latest and greatest!!🙄 Rarely listens to me when I tell him something, ALWAYS comes back later and says ‘you were right’. Many times I answer the phone ‘This is NOT 1-800-Tech Support” – he just laughs… I do not.😏😒
I bought a second-hand Macbook Pro – just to avoid the PC/Microsoft virus vulnerability.
The last brand new top of the line Dell PC laptop I had was afflicted with the dancing cursor curse that Dell technologist who made a house call could not fix. It was stolen in a burglary – good riddance!
The All in One HP my daughter gave me somehow got infected with a ransom ware cryptovirus and though the Geeks at Best Buy could get some of the data restored – I lost confidence in PC and never used it again.
In other words – I’m through with PC/Microsoft forever!!!
This 2011 Apple Macbook Pro has been fine and I can clean out the cookies manually to avoid problems that slow it down.

I found a reputable Mac dealer on ebay. Love my used laptop. They aren’t cheap – but no virus or dancing cursor or crashes. I’m fanatical about cleaning out cookies after surfing, though. Some sites will put as many as 50-60 ad/cookies/files/trackers on your computer. I clean out all FILES before paying bills and do not use or store any auto-passwords or auto-fill stuff.
Your comment about paying bills, GAFL, reminds me of a mild dilemma.
I need to make hotel reservations (locally) for Masters Week in early November…and, because there’s a pet involved I need to do it soon. However, most, if not all, require our credit card to reserve.
I have problems with an unknown entity having my card information for months ahead of the debt and am trying to figure out a way around it.
Any suggestions?
I would ask Michael H – or – ask your bank. My bank uses ID Protect™ watchdog/security service.
We have the service but the first thing they do, almost without notice, is cancel your cards….a royal pain! Been there, done that many times.

Like Wheatie said it’s handy to have a credit card with a low limit for making online purchases. I think PayPal has a service for this that ties to a PayPal account – but I never keep a balance on PayPal myself. Your bank can definitely help you out. Then, what I would do is turn on all the card notifications possible. I turned on a feature where the bank will send a notification for every transaction that goes above a certain limit – I enabled that and then I changed the limit to $1 which basically notifies me for every transaction.
In the last year between my wife and I we’ve had about one compromise/fraud event every 6 months (probably slightly higher). Our bank is very good about tracking these and most of the time they detect the fraudulent charges before I’ve had a chance to log into the account. The most important thing is a bank that catches them early, responds quickly, and doesn’t try to shift undue responsibility to you. This is why I prefer local/regional banks/credit unions over the Too Big to Fail Mega-National Banks.
As far as the card itself, the limit depends on how you use it. I’ve found that fraud is most likely when I’m traveling, so $500 is too low of a limit for hotels, airfare and car rental. Anything I can’t pay cash for I like to put all on one card to limit my exposure.
Basically, card fraud isn’t fun to deal with, but you can get from where it triggers an emotional fear and panic response, to where it is just an annoyance like filing a claim against your insurance.
Yep, separate credit card for everything! I DO NOT use my Debit card. Everything goes on Cash Back credit card which I use to pay all bills/make purchases. I earn money for using it, I pay off every month. I monitor EVERY transaction. This also ensures no one can get to my cash account. I earn $400 ++ per year minimum.
New CC Scam – Got an email of my upcoming UPS delivery. ??? Went to CC transactions, found Bogus $500 charge to camera store. Called bank, cancelled CC. Looked up store online and called to notify them and ask what to do about impending delivery. (Bank would/could not advise?!?! 🤷♀️😡) I couldn’t figure out why a thief would order something and ship to me?? Camera store lady said thieves use CC’s to order merch, and intercept/derail the delivery, but they circumvented by using UPS and requiring signature – I’m registered with UPS. Thieves had used alias email and phone # but couldn’t circumvent my UPS account. All I had to do was refuse package. They got their lens back, and of course I had the annoyance of dealing w/new CC.
Thanks for the info…Basically, the hotels just have a card on file to hold a reservation and then use any card you present to them upon checkout. …so it appears it could be a limited $$ card to reserve. Will definitely get on that this week.
I also have a debit card where a code is required to use it…that might be the way to go, now that I think about it.
Just be aware of your cardholder rights. A lot of debit cards you have as little as 48 hours to report fraudulent charges, where most credit cards it’s 30 days. YMMV. Just be sure you educate yourself on your bank’s policies.

Most sources say that the correct past tense is pleaded. Squiggly pleaded guilty. That dirty rotten scoundrel.
Garner’s Modern American Usage, the AP Stylebook, and the Chicago Manual of Style all say to use pleaded. You should also use pleaded as the participle, as in Squiggly has pleaded guilty.
Some people do prefer pled, and the AP Stylebook calls it a colloquial past-tense form. Nevertheless, most lawyers use pleaded. For example, in a 2013 ABA Journal post, a senior litigation associate named Brian Boone reported doing a Westlaw search and finding that “the U.S. Supreme court has used pleaded in more than 3,000 opinions and pled in only 26.”

“Pleaded” just sounds wrong.
That’s because it IS wrong, just like most of the ‘modern’ changes to words we grew up with. Change the word – change the meaning.
So who benefits from the changed meaning? If it worked for the constitutional convention, why would we change it?
Oh, right … nevermind.
Yeah, these are the same guys that keep talking about “pleadings”….
Which kind of leads into my own idiosyncratic way of varying my word usage. “I pled on my knees for mercy….” is just as part of standard English as “he bled on the carpet.” But a phlebotomist might say, “I did 50 bleedings today” and “the first one bleaded all over the chair.”
If you’re a lawyer and you deal with pleadings, you are likely to say “pleaded”. If pleading is less common for you, you are more likely to stick to standard English usage instead of legal argot.
Speaking of which, “argot”, “jargon”, and “cant” are quite close in meaning…..but they have slight differences in nuance.
‘Feed’ is another one…
‘Fed’ is past tense for Feed.
Not ‘feeded’.
But it IS kneaded and not kned.
But yeah, it is also read and read (red is occupied) and not readed.
Dread and dreaded.
But lead and led.

When native speakers can’t even get it right, have mercy on those learning it as a second language.

Again, unless it’s part of a profession. If you’re a data center operator talking about feeding data or an oil refinery operator feeding crude into processes, you may be more likely to use “feeded”, because of the “feeds”. But if you are talking about people at dinner, it’s “fed”.
Casting my mind back, I vaguely remember someone saying that they’d “feeded 30 stalls”, and were about to feed another 30 (w/r/t horses). Again, there is the subtle hint of having put something out there (you can feed an empty stall), vs. having accomplished the mission (I fed 30 horses).
‘Feed’ is used as a noun sometimes…
A sound feed…a video feed.
Horse feed.
When used this way, ‘Feed’ is a noun.
So it follows, that ‘feeded’ is used as an adjective or as a adverb.
In your example, for instance…
“…they had feeded 30 stalls”
In the process of feeding the horses, they had put feed in 30 stalls.
So those 30 stalls had been ‘feeded’.
If a sound studio has been connected to the feeds that it needs…then it could be said that it has been ‘feeded’.

Yep, you’re seeing it. If you’re doing it as part of a job, the past tense follows the job use. If you’re doing it as part of living, then you get feed/fed; plead/pled; bleed/bled; etc.
In legal terms, there is a ‘plea’…which is a noun.
Or someone might say:
“They made a plea for the crowd to calm down.”
So, unlike ‘feed’, the word ‘plead’ is always a verb.
I suppose ‘bleed’ could be used as a noun.
As in…”They did a bleed of the pressure level in the boiler.”
But I have never heard someone say “bleeded” in a context like that.
More likely it would be:
“They bled the pressure level.”

I’m glad they were ready to defend themselves and their property, but in some states, you can be in trouble for pointing a gun at someone unless you are ready to shoot (that is, you must feel you are in danger of imminent bodily harm and be at the point of shooting someone to stop that). Incidentally, I mentioned the Raspberry Pi 4 several times upthread.
There’s the obvious — it’s about the size of a credit card, it’s made by an educational charity in the UK whose goal it is to further kids’ knowledge of programming and computers.
But there’s another way to look at it. A Raspberry Pi is a cellphone with the phone stripped off.
That sounds like my Verizon Jetpack. It accesses the net via cell tower and connects via wifi to the various computers in the house. It has a SIM card just like phones do, and a battery so you can take it with you and your passenger can have net access on a laptop while transiting down the road. It’s the size of a large pack of chewing gum.
The thing with the guy trying to nudge his dog into the water and falling in himself just kills me…..not with the usual stuff, but with the dog’s obvious concern and readiness to try to fetch him out. Of course, a Newfie would have had him on the beach and been administering CPR in the same time frame…..
There was this program I saw a while back where they had a life raft with about a dozen volunteers drifting next to some rocks. The Canadian rescue patrol flew a helicopter over and just shoved a Newfie out about 20 feet over the freezing water. The helicopter broadcast, “let the dog do its thing” and then flew away.
After splashing down, the Newfie swam to the raft, grabbed a rope, and tugged it away from the rocks and eventually to shore, safely landing it.
It’s who they are, it’s what they do. There’s another hilarious video where a Newfie supervises a pool party.
Newfies are truly awesome dogs!

Everything the Covid-19 deniers claims about the non-lethality of Coronavirus and the non existence of a pandemic has turned out to be true.
The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced that its recent seriological tests of U.S. residents found that 10 times more individuals have had COVID-19 and recovered than previously thought (20 million compared to 2.3 million: source).
Currently, the CDC is counting 121,000 individual deaths as COVID-19 related. This means the Covid-19 related deaths are running at about 0.6% of all those ever infected in the USA.
However, when one examines the numbers of COVID-19 related deaths in the U.S.A., one discovers that most of these were not caused by the virus. Reports from the USA suggest that from 80 to 95% of cases had coronavirus but died from something else. That moves the real death rate to about 0.05%.
But that is not all.
Pennsylvania State University published a study recently suggesting 80 times more persons have been infected that previously thought.
That would mean that the actual lethality of COVID-19 is even smaller.
The lethality of the common winter flue is estimated to be 0.1%, as Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the NIHD, is always telling us.
The conclusion is, then, that there never was a pandemic, and COVID-19 was never a threat greater than the common winter flu.

Here’s the scary part: almost no one on the street is practicing proper infection control with regard to COVID-19. No one, including me.
The mask you wear all day gets contaminated from within by your exhalations and from without by the exhalations of others. Is anyone putting on a new mask every hour? Of course not. Even the best N-95 mask is a hotbed of germs, inside and out, after just a few hours. Paper masks degrade even faster, and cloth masks and bandanas are effective only for bank-robbing. They’re literally sieves when it comes to microscopic bugs. If you wear a mask without covering your nose, consider yourself totally unprotected. And an idiot.
Same for gloves — the pair your cashier wore at the supermarket had germs from everyone that cashier serviced before you. And then the cashier handled your food! Don’t even think about what’s living on the cash register’s keyboard; that alone will make you ill.
Protective goggles seal to your face; glasses don’t. If you’re walking around in public without protective goggles, to paraphrase the old song, bugs get in your eyes. And don’t even get me started on the “six-foot social distancing rule.” It’s a made up, arbitrary distance. Someone sneezing sends droplets much farther — someone yelling, farther still. The length of a football field is probably the ideal for social distancing.

Trump. That person(s) wil not have been vetted by the public because they will be inserted at the last moments of the campaign. They will not have to face Pres. Trump in debates and they will not have to travel and face voters directly and in town halls.
I only say this because we can’t get complacent. I’m preparing as best I can for whatever *they* come up with next to destroy Pres. Trump’s chances and the country along with him. Now is the time to stock up, gradually, on supplies, food, ammo, etc., and to have contingency plans in place. Right now the country is being torn apart by the biggest political hoax and coordinated mass-media disinformation campaign in living history.

The pilot is waiting for the plane to fall to an altitude where the air is DENSE enough for him to regain control of the airplane. He knows that attempting to recover control in the thin air of very high altitude where his plane flies it’s missions is not only impossible but can actually aggravate the loss of control.
5 minutes go by. 5 MINUTES!! 😮 an eternity in an emergency. Still our calm and collected pilot does nothing.
Finally, as the plane gets to 35,000 feet and air dense enough for the control surfaces to have real effect, the pilot very slowly begins to start the control inputs necessary to stop the spin and bring the plane back under control.
As the plane reaches 25,000 it is under control and levels out. At 25,000 it is 5 MILES above the earth.
The passenger, meanwhile, had passed out from hyperventilating and panic. Had the passenger been the pilot….OR had the pilot done what the passenger demanded….both would be dead.

Overview
1. According to the latest immunological and serological studies, the overall lethality of Covid-19 (IFR) is about 0.1% and thus in the range of a strong seasonal influenza (flu).
2. In countries like the US, the UK, and also Sweden (without a lockdown), overall mortality since the beginning of the year is in the range of a strong influenza season; in countries like Germany, Austria and Switzerland, overall mortality is in the range of a mild influenza season.
3. Even in global “hotspots”, the risk of death for the general population of school and working age is typically in the range of a daily car ride to work. The risk was initially overestimated because many people with only mild or no symptoms were not taken into account.
4. Up to 80% of all test-positive persons remain symptom-free. Even among 70-79 year olds, about 60% remain symptom-free. Over 95% of all persons develop at most moderate symptoms.
5. Up to 60% of all persons may already have a certain cellular background immunity to Covid-19 due to contact with previous coronaviruses (i.e. common cold viruses). The initial assumption that there was no immunity against Covid-19 was not correct.
6. The median age of the deceased in most countries (including Italy) is over 80 years (e.g. 86 years in Sweden) and only about 4% of the deceased had no serious preconditions. The age and risk profile of deaths thus essentially corresponds to normal mortality.
7. In many countries, up to two thirds of all extra deaths occurred in nursing homes, which do not benefit from a general lockdown. Moreover, in many cases it is not clear whether these people really died from Covid19 or from weeks of extreme stress and isolation.
8. Up to 30% of all additional deaths may have been caused not by Covid19, but by the effects of the lockdown, panic and fear. For example, the treatment of heart attacks and strokes decreased by up to 60% because many patients no longer dared to go to hospital.
9. Even in so-called “Covid19 deaths” it is often not clear whether they died from or with coronavirus (i.e. from underlying diseases) or if they were counted as “presumed cases” and not tested at all. However, official figures usually do not reflect this distinction.
10. Many media reports of young and healthy people dying from Covid19 turned out to be false: many of these young people either did not die from Covid19, they had already been seriously ill (e.g. from undiagnosed leukaemia), or they were in fact 109 instead of 9 years old. The claimed increase in Kawasaki disease in children also turned out to be false.
11. Strong increases in regional mortality can occur if there is a collapse in the care of the elderly and sick as a result of infection or panic, or if there are additional risk factors such as severe air pollution. Questionable regulations for dealing with the deceased sometimes led to additional bottlenecks in funeral or cremation services.
12. In countries such as Italy and Spain, and to some extent the UK and the US, hospital overloads due to strong flu waves are not unusual. Moreover, this year up to 15% of health care workers were put into quarantine, even if they developed no symptoms.
13. The often shown exponential curves of “corona cases” are misleading, as the number of tests also increased exponentially. In most countries, the ratio of positive tests to tests overall (i.e. the positive rate) remained constant at 5% to 25% or increased only slightly. In many countries, the peak of the spread was already reached well before the lockdown.
14. Countries without curfews and contact bans, such as Japan, South Korea, Belarus or Sweden, have not experienced a more negative course of events than other countries. Sweden was even praised by the WHO and now benefits from higher immunity compared to lockdown countries.
15. The fear of a shortage of ventilators was unjustified. According to lung specialists, the invasive ventilation (intubation) of Covid19 patients, which is partly done out of fear of spreading the virus, is in fact often counterproductive and damaging to the lungs.
16. Contrary to original assumptions, various studies have shown that there is no evidence of the virus spreading through aerosols (i.e. tiny particles floating in the air) or through smear infections (e.g. on door handles or smartphones). The main modes of transmission are direct contact and droplets produced when coughing or sneezing.
17. There is also no scientific evidence for the effectiveness of face masks in healthy or asymptomatic individuals. On the contrary, experts warn that such masks interfere with normal breathing and may become “germ carriers”. Leading doctors called them a “media hype” and “ridiculous”.
18. Many clinics in Europe and the US remained strongly underutilized or almost empty during the Covid19 peak and in some cases had to send staff home. Millions of surgeries and therapies were cancelled, including many cancer screenings and organ transplants.
19. Several media were caught trying to dramatize the situation in hospitals, sometimes even with manipulative images and videos. In general, the unprofessional reporting of many media maximized fear and panic in the population.
20. The virus test kits used internationally are prone to errors and can produce false positive and false negative results. Moreover, the official virus test was not clinically validated due to time pressure and may sometimes react positive to other coronaviruses.
21. Numerous internationally renowned experts in the fields of virology, immunology and epidemiology consider the measures taken to be counterproductive and recommend rapid natural immunisation of the general population and protection of risk groups.
22. At no time was there a medical reason for the closure of schools, as the risk of disease and transmission in children is extremely low. There is also no medical reason for small classes, masks or ‘social distancing’ rules in schools.
23. The claim that only (severe) Covid-19 but not influenza may cause venous thrombosis and pulmonary (lung) embolism is not true, as it has been known for 50 years that severe influenza greatly increases the risk of thrombosis and embolism, too.
24. Several medical experts described express coronavirus vaccines as unnecessary or even dangerous. Indeed, the vaccine against the so-called swine flu of 2009, for example, led to sometimes severe neurological damage and lawsuits in the millions. In the testing of new coronavirus vaccines, too, serious complications and failures have already occurred.
25. A global influenza or corona pandemic can indeed extend over several seasons, but many studies of a “second wave” are based on very unrealistic assumptions, such as a constant risk of illness and death across all age groups.
26. Several nurses, e.g. in New York City, described an oftentimes fatal medical mis¬manage¬ment of Covid patients due to questionable financial incentives or inappropriate medical protocols.
27. The number of people suffering from unemployment, depressions and domestic violence as a result of the measures has reached historic record values. Several experts predict that the measures will claim far more lives than the virus itself. According to the UN 1.6 billion people around the world are at immediate risk of losing their livelihood.
28. NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden warned that the “corona crisis” will be used for the permanent expansion of global surveillance. Renowned virologist Pablo Goldschmidt spoke of a “global media terror” and “totalitarian measures”. Leading British virologist Professor John Oxford spoke of a “media epidemic”.
29. More than 600 scientists have warned of an “unprecedented surveillance of society” through problematic apps for “contact tracing”. In some countries, such “contact tracing” is already carried out directly by the secret service. In several parts of the world, the population is already being monitored by drones and facing serious police overreach.
30. A 2019 WHO study on public health measures against pandemic influenza found that from a medical perspective, “contact tracing” is “not recommended in any circumstances”. Nevertheless, contact tracing apps have already become partially mandatory in several countries.

One constitutional argument that’s always confused us around here at Constitutional Accountability Center is the claim that there’s no right to vote in the Constitution – a claim even made by some of our progressive friends. In a recent piece in the Atlantic, Professor Garrett Epps explains the origins of this claim and offers an extensive (and persuasive) rebuttal. It’s well worth a read.
As Professor Epps makes clear, not only is there a right to vote in the Constitution, but it’s the single right that appears most often in the Constitution’s text – five times in all. In fact, four separate Amendments – the 15th, 19th, 24th, and 26th – even use the same powerful language to protect it: “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged . . . .” Of course, like every other constitutional right, the right to vote is subject to reasonable restrictions. Nevertheless, it’s just as much a constitutional right as any other embodied in our Constitution.

Two different senses of the word “right” are being conflated here.
There are of course the rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. But other things that are actually privileges granted by government are labeled as “rights” too.
Those amendments simply say you can’t deny a vote to someone who you’d otherwise give a vote to, on account of sex, age if over 18, etc. but you’re certainly free as a state government to deny it for other reasons (e.g., criminal record, citizenship) where other rights, actual rights, not privileges labeled as such (e.g., freedom to pick one’s religion) cannot be denied under ANY of those bases.

A lawsuit brought about by various environmental groups against President Trump’s border wall has been officially shot down by the Supreme Court. In a new decision, the Supreme Court agreed with a lower court decision to allow 145 miles of the President’s border wall to be built in areas where stubborn states have been challenging the construction.
According to Fox23:
The high court on Monday declined to hear an appeal involving construction of 145 miles (233 kilometers) of steel-bollard walls along the border in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas.
The Center for Biological Diversity, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, Defenders of Wildlife, and the Southwest Environmental Center had challenged a federal law that allows the secretary of Homeland Security to waive any laws necessary to allow the quick construction of border fencing. The groups had argued that violates the Constitution’s separation of powers. But a lower court dismissed the case.
This is not the first time the Supreme Court has weighed in on border wall construction during the Trump administration. Last year, the high court gave the administration the go-ahead to tap billions of dollars in Pentagon funds to replace barriers along the border with Mexico in Arizona, California and New Mexico with more robust fencing.
President Trump and advocates of the wall have repeatedly stated it is effective in keeping out fleeing criminals from entering the country. NCFIRE, a conservative legal immigration advocacy group, has documented hundreds of rapes by illegal aliens in the United States. However, the Cato Institute also showed that, statistically, most legal immigrants do not pose a violent threat to the United States, and that the data on all illegal aliens is murky, proving we cannot assume all illegal aliens are criminals.

Glad nobody got hurt. Those “protesters” broke through a security gate so I would probably pretty perked up if I lived there. Shooting is a perishable skill that need to be practiced, let alone all the different types, calibers, ballistics, … I’ll never even learn all there is to know about firearms.

I’ll play some catch up here in a bit, but a ground report from the girl whose stopping grounds for more than 25 years are being stomped on.
So, while I was out, I took a little ride to the cross street at Portland Place where yesterday we saw a couple in their bare feet defend their property with firearms. There were a couple StLPD SUVs at behind the entrance gates.
The gates were open. The next street south, Kingsbury Place, where the gates are far elaborate, there was nothing.
The truth of the matter is that these two streets are JUST south of Delmar, which is the “dividing line” in the city. Along Union, right there, north of Delmar isn’t too bad but by the time you get to Page it’s more than sketchy. So, the fact that these people own firearms and are not afraid to use them, is no accident.
So, I kept rolling through the Central West End where everything seemed normal, and looped around a block through Maryland Plaza to the Archbishop’s residence at Lindell and Taylor…nothing. Nada. Perfectly quiet.
I went west on Lindell to what I thought would be a quick in and out of Forest Park, and discovered that all the good cut through roads are blocked with crowd control parade barriers. Sneaky, especially since a previous regime took out all the REALLY good cut through roads because – get this – people were cutting through the park to avoid the lights on Lindell.
Okay, so I get to Fine Arts Drive that goes up and over Art Hill from the zoo side, and there was more crowd control barriers that are obviously set up to close off the street. It was open, so I went up the hill and Saint Louis, King of France was at the apex, sword still in his hand (legend has it it comes out of his hand), and scrubbed of all sidewalk chalk. I descended the hill only to find more barriers that would close off that street, and that the street at the bottom going east is also blocked to vehicular traffic.

Not that I was going that way, but still….
So, there you have it. For now, it’s quiet.

World-wide, the original private street is Benton Place which is off of Lafayette Square. There’s only nine houses there, but it’s private, and a loop with a median, IIRC.
All of the neighborhoods in the city, and in the county other than a few I’ve seen in Frontenac and Creve Coeur (REALLY rich people land), have an opening to a major street that doesn’t have a combination or remote control gate. You just have to know where it is. Otherwise, the gates are usually closed unless we get lots of snow.
On top of it, several streets have been closed off at one end to keep cut through traffic to a minimum. I’ll tell you what, it makes a difference. And in the city, and parts of the eastern county, if you know the alleys…piece of cake.
Sounds very fun to explore…in another time.
Yes, something changed, the neighbors who were NOT in on the scheme had a FIT. I must agree with Wolf, NO WAY those camera’s were in that prime a position, for the “money” shot, and BTW, if it is a gated community, HOW did they get in, most have access cards, and or GUARDS at the gates. There are no guards. I’ve never seen any surveillance cameras on the gates. Maybe on household property, but not the gates. It would ruin the historic profile.
There is private security driving around, now that I think about it, but the entrance to the neighborhood is on an east-west street called Lindell Boulevard, a street facing Forest Park lined with mansion which were consulates during the World’s Fair, which is south of there, and you have to know what you are looking for to find it. The mob came in from a north-south street, Kingshighway that’s to the east.
Bill Greenblatt is an award winning photographer. He’s a nice guy, really. Yes, I’ve worked with him.
He was in position, possibly, because the Post-Disgrace, Joseph Pulitzer’s legacy that was destroyed in 1986 – I remember when the stories and reporting started to suck – got a tip on BLM going to the Mayor’s house in that neighborhood.

I just walked in from another drive that way, this time going past the Kingshighway gates to Portland Place – AND Westmoreland Place – and went around the thing, about five blocks from the southern part of the ghetto, and about two from where the crack houses used to be on Washington. (They were razed not too long ago.)
The gate at Portland is closed and locked. The gate at Westmoreland is a temporary chainlink one where there’s usually wrought iron. The only media around was Channel 2.
There is an open entrance to that neighborhood facing Forest Park. But you sort of have to know where to find it. It’s not marked.
We’ll see what happens, but the BLM people can never get local support for anything but peaceful protests from the locals. Yeah, there’s a lot of yard signs, and I’ve been most dismayed at what neighbors have them in their yards, but none of those people would condone private property destruction for this sort of thing.
Democrats are out to lunch and don’t think things through, they’re also brainwashed, but not all of them are evil to the core.
BTW, on my impromtu tour of the CWE, that gate has been either replaced or repaired.

A new strain of flu that has the potential to become pandemic has been identified in China by scientists.
It emerged recently and is carried by pigs, but can infect humans, they say.
The researchers are concerned that it could mutate further so that it can spread easily from person to person, and trigger a global outbreak.
They say it has “all the hallmarks” of being highly adapted to infect humans – and needs close monitoring.
As it’s new, people could have little or no immunity to the virus.
Pandemic threat
A bad new strain of influenza is among the top disease threats that experts are watching for, even as the world attempts to bring to an end the current coronavirus pandemic.
The last pandemic flu the world encountered – the swine flu outbreak of 2009 that began in Mexico – was less deadly than initially feared, largely because many older people had some immunity to it, probably because of its similarity to other flu viruses that had circulated years before.

That virus, called A/H1N1pdm09, is now covered by the annual flu vaccine to make sure people are protected.
The new flu strain that has been identified in China is similar to 2009 swine flu, but with some new changes.
So far, it hasn’t posed a big threat, but Prof Kin-Chow Chang and colleagues who have been studying it, say it is one to keep an eye on.
The virus, which the researchers call G4 EA H1N1, can grow and multiply in the cells that line the human airways.
They found evidence of recent infection starting in people who worked in abattoirs and the swine industry in China.
Current flu vaccines do not appear to protect against it, although they could be adapted to do so if needed.

Holy Trinity Sunday
Mr. President,
In recent months we have been witnessing the formation of two opposing sides that I would call Biblical: the children of light and the children of darkness. The children of light constitute the most conspicuous part of humanity, while the children of darkness represent an absolute minority. And yet the former are the object of a sort of discrimination which places them in a situation of moral inferiority with respect to their adversaries, who often hold strategic positions in government, in politics, in the economy and in the media. In an apparently inexplicable way, the good are held hostage by the wicked and by those who help them either out of self-interest or fearfulness.
These two sides, which have a Biblical nature, follow the clear separation between the offspring of the Woman and the offspring of the Serpent. On the one hand, there are those who, although they have a thousand defects and weaknesses, are motivated by the desire to do good, to be honest, to raise a family, to engage in work, to give prosperity to their homeland, to help the needy, and, in obedience to the Law of God, to merit the Kingdom of Heaven. On the other hand, there are those who serve themselves, who do not hold any moral principles, who want to demolish the family and the nation, exploit workers to make themselves unduly wealthy, foment internal divisions and wars, and accumulate power and money: for them the fallacious illusion of temporal well-being will one day – if they do not repent – yield to the terrible fate that awaits them, far from God, in eternal damnation.
We will also discover that the riots in these days were provoked by those who, seeing that the virus is inevitably fading and that the social alarm of the pandemic is waning, necessarily have had to provoke civil disturbances, because they would be followed by repression which, although legitimate, could be condemned as an unjustified aggression against the population. The same thing is also happening in Europe, in perfect synchrony. It is quite clear that the use of street protests is instrumental to the purposes of those who would like to see someone elected in the upcoming presidential elections who embodies the goals of the deep state and who expresses those goals faithfully and with conviction. It will not be surprising if, in a few months, we learn once again that hidden behind these acts of vandalism and violence there are those who hope to profit from the dissolution of the social order so as to build a world without freedom: Solve et Coagula, as the Masonic adage teaches.
Although it may seem disconcerting, the opposing alignments I have described are also found in religious circles. There are faithful Shepherds who care for the flock of Christ, but there are also mercenary infidels who seek to scatter the flock and hand the sheep over to be devoured by ravenous wolves. It is not surprising that these mercenaries are allies of the children of darkness and hate the children of light: just as there is a deep state, there is also a deep church that betrays its duties and forswears its proper commitments before God. Thus the Invisible Enemy, whom good rulers fight against in public affairs, is also fought against by good shepherds in the ecclesiastical sphere. It is a spiritual battle, which I spoke about in my recent Appeal which was published on May 8.In society, Mr. President, these two opposing realities co-exist as eternal enemies, just as God and Satan are eternal enemies. And it appears that the children of darkness – whom we may easily identify with the deep state which you wisely oppose and which is fiercely waging war against you in these days – have decided to show their cards, so to speak, by now revealing their plans. They seem to be so certain of already having everything under control that they have laid aside that circumspection that until now had at least partially concealed their true intentions. The investigations already under way will reveal the true responsibility of those who managed the COVID emergency not only in the area of health care but also in politics, the economy, and the media. We will probably find that in this colossal operation of social engineering there are people who have decided the fate of humanity, arrogating to themselves the right to act against the will of citizens and their representatives in the governments of nations.

They are subservient to the deep state, to globalism, to aligned thought, to the New World Order which they invoke ever more frequently in the name of a universal brotherhood which has nothing Christian about it, but which evokes the Masonic ideals of those who want to dominate the world by driving God out of the courts, out of schools, out of families, and perhaps even out of churches.
The American people are mature and have now understood how much the mainstream media does not want to spread the truth but seeks to silence and distort it, spreading the lie that is useful for the purposes of their masters. However, it is important that the good – who are the majority – wake up from their sluggishness and do not accept being deceived by a minority of dishonest people with unavowable purposes. It is necessary that the good, the children of light, come together and make their voices heard. What more effective way is there to do this, Mr. President, than by prayer, asking the Lord to protect you, the United States, and all of humanity from this enormous attack of the Enemy? Before the power of prayer, the deceptions of the children of darkness will collapse, their plots will be revealed, their betrayal will be shown, their frightening power will end in nothing, brought to light and exposed for what it is: an infernal deception.
Mr. President, my prayer is constantly turned to the beloved American nation, where I had the privilege and honor of being sent by Pope Benedict XVI as Apostolic Nuncio. In this dramatic and decisive hour for all of humanity, I am praying for you and also for all those who are at your side in the government of the United States. I trust that the American people are united with me and you in prayer to Almighty God.

I have no idea if this guy is for real or not, but he has dropped some very interesting information before.
Linda, for the umpteenth time let me say that Scalia died a natural death. He was a very sick man, with multiple ailments – heart trouble, sleep apnea, and likely most any other condition that overweight Italians are prone to have.
He did not use his breathing machine the night he died. His cause of death was a heart attack caused by his body’s struggle to get oxygen to his blood while being held back by his apnea blocking his breathing.
He had to have known the danger to his life by failing to use his machine. I was told the day that I was diagnosed with COPD that the end on the disease is death by heart attack and that wearing it every night was the best way to prolong my life.
Because I am certain Scalia knew that he MUST use the machine at night, his decision to not use it was deliberate. He new it would kill him if he didn’t, yet he didn’t use it. He was choosing his time and manner of passing. IMO, he probably got a cancer diagnosis or some similar severe disability (maybe a brain tumor) which caused him to reassess his life.
And he decided, with the concurrence of his wife, to pass away far from her so she would not have to find his body. She knew that was the plan so when the coroner said heart attack, she ordered the cremation so that her memories would be decent ones instead of the best efforts of a mortician. He was a private man which is why we never had a hint of his medical issues. He was best friends with Ruthie and he could see what her health issues were handled by the bloodthirsty press. I’m sure he wanted to avoid putting his family through that.
Love ya. Sometimes an inconvenient death is only so from our viewpoint.
Do you have evidence that Justice Scalia committed suicide? I believe the Catholic church teaches that suicide is a mortal sin. (Others here can elaborate.)

I have severe sleep apnea. It is nothing like what you describe. If you stop using your machine (or the machine malfunctions) you have headaches and discomfort and increasing confusion. Only after a week or so do things start getting truly weird — random blackouts during which things happen and a weird sort of narcolepsy. It is nothing like flipping a switch.
