Ground report. Passed a long strip of car dealerships today. Every single one of them had mostly empty lots that looked very picked over. One clever dealer tried to hide their low inventory by parking the vehicles diagonally so that one vehicle covered three empty parking spaces. I have no idea if Memorial Day weekend sales cleaned out their inventory, or if there’s a vehicle shortage. I’ve never seen it like this before.
The mask situation at the grocery store was interesting today. Not a single elderly shopper was wearing a mask. Not one. They’re over it. The next biggest maskless demographic was what I’d “grizzled white men”—the tough looking construction worker types. Almost everyone else was masked. It’s weird how the mask situation fell along such stark demographic lines.
Lack of Computer chips. Carmakers have stopped production for weeks. My BF is due for a new 22 GM company car, ordered months ago, supposed to ready in June. Just heard delivery is now scheduled for late fall.

They would build up and build out only to find out that demand had collapsed due to whatever. When I drive to work, there is a radio ad for a car dealer who offers to pay up to 130 percent of blue book value. His rationale is that he would rather get local cars than to buy from the auction house and not know what he’s getting. He does not mention the chip shortage, but bflyjesusgrl is right about the chip shortage. I have read about that too. Here in Virginia, we can skip the masks if we are vacinated but they don’t require proof. Most are ditching the masks at the convenience store and elsewhere including the liberal grocery store in college town that I went to over the weekend.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho – News that the world’s largest beef exporter, Brazil’s JBS S.A., intends to purchase Smithfield Foods and National Beef Packing Co. has raised concerns in the U.S. beef industry.
The acquisition follows on JBS’s purchase of Swift & Co. last summer and would put JBS at the top of the heap in U.S. beef production.
Swift was ranked third in U.S. beef production at the time of last year’s acquisition, and National Beef and Smithfield are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
If the newest deals are approved by the U.S. Department of Justice, JBS would surpass Tyson Foods and Cargill Meat Solutions in U.S. beef processing.
The surprise announcement by the three company’s has the nation’s two leading cattle groups – usually in opposition with each other – somewhat aligned on the issue.
R-CALF USA, which rallied against the Swift purchase, is calling on the Justice Department to block the JBS purchases.
National Cattlemen’s Beef Associa-tion, which supported the Swift purchase, is calling for a thorough review of the purchases by the Department.
“We urge the U.S. Department of Justice to rigorously investigate the potential impacts of this proposed purchase; to prevent its consummation pending a thorough investigation; and to ultimately block this proposed purchase should evidence be found indicating any reduction in competition to either the U.S. cattle industry or the U.S. beef industry,”
R-CALF USA President and Region VI Director Max Thornsberry said in a letter to the Justice Department. “Should this purchase materialize, the market power concentrated in the hands of the remaining three packers Š would intensify, as would their propensity to exercise this market power to the detriment of competition, resulting in economic injury to independent U.S. cattle producers and U.S. consumers.”
R-CALF USA Vice President/Region II Director Randy Stevenson said the purchases go against antitrust laws meant to protect producers.
“R-CALF has taken a strong position against these JBS purchases for good reason,” he said. “The Justice Department must make absolutely certain that U.S. laws are adequate – and that there is adequate enforcement of those laws – to ensure U.S. cattle producers and consumers are not subjected to anti-competitive practices.”
Last June, NCBA Director of Communications Joe Schuele said his organization didn’t have any concerns about the Swift purchase and that foreign ownership would help avoid further concentration in the industry.
Now with JBS intending to purchase two more of the top five processors, NCBA President Andy Groseta, a beef producer in Cottonwood, Ariz., said NCBA does have some concerns.
“Until JBS’s entry into the U.S. market, most experts thought Swift would be acquired by one of its domestic competitors,” he said. “JBS’s purchase of Swift kept the number of major U.S. beef processors at four, while many had predicted that number would fall to three. JBS also brought significant investment to the U.S. processing industry at a time when it was badly needed and enhanced production at plants that many had feared would close.
“There is a stark contrast, however, between the Swift acquisition and the latest round of announcements from JBS,” Groseta added. “If the Smithfield and National Beef acquisitions are approved, JBS will essentially consolidate the third, fourth and fifth largest U.S. beef processors into a single entity. We all know that further mergers and acquisitions are likely to happen in the packing industry. But by most any measurement, the impact of these transactions would be quite dramatic.
“For example, the ‘Big Four’ presently hold about 66.5 percent of beef slaughter capacity. After the proposed acquisitions, JBS and its two largest remaining competitors would hold more than 77 percent.”
That, R-CALF USA contends, would cause injury to competition in both the U.S. cattle industry and the U.S. beef industry, which would result in harm to both independent U.S. cattle producers and U.S. consumers.
“Imagine if you will, the day before the purchases are announced, that three buyers from Swift, National and Smithfield meet together to discuss their plans to buy slaughter cattle,” Stevenson said. “If that occurred, those buyers would be in violation of antitrust laws against collusion.”
Those activities of three of the largest processors would most certainly hurt the price of live cattle, he said.
“But, on the day after these proposed acquisitions, the same three buyers could discuss their plans without breaking the law. Who among us would expect the outcome on live cattle prices to be any different?” he posed.
Groseta said while the proposed JBS acquisitions are bound to get cattlemen’s attention, they will also receive some “well-deserved regulatory scrutiny.”
“The National Cattlemen’s Beef Asso-ciation supports a thorough review by the Department of Justice and other federal agencies with responsibility to review agriculture mergers and acquisitions,” he said. “And we feel this review must consider buyer-side impacts to agricultural producers as well as seller-side impacts to consumers, so that a competitive environment is maintained at every level of commerce in the cattle and beef industries.”
Thornsberry agrees, saying media reports indicate JBS has been cited by the Brazilian Justice Department’s antitrust division for engaging in anti-competitive practices to keep cattle prices low when purchasing for slaughter.
“The U.S. Department of Justice should independently investigate the circumstances surrounding any such anti-competitive practices alleged against and/or committed by JBS before allowing this proposed purchase to proceed,” he said. “Specifically, the department should determine, as a precondition for this sale, whether U.S. laws are adequate, and adequately enforced, to prospectively prevent a recurrence of the kind and type of anti-competitive behavior as was alleged to have been perpetrated by JBS in Brazil,” he said in his letter to the Justice Department.
The proposed JBS purchases would include $565 million for Smithfield’s beef operation and $560 million for National Beef’s business, according to press releases from Smithfield and National Beef.

JBS isn’t like any other U.S. beef packer. For starters, it’s Brazilian and is owned and run by a family, the Batistas. Also, the family has a long history of being cattle producers. Founder Joe Sobrinho Batista runs one of the country’s largest cow-calf operations and JBS is a major cattle feeder in Brazil. Moreover, JBS has backed up its talk of growing its U.S. beef business by actual results in its first year of operations.
So when JBS USA CEO Wesley Batista (the middle of three sons who run JBS SA) spoke to cattlemen’s groups this spring and summer, producers began to realize a different type of owner was now in charge of the former Swift and Company. While most people reserved judgment about JBS’s proposed acquisitions of National Beef Packing, the Smithfield Beef Group and Five Rivers Ranch Cattle Feeding, at least some of their concerns dissipated.

Our local grocers, the house meat, it’s all processed locally. IDK where exactly it comes from aside from being in the country, but it’s not from those big processing companies.
Many private sellers/small farmers sell only by whole or side of beef. This can be more than what one’s freezer and/or one’s budget can handle. Even when we can buy only a 1/4 the price is usually such a savings that we buy 1/2 anyway (sometimes up to $2 less a lb if we buy a 1/2 v. a 1/4).
Anyway, usually easy to find someone or several go in together. Extra work but time with friends as you go through the order and then can grill after! 🙂
Will have to sort and weigh (we had 1 farmer who didn’t label weight but most do which saves the need to weigh) and list and then divide out. When I had a number of people go in with us I made a master list and sent it via email to each person buying some of the beef in the order they had responded to let me know they wanted some. I marked what we were buying first, sent it on to the second person who marked what they were buying etc. I ask that everyone expect to buy about 2lbs of ground to 1 lb of other cuts so that I am not stuck with all ground beef.
Usually about 50-60% ground beef (or ask them to make as much stew meat over ground meat but will still be a lot of ground meat) and then the other cuts.
You will fill out a cut sheet – easy to look up online recommendations on how to fill out the cut sheet which is your directions for how you want your side of beef cut (like requesting as much stew meat over ground as possible). Also, especially if you are paying “on the hoof”, get soup bones and organ meat and tallow (fat). You are paying for it so might as well get it all! Soup bones will make delicious broth and tallow can be rendered down pretty easily and then used in cooking. It keeps a long time. We keep ours in the freezer except for a jar we are using so it keeps even longer. We let it cook in shallow baking dishes so its easier to break off pieces to use (tallow is Very hard).
We lived in 900 sq ft apartment (yes, that was fun – busy boy, big dog, homeschool and H worked from home … all in 1 900 sq ft apartment!) and had a 1/2 deep freezer tucked in a corner with the food dryier on top. Couldn’t afford to buy even a 1/4 by ourselves. But found ways to make it all work as we wanted local, healthy meat.
Sharing in case others wonder how it works.
You will want to ask questions, (dry hang? how many days? grass finished? hormones used? etc.) and learn the difference between on the hoof and hanging weight etc. Also recommend making a number of calls to regional sellers as price can differ widely.

local food groups, esp. organic or “slow” food groups + local homeschool groups will be great places to find people to split out sides and source of info on local farmers not on the sites (we have found great ressources on the eatwild.com site), etc.

NOW is the time to locate a local meat processor, farmer, whatever.
Even if you have to drive and hour or two out into the country, find a place to get meat. I am lucky, it’s a ten minute drive for me.

There are also local coops that buy in bulk and pass the savings to members.

I should add that the new Food Safety Modernization Act drove many small abattoirs out of business. Here in NC, you used to be able to raise rabbits and chickens and take them to a guy who would slaughter and flash freeze them for you. No Longer
I know of only 3 abattoirs left in central NC,
Key Packing Company has a 6 month weighting list and mainly does cows.
Another is KNOWN for stealing a lot of the meat. (For goats, you should get at least 50 lbs dressed weight for every 100 lbs live weight. If you get 30 to 40 lbs instead you have been cheated. He also sells to the muslim community.)
The last abattoir, who does goats and sheep, does not SELL individual cuts and they are who I use despite the hour +1/2 travel one way. He does sell live animals so you can buy an animal and have them slaughter it for you.
Texas is rectifying similar laws here. Things are getting a little better.

The Fauci “too long to read” email is on pages 2002 – 2009 of the linked Schachtel FOIA Fauci email archive.
On page 2010 of the email archive, there’s an email of March 18. 2020. from Dr. Francis Collins, the head of the NIH, to Dr. Anthony Fauci, “seeking guidance” regarding whether Collins should engage with the press about the CCP Virus if Fauci is ‘too busy”. Collins wants to be able to “coordinate” his potential statements to what Fauci is doing!
From the Collins email to Fauci:
“I could use your [Fauci’s] guidance on press interviews…But what is your preference for printed press pieces, when you can’t do them all?…If I were to engage, I would certainly seek to provide answers that are 100% with what you are doing.”
So it would appear that Dr. Collins was in on the situation from the start — Or, that Dr. Collins is an ignorant government bureaucrat doing the “circle the wagons” thing.

I don’t know if you’re precisely the guy at UCD who I should be talking to….but I’m pretty sure that if you’re not, you know who it is, and could forward the message to that person.
I was discussing various preparations with a herbalist who jokingly refers to herself as a “hedge witch”, and we were talking about a variety of decoctions that were boiled for extended periods of time, but were often bitter. Having made beer before a few times (as a hobby), this perked-up my ears. So I started thinking of supplementing / replacing some part of the bittering hops in the boil with other herbs….so I jaunted off to Wikipoo and found “[t]he bitterness of beer is provided by compounds such as humulones, or alpha acids from hops used during brewing” and “The International Bitterness Units scale, or IBU, is used to approximately quantify the bitterness of beer. This scale is not measured on the perceived bitterness of the beer, but rather the amount of iso-alpha [hop] acids.” [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_measurement ]
So, IBUs aren’t directly applicable to non-hops….but what if someone wanted to concoct a brewed beverage that would have some nuances from famed liqueurs like Chartreuse, yet be as quaffable as a microbrew? What if you wanted to include cinchona bark and juniper berries into the early part of a boil in hopes of the ultimate Gin and Tonic for mowing your lawn?
How, then, would you avoid “For a while the extraction of a mixture of alkaloids from the cinchona bark, known in India as the cinchona febrifuge, was used. Mind you, I have successfully adjusted recipes from one season to the next based on the varying IBUs of hops available in each year. The IBU is a VERY useful tool. Could the concept be extended to other substances?

An interesting topic here. There’s a growing trend for brewers to add alternative plants to enhance flavor and aroma. There are hundreds of compounds that contribute to the bitterness taste. But thus far, we believe only hops contain the alpha-acids that are detected once isomerized during boiling. The IBU method has its limitation and the industry knows this. The method is quite specific to iso-AAs. And we also know that 1 IBU does know [Note: presumably a typo for “not”] = one bitterness increment on a sensory score. Its more complicated. Ideally we use liquid chromatography to separate all the bittering compounds but its expensive and not easily accessible to all breweries. The fall back is using IBU to give an indication of potential bitterness. I would expect if there’s a university near you and it has a chemistry or food science dept, they would have students who would be interested in doing some analysis (with beer as payment). Another interest is publications. The more data out there the more we learn about the complexities of bitterness and how to incorporate alternatives.

I do know that for centuries, beer was flavored with all kinds of herbs. Hops started as a preservative, and people grew to like the bitterness.
Mugwort, hyssop, licorice root and all kinds of things were added for flavor. Brewers are doing it again. Nothing new under the sun 🙂

I think back to when I was really young, and we drove across the USA every year. On a normal person’s budget, only my father working.
Gas was MUCH cheaper (10 cents a gallon in some places), cars, groceries, food and lodging, basically EVERYTHING was cheaper. And built to last.
Go into a gas station, three, four, or five young “grease monkeys” would run out and check your tire pressure, oil and water, etc. levels, top them off (for free), clean your windshield (and often the rest of the windows and mirrors), and pump your gas, for a low and fair price.
You might even get a free set of steak knives or something on top of that. And then, going over to the bank, you’d get maybe a free cookbook or travel book, free checking and advice, and friendly service to go along with low fees and reasonable (if not high) interest.
At the grocery store, prices were low/fair, food was fresh and healthier, and, shock, not imprisoned in plastic to help it go from green to rotten without passing through ripe… There might be a tube tester (machine) to help out with your recalcitrant TV, which was simple enough you could usually repair it yourself, or, if not, get it repaired for a reasonable price. There were specials such as “the Big Book of Science” or “Webster’s Unabridged” which you could buy chapter by chapter over three or four months, ending up with a huge but useful reference manual.
Service, friendliness, honesty, hard work, and integrity were a given back then.
And things just didn’t cost as much, even correcting for inflation, and we always got some sort of bonus as thanks for being a customer.
Now, service is terrible, we have negative interest, fees charged on everything, and gouging is not only customary, it’s expected.

So, I had this doctor visit on the first…..which was covered on that thread. But two things were very curious.
The medical building had a guard station at its entrance, and signs saying, “no visitors” and “no public bathrooms.” Whether this was COVID or the homeless, dunno. Everyone inside masked, one with additional face shield. While the person in front of me was being processed, a woman came in in obvious distress, and I told her she should go ahead of me. I gathered by the end that she had driven her mom to an appointment in the building and by the time her mother came out, her back teeth were floatin’ — but I could just discern her distress and the basic reason for it at first. When the person in front of me moved on, she hesitated and I waved her on.
Anyhow, she quickly informed the station attendant of her issue (and I got details by shamelessly eavesdropping), and was directed to head down an adjacent corridor and head for the door by the plants.
So, I get up to my interrogation, and have my temperature read (not on face, interestingly — more theater) which was recorded on a form, disclose my appointment, which was recorded on a form, disclosed my name, which was recorded on a form. I was then given a copy of this form to brandish as a “hall pass” like in elementary school and allowed to proceed.
If I were a young lady in my teens or twenties, and the Doctor I was visiting was famous for terminating pregnancies, I’d imagine this would be an egregious violation of HIPPA that would cause heads to roll. Instead, it’s just another example of how many people would rather be the enforcers of a police state.
I took my hall pass up to the suite with the doctor I was visiting, and checked in — and they took my hall pass to attach to their checkin paperwork in their files (?). I, then, was told to find a seat — only to find that EVERY SEAT in view had a taped X on it, or was entirely taped-off. When I asked, “umm….where?”, I was told that the X’s were meant to keep patients from sitting adjacent to one another. I then clarified that the bench seats meant to have two occupants could still be used on the non-X’d-side…..
I’m gonna put this up and come back to weird point #2…..
OK, the second weird thing was during the physician’s assistant weight, BP, questionnaire, drugs, etc. data input.
She asked if I had been vaxxed and preemptively flinched.
She asked because it was on the required script, and immediately started saying, “you don’t have to answer” and physically pulling away (which was too bad, ’cause she was cute). I let it hang for a couple of beats and just said, “no.”
But it was a very weird moment. I’m a 58-year-old CPA that wears shorts and funny t-shirts and doesn’t shave regularly. I’m not really prone to randomly attacking people….and the PA was scared of that question.

Pastor Artur Pawlowski was celebrating his daughter’s baptism and birthday on Saturday.
Shortly after we met with him for an interview, he and his daughter went to the grocery store to purchase a few essentials, and most importantly, a birthday/baptism cake. He has also been subjected to threats, his church was vandalized — the list of abuses he has endured goes on, and that is before we even mention the horrific circumstances surrounding his arrest and imprisonment.
The malice towards Artur reached new and troublesome heights on Saturday, when a man approached Artur at the grocery store and began to verbally denigrate him in front of his daughter. Artur suspected the man might be suffering from mental illness, so he quickly paid for his goods and attempted to leave the store.
Artur told us that as he was walking to his vehicle, the man charged at him, attacking him repeatedly in front of his daughter and punching him in the head. Artur is well-trained in martial arts, but the assailant was an older man. Artur feared he might injure him if he fought back, so he attempted to retreat repeatedly instead of striking. Artur photographed the attacker and his vehicle before the man left the scene.

At least one Virginia university (I’ve been asked not to say which) is moving forward with a mandatory reporting database of employee vac status, and have confirmation from EEOC and university legal counsel that they have firm legal standing. They also were assured the data is not HIPPA and does not require HIPPA IT security metrics, and does not require anonymity.
Uploading images of the CDC vaccination card is required for any “yes” respondents. Any fake or fraudulent images are grounds for immediate termination. Any employee who responds “no” or do not wish to respond will be required to continue wearing a mask and be subject to mandatory frequent covid testing. They have not decided if they will mandate the vaccine, if they do it will of course be required for continued employment. Any required vac boosters will fall under these reporting requirements as well.
The reporting system for students will be managed through the university health center, and I have no info on that at this time.

From time to time on this site I have stated what I believe to be true, that every person ultimately or fundamentally is a person of faith, and that each person chooses his faith. That belief took me many years to apprehend and then to comprehend, something which came later in life. For instance, the faith of an agnostic is that he doesn’t know. An agnostic believes he doesn’t know, and chooses to believe he doesn’t know.
A couple days ago I came across a quote from David Foster Wallace in a context which is not relevant to this post. I was surprised, and reminded again how there is nothing new under the sun, we are just ignorant of it.
I would not say what Wallace says here exactly matches my thoughts; it is less embracing, less metaphysical, and less “judgmental” (so to speak), but it is the same type idea:
Here’s something else that’s true. In the day-to-day trenches of adult life, there is no such thing as atheism. There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship. And an outstanding reason for choosing some sort of god or spiritual-type thing to worship – be it JC or Allah, be it Yahweh or the Wiccan mother-goddess or the Four Noble Truths or some infrangible set of ethical principles – is that pretty much anything else you worship will eat you alive.

I haven’t listened to any of them. Are they really still using the “Golden EIB microphone”?
Why did they replace Bongino? He is much more dynamic than Sexton.
I have listened to Sexton’s program while driving in the past. IMO, he doesn’t have what it takes to follow Rush. He strikes me as slightly immature (the last part of his program was usually banter with his producer about movies and the like), and I didn’t think he was MAGA through and through, as if he could be swayed by public opinion about “mean tweets” and such (though I never heard him mention that specifically).

Turns out that Sexton will be doing the Rush Limbaugh radio show with a “second host”, a guy named Clay Travis (who is a combo of political commentator + sports commentator). Never heard of Travis.
Listened to Bongio’s podcast yesterday, not sure if it was from the day before. He gave some convoluted answer that I didn’t fully listen too. What it amounts too I believe is that the top syndicators were not so ready just to hand over their prime slots to someone from another syndicated market. Some of the top syndicators only carried Rush and are going back to their own pool for the replacement.
So apparently the replacements are Buck Sexton, Clay Travis (whoever the hell that is) Dan Bongino and Dana Loesch in the larger markets. Everyone is saying they are the replacement and in essence they are for their market and their market only and I guess everyone is supposed to be putting on a happy face about it, but most are like . 🙄 ahhh okay.
I always have been suspicious of Sexton. I always wondered he is the one who killed Bin laden. Where are the other guys who were with him? He took all the glory. Cannot help myself to be suspicious of a guy who worked in team effort and he just happened to supposedly pull the trigger.

My question about the UN vehicles above was a legitimate question on my part when I received the photos from a friend.
I have no idea why such vehicles are in South Carolina but replies suggest that UN vehicles have been seen in other states.

The photos were taken last Friday by a Patriot who served several years ago in our military between 9 and 10 a.m.
The transport was being followed by a white Suburban and was headed in the opposite direction from the Charleston port.
My followers have informed me of similar sitings in recent days of UN vehicles in North and South Carolina, Kentucky, and Virginia.
I am NOT trying to get you riled up to start looking for black helicopters.
I am suggesting that you keep your eyes open for UN vehicles in our country until we know exactly why they are here. Demand answers.

Yup. It’s BENZENE.
Here is the truth. We used to use benzene EVERYWHERE, and it was in EVERYTHING. It was one of the BEST and most common solvents. Calculations showed that it caused SIX cancers (leukemia) in the United States every year. It wan’t PROVEN – it was GUESSED. We substituted TOLUENE for benzene – at the cost of billions of dollars – but toluene is MORE ACUTELY TOXIC, and causes all kinds of other problems. Things may have actually been WORSE by substituting toluene. Nobody ever proved that the move away from benzene was a win.
This was SOVIET CONTROL OF SCIENCE. It was pure Jimmy Carter and government run amok, and that is part of why Reagan was elected, and why they tried to kill Reagan.
We were NOT asking the complete questions – asking WHAT was really changed by altering society around TINY EFFECTS.
We used to pour benzene everywhere – use it for everything. THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR.

I think they’re REALLY after preppers now, but it’s dribbling (OK flooding) down to the rest of us. I can’t imagine how the Boy Scouts can even do campouts anymore, what with not being able to gather wood, severe restrictions on how, when, and where they can even have a campfire (OK, when the forsest itself isn’t alight 🔥).
Then again, the Boy scouts anymore probably couldn’t light a fire anymore unless there was an app for it, and they had time between their macrame, felt needs, and transi-rights classes…
I think the Red ChyNees are not just sterilizing the USA’s (and the world’s, for that matter) youth; they’re sterilizing and neutering any processes of mental and phyical maturation. Dumbing down the schools, making the youth physically unfit, perverting the gift of the sexes and destroying the family thereby. And then, what little creativity is left to bring to bear in science, art, and other endeavors is stolen or corrupted.
Almost as if they turned the Scout Oath and Scout Law upside down. Times were, we could gather wood, light fires (safely), bring in Sterno and lanterns, and fuel, and sometimes even Coleman Stoves for special events. We also were obliged to leave the sites cleaner than we found them.
It would be interesting to send some of these globalist maggots off on a 50-mile or two-week survival hike and see how they did, and how many came back alive… if any… hardship, in their wicked minds, is only something for the proletariat…..
I hear you. The destruction of the Boy Scouts is a true crime. Interesting how that worked, now that I look back on it.
