Thanks. She was a really good person. Not much older than me, but she fought a weight problem her whole life, and was way over what she should have been. We weren’t actually friends away from work and work related activities, but we worked together for so many years, she was basically a neighbor. She was exemplary as a human being. One thing I am certain of – she is with the Lord!

A HS classmate died about a year and a half ago. She was also overweight for as long as we were acquainted. BUT…and this is a biggie…she was a smoker. Heart attack.
In Silicon Valley, there is a great deal of pressure for employees to “swear allegiance” to a company goal — the next software release, the next hardware gizmo…..
And I’d often talk to my team.
I’d say, “if this project is the most important thing in your life, I don’t want you working for me.”
I’d tell them that they should value their health, so they can perform their obligations to those that matter. I’d say they should value their integrity, lest they be valued only for their lies. I’d speak of the value of their families, without which we disappear from the great flow of mankind. I’d inform them of the common fairness and decency they owed everyone in order to maintain the system that sustained their own lives.
I’d say, “think about the top five most important things in your life, and if this job is higher than eight or so, you should spend time thinking about why.”
Your coworker kept her priorities in order, and was revered as a level-headed straight-shooter and colleague.
May she be long remembered.

I don’t think I even attended a funeral until well after college. There was one funeral during college (a month before graduation) I *should* have gone to but I couldn’t have afforded it, and my parents wouldn’t pay for it even though it was my grandfather. That was probably the right decision in hindsight; it could only have mucked up my final push to graduate.
My grandpa died in the middle of my grad school days, but in August so I was able to make it back home. unfortunately my brother was vacationing w/ his girlfriend (later his 1st wife) & her family in the Ozarks, we didn’t know exactly where so couldn’t find him in time, so he missed out 🙁

I actually have relatives this happened to, and they weren’t given the help they needed. They have suffered terribly for years. People actually feel guilty, as if there were anything they could have done. If a person is determined to suicide, there is really nothing anyone can do.
So much pain . May Christ the healer suround the family and embrace them with His love in Jesus name Amen.

Home from an airport run. Wow there were a lot of delayed and cancelled flights.
Late run!
My sister checked off one of the items on her bucket list and hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and back up. She got in the car and said, “I am never doing that again.”
Ha! At least she checked something off her list.
That entire area has very weird effects on the body. The rim can easily have an elevation of 9000 feet — and things may look the same….but hauling weight (and even boiling water) can be very different than they were back at home.
She said the elevation was around nine thousand.
Apparently, they did a side hike on wet rocks, and she did it like she’s been doing it all her life in shoes that are not water shoes. Well, see, we’re from Missouri where wet rocks are in all the rivers where we float, and at Johnson Shut Ins. So, yeah, she’s been doing that most of her life.
I did the same thing river tubing in Belize. Just walked right across the river. Didn’t need the rope that served as a bannister. Nah.
That’s a heck of a hike. And in the summer, it’s BRUTAL. People die intermittently.
One of my mom’s cousins had to be airlifted out. So, I guess it was Friday when one of my parents said, “Has anybody heard from [her],” and I said, “no news is good news. If we haven’t gotten a call that she had to be airlifted out, we’re good.”
My sister did some pretty intense hiking training in a couple of the county parks here that have big hills. She said that made a difference.
Was she on the North or South rim?
For some reason I want to say south. I’ll have to ask.
South is the most common!
All I know is she was an hour and a half from Flagstaff, Arizona.
South rim makes sense based on 1 1/2 hours.
North rim likely 3-4 hours from Flagstaff..
You basically have to drive into Utah to get to the north Rim from Flagstaff.
A lot of those “Mormon” polygamists like to live in that part of Arizona because it’s so annoying for Arizona law enforcement to get there. I honestly think AZ and UT should consider a swap, so that the state line is along the Colorado river the whole way, or at least most of the way up to where the river comes out of Colorado. (That would make Moab part of Arizona.)
Or at the very least Arizona should redraw its county lines such that the area north of the Grand Canyon is its own county.
My husband is contemplating such an excursion w/ his hunting buddies, perhaps in a couple years…
whoops Hiking buddies, the ones who did the 55 mile Lake Superior hike in Pictured Rocks bear country…
When I first went to the Grand Canyon, my first stop was the gift shop (bathroom).
The first thing I saw was a book about all the deaths that have occurred at the Canyon!
I was pretty cautious after that.

In the mid 70’s I got interested in Tesla, could only find two biography’s written by people “of his time”. The up’s and down’s of his career were on the whole rather sad, I think he got a really really bad deal from the money men.
I loved the way that when he couldn’t get certain things because they just weren’t made he just improvised and made his own.
Like when he needed high voltage condensers (capacitors). He made his own out of a metal tank of salty water in which he placed a number of glass bottles each filled with salty water and wire in each bottle.
There was a discussion as to what type of bottle would stand the stress without breaking, from memory I think they settled on empty champagne bottles. Same when he was making the huge coils on a ring of posts knocked into the ground, he used empty glass food jars upside down on the tops of the posts to insulate the windings from earth. That’s re-cycling with a proper purpose 🙂
Have you seen the book, if I remember right it was called “The Colorado Springs Diary”. It’s filled with direct scans of his writings ideas sketches drawings etc., really fascinating.
I believe there used to be blue glass coverings over the electric wires adjacent to the train tracks in Northern Michigan. We can occasionally find some of that blue glass when walking along the tracks. For a similar purpose perhaps?

Yes, he did win the argument with Edison over alternating/direct current. But I really doubt there was anything to the transmitted power (or if there was, it might have been unexpectedly loud). However…I admit I haven’t really dug deeply.

I read a comment by you from a couple of days ago on modesty.
I certainly agree that there was a drive to sexualize women over the last century. Think the Roaring Twenties. It has changed gradually over the years by decreasing the age of the females sexualized to now include little girls.
Two Comments.
Little girls should NOT WEAR MAKE-UP until 16 or so and then only a bit of lipstick and blush. This goes for adult women too. Paint yourself up for an evening out but keep it subtle for every day wear. (Make-up is bad for your skin anyway.)
Second. WEAR LOOSE CLOTHES. Not two sizes too small, ‘Painted on jeans’ Dresses are not necessary if you dress modestly in reasonably loose clothing. (Again too small clothes are bad for your health.)
For what it is worth I had that conversation in the early seventies with the old sergeant on base who ran the woodworking shop. His assistant was a young woman who insisted on wearing ‘painted on clothing’ and lots of make-up and then complained about the soldiers harassing her all the time.
I had ZERO problem even though I was in pants too and a frequent visitor to the shop. We were the only two women in the place and the same age and body type. The difference was in how we dressed and presented ourselves. The guys talked to me but never harassed me as they did her.
One of the first rules in advertising is to highlight the product.

How to dress in public begins when children are small. I see parents in the summer take kids out only in a diaper or swimming suit.
I always dressed my kids if my daughter was in a swimming suit and we were going quick to the store I ask her to put a t shirt and shorts over it the same with the boys. Kids learn early on what is acceptable and what is not.
No heels until 16 no see through stockings.
My daughter was in dancing there she learned how to dance in heels or wear make up but when dancing was over make up came off and she put on flats . I never had to say anything. Same with her daughter she is going to be 19 never wears make up does not need it she is beautiful. My daughter and granddaughter are both modest but not frumpy. They could wear a sack and still be pretty. Both have a catching personality .
My other granddaughter is the same .
I was shocked over the years buying clothe for my granddaughter how suggestive the clothe was. My granddaughter gave up loves sporty clothe from REI.
If we stop buying the clothe for kids then makers of clothe will make better clothe appropriate for kids. I have noticed some mothers cannot wait for their daughters to grow up and it is sad.

Reading through these comments, I have to relate a story.
As I’ve said frequently, I taught for 25 years in a “troubled” school district. Not urban warfare troubled, not an unsafe workplace, but with all the same “neighborhood” problems in a suburban setting.
One of our revolving door, affirmative action administrators (necessary in the environment) was a decent assistant principal — but quite hefty. Unfortunately, her very nice salary and benefits were not at all reflected in the quality of clothing she selected. She always wore pants so tight as to resemble a sausage casing.

Right. I don’t understand that at all. Much of talk radio discusses problems where we have no solutions that are obvious at the moment of discussion. Then videos of that get disseminated, and we have videos that present problems without solutions.
Most of the expert videos of doctors talking about COVID and the vaccines through their evolution over time have presented problems without solutions because no one can stop the Left’s juggernaut of mandates at the moment. Many of the doctors present therapeutic protocols that we can follow, which is one type of solution, but no one could “solve” the overarching problem by making the hospitals stop listening to the CDC and actually treat patients. But our knowing about all of it is crucial. It helps us to find solutions ourselves, it helps us to know how to fight back and what we’re fighting against, and it shows *them* that we know and are not going to take it sitting down.

I think something is going on. Years ago people were asking if we sell our house. Now we cannot get anyone to paint or fix my boiler. Yes the boiler guy took the boiler apart said the electronic part is in Columbus but not getting it to my place.

We always pay no problems we have good credit but cannot get anyone to fix anything.

I have natural oak windows , Just the idea of moving the crap and unpacking to make stuff. Is fall a good time painting the insight of the house?
Outside need painting it is a brick house but windows and dormer need paint. The guy who did it last time showed us good paint and after the first year painted mold started to grow never happen before. Paid $5000 for the job and am not happy.
Is just to high to paint ourselves. Is not much paining but they cannot do it with a ladder. I am at the point to replace 100 year old beautiful windows with new one so not to have to paint. Just leave the dormer.

This is why I hate the property tax as much as I hate the income tax.
You can, through no fault of your own, be forced to sell an asset to pay the tax on it; in the case of the property tax due to inflation, and in the case of the income tax, if you inherit something worth far more than your (previous) net worth. (Interestingly this objection would not apply to a tax on actual monetary income as opposed to assets.)
At least with a sales tax or even a value added tax, the tax is somewhat commensurate with your ability to pay it, since it’s a percentage of what you spend.
It is an unbelievably unjust idea to tax people on a perceived increase in value — a figure which is easily manipulated — when that same value could decrease, and does, with swings in other economic indicators. One could be forced to pay thousands of dollars on perceived value, losing not only that money but also the resale value if it decreases. It is control of the sort our founders fought against. It is someone looking over our shoulders to monitor us and see what they can get out of us.
Knowing about schemes like this is crucial because I would never have thought of something so outrageous. You have to know the enemy to most effectively defend against them or to go on offense against them.

Interesting. I do like cash that is real money to me then taking the credit card out to pay. Takes almost two months in some instances to get the bill. For everyday expense cash is good for travel credit cart is better. It is all a mess a willfully made mess.
For travel a Debit Card where you can load actual money onto a card seems like a better bet as long as you do not lose it. We used American Express Checks when traveling.

Parliament Moves, Elections Let Empire Losses Accumulate
Yesterday saw three important political events, each with an outcome that is unsatisfactory for the U.S. and its European sidekicks.
In Pakistan the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) party had left the government coalition. Additionally some members of prime minister Imran Khan’s PTI party had change sides. The opposition in the parliament was preparing a no-confidence vote against him. At the same time a report by the Pakistani ambassador to the U.S. said that U.S. officials had warned that Pakistan would stay on their enemy list as long as Imran Khan was left in his position.
This was understood to be a call for regime change with rumored bribes pushing the swing votes against Khan.
Yesterday the deputy speaker of the parliament did not allow the no-confidence vote to take place. Imran Khan then asked the president of Pakistan to dissolve the parliament and announced new elections within 90 days.
The case is now in the hands of the supreme court of Pakistan which, after a session today, will continue to hear the case tomorrow.
It seems likely that the supreme court will make a ‘wise’ decision, blame everyone and agree to new elections. It will then be the voters who will have to decide mainly on an issue of Pakistan’s foreign policy. Should it be independent and friendly with China and Russia or should it change back to the U.S. side?
I haven’t found any recent polls from Pakistan but a few days ago Khan’s party had won the local elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The people may well be impressed with his position and give him their vote. As usual in Pakistan the military, who’s leadership tends to be pro-U.S., may intervene though I doubt that it will have sufficient public support for it.
In Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban has won his fourth election with his party again gaining a two-thirds majority. Hungary is in the EU and in NATO but Orban has his own ways and is friendly with Russia’s president Vladimir Putin:

A runoff vote, two weeks after the first round, between Macron and Le Pen could have surprising results as the people on the left will probably not vote for the neo-liberal Macron for the sole purpose of keeping Le Pen out of the Elysee.

Press Tv had an article that said the US attempted a coup in Pakistan because Khan would not allow US bases in Pakistan and that Pakistan wasn’t falling into line with regards to Russia. Khan on Saturday accused the United States of being behind the parliamentary no-confidence motion, calling it an attempt at regime change backed by Washington.

I don’t know. And sneakers on her feet? She looks as if she has gained weight (not just in this photo). I am not surprised that her weight would change in either direction with all the stress she’s under (much of it of her own making or facilitation, IMO). I can’t imagine having to deal with Dementia Joe in private, and especially in public appearances where her every move and word to him is scrutinized. She asked for it and she got it.
To me they look like people who were desperate to get into office to shield themselves against investigation, and it’s starting to crumble and they’re stuck. It’s a decaying regime.
