FWIW, Brave doesn’t log me out, even when I close the browser and shut the computer down.
When I start the computer the next day, and launch Brave, it reopens all the tabs that were open the day before.

You are very possibly riding on a WP.com login which is saved in your Brave passwords, while you may or may not have saved your password for THIS SITE in Brave. That saved password (either one) is what enables you to be logged into multiple tabs of this site using a single login, and to not have to retype the password in a new tab. You will likely LOSE THIS when you log out next time. You may need to save the password for THIS SITE using Brave’s password function. That will return the desired behavior of not having to retype your password.
If you have trouble, holler. I can talk you through any changes.

I have a wp login that works for my site and Maricas, and used to work for this one too–log in once and I was good to go for all three places. when i reset my password, I now have a different login for this one…using user name (instead of email) and a different password.

Given that you’re supposed to have a different password for every site (and I agree with that advice actually)…it’s not for the organized either.
If you can’t do a different one for every site, at least have one you use ONLY for your email and one ONLY for things like on line banking. Any place that has your credit card info should have its own password too (I don’t let them store my card info if they give me a choice). And of course a unique password for here, given the amount of attacks we have here.

OK…so keeping track. A notebook is good until you get burglarized.
You can run keepass, too, that lets you cut and paste passwords.
Qubes actually comes with keepass installed on its templates; the default installation has a “Vault” Qube that has NO internet connectivity and that’s where you’d use keepass. (there is a way to copy and paste between Qubes so you can copy/past from the Vault to whatever qube you’re using to surf the internet.)
For banking and brokerage, I have RSA keyfobs for 2FA.

Has one of those too! Hand written so snoopy internet demons can’t see it. Has a new one also that is typed out on computer with the log in ID and password left blank to be filled in by hand. Needed that because the dang note book got big with lots of scribbles but it’s still a go to in times of confusion.
Meanwhile, I’ve been with this site since inception and one thing I do to avoid all this stuff is never log out of the site. I’ve only had to log in about 5 times thus far and luckily I had the pass words.
I have the passwords because I use my standard “I don’t care about security for this site” which never changes unless some site forced me off it and I need a new one.
The only ones that are different have financial worry. Those are of course different passwords. And then theirs govt sites which force new passwords all the time.
Anyway, because I don’t ever log out this current kerfuffle has not effected me at all. Yet! Fingers crossed.
It is very likely that you are using the same password for both – many people do. If not, and you don’t remember, you can simply reset your password when it fails, by letting the login know you forgot your password. I think you have a sane, non-political ISP for your email. You may have to check Junk Mail for the email at the worst.

Sometimes my connectivity is so slow that the page doesn’t load properly and I see huge yellow stars for the post rating and nothing is laid out properly. This is generally after 5-10 minutes of spinning and not finishing loading.

I didn’t log out of yesterday’s post, but I opened this one and logged in again. (That is normal for my computer; if I open the site in another tab, I have to log in there as well. I’m okay with it.) It will not take my user name but requires my email address instead, but it did take the new password I entered earlier today. So far so good!

I think that WP.com seems to like usernames, and when you have JetPack, it basically rewrites the login functions, so it makes sense that it like usernames, which it can control to some extent, since it’s making you log in through the WordPress password that they own, too.
This site, however, using WP.org software (public WordPress) is more likely to trust emails as unique.

OK, I tested my situation. I’m using Brave right now.
I logged out on one tab, and that logged me out of all my tabs for pages on this site. Many of those tabs then displayed a login widget. A couple of pages with over 500 comments did not display the login widget, but when refreshed, they lost the black WP.org menu bar at the top.
I was able to log back in using my username (the “@” name, but without typing the “at” symbol). Just FYI. No problems – worked like a charm. There may be some rule about when to require username or email.
Anyway, that logged me into all the pages, HOWEVER many of those pages still displayed the login widget, which I simply clicked away. A few pages with many comments had to be reloaded to display the black wp.org title bar.
Everything seems to be working OK.

It seems that there are almost always nuances in the law or in what someone has said to help them escape arrest. I don’t know if Newsom has said anything directly to warrant arrest, yet.
I believe the law should be followed without exceptions. I also think that sometimes when the opposition is perceived as being persecuted, especially unjustly, that that rallies their base and sometimes even makes people migrate to their position or party. But I’m not advocating for letting officials off the hook because of that.

I have observed this to be the Libertarian mindset over the years: Stand for something that has no chance of succeeding, and stand against the things that, while not perfect, would advance the cause over time if pursued consistently. Back in the days when I was a Libertarian activist the state party hosted a lecture called “Dancing With The Devil” where the guy was arguing that incremental compromise was appropriate.
I agreed with him then and do now. The only exception I’d make is to look carefully at the compromise; is it a dead end that would make further progress down the road impossible? For this reason I oppose education vouchers; they give states control over private schools AND people retain the mindset that education is a government good. We’d never get to the end goal (gov’t out of education) if we had them.
Currently the goal is get the Federal Govt out of Education.
Vouchers put tax dollars back into the pockets of select people with school age children who otherwise could not afford private education.
If the goal is not to have those kinds of people who can not afford private schools fine. We can stop there. It’s an elitist argument but a valid one.
Otherwise Incrementally we can solve the problem of State control in Education by setting up a clearing house where parents can cash the voucher and take it to the school of their choice and thus no ties to state government. 😁

A voucher would by its nature have to be spent on “education.”
Who decides whether the use it’s being put to is “education”? If the parent you have opened the door to fraud (“John Smith spent his voucher money going to Disneyland, claiming it was educational”), and so there will be a government overisight organization of some sort to prevent the fraud.
Once they get to label what is an approved use of the money, they have control.
Interesting point – especially if the trip to Disneyland is intended to educate children on socialism, pedophilia, media evil, and all the rest, by taking them on an “eyes open” educational trip to Disneyland. “See that Goofy grabbing those teenage girls? We’ll AVOID him, her, or whoever that is.”
it will be an interesting argument because schools do field trips. we accompanied our kids on their field trip to the state capitol which was basic sightseeing but the kids had booklets which required answers which could only be found by visiting certain historical sites.

It’s not like they can go in and get another voucher. One voucher per school year per child.
The point made was to protect private schools from State interference.
Spending the money elsewhere will not harm the schools and of course there should be plenty of ways an individual can spend the money to include supplementing with so called educational trips, home schooling, tutoring or used as tuition for a private or charter school.
Incrementally again a rider can be attached to restricting how the individual spends the money that does trace back to the private school in such away that the state can then demand certain actions from the private school. Decouple vouchers from state control over private schools should be easy.
Part of the reason for vouchers is to make public schools compete for their money with the idea the competition would force public schools raise standards or suffer further loss.
Again if the idea is keep private schools pure from lower or mid income students that’s fair but of course bad apples are not confined to social economic boundaries and they exist everywhere though I’m sure they are more controllable without vouchers.

If the state grants the money in ANY WAY it will arrogate to itself the right to make sure it’s not spent “fraudulently” so it will only be able to be spent on schools that THEY certify and they will impose CONDITIONS on such certifications.
Some states get deeply into the business of “monitoring” home schooling and I don’t think they pretend it’s about spending oversight.
It can be as light a touch as having the kids take standardized testing (just to be sure you’re not just blowing off their education), or as heavy as mandating textbooks.
Colorado is (or I should say, was) pretty light.
But see with homeschooling, they (as you said) don’t pretend it’s about fiscal oversight.
They can’t because homeschoolers do not use tax dollars.
I’ve mainly been talking about vouchers and tax credits (be they refundable or not); that’s tax money and it WILL come with strings attached, if nothing else in the guise of preventing tax fraud.
In Ohio, the Demmunists do everything in their power to attach strings to any form of education or education money that escapes the iron grip of in-classroom public school and teachers unions. When we did homeschooling, some of the rules were still frankly oppressive, despite constant battle by the Republicans.

I said I oppose them but that was in the context of what new legislation we should support as incremental compromise, versus what we shouldn’t. I won’t push for new school voucher programs, tax credits, etc. If they already exist there’s no point to banning them, at least until it’s part of a project to eliminate all state involvement in education.
If it’s not clear (others following this conversation might have mistook me) homeschooling should be fostered by the culture; those are people educating their kids without burdening taxpayers. I make a point of loudly thanking anyone when they reveal they are homeschooling or did homeschool.
[Of course the lack of taxpayer funding doesn’t prevent some states from massively interfering with or even banning homeschooling, but that makes my point stronger…if they’re dictatorial enough to mess with homeschooling you can bet they’ll use tax money strings on private schools given the opportunity–if they don’t already.]
Also, programs allowing people to take their kid out of the local government school that sucks worse than the others, and put them in a better government school, I have no issue with; the new school is already government controlled and can’t be polluted further by taxpayer money.

I wasn’t even talking about home schooling, I was talking about vouchers/tax credits being used at private schools.
So, the “correct” solution is to remove all public schools. (I’m good with that.) And get the government out of the business of educating children altogether.
If families need their olders kids taken care of during the day, let them take advantage of the new kinds of self-taught learning.

The simplest way to do that is go cold turkey. Privatize every single school. Keep the current staff on, subject of course to being fired if customers hate them. (We all remember teachers who should have been effing fired and would have been if parents had any control.)
The biggest obstacle is that many state constitutions mandate that “public” education be provided. Colorado’s even has an escalator clause for the funding. (Politicians here complain about the combination between our property tax restrictions, that escalator clause, and tax limitations; the education budget grows at the expense of everything else in the budget. That puts a squeeze on pork and actual stuff the government should be doing.)
Do you know of any think tanks or other sources of white papers on the subject? I think it would great to work towards getting government out of the education business. Even at University levels.

Yup – same around here in east TN where we live. The only time many of us lock our doors is when we are notified a criminal is on the prowl or escaped. Even then most will not do it unless they are leaving the house because of, well, 2A. That’s open hunting season. 😂
Our crime comes primarily from illegals, tourists, and the crims that follow them to take advantage. ICE and local law enforcement are handling the illegals well. My SIL is getting a bit bored in his job lately as the arrests have gone down so much lately due to the illegals being removed or self deporting.
Will always have to deal with the drunks, druggies and rowdies associated with tourists and those who prey on them. They get an occasional leftist or redneck idgit phoned in bomb threat that never has legs. SIL gets OT for those since he is a bomb tech, so he never complains. 😀

Now that I know that the coronavirus can trigger MCAS, and that zyrtec is useful as the H1 part of the H1 + H2 treatment for MCAS, I’m wondering if the itching is simply some poor souls that can’t clear the spike and so removing the H1 throws them back into the MCAS condition.
i used Xyzal daily since it first came out 17+ years ago. It stopped being effective for me about two years ago. I tried Zyrtec again – no luck – same family of drug. I experienced none of the itching coming off them.
I have now gone back to Allegra, which I took when it first came out and it is working for me well again. Got to switch them up occasionally it seems.
I’ve been taking Claritin forever. I supplement it during bad allergy days with Sudafed.
Actually I like my nettle leaf tea. It has me off my allergy pills much of the time.

One of the neighbors have a young girl (teen) who has FINALLY after a year of cruddy medical care, been diagnosed with the problem.
Even with the medication she has been given she is still vomiting and in major pain.
Prednisone? It is anti-inflammatory.
Ask your pharmacist.
I think that is probably what she is already on.
However there are other non-prescription drug possibles such as short term diet of only white rice for a week or so and then add other foods (small amounts) slowly to see what you are reacting to.
I had to do that with my severe allergies to isolate just what was causing my symptoms.
I think the white rice diet, adding back one food at a time, is a good idea.
Also, home-fermented veggies (sauerkraut, pickles of all varieties) would be good to try as she adds back foods. They have good probiotics, which can help. I would avoid yogurt and dairy ferments until she has determined whether she has a milk issue. I was fine with yogurt for years, but just in the last couple, it sets my gut right off!
There seems to be some connection between Crohn’s and lack of sun. That suggests to me that good old vitamin D might be in play. She could have a vitamin D blood level test to see where she is.

Doctors of course are going to go drugs like Prednisone and other steroids. Depending on the doctor, they may not even address gut health at all.

I also know of one person that was cured with a non-standard treatment. Been symptom free for over 10 years.

I watched the (short thankfully) videos on the tau structures wondering if any of that was in play with my mother’s very strange, precipitous neuro-degenerative (presumed) condition…but didn’t gain any specific insight. I did wonder if they’ve actually also looked at brain tissue of those Not diagnosed with Alzheimer’s etc. in case the strange tau (mis-) foldings are present, yet without any disease being manifest…

Yes – they have definitely done controls on this, although I hesitate to say what the results were, exactly, because I think changes in tau proteins may happen for other reasons, which may or may not lead to symptoms.

Some say that the tau is found because it’s part of the immune response to INFECTION. So, tau is not the cause, it’s the body’s response to an infectious cause. 🤔

It’s just convenient. It is considered cool to be able to grab a flywheel and start one by hand because of the finesse involved, but a lot of engines need to rotate through a few cycles to get all the gas and oil where it’s supposed to be.
One of the tricky bits is the the drill starters usually have clutches so that the first power cycle of the engine doesn’t rip the drill out of your hand.

The comments seem to have stalled and may not be working, so I’ll tell a random story.
Once upon a time, I ran the operations of a small video telecom company in Silicon Valley. We specialized in fiberoptic gear that we would build to order for cable television systems.
I’d started by running the accounting, after their previous office manager developed a brain tumor (which ended up killing her). In one of the few times I met her, she assured me that everything was under control.
As it turns out, on my first day I determined that we had about $20,000 in cash and a payroll of $40,000 due in two weeks. A couple of days later, I finally managed to discover that we had about $1.2M in accounts payable and about $400,000 in accounts receivable. Everything was done “manually” (on computer spreadsheets) rather than on an accounting system…..despite the company owning a useful accounting system that had never been implemented.
Fortunately, we had substantial inventory and backorders. The inventory was stashed throughout the facility, including in the men’s room (I didn’t check the women’s room). Nobody knew what the backorders were, except when a customer was late for deliveries.
It was a busy, busy time for quite a while, but it ended-up getting right-sized and streamlined and fairly profitable. I got to do a lot of things that were theoretically above my pay grade, and most of them worked.
As one example, a lot of our business was using FM modulation on 1310-nm Fabry-Perot lasers. We could get these fairly cheaply ($500/ea) because they were suboptimal for their main use as AM lasers. This is because their emission spectrum was only nominally 1310-nm — there’d be lesser power spikes at 1305 and 1315-nm, and lesser at 1300 and 1320, and less than that at 1295 and 1325. That’d be no problem if you were just pushing the power up-and-down in the laser and receiving it in the receiver, but things got ugly when you ran it down a fiber.
Everyone talks about the speed of light in a vacuum, but the speed of light is different in other media — and the speed of light in a fiber depends on wavelength. Accordingly the 1295-nm light would arrive before the 1310-nm light, and the 1325-nm light would arrive after (or vice-versa, it’s been years…..).
This meant that your laser “SPUT!!!” wouldn’t show up at the receiver as “SPUT!!!”…..it would show up as “sput, Sput, SPUT, SPUT!, SPUT, Sput, sput”. There’s a name for this, which I forget, but it made FP lasers suck for precision AM use over fiber. OTOH, if you FM modulated a carrier, transmitted this over the fiber, then demodulated the FM, you could get a nice end-to-end spec — and we could box up those lasers in $500 more parts and sell them for $5,000.
Unfortunately, the FP lasers that were being chonked-out by the dozens weren’t designed for this, and we had found that some worked much better than others, so we cut a deal where we’d order a dozen lasers and try ’em out, and return the ones that didn’t work. Our products became very popular, so we kept ordering lasers by the dozen…..but somehow, our local rep never arranged the RMA numbers to send the unused ones back……
So, in a moment of glorious nepotism, I came up with a scheme. I ran it past the owner and he was on-board, so I implemented it.
It turns out that the Fiancee’s sister had just been laid-off. They were both raised in New York and had spent significant time in NYC, but I had the mellow one. Just to compare the mellow…..the sister had played rugby in college.
So we hired the sister to RMA (Return Material Authorization) all the unusable lasers in the facility — roughly half a million dollars worth. One time, when I was walking by her office, I overheard a snippet of what the local sales rep was getting. The calm lead-up was “why don’t we ship all these lasers back to your factory and work out the paperwork details while they are there?” The crescendo was “what do you mean, you don’t know where your own factory is?” Poor Dudley never knew what hit him.
And, yes, the Fiancee’s sister did manage to return every single one of those lasers in a very short amount of time.

I have many tales from my years at this company. I managed to dig out of the original mess using a very simple principle — whatever was closest to a door, shove it out. If we just received ten boxes of stuff that we wouldn’t need for two months, return it. If we produced a combiner for a system where we had yet to ship a laser or modulators, ship it anyway.
The backlog was there, the margins were there, the value in the product was there — this company could be a success.
Once things became a bit more solvent, we had other issues.
In order to make a PC board, we effectively had to send a set of blueprints over to our board fabricators. These were printed on ginormous sheets of special paper by pen-plotters. A single PC board might need six sheets, about three feet by four feet. And each sheet might take three hours to print. Before you printed each sheet, you had to load the paper and run it all-the-way back-and-forth to ensure it was precisely square, then take out each pen and check that it had sufficient ink. And there came a time that our better plotter died….
At the time, you could buy a low-budget but capable plotter for about $2,000. You could buy a piece-of-garbage bit of trouble that might produce some plots for about $1,600. You could get a workhorse HP plotter for $4,000 that was about 20% better at everything than the one that plotzed. I told the board layout folks to meet me in a conference room in three days with their ideas.
Mind you, I was known as a notorious skinflint and very tight with the money…..
So the appointed day comes, and we all sit down in the conference room, and the layout guys come in and pitch a $3,000 plotter. I poke at that one for a bit — new supplies, same speed as previous one, setup time, ease of use, cost….
And they fall back on, “we could get by with this $2,000 one….” I ask about the $1,600 one and they both agree that it’s just crap. So I whip out my manila folder and say, “well, I might have something different in mind…..” I could see them wince as I dealt a sheet of paper out of the folder face down.
Then I flip it over in front of them. A CalComp laser plotter. As far a step ahead as an HP LaserJet was to a dot-matrix printer. Prints a sheet off of a roll in about 15 minutes and cuts it free, then prints another sheet every 15 minutes until it runs out of paper or toner. Very new on the market. $25,000. No more checking the paper is parallel. No more checking the pens have ink. Six sheets for a PC board used to be two full days of plotting…..now they were going to be done in under two hours.
They were just amazed and eagerly accepted…..but now I could expect four times the productivity from that department. They felt loved and appreciated by the infamous hardass cthulhu…..but it was one of the best business investments I ever made.

Spend big money where it makes big differences in things you care about; squeeze expenses to the bone where nobody will care.

I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. This spring I saw honey bees swarm on one of my fence posts. About a month earlier we were doing a birthday party and the customer’s bees chose to swarm.
It made an interesting addition to the party.
I am really happy to see them since there was a disease taking a lot of the hives out.
we saw a hive split and form a new hive with a new queen while they were delivering the logs for our home. The guy who kept bee hives in the field next door told us they like to be near a water source. there’s a stream we have to cross to get to our place, so that was a natural place for the hives. he used to rent the bees out every spring to the local farmers.
back behind the house up in the woods, we can hear them buzzing and there’s water running all over the mountain most of the year. so they’re up there…probably in a hollowed out trunk somewhere.
We have a lot of standing dead wood. That fence post was not too far from a stream.

These problems have plagued the committee for decades. I can see some elderly people feeling vulnerable and frightened. I can see mothers being frightened for the safety of their children (fathers too). I can see those who are handicapped in some way or not physically able to do much feeling uneasy. I can also see shop owners feeling appalled and frightened as their doors and windows get broken and looters take everything they have.
Those are normal responses to violence. Also normal is anger and a kick-azz attitude. But people who are afraid are not all p@ssies. They’re just people who need help from those who are ready to kick azz. Some are so near to the bedlam that they are in real physical danger.

Not always, but generally, yes. The author of that piece, Kurt Schlichter, is both a man and a retired Army infantry colonel. He is also married with two children, and I think he is coming from a place of understanding the demographics that I listed: elderly, women, children, handicapped, etc.
I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t see it as the whole country being in a state of fear all the time. I see it as just a natural part of life. If people are attacking your city, even if you’re not in the middle of it, it seems natural to not necessarily be cowering in fear, but to have a heightened sense of awareness, to feel the need to be prepared, and to be concerned about the infirm and your loved ones. That is not the same as feeling like scared victims. And I think that’s all that Schlichter is talking about. I haven’t seen any other writings about people on our side being fearful, especially not with Trump in office.
Yes, they are out there, but they are by no means all women, and I don’t think they are dominating society. They just get the attention.
We have an administration of alpha males now that is having a positive effect on America. The fact that the Left is spending millions of dollars to try to understand young men and bring them back to the Dem Party tells me that there are a great many young men who aren’t buying the crap.
Recruitment in the armed services is off the charts. Men of younger generations are more conservative than ever, and being more masculine goes with that. Hollywood movies and TV productions that try to promote feminist “heroes” are failing. “Pride Month” is failing too. DEI, which is code for favoring minorities and women over white men, is being shown to be an utter failure. I think people are sick of all of that and want things to get back to normal. Even potential Dem presidential candidates are seeing this and are trying to be more “moderate.” They will have to battle it out with the crazies that you describe in their voting base. 😅

Customs and Border Protection officers conducted an inspection of Han, during which Han made false statements about the packages and the biological materials she had previously shipped to the United States. CBP officers also found that the content of Han’s electronic device had been deleted three days prior to her arrival in the United States. At the conclusion of the border inspection, Han was interviewed by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and ICE HSI. During this interview, Han admitted to sending the packages, admitted that the packages contained biological material related to round worms, and admitted to making false statements to the CBP officers during her inspection.

I still don’t understand how people could work with biological materials like that at any lab without someone knowing about it. I would think there would be strict protocols and documentaiton for exactly what was being worked on. I wish someone would explain how this could happen.

Here is my guess. The researcher sent “gifts” to other colleagues, friends, and people in the lab, while including hidden samples of the bad biologicals. It is VERY likely that she told some or all of the recipients about the inclusions, at a time when it would mean maximum payoff, which payoff could include self-perceived guilt of the recipient. Some of the recipients may have been loyal CCP, but others were being reeled in.
If this Han lady was like ChiCom female “probably spies” that I knew, then IMO she may have been sending this stuff not only to cooperative Chinese, but also to Westerners who needed to be compromised by guilt as unknowing recipients of the smuggled biologicals.
This is how they begin compromise, so that after the person keeps the secrets of the smuggled materials, they can be edged into more and more sketchy requests. At the same time, the recipients are probably being buttered up for the “Thousand Talents” program.

Academic laboratories are actually fairly loose and easy to subvert, or to evade reporting of experiments.
IMO these ChiCom researchers may be acting as mules for other people who are basically biological saboteurs – or some of the mules may themselves be (willingly or unwillingly) the saboteurs, since the CCP can order people to do things, and we have excellent descriptions by whistleblowers, of scientists who were ordered to release biological stuff at the dormitories of foreigners at the Wuhan games.
