Dear MAGA: Open Topic 20181212

This SPECIAL (D5 + 7) = (D13 – 1) WALL WEDNESDAY open thread is VERY OPEN – a place for everybody to post whatever they feel they would like to tell the White Hats, and the rest of the MAGA world.

Say what you want, comment on what other people said, comment on people’s comments.  Keep it civil.  Treehouse rules, but expect lots of QAnon.

No illegalities, please!  We do tolerate some “blowing off steam”, but please do so in ways that don’t sound threatening to NORMAL people like DEPLORABLES.  Snowflakes, however, may be somewhat melted. 😉

Today (Tuesday, December 12) is the eleventh day of Advent.

Or, as in “The Mouse That Roared”, the Q Bomb 🙂

The Q-Bomb as powerful as documented (in the specs) as opposed to reality (cf Dr. Kokintz dropping it on the floor in the Castle in Grand Fenwick)…

Hi, Marica!!

Yes, thank you, Marica–I wouldn’t have seen it if you hadn’t posted it. Here’s the threadreader version if any of you haven’t read it yet. Talks about Flynn. Very informative.

I was just thinking it seems like we can’t go a half a day any more without some kind of jaw dropping event or revelation occurring. No wonder I still don’t have my tree fully decorated.

From CBS Local, December 8:

‘A 22-year-old man was found dead inside Google’s New York City offices on Friday.
‘According to police, the body of Scott Krulcik was discovered on the sixth floor of tech giant’s building in Chelsea.
‘Krulcik did not have any reported signs of trauma and investigators told CBS2 that the death does not appear to be suspicious.
‘According to multiple reports, the 22-year-old was a Google employee and worked as a software engineer for the company.
‘The city’s medical examiner is working to determine how Krulcik died. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.’

Full conversation between PDJT, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer on the Wall:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-meeting-senate-minority-leader-chuck-schumer-house-speaker-designate-nancy-pelosi/
A must-read. You could not make this dialogue up.
Schumer says (paraphrased), ‘Let’s talk about it’.
Trump says, ‘We’re having this conversation.’
Much later, at the end:
‘THE PRESIDENT: I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country. So I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it. The last time you shut it down, it didn’t work. I will take the mantle of shutting down.
‘HOUSE SPEAKER-DESIGNATE PELOSI: That is (inaudible).
‘THE PRESIDENT: And I’m going to shut it down for border security.
‘SENATE MINORITY LEADER SCHUMER: But we believe you shouldn’t shut it down.
‘THE PRESIDENT: Okay. Thank you very much everybody. Thank you.
‘HOUSE SPEAKER-DESIGNATE PELOSI: (Inaudible) shut down the government.’

However, only five years ago, Dems voted for Trumpian immigration measures:
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/2013-all-senate-dems-voted-to-build-border-fence-kill-visa-lottery-end-chain-migration
‘All Senate Democrats united with two independent senators in 2013 to push through a comprehensive immigration reform plan to build a border fence and end “chain migration” and the visa lottery, positions they now oppose because they are in President Trump’s immigration package.
‘Led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, 52 Democrats and two independents OK’d the legislation.
‘It called for “no fewer than 700 miles” of border fencing.
‘It also included a section detailing the end of the diversity visa, a lottery for green cards meant to diversify the U.S. immigrant population.’

Pat Frederick

thanks for posting the transcript! i watched the video but with everybody speaking over everybody else it was hard to hear everyone’s words….
Chuck and Nanc really want to “negotiate” in private so they can claim to be doing it in the best interests of the country, but when it is in the open, we can all see they are buffoons–one tent short of a circus! lol

churchmouse

You’re most welcome.
Things always go quicker with a transcript.
Agree with you on Chuck and Nance.

GA/FL

Transcript reads like a play…..

churchmouse

It really does!
Despite the absurdity, Matt Lewis at the Daily Beast thought the President won handsomely:
https://www.thedailybeast.com/everybodys-wrong-donald-trump-won-the-chuck-n-nancy-meeting-and-heres-why
‘Here, we have a president displaying not only that he isn’t afraid of a shutdown battle with Democrats, but also that he welcomes it. “I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it,” he said …
‘It’s impossible to know how this will play out, but I score the opening round in Trump’s favor. Before the mid-terms, I argued that Trump might benefit from Democrats winning the House. This would provide him with a foil (see how he handled his Republican opponents and Hillary Clinton in 2016), and/or allow him to blame others for failing to deliver on his policy goals.
‘Based on Tuesday’s meeting, things seem to be running according to schedule.’

Pat Frederick

I watched the “body language” lady video—she was a hoot–describing Schumer’s posture (or lack thereof) and Pelosi’s sneer to the cameras once.
She did mention that she could tell that POTUS was trying to control himself a couple of times–after she pointed it out I could see her point. Chuckie was spieling about something and POTUS was tapping his fingers together and then, he let it fly–he was himself–then back to control again.
But she was really getting into Pence’s body language–I don’t want to be here, I don’t want to be here…OMG it’s gonna blow…she was funny…

churchmouse

Thanks for the report — much appreciated!

VSGPDJT knows a few things about “shutting down the government”:
It’s a shiny red ball meant to make the enemy look bad.
The deplorables out on the fruited plain know that.
We the People don’t care if the government is shut down. We would just like a little notice if visiting the Smithsonian is on the itinerary.
And…this is an easily neutralized arrow in the quiver by accepting the blame that the base, MAGA, does not have a problem happening.
Nancy, sweetheart, please do not try to play poker with this man.

A Fortiori (@AFortiori16)

Does anyone know whether the closure of federal courts removes a defense against military tribunals? I seem to recall that in times of emergency (but not in times of war), there is some authority for the proposition that military tribunal should not be used against US citizens if the courts are functioning. If so, a federal government shut down might have advantages above and beyond playing to the base.

Must read — D10 group out to stop Trump. From August 2, 2018 (excerpts follow, emphases mine):
https://www.economist.com/international/2018/08/02/countries-team-up-to-save-the-liberal-order-from-donald-trump
‘FOR the past four years senior officials from a group of leading democracies, calling themselves the “D10”, have quietly been meeting once or twice a year to discuss how to co-ordinate strategies to advance the liberal world order. Foreign ministry policy-planners and a few think-tank types would discuss responses to Russia, China, North Korea, Iran—but largely below the radar, so as not to be seen as a cabal of the “old West”. The idea has been to enhance co-operation among “a small number of strategically like-minded and highly capable states”, as Ash Jain, a former member of the State Department’s policy-planning staff, put it in a working paper in 2013.
‘But, at their next meeting, in Seoul in September, the D10 (America, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan, Australia and South Korea, plus the European Union) will have a new agenda item: America’s global role. Whereas the main threat to the rules-based order used to come from outside the leading democracies, some now fear it comes from within.
‘President Donald Trump’s hostilities on trade, his attacks on the policies of NATO allies and ditching of international agreements, such as the Paris climate accord and the Iran nuclear deal, have led even some of America’s closest partners to conclude that he wants to wreck the American-led world order forged after the second world war …
‘The D10 framework “takes on even greater meaning at this time of uncertainty surrounding America’s global role,” believes Mr Jain, who runs the D10 initiative at the Atlantic Council, an American think-tank, in partnership with a Canadian counterpart, the Centre for International Governance Innovation. The liberal order it stands for has always been an amorphous concept. Now that it is at risk, huddling together both to define and defend it becomes more urgent. The D10 group is part of a broader trend of intensifying efforts to rally the “like-minded” to that end. Mr Trump’s America First approach is prompting policymakers from Canberra to Ottawa to cast around for coalitions to limit the damage of his onslaughts and, eventually perhaps, fill gaps left by an American retreat from its global role
‘Canada has been the most energetic in pursuing this strategy …
‘ … a second approach to convening the like-minded—with a broader, international focus—is also being tried. Like a Davos for the once-powerful, this mission is attracting gaggles of global grandees, as ex-presidents, former prime ministers and retired diplomats lend their weight to the effort to save the world they used to run.
The D10 process has spawned a new, wider enterprise, called the Democratic Order Initiative, that seeks to engage the public behind support for the international rules-based system. Launched on June 23rd in Berlin by the Atlantic Council, with backing from Madeleine Albright (a former secretary of state), Stephen Hadley (a former American national-security adviser), Carl Bildt (a former prime minister and foreign minister of Sweden) and Yoriko Kawaguchi (a former Japanese foreign minister), it aims to articulate core principles of the rules-based order and mobilise public and official backing for them.
‘In the same vein, the Alliance of Democracies Foundation was set up last year to “strengthen the spines” of the world’s democracies. A brainchild of Anders Fogh Rasmussen, a former Danish prime minister and NATO secretary-general, it held an inaugural “Democracy Summit” in June and envisages annual winter gatherings in Colorado, as well as summer ones in Copenhagen. In the absence of clear ideological leadership from the White House, says Mr Rasmussen, the rest of the free world needs to advance and defend democracy.
The first initiative of the foundation’s global “campaign for democracy” is a Transatlantic Commission on Election Integrity, to bolster defences against outside interference. It is co-chaired by Mr Rasmussen and Michael Chertoff, a former secretary of homeland security in America; Joe Biden, America’s former vice-president, is among the other 13 commissioners. They have urgent work to do. Mr Rasmussen points out that 20 elections will be held across EU and NATO countries between now and the next American presidential contest in November 2020.
Characteristically, it is France’s “Jupiterian” president, Emmanuel Macron, who has the most ambitious project. His Paris Peace Forum, to be held on November 11th-13th, is envisaged as an annual event bringing together governments and civic groups to discuss the world’s problems. The idea is to show that “there is still a constituency for collective action, among states and civil society…beyond populism and interstate tensions.” …’

First Lady supports Toys for Tots:

From the Japan Times:

‘Melania Trump highlighted the spirit of giving Tuesday by sorting toys and making Christmas cards for an annual toy drive held by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
‘The first lady said she had been looking forward to the Toys for Tots event all year. The charity collects new toys and distributes them to needy children at Christmas.
‘“I have been looking forward to this event ever since last year’s ended,” Mrs. Trump said. “As a mother, I feel children are the most precious gift of all. They provide so much joy in life.” She added that her “mission” as first lady is to “shine a light” on programs that provide children with opportunities to succeed.
‘“I believe in the good work that Toys for Tots is doing,” the first lady said.
‘Dozens of children from military families joined her at a Washington-area military base to sort scores of toys, including dolls, cars, games, stuffed animals and other gifts into boxes labeled “Girls” and “Boys.” The job lasted a few minutes and then everyone sat down to make Christmas cards …’

Deplorable Patriot

Scientists may say one thing, but nutritionists will tell you that meat is a nutrient dense food that gives us micronurtients not found in plants. I can’t go too long without beef for two reasons: iron and I don’t particularly care for pork which is also loaded with hem iron. ALL women up to a certain age or stage/condition in life need this. And…I make a mean burger.
The honest truth is that if we took a lot of the grazing land that was cleared for crop production, and seed planted prarie grasses for cattle grazing and went back to that, a lot of health issues would be eased. Grass fed beef is loaded with niacin which is severely lacking in the modern diet.
But we’re not supposed to notice these things.

PeteC

On the other hand, I’ve lived without meat, fish, or fowl for 47 years and as fit as a fiddle (which is actual long time scientific proof in living color!). Of course I supplement with great bioavailable supplements. I’m NOT against meat, etc. at all, just saying!
Actually, original creation by Elohim was all vegetarian before the fall of man and nature in Genesis 3. Thus, this was original intent by God before Adam disobeyed God (sinned). There was not prey/predator in the animal kingdom prior to Gen. 3.

Deplorable Patriot

That’s fine for you, but it does not work for many of the rest of us.
And I would be really careful about interpreting the Bible that way since everything on earth was put at man’s disposal. Don’t forget, Christ talked about killing the fatted calf. It was a good thing.

PeteC

DP — you seem to be misconstruing what I’m saying! You can come to my abode and have a steak if you want! Doesn’t bother me in the least!
Furthermore, my biblical hermeneutics are quite sound, thank you. Unlike the Roman Church which has opted doctrinally towards the allegorical interpretation of Scripture (historically beginning with Origen and St. Augustine), I approach Scripture using the historical—grammatical interpretation, which was the method of the early Church till basically Augustine! It employs the “literal—sense” meaning of Scripture, the method we use when trying to understand most of what we read.
But thank you for your concern!

Deplorable Patriot

NOT getting into a historical religious argument when my faith is called “Roman.” No self respecting Catholic calls the Church that.
And as a liturgy nerd member of the choir, I know my Scripture better than most. Not just plants, but animals were put under the status of humans. The first week in Genesis makes that very clear.
Not concerned at all. Just commenting that what is good for some humans is deadly to the rest of us.

PeteC

DP—did not mean to offend calling your church Roman! However, since I have written numerous doctrinal dissertations over the years, and since not all followers of “the Way” (cf. Acts 19:23) are Catholic (which means “universal”), it has been preferable to refer to the Roman Catholic Church in that manner since the doctrines (teachings) also have purpose for Protestants!

Flynn news — sentencing memo released on December 11 (excerpt follows, emphases mine):
https://twitter.com/jasoncantrall/status/1072723880182276096
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/memo-fbi-recommended-michael-flynn-not-have-lawyer-present-during-interview-did-not-warn-of-false-statement-consequences
Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who arranged the bureau’s interview with then-national security adviser Michael Flynn at the White House on Jan. 24, 2017 — the interview that ultimately led to Flynn’s guilty plea on one count of making false statements — suggested Flynn not have a lawyer present at the session, according to newly-filed court documents. In addition, FBI officials, along with the two agents who interviewed Flynn, decided specifically not to warn him that there would be penalties for making false statements because the agents wanted to ensure that Flynn was “relaxed” during the session.
The new information, drawn from McCabe’s account of events plus the FBI agents’ writeup of the interview — the so-called 302 report — is contained in a sentencing memo filed Tuesday by Flynn’s defense team.
Citing McCabe’s account, the sentencing memo says that shortly after noon on Jan. 24 — the fourth day of the new Trump administration — McCabe called Flynn on a secure phone in Flynn’s West Wing office. The two men discussed business briefly and then McCabe said that he “felt that we needed to have two of our agents sit down” with Flynn to discuss Flynn’s talks with Russian officials during the presidential transition.
McCabe, by his own account, urged Flynn to talk to the agents alone, without a lawyer present. “I explained that I thought the quickest way to get this done was to have a conversation between [Flynn] and the agents only,” McCabe wrote. “I further stated that if LTG Flynn wished to include anyone else in the meeting, like the White House counsel for instance, that I would need to involve the Department of Justice. [Flynn] stated that this would not be necessary and agreed to meet with the agents without any additional participants.”
Within two hours, the agents were in Flynn’s office. According to the 302 report quoted in the Flynn sentencing document, the agents said Flynn was “relaxed and jocular” and offered the agents “a little tour” of his part of the White House.
The agents did not provide Gen. Flynn with a warning of the penalties for making a false statement under 18 U.S.C. 1001 before, during, or after the interview,” the Flynn memo says. According to the 302, before the interview, McCabe and other FBI officials “decided the agents would not warn Flynn that it was a crime to lie during an FBI interview because they wanted Flynn to be relaxed, and they were concerned that giving the warnings might adversely affect the rapport.”

NO, nor have I. This will not end well for Nate Cain, either, I fear (however much I want him to get the praise he deserves).

Deplorable Patriot

The biggest reason they pay a price is because all the snitching was done behind closed doors. This is done for a number of reasons including fear of reprisal and losing everything if sued for violating the terms of employment. The ones who survive have gone public and have nothing, really, to lose. The others aren’t noticed when they disappear.

Republican Recusants. Anybody know that term? It’s from the President Johnson impeachment trial.
https://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/common/briefing/Senate_Impeachment_Role.htm
I bet their enemies called them a lot worse than deplorable. We could start calling ourselves Recusants and the enemy would first be baffled, then tempted into telling us why we were wrong, thus forcing a public discussion of both the constitution AND The Federalist Papers.
Pure Trumpian, if you ask me.

Kav votes with Roberts against defunding Planned Parenthood state-by-state (Dec. 10):
https://www.wnd.com/2018/12/kavanaugh-sides-with-liberals-in-planned-parenthood-case/
‘Newly seated Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh joined Chief Justice John Roberts and the court’s progressive wing on Monday in declining to review three cases centered on Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood at the state level.
‘In dissent, Justice Clarence Thomas accused the majority of “abdicating” its duty for political reasons …
‘Associate Justices Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch joined the Thomas dissent …’
Joseph Farah is furious:
https://www.wnd.com/2018/12/the-kavanaugh-betrayal/#4L6K9ImsEQoWagaP.99
‘Now we know, for certain, that Brett Kavanaugh is a fraud. He should never have been President Trump’s first choice. He’s a weakling. He buckled to the extreme left to salvage his own reputation. I had a bad feeling about this guy – ever since his role in the Vincent Foster cover-up and his tutelage by former independent counsel Kenneth Starr.
‘How many times do we have to see this kind of betrayal by Republican nominees of Supreme Court justices – Sandra Day O’Connor, Anthony Kennedy, David Souter, John Roberts? …’

wheatietoo

Arrgh…I was afraid of this happening with Kavanaugh.
Roberts has a buddy now, to join him in screwing us over.

churchmouse

IKR??

Sylvia Avery

I’m unhappy about this as well. I agree with Justice Thomas.
But as for Joseph Farah…we just barely got Kavanaugh over the line. Think how much fun it would have been to try to get a conservative confirmed. We’d be sitting there, still, in the Senate just like when I was a kid and wouldn’t eat my peas and I couldn’t leave the dinner table so hours later there I was resolutely not eating my peas but not getting to leave, either.
Definitely unhappy. I just don’t see that it would have done any good to put forth an Amy Coney Barrett or something. They might not have accused her of sexual improprieties, but then again maybe they would have dredged up a “Judge Amy raped me” story or two that would have been just as believable. I put nothing past these people.
I hope that two or three more of the justices step down or leave the bench so that PDJT can get us some good ones.

churchmouse

Me, too.
This has been such a long haul (2009 — present). Ugh.

Deplorable Patriot

I have to part ways with the conservative mob on this one. This was not about abortion. It was about getting the states to pay for services rendered covered under state medicaid laws. Yes, PP is the nation’s largest baby killing machine, but they provide other “well-woman” services and those are the ones they were seeking payment for as I understand it.
Granular is a concept that needs to be applied here. The details do not match the headlines. “Defund Planned Parenthood” is far more complex than just not cutting checks. Medicaid issues need to be addressed at the state level, and when it comes to that, each facility is a separate 501c3 that pays membership to the parent in New York.
These are details that need to be understood and considered before condemning supreme court justices who have more access to records than the rest of us do.

Deplorable Patriot

This is one that really does not need SC attention. Sorry, but the states need to settle accounts and then do their own legislative thing that the SC could then address.

NebraskaFilly

Thanks – I was just going to post my belief that there were some misconceptions as well.

Deplorable Patriot

I followed this closely when Cecile Richards was sent to Congress for combat. There’s a lot that is being missed.

churchmouse

‘… they provide other “well-woman” services and those are the ones they were seeking payment for as I understand it.’
I am much less sure about that. Debunked this year. Their bread and butter is abortion — regardless of what they themselves might say.

Deplorable Patriot

Mammograms were debunked. Pap smears were not. Neither was treatment for yeast infections and other things. PP does actually provide these and other well woman services.
Abortion might be the most expensive service they offer, but it is not the only. And if the states do not want to contract with the organization, fine, but pay for what has already been accrued. It’s only honest.

churchmouse

You’re more convinced than I am.

Deplorable Patriot

I know people who have actually been served in this way. On top of it, that was always what was skipped over in DEFUND PP. There were state contracts for medicaid.

GA/FL

So – we have another progressive anti-life Catholic – shades of Nancy Pelosi!

Deplorable Patriot

No we have someone who understands that payments for services rendered need to be made. That’s what this is about. Abortion is a separate topic.

TheseTruths

Thank you for your informative, reasonable posts. It is a much more complex issue than “Kav voted against conservative values.” I have faith that Kavanaugh will be a great asset to us on SCOTUS.

churchmouse

Gag.
Traditional Presbyterians (i.e. not PCUSA) are more pro-life by a country mile.

GA/FL

True – I attend a PCA and we/they are very pro-life – sponsoring several crisis pregnancy centers.

churchmouse

There you go.
Lucky you, attending a PCA church. What a blessing!

GA/FL

Evil….
“Kentucky has a death penalty,” he said. “Someone like that, who abuses a child, I believe, gives up their rights as a human being — to do what he did to that baby. I believe once you give up those rights as a human being, the death penalty is a just punishment.”
Because of Armes prior rape conviction, he now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years imprisonment for his latest crime, a fine of $2,000,000, and supervised release of not less than 5 years and not more than life.”
That’s not enough – I agree with the sheriff.

Coulter is either wrong or lying!!! – THE WALL HAS BEEN UNDER CONSTRUCTION SINCE 2017 – Army Corps of Engineering site planning on to 30 foot wall being built in California….and more wall construction elsewhere.

Sylvia Avery

We had the local NBC affiliate on (FAKE NEWS) last night and they said with complete authority that PDJT “misrepresented facts” when he said parts of the wall had been built and that he hadn’t even received funding to build prototypes.
I almost went blind with rage.
Whole lot of lying going on. And you know what, it isn’t my President who is lying. He might exaggerate. He doesn’t lie. Besides, we’ve seen the wall construction.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

But as far as I know, none of the builds have been his 30′ plans.
Don’t get me wrong, what has happened has been very good–and besides the true plan was for a short wall, backed by a 150′ enforcement zone, backed by the BIG wall. So everything that has been done can be part of the big plan. It’s just that. to my knowledge, no 30′ wall has been built.

Pat Frederick

apparently there is a “fund the wall” site that is waiting for instructions on how to get that money to the government—if they can accomplish that, and POTUS tweets it–I bet tons of people would donate to get the wall built…

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

I don’t think they can, without congress authorizing the money be spent on the wall. They not only allocate money (which they haven’t done), they also direct how the government spends money (which they haven’t done).

Johnny

We should give the money to the ranchers that own the land along border. Let them build it.

I really dislike that Gingrich guy. He ripped off many, many MAGA people and he keeps going like nothing happened. He’s a liar and a crook.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

OK, I could have seen either answer, but I must have missed where Newt’s name came up in the discussion. Cernovich was all over it. So I thought, maybe this was a typo.

Reminds me of our President somehow – those sharp claws and beak, that hawk’s eye….so alert and aware.

GA/FL

…the broad shoulders, the strong wings, feathers all perfectly groomed…..The Red Tail Hawk is a real Trumpian bird.

wheatietoo

It looks great as your Avatar, GA/FL.
Beautiful creature, the Red Tailed Hawk…I see them fairly often, hunting in the woods behind our house.
Raptors are awesome.

GA/FL

Red tail hawks are special to me.
A red tail hawk once swooped at a stranger approaching me in a remote location.
Often when I’m traveling alone, I’ll see them along the road, perched like sentinels in the tops of trees.

Pat Frederick

that’s cool!

Pat Frederick

they are beautiful, but we had a pair here that were the worst hunters–I nicknamed them George and Gracie (after Burns and Allen) cuz they had me in stitches…we have snakes, mice, voles, chipmunks and all sorts of other small varmints (salamanders etc) around here but these too couldn’t catch any! and by our pond (which is inundated with frogs), they couldn’t catch a frog or a fish…but not for trying…they ended up wet and mad a lot!
one tried to land on our green metal roof –we have a log home–so I guess it kinda looked like a large tree?). I still cringe with the sound of its claws going down the metal until it landed with a light thud on the deck–unharmed but stunned…

GA/FL

Shudder – I can hear that sound just from your description.
Maybe they were entertaining you… playing the fool to get your attention.
Surely they had to eat to be able to carry on.

Pat Frederick

mostly they caught and ate what I call blood worms–really large blood red worms…
It was great to see them–they would sit on on garden fence and call to each other–it was lovely.
Then one of them hit the front wall of our home–it’s all glass–the mark is still on the window–you can see the outline! the hawk fell to the deck–again just stunned but sat there for about 30 minutes looking up at the place where it hit. (we have a roof over that part of the deck, but still sometimes it reflects the sky and the window looks blue)
They have never been back since—and they used to hunt along our long driveway all day long.

GA/FL

Wow – what a story.

Pat Frederick

it’s sad, but I have so many amazing close up photos…

GA/FL

Looks like he’s saying….”You don’t think I’ll shut down the blanking government ….and have the military build the Wall….just try me.”

Except that the GDP rate has slowed. Likely going to come in at 2.5%. My guess is that savings from lower gas prices is generating more consumer spending which in turn triggers more imports from China. Until we wean ourselves off the cheap Chinese imports, this pattern will continue. Also when these new manufacturing jobs start to fully kick in, that will also affect GDP.
October was especially bad for our trade balance. I think we hit a 20 year high in the trade deficit.

daughnworks247

Also, China not buying soybeans creates an anomaly.

I know a lot of pet projects and fubdingvfor illegals should pay for this. I think it wont happen that way. Pray for usbin CA. Gavin Newsom takes over with an exceptional supermajority of state seats in just a couple weeks.
“State and federal authorities estimated Tuesday that it will cost at least $3 billion to clear debris from 19,000 homes and businesses destroyed by three California wildfires last month.
The disaster relief officials said the cleanup costs will far surpass the record cleanup expense of $1.3 billion the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers spent on debris removal in Northern California in 2017.
California Office of Emergency Services Director Mark Ghilarducci said the state will manage cleanup contracts this time. Hundreds of Northern California homeowners complained contractors last year paid by the ton hauled away too much dirt and damaged unbroken driveways, sidewalks and pipes. The state OES spent millions of dollars repairing that damage.
Ghilarducci said the state OES will hire auditors and monitors to watch over the debris removal in hopes of cutting down on the number of over-eager contractors.
“We learned a great number of things,” last year, Ghilarducci said.
He said the U.S. Corps of Engineers was asked to lead the effort last year because state resources were stretched thin after responding to more than a dozen wildfires. This year, he said state officials can manage the cleanup and costs will be shared among state, federal and local authorities.
He said he expects the cleanup to begin in January and take about a year to complete. State and federal officials are currently removing hazardous household materials from the damaged properties.
Most of the work will occur in Northern California, where the state’s most destructive wildfire destroyed the city of Paradise.
The death toll from the Camp Fire stood at 86 on Tuesday, after the Butte County Sheriff’s office said that a Paradise man had died of his burn injuries in a hospital nearly three weeks after the Nov. 8 blaze. The number of people on the unaccounted-for list remains at 3.
Insurance companies estimate the industry will face at least $10 billion in claims from homeowners and businesses destroyed or damaged in the latest wildfires.
California Insurance Commissioner said the carriers received $11.8 billion in claims because of the 2017 wine country fires.
Jones has warned increasing risk from wildfires in California could prompt insurers to raise premiums or decline to sell policies entirely to homes in high-risk areas”

Love-Joy
As on a window late I cast mine eye,
I saw a vine drop grapes with J and C
Annealed on every bunch. One standing by
Asked what it meant. I (who am never loath

To be the body and the letters both
Of Joy and Charity . Sir, you have not missed,
The man replied; it figures JESUS CHRIST .

Speaking as a Scandal weary Catholic, if Cardinal Pell is guilty, his name should be plastered on the video board in Times Square even if Pell is an Australian. Plain and simple. If he is guilty of a crime, a real against God’s law crime which all the abuse is, he is not worthy of the collar.
It has been traced that the seminaries, and thus the priesthood now reaching to the highest levels, were infiltrated in 1924. A book was published in 1982 that traced it all. It is no longer in print, but the research does exist. And, no, good Catholics will NOT make excuses for this sort of behavior. Not even. Several of the most celebrated cardinals of the last 50 years were part of the ring. At this point, most of them are dead. The damage they did to the Church, though, remains. This just pisses me off no end (the work requirements for SNAP part) !!!! I can’t see McCarthy putting it back in…..altho, I am sure Jordan, Meadows, etc. will try.
“The Senate passed the updated 2018 Farm Bill on Tuesday, which legalized hemp and did away with implementing work requirements to receive food stamps through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The Senate voted 87-13 to pass the legislation, which lawmakers unveiled Monday evening after months of back-and-forth negotiations and debate over whether work requirements should be included in the 2018 Farm Bill. Every single Senate Democrat voted for the revised bill, and eight Republicans opposed it.
The bill, if it passes the House, would take the place of the Farm Bill which expired on September 30.”
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2018/12/11/senate-passes-2018-farm-bill-legalizing-hemp-ditching-snap-work-requirements/

Deplorable Patriot

My question on the work and volunteer requirement would be was is a blanket rule or were there exceptions for disabled, chronically ill, retired elderly. That’s a significant chunk of SNAP beneficiaries.
That part is always glossed over.

NebraskaFilly

The work requirements were ONLY for those who were physically able to work. Yes, there were exceptions.

NebraskaFilly

I know someone who is on full disability, yet works by repairing instruments, playing in bands, and doing Karaoke for pay. On the flip side is my sister, who has 5 ft. of steel in her back and is on disability, yet also drives a school bus and hauls asphalt in the summer. Now this is SSI but the same occurs within the SNAP program – BIGLY! There are many people who are fully able to support themselves yet they are collecting many benefits, including SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, housing, and on and on and on.

Deplorable Patriot

While that is true, there are still those who are in the latter stages of Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, and other diseases that prevent them from doing any of that. And then there are the elderly who saved, but didn’t count for inflation, etc. Those are the sorts of people I worry about.
And I do know someone who is on disability that I question.

NebraskaFilly

Those sorts of people have nothing to worry about in this case. So we should allow all this fraud just because a few who legitimately deserve the assistance may have to jump through another hoop? Doesn’t make sense.

Deplorable Patriot

No, but I wasn’t in the backroom when the deal was made. There had to be a trade off somewhere.

I forgot one of my favorite parts of the transcript of the meeting yesterday with Pelosi and Schmuckie:
HOUSE SPEAKER-DESIGNATE PELOSI: Unfortunately, this has spiraled downward from — we came at a place to say, “How do we meet the needs of American people who have needs?” The economy has — people are losing their jobs. The market is in a mood. Our members are already (inaudible).
THE PRESIDENT: Well, we have the lowest unemployment that we’ve had in 50 years.
HOUSE SPEAKER-DESIGNATE PELOSI: Sixty people of the Republican Party have lost — are losing their offices now because of the transition. People are not — the morale is not —
Pelosi is concerned over 60 people losing their jobs because Repubs did not win in their elections—but doesn’t that mean 60 others would be employed by the Dems who did win? kind of a wash imo…But that’s what fueling her claim that “People are losing their jobs…” the verbal gymnastics are frightening…let alone the math skills…lol

Staying positive in a team environment (Trump Team>Q>Tree>us) so that when others start to come around and ask questions we are ready with some answers, happy, confident and looking for a brighter future…negativity not allowed!

Argh. CA just cant help themselves. Now the govt wants to tax us or just charge us to be able to text in order the give free mobile service “to the poor”. The poor gave so many benefits they have a better newer phone, car, school, home loan than I do.
“California regulators are considering a plan to charge a fee for text messaging on mobile phones to help support programs that make phone service accessible to the poor, according to a newspaper report Wednesday.
The proposal is scheduled for a vote next month by the state Public Utilities Commission, the Mercury News reported.
The wireless industry and business groups have been working to defeat the plan.
“It’s a dumb idea,” said Jim Wunderman, president of the Bay Area Council business-sponsored advocacy group. “This is how conversations take place in this day and age, and it’s almost like saying there should be a tax on the conversations we have.”
It’s unclear how much money individual consumers would be asked to pay their wireless carrier for texting services under the proposal, the newspaper said. But it is likely would be billed as a flat surcharge — not a fee per text.
Wunderman said he’s unaware of any other local, state or federal program that taxes texting. And the wireless industry has argued the state commission lacks legal grounds for doing so.
Business groups calculated the new charges for wireless consumers could total about $44.5 million a year. They said that under the regulators’ proposal the charge could be applied retroactively for five years — and could amount to a bill of more than $220 million for California consumers.
A CPUC report proposing the texting surcharge says the Public Purpose Program budget has climbed from $670 million in 2011 to $998 million last year. But the telecommunications industry revenues that fund the program fell from $16.5 billion in 2011 to $11.3 billion in 2017, it said.
“This is unsustainable over time,” the report says, arguing that adding surcharges on text messaging will increase the revenue base that funds programs that help low-income Californians afford phone service.
“From a consumer’s point of view, surcharges may be a wash, because if more surcharge revenues come from texting services, less would be needed from voice services,” CPUC spokeswoman Constance Gordon said in a statement.”
