Please review our HOST and site owner’s Guidelines for posting and discussion for this site. Wolf is kind enough to put up with *most* of us and our antics after thorough vetting. Violators of the baiting and deliberately attempting to divide the group rules WILL face consequences.
The discourse on this site is to be CIVIL – no name calling, baiting, or threatening others here is allowed. Company manners are appreciated. Those who are so inclined may visit Wolf’s other sanctuary, the U-Tree, to slog out discussions best saved for a wrestling mat. If, for some reason, this site is not available, head over to the UTree and visit the post at the top of the list or the closest rescue thread.

THAT MEANS THAT ALL OF US HERE ARE ENTITLED TO OUR OPINIONS AND PREJUDICES, ETC., SO LONG AS THEY CAUSE NO PHYSICAL HARM TO OTHERS OR DOXX OUR FELLOW TREE DWELLERS.

Be careful in expressing thoughts as we would all like to think well of the rest of the group, and ill-thought out comments have a way of wrecking that for everyone.

5Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his arm, whose heart turns away from the LORD. 6He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. 7“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. 8He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” 9The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately corrupt; who can understand it? 10“I the LORD search the mind and try the heart, to give to every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”

A grammatical plea to think “Led Zeppelin” and not “Leadville” when using the past tense of the verb “to lead”
Please don’t think of me as a grammar Nazi. Think of me as a friend of the Periodic Table, who is tired of seeing an intermittently innocent heavy metal being thoughtlessly ABUSED by my fellow members of the Truth Community.
Surely, the element LEAD is bad, just like arsenic and fluorine. But Lead is a cultured killer. Please give him some credit, for being civilized since the earliest days of civilization. Lead may be a predator on women and children, but he’s a very civilized butler who probably did it.
Lead, however, is not a HOOLIGAN who uses incorrect English.
In contrast to the element, I call your attention to the past tense of “to lead”, where “leading” means a variety of things with which you are familiar.
Unlike the verb “to read”, where “read” (pronounced like “reed”) is the present tense, and “read” (pronounced like “red”) is the past tense, the verb “to lead” gives rise to “lead” which is pronounced like “leed”) in the present tense, and “led” (pronounced like the element lead, Pb) in the past tense.
Thankfully, this mistake is rarely made by the posters on our site. It is, however, quite common in blog posts, comments, and articles which are brought in from the internet.
I hope to keep things that way. My purpose is to warn you away from such foolishness. Even the deadly “should of” (it’s “should’ve”, a contraction of “should have”) is quaintly excusable as emergent new English, in my horribly radical linguistic opinion.
But the element LEAD as a past tense? HORRIFYING.
Please don’t equate the mere historical mass murderer LEAD with genocidal maniacs like FAUCI, TEDROS, and WALENSKY, who surely misconjugate the verb “to lead”, among their various other crimes.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Your efforts to avoid Fauci-level linguistic crimes will be rewarded by not seeing the above picture, which I intend to post whenever I see “lead” used in a past tense where “led” is appropriate. Even if merely being quoted from the internet.
Your humble grammar Nazi defender of a fellow heavy metal,

17And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, 18“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, 19and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.” 20Then the mother of the sons of Zeb’edee came up to him, with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. 21And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.” 22But Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” 23He said to them, “You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” 24And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. 25But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. 26It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; 28even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

It is quite clear, as per Wolf’s message from July, that we are under spiritual attack. Building up a robust arsenal of prayer and discipline is a must in fighting the enemy and his minions.
In that spirit, the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel from Tuesday’s threads, and the Breastplate of St. Patrick, not to mention the Litany of Humility are favorites recommended by exorcists in spiritual warfare.
There were a number of big news stories on Monday, and many different takes on the meanings. All or none of the takes presented could be correct or in error. It’s up to the readers to discern. None of what is presented could be correct. We just have to wait and see.
In a world increasingly dominated by sensationalism and misinformation, conspiracy theories have found fertile ground to flourish. Dismissed by many as the ramblings of a paranoid few, these theories have long been relegated to the fringes of society. But the experts now warn that they are witnessing the emergence of a new threat vector: conspiracy theorists being proven right.

1Then said Jesus to the crowds and to his disciples, 2“The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; 3so practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach, but do not practice. 4They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger. 5They do all their deeds to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, 6and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, 7and salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi by men. 8But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren. 9And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ. 11He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; 12whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

THE STUFF
More on the Gab AI
I asked Gabby to do a self-portait in the outdoors, using the Watercolor interface. This is the first time Gabby chose a man – and a white man at that. Gabby consistently chose a dark black African woman in the past.
I have been studying the Watercolor engine to test its capabilities, biases, strengths and weaknesses. I will explore the results in upcoming posts.
One thing I have noticed is that Gab’s new interface tends to make each “conversation” with an engine tend to “fall into a rut”, which can be good or bad, depending on your needs. It’s good, in that it remembers what you just asked it to do. It’s bad, in that if you want bigger changes, you probably need to start a new chat. But in general, having options both ways is nice.
This tree, the prior two, and the next one were all done with the same conversation. They were all very similar, even with radically different instructions, some of which were trying to get the engine to do a “Wheatie Warrior” watercolor. I had to start completely new chats to make even some progress that way.
This Rejoice & Praise God Sunday Open Thread, with full respect to those who worship God on the Sabbath, is a place to reaffirm our worship of our Creator, our Father, our King Eternal.

In the QTree, we’re a friendly and civil lot. We encourage free speech and the open exchange and civil discussion of different ideas. Topics aren’t constrained, and sound logic is highly encouraged, all built on a solid foundation of truth and established facts.
We have a policy of mutual respect, shown by civility. Civility encourages discussions, promotes objectivity and rational thought in discourse, and camaraderie in the participants – characteristics we strive toward in our Q Tree community.
Please show respect and consideration for our fellow QTreepers. Before hitting the “post” button, please proofread your post and make sure your opinion addresses the issue only, and does not confront or denigrate the poster. In The Q Tree, we’re compatriots, sitting around the campfire, roasting hot dogs, making s’mores, and discussing, agreeing, and disagreeing about whatever interests us. This board will remain a home for those who seek respectful conversations.
God is in Control . . . and His Grace is Sufficient, so . . . Keep Looking Up
Hopefully, every Sunday, we can find something here that will build us up a little . . . give us a smile . . . and add some joy or peace, very much needed in all our lives.
“This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn nor weep.” . . . “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Running the Race
Accomplished people will tell us that goal-setting is essential to achieving success in any worthy endeavor. Perhaps no other ambition is more important in the Christian life than the one the apostle Paul preached about in Philippians 3:13–14: “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
What goal was Paul targeting? Like an Olympic athlete, Paul exerted absolute determination to cross the finish line of Christian maturity. For the remainder of his life on earth, Paul was resolutely committed to the passionate pursuit of this singular ambition. He explained to the Philippians that he had not arrived at his destination yet, “but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me” (Philippians 3:12).
Take hold means “to win, acquire, possess, or make one’s own.” On the road to Damascus, Paul had been seized by the powerful, unbreakable grasp of the risen Christ (Acts 9:1–19). His life now belonged wholly to Jesus. Acts 9:15 reveals that Paul was God’s chosen instrument to proclaim salvation to the Gentiles and the people of Israel. But this was not the goal Paul pressed toward. Instead, Paul explained, “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead” (Philippians 3:10–11).
The goal Paul pressed toward was twofold: to know Jesus Christ and to become like Him.
Jesus had saved Paul and made him His very own possession to bring him into an intimate and eternal relationship—one that would grow and increase throughout Paul’s earthly life and culminate in “perfection” or “perfect knowledge” at his death (Philippians 3:12, NLT). Crossing the goal line does not happen on earth. While we press toward Christian maturity in this life, “we see only a reflection as in a mirror,” but when we reach the final destination at death, “we shall see face to face” and know Christ fully even as we are fully known (1 Corinthians 13:12).
The word press in Philippians 3:14 means “to carry out or participate in an activity, to pursue or follow.” Believers are to actively press forward in our knowledge of the Lord and in our fellowship with Him until we finally hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant. . . . Enter into the joy of your master” (Matthew 25:23, ESV).
Jesus said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24, NLT). Giving up our own way, taking up our cross, and following Jesus are the activities of a Christian who is pressing toward the goal of becoming more like Christ. That is why Paul said, “For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better” (Philippians 1:21, NLT).
The apostle John described the action like this: “We are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure” (1 John 3:2–3, NLT). We keep ourselves pure by imitating Christ in right living (1 Corinthians 11:1; Romans 13:12–14).
James taught that pressing toward the goal of Christian maturity requires determined endurance to stay the course through the trials of life: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:2–4).
The Christian growth cycle is ongoing, with a snowball-like effect of building from one success to the next. As we persevere and grow through hardship, we are strengthened and prepared for even greater challenges of faith down the road. We are continually pressing upward into greater maturity as we move toward our goal—our full potential of complete and “perfect maturity” in Jesus Christ.
The English Standard Version describes the goal we press toward as “the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14, ESV). When Jesus took hold of us, God called all of us upward toward His heavenly kingdom through an intimate relationship with His Son. The direction we press toward is “up” because that is where the call comes from—directly from God’s throne. He called us from heaven and will eventually bring us home to heaven (Philippians 3:20; 2 Corinthians 5:1; Hebrews 11:13–16). We press toward that goal by following the call that keeps us moving ever-increasingly onward and upward in Christlikeness and in our knowledge of Jesus our Lord. xhttps://www.gotquestions.org/press-on-toward-the-goal.html
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
The Lord . . . will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God. 1 Corinthians 4:5

Speaker Johnson Pinging you on January 6 Tapes
Just a friendly reminder Speaker Johnson. You’re doing some good things–or at least trying in the case of the budget–but this is the most important thing out there still hanging. One initial block released with the promise of more…and?
We have American patriots being held without bail and without trial, and the tapes almost certainly contain exculpatory evidence. (And if they don’t, and we’re all just yelling in an echo chamber over here, we need to know that too. And there’s only one way to know.)
Either we have a weaponized, corrupt government or we have a lot of internet charlatans. Let’s expose whatever it is. (I’m betting it’s the corrupt weaponized government, but if I am wrong, I’d like to see proof.)
A Political Statement
One of my stock jokes is to say, as I head off to the bathroom or washroom or restroom, “I’m going to go make a political statement.”
It certainly seems like urinating is a good way to make a statement about the YSM, and defecating works for politicians. Or the other way around is good too, though “#1” just never seems emphatic enough.
Maybe “#1” is just being polite, and “#2” is telling the fixtures what you really think.
Anyhow, I pretty much do plan to be polite to RINOs that electioneer or fundraise. I’ll tell them, Sorry, but I need to GO Pee…
Language Warning
In the next piece I had to discuss a particular topic. Unfortunately, I couldn’t discuss it without naming it. Therefore I apologize in advance for having to do so, and apologize to anyone offended by the sight of the name.
RINO McDaniel
RINO McDaniel continues to infest the GOP. But RINO McDaniel isn’t the problem.
Let me be crystal clear on this, RINO McDaniel is a lower-than-whale-shit, piss guzzling ratfucking shit eating traitorous rancid syphillitic cunt. Her worth as a human being is substantially less than zero, any oxygen sucked into her lungs is wasted, and it would be, no matter what job she had.
I fear I haven’t been clear enough, but that will have to suffice.
But she is not the problem…or rather, she would not be a problem were it not for others. She’d still be as I have described, but we wouldn’t know who she is and would not care, because she could do no damage. She’d just be anonymous human refuse.
No, the real problem is the fact that a majority of the 168 top GOP people voted for her. And now that has happened five times so they cannot claim they didn’t know what she was.
In spite of the fact that under her “leadership” the party has deliberately sabotaged the will of its base, has deliberately refused to challenge blatant election fraud, had gone out of its way to ensure certain candidates do not get nominated, has diverted donor money to namby-pamby candidates who have all the electoral appeal of a puddle of dog vomit…and in general has done nothing whatsoever to help fix the problems that plague America.
However that last is to be expected; I cannot expect anyone who IS the problem to help FIX the problem.
RINO McDaniel would be powerless without an entire party leadership of the same mind as her. They want this dismal performance; they want to ignore the party base.
If she were to drop dead this instant, it would solve nothing as someone just like her would be elected by those same pustulous people.
According to Charlie Kirk, about 55 people voted against her, 10-12 wanted something different but were too chickenshit to do the right thing, and roughly 100 people voted for her enthusiastically, and even had the unmitigated gall to complain to Kirk about US. Fuck ’em. Rusty 12 gauge bore brushes would be too good for these arrogant pricks and cunts.
Every single one of those hundred is just as bad as she is. In other words, they are all worse than I described at the beginning of this piece. And no doubt those people in turn have people who supported them to be state party chairs and whateveritis they call the other two people from each state and territory who were voting.
It’s time to face up to the fact that the Republican party is effectively owned by the shit-eating RINOs. We’ve got more work to do, a lot more work, to make the GOP an instrument for the restoration of the United States of America. And that’s in addition to cleaning up our elections.
There’s no point in cleaning up elections just to elect ratfucking RINOs.
OK, hopefully now you will have some inkling of my true attitude towards RINOs. Sorry that words were inadequate to give you the full picture.
The Real Fascist is His Fraudulency Joe Biden*
*Or whoever has his hand rammed up that meat puppet’s ass.
Brandon (which I will use as a term for whoever is the power behind the Porcelain Throne) has thrown down the gauntlet…but in a way where most of America will never see it. The networks didn’t carry his tirade. CNN air brushed it (or whatever you call editing the red background) for its five viewers (who aren’t trapped in airports).
Luckily for me I live in Colorado, and therefore, despite my best efforts, I probably didn’t vote for Donald Trump.
Of course, for this purpose who I actually did try to vote for will be essential, and they undoubtedly know.
The prior election must be acknowledged as fraudulent, and steps must be taken to prosecute the fraudsters and restore integrity to the system.
Nothing else matters at this point. Talking about trying again in 2022 or 2024 is hopeless otherwise. Which is not to say one must never talk about this, but rather that one must account for this in ones planning; if fixing the fraud is not part of the plan, you have no plan.
Small Government?
Many times conservatives (real and fake) speak of “small government” being the goal.
This sounds good, and mostly is good, but it misses the essential point. The important thing here isn’t the size, but rather the purpose, of government. We could have a cheap, small tyranny. After all our government spends most of its revenue on payments to individuals and foreign aid, neither of which is part of the tyrannical apparatus trying to keep us locked down and censored. What parts of the government would be necessary for a tyranny? It’d be a lot smaller than what we have now. We could shrink the government and nevertheless find it more tyrannical than it is today.
No, what we want is a limited government, limited not in size, but rather in scope. Limited, that is, in what it’s allowed to do. Under current circumstances, such a government would also be much smaller, but that’s a side effect. If we were in a World War II sort of war, an existential fight against nasty dictatorships on the brink of world conquest, that would be very expensive and would require a gargantuan government, but that would be what the government should be doing. That would be a large, but still limited government, since it’d be working to protect our rights.
World War II would have been the wrong time to squawk about “small government,” but it wasn’t (and never is) a bad time to demand limited government. Today would be a better time to ask for a small government–at least the job it should be doing is small today–but it misses the essential point; we want government to not do certain things. Many of those things we don’t want it doing are expensive but many of them are quite eminently doable by a smaller government than the one we have today. Small, but still exceeding proper limits.
So be careful what you ask for. You might get it and find you asked for the wrong thing.
Political Science In Summation
It’s really just a matter of people who can’t be happy unless they control others…versus those who want to be left alone. The oldest conflict within mankind. Government is necessary, but government attracts the assholes (a highly technical term for the control freaks).
A Few Things We Cannot Blame on His Fraudulency
I am pretty sure Joe Biden had nothing whatsoever to do with the 30 Years War that ran from 1618-1648 and probably killed about a third of the people then living in what is now Germany.
Nor did he cause the collapse of either Roman empire (Western, 476 CE, Eastern 1453 CE). Nor the ignominious failure of most of the Crusades. Nor the collapse of Bronze Age civilization around 1200 BCE (including the collapse of the Minoans and the blowup of Santorini).
However, my utter lack of ability to imagine how he could possibly be responsible for these things is not a valid argument against them, so I await correction if appropriate.
His Truth?
Again we saw an instance of “It might be true for Billy, but it’s not true for Bob” logic this week.
I hear this often, and it’s usually harmless. As when it’s describing differing circumstances, not different facts. “Housing is unaffordable” can be true for one person, but not for another who makes ten times as much.
But sometimes the speaker means it literally. Something like 2+2=4 is asserted to be true for Billy but not for Bob. (And when it’s literal, it’s usually Bob saying it.) And in that sense, it’s nonsense, dangerous nonsense. There is ONE reality, and it exists independent of our desires and our perceptions. It would go on existing if we weren’t here. We exist in it. It does not exist in our heads. It’s not a personal construct, and it isn’t a social construct. If there were no society, reality would continue to be what it is, it wouldn’t vanish…which it would have to do, if it were a social construct.
Now what can change from person to person is the perception of reality. We see that all the time. And people will, of course, act on those perceptions. They will vote for Trump (or try to) if their perception is close to mine, and vote against Trump (and certainly succeed at doing so) if their perception is distant from mine (and therefore, if I do say so, wrong). I have heard people say “perception is reality” and usually, that’s what they’re trying to say–your perception of reality is, as far as you know, an accurate representation of reality, or you’d change it.
But I really wish they’d say it differently. And sometimes, to get back to Billy and Bob, the person who says they have different truths is really saying they have different perceptions of reality–different worldviews. I can’t argue with the latter. But I sure wish they’d say it better. That way I’d know that someone who blabbers about two different truths is delusional and not worth my time, at least not until he passes kindergarten-level metaphysics on his umpteenth attempt.

Mercury
Uh, no. I meant:
That looks an awful lot like the Moon, doesn’t it?
Well, it’s not. This is a photograph of Mercury, taken by the MESSENGER probe in 2008. (Apparently the message to be delivered had to be shouted; the probe’s name is spelled in ALL CAPS.)
Mercury is covered in craters, indicating it’s had a long, violent past with lots of meteor impacts. So has every other body in the solar system, but in the case of larger planets, various things erase the old craters (in our case, erosion and plate tectonics–none of our ocean floors, for instance, are more than 300 million years old). We see signs here of the “late heavy bombardment” four billion years ago. So it’s going to be pretty desolate looking up close.
To us here on Earth Mercury appears as a white point of light low in the sky at sunset or sunrise, close to the Sun. This diagram comparing the geometry of Venus and Mercury’s orbits (as seen from here on Earth) shows many of the reasons why:
Not only is Mercury constrained to be close to the Sun because of its orbit, but if the plane of its orbit is tilted at an oblique angle to the horizon, it’s going to set that much sooner, so that even when Mercury is at “maximum elongation” (farthest from the sun as seen from Earth), you don’t have much time to look at it. Add to this the fact that you’re looking sideways through Earth’s atmosphere, which is going to be very turbulent right after sunset…and it’s hard to see anything worthwhile from Earth based observatories. Those “maximum elongations” occur on average every 115.8 days. Mercury orbits the Sun in 88 days, but Earth is moving too and so it takes another 28 days or so for Mercury to “lap” the Earth. That same interval must elapse between elongations (where Mercury is about a quarter lap behind Earth), too.
Also, in a telescope, Mercury will exhibit phases like the Moon does, being a “half moon” at elongations, a crescent just before (or after) it laps us, and full (but small because of the greater distance) when it’s near the opposite side of the sun. (The diagram shows this too.) It was Galileo’s telescopic observations of Mercury and Venus’s phases that proved that Venus and Mercury orbit the Sun and not the Earth.
Because Mercury sometimes appeared in the morning sky, just before sunrise, and sometimes in the evening sky, just after sunset, it took a while for us to twig that both occurrences were the same object. The Greeks had figured it out by about 350 BCE. (I can almost imagine the old jokes about how these two things were never seen in the same place at the same time…)
Putting an orbiter around Mercury was quite an achievement. In terms of “delta V”, the change in velocity we need to impart to a spacecraft to get it where we want to go, a flyby of Mercury is more difficult than a flyby of Neptune. Delta V directly affects the size and power of the rocket needed. For instance, imagine two spacecraft, one double the mass of the other, going on the same mission. They both have to have the same delta v, but (as one likely intuits) the heavier one will require twice as much rocket fuel. This is in part why NASA and other space agencies shave milligrams off of spacecraft any way they can. The bigger reason, though, comes in when you imagine two identical-mass spacecraft going on two different missions, one with twice the delta-v of the other. Let’s say one of them has a delta v of 30 km/sec and the other has a delta v of 15 km/sec. In this case your intuition fails you. The higher delta-v mission doesn’t require twice the fuel, it requires much more than that. Why? Because for that 30 km/sec mission, the first 15 km/sec of delta v doesn’t just occur to the probe, but to all the fuel it needs to take with it to do the last 15 km/sec of delta v. And we already know what the last 15 km/second takes–the bigass rocket it took to send the other mission on its way! As you can imagine, taking another kilogram off the weight of that payload reduces the fuel required by a lot.
So–excuse that digression, but it’s the fundamental bugbear of space travel–getting to Mercury is hard. Why?
Let’s compare it to going to Jupiter. Jupiter is much further away than Mercury. At closest approach Jupiter is 4.2 AUs away. Mercury is 0.6 AUs away, seven times closer. [And if you don’t recall, an AU–astronomical unit–is our solar system “yardstick” and is the average distance between the Earth and the Sun, roughly 150 million kilometers/93 million miles.]
To make the trip to either planet, you must first break free of Earth’s gravity. That’s the same in both cases, 12.6 km/sec. At that point your spacecraft is in orbit about the Sun, but it’s likely to be an orbit rather similar to Earth’s orbit. From this point, things diverge. To go to Jupiter, and just fly by, you need 3.36 km/sec more. To fly by Neptune, you need 5.39 km/sec instead.
To go inwards, to Venus and Mercury, you have to slow the spacecraft down relative to the Sun, so that the other side of its orbit gets closer to the Sun than we are. Which means we must work against Earth’s orbital motion. In the most extreme case, if we want to drop something into the Sun, we must cancel the entire orbital motion of the Earth, (and that’s after breaking free of Earth’s gravity to begin with). Mercury is not that bad, but merely to intercept it takes an additional 8.65 km/sec, compared to the 5.39 km/second to go to Neptune.
Add to this the fact that we don’t just want to fly by Mercury, but go into orbit around it. Add 1.22 km/second for that.
Our total is 12.6 + 8.65 + 1.22 = 22.47 km/sec (check me I did that in my head). New Horizons only needed 16 km/sec to go to Pluto.
We couldn’t do that without cheating, or rather by getting clever. We made no less than six gravity assists, which cost no fuel but require precise timing, to put MESSENGER into orbit around Mercury. The total mileage of the trip was 7.9 billion kilometers–further than a straight line to Pluto, about 53 AUs.
Start at the bottom and add up numbers to see how hard it is to get to various bodies of the solar system, on intercept (flyby), or into orbit, or to actually land. (And the same applies in the reverse direction, if you want a round trip from landing, back to Earth.) Look at how much it takes to “land” on Jupiter (not that there’s anything to land on)! 45 km/sec just for the last step, to drop out of Jovian orbit! That alone blows everything we’ve ever done in the past out of the water.
But enough talk of going there, how about we look at the planet itself?
Well, sure but let’s sneak up on it.
That diagram I just pasted in shows a key attribute of Mercury, but it’s a bit obscured. The planets’ orbits are shown at a bit of an oblique angle, making them look elliptical, but notice that in the case of Earth (blue) and Venus (cyan) the Sun is at the center of the drawn ellipses. Since the Sun must be at one of the two foci of a planet’s orbit, that tells you those orbits are actually pretty close to circular and they only look like ellipses because of perspective. But the Sun is visibly off center in the Mercury ellipse…which means it’s still an obvious ellipse even when not seen at an oblique angle.
Here’s a face-on diagram, which also includes Mars:
Mercury’s orbit still looks pretty circular, but you can see it’s just a tiny bit flattened along a line running from 1 to 7 o’clock. But the big tell is that the Sun is off center by an obvious amount, indicating the two foci of that ellipse are actually pretty far apart. Venus, on the other hand is almost perfectly centered on the Sun (it has the most circular orbit of any planet). Earth is a bit off center, Mars is more so. But Mercury is in the most eccentric orbit of any planet, and that has consequences.
Mercury zips around the Sun in 88 Earth days, and its closest/furthest approaches to the Sun are 0.3075 AU and 0.4667 AU, in other words at its farthest it’s over 50 percent further away from the Sun. Its average orbital speed is 47.36 km/sec (compare to Earth’s 29.7 km/sec or so). But it’s going to move considerably more slowly at aphelion (farthest distance from the sun) and considerably faster at perihelion (closest distance to the sun), 39.1 km/sec and 58.65 km/sec respectively. This might seem kind of boring, but it is going to matter.
Mercury itself is the smallest of the 8 currently-recognized planets in our solar system, its mass is 0.055 that of Earth (barely more than 1/20th) and its diameter is 4,480 km (compare to Earth at 12,700 km). In fact there are moons in our solar system that are bigger than Mercury.
We could not measure the mass of Mercury very accurately at all until we could send a spacecraft (Mariner 10, in the mid 1970s) on a flyby and measure how much the spacecraft’s trajectory bent as it flew by. That’s because Mercury doesn’t have any natural satellites (at least none big enough that we’ve been able to detect them). A natural satellite would give us the mass of the planet instantly and accurately based on its distance from the planet and its orbital period. Before spacecraft, we knew Neptune’s mass far better than we knew Mercury’s mass.
But once we knew Mercury’s mass, we could compute its average density (mass divided by volume), and that’s 5.427 grams per cubic centimeter. (Water is 1.0, generic rocks are about 3, iron is close to 8.) Earth’s is slightly higher at 5.513. These numbers tell us right off the bat that both planets contain a lot of metal in them, and both have cores of iron. But actually, Mercury is more impressive than Earth despite the numbers. Because in both cases, the planet’s innards are compressed under the weight of the outer layers (is “outtards” a word?). Earth, being almost 20 times more massive, is going to be a lot more compressed deep inside than is Mercury. So if, in spite of much more compression Earth is just barely more dense on average than Mercury, that tells you that Mercury’s iron core is much bigger, in comparison to the planet, than is Earth’s.
And we know some of that iron is molten, because Mercury has a magnetic field.
If you look at this diagram, the molten outer core of Mercury is much thicker, comparatively speaking, than our is, and the rocky mantle is thinner.
And also just like with diagram’s of Earth’s magnetic field, you’ll see that the solar wind gets deflected by the magnetic field. So people on the surface of Mercury wouldn’t be getting pelted by that kind of radiation.
But that’s poor consolation. It’s a shitty place to be for other reasons.
Mercury has very little atmosphere. And that’s largely because it’s hot. No surprise given how much closer to the Sun it is. But them, because it doesn’t have an atmosphere, there’s nothing to insulate the dark or nighttime side, so the nighttime side of Mercury can get quite cool. At the equator, Mercury can reach 427 °C in the daytime, but it cools to -173 °C at nighttime. At 85 °N latitude, it’s a still-intolerable 107°C in daytime and -193 °C at night. The average temperatures at these two places, 67 and -73 °C, almost seem tolerable by comparison. I don’t have info for any other latitudes, but there must be one in the middle somewhere with an average of 20 °C or so, room temperature to us Earthlings.
And that could be useful. Imagine being in a place on Mercury just a bit after sunset, before it has cooled off too much. If you could just move around enough to always be “just after sunset” or “just before sunrise” you might be able to build a base without busting the national budget just running the climate control.
That sounds a lot harder than it is, because Mercury rotates very slowly.
[OK…”tidal effects” time! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!]
Astronomers who managed to see something on Mercury were pretty confident it was tidally locked to the Sun…i.e., it always kept the same side facing the Sun, just like the Moon keeps the same side facing Earth. It turns out that that wasn’t true, but looked that way, because by coincidence every time they could observe Mercury well enough to get some hint of surface markings, it sure enough did have the same orientation to us and the Sun.
How does this happen? How do tidal effects cause this sort of thing?
Imagine the Sun off the bottom of that diagram, and some planet being pulled out of shape by the Sun’s tidal effects on the planet. The planet gets ever so slightly ellipsoidal (rugby ball shaped), but it’s cocked. The Sun will actually tug on the bulge closest to it, trying to force it to “line up.” The effect is to slow the planet’s rotation down, so that the bulge has time to settle directly in line with the Sun. And indeed if you look at our Moon (for comparison) it tends to be bulged on a line towards/away from Earth. Tidal effects pin that in place.
The problem was when they did the calculations, the Sun’s effect on Mercury shouldn’t be as strong as the Earth’s effect on the moon. So the real answer is that Mercury ends up being partially locked to the Sun.
With the Earth and the Moon, someone looking at the system from a “God’s Eye View” would see that the Moon rotates, relative to the stars, exactly as fast as it orbits the Earth. The net effect is the Moon rotates just fast enough that it always presents the same side to Earth.
Looking at Mercury, it actually rotates 1 1/2 times every time it goes around the Sun. So, at perihelion (closest approach to the Sun), Mercury will present one side to the Sun. The next time it’s at perihelion, it presents the opposite side to the Sun. Then the next time, it’s presenting the original side once again.
Here’s a diagram, showing two orbits of Mercury around the Sun, starting at 6 o’clock (position 1, arrow pointing to the Sun, it’s “noon”) and moving counter-clockwise (always counterclockwise!). At position 4 (half an orbit later), the arrow has gone through 3/4 of a turn compared to you, but compared to the Sun, it’s only now gone throug 1/4 of a turn and now it’s sunset there. Another half orbit, position 7, and the arrow has gone 1 1/2 times around (to you) but the arrow is now at midnight, pointing away from the Sun, for the first time since we started this. Another orbit, and the arrow spins 1 1/2 times (to you) or 1/2 of a time (as seen from the Sun, and we’re back at position 1.
This is a very stark example of the difference between a sidereal day (a rotation relative to the stars; 360 degrees in absolute terms), versus a synodic day (a rotation as seen from the Sun). The sidereal day is 56.6 earth days, the synodic day is 176 days, three times as long.
So Mercury is rotating a little too fast, still, to be tidally locked, or is it? By most scientists’ reckoning, this is actually a form of tidal lock–otherwise it’d be one heck of a coincidence!
Remember when I said that Mercury’s much higher than average speed near perihelion would matter? It matters here. It so happens that at that part of its orbit–and this is the part with the strongest tidal effect because it’s closest to the Sun–Mercury is moving at about the right speed to keep the same face towards the sun…for a while. What you’d see if you were standing at that red arrow is the Sun slowly climbing into the sky…but as it got near the meridian it would seem to slow down, stop, and hang there for much longer than you’d expect, and then it would speed up again and eventually set. The tidal effect is strongest when Mercury is closest to the Sun, and at that time it fakes a full-on tidal lock!
More info on tidal locking here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_locking (I barely scratched the surface).
56.6 days (relative to the stars) is a pretty slow rotation period, and Mercury is tiny. It turns out that its rotation speed at the equator is 10.892 kph or 6.8 mph. A long distance runner could conceivably run fast enough for quite some time, to get the stars to stand still from his point of view. But it’s far more interesting to try to keep up with the Sun (or keep ahead of it). But that’s easier; the sun on average seems to move 1/3 has fast as the stars.
So you can imagine a base, mounted on some sort of motorized platform doing less than 2 1/2 miles an hour on average, staying just ahead of the rising sun or just behind the setting sun. As long as it doesn’t break down, you’re in good shape.
But it’d be expensive to try. And who’s going to trust a motor under such harsh conditions, tens of millions of miles away from the repair shop?
That highly elliptical orbit of Mercury has one other consequence, one that affected us. If you draw a line through that ellipse the long way, that’s the “line of apsides” (the line from aphelion to perihelion). If there were only the Sun and Mercury in the solar system, that line should never move, according to Newton’s theory of Gravitation. However, there are other planets, and they do tug, slightly, on Mercury. That’s enough to shift the line of apsides slowly.
And this is indeed what we see. Measuring carefully, every century the line of apsides turns 574.1 arc-seconds in a century. (An arc-second is 1/3600th of a degree of arc.) That’s very slow, but it’s not zero.
In 1859, French astronomer and mathematician Urbain Le Verrier did the math. Exactly how much should the planets be mucking with Mercury’s line of apsides? He included the effects of all of the other planets, and the Sun’s equatorial bulge, and got an answer of 531.63 arc-seconds per century.
There was a 43.5 arc-second discrepancy.
Le Verrier had successfully predicted the existence of Neptune thirteen years earlier, by noting that Uranus’ orbital motion was being perturbed, first speeding up as it catches up to Neptune and is pulled on by it, then slowing down after it laps Neptune and is tugged back by it. This was a major triumph for the theory of gravitation; an effect that seemed “off” which should have made the theory doubtful, had actually been used to make a good prediction, making the theory stronger.
But what this means is that Le Verrier had a hammer, a very good one, and this problem with Mercury looked like another nail.
Le Verrier predicted that there was a planet closer to the Sun than Mercury, that would cause the line of apsides to move another 43.5 arc-seconds per century. This planet would be very close to the Sun, obviously, and very hot. The natural name for this given the Graeco-Roman mythological theme for planet names, was Vulcan after the god of the forge (Hephaestus to the Greeks). No, nothing to do with the Star Trek Vulcans. (In fact, this confusion got highlighted in one of the original Star Trek series’ episodes, where Spock has to explain to a 20th century Air Force officer that he’s not from that Vulcan.)
Astronomers looked in vain for Vulcan. It has never been seen, and almost certainly does not exist.
Fast forward to 1915 and a certain obscure scientist by the name of Albert Einstein is trying to work out an improved theory of gravitation. For it to make sense it had to resemble Newtonian gravitation under all normal circumstances, and only be different with extremely strong gravitational fields, stronger than anything we’d yet encountered.
But it turns out there’s a border case: close to the Sun, gravity is strong, just strong enough that the difference between Newton’s theory and Einstein’s idea might have a slight effect.
Einstein decided to see what the motion of Mercury would be like under his theory, as compared to Newton.
And he got a 43 1/2 arcsecond per century difference. When he got that answer, he later said, it was the happiest moment of his life. He had a possible explanation for that nagging problem of Mercury’s line of apsides! This was a very strong tell that he was on the right track. It would take more work to prove it, but that didn’t take long…four years in fact. (I tell that story elsewhere.)
So there you have it: Mercury in ancient lore, Mercury as a charred, bombarded cinder of a world, the solar system’s most extreme and slowest rotisserie, and Mercury as an object that helped open the door to our modern understanding of physics.
中国是个混蛋 !!! Zhōngguò shì gè hùndàn !!! China is asshoe !!!
China is in the White House
Since Wednesday, January 20 at Noon EST, the bought-and-paid for His Fraudulency Joseph Biden has been in the White House. It’s as good as having China in the Oval Office.
Joe Biden is Asshoe
China is in the White House, because Joe Biden is in the White House, and Joe Biden is identically equal to China. China is Asshoe. Therefore, Joe Biden is Asshoe.
But of course the much more important thing to realize:
Joe Biden Didn’t Win
乔*拜登没赢 !!! Qiáo Bài dēng méi yíng !!! Joe Biden didn’t win !!!
In Part 1 of Scoundrels I discussed the historical background of the criminal network of the region that extended from the depths of human depravity to the White House. There was a trail exposed from the man who made the call to destroy hundreds of thousands of people with two atomic bombs to end a war that had ravaged half of the earth killing millions of people. That trail would also eventually lead to the deaths of another POTUS from the same political party as well as other iconic social justice leaders. The criminal underbelly of politics, cults, vices, government, law enforcement, judiciary, business and so on was exposed in middle America; which existed then and exists now to an even greater extent nationwide.
I give a special thanks to our faithful patriot host, Wolf, for providing this forum.
The choice to read and acceptance of the content is now entirely in your court. I left literally dozens of rat holes to dive into with more to come if you need something to do with your time. I am not going into them anymore. I have too many scars from the experiences. I am more of a macro guy anyway, an explorer, I need to explore the next hill and move on. I will leave it to those who are called to dig for the treasure. However, I urge others with the skillsets of investigatory curiosity and research to do so who want to advance the cause of truth and justice for the billions of people of this planet who have and continue to be severely damaged by the evil.
Part 2 and Part 3 are primers about some of the methods that the underlying criminal system in power used BIMD and still use today. In this part I will discuss the plantation approach in farm country BIMD. This will lead to a current day manufacturing example from the same area in the bootheel of MO in Part 3. This BIMD agriculture example is specific to my experiences and observations, but can be applied universally. It is interconnected to Part 1.
How It Worked There (And Everywhere in Everything)
In those days in the delta, the non-overtly criminal, wealthier people were primarily the farmers whose families accumulated large tracts of acreage over time and consolidated it into family business ownership over generations. The wealthier were also those who had businesses related to agriculture that included processing the yields of crops such as warehouses, cotton gins, grain mills, canning, etc. as well as related equipment suppliers, fuel distribution, trucking, barge transportation, bankers, attorneys, CPAs and so on. Add in, of course, the criminals such as politicians who bent the rule of law and principles of fair governing for their collective profit. However, it all worked there because of wealthy farm owners doing their thing. When times became tough on them due to droughts, floods, commodity market price dips, etc.; their hands would go out to Uncle Sam for our tax dollars through the efforts of their “friendly” politicians and legal operatives exerting influence such as Jame Ed Reeves (JER) and the Ward & Reeves law firm.
To operate a large farm you needed cheap labor even after large farm mechanization had kicked in. If the employable people in the area had other, higher paying options they would not work on a farm because it is hard, boring work with zero career and retirement upside. Owners in the farming and supporting roles such as those listed previously, preferred to keep their fellow man in a less educated state of poverty or else they would be forced to pay more for labor. It was and still is the system. As a result they were adamantly against the pro-business GOP and any influx of manufacturing and related distribution related businesses operating in the area that would increase the wage base and benefits to area residents. They just could not broadcast that desire, it had to be kept on the down low.
If you doubt this, ask yourself why a $1.275+ million John Deere cotton picker is operated by a $20 per hour wage earner with no benefits today. BIMD it was a $70 K cotton picker operated by a $5 per hour wage earner with no benefits.
However, the politicians and business leaders at the Chamber continued to tell these same area residents how hard they were fighting for them to have good jobs while adding social welfare handouts to “help” them get by. As an owner/operator of a farm and other support network occupations, it worked to your advantage to keep people in poverty and what better ways are there to do that than to keep them undereducated and untrained without access to higher wage employment as well as enslaved in vices and cults? Bad public schools with other illegal “entertainment” options were your friends. Wink, wink.
It taught me to be more merciful to my fellow man. At least when I understood fully that much of the nation’s economy has become systemized evil foisted on the unwitting to the profit of others. Willpower to reject the systemized temptations alone are not enough for most average people. We need Jesus in our lives or we can easily fall prey. I did not see many examples of true Bible believing Christians in the facilities and gatherings of the criminal machine BIMD. But there were plenty of posers and evil doers who managed to regularly make their way into the church pews on Sunday only to resume their lives of sin and crime on Monday. Only the Lord would know the state of their hearts and commitment because the other days of the week did not reveal the same dedication.
This overall methodology does not just apply to agriculture, as the principles and process still applies to many areas of American commerce, government, etc. today. There will always be a need for controllable, cheap, uninformed, uneducated labor. Robots are not real good at some common criminal activities, yet. The Dems, RINO’s and less scrupulous will always be happy to violate the law to make money off the cheap labor and gain power. The uniparty GOP will always be happy to play their parts as foils to make money as controlled opposition. The globalist elite will always be happy to use all of their services to increase their control and wealth. They have all long since possessed the ability to provide illegals with legal ID documents to cover their tracks. They know the flaws in the American system intimately and take advantage of them with impunity.
Since the controlled economic system went top down, the farm owners knew their place in the hierarchy and how much profit upside was available. As an owner, if you found a guy who was dependable and reasonably good at operating a tractor, cotton picker, combine, gin, etc.; you would pay him just enough to keep him and feed his family. You would probably provide an old farmhouse on your land for them to live in for free or low rent if you had a mortgage to pay on it. You would help them fix it up over time as long as he was an employee. If he was loyal and stayed with you until retirement, you would usually let them stay there at a low rent for as long as possible.
You would become wealthier. The worker and his family would have just enough to live until they died, just like all good plow mules who had enough food and strength to work until they were no longer able. The vices and cults would keep them in a controlled state. Many of their children would likely remain as raised, which would provide the next generation of labor.
You might even make sure the guy had some cash in his pocket to participate in the “fun” down at the county line or in Caruthersville on weekends. If he was into wacky tobaccy you could choose to look the other way and not see those plants along the Corp of Engineers managed flood control ditches and canals on your property. If he had proven to be trustworthy, you might even take a cut of the cash and/or product for him to have an expanded sharecropping opportunity. Even the crop dusters knew where to avoid spraying herbicides and pesticides for a little product compensation. Of course that might mean you need to pass some cash along to the friendly sheriff’s reelection campaign, or in Sheriff Orton’s case, his bookie operation and restaurant. Or perhaps a friend or relative of a key local leader in the machine needed a job or bailed out of whatever mess he/she found himself/herself.
If the farming operations became too much to control, you the land owner simply rented the land out to other farmers who needed access to create more crop production to make the most of their equipment and labor investment. As a farm land owner you would maintain good relations with the county property tax assessor to make sure your tax assessments were reasonable, perhaps with a little cash or business opportunity available to help them do a good job or toward their coming reelection. You needed to make sure their buds stayed in office long enough to get a good pension, right?
But what would a dumb son-in-law know about such things? Goober played the part well. Sheriff Orton figured out he was not a fed operative for the white hats and ignored him being around. Which is obvious since Goober is not worm food.
😎
But I have since come to the full understanding that there was nowhere to turn to make it stop outside of Heaven. What was clearly illegal and destructive to America was not subject to change by a system that derived full benefit from it. Sort of a key observation and point for today, don’t you think? Which makes what PDT is doing all the more remarkable.
If you did not before, you should now already understand why the invaders are flooding across our border. Far less numbers of American citizens are willing to work in lowered skilled labor roles with zero upside because they have other options that include a lot of government safety nets. Those remaining that are willing are being injured and genocidally murdered by the pharmaceutical and medical industries by the millions. Lest we forget, injury and murder sometimes takes years to accomplish, however, the seeds of same have been planted in tens of millions. Some working class citizens have their personal integrity stripped enough like Green in Part 1 such that they are willing to get into the thieving, drug dealing, human trafficking gigs and so forth as long as they have “protection” for those times when they are observed in the acts and get into trouble. Hello, freemasons everywhere among many other cults.
The unipartyists and globalists also need voters as well as distributors and enforcers for those drug and human/sex trafficking trades that replaced those in bootlegging, traditional sex workers, etc. such as is provided by the cartels crossing our borders in record numbers. Having continued the generally successful crash of the public education and medical systems with an escalation of the depopulation game plan and domestic terrorism; at some point they will no longer be needed and funding will be cut off. With the missions and usefulness of the invaders completed, off they will go back to their countries of origin that serve as safe harbors until the next call and fistful of money deploys them again. All of it performed to help dumb down and otherwise destroy American culture and citizen population, which has led to a nation now teetering on collapse.
Important Observation
When a criminal enterprise in a “line of business” ceases to be profitable or useful, the criminal machine will participate in its destruction to gain public support. Prior to the destruction they will have already planned and implemented replacement(s). The bright, shiny object is displayed and prominently publicized as the “good guys” taking it down. FIB, ATF, etc. enter the scene at the appropriate moment. Politicians then pile on claiming credit using their media lackeys with celebrity influencers chiming in. Entertainment programs come out in television and cinema to build the images of the enforcers.
It is a well designed system. Many American citizens fall for it. Others simply turn a blind eye toward it all. Which contributes to their success. But there is well founded hope for a better future.
What the cabal simply cannot defend successfully is broad exposure of their intentions and deeds. If the masses realize what is happening and resist participation, it ends.
Which is the primary purpose of these stories.
Sample
The uniparty politicians and criminal participants did not go to war with FIB and law enforcement over the destruction of the mob operations in the region. Why?
They allowed the uniparty GOP leadership to play the parts of the “good guys” and clean it up to impress those opposed to the evil and crime that resulted from looking the other way with vices and cults all those years. Select criminals were scapegoated and sacrificed for the cabal’s greater good. The law abiding public’s tension about the situations decreased and the new lines of business kicked in. Uniparty members like AG “Saint” Jack Danforth had their images polished for his future bump to Club Senate, while ignoring the new lines of business of the uniparty criminal operatives. He could then go on to play his the uniparty’s controlled opposition role in DC.
When the trigger was pulled to bring the mob’s operations down, the Dems and criminal machine had already begun implementing plans to legalize gambling nationwide, utilize and expand drug dealing instead of booze bootlegging, liberalize and decriminalize sexual activities and perversion, and so on. Basically all of the things we see they are trying to legitimize and build into the American culture today. Always one or more steps ahead.
It is a system. The good news is they realize the public holds the keys to their future success. They know there is a need to deceive or else they would not succeed. Which should tell all of us to not contribute to their efforts. Resist participation and go a different way. Bring the evil to light so others will not fall prey.
You should also now fully understand why Christianity has been under a full scale attack, why stuff like DEI and trans rights are being thrust upon us among many other destructive initiatives. But it gets worse. What happens when you no longer control your own food supply?
Back To The Farms (Plantations)
The referenced big family farm owners were almost exclusively second and third generation BIMD. Their parents and grandparents had the foresight to purchase and clear the flat, fertile lands while working other occupations. Land purchase costs were low in southeast Missouri and NE Arkansas because the Little River Drainage District had not yet developed waterways to drain the swampy ground in the area. It was common to purchase tracts for $10-25 per acre a hundred years ago. Such was the case with ex’s family. The patriarch purchased hundreds of acres at a time of scruffy, wild cypress forested swampland at very low prices as he earned enough money to do so. Over the years he accumulated nearly a thousand acres that only a hunter would want. He had a vision for the land and had heard through his Democrat political cronies that the Little River Drainage District waterway work was planned. After work at his postal service job and on weekends he would do clearing work along with a local guy or two who needed some extra money. Over time he began farming small tracts and learning the business end as the drainage project started and was later completed. The District was eventually turned over to the U. S. Corp of Engineers to maintain.
By the time my ex Father-In-Law (FIL) was an adult and graduated from college, the farm operation had become self sufficient with even more acreage as his father purchased some of the dry and previously cleared land through the Depression and WW II years
The soil is very fertile because it was the former bed of the Mississippi River prior to the great New Madrid Earthquakes of 1811-1812. The quakes were so severe they forced the river to run backwards, diverting its path in the region while creating a new bed, and backfilled an area with water that became Reelfoot Lake in western TN. For over a hundred years that lake has been known for excellent crappie fishing. A link describing the earthquakes and effects is below.
Their family farm began earning enough to plow the profits of the operation into buying even more land. That process continued off and on into the third generation in the family during my time there. The cash crop in that area for many years was cotton and the patriarch had built a gin he and local farmers used. Also during my time there, the family replaced the original with a new electronics driven gin as well as a modern milling operation for the soybeans and winter wheat beans that had been introduced into the area during the 1970s. For more on that year round crop rotation method please read the link below.
By the time of my divorce the family owned over 7000 acres of prime farmland in the SE MO bootheel and NE AR. They reduced their own farming operation to about 3000 acres or so and rented the rest out to other farmers. All of the crop yields from their land were processed through the gin and mill while other farmers in the area would also utilize their services. By all appearances they seemed to have it all.
Problems Under The Surface
With that in mind and now refocusing on the JER interview from Part 1, most of us who were there during the referenced points of time and knew the people involved can easily tell when something JER said in that interview was probably true or just BS. One of the towns mentioned, Holland, I knew well. It was the town of my ex and her family, which had its own criminal electioneering background among other things that then AG Danforth prosecuted. I know because my ex FIL had been caught up in it with Pappy Brown and crew long before I ever met his daughter and moved to the area. The story went that there were around 600 total votes cast with my ex FIL voted to be the mayor of the tiny town of Holland with its total population of about 300 or so. His opponent, the other wealthy, farm owner/operator in town filed a lawsuit. Of course if you had money, you could buy yourself out of many jams and ex FIL did. Democrat U. S. Senator Thomas Eagleton came to his rescue. Yup, the same Eagleton who spent a couple of weeks as a VP candidate on McGovern’s ticket until the GOP and media found out he had once been hospitalized for mental health issues. He voluntarily withdrew his name and remained a Senator in the state for many years.
After the elections fiasco in Holland the family’s reputation took a hit, which affected business. The farmer who was their political opponent stopped using their services along with a number of others in the area and added his own milling and warehousing. The reduction in business impacted my ex’s family finances as well as dealing with significant mortgage debt on the farmland at the banks that continued into the awful Carter years and beyond when interest rates were approaching 20%. As previously described my ex’s parents were bound and robbed at gunpoint in the mid-1970’s. Criminal/FBI Operative Sheriff Orton entered into law enforcement again. Ex FIL’s attorney, George K. Reeves (GKR) with Ward & Reeves law firm had moved from the area to Memphis with another place in New Orleans for his Board work with Middle South Utilities; so he had nobody at the law firm he trusted since Orton was represented by JER. GKR’s obit reveals more information about him below.
Well, would you looky there. They officially acknowledge the “rough and tumble days” (translated – mob operated crime ring) in the bootheel and GKR’s employment for a few years after WW II for J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI. Imagine that; the FBI, Hoover, Memphis, Bootheel, and New Orleans all in one long obit bio of a regionally high profile attorney. I am sure it is just another in a long list of coincidences. It was no surprise that soon after moving his family to Memphis to live in 1979 they all became estranged with the divorce of GKR and his wife. For those that remember Part 1, that would be about a year or so after the Congressional committee hearing that Green testified in with FBI #3 Deke Deloach in attendance regarding the truth about the MLK, Jr. assassination. An assassination Ward & Reeves law firm would have likely known details about due to the clients they represented who were involved in same. Of which several of those same clients were likely fed operatives with inter lapping FIB connections.
My ex’s parents were shocked and surprised when they were told of the divorce. The official response from people who knew them was GKR’s ex was just crazy. Crazy as in distancing herself and children from their bootheel past and the line of fire among other reasons. Both of their children, an adult son and daughter, remained in Memphis with their mother.
The tangled webs people weave…
Corporate Farms
Besides the obvious protection provided from “rough and tumble” people in the area, one of the reasons ex FIL was tied into Ward & Reeves law firm and GKR above was because of federal estate tax laws. The tax bite when passing down family farms to the next generation was horrible. Estate tax planning was a necessary, expensive evil that included extensive CPA and specialist tax attorney involvement with the use of complex tax shelters. Guess which political party held control over the federal tax laws in Congress during those days? Yup. When GKR left the area, some of that needed legal assistance fell on junior attorneys who were less competent.
Fortunately for family farmers the laws changed over time beginning with the Tax Reform Act of 1986 during Reagan’s time and strategies developed that made taxation issues somewhat more manageable through the years that followed. As those moderated, however, more long stressed family farmers decided to sell out and receive large monetary nest eggs for their families, which could be invested where? Why the uniparty, globalist controlled Wall Street of course. No point in toiling in the soil when one can let others manage their money and take it easy, right? Which led to more large farming operations owned and controlled by corporate farms as well as the loss of control of the family wealth to the deceivers on the Street. Well, is that not convenient of the already wealthy globalists to provide that avenue? Decades of oppressive tax laws that threatened the ability of many farming families to survive as well as pass down the land to their families that forced them to use many Democrat connected tax attorneys and CPA’s for tax advice and shelters; had been replaced by tax relief that removed the shackles that made it easier to sell out to those same Democrat affiliated corporate elites who benefitted from the previous oppressive tax laws.
From one pocket to the other.
See how that works? Follow the money. A farmer who was called to be a farmer deep in his or her heart and soul would never consider selling out for money if they could remain financially viable. Farmers tend to value their independence far more. However, many less called and less vested second and third generations are happy to do so. The trappings of cash, wealth and elite society that do not involve working the land are far more attractive to many. The cabal knows that truth and uses it to their benefit. They own the entertainment industry that uses movies, shows, books, music, theater and such to glorify the rich and famous that helps create idol worship and envy for their purposes.
With the tax relief, escalating land costs from inflation and corporate farm purchases, along with an improving overall economy; the land prices began to escalate significantly. What once went for $1.5 -2 K an acre BIMD has jumped to $7-10 K subject to location and characteristics today. For example, the link below is for a 140 acres, high yielding tract in the bootheel county of New Madrid listed for $1.117 million today. It is currently rented to another party for $28 K a year and appears to be a good spot for hunting of migratory ducks and geese that are in the flight pattern.
Remember this New Madrid area, we will revisit in Scoundrels, Part 3.
How many second, third and even fourth generation adult children of family farms are going to continue to fight the government entities, supply chain malfunction, excessive equipment costs, climate fluctuations, commodity market manipulations and overall economic challenges that make it difficult to continue to work the land when they can receive a check from big bank financed international corporate carpetbaggers for an amount that puts them and their immediate heirs on easy street? Not many. All of it happening with the industry consolidating while taking more and more control of our food supply and pricing of same. As I expected, my ex and her brother sold out the big family farm not long after their father passed when the prices rose to high enough levels to satisfy their creature comfort desires.
Those called and continuing to work the land regardless of the difficulties and temptations to sell out are American patriots and heroes in my book. We need more of them and less sell outs. The sell outs rarely think about how the money will fly away through the generations through excessive spending, inflation, bad investments, taxes, etc. Wisdom is always in such short supply with these folks. Many are only thinking of themselves not having to work. Rarely do they consult the Lord or think about what they are doing may help sell America down the river.
Scarcity Versus Abundance – Conclusion
There is always a sense of abundance versus scarcity mentalities on full display in these type scenarios. You can tell in what and who that people believe by their choices. Christians are taught to believe in abundance, the existence of plenty that is provided by God Himself to His children. They know that everything they have or receive is a gift and with it comes a desire to be obedient to His will for His people and creation. Father knows best.
The world teaches scarcity, that there is a limited amount of the good stuff and you need to fight or outwit your fellow man to get your share. They believe only the strong survive. Their personal desires are all that matter. The greater good is rarely considered unless there is something in it for them. They believe in the freedom to pursue whatever pleases you.
In both camps, temptations exist that must be navigated or all may be lost. We will discuss this more in the future.
A reminder for some of us…
Scoundrels, Part 3 is on deck. Until then, blessings to all.
Author’s note: this one is going to be REALLY short and sweet. Grab a cold one, and kick back. Auntie DePat is running out of time to do one really right. Dress rehearsals are a pain in the backside.
Consider this question: when is the last time you can remember an Establishment politician trying to unite Americans behind common history and principles, irrespective of background or race? It’s been many years, has it not? Why is that? Because the current power structure of the U.S. government depends upon keeping Americans fiercely divided.

21“But if a wicked man turns away from all his sins which he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 22None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness which he has done he shall live. 23Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, says the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live? 24But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity and does the same abominable things that the wicked man does, shall he live? None of the righteous deeds which he has done shall be remembered; for the treachery of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, he shall die. 25“Yet you say, `The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear now, O house of Israel: Is my way not just? Is it not your ways that are not just? 26When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die for it; for the iniquity which he has committed he shall die. 27Again, when a wicked man turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is lawful and right, he shall save his life. 28Because he considered and turned away from all the transgressions which he had committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
PSALMS 130:1-8
1Out of the depths I cry to thee, O LORD! 2Lord, hear my voice! Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications! 3If thou, O LORD, shouldst mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? 4But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. 5I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; 6my soul waits for the LORD more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. 7O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plenteous redemption. 8And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
MATTHEW 5:20-26
20For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 21“You have heard that it was said to the men of old, `You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.’ 22But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, `You fool!’ shall be liable to the hell of fire. 23So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison; 26truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.
The State of California is a textbook example of what happens when leftist oligarchs, environmentalist extremists, academic socialists, corporatists and crony capitalists, labor unions (mostly in the public sector), ambulance-chasing trial lawyers, and a media best described collectively as negligent, lazy cowards all join hands and decide to loot the middle class. The people being driven out of California are variously described by Democrats as too privileged, too independent, too unsustainable, recalcitrant, troglodytic, superseded, irrelevant, unwanted, and guilty by reason of whiteness. The attitude of California’s upper class towards the people whose hard work built the state is either hurry up and die or get lost and good riddance.
Same thing that happens when any group assuming the mantle of “elite” has reason to keep the non-elite suppressed for fear of overthrow.

13Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesare’a Philip’pi, he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that the Son of man is?” 14And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Eli’jah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona!
