Boebert Day
Friday was the day that delegates from all over Colorado’s 4th Congressional District met to designate a candidate. This is Ken B*ck’s old district. Lauren Boebert who now represents Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, has moved into this district believing that she has a better chance of winning here. Her election in 2022 was the closest race for Congress anywhere in the United States; she won by a few hundred votes.
OK a bit of personal background. I live in El Paso county; that’s the one where Colorado Springs is located. It’s actually the most populous county in Colorado (even beating out the City and County of Denver). As a result of the last census, Colorado gained an eighth house seat and everything got redistricted. My old congressional district, 5 (Doug Lamborn, who is also leaving) had formerly included El Paso County and a bunch of smaller surrounding counties, now CD5 can’t even cover the whole county. A bit on the west side of the county got shaved off and given to CD 7, my piece on the east, on the prairie, got shaved off and handed over to CD4.
Finding myself in Ken B*ck’s district I have said several times that I wished I were in Boebert’s district. With her making this move…well now I am…but first she has to win the election!
It’s a near certainty that the Republican nominee will win the district; the problem is to ensure that Lauren Boebert becomes the nominee.
I was an alternate to this assembly but did manage to fill in for someone who didn’t show, so now delegate SteveInCO had the opportunity to vote.
Four candidates were vying for the nomination at the assembly. Boebert, some guy named Ted Harvey, someone else named Richard Holtorf and yet another named Jerry Sonnenberg.
As it turns out, the other three are verifiable RINOs with scores in the 60s (100=perfect conservative) though in the case of Harvey I had to talk to another former state legislator who worked with him to find it out; his term was too long ago.
Of course every single one of them talked a good game…Did you know that they are all ranchers? No? You would within five minutes of arriving at the assembly; every one of their signs said “rancher” on it.
An observer from Mars would be forgiven for concluding, on the basis of their speeches, that all four were equally conservative. (This is why listening to the speeches is pointless. However, IF you’ve been around long enough to know who the old retired RINOs are, you can sometimes figure things out by watching WHO is doing the nominating.)
So after the speeches it was time to vote. (And yes one of the other three went out of his way to say he wasn’t a carpetbagger from Rifle, and I could hear people’s surprise that he would attempt to call out Boebert that way; generally candidates at these things do not sling mud at each other.)
And at 12:20 on Friday, April 5, I happily cast my ballot for Lauren Boebert.
That felt good.
And it has been many years I could feel good casting a ballot (with the exception of the presidential primary on Super Tuesday).
So here’s the deal. To get to go to this assembly, you must attend precinct caususes; each precinct is assigned a number of delegates in proportion to the number of people who voted for the Republican candidate for governor the last gubernatorial election. (That really should be spelled goober-natorial.) At the caucus they vote for people to go. I failed to get into this (but did get into county and state house level assemblies) but secured an alternate slot. If enough people from my county failed to show up I could replace one of them. As it happens, out of 7 delegates total, one did not show up, and I was the only alternate from my county, and I got “elevated”…and so I got to vote for Boebert. (El Paso County, the 900 lb gorilla of the state, only had 7 delegates here…because only a tiny sliver of the county got put into this congressional district.)
OK so here are the rules: only candidates who get 30 percent of the vote are considered “designated” and will appear on the primary ballot. UNLESS the candidate also gets an adequate number of signatures by petition, in which case the threshold is ten percent. This is a major problem, as I will explain below.
In any case the final vote tally (with 159 votes being 30 percent, or 53 votes being ten percent) is: Boebert 215, Ted Harvey 135, Richard Holtorf 81, and Jerry Sonnenberg getting 96 votes. So only Lauren Boebert would appear on the primary ballot.
Except for those damn petitions.
Under Colorado law, you can petition onto the primary ballot and completely bypass these assemblies. Almost every incumbent GOP politician does this; they’re generally despised by the party grassroots because…they’re RINOs. Or you can petition AND go to the assembly and be designated with only ten percent of the vote.
In this case, Harvey did not petition at all, so he is out of the race, and good riddance. However Holtorf and Sonnenberg did petition (perhaps unsuccessfully, I don’t know yet) and therefore WILL be on the ballot if they were successful.
There is at least one other candidate, Flora (I don’t know if that’s a first or last name) who petitioned on and did not go through the assembly; she (?) will be on the primary ballot. There may be others.
The one bit of good news is that assembly winners go on the ballot above the petitioners.
The reason I said petitioning is a problem is that Incumbent politicians use the petition process to circumvent the party grassroots. They don’t have to pay any attention to us whatsoever; they hire someone to gather signatures for them, they end up on the primary ballot with no indication of how they got there (other than they aren’t top line on the ballot), and because of name recognition they win the primary, again. Petitioning needs to either be ditched, or require a 20% showing at the relevant assembly. But this will never happen, the incumbents know they can’t get re-elected without the petition process, so it will remain required by law, because they won’t change the law.
Other races decided on Friday were state school board…where a RINO and a good candidate ended up almost tied, so both will be on the primary ballot, and my house district (at a totally separate meeting), where there were two good people and one RINO, however his home base county (whose people he has snookered) had half of the delegates in that assembly. So it was a 50-25-25 split and the RINO will be on the ballot unopposed (no petitioners for this race). The incumbent, by the way, is a RINO who has brain cancer; he opted not to run.
I still have the (unused because unnecessary) second round ballot from the House 4th CD race; it’s going to become a treasured souvenir of the first time I got to vote for Lauren Boebert. I even have a picture of it:
Saturday (today) will be the election of RNC committee people; three candidates, the incumbent talks too much about being Hispanic and endorsed RINO McDaniel in 2022 (HELL NO!), of the two others, one has managed to turn Pueblo County red (former union democrat stronghold) and will get my vote. The third one has been spamming me a lot (almost as much as the incumbent) and I’ve been ignoring her.

Gold has been going up, and up, and up. It touched $2300 on Wednesday, dipped on Thursday, and more than made up for the dip on Friday. And Silver Finally Woke Up. It was $2.50 over the previous week, just shy of a ten percent increase. (Gold went up less than five percent.)
Gold is well above the magic $2,067 mark. That’s the point at which the dollar is worth one cent in gold by the old gold standard of one troy ounce of gold is $20.67. Does that mean the dollar is worth a real penny? I would say it probably has more purchasing power than a cent did in the 1920s, but then we’ve gotten better at producing things…what you should see with stable money is a decline in prices as we get more productive. Instead we get a steady inflation. Sometimes very strong, but never do prices trend down. Gee, I wonder what that could be about.

The Eclipse
Of course the big news in the hard sciences is the upcoming solar eclipse.

But I will show this map of the path of the eclipse.
A bit of a joke there but it highlights the point that only totality is going to be something more than mildly interesting. If you can get to that O! M! G! stripe, do so; the closer to the center the better.
Weather is looking bad through all of Texas with slightly better chances of good weather near the border with Mexico. But chances are, we’ll have this to say on Tuesday.
As has been pointed out a solar eclipse occurs somewhere on Earth roughly every 18 months or so. These are not rare events in that sense. But it can be centuries between occurrences at any one particular spot on Earth, so they seem like truly unusual events. Most people must travel to see one during their lifetimes. (And some make it their rather expensive hobby to try to see them all; these people are called “eclipse chasers.”)
Well I am part eclipse chaser. I’m going to this just in case the weather turns out better than expected.

IMO, this is correct. The difference is that “unvaccinated” persons still have a chance to mitigate/reduce/even eliminate, the negative effects of COVID-19 “vaccines” elements that may shed onto them from “vaccinated” persons. On the other hand, “vaccinated” persons, especially if they keep taking COVID-19 “vaccines”, may not be able to mitigate/reduce/even eliminate, the negative effects of these products in their bodies.
This is why taking one or more in rotation of Nattokinase, Serrapeptase, Bromelain and other supplements can help clean the pipes from exposure from shedding or past jabs.
I take at least one and most days two of them every day. My blood work is normal in every category now.

I tried Nattokinase for a few days, with food, and it felt like I was getting a stomach ulcer. Stopped taking it after 3 days, and a day or two later, the stomach pain stopped.
Wondering if there is reason to think the other two (Serrapeptase or Bromelain) might not have the same negative effect on my stomach.

I felt the power of God in the universe like nothing else when the world hushed in the darkness. It was unreal. A transformational experience. The thousands of people I was among just went silent, as we witnessed it.

Chose to not used them.Intentionally did NOT stare, as the eclipse started or ended. During the total eclipse, staring safe. Or so I had read.
Totality is safe.
The glasses before and after? Mine are very old and probably safe. Who knows how the quality control is today on freebies–but even there they should be OK for quick glances. I certainly do trust my $80 filter for the camera.
Earlier, a cousin shared a FB post talking about glasses being sold that are being recalled. I did a search and saw some AAS discussions. They have a list of 100 approved ones and say lots more are good. So I shared that back with her to add more data to the mix.

I learned about Betty Lou Oliver today.
I was talking to my Mom on the phone and she mentioned an earthquake in NYC that had been on the news. She was surprised no buildings had fallen.
That reminded me that the Empire State Building had been hit by a WWII bomber near the end of the war, and it apparently did not do too much damage (didn’t knock the building down, anyway), so a mild earthquake shouldn’t be a problem.
She had never heard of the bomber hitting the Empire State Building, so I looked it up online while I was on the phone, and read her the details.

On July 28, 1945, a B-25 Mitchell bomber of the United States Army Air Forces crashed into the north side of the Empire State Building in New York City while flying in thick fog.
The crash killed fourteen people (three crewmen and eleven people in the building), and an estimated twenty-four others were injured.
Damage caused by the crash was estimated at US $1 million (equivalent to about $17 million in 2023), although the building’s structural integrity was not compromised.”
The Incident
On Saturday, July 28, 1945, Lieutenant Colonel William Franklin Smith Jr., of Watertown, Massachusetts, was piloting a B-25 Mitchell bomber on a routine personnel transport mission from Bedford Army Air Field in Massachusetts. Due to thick fog, the aircraft was unable to land at LaGuardia Airport as scheduled. The pilot requested to divert to Newark Metropolitan Airport in New Jersey.
Smith asked for clearance to land, but he was advised of zero visibility. Proceeding anyway, he became disoriented by the fog and turned right instead of left after flying dangerously close to the Chrysler Building on East 42nd Street.

At 9:40 a.m., the aircraft crashed into the north side of the Empire State Building, between the 78th and 80th floors, making an 18-by-20-foot (5.5 m × 6.1 m) hole in the building into the offices of the War Relief Services and the National Catholic Welfare Council.
One engine shot through the south side opposite the impact, flew as far as the next block, dropped 900 feet (270 m), landed on the roof of a nearby building and caused a fire that destroyed a penthouse art studio. The other engine and part of the landing gear fell down an elevator shaft. The resulting fire was extinguished in 40 minutes. The Empire State Building fire is the highest structural fire to be brought under control by firefighters.
Between 50 and 60 sightseers were on the 86th floor observation deck when the crash happened. Fourteen people were killed: Colonel Smith, Staff Sergeant Christopher Domitrovich, and Navy Aviation Machinist’s Mate Albert Perna, who was hitching a ride, and eleven civilians in the building. Perna’s body was not found until two days later, when search crews discovered that it had entered an elevator shaft and fallen to the bottom. The other two crewmen were burned beyond recognition. Approximately twenty to twenty-four others were injured as a result of the crash.
Elevator operator Betty Lou Oliver was thrown from her elevator car on the 80th floor and suffered severe burns. First aid workers placed her on another elevator car to transport her to the ground floor, but the cables supporting that elevator had been damaged in the incident, and it fell 75 stories, ending up in the basement.
Oliver survived the fall due to the softening cushion of air created by the falling elevator car within this elevator shaft; however, she had suffered a broken pelvis, back and neck when rescuers found her amongst the rubble. This remains the world record for the longest survived elevator fall.
Aftermath:
Despite the damage and deaths, the building was open for business on many floors on the next Monday morning, less than 48 hours later. After the debris had been cleared away, Armand Hammer purchased the damaged 78th floor, refurbished it, and made it the headquarters of his United Distillers of America.” — Wiki

Unbeknownst to everyone, the right engine of the plane smashed its way through an elevator door and went crashing down the elevator shaft, severing cables as it went. This was the very same shaft of the elevator that Betty Lou Oliver had been put in.
The car and elevator operator plunged 1,000 feet (75 stories) into a sub-basement. The freefall of the elevator was broken by the massive coils of cables that had fallen to the bottom of the shaft. Despite suffering a broken back and legs, the operator survived. She had to be cut from the mangled wreckage.
July 28th was supposed to be her last day on the job. She recovered in less than eight months, and returned to Ft. Smith, AR, with her husband Oscar Lee Oliver. Seems odd that they would put her on an elevator by herself, after being seriously injured from the plane crashing into the building, but I didn’t see any mention of anyone else being in the elevator with her when it dropped 75 stories down an empty elevator shaft.

I recognized “Watertown” from an old Harry Chapin song that I’ve known since I was a kid, but I just checked, and the Watertown in the song is Watertown, NY (not MA).

I had a huge crush on my babysitter when I was about 7 years old, so the song Babysitter always made me smile (didn’t turn out as well for me as it did for the 12 year old boy in the song though 😂 ).
Bummer is a harrowing tale of a Vietnam veteran who is killed in a shootout with police.
Sandy is a beautiful song about his wife.
The Rock is like an intense fable, an amazing song to visualize as a child as he tells the story of a huge boulder perched on the side of a mountain above a town. The central character tries to warn everyone, but no one believes him that the rock is going to fall. One day when he’s examining the rock it begins to fall, and he throws himself under it, trying to stop it. Nobody in the town knows what happened to him, they just thought he was crazy and wandered off.

That was the only album (and songs of Harry’s) I knew besides Cats in the Cradle from the radio, until I was maybe in 7th grade, when I bought his album Greatest Stories Live.
That’s when I first heard A Better Place to Be and Mr. Tanner, Saturday Morning, I Wanna Learn a Love Song, Let Time Go Lightly, W.O.L.D., Circle, 30,000 Pounds of Bananas, and another one of my favorites, Taxi.
So many great songs, and he has more that I haven’t even discovered yet.

Thanks for sharing, Scott. I played his music over and over for years. Absolutely one of the best story tellers. A Better Place To Be is also a great one. Mr Tanner just stuck with me because I grew up with the people around Dayton, OH and could picture this dry cleaner owner singing in his shop. Of course Taxi was the groundbreaker for him. Once you have that one in your head you simply have to follow up with Sequel. Genius.
You should have heard all of us laughing when he did 30,000 Pounds of Bananas. In person it was beyond hilarious, better than the album version because he could play off the audience and would just crack up as he performed it. His brother Tom would also sing the higher, female parts really well in his songs. Tom played a half dozen instruments. He had the Sunday morning children’s TV show, Make A Wish back then. Such talent.
Harry sat on a stool part of the time and just rolled them out one after another. Always etched in my memory. I was so bummed when he passed in that car accident, about as much as I was when Jim Croce passed in that plane crash.
Then there was the Billy Joel concert that was held the same year in our school’s concert series. The Piano Man himself playing it and Captain Jack with all the other hits off his first album.
Memories. Wish that type music would take hold again.

It is far more likely that those making false claims about it being impending right now on account of a simple natural phenomenon are the ones doing the mocking.

Did you know that the “Rapture” is not in the Bible? That is has not been Christian belief since the beginning, but was introduced as a thing in the 1830s by a man named John Nelson Darby?
Here is an example of how out-of-context Scripture perpetuated the idea:
“There are two primary passages where Rapture theology is purported to have emerged: Matthew 24 and 1 Thessalonians 4. Let’s look at Matthew 24:40-41 first. This is a passage people point to and say, “See, look, that’s the Rapture.” Jesus says, “Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.”
The question that must be asked when looking at these verses is this: who is taken and who is left? Is the believer taken or left? If you hold a Rapture view in your head before reading this passage, it is easy to say, “The believer is taken.” But is that what the context of the passage leads us to conclude? Let’s look closer.
Before we get to Matthew 24:40-41, we need to read verses 36-39. Jesus says, “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”
Notice carefully how Jesus teaches. He says nobody will know the day or hour of his return. Then in verse 37 He compares it to the days of Noah. He said the coming of the Son of Man will be like the days of Noah. That’s significant. So we should ask: “In what way?” He tells us. He says in verse 38 that in those days before the flood, people were living their lives like normal. People were eating and drinking. They were getting married. They were just living their lives and going about the course of their days. This is how we are living now. Jesus says the times will be similar when He comes. Now watch what He says in verse 39. The people were unaware of the judgment coming until the flood, and the flood came and swept them all away. Who got swept away in the days of Noah? The unbelievers. The wicked sinners. Who remained when the flood came? Noah and his family. They were left here. The wicked were swept away. Jesus says this is the way it will be when the Son of Man returns.
Okay, so return to the verses often used in support of the rapture, verses 40 and 41. “Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.” Jesus just told us that His coming will be just like the days of Noah. The wicked were taken away, swept away. The righteous remained. Then He says that two men will be in the field, and one will be taken, one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill, and one will be taken away and one left. So I return to the question: “Who is taken and who is left?” I believe the most natural, commonsense answer from the text is the believer is left and the unbeliever is taken away. It is a picture of judgment. They are cast away from the presence of the Lord. The only reason one could read it the opposite and say the believer is taken away and the unbeliever remains, is because that person already has the internal bias of a rapture ideology in his or her head before reading the passage. The entirety of the passage itself and its full context gives no reason to interpret it in that way. Additionally, nowhere in this passage do we read that “taken away” means “disappears.” Again, this is something that has to be inferred into the text because of a preexisting bias that has been imbibed from Rapture theology. The text doesn’t say this.”

The following provides summary information and scripture for most of the views of the rapture end times. Personally, I take no position on it publicly. I do not “know” with certainty. So I stand down and study, leaving it up to Him. I assume you are discussing pre-tribulation and the Darby view that was put forth in the 1800s.

The word “rapture” is not in the Word, just like the word “trinity”. The concept and reality however are discussed. The words of Paul in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 of being caught up or taken away is in line with the word rapture. I Thessalonians 1:10 removes believers prior to the wrath of God that is to come. I Corinthians 15 provides clarity.
It is also found in ancient Latin and Greek texts going back to the 4th century prior to English translations, if the information in the attached link below is correct.

All I am certain of is the resurrection of Jesus ensures my salvation as well as those of all believers. I am good with that.
If you read the whole (admittedly long) article I posted, I Thessalonians is addressed. We meet the Lord in the air, along with the resurrected dead.
But Jesus reigns on the Earth. And I Thessalonians 4:17 says:
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
We will always be with Him, and He will reign on the Earth.
Rev. 21:3 states that God will be among us, in New Jerusalem.

Like you, however, I am not certain of anything except salvation.
I tend to avoid the absolutes of scripture in many areas. As soon as I think I have it right I learn something that indicates I did not. The challenge is our dependence on others to provide their understanding of the original text from Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic within the context of the day and situation each was written. I would never be able to learn those languages at my age, so I am dependent on their interpretations. Since there are multiple doctrinal views who provide evidence of their claims relating to the same scriptures, I have chosen to opt out as I have aged.
Just like the happiness versus joy thing we discussed awhile back. Why go anti happiness when it is frequently a synonym for joy and represents being blessed in Greek and Hebrew? For thousands of years happiness was used until that same period in the 1800’s when the self proclaimed doctrinal experts’ views changed. That people also use the word for the temporary state does not matter, the same applies for the temporary giddiness that joy provides.
I guess I will remain blissfully, temporarily happy in my perceived ignorance.
Scripture is full of surprises . I have heard it say it is the living Bible. Living Word of God, Living Christ.

Similar to my husband & I. Rapture & End Times theology appear to fall into the convictions & opinions aspect of faith rather than an absolute, imo. Jesus substitutionary death & resurrection & being under the Blood is necessary to rescue us from destruction. How God will do that in the fine details of our individual, or collective church, lives is open to interpretation & observation…
However we Think things might go it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if All views are at least partially inaccurate. We want to box God in to the place of complete human understanding & that’s not realistic this side of the veil (now we see through a glass darkly). His thoughts are Much Higher than ours!

I find his choice of words interesting and also inaccurate. He says (emphasis mine):

I have been with people who die and Christ is always present to take them.
A staff person (aide or nurse?) comforted my mom after my grandpa died there in the care facility. Mom was never sure about her dad’s salvation as it wasn’t a topic that was discussed in their less demonstrative Finnish home. Both of my mom’s parents were heavily involved in “good works” in their Lutheran church but didn’t freely discuss issues of faith like my mom did after her come to Jesus encounters at an independent Spirit-Filled church they still attend.
Anyway the staff person said that she had witnessed many deaths or the recently deceased in that nursing facility. The ones who did not know Christ tended to die horribly with gruesome, fearful expressions on their faces. Those who knew the Lord, even if they no longer recognized themselves or loved ones died with such peaceful expressions. This staff was Convinced that my grandpa had died in Christ because of the peacefulness of his passing.
This info provided Great Comfort to my mother & us all, but not to the degree that we wouldn’t have preferred to hear from my grandpa his profession of faith.

I looked youtube. He has a subscribe page for something like 4 dollars and change. That’s the only reason why I think he’d do that. Fair if he’s trying to make some money off his podcasts. To even up the score he has a small series of vids that explain how to do the predictions he does.
Overall I think it’s him providing subscriber content free when it suits him and I still think there is some shadow banning going on there. He is still considered to be controversial as he claims he can forecast earthquakes based of of previous quakes. No one else does this apparently. Always seemed accurate to me. His next test will be NC/SC border with about a 4.0 That’s not an earthquake zone so it will be very telling if it happens within the next week.

The weather forecast tends to be really wacky when your location is near the edge of an (anticipated) front. The predicted front location shifts a few miles,,,and everything within that band gets wildly swinging predictions from one day to the next. It’s a quirk of the data; you’re looking at a point on the map, they’re looking at the front. The front moves a bit (or rather the prediction of the front moves a bit) and the point’s forecast changes a lot.
This damn band of clouds along the path of totality, on the other hand, has been pretty consistent since I started watching it…the only thing is that eagle pass’s forecast got a bit worse.
I’d trust your guesses like Kirk & McCoy would trust Spock’s, in The Voyage Home 😉 😉
