The Myths and Realities of Human/Ape “Similarity” Numbers
If you have ever read or heard something about the genetic similarity of humans and (other) apes, and were suspicious of the numbers – whether you’re a fan or skeptic of evolution – then you were absolutely right to be suspicious.
This video, by an evolutionist who is something of an expert in the topic, will explain WHY you should be suspicious of genetic similarity numbers.
She is able to make this topic understandable, but unfortunately, it can get a bit boring, too. Grab some coffee and maybe some cookies.
The TL;DR is that there are an infinite number of ways to measure similarity, with completely different meanings, and every one has pluses and minuses. The worst thing – the thing that you can’t do – is mixing and matching different measurements. By one standard, 99.5% and 99.2% is a huge difference in similarities, but by a different one, 75% and 65% are almost the same, no big deal. By one standard, 99% similarity means it’s the same species at the same time. By another standard, 99% similarity could be two species that cannot interbreed, and one is a fossil.
Pretty meaningless, if you’re not extremely careful. The numbers change rapidly between methods, as you will see.
I am familiar with this problem, having designed similarity metrics for certain types of searched data at “Shallow State”. What one learns to do is to observe how the metric behaves, and interpret the results based on the metric, NOT based on what you think “100%”, “99%”, “95%”, “75%”, “50%”, and other values, should mean. If the metric works well for your purposes, that’s all you need. If it works perfectly for your most important cases, even better.
The numbers mean what THEY mean, not what YOU THINK they should mean. You will see this in spades, in the video.
Erika uses a “provocative question” about orangutans as a phony but effective way to get people to listen to an introductory lecture on similarity metrics in comparative genomics. If you listen all the way through, you get to hear her joke about this at the end. You also get to hear her excellent perspective about how massive the differences are between humans and (other) apes, in whatever percentage difference a particular metric gives.
And by then, you will be 100% skeptical of similarity numbers without explanation and context.

If we’re going to be talking about the whole Trump / Q / Quantum thing (AND WE ARE!), then it’s important to refresh ourselves on what the heck this “quantum” stuff is, anyway. THAT lesson will be coming soon – maybe later this week.

However, today’s assignment is more fun. All it is, is to watch a video by Veritasium – a fairly easy and fun video – that I MAY have shown you before – probably not, but I can’t be sure.
The video appears to be in the context of relativity, but it’s really about the apparent conflict between quantum mechanics and relativity, and how that was – more or less – resolved.
The great thing about this video is that it actually takes you all the way to the current state of knowledge, and it does it without very much math at all. It’s pretty ingenious.

No, I’m not going to cite some researcher – some MSM publication – some “source”.
I don’t care what Margaret Brennan or Neil DeGrasse Tyson thinks about it. I’m fully prepared to do my own thinking, and (in my opinion) you should, too – whether you trust or believe evolutionary theory, or not.
You don’t need an authority to tell you to believe the obvious. Believe BACK at all authority.
Which is actually – very ironically – what this post is about. It’s WHY evolution favors religious belief – because – OMG – people obviously, by and large, believe, religiously, in God, or something like God.
What I am saying is that the default position of evolution – that “it’s there because it works” must be applied to mankind’s tendency toward religious belief – whether or not we choose to explain it – whether or not we like it.
Evolution’s first position is that it’s there because it works. And if it has been there a long time, even more so.
And by WORKS, we are saying – to varying but non-zero degrees – that it has some kind of advantage over both potential and actual alternatives.
This remarkable trivial truth is what I would classify as a “self-evident truth” – because anybody with common sense can see that evolutionary theory is in a complete paradox and hem-haw disarray otherwise. The obvious and nearly universal human tendency toward religious belief clearly outlasted millions of years of active Darwinian removal of problems. We don’t have to explain why. Science can do so if it chooses, or it can punt the ball. Doesn’t matter to the facts. Those facts simply ARE.
Evolution likes religion. DEAL.
Explanations of the (to them) annoying fact by materialists and atheists tend to try to paint the evolutionary truth into some corner of randomness or error, but that doesn’t even get to first base with me – a diehard evolutionist – and it should not cut it with you. Major features have alternatives, and when those alternatives are absent, or demonstrate obvious problems when they are not absent, it becomes too patently obvious that the existing feature is advantageous, and the alternatives are not.
Evolutionary mistakes are the exception, not the rule, and the longer something is conserved, the more likely it’s not a mistake, but actually favored. We have to look at Occam’s Razor – right? RIGHT? Because watch any evolutionary argument, and that’s what happens. Conservation through “big time” is always considered prima facie evidence of advantage, in evolution. One simply has to do work to find the advantage and convince others WHY.
Or just rest – for the moment – on the truth nobody wants to talk about. Evolution favored religious belief.
Here is the TL;DR –
Religious belief is one of the things that makes you human. Religion may say so, but evolution says so, too.
Religion says “because”. Evolution says “because it’s there”. And what do you know – religious belief is there.
Enjoy it. And don’t bother with external validation, because YOU are the validation. Your eyes, your ears, your brain, and your logic. Most of all, your belief.

Private Messaging – The Role of This Site in Keeping with the Gospel
I had a bit of a revelation today, as I read today’s verse.
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone.”
Matthew 18:15
I feel that this has several levels of impact on this site.
One of those levels is how we criticize people OUTSIDE this blog, in our analysis of the news. I think we are reasonably safe there, because we are generally not well known. If we bring attention to our discussion on X or Gab, that gets a bit trickier, because that is very public. And while it can be very difficult to DM famous people on X, it isn’t hard to drop them a kind word or a courteous critique in the depths of their timeline, knowing that hardly anybody is going to see it. Sadly, however, that “hardly anybody” typically does not include the intended recipient.
Other times, I believe that public critique of public figures is more than permissible – it’s our duty. But where do we draw lines around this? I think that’s a valid question.
I do believe that much of what we say here gets looked at by anonymous “white hats” – and that’s a good thing! So if you think somebody in the administration made an error, and needs counsel, your stated opinion here may actually find its way to them.
Here on the blog, between ourselves, it’s a bit tougher, because our interactions are DESIGNED to be public, and I encourage public communication as a way to keep things honest and “sunlight-disinfected”. Courteous speech allows quite a bit of conflict to be resolved publicly, in a surprisingly low-key way, thankfully.
People here do PM me sometimes using PMTW, but conflicts with other members are – between public crises – surprisingly few. People can always approach each other on Gab, X, or through me as well, although in keeping with the Gospel, it is perhaps better if one approaches another party directly. Sometimes people just sharing a frustration with me fits directly into what the Gospel advises (since I may be the one in need of counsel on doing my duty to resolve a conflict), or it can be a “private” way to get me to hint to another person that there is a problem. No matter what, I strive to do what God would want, as best as I can tell, at all times.
I would love to hear other people’s thoughts on this, ranging from personal experience to theology, and that is why I chose that for today’s topic. Please keep the message of Christ in mind – particularly Matthew 18:15 – as you do this. I am seeking not to drum up conflict, but rather the opposite.

Not my family, this time – another Patriot’s family.
Thank you so much for your prayers. God has answered each and every one of them. He never fails. I’m so grateful for all of you. For over a decade you’ve been my rock, my happy place, my place to de-stress, to speak my mind, to share moments of grief and happiness. I’ll never…
Thank you so much for your prayers. God has answered each and every one of them. He never fails. I’m so grateful for all of you. For over a decade you’ve been my rock, my happy place, my place to de-stress, to speak my mind, to share moments of grief and happiness. I’ll never forget a single moment of it.
Throughout it all, I’ve done my best to give back when I can, to love those who share love with me, to comfort those who need it, and to remain who I am without changing. I hope I’ve given you an ounce of what you’ve given me.
My account will remain here, but I will not be active for quite some time. I realize that this doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. It only passes time. What’s important are my children, the family I’ve created from nothing, and the relationships we’re all building with God. My children are my goals. My children are my dreams. I have everything I could ever want right in front of me and I refuse to miss a single moment of it.
Too many times I’ve missed out on quality time because something horrible or significant politically is happening. I’m done. So it is time. I love you all. Please, take good care of yourselves and your loved ones because you never know when it could all go away.
Chill, as she is known – or chillum, Chillinois, etc. – used to be one of the supreme “second level” Twitter warriors. She wasn’t often the source of new information, but she was often the first to amplify great stuff. She always had loads of common sense, which goes well with bravery, concern, and her other virtues.
She is scrappy and humorous. She cracked me up so many times.
Many times she had access to powerful confirming or validating information when it was needed. She was not afraid to hit the trail of a story in Chicago like a gumshoe, and report back to Twitter. Her account was always a hoot, and frequently on the leading edge of a chase.
As the years went by, she needed to back off more and more for family reasons, but she has remained on X nonetheless.
Now, it appears that she really needs to pay attention to family matters.
I can respect that.
I encourage everybody to strike a balance, and to let that balance shift as needed.
We will remain on duty here, helping to protect family life in a GREAT AMERICA. You can also do your duty to this country by simply HAVING a great family life in America.

Looking Forward
This will be my last post of “the prior styles” as we move forward from the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of this great nation.
Trump will have a big announcement tonight – let’s see what it is!
In the meanwhile, I have some announcements. Some of them will be tonight. Some will follow the announcements by our CIC. Our POTUS. Our TRUMP.
I will be changing the style of my opens on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. What that style will be, I’m not quite sure yet. The style WILL be shorter and more current in topic. It will often surround a single idea. It may have elements of homage to older styles, or I may do completely novel things. It will be more of a surprise. In some ways, it will likely go back to the style of my very first posts, like this one – THE very first post.
If one or two of you wish to join me, I am willing to hand off one or two of these opens to others. Otherwise, I will do all three of them myself.
If I miss an open, meaning I have not created one by noon of that day, then I am counting on others to create one for me, in my absence. As I said, wait until noon.
We may have small changes in mission, as we go forward, but they will not be fundamental.

There is a chance it could go th the Supreme Court but the scary part is the Supreme Court could vote either way.
So the idea is if we want the Save America Act to secure the midterm elections, it is just improbable. It is not going to happen. This means Trump most likely does not want the Save America Act to happen.
Now Reconciliation 3.0 is the National Defense Authorization Act. Now why is this crazy. Because Trump has come out and made a declaration. “I will sign ZERO bills until the Save America Act is passed.” I think he has 90 days before he has to send them back.
So now we have the National Defense Authorization Act coming up. Sp what else is in the the National Defense Authorization Act?
You remember last week all the talk about the various different sections? One section where there is a convergence of Israel and the US military complex. Where there is information sharing, technology sharing of inovation thru the 2 military industrial complexes on the commecial viability side. And there is a merging of US and Israeli intelligence in the middle east. Those 2 things are in the National Defense Authorization Act.
Did Donald Trump just squash the National Defense Authorization Act by attaching the Save America Act to it by saying I’m not going to sign it unless this bill actually gets passed?
Here is my theory, I think John Thune is intentionally not bringing it up because Trump ordered him not to. We are going to act like we really want to get this passed by we really do not want to. Why?

DNI Poulti inherited DNI Gabbard’s task force on election integrity & infrastructure. We are waiting for a report to come out on that. I think John Solomon [an excellent journalist] is actually coming in to help finalize that report with other types of declassified information. And where did they get these declassified files from? A lot of these are coming from the quote unquote burn bags that were found in the SCIFs of the FBI building that were set to be destroyed but never were. In other words it was the military that had it all along and somehow injected it.
How do you enter evidence legally? [Q quote] You put someone in the military in DNI who can find and retrieve these records where ever the military put them and then bring them out thru points of declassification.

And I think Poulti is going to be the one who is going to release this information pertaining to the 2020 election fraud. And that is going to show that a foreign adversary was definitely involved. Probably a few different ones. I think you’re going to see Great Britain, Ukraine, China, Cuba [Karen Bass?] Venezuala Iran, all involved in stealing the 2020 election, as well as the mail-in ballot scheme.
And this is where it gets really really interesting, Alpha with the conversations that Donald Trump is bringing about. The last week he has been seeding the narrative against Communists. Commie, Comie, he is talking about Communists all the time. I get that communists may have just won. In Washington DC you have a gun bomb. Mandummi in NY, but what I also want to point people to. Go with the constructed narrative.Both sides construct the narrative and they seed that narrative along the way.
This is one of the ways that I have become incredibly accurate with what I do.

Well basically Joe is investigating the Grand Conspiracy, the RICO investigation. That began in 2015. He talked about this and said it began actually in Las Vegas. So we know they are looking into that part.

DNI Tulsi Gabbard released the classified email between Lenny Bonardo of the Open Society Foundations and another executive director at the Open Society Foundations, talking about Julianne Smith who is Hilary Clinton’s foreign campaign manager or foreign affairs campaign manager and how Julianne Smith had gotten back to him and confirmed that HRC was going to move forward with the Russian compromised story on Donald Trump but they did not have the evidence. But they said do not worry we will get it thru our verious different partners of ThreatConnect and Crowd Strike, which I found kinda interesting. So that was Open Society foundation. They enter on stage left right there early on 2016. This is pre-primaries, pre-election.

Why did Crowdstrike a DNC IT company have a server in Burisma?
Burisma from circa 2014 was one of the heads for Human trafficking, arms trafficking, Money laundering for that region. [I wonder if this is where Justice Roberts adopted kids came from? They were supposedly Russia. -GC]
The server was a proxy server doing all the messing with the Alpha Bank server to compromise Trump. Second it was running Hammer and Scorecard which was meant to steal the 2016 election for Hilary.
Why was the server in Burisma? Because it was very close to the Russian border so you could spoof Russian addresses. Remember Thomas Speciali, saying the pings APPEARED to be from Russia? However someone shut them down. Josh thinks it was Russia and really pissed off the Deep State.

It was almost like Trump let it happen because of what is going to happen now with all this information comming out. When you look back at it it makes complete sense. At the same time Soros, father & son and Bill Gates were investing in different types of companies.
Hunter Biden’s company Rosemont Senaca invested in Metabiota a Disaster and pandemic preparedness company in 2014. (In eastern Ukraine) In 2018 & 19 & 20, Soros & Gates join collaborative efforts and start investing in zoological virus research companies investigating how to detect them if they spread to humans. Such viruses were not around in 2018 & 2019. So that right there is the prerequisite for everything that we are going to see with Joe DeGeneva.

I have been grateful for the opportunity Wolf provided to express my thoughts about past experiences, interests, people, our nation, Christianity, history, politics, business, health and so on. It has been chicken soup, therapeutic, for my soul. To all who spent your time reading and contributing your thoughts – thank you! It is encouraging to authors to know others are willing to spend time considering the subjects and presentations. Please continue to do so with all authors and supporting the efforts of Wolf. I have been humbled and learned much from all QTree members within our community. Being here has led to a better life for me and my family. Besides that, it is just a great place to hang out!
I am not going anywhere. I will still be reading and posting on threads many days. This place of online friends that Wolf has provided means a great deal to me. I just need more time to do other things of importance at home and in the community.
Life Lessons Learned
My mission here is complete for now. My assignment was to help others. That’s it. In so doing I relearned an important lesson that is really important for all of us if we are willing to consider it.
Luke 2:46
After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. (ESV)
Regardless of His age, why would the Son of God spend His limited, precious time on earth sitting with the religious teachers of the stubborn, defeated people God chose to bring a light into the world; much less listen and ask them questions? He obviously knew far more than they did. Other Biblical text goes on to say that the religious teachers and others who were present were amazed at His understanding and wisdom as a child.
Some folks suggest it was His status as being both a young human and God and that may be part of it. It seems more likely to me that He was doing what better teachers do; listening and engaging to develop relationships and understanding with those around Him; building credibility of sorts. From that “lesser” position He might have hoped to influence their thoughts and beliefs by asking questions that had the benefit of guiding the participants.
Which led me to,
Proverbs 20:5
The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw itout. (ESV)
Most people keep their innermost thoughts and beliefs to themselves. It takes a person with a sincere desire to listen to understand and care to bring them out of that tightly guarded place. Coincidently, that is Habit #5 in the late Stephen Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” – Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood.
In a sense, all of the 7 Habits that Covey provided are Biblically inspired and supported in my opinion. They also work well in this life in many applications. I personally benefitted because I bought into them at one of the lowest periods in my life at 40 years of age. I saw the parallels with them and The Word… and sold out. I felt the contents of that book and subsequent training was provided for me personally as I was retooling spiritually as well as in my career.
Everything changed for the better. I learned I really needed to listen and care about what others thought and had to say, not just give it lip service. I needed to ask more questions and truly listen instead of being self centered and bull headed in my positions. The Lord used this changed attitude and approach to improve my ability to separate the wheat from the chaff as well as when to linger and when to depart in relationships. He imparted more of His understanding, wisdom and discernment. He obviously knew I badly needed it because I was a flat zero in that regard up to that point in my life. From there I learned to help others by asking leading questions for their thoughts instead of “telling” others what they “should” do, say or think. It helped my career blossom. It changed me spiritually and hopefully made me a better husband, father and friend.
I AM
This awakening led to acceptance deep within my being; not just of the words I read on pages from an old collection of books that some non-believers call fables. We know that the Hebrew term of YHWH is synonymous with I AM WHO I AM, which was stated by God Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14. Knowing that led me to the following. All scripture from this point on will be in the King’s English (KJV) some readers prefer.
John 8:58
Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
I learned the truth that Jesus really is God come to earth. He is The Word as The Word states. It became time for me to personally and spiritually mature in my own life before I could help others better understand who He is; which is The Way, The Truth, and The Life stated later in John 14:6. He stated in that scripture that He is the only path to God the Father.
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Well, there it is again.
This opens it up to the next leading question. Do you want to live eternally with a gracious, loving God in heaven? Jesus taught all of us how. However, that came after He listened to mankind first. Then He would ask leading questions; the ones you read throughout the New Testament of the Holy Bible. The answers led to the key truths of our existence. Yet, many miss those two little words of identification that provide His full authority as God. To fully understand it you need to know deep within you the meaning of Peter’s response. From Matthew 15:15-16,
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And once again…I am.
That was a leading question from the Creator and Savior of the universe that led to the equally great understanding and acknowledgement of who He is as well as the standing of Peter (us).
To conclude these observations, there is this from the back of The Book – Revelation 1:8,
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
You either believe Jesus or you do not. If you do not, just know that you do not receive the benefits of the relationship without the acknowledgement and acceptance of the forever binding contract (covenant) with YHWH that provides release from this earthly prison when you breathe your last breath. You get what you get for as long as you are here. If you do believe and accept Him, the great part is you pay nothing when you sign on. It is free and it provides the immediate release from your bondage to your personal screw ups and death. He paid the cost of entry for you.
My Next Assignment
I will be continuing to help homeschool Grandson #1 and it is likely that Grandson #2 will be coming online with that route later this year. Another primary reason is the Lord has placed on my heart to prepare for a deeper dive into The Word as I respond to His call to mentor and teach in our church. We are in the midst of a building project that is designed to specifically house our rapidly growing children and youth ministries. Upon completion, one aspect of it will lead to Christian homeschooling support groups for children of local families as well as an expanded Parents Day Out program.
Reengaging my desire and ability to employ Habit #5 will not only serve the children and youth better in this initiative of the church; it will be of major benefit to time starved working parents, grandparents and guardians. Once the trust and credibility is built, I hope to help in whatever way the Lord directs my path. Daughter has already signed on to do her part as a Pre-K teacher, which she currently does at another church.
It has not been lost on me that I did not have access to any of this type assistance as a young person. This lack of availability and access proved detrimental to my life into adulthood as well as to others around me with whom I interacted. I want far better for our kids, to give them a leg up in a challenging, sometimes difficult world in which live.
But, there is more. There is a SBC church that has been dying that is located between three thriving SBC churches within a five mile radius. The dying church has a good facility that at one time housed the largest congregation in our area. However, the church leaders during those days felt they needed to build a new, even larger facility on a more accessible major highway nearby. Their congregation was outgrowing the old facility. Once completed the majority of the congregation left for the new location while about 150 stayed. Those who left were proven accurate in their prediction and the new location now has about 2000 members and is still growing strongly. It also provides a playground, soccer fields, and walking trail that our entire community utilizes.
Over the decades that followed the membership that stayed at the former location has slowly dwindled to the point it became difficult to retain even a part time pastor. Today, there are only 11 members in the church that once had over 500. Part of the decline has been due to the strong success of the other three churches. Part is due to a lack of leadership and direction within its congregation. It is a sad situation for us personally as it was in that church that Daughter accepted Christ as her Savior as a young girl visiting their Vacation Bible School. She was baptized there a few weeks later. It was the only VBS she ever attended at a different church or denomination than our former UMC location.
Our three Senior Pastors and church leaders are focused on building the kingdom for Christ, not personal careers and preferences. As a result we will be in partnership together as we commit financial resources, staffing and congregational support to the troubled church. An energetic pastor who has been a local resident for over twenty years has stepped forward and assumed the role. A number of current members in each of our three thriving congregations will be moving to the subject church to seed its revival and ministry into our community, reaching more people for Christ. The intention is to serve the restarted church for six months to a year before returning to home churches as desired.
Our church leaders listened first to understand. They responded to the need as Jesus instructed all of us to do.
Somewhere in there is where the Lord will likely be leading us to serve. Whether it be to help build the children and youth homeschooling ministries where we are, or, charting a new path to the reseeded church. We will listen first and respond as Isaiah did in 6:8,
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” (ESV)
YHWH has a plan. I need more time to prepare for my role in whatever it is as well as be a good husband, dad, papaw and patriot. I will end this series with this simple statement and question asked by Abraham in Genesis 18:25,
That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
