WHAT? How can this be? With all that’s going wrong in our country and in the world at this time, we’re supposed to feel happy? What type of naïve fools do you think we are, anyway?

Quite possibly, the most frequently used word in the Christian’s vocabulary is blessed. “Have a blessed day,” “blessed to be a blessing,” and “God bless you” are just a few of the ways we put it to use. It’s even common among unbelievers to describe themselves as “blessed.” Some people think of blessed as a spiritual term for “good fortune,” like when we receive something good, the desired outcome, or an exceptional comfort. But what does it really mean to be blessed?
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was “blessed among women” (Luke 1:42–45, 48), it was the Lord God who had blessed and favored her.
While material blessings are certainly included in God’s favor, the Bible ascribes a much fuller meaning to the word blessed.
Perhaps the most well-known use of the word blessed in the Bible is found in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3–12; Luke 6:20–23). Jesus used the term blessed in the framework of the Beatitudes to describe the inner quality of a faithful servant of God. This blessedness is a spiritual state of well-being and prosperity—a deep, joy-filled contentment that cannot be shaken by poverty, grief, famine, persecution, war, or any other trial or tragedy we face in life. In human terms, the situations depicted in the Beatitudes are far from blessings, but because God is present with us through these difficult times, we are actually blessed by Him in them.
The true servant of God is blessed, regardless of circumstances, because God has favored him or her with a fully satisfied soul (Psalm 63:1–5; John 4:14). The material things we crave can never bring genuine happiness or contentment. True fulfillment can only be found in a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1–2).
From the time God first created humans, He blessed them (Genesis 1:22; 5:2; 12:3) and has continued to do so throughout history (Genesis 26:3; Deuteronomy 7:13; Job 42:12; Judges 13:24). Because of Christ’s work of redemption on the cross, we can now receive the full blessings of God through faith in Him: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). We are blessed because our sins are forgiven and can no longer be counted against us (Psalm 32:1–2).
The Bible measures blessedness differently from how people of the world measure it: “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him” (James 1:12). To those who rest in God, He grants an inner state of joy that is unaffected by external trials. What is this promised “crown of life?” It is the never-ending, victorious life in the world to come, where all trials will be ended. The marvelous blessings we experience now are minor compared to the benefits God has stored up for us in His eternal kingdom (1 Corinthians 2:9).
The one who is blessed trusts in God’s love, no matter what: “Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? . . . No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:35–39, NLT).
Blessed speaks of our inner state of well-being, the prosperity of our souls in Christ. Blessedness comes from unhindered fellowship with God the Father through our Lord Jesus. To be blessed is to experience the full impact of God’s presence in our lives now and for all eternity.

When we renovated our kitchen, one side had the main sink and the main working countertop…..so we made it 3-1/2 inches deeper front to back.
Got it from a kitchen design thing, and it is the most amazingly wonderful customization.
It works extremely well with undermount sink and granite countertops to be the three biggest recommendations.

In case the 3-1/2 inches seems random — you can mount the bottom cabinets one 2×4 away from the wall. It seems like you’d be losing space, but it’s not really usable space. We also did drawers for all lower cabinets, which makes space much more usable.

fwiw one of my sons was born w/ “ambiguous genitalia, presumably male”. He had severe hypospadias, with the urethral opening at the body cavity, a “bifid scrotum” (looked sort of like labia), & bilateral inguinal hernias that would turn his scrotum a bulging purple/red when he was crying during diaper changes before surgical repair. He’s had 4 stages of hypospadias repair, most in early childhood, & the hernias also repaired with a mesh while an infant. He has at least one known internal urogenital defect, one vas deferens is 1/4 of the normal size, or it was as an infant. Actually whenever he’s needed to have a catheter they often have to call in a urological specialist familiar with his case to get the catheter into the bladder as there is some internal dead end road that the catheter often wants to go into instead of the bladder…sigh…
They did genetic karyotype testing shortly after birth to determine he was XY so it was confirmed that he was in fact male. I don’t recall any discussions of the adrenal gland issues so don’t know if that was ever explored…
Some years later I discovered an article somewhere claiming that infants w/ a “micro-penis” (& my son had the bulk of the “erectile tissue” contained within the abdominal cavity before one or more of his hypospadias repair surgeries) were often recommended to the parents to raise them as females. I was absolutely outraged & thankful we never encountered doctors who tried to get us to raise our son as a daughter!!! He is 100% male regardless of any lingering genital/structural challenges he may continue to face….
From reading your comment but not diving in on the links it sounds like some of those families may have been counseled to raise their sons as daughters, like that article suggested from like 20 years ago. If that’s the case that’s pretty disturbing…

Biblically, the day of Passover is calculated using the Jewish calendar, which is based on the sighting of the new moon in Jerusalem. So this year, Passover is supposed to be on April 4th, using that reckoning.
Since that sighting can’t be planned in advance, I guess, the dates for Passover are decided in advance, using the more traditional calendar. But at my small fellowship, we are celebrating Passover on the evening of the 4th.

Two nights ago I noticed the moon was waxing gibbous, which means the next new moon is over two weeks away.
Looking it up confirms…Almost full on the 4th, should be full on the 6th.
Unless there’s some sort of offset from the new moon involved in the definition, something ain’t right here.
It’s counted from the date when the last new moon was sighted. So that was a couple of weeks ago now. The Jewish month begins on the new moon. Passover is celebrated in the early spring, from the 15th through the 22nd of the Hebrew month of Nissan.
OK…so an offset. Cool.
It does mean, in cases where you can’t quite be sure beforehand which actual day the new moon will be sighted, that you do get some advance warning. “Did they see it today?” “Yes.” “Passover in two weeks then.” or if “No” then Passover will likely be two weeks from tomorrow.
The Islamic calendar has a similar issue; sometimes you can’t tell in advance when the next month will start.

That “leash” concept is still in consideration in my world when there are still places that refuse the public access to facilities “due to covid” in my state. My daughter-in-law, who is developmentally disabled & has colitis, used to ride with her mother & they brought a bucket & trash bag in case she needed to go & no one would let her use facilities. Sometimes they did that out behind a dumpster!

I cleaned restrooms for two extended periods. The first was at a large insurance company in a cosmopolitan city. The second was at a multi-storied restaurant/bar in Buffalo.
I have up close and personal experience. What I KNOW about my two separate but amazingly similar experiences, experiences in two different states and two different cultural environments, may have been a coincidence. Maybe there was/is no similar circumstance anywhere else. But I know what I saw.
When it comes to public restrooms, women are pigs. (Were?). The details are too revolting to disclose, but things never changed from day to day, or week to week. The mess was not a rare thing.
In contrast, men’s restrooms were almost always easy to clean. Men took better care of the public facility. Even in the restaurant/ginmill.
I used to wonder why this was so. Never have come up with a definitive answer.
But I have had one theory which may or may not be so, and it is based on my more common observations in other situations.
Here it is. Women know someone is paid to do the clean up, and they are indifferent to how hard that person needs to work, or how disgusting the job may be. Men, on the other hand, put themselves in the position of the hireling, and try to avoid making the job harder than it needs to be.
I see this phenomenon in other contexts. Take supermarkets for instance.
I could be wrong, I know, but it seems to me if a woman has decided she does not want a product, she will put it on the nearest shelf. If a man does not want a product, he will return it to the place he got it. The difference being the attitude toward the hireling whose job is to put products back to where they belong.
Or shopping carts, using the same principle. I see far more men than women putting the carts into their corrals. Saves the poor guy hired to do that from running all over the place.
In general, IMO men have a very distorted reputation, but I realize this is not a matter of precise calculation.
Excellent observations and I share them all.
I even move the carts into better stacking in the corrals in the parking lots to provide more room.
My wife always wondered why I stacked the plates, added the flatware and moved everything closer to the aisle in a restaurant after our meal. I told her it would help the server to clear and clean the table for the next guests The servers appreciate it and the next time they serve you most remember you as a valued customer, so they take care of your needs well.
She watched it play out for awhile and agrees whole heartedly now. She remembered she was a server in high school to help her family make ends meet and how much she would have appreciated it.
So many little things add up to big things.

Generalizing, I know, but the guys I know are good tippers, and in my experience most men (there ARE exceptions) tip well. Meanwhile (generalizing) women quibble over tips, and ALL my male friends talk about how their wives always need to question the amount of the tip.
Wifey and I have been over that one multiple times. I want the servers who try hard to stick with it. Selfish motive as well as more honorable. So, even if its not the best service, just average and they tried hard, I leave a good tip while she wants me to cut it to send a message.
If the tips aren’t enough to keep them in the job and getting better, they just have to hire another wannabe to train up when the other one quits. The qualifiers for me are trying hard with a good attitude.
Make some room in your condemnation category for people with disabilities. The cart corrals are often located far from the handicapped spaces which is a punishment for those of us with rebellious knees. Arthritis makes bending over [to pick something up] quite painful. I wish I had sufficient funds to patronize restaurants so stacking the dishes is not an issue for me.

So irritated by having to check and bag the groceries myself, pay ten cents per bag, I find a little joy in leaving the cart as far away as possible. I don’t get a discount for doing the work so somebody should get job security. Or the homeless could have some new wheels.
LOL! I hate doing self check at the store & will choose the cashier Every Time, if it’s an option. When it’s All self-check I end up needing assistance usually several times before finishing up the annoying shopping experience…sigh…

Her answer was the reason for the disparity in restroom cleanliness is the hover effect that females use to not come into contact with said seat. And the fact they can’t aim like males…….. She said most all female restrooms were pretty disgusting.
😉 Those explanations may be true as far as they go, but they certainly do not cover every revolting circumstance, nor do they excuse not cleaning up after yourself. Are their bathrooms at home as disgusting for the same reasons?
Bathrooms I visit when on the road are clean. Never was is a dirty bathroom. Where I go they have toilet paper seat cover .
I have no idea where the disgusting bathrooms are and I am fussy that is why I clean my bathroom every day dirty or not.

My hubby was a lifeguard for a few summers & he said that the women’s restrooms were Always much worse than the men’s…in Oklahoma in the ’80’s.
I know of some women who never wanted their skin to touch the toilet seat so they would squat above the toilet & this likely caused way more misfiring than those who chose to sit. One would hope that those seat covers, when provided, would reduce the over-splash issue to some degree.
Your insights about differences in male & female behavior are interesting. I almost always put the shopping cart in the corral, & often bring a parking lot cart into the store with me at the beginning of a shopping trip too, fwiw. & when returning the cart have considered the plight of the hireling. When those cart gathering guys are in the parking lot I will ask them if they want me to give them the cart or put it in the corral & they almost always want it sent their way…

If not, then why not put the child in the car seat, and lock the doors to the car (with the windows cracked if it’s hot out, and it’s going to take her half an hour) while she returns the cart to the corral?
If not that, why not put the child in the car, put a rope around the rear bumper and tie the other end of the rope to the cart, and tow the cart back to the corral with the child safely in the car with her?

But people here are discussing why women are apparently (and on the whole but not always) the sorts who leave sloppy restrooms behind and don’t put carts away) and that was an offered reason I saw once (though it wasn’t in the context of “why do women…?” but rather “why are there so many inconsiderate slobs out there…?” discussions).
I knew it wasn’t logical; I had the same thoughts you did and one additional one: The whole child abduction thing is hugely overblown by media hype; most such abductions are by the non-constodial parent of a divorced couple. If Ms. Dumbbitch isn’t divorced, she has no worries. It used to be if you were living in Ohio and some kid got kidnapped in Arkansas, you didn’t hear about it so abductions seemed rare; now you do so they seem common.
Sadly, in the world we live in that’s not exactly outside the realm of possibility 🙁
That is a fear factor. Often I take the cart back to the store when I see someone with kids trying to navigate taking the cart back. The worse ore young women and young guys concerning the cards. If we see a cart just sitting in the parking lot we take it .

When I was in college, I had friends who worked in the bars (also, some people who worked in the bars became friends), and they always complained about how disgusting the women’s restrooms were.
We would look at the girls we were with for confirmation, and they always agreed 😂
I always figured it was because women couldn’t see what they were aiming for, much less aim very accurately.
Did you ever figure out why they always had to go in pairs, like they were part of a SWAT team?
I guessed that one held the other’s outstretched arms to help with the hover maneuver, thinking balance was often compromised when drinking.
But when I learned that they frequently couldn’t hit the inside of a toilet bowl, even when using the buddy-system, I figured maybe they both had lost their balance in the cramped space of the bathroom stall, leading to all sorts of slapstick comedy.
Or maybe one was needed to act as a spotter, like on a sniper team, where the sniper fires off a test shot, and the spotter checks to see by how much the target was missed (e.g., “You’re high and to the right by 6 inches”), to help the shooter zero in on the target.
Or maybe they were having urgent discussions on important topics like world peace, the way the beauty pageant girls always talk during the ‘tell us about your interests‘ portion (a.k.a. the honesty phase) of the contests.
Or mebbe they just wanted to talk about us behind our backs 😁
There were certain items of a sanguinary nature which belong in a metal box, but were just dropped anywhere. Aim was not the issue in that circumstance.

I am sick to death of having to walk a considerable distance when my back is hurting. However I NEVER park near the store because of the size of my vehicles.
Most parking lots have the corrals within the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the lot but NOTHING in the rest.
And yes I usually put them away.

God’s work is strong and perfect and will never collapse. So I would pull all the threads for which no authority in God’s Word can be found, and whatever is left, is Christianity the way God designed it.
And I would do that for at least several reasons:
1) Christianity is God’s plan of salvation, He is the Author of that plan, and being perfect, He did not forget anything, so there is nothing that even He would add to it.
2) no man has any authority to add to, or subtract from, God’s Word. Whatever a man might add, no matter how well meaning, would be a corruption, by definition.
3) even if man did have authority to add to or subtract from God’s Word — which he does not — what could any man possibly do, to improve upon the work of God, and His plan of salvation?

It’s laughable, but I’ve been surprised at the number of challengers Trump has. Instead of uniting behind the person who has done the most and has shown what he can do and what the country is capable of, they want to defeat him.
