Passover Reflections

This very special PASSOVER REFLECTIONS thread
honors the ancient tradition
of commemorating the deliverance of the Jewish people
from slavery in Egypt.

Pesach (Passover) is April 19 – April 27, 2019

Passover Reflections

21-22 Moses assembled all the elders of Israel. He said, “Select a lamb for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb. Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the bowl of blood and smear it on the lintel and on the two doorposts. No one is to leave the house until morning. God will pass through to strike Egypt down.

23 When he sees the blood on the lintel and the two doorposts, God will pass over the doorway; he won’t let the destroyer enter your house to strike you down with ruin.

24-27 “Keep this word. It’s the law for you and your children, forever. When you enter the land which God will give you as he promised, keep doing this. And when your children say to you, ‘Why are we doing this?’ tell them: ‘It’s the Passover-sacrifice to God who passed over the homes of the Israelites in Egypt when he hit Egypt with death but rescued us.’”

The people bowed and worshiped.

Exodus 12:21-27

28 The Israelites then went and did what God had commanded Moses and Aaron. They did it all.

29 At midnight God struck every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sits on his throne, right down to the firstborn of the prisoner locked up in jail. Also the firstborn of the animals.

30 Pharaoh got up that night, he and all his servants and everyone else in Egypt—what wild wailing and lament in Egypt! There wasn’t a house in which someone wasn’t dead.

31-32 Pharaoh called in Moses and Aaron that very night and said, “Get out of here and be done with you—you and your Israelites! Go worship God on your own terms. And yes, take your sheep and cattle as you’ve insisted, but go. And bless me.”

33 The Egyptians couldn’t wait to get rid of them; they pushed them to hurry up, saying, “We’re all as good as dead.”

34-36 The people grabbed their bread dough before it had risen, bundled their bread bowls in their cloaks and threw them over their shoulders. The Israelites had already done what Moses had told them; they had asked the Egyptians for silver and gold things and clothing. God saw to it that the Egyptians liked the people and so readily gave them what they asked for. Oh yes! They picked those Egyptians clean.

37-39 The Israelites moved on from Rameses to Succoth, about 600,000 on foot, besides their dependents. There was also a crowd of riffraff tagging along, not to mention the large flocks and herds of livestock. They baked unraised cakes with the bread dough they had brought out of Egypt; it hadn’t raised—they’d been rushed out of Egypt and hadn’t time to fix food for the journey.

Think’s Thoughts

Here’s my quick sum-up of the Pesach (Passover) event, also called the Festival of Liberation…

The descendants of Abraham had been in slavery for a long time, but lately it had become over the top oppressive. The current Pharaoh of Egypt was on a power trip and wanted to crush them. God gives Moses a plan that nobody liked, including Moses. But they somehow find the grace to obediently follow the plan. When they do, God moves against the many dark powers of Egypt, crushes the will of the Pharaoh and the Egyptians, AND THEN has these former slaves PLUNDER the Egyptian households for all their valuables before walking out of their prison camp situation.

Now that is festival-worthy liberation! Moses is instructed to have the Israelites celebrate their remembrance of this glorious deliverance every year, on the 10th day of their first month, down through the generations.

23 Then Israel entered Egypt;
    Jacob resided as a foreigner in the land of Ham.
24 The Lord made his people very fruitful;
    he made them too numerous for their foes,
25 whose hearts he turned to hate his people,
    to conspire against his servants.
26 He sent Moses his servant,
    and Aaron, whom he had chosen.
27 They performed his signs among them,
    his wonders in the land of Ham.
28 He sent darkness and made the land dark—
    for had they not rebelled against his words?
29 He turned their waters into blood,
    causing their fish to die.
30 Their land teemed with frogs,
    which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers.
31 He spoke, and there came swarms of flies,
    and gnats throughout their country.
32 He turned their rain into hail,
    with lightning throughout their land;
33 he struck down their vines and fig trees
    and shattered the trees of their country.
34 He spoke, and the locusts came,
    grasshoppers without number;
35 they ate up every green thing in their land,
    ate up the produce of their soil.
36 Then he struck down all the firstborn in their land,
    the firstfruits of all their manhood.
37 He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold,
    and from among their tribes no one faltered.
38 Egypt was glad when they left,
    because dread of Israel had fallen on them.

Will justice pass over the Angry Democrats and their ilk?
It sure doesn’t appear likely. What kind of plagues should befall them in the 21st century?
No matter what happens, many of them will find the Lord.
Happy Easter everyone. He lives!!!

GA/FL

From the Liturgy in the Book of Common Prayer:
“For in the night in which Jesus was betrayed, he took bread;
and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave it to his
disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is my Body, which is given
for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
Likewise, after supper, he took the cup; and when he had
given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink ye all of this;
for this is my Blood of the New Testament, which is shed for
you, and for many, for the remission of sins. Do this, as oft as
ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us;
Therefore let us keep the feast.

O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world,
have mercy upon us.
O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world,
have mercy upon us.
O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world,
grant us thy peace.

Almighty and everliving God, we most heartily thank thee
for that thou dost feed us, in these holy mysteries, with the
spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of thy
Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and dost assure us thereby of
thy favor and goodness towards us; and that we are very
members incorporate in the mystical body of thy Son, the
blessed company of all faithful people; and are also heirs,
through hope, of thy everlasting kingdom. And we humbly
beseech thee, O heavenly Father, so to assist us with thy
grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do
all such good works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with thee and the
Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, world without end.
Amen.

Amen!

T3, thank you (and everyone) for helping to make this one of the most beautiful Easter Weeks ever!!! There were no denominations this week! We were all lovers of The Lamb!!
I especially loved your Passover verses and the version you used. The “riff raff” who straggled along with the children of Israel! They were able go with them because the blood of the lamb covered them all!!

Thank you Think*3 and Ga/FL for the Scriptures. We used them for our family’s Passover Celebration this afternoon/evening. What a blessing they were as we remember Yeshua, YHVH’s Lamb who takes away the sins of the world. John 1:29-34 and 1 Corinthians 12:5-8 Blessings our fellow Qtreepers.
We received a letter from a man with whom our son shared a living unit. He thanked us for our son and the Light he had brought to his fellow inmates. The man shared that they had many good discussions about the Scriptures and the upcoming Passover Celebration, Yeshua, and the future of a believer in Yeshua, our soon coming King! That was the best blessing! It affirms that our son has absorbed the Word, walks his talk, and talks the talk. Praise YAH, HalleluYah!
May the power of the Resurrection be at work in your lives fellow Qtreepers. Prayers for our VSGPDJT, his family, his cabinet, the Q patriots, and the operating forces on the front lines.

kalbren2r1

Your welcome! The Qtree is a wonderland of support and encouragement! Thank you for being part of it.
