The word “exonerate” is being misused here. In the legal system, it is black-letter law that one cannot prove innocence and the 5th says no can do.
If someone is fraudulently convicted, and it is later shown, that person must show actual innocence (not possible or probable but actual) in order to be EXONERATED and the judgment reversed/voided. If the defendant cannot show actual innocence, then the conviction can be challenged on due process grounds.
If a fundamental violation is shown that affected the verdict, then the judgment is vacated and sent back to trial court for re-trial. Exoneration is essentially a type of successful habeas action. Predicate is that there must have already been a trial and conviction.
Presumed innocence is a citizen’s routine condition. Prejudiced makes people misue words like exoneration.

YW. Ironically, the statement with the phrase “not exonerated” is technically accurate while being wildly misleading. It is true that DJT is not exonerated but that is only because he was never charged convicted and then reversed.
I think both Mueller and Barr used the phrase to “bait” people but each one had a different reason and purpose. Mueller wanted people to misunderstand the word and Barr wanted people to pay close attention to the ongoing review of the report due to anger at having a cloud over the president.

Reputations of peripheral players who were not involved
Was anything said about redacting material due to executive privilege? I’m wondering if that might fall under one of the other categories.
I didn’t watch but I just finished reading the comments. Somewhere upthread someone mentions Barr being asked about executive privilege. Barr said PDJT has left that up to him to decide. I gather the congress creep didn’t like the response and there was some whining and sniveling.
