Focus on Christ

[The following applies even more so, as our current Bidenazi administration is literally hell-bent on destroying our rights, our liberty, our justice, our faith, and either disabling or brainwashing our citizens.]
In our fast-paced, attention-grabbing world, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind, get distracted, and lose sight of our true purpose in life—the worship and love of God (see Matthew 22:37). Yet we’re told to run our race with our eyes focused on Christ: “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1–2). How can we resist the allure of the world and keep our focus where it belongs, on Christ?
To focus is to direct one’s attention or concentrate on something. If we are focused on Christ, then He has our attention; we are concentrating on Him and His word; He occupies the forefront of our minds. Such a focus is only fitting, because Jesus “is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy” (Colossians 1:18). By rights, He should be our focus.
Colossians 3:1–4 contains much that can help us stay focused on Christ: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” We are to focus on “things above,” remembering that Christ is seated in the place of glory and power (verse 1). The reason for the command is also given: because we have been raised to new life with Christ. To focus on the things above, we must consciously remove our focus from “earthly things” (verse 2), and the reason is given: we have died to self, and Christ is our very life (verse 3). Helping us stay focused on Christ is the reminder that Jesus is coming again, and when we see Him we will know glory (verse 4).
Hebrews 2 lists some of the things that Christ has done or is doing for us: He shared our humanity (verse 14), He breaks the power of the devil (verse 14), He frees us (verse 15), He is our “merciful and faithful high priest” (verse 17), He suffered for us (verse 18), and He helps those who are tempted in this world (verse 18). Because of all this, Hebrews 3:1, says, “Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.”
Here are some practical ways for a born-again believer to stay focused on Christ:
Commit to reading the Bible. It is impossible for a believer to be consistently in the Word without having his attention drawn again and again to Christ: “The Scriptures point to me!” Jesus said (John 5:39, NLT; see also Luke 24:44 and Hebrews 10:7). To focus on the Word of God is to have the Son of God brought more into focus.
Develop your prayer life. If you want to know how to pray, read Jesus’ instructions to His disciples in Luke 11:1–13. As you speak to the Lord throughout your day, you will naturally be more focused on Him. Little things, big things—we can come to the Lord with any and all of our cares. The command is to “pray continually” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), to always be in an attitude and atmosphere of instant prayer.
Trust the Lord as your only protector: “My eyes are ever on the LORD, for only he will release my feet from the snare” (Psalm 25:15). Once we understand the spiritual dangers we face on a daily basis, we will focus more on Christ, our one and only Savior, who alone has the power of deliverance.
Recognize your need and the Lord as the source of all good things: “Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he has mercy upon us” (Psalm 123:2, ESV). The world offers various means of obtaining love, joy, and peace, but they are destined to disappoint. The believer understands that love, joy, and peace (and a myriad other fine gifts) are the direct result of his relationship with Christ (see Galatians 5:22–23).
See the world for what it is: a sin-filled place of desperate need. The darker the world is to us, the more clearly the light of Christ will stand out. It’s not hard to focus on a light in a darkened room. “We . . . have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts” (2 Peter 1:19). Those who stay focused on Christ will find their perspective on worldly things changing. As Helen Lemmel says in her hymn, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, / Look full in His wonderful face, / And the things of earth will grow strangely dim / In the light of His glory and grace.”
In John Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress, Christian and Faithful go through Vanity Fair, where they are offered “all sorts of vanity.” Christian’s and Faithful’s response is instructive for us: “These pilgrims set very light by all their wares—they cared not so much as to look upon them; and if they called upon them to buy, they would put their fingers in their ears, and cry, ‘Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity,’ and look upwards, signifying that their trade and traffic was in heaven” (Part I, p. 86). May we, like the pilgrims in Vanity Town, practice the heavenward-look and keep our eyes focused on Christ, His glory, and His love.

My first response to the site downage should have been PRAYER!
My machine locked up again…I opened three QTree pages in brave nightly and it started to slow down. I was able to get to a terminal and open top, and kswapd was at the top.
To be complete, I did also have regular brave up–I switched back to it to see if UTree would post comments without requiring me to log in every time, and it was the same.
This time I am NOT running regular Brave.
(1) How much memory do you have?
(2) How much swap do you have?
(3) Is it correct to say it’s a swap partition?
(4) How much free space do you have in your regular disk partition, and do you have any peculiarities in your disk allocation (e.g. LVM)?
Well let’s wait and see if nightly brave has an issue by itself.
It does not look as if there’s a swap partition (based on output from df).
Memory 4GB (virtual machine, though I also had this issue on a “real” machine).
Disk looks to be 40 GB (based on df). I have no idea how to answer LVM.
4GB is barely enough to run Winblows 10. Wife has trouble despite having 8GB, but she leaves programs running when she’s through with them. Dumb habit that I am trying to get her to stop.
When she complains her ‘puter is slow, I tell her to close some programs.
Linux is *somewhat* less of a memory hog.
…though that doesn’t mean the browsers FOR Linux aren’t memory hogs.

I stand corrected. I know it depends somewhat on distro, too.
That’s right, you’re in a VM. Do you have the resources to provision the VM with 6G RAM?
And I suspect that’s why you have the “quiet until catastrophic” behavior. If you were running a standard Linux swap, any program wouldn’t necessarily know if part of it were swapped or not….but it probably tries to keep VMs together as much as possible.
If you were running LVM, df would have a line that looked like

It’s the VM itself that is freezing. The main machine is OK. Presumably the VM is swapping into/out of the 40GB file that contains it and pretends to be a hard drive.
I don’t know if the VM can do that without being told to do so. When you were running top, were you doing this in or out of the VM?

On the other side of things, I bought a cheapass phone from the new provider, putting a temporary number on it. This was mainly to test data at my house.
My one negative observation is I got a ton of spam calls on their phone. One hit me on the way to work from their store! Old phone gets spam very infrequently now. I suspect the new provider is not blocking numbers that don’t pass shaken/stir or stir/shaken or whatever it is.
It appears to be adequate. In fact, I’ve been using the phone’s hot spot all day today…since the one from the old provider appears to have crapped out (good timing! Even a day earlier would have been bad.). Sunday I go complete the changeover and move my old number to the new phone.
Phone spam garbage is why I still have a 2002 cell phone and keep it turned off and in my car on a charger most of the time. Just use it for travel and emergencies.
It is why phone sits on the toilet tank unless Hubby DEMANDS I take it with me.

I use the brave nightly most of the time, running in a VM on linux. I’ve found that it’s helpful to run the system monitor and keep an eye on the memory usage. Running out on the VM locks it up. Killing the internet access can sometimes coax it back into working. Right now I’ve got our two sites and gab. The worst for memory usage are video windows that are open for long time and Gab. I can clean up the memory used by Gab by closing it’s tabs and starting all over. Also, leaving a twitter tab open too long will blow up memory. Eventually I found that 8GB allocated to the VM would prevent lock ups, but I couldn’t do much else at the same time.
I havent even been able to find System Monitor on this.
I’m using gnome-system-monitor. I wonder if it requires you to be using the gnome desktop?

There is something exhilarating about the experience of movement without expending any effort — and apparently that exhilaration crosses species 😂
I noticed this phenomenon in my first car. It was powered by a rechargeable battery, and if you tipped the car over, the battery would discharge completely, requiring a 24 hour re-charge. So I was careful not to tip it over, because all the fun stopped if I did.
It had a forward and reverse lever, a gas pedal, and a steering wheel. I was pretty young, so I only have little bits or snapshots of memory about riding it, in the basement and on the sidewalk and driveway. It wasn’t very fast, but I loved it.

One of my earliest memories is being with my mom while she shopped at a department store. I was bored to tears, so was wandering around looking for adventure.
Eventually, I found something interesting, so I went back to my mom to share my discovery with her. I tugged on her clothes to get her attention. I had to reach up to do so, so I was quite young.
She smiled down at me, no doubt thinking of the last blouse she’d liked, and I asked her, “do you know what happens when you push the red button on the escalator?” [I had trouble with the last word.]
And I remember a very peculiar thing — her expression changed, but it didn’t change all at once — it was like a wave of change that went from one side of her face to the other. In front of the wave, there was a distracted smile, while on the back side of the wave her face displayed serious concern. As in, “oh, no — he’s going to tell me!” concern.
Not wanting to leave her in suspense, I said, “it stops!!!” She didn’t seem as delighted as I was about this new knowledge, but she did look at it — and it was, in fact, stopped. I think she was reassured by the lack of a body count.
So we set off to find the floor manager and he had to take a great big key-ring out to get the escalator restarted.
I never had one of those electric cars, but my sister did.

Whatever is really happening, we’re not seeing it. Narratives can be spun out of thin air and if it is the first thing the audience sees/hears, that’s the truth that has to be deconstructed.

I had an internet troll pest on a blog I ran for myself. They are just relentless once they get a hold of you.
I remember many years ago (late 90s/early 00s) reading an article purporting to psychoanalyze the typical troll.
It’s basically bullying behavior. The guys must have pathetic real lives and this is the only power trip they can have.

I knew three trolls on a Scottish forum who were normal nice women but when they got on the Internet watch out. Eventually two turnend on one and I got to know her well she does live in KY. I saw her at least one time a year.

The Pressley Stutts story is just terrible. The hospitals – they even demanded he be moved to a different hospital – repeatedly refused the treatment he wanted. I know from reading LinW and Pressley’s FB that he waited a couple of weeks and tried to fight it off at home. No mention of what he was doing or taking, but a big mistake.
Hospitals have become to powerful since Obama changed the health insurance to Obama care. Sadly many people do not realize it. The whole idea and practice that doctors are healers seems to be lost. Why am I surprised Pastors lost their mission to be healers of the soul.

You’re extremely unlikely to be able to defend yourself with anything more than your fists.
Should you decide to do this, then: Whatever gun you get make sure it’s VERY humidity tolerant, no matter how water/airtight you think the box is. Stainless over blue, for instance
Just get a stainless steel snub nose S&W .38 special. Load it with ammo that has nickel plated shell casings.
No worries about corrosion.
Next, get a large oven mit, and cut a hole in the tip for a heavy string or cord to go through. Get a Kydex holster for the S&W, attach the bottom of the holster to the cord, pull the cord through the hole in the end of the oven mit, and tie the cord to the bath towel rack at the back of the shower. Cover it with a towel if you don’t want it to be seen.
Put a plastic bag over the oven mit (open end down, same as the oven mit) if you’re worried about the oven mit getting wet.
When you’re done, the .38 is hanging from the towel rack, secured in a kydex holster, inside an oven mit (or something similar) for a protective cover (or just to hide it), handle facing downward. What’s nice about using an oven mit is that it’s flat, so it won’t spin. That means the S&W will be oriented in the position you want it to be, when you need, depending on whether you are right handed or left handed.
If you need it, you just reach up into the oven mit like reaching up under a skirt (sorry, I couldn’t think of a better image to explain it), grab and pull downward.
Kydex holsters are impervious to water and will keep the revolver snapped securely in the holster until you need it.
You’ll probably want a rubber grip for use with wet hands, Hogue makes a good one, or Crimson Trace has a rubberized grip with a laser, which might be helpful if you have soap in your eyes.
You could rig up something like that in about 5 minutes.
If you have young kids, this would obviously not be a good idea. If wife acceptance factor is an issue, it will take a little more time to make the rig look like it belongs in the shower, with a covering that matches the bathroom decor, etc. 👍😁

Yea, OK no need for cargo hauling to evacuate Afghanistan.

My husband was in San Fransisco with a colleague about 35 years ago. He met the uncle of the collegue who took both all over the city. They had a wonderful time.
Those were different times and just to bad that the city went down hill.
Decades ago, 70s and 80s, I would frequent Frisco. Truly fun times. Golden Gate park riding bikes. Fisherman’s Wharf, Coit Tower, Lombard Street, walk across Golden Gate, ride cable cars…
As with most of CA, I don’t even want to drive through Frisco on 80. AND NEVER, get off the Interstate. But that is pretty much how I feel about all of CA. Eastern Sierra’s being the exception. Central Valley tolerable when I MUST bring my bride to visit her mother.
But now a days, the liberal asshoes have ruined everything about Frisco.
I think Kamel-Ho was over in the East Bay, Oakland, Bezerkeley, etc. And NewScum was mayor in SF and REALLY brought in the homeless problem. This has been puzzling from the get-go, and I’m not aware of anyone talking about it, among the conservatives (e.g., Kurt Schlicter or similar).
What do we know?
Certainly DJT is aware that the vaxx is dangerous, and he knew it would be, from the time he began pushing for it to be rushed into production.
Many have speculated that he did this to throw off the DS plans, that by rushing it, this somehow threw someone’s timing off.
Whether it did or whether that’s just a convenient narrative to mollify We the People, what purpose would it serve to continue promoting the vaxx now, at this point?

How does it benefit himself, or patriots, or our country?
And certainly DJT knows that a significant percentage of the population (and an even larger percentage of his own supporters) know how dangerous the vaxx is, and won’t take it under any circumstances.
So why keep promoting the vaxx, when everyone who supports him knows (or is at least aware of) the truth?

I understand the frustration voiced by you and Aubergine. I’m not in quite the same place (and I’m not trying to talk you out of it; just sharing some thoughts).
The purpose of the rally was to campaign for Mo Brooks, not, as we would wish, to set everything right or to give us some nugget of hope or some sign that the cavalry will come riding in. To this point, it has been encouraging just to see that PDJT is still on the same page as we are regarding 2020, audits, the border, Dems, etc. And I’m still encouraged to see that. I also understand — and want the Trump people to understand — that we are excessively weary and need more. We need some hope. But really, we need results and action. i’m not holding PDJT accountable for that. He is in a very difficult position. If he says anything about Jan. 6, for example, I think it could cause problems for patriots.
The audits provide hope, but on the other hand, I don’t see how anything will come of them because there is so much corruption and obstruction. But they must be done, and I do continue to hope and pray, and will do what I can to help.
There is a lot I could say about vaccines. I will just say that I ask myself what the results would be if PDJT started talking just like we do here. I’m still trying to flesh that out, but I think it could be disastrous, “politically.” And he has to be savvy about politics. Otherwise, IMO, he could lose what power he has, and the power he is trying to regain.
I am willing to give PDJT “political” leeway to do what he thinks necessary to further the cause of saving America. I have always maintained that there is a lot we don’t know and can’t know, and I have trusted him to do what he thinks best, even though he is imperfect. He has a good track record, and the Left derailed him through fraud. I’m sticking with him because I believe him to be trustworthy, and he is the most powerful force that our side has.
As for championing RINOs, it’s politics. It’s dirty and it’s not what we want, but the alternative is worse, IMO. And I think that’s where he is coming from.

Some people stay with just the one ear, and get a CROS hearing aid, others get a CI (cochlear implant) which works surprisingly well. Lou Ferrigno just got one.
There’s probably been more money spent on COVID in the last two years than the entire history of researching and treating hearing problems over the last 100 years or so… 😡 😡 😡
And medicaid pays ZERO towards hearing aids of any type.
That’s horrid. Losing one’s hearing accelerates or contributes to dementia, as being out-of-touch makes folks withdraw from society, and then eventually from their families.
Oddly enough, over here, there’s a fixed amount that the health insurance will pay, based on how bad one’s hearing is. Anything over that comes out of one’s own pocket, and can go up to about 2500 Euros per ear. So each time my son got new hearing aids, it was about 5K Euro (we don’t have Costco over here, darn). But, since his hearing got so bad that HAs wouldn’t help, he’s gotten CIs, which are completely covered by the health insurance. A bit scary (see the Lou Ferrigno vid out there), but actually it’s not as hard as it looks. Crazy thing is, he hears better with the CIs than he had with top-of-the-line HAs for probably about 15 years. It’s taken about a year or so to adjust, but the second one (better to do them one at a time) only took about three months for him to get going OK.
Hearing and vision care should be standard, but I guess Bye, Done would prefer ponying up for *cough* reassignment surgery…
Vision is also not covered. The basic eye exam that includes looking for disease is, but not any eye sight correction.
Worse once you are over about 50 you are looking at bifocals or trifocals and those get really expensive. Heck, unless you do a lot of looking the FRAMES are generally well over $100! (I have new lenses put into old frames but my last got crunched and fell apart.)
So older folks could easily be paying $500 and up for BASIC eye care and the hearing aids are $1,500 and up. Hubby looked at some @ sam’s club a few years ago and they were ~$5,000
We have a supplemental insurance through teacher union that provides for glasses every year. I get a shot in my bad eye every 6 week costs $2000 and i pay $25 Co pay.
I am lucky that I can be on my husbands insurance on Co pay. The glasses I get always new frame with glasses and yes medicare pays some and Co pay does but I still pay $200-250. I like nice frame.
Hearing aid I do not know. Teeth cleaning insurance pays.
Unless you are a federal employee you get one for free.

I was bitten in the face by my sister’s German Shepard about 15 years ago. She had her back to me, and I was going to sit on the floor near her to watch the football game. I got down to my knees before sitting and reached over to pet her, and somehow I startled her. How do you sneak up on a German Shepard, accidentally or otherwise?
She spun around in one smooth motion with a snarl, and bit my face, one canine tooth puncturing the skin on each side of the bridge of my nose.
I pulled back, grabbed her snout with my left hand, and hit her skull with my fist, right between the eyes, overhead smash style. It was pure reflex, I didn’t even realize what happened until it was over.
Then I felt the blood running down my face, on both sides of my nose, and put my hand out to catch the blood. We were at my parents’ house, Mom appreciated that I didn’t get blood all over her new carpet.
Then I went to the bathroom mirror, to see how bad it was, and fortunately the punctures weren’t deep. So I washed my face and put some band-aids on, and went back to watch the game.
What I didn’t do, is react like Billy Gates did.
What in the world was that all about?
