That is a question that has echoed down the ages, and today seems more important than ever. The election of Donald John Trump to the Presidency of the United States in 2016 set in motion a revealing of truth—that we are living in a contrived reality.
Every organized institution has failed us. Our governments routinely lie to us as they lead us on to ever more coercive state control. Our politicians are corrupt and compromised, loyal to the System and not their oaths.
The medical establishment has become so ideologically driven that Dr. Tony Fauci, director of NIAID, easily lies to the American public as he sells us out to the pharmaceutical companies and even more malign actors.
Academia is bloated and depraved. They poison the minds of our students beginning in Kindergarten all the way through university with fundamental lies about biological science, among many other things.
Our clergy is often driven by ties to government and NGOs, rather than the truths of revealed religion. Let me digress for a moment and share a story that is well known, but bears repeating:
“…I heard John MacArthur share one time about a church in England. And they had over the archway going into the church, ”We preach Christ crucified.” (1 Cor. 1:23) And that was the motto of their church, outside, they had ivy growing up the wall. And then, as the years went by and the ivy grew, and things changed in the church, the ivy covered up ”crucified.” And then it’s just ”We preach Christ.” And he quit preaching the crucifixion, and then they just started preaching the life and the example of Jesus. And as the years went by, and the church moved more and more to the left and more and more liberal, then the ivy grew up and it just said, ”We preach.” And it wasn’t about Jesus anymore. It was just about loving your neighbor and being a good person. And then, as the years went by, the ivy grew and it just became, ”We.” And they met, and it was just all about us. It’s all about we. It’s all about me. That can easily happen.”

The revelation of all the lies has rocked the foundation of our society. Is anything we read or hear true? Just how bad are the lies? Can we trust anything or anyone at this point? Maybe we really are watching a film. Is our whole existence a controlled show?
It feels like we are standing on the edge of an abyss. Despair beckons.

Back to Good Friday
Before he died, Jesus spoke of His followers to the Father:
“I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.” (John 17:14-19)
But then Good Friday arrives. The day when the living Truth died for all mankind and changed everything. “He was crucified, died, and was buried…”
We have the Truth.
And next He comes as a Judge.
And justice will be done.
The evil one and his earthly minions will be overcome. Jesus told His followers, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
I am so grateful for Good Friday. We need Christ crucified.

This screenshot was posted in yesterday’s Open Thread. There was some debate over the current American blood donation guidelines not matching up with the screenshot. The reason for that is because this screenshot is from the Japanese Red Cross Society. Read the top right corner the screenshot to confirm. I also strongly suspect that what was screenshotted was a translation from Google Translate as I can’t find this page on the Japanese Red Cross’s English language section. Needless to say, I don’t know how accurate the translation is. I’m not going to call “Fake News” on this, but be advised that it is NOT related to American blood donation, and that the highlighted part is of unknown translation accuracy.

After decades of routinely donating to a handful of US based charities, I now exclusively give directly to the needy. Literally “dirt poor”. One family, that has blossomed into five. Through no fault of their own, lived in very meager circumstances, that we assist routinely.
Fundamentally my charity work with “coaching” and dollars is along the lines of enabling. Loosely parallel with, “teach a man to fish…” Worked with them to create a vision for their future. Develop goals to achieve their vision. Tweak goals as they go along while maintaining the vision. Most of all, they needed the CAPABILITY to achieve what was otherwise literally impossible in their circumstances.
~Twelve years into this…
They work their asses off to transcend what was their literal survival mode. A few small pieces of land with modest safe places to live. Grow vegetables and fruit. Some combination of a few chickens, goats and pigs. Banca boat and net for fishing. Raise fish on a large scale.
Full four year scholarship (tuition, room, board and minor allowance) for two nieces to achieve a BS Nursing degree. One or two more in high school likely to opt for nursing career path in a few years. Their choice. They gotta ask. I won’t suggest. They gotta WANT it.
Most of what we have sent are along the lines of “grants” to improve of the fundamentals of what they have started together. A few are zero interest loans. Loans they gotta pay back on a schedule, they create in advance of securing the loan. Have never lost a peso. 🙂
Reality is, money they have paid back is always plowed back into grants or another loan. The unique thing about the loans is, they are ALWAYS their idea. ONLY for a new venture of sorts or improving how they make money to secure their future. I don’t fund luxuries or nice to have.
Yes, this is on the Philippines. Yes, they are relatives.
Also, yes, we have also on a smaller scale assisted non family along these lines. Folks with so very little, asking for a helping hand (grant or loan) to improve their lives.
As we move along in retirement, we have everything we need and most anything we want. Going into the future, we’ll continue this mode of helping those in incredibly difficult circumstances.

Years ago my dad made a pledge to God that Any increase he got in salary from that point he would commit 50% of it to “the Lord’s Account”. They use this funding for various charitable purposes in their church & further afield.
They also use this funding to assist various family members & fund some family gatherings, that they consider to be the Lord’s work (I like to joke at certain restaurant events that “God’s buying”). They helped my family w/ tuition for a local Christian school we couldn’t afford to attend on our own, even w/ the scholarships our kids got to attend.
They have given limited funds to each grandchild in college on a semester basis & have set aside similar monies for the one’s that haven’t made college age yet & these are part of their “end-of-life” instructions.
I believe the Lord has really blessed my parents financially because they have been good stewards with the resources He’s entrusted to them. My dad took early retirement in the mid-90’s & most of his buy out was provided in stocks for his company.
Over the years they’ve used various financial planners but often taken an aggressive approach & continued to invest in the stock market. Per a discussion a few years back, perhaps 25 years after retirement, their net assets have gone up, even with all the funds they generously contribute.
As my husband likes to say “you can’t out-give God” & “you can’t steal from a giver”.

My brother when he was director of German Lutheran missionaries to Africa and Asia people came to him wanting to be missionaries. He always ask if they had served people in their own backyard and why not. He was always taken back that people want to help people in other countries but did nothing for their neighbor or people in their city or state or their own church. I always was taken back having poor people in the church struggling and we collected for other countries.
I agree help people around you and then further out.
That would be the principle of Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, & Then the Uttermost Part of the Earth!

If we’re being honest this is likely a true statement for most Christians. Think of the widow’s mite. She put in “all she had to live on”…that takes some very great faith of the kind I’ve never known or experienced.
Charity Navigator is a virtue signaling sort of thing. I use it a lot for research purposes. What you do – and this has been my task over the years – is put public financial information into the data base so that major donors know that the “non-profit” is spending their money on programs and not overhead. 8-10% overhead is acceptable. Then you link it all up to the website, and so long as you have an increase in donations over expenses annually, you get a four star rating.
Guidestar is the other membership website where you can get all this. That one is a little more meaningful, IMO, as the 990s are published. That’s where you can find out who the top contributors to any one organization. The thing is there is a membership fee, and it’s not cheap to get at this information.
At one point, CN had the Hildebeast’s Foundation rated as 4 or 5 stars (5, IIRC).
The numbers are only as good as the source. Who the major donors are is good info … but where the money *goes* is the greater problem, IMO.
And those books can be cooked.
And regulators can choose to ignore what they wish – as can prosecutors.
Believe me, I know the books can be cooked. One non-profit where I worked, I took one look at the financials and knew a few numbers were off. I didn’t trust the executive director to be honest about overhead.
Yes, the Clinton Foundation eventually earned a four star rating, but before that, they were on the watch list for poor practices. The publicity forced them to clean up the public records. I don’t believe their financials, but they did what they had to to save face, anyway.
And…for who the major donors are…that info can tell you A LOT about the organization. 501c3s cannot have more than a third of their income from any one source after seed funding. 501c4s – these are the PACs, essentially – can be bankrolled by a single individual.
I worked in fundraising for a number of years. Believe me, the laws were set up for the benefit of the donors more than anything else.

I’ve done some fundraising for non-profits as well … and with what I know now, I look back on it as a mistake.

Also worked for a non profit for a few decades ago.
Most of that hierarchy was retired military. Learned all were making six figure salaries. Me $40K. Most of the employees making minimum wage. My conclusion after a couple years was they made a very nice living off the backs of the less fortunate with no chance of upward growth.
Year three, I voluntarily took a pay cut and left. One of two times I have taken a pay cut to leave a crappy work situation.
Fundamentally, I don’t trust charities at all.

Sadie, I went looking to verify the information and the American Red Cross states that it follows the Federal Drug Administration guidelines…and the Federal Drug Administration guidelines seem to indicate that one can donate blood after receiving the current coronavirus vaccination and waiting two weeks.

You’ll be happy to know that red blood cells have no nucleus, thus no nuclear DNA. And plasma, of course, has no cells.
So your chance of receiving nuclear DNA is limited to contaminants and impurities, not the blood transfusion itself.

Probably. They still have to follow whatever the national laws and FDA-equivalents in those countries dictate. If the Japanese government or their FDA analogue decides that the vaccinated can’t donate blood, then there’s not much the Red Cross can do about it.

Blood usually lasts around 30 days, that’s why they need constant donations. Generally people who know they are having an upcoming surgery and want to receive only their own blood will go in ahead of time and donate it to set aside for their procedure.
I wanted to do that for my son’s 2nd heart surgery, in 2000 but we were discouraged from doing so for various reasons. Thankfully he didn’t need blood then or even when he got his liver transplant in 2013. Now w/ all the vaccine concerns I would Definitely bank a couple of pints of blood for surgery if there were time, just to be safe.

The delay for blood donations post vaccination seem connected to the vaccines with live viruses
Japan has been more cautious in all phases of the vaccination program. They are just now beginning to roll out the vaccines to the general population. Very few have been vaccinated. They have been slow to approve all applications of the vaccines (in comparison to the US).
As I posted yesterday and have been thinking about since yesterday … should we accept transfusions based on vaccinations? Something I had never before considered.
From what I can find it seems Japan is a fan of the “trust but verify” philosophy. They are taking US developed and US approved vaccines and putting them through their own testing and their own application process for approval.
One seems to have been approved and a few have received it and the others are due to be approved 4/12.
Makes sense that they have not yet approved blood donation for a vaccine that has not yet been approved in Japan.
I wonder how quickly the guidelines will be updated after the vaccines have been approved in Japan.
I’ve recently donated blood in Nov/Jan/Mar. Each time you have to filll out a mutli page questionaire that screens for a list of meds, diseases(primarily HIV, Hepatitis, Mad Cow), and risque behaviors that could have put you in contact w/listed diseases. None of this Red Cross lingo has ever been included in the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center forms. They DO take your temp and vitals, plus measure your hematocrit(for iron). If anything is off they turn you away. They publish your test results online. It also includes a COVID neg/pos result, so that tells me they’re testing your antibodies. (Free way to get anitbody test..I’ve never had it and will not ever get it in Jesus’ Name, Amen!!)
This post made me go check about vaccine requirements. Says you can still donate blood but not plasma. Interesting, they want survivors plasma at various places, but Blood Center doesn’t want vaccinated plasma?!?!! Also, Will my antibody test show whether I have formed protective antibodies?
No, our antibody test is not likely to be positive following the vaccine.
Our screening test is designed to detect a variety of antibody that forms when you have actually been ill with the coronavirus.
So there’s different antibodies for naturally surviving COVID vs the ones the vaccines create??? Yesterday I kept getting on my iPhone a message from the University that they had 10 vaccines left and to come to the parking lot at the University to get the vaccine shot. Who goes to a parking lot and allowes someone to give you a vaccine shot when one does not know if one has an adverse reaction to it? No monitoring for 2 hours nothing.
Needles to say neither my husband or I did go. No shot for us. My husband is going to consult his specialist who does not even want any other doctor to prescribe him anything without his approval. We are lucky he has top doctors who really care.

Back in the 90’s, I worked at a place with about 50 people. The owner was of Italian extraction, and many of the workers were Hispanic and Vietnamese — notionally Catholic.
And every year, on Good Friday, a bunch of the workers would start murmuring about taking the afternoon off. So, he started a company tradition. If you wanted to take the afternoon off, you could get in line any time after noon, and you’d be taken into his office and the door closed. After this, you could either pick up your stuff and leave without speaking to anyone and be paid for the rest of the day, or you could get your *ss back to work for the rest of your shift.
Once the door was closed and the employee sat down, he’d simply ask them, “what is Good Friday?” If they knew, they were ok to leave. If they didn’t know, he’d tell them — which got plenty of amusing reactions, usually themed around an incredulous “why is that GOOD????”

Growing up, I never went to school on Good Friday, so, asking for the afternoon off was a chore, and some bosses wouldn’t let you off because it was the Friday before a holiday. Same with Christmas Eve.
Never mind that the Good Friday Service is at 3 pm, or Midnight Mass.
I feel the same way about Christmas. Those who understand what Christmas is about get the day off and those who are not go to work.

Oh, grandma, when people finally get back in to visit their relatives, I can’t imagine what they will find. So horrifying it is almost beyond contemplating. What we do to our elderly in this country.
I have said that for years it is barbaric. Now Germany has caught up to us same there as here and also other European states.
My mother-in-law was living in skilled nursing for several years. With the advent of WuFlu there was a suspension of eating in the lunchroom. Residents now eat in their rooms. This has taken an enormous toll on the overall well-being of the residents…they’re giving up and who can blame them. Isolation is poison to the human spirit.
After a couple of months of this, MIL passed. We were able to visit outside while the weather was still warm but once that was ended she spiraled down in short order.

THE REPORTER WAS ON THE SCENE OF THE INCIDENT, and appears on-screen at the end of the video in a BLM hoodie.
So what’s the real story with Gateway Pundit?
OK, I did a deep dive on this. It’s totally a conspiracy, but it’s a REAL one with layers of deception of the participants. Such conspiracies are FILLED with deceived and partially informed participants who are manipulated into playing their parts.
(1) it’s not a “BLM” hoodie – it’s “Baby Lives Matter”, which is Tayler Hansen’s own pet organization.
(2) everything about him is authentic right wing, IMO – his anti-ANTIFA coverage, his antiabortion activism – if he’s anything, it’s “unknowing controlled opposition”.
(3) Hoft isn’t really part of this, other than being very loose with his reporters, which is IMO why they picked Tayler Hansen to be a chump.
(4) Hansen has hinted at “big stories” that tell me he’s very manipulable by that kind of con job, frequently used against self-styled journalists.
(5) He seems manipulated to me. He investigated what was in her backpack and published it – very likely as part of confronting the accusation that she fell back on her backpack, which had her coat and some other clothing item in it. That was indeed perfect for breaking her fall, but he did his story from the point of view of defending her and saying it was “just” those things – no reason to kill her.
(6) Everything tells me this guy was manipulated to help sell the story. He is likely even some kind of MK job, just because “Air Force” (Ashli).

So you don’t think Hansen was “in on” the Babbitt event, just wound up there with this select group of people, like perhaps he followed Sullivan? And he bought the whole thing and ran with it? I remember seeing that he wrote the “memorial service” article – he was there and posted pics of himself with her family.
I haven’t watched this video in a couple of weeks, but will again. But I know my opinion of this being a “performance” won’t change. A person gets shot in the neck and there’s no blood anywhere? Mowed down at close range, a few feet away, and there’s no simultaneous panic/flight reaction from the crowd? She falls at their feet, they’re completely boxed in and no one takes cover. Right.
So what’s with Hoft? It doesn’t look like a performance to him?
Oh, I think Hansen is “in on it”, but there are 1000 ways that the PHONY insider information could be total BS to manipulate him. The beauty of the Ashli Babbitt operation is that it can be sold multiple ways to a guy like Hansen.
In my opinion, he got “white hat” (hardly) information to make sure he was there, and that he maxxed out on the outrage, etc.
Some of the people there are clearly knowledgeable that it’s PHONY, but the phony op can be sold two ways to get KNOWING buy-in:
(1) we have to stop Trump because BAD TRUMP – anything else we say is COVER.
(2) it’s all part of the “plan” to help GOOD TRUMP – anything else we say is COVER.
The second one has a lot of really great story potential. I can come up with MILLIONS of lies to support it. All these people are going to want to believe them. My bad side has to be beaten down not to be tempted by the logical wonder of how badly people could be manipulated by that stuff.
They can march an army of chumps through that logic and nobody will be the wiser.
However, those aren’t the only things that might work here. I get the impression that Hansen is a true believer on this – probably with some help – and he will overlook inconsistencies to stick to his story of SAINT ASHLI.
In my opinion, he and she are both MK jobs using the really good stuff they have now. I have no idea if she is alive or dead, because I have no idea how they really played this.
Now here is the deal with Hoft, IMO. He’s a personality a lot like Drudge (gay pundit, obsessive digger), but as a gay, he is ALWAYS loyal to the tribe at some level, even enemies. He has backed some young gay reporters of questionable value, IMO. I don’t know if Hansen is one, but even if he’s straight, Hoft is a “good boss” for young reporters of any stripe, and he puts his people first, IMO, over ruthless competition. Hoft has a brother who also doesn’t fire at 100% quality, but has gotten some GREAT stories, and that’s part of the personality, too. Hoft is a good guy, my gut says.
I think Hoft is simply trusting the reporter, in the absence of more clear information about things. I think that if a different reporter came in with an Ashli Babbitt conspiracy story that had legs, Hoft would absolutely make the editorial decision to run with it, and let whoever wants to turn in their resignation, take their marbles, and leave, do exactly that.
I respect that logic, personally. 😅

I have been attacked, ridiculed, threatened, smeared, and belittled simply because I revealed very serious accusations against Chief Justice John Roberts and former VP Mike Pence made by a credible whistleblower with whom I spent several days.
I felt that the whistleblower was credible (i.e., believable) and his accusations needed to be investigated to establish whether they are true.
I would do the same thing over again even knowing the heat I have taken for doing so. We must investigate credible accusations of corruption against our government officials.
Remember the enemy attacks the messenger, especially when the enemy cannot attack the message because the message is true.
I have no plans to ask President Trump to endorse my candidacy for Chair of the South Carolina Republican Party.
I know, as I believe President Trump would recognize, that if he endorses me, he would be attacked for endorsing the messenger of the whistleblower’s accusations against Roberts and Pence as if he had been the messenger instead of me.
I do not want President Trump involved in this issue. He has enough on his plate with which to deal based on lies and misrepresentations by the propaganda media against him.
I am totally comfortable with allowing time to have a law enforcement investigation prove whether the whistleblower’s accusations are true and until that time comes, I am willing to continue to take the heat.
Of course, in order to make that determination, some entity must conduct a thorough investigation which has NOT been done yet.
I guess another option would be to get to the truth in a defamation case filed against me as the republisher of the accusations of the whistleblower. The original publisher – the whistleblower – could also be sued for defamation.
So far, Roberts and Pence have not sued, or threatened to sue, me or the whistleblower. We have not even received a retraction demand claiming the accusations are false.

The DoJ checked with the FIB, and they confirmed to each other that neither was aware of the accusations made against Pence and Roberts, and had no intention of becoming aware of any such accusations, even if the accusations were duct taped to their foreheads on live television.

One can by for the corner clips to secure the sheets that should help. I wish he would sell them. Also people who have a thick mattress should have no problem.
I have a mattress topper and that helps. Soon a new one but might still buy some clips. If I order again I might just buy flat sheets and tuck the under as people used to do and it worked just fine.

I was so inspired with my sheets I ordered from California a hand made 3″ thick pure wool mattress topper. I am waiting for it and is all organic wool and American hand made.
I love linens if it is towels , sheets or kitchen towels. I used to iron all of it still have a mangle but only do pillows now.

I took an intensive astronomy course years ago, and learned that “green” stars are the rarest color visible stars in the universe (so there’s a bit of conceit on my my part in choosing the handle – oh well!).
But these stars produce *emitted* light, whereas the color “green” implies *reflected” light.
So, using my own nomenclature, I use “ruby” instead of “red”, to re-name “red giants”, and “diamond” instead of white, for “white dwarf” stars (leaving aside the difference between “white” and “clear”, vis-a-vis diamonds).
Steve responded when I gave that explanation, and relayed that he was unable to find an example of an “emerald” star.
So – they are RARE indeed!
I did eventually find one, and it turns out that whether it truly is green is one of those “the dress” sorts of things. Some see green, others think they’re nuts, the people who see green return the favor to those who don’t. (The one I found was Beta Lyrae.)
Green is certainly not an expected color in the black body radiation sequence (which most stars fit). I’d expect that a green color would be imparted by intervening dust/gas.
Wikipedia (article on “green star”) flat-out says no such thing <i>actually</i> exists. For what it’s worth.

I am not sure after my son told me about what blood type one has might be what reaction one has. My husband and two sons have blood type O and have no problem with vaccines in general. Both my boys had the covid vaccines one Moderna one Pfizer neither had a problem.
My husband never had problems with flu vaccine but I have. My son told me I would have a problem if I got Covid because of blood type A. We , my husband and I believe we had Covid early on he got over it in three days I lingered with symptoms for months. I have no underlying conditions my husband has.
A neighbor about 36-38 got the Moderna vaccine and was really sick still after a week it kept coming back even when he thought he was better. He is fit healthy no health problems and still the second shot wiped him out.

At the very beginning, like a week after the election, there was a link at thedonald.win I think where you could search the entire mail-in ballot database from PA, by date of birth. It also showed the county, when the ballot was requested/received/tallied. This was a big deal because there were ballots from people born as far back as 1890, and pages of them from 1920 – 1940. And all kinds of anomalies with ballots received the same day as requested, etc.

That dreadful DeepState tool, DR. ROCHELLE WALENSKY, just issued a statement that fully-vaccinated persons MAY TRAVEL FREELY. The guidelines are based on “several newly released studies documenting the strong real-world effectiveness of coronavirus vaccines in protecting against infection and spread of the virus…”.
The CDC is also issuing “new guidelines” stating that fully vaccinated persons MAY GATHER FREELY with UN-vaccinated people indoors, such as with family members at “low risk” of catching the virus.
However, the CDC “new guidelines” also state that even fully vaccinated persons need to continue wearing a mask and do social distancing when in public.
The amount of half-truths, mixed with outright lies (either by choice or by omission) in this “statement” by the CDC is staggering.
My opinion: This CDC pronunciamento is to lay the groundwork for “allowing” We, The People to “have back” our God-given natural rights ONLY and WHEN 100% of us are “fully vaccinated”. There will be clamoring by the DemCommunists in Congress to get “laws” passed and/or EO’s written by RobberJoe’s handlers for him to sign, that will mandate full vaccination for any person who wants to hold a job, be with family, go to school, attend worship services, engage in commerce, buy food and services.

LOL! You see, that’s a bit of a HOOT of misdirection, to get the knee-jerk anti-vax crowd to protect an even BIGGER secret by making them jump at bullshit.
Allow me to explain.
The BS is that “there is something horrible and wrong with the vaccines in general” – which is unlikely to be true right now because of great scrutiny. They will pull of THAT stuff after the vaccines have been normalized, and they will do it SELECTIVELY, because that’s how they work.
Right now, the problem with the vaccines is that they’re not exactly immunity stars, if nature is still operating like normal.
The sad truth is that recovery from disease has traditionally given stronger and longer immunity than vaccines – it’s just not always SAFER immunity.
Thus, for childhood diseases that don’t kill kids, I’ve always been in favor of “just catch it”, which horrifies the OCD types who are PREYED ON by the industry to sell product that keeps people in their sterile pencilneck world of high profits and low morals.
SO – when they needed convalescent plasma, they got it from the people who were likely to have the BEST and MOST COMPLETE immunity – recoverees – but again – THEY CAN’T SAY THAT OUT LOUD and fear-monger for bucks.
Now – the “most complete” part is interesting. It gets back to core ideas about immunity. This will appear briefly in my next post. Fauci backtracked on variants because he tried to fearmonger on them, but in the process woke up questions about vaccine strategy – VALID QUESTIONS – and they sent that bastard into TIME OUT, where he has to write 100 times “we have variants covered, no problem, don’t worry”.

I consider this to be utterly tasteless, ghoulish even. The guy has been buried for awhile now and they still act as if he’s alive somewhere.

Not dissimilar to the way Tom Clancy and Isaac Asimov somehow wrote books for years after they died. Though in Asimov’s case it’s at least plausible (he wrote hundreds of books while still breathing; a little thing like being dead would hardly slow him down).
I wonder if Rush authorized this. I know he planned for his passing. I understand what you’re saying but also think some people might find it comforting to hear his voice, and that his words of wisdom might be beneficial. I used to hear clips from Paul Harvey on the radio long after he had passed. But one option would have been to have a break for mourning, with the understanding that people would still be able to hear Rush in his own words in the near future.
I tend to think he would approve. They’ve been using this format this past year when he was too sick to work after chemo treatments. Since I haven’t listened to him in recent years, it would be new and timely wisdom that I’d appreciate. Even his words from years ago still stand as truth.
I bought a two year subscription and maybe they feel they have to give people their money worth since they do not give a refund ? I am not listening to repeats. I do not mind if a small clip is played in a show and with a new host and it is relevant to topic.
Comforting to listen to his wisdom, most is timeless. There is only love for Rush throughout the program. It warms my heart to hear his voice, spend a lot of time reflecting on his contribution to America.

For some things, I don’t mind, but after DECADES of being in a choir somewhere, let alone a cantor, for all of this, being sidelined not by illness or the year I took off just to rest, this is REALLY hard to swallow. I mean, I spent tens of thousands of dollars over 35+ years developing and maintaining my voice, and this priest says it’s too operatic for him. My gig downtown, the regular cantor is back in town. I’ll be there tomorrow and Sunday, but, I’m, like, feeling under utilized.

Sarah Brightman falls in to too operatic for me. Not that I listen to much opera. My wife did drag me to see The Phantom of the Opera in Los Angeles so that is my live experience. Was not on the bucket list but I checked it off anyway. So we all have our tastes. I don’t like country much either so there is that.

I’m so old that way back when I was still living in North-ish Jersey I got to sit up high above the stage at the Met to see Beverly Sills’ debut in 1975. Siege of Corinth, also Shirley Verrett and I forget who the baritone was. A friend’s husband worked lights there for years. I can’t remember the opera itself apart from Sills laughing and socializing during intermission with some friends who came, bouncing their baby around and eating an apple. 😄
I saw Madam Butterfly once–very moving. Opera & country aren’t my thing either 🙂

I know I’m appreciated by many, it’s just that there’s more singers than opportunity right now.
Too operatic? Unless there are guidelines for how the church wants the singing to be done (less vibrato, or something) — which you would no doubt be following anyway — then I tend to think the priest is not appreciating what he has. I’ve sat through WAY too many bad church music performances that distract from the message to fail to appreciate a singer who knows what they’re doing. It’s a gift to have someone like that participate.
Most of “operatic” means “clear”, “distinct”, and “able to fill a hall”. You might ask him as to which part he doesn’t like, ’cause you could always mumble, slur, or sing for the front row.
The part he doesn’t like is it takes attention away from him. It’s not hard. That and he doesn’t stick to the rhythm on the page and I do.
At my last church, when cringy singer was up, I finally started exiting the Sanctuary. It just plain flat hurt my ears and I needed no more added pain in my life. If you’re unable to exit, can you at least smuggle earbuds and listen to something else during painful performance?

I’m more in danger of hearing loss due to standing in front of pipe organs and behind percussion and horns. When I was in Symphony Chorus, we wore earplugs for some performances. In my Fellowship of the Ring score, I literally wrote “earplugs in” “earplugs out” in places. I was less than three feet from a number of drums, and not the timpani. Same with “The Matrix” and Mahler 2. That performance, the percussion principal went backstage and brought out handfuls of earplugs and handed them to the soprano section. He was adamant we all use them.
My grandfather used to tune and repair pipe organs, and he’d frequently take his kids along — which, of course, bored them to tears. So they’d wander around in the churches or auditoriums and poke around.
On one occasion, my uncle was wandering around inside a pipe gallery while my grandfather laid crossways along the pedalboard checking voltages under the lowest manual, when my grandfather’s elbow accidentally hit the “SFORZANDO” button.
OMG There it is, the culprit. Very easy to locate. 😂

Oddly enough, at the time my gramps was living in San Diego, he had the console for THAT VERY ORGAN in his garage (despite the family history of it being in West Virginia). When they decided to dismantle the actual pipe organ and install an electronic substitute, they called him up and offered it to him if he would just get it out of there. He used to joke about scrapping the rest of the console, but carefully cutting out the panel with the Sforz button in it, framing it, and giving it to my uncle.

I love organ music and am always astounded how gifted people play on old organs. Seems they need more than two fee and two hands. I knew a person who played she enjoyed every bid of it. She also had a fantastic voice and sang in church when not playing the organ. She made a choice raising a family instead being a professional singer.
There are so many beautiful peculiarities to pipe organs. Tiny things, like how some pipes do a tiny “chuff” before they fix on pitch, and how different manuals (keyboards in a console) will control different pipe galleries, so you can have one part of a church sing a duet with another part.
And, then, there are the German Positiv organs — no electric switching, there is a physical link between the key pressed and the air valve for the pipe! The more pipes, the more effort needed to push down a key. Some times, a pedal might require almost ten pounds to press. When Bach has a “toccata and fugue”, the “toccata” is a “touch piece” — it actually shows off the physical strength brought to the organist’s artistry.
Take….
….around 1:56, it goes into a series of multi-pipe chords, that on a ‘positiv’ organ would require real effort. Previous tweedling around on a single set of pipes was “OK, I can run a pipe organ….”, but this shifts into granny low and says, “…like a BOSS!”

Yes I have seen the organist have a real workout playing. When I was in Scotland I heard the most wonderful organ concerts.
It was probably not much louder than a typical rock concert. The kind where you are sort of deaf until the afternoon of the next day.
It’s fun to have someone actually understand what I’m talking about with this!
For those people unfamiliar with pipe organs, pipe galleries are heavily insulated rooms with soundproof doors. They are rather sparsely furnished, containing mainly “wind chests” — which are plain wooden boxes with holes in their tops. The pipes sit into the holes. When the organ is on, the air in the wind chests is at pressure.
The valves that turn pipes on or off do just that — there is no way to turn one on halfway. Everything inside a pipe gallery is always at full volume. The volume control on the left edge of the above photo would open or close shutters on the face of the pipe gallery facing into the listening space.
In addition to teaching public school music I was an organist for 40+ years, many with my husband directing the choir. I actually have a performance degree, had to do 5 years to add the teaching credentials. So yup, I know everything you’re speaking of. 👍🏻

The button in the photo is labelled “tutti”, but is the same thing. If you hit that button and hit a “C”, then every C pipe in every gallery in every octave plays a C. If you’re laying across a pedalboard (presumably across the white pedals), and hit that button, you play CDEFGAB on every pipeset in every gallery in every octave (this would be a great test to see if you could sell a blower upgrade if you didn’t have a small boy wandering around inside).

It was a great way to get conservatives to eat their own.

Former President Donald Trump on April 2 urged people to boycott Major League Baseball (MLB), Coca-Cola, Delta, and other corporations which are openly opposing election reforms enacted by Republicans in Georgia.
“Baseball is already losing tremendous numbers of fans, and now they leave Atlanta with their All-Star Game because they are afraid of the Radical Left Democrats who do not want voter I.D., which is desperately needed, to have anything to do with our elections,” Trump wrote in a statement released by his Save America political action committee. “Boycott baseball and all of the woke companies that are interfering with Free and Fair Elections. Are you listening Coke, Delta, and all!”
MLB on Friday announced that it will move its All-Star game from Atlanta in protest of the election reform package passed by the state’s Republicans last month. MLB Commissioner Robert D. Manfred Jr. announced the move in a news release saying that the decision was the best way to “demonstrate our values as a sport.”
MLB, Coca-Cola, and Delta did not respond to requests for comment.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, signed a package of election reforms into law last month which expanded voting hours and access to early voting. The new law also requires absentee voters to provide a copy of their ID alongside their ballot, something the state had already required for in-person voters.
Georgia was one of six states where Trump challenged the outcome of the 2020 election. That state ultimately certified President Joe Biden as the winner after several recounts. Trump claimed that the election in Georgia was tainted by fraud and was run by rules put in place through an unconstitutional process.
Minutes prior to the boycott message, the former president released a statement about election fraud.
“Why is it that every time the 2020 ELECTION FRAUD is discussed, the Fake News Media consistently states that such charges are baseless, unfounded, unwarranted, etc.? Sadly, there was massive fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election, and many very angry people understand that. With each passing day, and unfortunately for the Radical Left CRAZIES, more and more facts are coming out,” Trump said “Other than that, Happy Easter!”
Georgia’s election reforms have become the target of left-wing criticism, including false claims by Biden about the law requiring the polls to close by 5 p.m. The bill actually expanded the voting hours to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Corporations including Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola joined the chorus, issuing statements from top executives criticizing the bill.
Biden said on March 31 that he would support the MLB moving the All-star game from Atlanta in response to the election reform legislation.
“I think that today’s professional athletes are acting incredibly responsibly. I would strongly support them doing that,” Biden said. “People look to them, they’re leaders. Look at what’s happened with the NBA as well. Look at what’s happened across the board. The people who’ve been victimized the most are the people who are the leaders in these various sports and it’s just not right.”
Kemp said it was “obvious” that neither Biden nor his advisers familiarized themselves with the content of the bill.
“It is obvious that neither President Biden nor his handlers have actually read SB 202, which I signed into law yesterday,” Kemp told The Epoch Times via email on March 27 referring to the bill by its legislative ID number. “This bill expands voting access, streamlines vote-counting procedures, and ensures election integrity.”
