Me, too. He makes me laugh just to look at him. It’s kind of a puzzling reaction. He’s not funny looking. I can’t quite put my finger on it, other than the man simply delights me.
He’s so no-nonsense. He’s not about to kiss anybody’s behind. He’s serious. Why on earth would that make me feel like laughing? Maybe it’s just because I’m glad he’s on our side. I don’t know.

From the little bit I’ve watched him and listened, I get the distinct impression that he may be genius or close to it as well. He has a wicked biting wit and it amazes me the things he says that get taken as a true compliment – that I think are nothing of the sort. You can watch his eyes and his mouth and you’ll see it too. I would bet he’s someone who finds the humor in absolutely everything and those close to him laugh a lot.

Meh. Sing loudly and be proud of it. The one thing our modern world has done very badly is take away the idea that we are all able to make music. 100 years ago nearly everyone sang, or played an instrument, and enjoyed each other’s company in the making of music.
Don’t know if it’s still popular because the Irish culture has so drastically changed in the last 20 years, but when we were there visiting Irish friends, who then took us to meet their friends in their homes….we were told to be prepared to participate in the entertainment after dinner. Whether it be playing an instrument, sing or recite a poem…that was part of an evening among friends.
I think you still see this in many churches and it does spill over into other activities. During the Xmas season, for example we are invited to friends’ home where singing carols are half of the evening…and go to service group holiday dinners where eggnog and carols are after dinner. In our small southern town, we still have the lighting of the Xmas tree and singing carols.
Don’t forget all the songs many of us learned around the campfires in the summer (bet most of us still know the words!)… or, at least in my case, the songs we sang on the buses that took us to football/basketball games in high school.
My Asian friends are highly entertained about this whole notion of group singing…not a part of their culture.
That’s one of the things I hate about shows like America’s got talent. The whole idea that we are a consumer culture and only if you are good enough for the judges should you be able to perform. Otherwise you should just be entertained by someone else. Never participating yourself. Just consuming whatever garbage Hollywood studios see fit to put out. Now, I do buy digital music and CD’s but it’s for indie bands doing stuff that’s mostly in the musician’s folk traditions. They’re keeping the traditions and music alive, and I will support that. I do my part too, I play guitar and sing. We have a jam session every Monday at the local bar and grill. I may not be AGT worthy but we have fun, we bond with neighbors, and we entertain ourselves.
Well not that I don’t like to sing it’s debatable whether I can carry a tune or not. Reminded me that I recently came across some pics from back in the day. I was known to get up a sing a Merle Haggard song or two, maybe some George Strait as well. From 30 some years ago🤘..

Long weekend here. Having our biannual camp ven neighbourhood cook off.. my entry tonight will be a chook recipe I saw on tv. 40 cloves of garlic. Stuff chook with 10 crushed cloves.multigrain breadcrumbs Italian herbs and vermouth. Sear chook all over in butter and olive oil. Put in camp oven with sprigs of rosemary, zest of 4 lemons(chunky bits). Garlic and 750 ml of milk. Flaked salt and ground pepper. The milk and garlic end up making the chicken soft and sweet. Sounds wierd. This is abbreviated. Serve with mashed potatoes and steamed green beans

I had just finished following out the twitter threads by Rising Serpent, Kattica, Jordan S, and others on this story. Daughn posted a brief look late on yesterdays’ Open Thread. But no one should miss it. She mentions “Shades of Robert Ludlum” – the story of Obama, the Clintons, and all their associated criminal cohorts and activities will someday be the “Truth stranger than Fiction” story.
Judicial Watch actually had gone to the FBI with information of what they were finding on the “Dark Web” and guess who that FBI person was? Peter Strzok (Strozac). Reminds me of spy movies where the good guys are delivering information to a person they think is another good guy, and it turns out the recipient of all their intelligence was a traitor.
AG Barr was reluctant to use the word “Treason” in recent interviews – in his world, everything must meet the legal definition standard. But in our world, how is it not treason?
Basically we had the highest levels of our federal law enforcement agencies deep-sixing important intelligence data. Strzok and Company were acting as double agents – not for another country – but for Obama, Hillary, et al – people who had set themselves above the Law, and above the well-being of America.

My spidey sense tells me that they are involved in that.

Barr is on SOLID legal ground. Treason is not as effective of a legal charge as Sedition is. Tracy Beanz talked about this recently b/c so many people were up in arms “Would you categorize it as treason?” “Not as a legal matter.”
Don’t throw him under the bus. Barr is locked on target and knows EXACTLY what he is doing.

Notice how the debate has shifted from “is the cabal guilty?” to “are they guilty of treason?” ….

Glad to see this story finally surfacing again. I thought this story was huge, even before the news of the blatantly illegal spying on investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson for her reporting on Benghazi.
For me, the $30 billion in gold is another plot line.
The original issue was gun running. Either Hussein, the Hildabeast or both were making money from selling the US weapons we had sold to Kadhafi to ‘freedom fighters” in Syria. I strongly suspect the buyers in this little gun running operation were not very well vetted (either from incompetence or on purpose), and that many of them were not innocent Syrians seeking their freedom. Indeed, I once heard that Christopher Stevens was nicknamed the US ambassador to ISIS (probably from a source as paranoid as I am, but it is an interesting thought to consider). Add to my little theory the fact that Russia became involved in Syria around this timeframe, which they could be expected to do if we were arming their enemies, and there were foreign policy events in Turkey, perhaps involving Turkish pressure on our allies the Kurds, that I believe were related, and I think this gun running crap caused huge foreign policy problems.

I think I may have found an explanation for the unusual ‘striping’ pattern on the hill in Andrew Wyeth’s painting, “Christmas Morning.”
The woman who had died had lived in the Chads Ford area of PA, and was active in American Revolutionary War enactments and events. She had hand-sewn a Betsy Ross flag replica which she often displayed. It was used to cover her after her death. I think the striping pattern on the hill represents the stripes of the flag.
Here’s where this gets very unusual. Andrew Wyeth had a dream on Christmas Eve that his older friend had drowned in the cellar of a house. The next morning he got a phone call from her son that she had died unexpectedly during the night.
Wyeth has said that the picture was done entirely from memory.

Some 4chan anons were pissed (pun intended) at a ‘journalist’ who took stuff they dug up and used it as his own without attribution (as I recall – accuracy of my memory not guaranteed). So they concocted the prostitutes-on-the-bed tale and planted it on 4chan figuring he would ‘steal’ it & run with it. (I tried to go back and find it, to no avail)
He did and it was this person (whose name I don’t recall but not Sater) who spread it out there and has to be considered to be the original source.
At the time, I thought the tale was so far out there that nobody would believe it; however the target’s TDS was so severe that he swallowed it hook line and sinker.

It was a spoof…just like that thing about the ‘Okay hand-sign’ being a “racist white supremist sign”.

PhoenixRising – I posted this late night last night in reply to your well thought out post that obviously came from your caring & loving heart. Reposting so that others don’t hesitate to say Hello. Of course, he is reading through these threads too. Too many video links do slow things down on the blog but I have seen him ask for videos a 2nd time so he must like them.
“Your care and concern for PHC come through loud and clear in this post leaving zero doubt that you want what is best for him.
However, after being asked multiple times what he wants he has assured commenters he is enjoying the visiting. He has asked for some of the rowdy videos to be reposted as he wants to see them again. He is as quick witted and with the same sense of humor as ever and on the ball, with naps now added (expected and understandable). He closes the computer and tells commenters to party on without him when he gets tired.
The stressful thing seems to be the internet related drama including the hacking, WP and security issues v. the commenting.
I think your thoughtfulness, kindness, concern and faithfulness to the Golden Rule demonstrates your respect, regard and friendship toward Patrick Henry but everyone is a little bit different and handles illness, pain and various phases of life in their own way.
Some want the quiet calm and privacy described but others would rather spend their days at this point living as fully as they can until they can’t.
Some would be bored, lonely, sad, restless or even stressed and feeling more pain with nothing to distract them.
I have taken care of family as they have gone into hospice care. Some go for the advanced medical and physical care v. the seclusion or being ready to immediately transition to Heaven.
I some of my family tell me that it’s ok if they get tired because so what? They don’t need to rested to go to Heaven!
And a Grandfather who snuck his nightly shot of whiskey until they very last few days (it was his nightly “cough nightly medicine” he said). I was appalled due to his other meds but he insisted and hide from his nurses, friends keeping him supplied. He was 96 when he passed so I guess it worked out for him.
My church going, tee totaling Grandmother had us go find a very specific beer for her. It was shocking! Had to drive all over town to find what she wanted. Probably wasn’t good for her but at that point, very close to the end for her, who cares? Give her what she wants and let her live until she died. After all of went through to find it when drank several sips, was happy and satisfied and had it put away. She was happy.
Anyway, guess commenters just need to be sensitive to PHC and let him spend his days the way he chooses, at the balance of pain/comfort/enjoyment that he decides iis right for him, not expect anything from him but welcome what he wants and his chosen level of participation. I think He will tell us what he wants and doesn’t want.
PS: the tone, pace and entertainment have occasionally surprised me too but not my party! Up to PHC and so far he seems to be enjoying himself!”
Let me add that my Mother also was mentally sharp until the meds were increased the very last day or two until the point she was mostly sleepy. She and I would joke about another sour dour church visitor. She needed company, companionship, and yes, she absolutely shed some tears as she said her goodbyes and readied to leave. She had times of quiet, of contemplation and plenty of extra naps. But she didn’t want to sit there sad and whispering and think everyone was tiptoeing like it was a library or like she was already gone and it was time to mourn. She was alive, right there and wanted to look forward to visits with friends not dread another depressing visit from depressed people! For every visitor, they were that way for the time they visited her but if every visitor was like that then that was just supposed to be her mood for all of those days….not her!
Point is, everyone has their own way, their own personality and let them decide even if it feels odd to us. Visiting hours are open …
About the time of the issue with CTH and PHC banned, I took a break from saying anything. Spent the past couple of days simply reading, and of course, peeked in on PHC’s room – where there appeared to be some mighty fine partying going on.
Some of you know I’m an RN, and I’ve worked with many elderly/seriously ill patients as they set forth on their end of life journey.
I believe that Patrick enjoys his visitors, even as we understand he may not (and shouldn’t feel obligated) to respond to all his visitors. PHC has an incredible sense of humor, and Faith. Both of which have sustained him. I believe people sharing the little funnies, the vids, the caring are very important to PHC.
As much as it might be tiring for him for people actually visiting in person wherever he is – the ‘net provides visiting in a passive enough way, that he can smile and feel comforted by his dear friends – the kind of person we’ve all recognized PHC to be indicates that visiting him is a plus, not a negative.
Just my thoughts…

My husband and I have been on the road last weekend and my husband mentioned to me that he had not seen as many Flags displayed as this year.
We had travel to Columbus on to Indianapolis .
From businesses to private homes some along the road everywhere we saw American Flags. Something good is happening in this county .

Jury Awards Gibson’s Bakery $11 Million Against Oberlin College

Here is the backstory:
the day after the 2016 election victory by Donald Trump, a black male Oberlin College student was stopped for shoplifting wine at Gibson’s Bakery and Market in downtown Oberlin, OH. Gibson’s had been in existence since 1885, was frequented by students, and also provided baked goods to the college dining halls. A scuffle ensued that was joined by two black female Oberlin College students accompanying the male shoplifter and apparently acting in concert with him. All three eventually would plead guilty to shoplifting and aggravated trespassing, and would avow that Gibson’s was not engaged in racial profiling.
But before those guilty pleas, students at the college immediately declared that Gibson’s was guilty of racial profiling, and large protests were organized outside the bakery. Flyers were passed out claiming Gibson’s was “racist” and had “a long account of racial profiling and discrimination.”

Students started a boycott of the bakery, initially joined in by the college. The college eventually resumed business with the bakery, but then terminated that business after the lawsuit was filed.
Gibson’s and its owners sued the college and Raimondo for libel, tortious interference with business relationships and contracts, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and trespass. Gibson’s alleged long-term damage to its business and reputation for the allegedly defamatory accusations and other torts. The plaintiffs in closing argument asked the jury to award $12.8 million in compensatory damages.

“Lee Plakas, who handled much of the month-long trial and who gave the closing argument, said this case “is a national tipping point.”
“What the jury saw is that teaching students and having them learn how to be upstanding members of the community is what colleges are supposed to do, not appease some students who they are afraid of,” Plakas said. “People around the country should learn from this, that you can use the legal system to right the wrongs, even if the one doing the wrong is some huge institution who thinks they can do anything they want.”
Roger Copeland, a retired Oberlin College professor of theater and dance, was in the courtroom and seemed ecstatic after the jury came back with their verdict. Prof. Copeland is somewhat famous in the courtroom for getting this response on a Raimondo text to co-workers after a letter-to-the editor he wrote was critical of the school for their handling of the Gibson’ affair.
“Fuck him,” Raimondo responded in a text message about Copeland. “I’d say unleash the students if I wasn’t convinced this needs to be put behind us.”
“I’m exhilarated by this verdict,” Copeland said, whose wife Michele worked at the school in food service and testified she was under orders by the school to cut the business off from the cafeteria bagels and pastries they provided because of the student unrest.
“What is most amazing about this trial is that the public was able to see what the process really was in how this college goes about its business,” Copeland said. “It’s almost like the mask has been ripped off the face and we can now see what the face really looks like.”

I liken it to moving cross country or even out of the country in the days before mass communication and easy travel. We are saying goodbye to one location, one community, to our established ways, places and habits, and most importantly, to all the people we know and love there as we go to this new place that will be even better. Gotta let go of one community as we begin to embrace our next.
Of course, with Heaven there will be a reuniting with loved ones, friends and family who have gone before us which gives us joy even as we have to temporarily separate from those who will go on living on Earth. Seems the hard part is that separation because we know they will face ups, downs, good times and bad and we want to keep walk through life with our loved ones. But we are all on a little bit different timeline or schedule and we just must enjoy, value, treasure the time we have with our loved one’s in our life and we in theirs.
PHC has expressed that he is confident of his next phase of life and will see us again when we get there. Until then he is still enjoying this Earth phase of his life – to the fullest! 🙂 Some go out with their boots on! Whatever someone enjoys, finds amusing and how they like to pass the time and hang with friends.

What that article FAILS to mention is that the Russian ship unnecessarily INCREASED it’s speed by a factor of 3 in order to FORCE the US vessel to give way. Moreover, the US vessel was recovering aircraft (ie. Helicopter), meaning that the US vessel was on a heading directly into the prevailing winds. Still further, the Russian vessel knew this and could have easily chosen to be courteous and give way to the US vessel. Instead, they chose to create a conflict (like a liberal does) and then cry about it (like a liberal does).
The idiot who wrote that article needs to look at what the IMO rules say about INTENTIONALLY creating a right-of-way conflict….which was directly caused by the Russian vessel increasing it’s speed. Had the Russian kept it’s original speed, it would have passed over 1/2 mile BEHIND the US vessel. What that article ALSO fails to mention is that the US ship was communicating with the Russian and informing it that the US ship was recovering aircraft and asking for the courtesy of the Russian to give way. When a ship is recovering aircraft, it is vital for that ship to maintain a steady course (into the wind) as well as a steady speed. The Russian ship TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THIS FACT and unnecessarily increased it’s speed in order to create the right-of-way conflict.
In short, the author(s) of that piece is/are an idiot.

I suspect that the person behind this site is somewhat analogous to Frank Marshall Davis, who looked to his contemporaries like just another black community journalist, but was in fact publishing Stalin’s propaganda designed to alter viewpoints in the American black community.
In this case, we are seeing similar stuff but updated for the times and a completely different audience. The level of disinformation looks professional, but has some handy tells.

The database, known as MS Celeb, was the largest public facial recognition dataset in the world, amassed by scraping images off the web under a Creative Commons license that allows academic reuse of photos. According to Microsoft Research’s paper on the database, it was originally designed to train tools for image captioning and news video analysis.
However, after its existence was revealed by Adam Harvey, a Berlin-based artist and researcher, the Financial Times (paywall) ran an in-depth investigation that revealed that giant tech companies like IBM and Panasonic, and Chinese firms such as SenseTime and Megvii, as well as military researchers, were using the massive database to test their facial recognition software. Now Microsoft has quietly taken MS Celeb down.
“The site was intended for academic purposes,” Microsoft told FT.com, explaining that they had deleted it, because “it was run by an employee that is no longer with Microsoft and has since been removed.” Engadget reports that after the FT‘s investigation, data sets built by researchers at Duke University and Stanford University were also taken down.

Every NEW class of warship ever made has had “issues” that needed ironing out. New systems and methods take time and often “trial and error” to be made fully functional. This is normal, not unprecedented or abnormal.
This is PARTICULARLY true for highly complex vessels like a new class of aircraft carrier which is using NEW technologies that have not had the benefit of several decades of use to refine and perfect. For example, the new aircraft catapult and recovery systems for the new Ford class carriers will be many times more reliable, require less maintenance, and more effective than current steam-powered systems found on Nimitz class vessels.
Meanwhile, grandstanding Congress critters will try to make hay with such things….especially LIBERALS who ALWAYS take issue with our defense spending.
Not just warships, but aircraft, ground vehicles (humvees and tanks and APCs), and even guns all have their teething problems. The venerable M-16 was widely regarded as a piece of shit when it first came out.

Gas and the dreaded Diesel (another load of green-non-science-hooey) are smothered in taxes, resulting in a cost of $7.00 per gallon, heading north. If “Greta the GreenHearted” has her way, it’ll go to at least $10.00 a gallon.
And, of course, the price of energy, be it electricity or oil/gas/diesel/heating oil/other, drives everything else up, and has a multiplier effect.

My husband went yesterday morning to Horton’s drive through. He ordered and when he wanted to pay the person taking the money said that the car in front of my husband paid for what my husband bought.
My husband then told the person taking the money that he is paying for the person behind him 🙂

I was at a family shindig earlier today, and the overtly Republican Fox News watcher, highly opinionated of course, was focused entirely on Trump and the perceptions of buffoonery. Frankly, none of the Clinton body count info, or any of the Q stuff was part of his reasoning.
I have a feeling when the truth hits, there’s going to be a lot of denial from the “I held my nose and voted for Trump” crowd.
BTW, no one else talked about politics, and the Mississippi River is scary high.

Most people I know who are Republicans first and conservatives by reflex are also television news junkies who do not realize they are being manipulated. They also are prone to fall for “expert” information. This makes them highly opinionated, and objectly dismissive of anything alternative offered.
