It’s interesting to watch him sing “was blind, but now I see.” There are different kinds of blindness.
“Amazing Grace” is a powerful hymn, written by a former slave trader. After seeing the wrong of his previous existence, John Newton repented of his evil ways and eventually became an Anglican clergyman. He isn’t kidding when the lyrics state “that saved a wretch like me”.
He then testifies to the healing power of redemption and how it changed his life. “Amazing Grace”, indeed.
I have an excellent article on his life story, if I can find where I put it. Quite remarkable.
There is a series of books by Kenneth W. Osbeck, starting with “101 Hymn Stories: The Inspiring True Stories Behind 101 Favorite Hymns”, that have background on many, many hymns and their writers and composers. He’s also written a devotional with 366 Hymns in it.
Humbling to see what many of the hymn-writers went through; and comforting to see how GOD carried them through, and blessed them (and us, through their hymns)…

The Vivaldi and Bocelli are wonderful. I appreciate that Bocelli doesn’t use fake gutteral flourishes to make the music “cool” or “relevant.” It’s just pure and clear and beautiful.
It’s called ornamentation, and a lot of it is traditional. My old exercise book has specific pieces to practice various ones. There’s whole books with various cadenzas for Verdi operas.
I’ll be a professional and quit typing now about the rest.
I’m just now seeing this. I always appreciate your professional input. I think “operatic” or “classical” (for lack of the correct term) ornamentation enhances the music. What I object to is Christian artists who use — I don’t know what to call it — a guttural lead-in to certain notes, in the same way that those trying to sound “sexy” would. I don’t know if I’m explaining it clearly, but it is very off-putting to me.
Are you talking about the gospel sound where it really is ornamented, or the leading tone slide? The leading tone slide is actually a carry over from Gregorian chant where the first two notes in a line ascend. That’s just a combination of the singer doesn’t know any better and laziness.
True ornamentation is fine by me. I think vocal fry might be what I’m talking about. Here’s an annoying video (IMO) teaching how to do it. He finally demonstrates it at about 4:00.
I’m only halfway through, and…it’s called a vocal fry because it fries the vocal chords. What that person is doing is teaching how to sing in low chest voice. In my world, we exercise it to anchor the voice and give us full over tones, but don’t sing in it. We sing in head voice (falsetto). Singing in chest, OTOH, over a period of time is what causes things like polyps. The vocal chords wear out, and just don’t close anymore.
I’m not happy with that video. That technique…my voice teacher would have a fit.
Thanks for your input! In additional to the issue of vocal cord damage, it’s annoying and distracting to me when singers use that technique.

When I was a poor student & wife just starting out. I LITERALLY watched every penny. I knew what my monthly $$ coming in was, what my fixed costs were and what I could spend on food, laundry, gas. I even had a little noteboot to keep track of my groc purchases and the cost.
Compare that to some friends who are well below the poverty line. They blow what money they have on cigerettes, booze and eating out then whine that they don’t have enough to pay their bills. ZERO planning ahead. ZERO attempts to put money away. The homeless are the far end of this spectrum.
These are LEARNED mindsets and one of the reasons you see generational poverty. The kids do not have good roll models. the kids do not learn cause and effect either. But the worse part is the KIDS DO NOT KNOW THERE IS AN OUT!

She’s a 10 year old girl–a friend of my granddaughter who plays on her soccer team. A few weeks ago, while playing, she was stung. Days later, she developed a blotchy painful rash on her legs and torso and her joint began to swell. Yesterday she was admitted to the hospital vomiting blood. The doctors have said it’s an auto-immune disease and she just has to let it run its course…
I would appreciate any prayers for this sweet little girl…

Those Jolly Rancher chewy-hard candies served as a good tooth-puller with my daughter, who was like your kiddo.
When you bite down on those…your teeth are stuck…so it would usually pull out a loose one.

I’ve been thinking that that Ukrainian company, Berezma (?), was used as a money-laundering conduit…to pay off Biden and who knows how many others.
Burisma*. And it was undoubtedly a conduit of “plausible money” unrelated to actual business gains.
*Ukraine, like Russia, uses the Cyrillic alphabet. Transliterations into a Roman alphabet often show “glitches” and alternative spellings.

That explains why I’ve seen ‘Burisma’ spelled different ways.
Cyrillic is sort of halfway between roman and greek, with a bunch of stuff that just goes off into weirdness.
It’s easy to decipher “стоп” signs, especially when they’re red and octagonal. All c’s sound like s and the little table widget is very much like a greek pi, so you can guess it’s a stop sign. Various places serve “кофе” — which isn’t too tough to identify as coffee. A place that serves coffee and sandwiches might be a “кафе”…..which doesn’t take a genius to figure is a cafe. Some more complicated things are kind of freaky — “ресторан” is “restaurant” — which is guessable once you change the p’s to r’s, the c to an s, and the h to an n…….similarly, “супермаркет” becomes supermarket.
Such is the hidden power of the human brain, a lot of this stuff starts getting easy after about a week. “кристалл палаc” down the street becomes “crystal palace” — a movie theater.
But, then, there’s the stuff that looks like squished bugs and reversed letters/numbers — “Войско Запорожское”. This is clearly not the Roman characters that would work for Latin, Spanish, Italian, or German. This is also not the Greek characters that would work for Greek. It just doesn’t transliterate very well (the second word is often rendered as “Zaporozhian”, if that helps).
And that is why artificial Cyrillic terms, like “Burisma”, can get freaky when renedered in Roman alphabets.

Who wants to bet the powerful dem donor was one George Soros. Remember he was ALL over the Ukraine, after Putin put a warrant on him. Putin wants old Georgie’s head on a platter. I would not doubt that this whole sordid scheme comes back to Soros, Oil, $$, and his “open borders” poisoning of the world. Europe is already on the down slope. He wanted that HERE.

ISIS’s purpose was to drivve out the people in Syria who were in the way of the pipeline to the ports in Syria. the genocide, and the subsequent migrant crisis through Turkey to Europe were added bonuses to the Cabal. ALL the money for the weapons and to fund ISIS was funneled through the Clinton Foundation. The BILLIONS paid to Iran were PART of this too. That was to fuel the rebels in Yemen to attack the Saudi’s, thereby making the oil from Iran through their pipeline worth TRILLIONS.
Then the WHOLE thing is one big cluster related to oil and $$. It is ALWAYS about the money. I wrote on this topic in response to a narrative that Trump was Putin’s “plaything”. I said for someone who is supposed to be Putin’s plaything, Trump sure is putting the HURT to his wallet, and mentioned the pipeline. It’s on my blog, but I don’t remember the title I put it under. Good points. A couple of times we here in Germany have suffered because Putin pulled the proverbial plug on the Ukraine by shutting off or seriously curtailing the flow of gas through the Nordstream pipeline, which hurt us due to reduced flow and dwindling reserves on our side

The solution to the problem of antinomianism is not less grace, but more grace: Breaking free of the inadequate cheap grace that winks at sin while keeping us enslaved to it, and embracing the costly grace that calls us and empowers us to live holy lives that model Christ.

(unless you indeed fear a danger from them) meaning, except those believers who in some areas or times fear for their safety from the disbelievers. In this case, such believers are allowed to show friendship to the disbelievers outwardly, but never inwardly. For instance, Al-Bukhari recorded that Abu Ad-Darda’ said, “We smile in the face of some people although our hearts curse them.” Al-Bukhari said that Al-Hasan said, “The Tuqyah is allowed until the Day of Resurrection.” Allah said,
[وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ اللَّهُ نَفْسَهُ]
(And Allah warns you against Himself.) meaning, He warns you against His anger and the severe torment He prepared for those who give their support to His enemies, and those who have enmity with His friends,
[وَإِلَى اللَّهِ الْمَصِيرُ]
Allah encourages the believers to show enmity to the idolators and to dissociate from them, affirming that they do not deserve to enjoy a covenant of peace, because of their Shirk in Allah and disbelief in Allah’s Messenger .
If these disbelievers have a chance to defeat Muslims, they will cause great mischief, leave nothing unharmed, disregard the ties of kinship and the sanctity of their vows. `Ali bin Abi Talhah, `Ikrimah and Al-`Awfi narrated that Ibn `Abbas said, “Ill means kinship, while, Dhimmah means covenant.” Ad-Dahhak and As-Suddi said similarly.

I had to replace not only my roof but most of the strandboard under it because the original roof was INSTALLED WRONG.
There is an adhesive strip that holds the shingles down in the wind. There is a piece of cellophane that keeps the adhesive clean prior to installation. NONE of the cellophane had been removed. The ONLY thing hold on my roof shingles on was the tacks at one end. This meant in a strong breeze ALL my roof tiles flapped up to a vertical position allowing rain to get to the strandboard during ever thunderstorm or hurricane. And yes I finnally noticed this and that is why we replaced the roof. (Most people out in a storm are not looking up thirty feet inspecting their roof.)

First of all, we are given a command: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” The implication is that we play a role in whether or not we experience His peace. And anytime we are given a command in Scripture, we can count on God to enable us to obey it.
Second, Christ’s peace is capable of ruling in our heart. The word rule means “to act as arbiter.” An arbiter is a person who has the power or authority to decide a dispute. When doubts or worries arise, Christ’s peace reminds us of God’s truths, which have the power to quiet our heart and renew our trust in Him. This amazing peace also overflows into our relationships in the body of Christ so that we can live in harmony with one another.
Third, gratitude is an important aspect of peace. Thankfulness is the result of remembering all God’s benefits instead of dwelling on the circumstances that tend to rob us of peace. Counting our blessings in this way insures the rule of Christ’s peace in our life.
We don’t have to let our concerns and worries bury us in a sea of unrest. Christ’s peace, which is available no matter what we are facing, can strengthen our confidence and trust in Him.

In serious medical studies – plain old ice and ibuprophen were proved to be the best healing remedy for pain and injuries of joints and muscles. I got some reusable ice packs/wraps from Walmart to keep in the freezer for my old knees and it really does help when the pain starts up after yard work, etc.
They don’t seem to have the very same ones, but these might work just as well.

I’m allergic to Ibuprophen products.. So It’s just Ice (packs) & Tylenol, It’s NOT Helping a lot..
Perhaps you could try alternating Hot &Cold packs, plus massage (which was the 3rd most effective remedy in the study) along with the Tylenol. Just don’t use dry heat. Always use moist towel with heating pad….and be careful with heat… not too hot. Cold limited to 20 min on and 20 minutes off. Best to you and Angie in your new domicile! I wish you had friends/family/volunteers close by to help with all the work.

So Chief Justice John Roberts could throw out an Impeachment case that was brought to the Senate, right? Somehow, I doubt he would.
The Chief Justice would likely not be able to preside over this trial due to his involvement with the FISC. He would likely be called as a witness under oath by Trump’s lawyers to answer questions about the FISAs on Carter Page.
The Constitution does not explain what to do if the Chief Justice cannot preside over the trial.
The Constitution is pretty clear about who would preside over the trial. The fact no contingency was listed seems to require the Chief Justice for that position no matter what.
I believe it’s because the Founders didn’t imagine the possibility that the Chief Justice could also be a witness.
I believe that this would be a Constitutional crisis that would need to be resolved in advance.

But it’s extremely difficult to know what someone is eating; many study participants struggle to remember and accurately report their diets. And meat-eaters may differ from those who don’t eat meat, or eat less, in a variety of ways that also influence health.
Piece of meat. Lots of veggies. Dessert once a week. Skip sugars. Fruit instead of bread/cereals in the AM. Oatmeal with a little brown sugar is ok. No fast (fried) foods unless there is no other option and you have to have something. No sugary drinks. Wheat bread, never white.
Eating healthy is easy. As a general rule, skip anything that wasn’t around in the 50’s, and limit how much that was that you know is bad (like desserts).
The problem isn’t knowing what and what not to eat. The problem is people’s self-discipline and self-loathing.
I actually skip the grains altogether, but yes. And no soda.
Major part of diet: Meats & Veggies.

Skip wheat and most carbs like corn, potatoes, carrots and oats. If you ‘need’ to eat a carb the best of the bunch is long grain ( Basmati) rice since it does not seem to spike the insulin as much and is a good source of fiber. (Some research suggests it is digested further along in the intestines)
Rice and I do not get along, but otherwise, yes.
