Today’s special MOAR SHUTDOWN!!! Open Topic thread is dedicated to your thoughts on this day, where the shutdown continues and the panic burgeons.

As always, you can say what you want, comment on what other people said, and so on. BUT: Keep it civil. Rules much like the Old Treehouse, except of course Q discussion is not only allowed but encouraged. A couple of other important things to consider:

And Wheatie’s Rules (as amended by me):
- No food fights.
- No running with scissors.
- If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.
- No shooting at the nuclear warheads.

Among those who are not being paid–but are still doing their jobs anyway, are US Border Patrol Agents. I wonder what they think of all of this. They’re clearly dedicated to their jobs, and understand the importance thereof. But it’s a bitter irony that they must suffer, so that we can get them the tools they need to do their job effectively.

Today begins our run without adult supervision, as Wolf takes his leave of absence. I already look forward to his coming back soon.

Tonight’s short editorial.
We’re seeing a lot of speculation as to the sorts of things that could happen as this shutdown drags on. Everything from enabling a huge cut in government jobs once thirty days have elapsed, to letting the military fill in on federal court cases, when the federal courts run out of money. And of course, whatever the president CAN do, isn’t necessarily what he WILL do; he could forego some options.
The Opposition is in such a panic they’ve even rescinded the annual invitation to present the State Of The Union before Congress. That has never happened before, no matter how bitterly divided our government has been.
We’re in uncharted territory here. But this has become normal under President Donald J. Trump. It’s as if he were Captain Kirk, taking the ship of state through uncharted space and bringing everyone back out alive.
If all goes well, a lot of bad people are going to be broken of power, if not incarcerated, if not executed.
But I suspect we’ll never truly recover from this. Once a bound of civility has been breached, it becomes a regular occurrence. And this is even more true if they get away with it. We’re looking at a future full of times when the President is barred from giving the State of the Union to congress, whenever there’s even a minor tiff between the two branches. The precedent has been set, and now, like the Roman Republic collapsing as discord and even violence became the normal way to do politics, we head out into–what?
I know one thing, the results of all of this will be worse if the president fails to bring the corrupt to justice, than they will be if he succeeds. And so that’s what I’m pulling for.
Thoughts, anyone?
MOAR SHUTDOWN!!!
MAGA ON!!!
