It defies common sense. It’s like an ‘ends justifies the means’ law. They want god-like power to punish anything they don’t like, and so they make up circumstances and shoehorn them into the most serious crimes possible, in order to punish people they don’t like and silence opposition through fear.

In America, the punishment has to fit the crime, and the crime has to be real and legitimate, not made up by politically motivated lawyers to punish their enemies — which is all hate-speech crimes are, too.
If two brothers commit a bank robbery, and one brother is shot and killed by police during the robbery, it makes zero sense to charge the surviving brother with murder.
He didn’t compel his brother to be there (brother had free agency), he didn’t pull the trigger (no overt act by surviving brother is the cause of death), he had no motive, he had no intent…
And most important of all, he didn’t DO it.
The cop shot and killed him, not his brother, which is not even contested. So it is a perversion of justice to prosecute the brother for murder, when no one even contests that the cop shot and killed the deceased brother.
So everyone knows who killed him — and it wasn’t his brother — but the state is going to prosecute the brother for a murder he didn’t commit, anyway?
So if the brother is convicted, then TWO people killed his brother, and the person who actually killed him goes free — because no crime was committed by the cop — and the person who didn’t kill the brother is convicted of murder. Even though he didn’t kill his brother, didn’t intend to, and didn’t want his brother to die.
And this is called ‘justice’.
The brother can be charged with enough legitimate crimes to put him away for 30+ years, including felony armed bank robbery, potential hostage-taking, etc.
But in what sane, rational, lawful justice system is the surviving brother prosecuted for the murder of his own brother — who he didn’t kill, and who he didn’t want to die?!?

The alternative is probably worse – and that would be to statistically distribute the punishment into all crimes that might result in deaths, a calculated number of times, depending on the crime. I used to be of the same mind as Scott – that the very idea of “felony murder” was bass-ackwards and unprincipled.
Eventually, I came around to what you stated here.
One way to see this, is to replace the shorthand name “felony murder” with “engaging in a felony which results in death”. That is what the charge is, that is what happened, and it makes legal sense. Like murder/homicide, there is a range of responsibility, from mere carelessness to premeditation to brutality and inhumanity.
A great example is a burglary in which a homeowner accidentally shoots themselves or a family member. “Chalking it up to an accident” – we know in our hearts – is bullshit. The criminal negligence of creating a situation in which mayhem unfolded, needs to be punished by the law. But instead of calling it “criminal negligence of creating a situation resulting in homicide” – we just call it “felony murder”. After that, a jury can decide if the level of culpability by the criminal is sufficient to say “this wasn’t just an accident – you go to jail.”
Note that misdemeanors cannot result in the charge, which means that it was a serious criminal act resulting in death – not bumping fenders and exchanging words or shoves in a parking lot.
I strongly suggest that you test this theory by going for a ride-along with the next carload of gangbangers taking a joyride.

Arun Subramanian is a United States District Judge serving on the Southern District of New York who just issued an injunction to force the Trump administration to hand over our tax dollars to support fraudulent daycare centers all over the country.
He was appointed by Joe Biden in 2023.
He issued an injunction knowing the states don’t have a snowballs chance in hell of winning this case. Federal courts cannot force the Executive to disburse funds on a particular timeline absent a clear statutory command.
And there is no clear statutory authority to disburse funds immediately to daycares absent a thorough review.
So this judge issued an injection forcing the waste of taxpayer money in a case he knows the states won’t actually win on the merits.
The administration really needs to start ignoring these ridiculous judges. Their orders are meaningless.
They need to do colonoscopies on them. I will not believe they are not dirty.
The idea that over 600 local judges have the authority to overule the President is ABSURD!
No kidding.

On the lighter side, don’t know how many of you follow college football and the funny images that are coming out on Indiana University’s head football coach, Curt Cignetti. He is older than old school and the players would literally run through a brick wall for him. Indiana has been less than zero as a football program for nearly all of its history. Now they are playing for the national championship and are the favorite using players that were not highly rated coming out of high school. They are undefeated. Last night they destroyed the Oregon Ducks. Close friends of ours are big backers of IU. The husband sent me this image below during the 4th quarter.
I would agree that Indiana sports fans are on an endorphin bender. They do look unbeatable but that is why they bother to play the game.

COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 5
God will certainly hear prayer: David gives to God the glory, and takes to himself the comfort. (1-6) He prayed for himself, that God would guide him, and for all the Lord’s people, that God would give them joy, and keep them safe. (7-12)
1-6 God is a prayer-hearing God. Such he has always been, and he is still as ready to hear prayer as ever. The most encouraging principle of prayer, and the most powerful plea in prayer, is, to look upon him as our King and our God. David also prays to a sin-hating God. sin is folly, and sinners are the greatest of all fools; fools of their own making. Wicked people hate God; justly are they hated of him, and this will be their endless misery and ruin. Let us learn the importance of truth and sincerity, in all the affairs of life. Liars and murderers resemble the devil, and are his children, therefore it may well be expected that God should abhor them. These were the characters of David’s enemies; and such as these are still the enemies of Christ and his people.
7-12 David prayed often alone, yet was very constant in attendance on public worship. The mercy of God should ever be the foundation both of our hope and of our joy, in every thing wherein we have to do with him. Let us learn to pray, not for ourselves only, but for others; grace be with all that love Christ in sincerity. The Divine blessing comes down upon us through Jesus Christ, the righteous or just One, as of old it did upon Israel through David, whom God protected, and placed upon the throne. Thou, O Christ, art the righteous Saviour, thou art the King of Israel, thou art the Fountain of blessing to all believers; thy favour is the defence and protection of thy church.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Canada made a huge mistake, when they chose to side with their puppet masters in Europe, instead of making a trade deal with Trump.
Now they are going to be leveraged.
Trump jacked up the tariffs on Canada and is now REPLACING their oil supply with Venezuelan “heavy crude.”
Our refineries in the gulf have been dependent on the “heavy crude” from Canada, but now they will have direct competition from Venezuela, who is bending over backwards to give Trump everything he wants.
That’s a massive increase in heavy crude imports and leverage over Canada.
“If Trump succeeds in bringing Venezuelan oil back into circulation, it would give Washington more leverage over Canada, whose oil industry relies on the US market for nearly all its exports.
Canada sends about 4 million barrels of oil a day to US refineries, much of it the same type of heavy crude that Venezuela produces.
Analysts warn it could weaken Canada’s position in future energy disputes, especially as domestic producers already face tight margins and limited pipeline capacity.
