Poor little otter. That dang orca wasnt going to give up. I appreciate orcas but they are as dangerous as grest whites or maybe more so, since orcas hunt them and hunt gray whales.
I’m surprised the orca didn’t try to flip the boat.
The Fiancee and I did a whale-watching run out of Victoria, BC a couple of years ago. We were on a large (20+ person) inflatable. I have no doubt that an orca could bite it, deflate it, and leave people stranded.
They seem to have decided that boats are noncombatants and that people are generally friendly. We had one youngster come toward the boat repeatedly jumping out of the water, then passing under and continuing on its way — all shadowed by mom. Mom didn’t discourage it at all. And there are a lot of anecdotes showing cetaceans coming to humans for human problems — like being tangled in nets….
…..and, of course, humans responding enthusiastically.
Sometimes, even, for non-human problems. This orca might live to be 50 and made a severe rookie mistake chasing seals. I suspect it’ll never say a utter a negative hypersonic squeak about humans.

As a follow-up, they’ve now decided that he’s a him. And he’s still around as of some months back.
Orcas hunt in packs.
They don’t do grey whales everwhere, just where packs have learned to do so.
The orcas can’t really bite through the flesh of the whale, so they have to do something a little more complex. The whale’s natural defense from an attack is to do a deep dive, being that it can dive deeper and for longer than orcas.
The way an attack works is that the pod will swim up to the whale and give it “the eye”, informing it that it will be killed. The next time the whale is on the surface to breathe, the orcas will play slip-and-slide across its blowhole opening, interfering with its breathing until it is annoyed enough to dive. Then, scouts from the pod will dive to an intermediate depth where they can keep track of the whale while the pod stays over on the surface. Scouts will rotate with other scouts so that the whale is continually monitored, though they can’t match the whale’s duration underwater.
When the whale returns to the surface, the pod is waiting, and starts covering the blowhole again while the increasingly frantic whale tries to recharge its oxygen levels for another dive. Once the whale has enough, another dive begins. Scouts track the whale and the rest of the pod follows.
Early on, the dives can be in excess of half-an-hour each. After several hours, they get shorter and shorter, until the exhausted whale is smothered on the surface. Only then will the orcas feed — on the whale’s tongue, the only unarmored meat available. As the whale’s carcass takes on water, it slowly begins to sink, and the orcas seldom get all of the tongue before the rest of the whale is lost to the depths.
Although orcas are worldwide, this is a behavior only seen in a few pods in specific locales.
It should be noted that the obvious countermeasure is for the whales to interfere with the scouts’ surfacing and drown the scouts…..unfortunately, there is no known way to educate whales about this because they do not travel in schools.
Powerpoint demonstrations work well on big ass humans. Maybe would work on big ass whales. Just saying.
I watched one attack a baby and the mother couldnt save it. Those pod hunters are vicious and so smart.
Evolution is an unforgiving teacher, and many get only a single chance at their lessons.
The thing with packs is that there can be some level of specialization and division of labors. The scouts probably didn’t participate in smothering, because they were getting ready for further deep dives. Scouts at the surface had to keep track of their deep counterparts to do swapouts. Pod leaders at the surface had to keep track of the scouts in order to have the pod at the whale’s point of surfacing.
It can be startlingly efficient.
Most carnivores kill their prey with their teeth, starting when the prey is alive. It’s not pushing a button in another room, it’s quite intimate. But I think most predators and prey would agree that it is not vicious.
It’s strictly business.
Sometimes the predator doesn’t bother to ensure the prey is dead before beginning to eat. I doubt the prey would consider that non-vicious.

I’d tend to limit vicious to targets that were not legitimately food.
Ive read about how they get the great whites by drowning them. The pattern of attack has been seen repeatedly. They apparently love the taste of the liver. Theres speculation among researchers that some of the great whites are migrating away from areas where the pods may be travelling dt risk. Doubt a great white thinks on that level though.
The otter’s giant stroke of luck is that the orca probably expected it to head for shore and had its attention focused in that direction. I’m sure it didn’t realize that the boat captain would have willingly transported it anywhere it wanted to go as a courtesy.

It is hard to know what relief is needed — if, indeed, the reactions are uniform (which is highly unlikely). This leads to generic-sounding and insincere-sounding prayers, however actually sincere and heartfelt they may be. Remember that God knows what is in the hearts of those praying better than he knows the flapping of their lips. When family, friends, associates, the Church, and others buzz about your family in its grief, there will be awkward moments as words fail. Look to God to see their hearts.
Believe me, we know this.

Yes, we DO have an airport but the airlines seem to be unaware of it.
Like Augusta, Ga., Steve. Decent, modern airport and at least 2-3 hours to another one yet very limited service. Just the winter market to Florida would be a winner (like Spirit Airlines), not to mention the Masters. But I’m sure it’s been thoroughly analyzed. OTOH, how would they know the potential if there’s no survey?

I now travel almost exclusively out of that airport, even overseas. But, to go to Florida, for example the rerouting is so bad it’s easier to make the 8 hour drive!
And, yet there are direct flights to DC.
I know… one wonders who makes these decisions and who gets paid to support them!
Many years ago, there was a denver->chicago->Colorado Springs->Denver loop run by one of the big airlines (and it ran the other way too).
The problem was the damn plane from Chicago was always late. Which meant you’d not get to Denver on time and miss your connection, if you were connecting in Denver. You were never warned that this was a likelihood when you booked a connecting flight (so that you could take a different flight and schedule a longer layover in Denver, which you’d actually spend sitting on your ass in COS), nor did that airline simply schedule a long wait in Colorado Springs before moving on to Denver.
Eventually even people who hated the drive would just drive the 75-90 minutes to Denver.
Well that major airline finally did the other obvious thing, which was to not include Chicago in the loop, and now the only flight it has out of COS is to Denver.
I infer with a high likelihood of being correct that that flight in the video was flying out of Denver.

Cool videos. The area with the otter is familiar to me. When our children were young we would charter a fishing boat just north of there. When we caught a cod or small bass, by throwing it in the air allowed one of the multitude of eagles to swoop down and snatch it from out of the air. And when the Orcas came thru the fish left post haste.

I’m quite positive that my mother’s cousin who died yesterday will be listed as a COVID death since she “tested positive” over a week ago. The truth is that she almost died of congestive heart failure last year, and she had pneumonia. COVID may well have had nothing to do with it.

My almost 102 year old uncle is currently in the VA hospital. Now, he has been isolated in his room in the senior care facility for months, yet when he entered the hospital (probably never to leave)…he was tested and found positive for C-19. Personally, I think Pence will do the right thing.
He campaigned hard for months…he knows they won.
He knows that we know they won.
He knows that there was massive fraud going on…and that the Trump team has the evidence that proves it.
He knows what would happen to our country if the Dems/ChiComs are allowed to take control.
So I just don’t see Pence betraying us.

this stems from “lawyers” –apparently Gohmert’s lawyers contacted the VP to see if he would join in their lawsuit trying to clarify his “responsibilities and duties” concerning accepting fraudulent electors and he said no. that caused the flurry of articles that he is betraying POTUS.
I wasn’t there…I don’t know what they proposed or how it was said. there is no indication that the VP is willing to do anything other than what he and POTUS most assuredly have discussed.
with all the misinformation and distraction going on, it is a confusing time.

Well, I think Pence knows he doesn’t NEED to join a lawsuit.
The Constitution and the law is clear on this, as little as it says.
That people don’t understand how the VP was originally selected is getting in the way of understanding.
Back in the day, the VP was NOT a running-mate, but a RIVAL for the Presidency. The second-runner-up in the Electoral College became the VP. Thomas Jefferson giving himself the Presidency led to a LONG feud between himself and John Adams, only resolved late in their lives. They were both up for President in1800.
Adams had beaten Jefferson by three Electoral votes in 1796, and was President from 1796-1800. Their ideologies were very different, so they didn’t govern well together.
In the 1800 election, Jefferson was the “vote counter” because he was VP, and by most accounts, he awarded himself the Presidency by counting highly irregular votes from GEORGIA (constant troublemakers, that state).
Adams and Jefferson didn’t speak to each other for 12 years.
WE have changed the rules in practice, but the LAW is not practice. Trump pulls these arcane laws out, like he just did with that Impound thing, and he uses them. Will that happen on January 6? I guess we will see.
VP Pence joing a lawsuit, and I don’t know the details makes no sense to me.
VP Pence simply needs to follow the law and do what IS Right.
If it is uncharted territory, VP Pence simply needs to be logical and within the Constitution.
Additional lawyer yammering and court cases MUDDY the process. Potentially giving Lawfare an angle to screw up “best intended lawsuit(s).

Doesn’t matter if someone has leverage over him, Pence that is. Doesn’t matter death threats or anything else.
The fraud MUST stop and Pence knows it.
Except if Pence is a black hat, then he doesn’t care about any of that, at all. He’s not going to go rogue, he is going to follow his orders.
And if Pence is a white hat, and Trump tells him to declare DJT president-elect, Pence will do that. And if Trump tells him to declare Biden president-elect, he will do that too.
Both sides have a plan.
What Pence does depends on whose side he is ultimately on.
If he is a black hat, then almost certainly he has orders to declare Biden president-elect.
If he is a white hat, then it could go either way, depending on which route DJT wants to take.
If DJT wants to create a giant %$@#storm and then play defense for the next two weeks (why?), then DJT could order Pence to declare Trump president-elect.
If DJT wants keep a low profile, like an attack sub, and stay on offense, then he orders Pence to declare Biden president-elect.
It doesn’t matter either way what happens on January 6th, because ‘declass’ proves fraud, and fraud vitiates everything.
DJT is going to win either way.
So the determining factor is this: what outcome on January 6th is best for the President’s objectives between now and January 20th?

There is good precedent too: Thomas Jefferson in 1800.

Thanks for asking patfrederick. I’m okay, but exhausted. Mom died peacefully this morning at 12:30a.m. We kept 24 hour vigil since the morning of Dec 24 – three of us taking shifts. We all were there last night because it was clear that she was going.
I took the night shift, and didn’t get much sleep throughout the days. So, I am going to spend the next few days in bed.
Funeral, and burial is tentatively on Monday. May I ask your prayers for good weather as we will be travelling about 100 miles to bury her in the village where we grew up, and where Dad is. We now live in the city…

Many would rather sit back and watch a show than get down and dirty in the active, in person, offline political world of their own town, county and state.
Some, not all (and not speaking to anyone specifically but to the general MAGA public -remember that many read who never comment so rarely do I think of the audience as just the regular commenters, much less the specific person to whom I am replying) … some have been passified, mullified by Q rather than informed, motivated, encouraged and inspired to do more political activism or to become involved in politics.
There is a time to Stand … but only after having done all.
Long conversation yesterday discussing the possible agenda for our local GOP and how to impact the state which then impacts the nation … and if a fraction of MAGA voters in every county, in every small pond, across the US did the same, kept their county/smal pond clean and drained so their county GOP is not a feeder mini swamp, what a difference that would make in the DC swamp. Very excited about the difference we will make in 2021-22.
We can not abandon the GOP or surrender the GOP to the everwaiting and always active GOPe. Participate. Know who your county officiers are. Be a member who can then vote for county officers. Be a member and vote for the officers … or be enough involved that You, an informed MAGA conservative, become an officer! Be involved in the rules committee for the bylaws. Know and vet the SEC members and know what happens with their bylaws. Fight for fair primaries at every level. Develop an active online pressence that can be judiciously used (can’t educate on every subject) to be effective when needed for MAGA.
Be inspired by President Trump to MAGA, each in our own counties and states.

We live in a strong red area but you would never know it by our local newspaper. The letters to the editor are at least 90% anti-Trump, the editor is a lefty and takes his direction from the publisher, living in another part of the state more liberal.
Our local GOP is worthless, as far as I can tell, but sorry to say I am unwilling to jump into the fray at this point in my life. Been there, done that for decades and am handing over the responsibility to others that have more at stake than we do.

The GOP as an entity is dead and gone. Way too fractured to maintain the trust of the people, ever again. And that includes the local club houses. Example. Jeff Van Drew is my rep. – the guy who switched parties last year. He votes with POTUS every time. The GOP in NJ is so worthless that they allowed Van Drew to be primaried. Like you can’t talk amongst yourselves and get your collective head screwed on straight and see the bad optics? A joke. We need a new party, period.
I absolutely agree with this. Our local GOP club is submissive to the state people who come by and mollify everyone each month.
In NJ they can hardly manage to field a candidate that has any chance of succeeding. They recycle the same names, or leave local races with no candidate on the ballot. it’s like they don’t want to win.

Q has inspired people to take action. Q has shown that we are not alone, that there is hope, that the fight is worth it, and that winning is possible. There is NOT ONE ASPECT of Q that encourages people to sit back and watch. “Trust the plan,” yes, but that is not the same as being passive, and true Q followers know it. Q has told people to make memes and fight. The information provided by Q has helped people to know how to fight. We never/rarely used to see spontaneous boat and car parades, or patriots marching in various cities or following Congresspeople down the halls, videoing them and pressing them for answers. We have armies of digital soldiers who have vast influence, so much so that they are being censored. Any perceived inaction does not lie at Q’s door, and I fail to see how making statements like this could be thought to be motivating, which is part of the theme of your post.

How do you know “Q has done the opposite to others”? How do you know how people have reacted to Q? Please present some evidence of that. Because I’ve seen action, not passivity, in response to Q. So if you’re going to keep posting this, please provide some evidence besides a possible anecdote about someone in a meeting who says they’re just waiting.

The Q psy-op cannot help but make a few people “passive” by some people’s metrics – it’s a social, statistical, mass-psychology operation. Any such operation will induce some respondents to some kinds of measured activity, and others to some kinds of measurable passivity.
The NET EFFECT is what counts. I believe that the Q operation was close to optimal in that respect.
Note that ANY operation will have that result, statistically. For example (this is 100% hypothetical, but no different from MAGA Mom’s statement), HER OWN local activism could have the effect of getting people here to NOT bother becoming local party activists – for many reasons. Some may view her frustration as too high a wall to climb. Others may say “she’s got this – I can continue doing what I do because ‘she’s got things covered’ – etc.
In my opinion, many made “passive” by Q were INTENTIONALLY made passive – to prevent violence – to keep them from being manipulated by Democrats and ChiComs – to change them from random actives to focused passives spreading a patriotic message.
Bottom line – all good. Not worried that Q made many passive but focused where patriots needed them focused.

There will always be varied reactions to anything, human nature being what it is. It doesn’t “worry” me one bit if some people have been mollified by Q (though I haven’t seen evidence of even one). I don’t care if they have been. It’s that I’m tired of the preaching to the choir and the repeated assertions made without acknowledging that the other side might have a point. She did it in her response to me, “agreeing” with everything I said about people being inspired by Q, and then repeating her point without evidence. And some of her assertions come straight out of the Left’s playbook.
That particular poster comes here with a mindset and an agenda that is not open to others’ points of view and seems impervious to what others think. It is gratingly annoying. There is very little meaningful back-and-forth; just assertions made and repeated in the future. It’s like drive-by posting.
What she does in local politics, and what she writes about it, has no effect on me. I do what I can and wish her good results with what she does. I seriously doubt that anyone here thinks she’s got it covered; I don’t need to do anything. People are going to do what their particular set of skills and their heart tell them to do.
If you can name one person or entity that has been mollified by Q into inaction, please do so. I’d like to know who they are. I’ve seen people greatly inspired by Q, people using Q to boost their viewership, people trying to make money off of Q, people afraid of Q’s influence and discrediting it, people who think Q and patriots are taking too long to get results, people who are angry with Q, etc.; but I’ve not seen one who says, “Q’s got this. I’ll just sit back and watch.”
This is not about Q or some perceived need to defend Q; it’s about someone repeatedly presenting an idea that does not comport with my reading and experience, without presenting evidence. Why come on a site that supports Q and say this:
What is the purpose of that? If someone who knows me thinks I am being too passive, I’d much rather they just come out and say it. I can agree or disagree, learn from it if needed, or ignore it if I think it invalid. And that goes to this point: To my knowledge, that poster does not personally know one person here. She cannot know what people are doing or not doing, what their life circumstances are, or what their sphere of influence is. If some people are passive because of Q, what are we supposed to do about that?

I’m talking about people who run county or state party organizations; many of whom work for free. But politics is their hobby; they genuinely enjoy the wrangling and maneuvering.
But as for the office holders–the ones who have been there forever, the Mitch McConnels and Chuch Schumers–must actually enjoy this or they could retire and be well off–the salary continues forever for them, and the wealth they built up under the table should surely be enough for people in their 70s to never have to worry about money again.

Have swept the local GOP Hdqtrs’ floors, been precinct chair, County Sec’y, State Delegate to Nat’l conv, Campaign Chair for Gov candidate, etc. You name it… been there, done it. Never found it boring, was always fun. Not so involved in 2000s as first grandchild came in 1989, and then started taking care of terminally ill family members in 2002… and beyond. I believe the State level is where it all goes to …………. at least that’s my observation here in SC…

Who Congress decides is the president elect, is the president elect, and the Constitution states that that person’s term starts on January 20 at noon (20th Amendment). That amendment specifies what happens if the president elect dies before he can take office, or “fails to qualify,” other than that, that’s what the Constitution says.
[You might say that’s the wedge that Trump will use to stay in office, but the 20th gives it to Harris to act as acting President. If Biden “fails to qualify,” though, then she would fail as well. At which point it goes to law passed by Congress…and at no point is the exiting president, or the failed candidate for president, in that line of succession.]
Any attempt to thwart that outcome, at that point, is a violation of the Constitution. The courts, for instance, cannot intervene; there’s zero provision for them to do so. One can argue about whether such an act is morally justified under the present circumstances, but there exists no constitutional justification for it.

The vice president elect then acts as president until a president shall have qualified (Amendment XX); that, in such a scenario, would be Harris.
If she, too, is indicted for that or something else, then the XXth amendment kicks it to Congress.

Absent that, the law I am aware of simply doesn’t allow for that; he’s not on that line of succession, which you can dismiss if you like, but IS the law.
The ONLY route I’ve thought of is if he appoints himself to his own cabinet (and that’s assuming it’s even legal to do so) having indicted and arrested everyone else in the line of succession before him. That, of course, relies on someone not PDJT to do the indicting.
Actually, I just had another thought. Everyone before Pompeo gets arrested. Pompeo is now Acting President on the 20th. He arrests the new speaker of the house and the new president pro-tempore of the Senate, appoints Trump Secretary of State, and resigns. But even this would technically NOT be Trump succeeding himself for a second term; rather Pompeo would get the record for shortest-serving president ever (five minutes?), and likely keep it forever, and Trump would be counted as the 45th and 47th president, a la Grover Cleveland.

The process itself has safeguards against corruption, so we know the Founders contemplated the possibility of corruption. But those rely on most of the system not being corrupt. Aside from the whole process of electing a president: for example, Congress can expel one of its own members for being corrupt; but that assumes a non-corrupt majority willing to do the right thing.
Did they anticipate the possibility of the system being so corrupted that the safeguards themselves were overcome? I think so, but they didn’t put that into the Constitution–and rightly so; if it’s corrupted then it can’t fix itself. Look to the DOI to find out what the Founders thought would have to happen in that case.
The Constitution makes little to no allowance for people to suspend it in times of emergency. I seem to recall some one sentence about suspending one legal right in case of an emergency but can’t find it. Nothing about arresting people to overturn the process of a presidential election if it has gone bad.
We’ve been using the argument that a pandemic (even a real one) wouldn’t suspend the BOR. Does some other emergency justify suspending other parts of the Constitution?
We could find ourselves in the situation of a coup being staged, for the purpose of sweeping out the trash by doing things that violate the letter of the constitution, and then restoring Constitutional rule. (Such has happened in other countries.) But make no mistake, it’d be a *restoration* not a continuation, after an *interruption*.

It has long been observed that during wartime governments tend to assume a bunch of powers, some of which they don’t give up afterwards. It’s understandable; wartime is an existential crisis (well, it was up to and including WWII).
I had the notion of, upon declaring war, switching to an alternate constitution that applies for the duration of the war; then returning to the old constitution, which would be written to guard against “stretching” government power over time. All the powers assumed during the war, having happened under a different constitution, would thus automatically be null and void.
Of course there’d have to be precautions against a permanent state of war (such as sunset clauses), and so on.

The key is for Congress to raise enough objections to have thorough hearing on the election. Every Objection with a senator standing behind it will give us 2 hrs of debate. I’d expect to see at least 80 hours if our Congress is true and coordinates there objections by not making them all the same. With that the whole election can be tried in a series of 5 min talks half of which we control. Biden ends up getting plastered in fraud and POTUS gets cover for doing what he must.
So what happens if this is simply dragged out?
The Speaker of the House becomes acting president. And if not her, then the president pro-tempore of the Senate. If not her, then you run down the cabinet.
Trump does not simply remain president, even if we run out of list. His term ends on the 20th of January, even if no one else has been sworn in.
In the end, Trump is President until noon on the 20th of January. He WILL do whatever he has to to save the Republic. If for NO other reason, then because of his ego. Will he accept to be remembered by History as the man who presided over the end of The United States Of America because he allowed voter fraud to steal his legitimate election, thus handing the Country over to the Cabal? I think not. SOMEONE has said to us repeatedly: “expand your thinking”.
This is why I am thinking whatever the save is, it’s got to on or before the 6th. It could be a combination of dragging out the process in Congress then arresting people, or arresting first.

The hypothetical Acting President Grassley is the first tolerable person on the list (though who knows, maybe he’d be arrested too), and Pompeo would be better, but again, Trump is NOWHERE on that list after January 20 unless the Congress declares he won the election on the 6th (if that’s the case, there’s no issue at all). There’s no legal scenario for him being in office at 12:01 PM on the 20th if he is not declared the victor by Congress next Wednesday–unless he appoints himself to the cabinet!

Sure, some of this may seem far-out, but we are dealing with a strategic genius who has had access to classified intelligence, spook and spy agencies and programs, and who knows what all. Trump has money. He probably has intel mercs on his own payroll. Retired “specialists.”
I am, for now, trying not to get too far out in my worry, because I don’t know what I can’t know.
That would be a fine legal mess. I hope whatever Trump’s plan is, it doesn’t include this.
On the one side, the decision by Congress is constitutionally final. On the other hand one could claim that due to the fraud it’s vitiated, but for that to happen–some court has to find that there IS fraud. From the standpoint of our system, it’s not fraud until a court finds it so, just as one is innocent until proven guilty, no matter how much video footage is out there showing he did the crime.
And then the court would have to rule that the fraud issue overrules the plain text of the Constitution.
This assumes that the court doesn’t just decide to back off, not hear the case, and let Congress’s decision stand.
If they DO look at it, who knows how they would decide “Text of the Constitution” vs. “Fraud Vitiates All” and, if they do decide to toss Congress’s decision, what their remedy will be. I wouldn’t dream of trying to be as creative as a deep state judge.

Maybe you meant to include arrests.) Instead she’s talking about specifically charging people with fraud.
I think someone would still have to go to a court and say, “Hey, you see all these charges of fraud? You gotta delay the inauguration, at least until that works its way through the system.” Because, again, it’s not “fraud” as far as the system is concerned, until a court rules it is fraud. Otherwise it’s an allegation of fraud.
And of course we’re about 0 and 9,143 or so on getting a court to actually look at fraud evidence, much less rule that fraud has occurred.

I think you’re not understanding the process.
If there is an objection by BOTH a house member and a senator (there needs to be one from each), then the joint session breaks up for two hours while each chamber decides whether they agree with the objection. If they don’t both uphold the objection, the ballots stand and are counted. And I see no way they would both uphold the objection.
That’s what happens if Hawley and some senator both object; that’s in the law and Pence can’t do anything at that point.
What people are suggesting/hoping Pence will do actually comes BEFORE this. If Pence refuses to accept the votes, the notion of Hawley objecting is moot; he wouldn’t have anything to object to.
Pence needs to just keep accepting objections.
If we get enough he can come back from his trip and decide the outcome then.

I certainly agree. I have bad asthma (& pneumonia?) I am treating it at home instead of going to the doctor to get prednisone & an antibiotic as I did a couple years ago.

I find the health-care-worker dancing repulsive. All health care is serious business. We’re supposedly in the midst of a deadly pandemic, and they’re dancing. If they’re in a hospital parking lot, there are people inside who are dying. It’s disgraceful, IMO.

The only way I can think of where it might be appropriate is if you are OUTSIDE of the hospital with no one in the system in danger of dying, not holding vigil, and thus you’re simply hoping they aren’t going to be crumbling under the pressure. From that vantage point, it’s probably a good thing to see that morale is high on the front lines.
But for anyone else more deeply involved…you are 100% correct!!

1) The video shows outpatient office and facilites that are shutdown due to the shortage of beds and shortage of staff.
This is not a ward where covid 19 patients would be taken care of, so it being empty is irrelevant. This are offices for day appointment and outpatient procedures.
Hospitals are doing less outpatient and day procedures so that resources such as staff can be used in other areas of the hospital (staff shortages are due to staff illnesses and due to school shutdowns/staff staying home to care for their own children) and to reduce the need for beds when day procedures have complications.
Sections of a hospital being empty has Zero to do with bed capacity status.
2) Much of what the video shows, such as the gift shop and canteen being closed, is only showing the impact of No Visitors Allowed policy and has Nothing to do with bed occupation capacity.
This isn’t medieval times plague realities – the setting of paintings of crowds of people dying in the streets or crowded hospitals with every inch of space taken over. Looking for dramatic hospital scenes to prove a pandemic is focusing on unrealistic expectations of what a pandemic looks like in 1st world countries.
Logic – hospital beds can be filled to capacity and yet no gift shops, waiting rooms or doctor’s offices filled. Also, “capacity” means physical beds + staff. Capacity is reduced when staff shortages occur.
Good questions to ask?
-Is it necessary to shut down doctor’s offices and day procedures despite capacity or close to capacity in the wards/in patients?
-How much of the staff shortages are due to the covid19 and how much of staff shortages are due to gov “mitigations” such as school closings?
We have to start with logic and facts or we don’t ask the right/needed questions. And drama of a closed gift shop, canteen, waiting rooms (no visitors so the waiting rooms even on Full floors will still be empty), parking lots, closed doctor’s offices, etc., are proving nothing of value and certainly do not prove that the wards are empty.

THIS GUY, JUST proved the FRAUD in GA, and WHY we can never be allowed to inspect the ballots.
Mr Pulitzer is the inventor of the QR bar codes used on the ballots. He say UNEQUIVICALLY that in 2 hours he can go through each ballot in GA, and tell us WHICH are FARE, from a non certified printer (China) and if they came from a mass copier OR the original print shop.
He found out that in Fulton county, now where a lot of the fraud was done in GA, there were TWO different sets of physical ballots, ONE for Democrats with NO QR code at the top, and one for Republicans that DID have a QR bar code at the toip. ALSO on the bottoms, the other bar codes were DIFFERENT for Repulicans and Democrats, in the SAME COUNTY.
That my friends is a VIOLATION of EQUAL protections. ALL ballots are supposed to be EXACTLY the same in EACH state, county by county.
Remember when we here talked of machine code, and micro printing, and QR codes? We NAILED IT.
They HAVE THEM in GA. They JUST certified, and testified in COURT to FRAUD.

After so many flights, we passengers can pretty much do the safety presentation. When the flight attendants go out of their way to make it fun, it makes all the difference.
I do remember an FA who got on the PA and announced that we had reached our cruising altitude of 29,000 feet, six inches, then went on with the remainder of whatever boilerplate they had to recite.
Which I guess I remember because of a point that they inadvertently made. When measuring anything, there’s the question (which scientists will fuss over, in other applications you can generally ignore it), of significant figures. “29,000” actually sounds like someone is just rounding off or being imprecise, giving only two significant figures–and the FA was pointing that out, in his way.
But the fact is, in aviation, it really does mean precisely 29,000 feet*. Pilots are trained to nail that, and the altimeter will show you’re off if if you’re off by…well, not very much at all, even ten feet would be visible on the altimeter in a Cessna 172 and airliners no doubt can do better than that. Joe Bloe who is just a private pilot won’t sweat ten or even a hundred feet, probably, but an air transport pilot is expected to be much more precise.
True story: The first time a surveyor measured the height of Mount Everest, by triangulation from afar, when he crunched his numbers, the answer came out to be literally 29,000 feet (to within half a foot). He knew he was expected to publish to the nearest foot, but he also knew what would happen if he published that; he’d be accused of estimating it. So he added two feet to it, and for decades the official height of Mt. Everest was 29,002 feet.
(*OK, I put in an asterisk, so I’ll explain it. When flying in Class A airspace, i.e., above 18,000 feet MSL, one sets the air pressure on the altimeter to 29.92 inches of mercury, regardless of what the barometric reading actually is. Since the altimeter functions by comparing the actual air pressure to sea level air pressure, you would normally need to tell it what the barometric pressure is at sea level–in high pressure systems, you’re likely to be telling the barometer the air pressure is something >30. But this is really only critical near the ground, where something hard might hit your aircraft if you get your altitude wrong. If you’re tens of thousands of feet up, who really cares? So by convention, you set your altimeter to 29.92 way up there, and fly based on that, instead of constantly fiddling with your altimeter (especially going through a warm or cold front). And you fly based precisely on what your altimeter tells you. Technically, you’re not flying at 29,000 feet, you’re flying at “flight level 290” which by definition is where an altimeter set to 29.92 inches tells you you’re 29,000 feet up. But the flight attendant isn’t about to explain all of that to the passengers!)

I/we attended our old church to see our daughter lead worship the first time ever (someone got sick so she got asked at the last minute). One of the elders/deacons was being a mask nazi (daughter had prepped us for how it would be). At the end I checked the mask box prominently displayed at the entrance & it was from China (wonder if it was filled w/ CV to help infect the unsuspecting masses?).
For the record it is quite challenging to sing, or function, with masks cutting off the air & it is downright depressing & discouraging to miss the bulk of people’s facial expressions. A young family masking all their grade school & younger kids was truly tragic…sigh…I guess I’m still regrouping from that experience–daughter’s worship side of it was a true blessing though!

people had carts stacked to the top and overflowing…2 people in front of us, was a woman who bought 4 of every item she bought–except for eggs–she bought 10 DOZEN eggs. she was an older woman–older than me even–so not sure who she buying all the groceries for…spent a little over $400.
the older gentleman in front of us, had a half gallon of milk, a loaf of bread, soy sauce, some gravy packets, and a couple quarts of motor oil. he struck up a conversation, despite the masks–not social distancing at all–about the craziness going on in the country. socialism, he said with obvious disgust. shaking his head, guess we better get used to it he said. I asked why? why not go to DC on the 6th like the President asked us to? why accept it? not gonna help was his answer…

If a person is shot and dies on the operating table from heart failure during surgery (surgery is hard on the heart as are the meds on needs for surgery), the murderer is still charged as they would not have been in surgery had they not been shot.
If a person dies while undergoing emergency surgery post a car accident due to a drunk driver, the drunk driver is held for manslaughter (or similiar charges) as the person died due to the accident.
if a person succumbs to their injuries weeks later in the hospital after being injured from any number of causes, the initial accident is still the cause of death.
How is that not the same in this situation. Without Covid 19 the man would be alive today. He would not have needed X procedure/treatment had he not been infected with Covid19.
Many who die of cancer or Alzheimer’s disease or even of AIDS don’t literally die of the 3 diseases but die due to complications of the diseases – organ failure due to long term drug/medicine usage, heart failure, pneumonia, etc. and yet they still died of their diseases which caused the complications that made the death happen at that moment.
Same with Covid19 which leads some to have heart failure or lung complications – direct results of having covid19, of damage from covid19.
I really don’t understand the importance or significance of differentiating exactly how Covid19 is killing people. If they would be alive today without Covid19 then Covid19 killed them, right?

Does COVID cause heart attacks? I’ve never heard of one case or read of heart attacks being a symptom.. So if someone dies of a heart attack during a procedure, they died of a heart attack, not COVID, nor any other conditions they had.
We also do not know why the person had to have a procedure. It might have been due to some other health problem and possibly even a heart problem. To call that a COVID death would be inaccurate.

Section 1. Extension of April 10, 2020, Memorandum. On April 10, 2020, I signed a memorandum detailing that countries that deny or unreasonably delay the acceptance of their citizens, subjects, nationals, or residents from the United States during the ongoing pandemic caused by SARS‑CoV-2 create unacceptable public health risks for Americans. I determined that the United States must be able to effectuate the repatriation of foreign nationals who violate the laws of the United States. Lots of discussion floating around today about the future of the GOP, which I think is done, kaput, history. Here’s a little story from NJ.
The photo is former Eagles OT Jon Runyan, who ran for NJ District 3 in 2010 and won. Ran again in 2012, served his second term and decided he was done. From everything I’ve heard he was VERY disillusioned with DC, and not being able to accomplish anything. He now has one of the VP jobs at the NFL. In many ways he’s like POTUS. Total outsider, already made his mega-money, very smart and driven, big personality, beautiful family, name recognition and on and on.
Fast forward to trying to unseat Cory Booker. You would THINK, would you not, that the GOP in NJ would be busting their collective ass to field a candidate that could actually DO it. I talked to everyone I know in local GOP circles asking if anyone had approached Jon Runyan? They have no answer, then give you the side eye like you’re suspect somehow, and change the subject. And who do they wind up with? A primary between attorney/pharmacist Rik Mehta and engineer Hirsh Singh. Retread Singh runs for some big NJ race every 2 years. Of course Mehta lost to Booker.
In another comment today I mentioned Jeff Van Drew’s race. The GOP in South Jersey allowed Van Drew to be primaried, in this election, 2020. After reaping all the positive publicity of him changing parties, and the GOP reclaiming that seat (which was R for 25 years previous), they couldn’t even do the necessary meeting and talking to convince Bob Patterson (Bush speechwriter, longtime GOP crony) of the bad optics. I understand that he’s legally entitled to oppose him, that isn’t my point. POTUS endorsed Van Drew, that should be the end of the discussion.
The GOP is toast, and will morph into something new. Too many people are awake.
The GOP has been in desperate need of reform for years – but instead, it’s just gotten worse. People don’t even know that it is every bit as bad as the Democrat party.
One exception: I don’t think the GOP has sold out to China…

Life and death….our only BIL is not expected to live through the night; 101 year old uncle in hospital and fading rapidly; former (younger) neighbor died on Xmas day and our adopted “son” called Xmas Eve to tell us he us seeing an oncologist, waiting for biopsy results, but there’s a good chance he has extensive, rapidly progressing cancer. He spent Xmas Day and the next in Urgent Care trying to get some relief from pain.
The first two certainly not unexpected and because there’s no quality of life, there’s no regrets…it’s their time after long lives and the circle is almost closed.
The neighbor, a vibrant, active woman loving life and still giving so much of herself for others is sad…gone much too young.
But, the newly retired friend, who has enthusiastically taken up a life-long ambition to play the sax, who has gone through very rough times with a (now recovered) alcoholic wife and a troubled daughter plus a younger sister who died of cancer…this is tragically sad.
The ebb and flow of life’s cycle is undeniable and we are mere bystanders as it happens within our circle of family, friends and acquaintances. But, it’s a also a time to reflect on our own time here and hopefully make the best use of it as we can, all the while being grateful for each day.
Ive always noticed that just after Christmas through February there are a lot of deaths. People hold on through right now and cant after for one reason or another. Its a lot in your circle though. Peace and strength and good care are what I wish for you.
Truly not looking for sympathetic comments (but thanks), just reflecting about endings and beginning happening during this traditional times of ending and beginning. Rather ironical.
I understand that. My mother started asking me about this stuff…finally. my husbands father and stepmother are senile but functional and still not in good health(plus other concerns). Just the beginning of winter too.

I am so sorry you have lost so many in such a short amount of time. No matter how long our loved ones are with us, we are never really ready for them to go and will miss them until we join them again.
A reminder to cherish and enjoy our loved ones, both friends and company. So easy to take them for granted. I have learned to intentionally delight in my family’s company as if I thought I might loose them … because someday we will and we will want more time with them … so I enjoy the time with them now, valuing them and my time with them.
Yes, easier to let them go when they are older or if already very ill but tragic when they are still living a full or even semi full life.

I’ve tried to keep up with ‘current events’ since Trump came to Office, reading each day. Taking notes. Yet I still am too fuzzy on most of it as just the legal side is vast & complex. And then there’s politics, & base human nature. I also read an older blog on Club K missiles. And some 1st hand Holocaust writings.
I don’t like movies much, especially those ones where the actor is clinging to an unravelling root on the bluff of a Grand Canyon-like cliff. It feels like that. Our beautiful American society dangling in peril.
All I can say is I am grateful to have you here to read. I am praying of course. But d@mn this socks! I love America. I need her, we need her, the world needs her.

I believe Michael asked up thread what can you reasonably do to protest masks. This suggestion here may not be one but a mask might make it make it easier to do. Not that your going to go out of your way to do this, but while shopping if you notice any products made in china go ahead and bring them with you to the check out stand and return them to the cashier, informing that person you just realized they are from China and after considering it, would think better than to buy it. Then maybe take a closer look at your merchandise and see if you can’t find a few more items to surrender too. Remember if you at one of the scan and pay machines you can also call an attendant over and explain and have them take the offending merchandise back.
