Hope’s Answer
First Peter 3:15 says, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
In the immediate context, the apostle Peter discusses suffering for doing good (1 Peter 3:13–14). Persecution and suffering are to be expected in the Christian life (John 16:33), but a believer’s response to suffering should point others to Jesus. Peter emphasizes that Christ suffered and died to provide eternal life for those who believe in Him, and His example of suffering for doing good should strengthen all of us (1 Peter 3:17–18). Instead of fearing persecution, Christians are to make sure they suffer for righteousness’ sake, “honor Christ the Lord as holy,” and be prepared to give a defense of one’s hope in Jesus (verse 15, ESV). A believer should always be ready to tell others the good news of salvation in Jesus’ death and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:2–4).
Providing a “defense” or giving an “answer” for one’s hope is based on the Greek word apologian, which carries the idea of “defending” something as a lawyer would defend his case in court. From the Greek word comes the English apologetics, “the discipline of defending” the Christian faith. Notice that Peter does not say that the job of giving an answer is only for the pastor or professional apologist. All Christians need to be prepared to give an answer or defense when someone asks them the reason for the hope that they have.
Peter wrote to the persecuted Christians in Asia Minor. As they were undergoing persecution, their outward behavior demonstrated hope in Jesus—not a wishful thought, but a solid and assured faith (see Hebrews 6:19–20). The believers’ lack of fear in the face of suffering would have propelled others to ask about the reason for their faith, giving the believers a perfect opportunity “to give an answer.” When believers display their sure hope in Jesus despite their circumstances, others will notice (see 1 Peter 2:12).
To properly answer someone who asks about one’s faith, the Christian must use “gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience” (1 Peter 3:15). There’s no place for harshness or disrespect in a Christian’s life, especially as he represents Christ and gives an answer to explain his faith. Peter exhorts the believer to answer unbelievers gently, respectfully, and with the example of one’s life (cf. Colossians 4:6). Believers should reflect Christ’s teaching of gentleness and “speak the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15, NLT).
The command to “always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” presupposes a faith that causes us to live out our hope in Christ visibly before others. When unbelievers see a Christian’s great hope in the face of persecution or suffering, they will naturally want to know the reason for that hope (Matthew 5:16). We need to be prepared to share the gospel in a way that is gentle and respectful. The result will be “that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander” (1 Peter 3:16).
How would you answer that question?
A concise answer might be –
As a Christian, my hope comes from faith in Jesus Christ, who offers forgiveness for my sins, purpose in my life, and eternal life in heaven through His death and resurrection. This changes my perspective to a Christian Biblical worldview, giving me peace, joy and confidence in God’s love and plan, no matter what life’s challenges are.
The last paragraph is a good summation.

“My name’s Frank. I’m 64, a retired electrician.
Forty-two years I spent running wires through houses, fixing breakers, making sure people had light in their kitchens and heat in their winters. Never once did anyone ask me where I went to college. Mostly, they just wanted to know if I could get the power back on before their ice cream melted.
Last May, I was at my granddaughter Emily’s school career day. You know the drill — doctors, lawyers, a software guy in a slick suit talking about “scaling startups.” I was the only one there with a tool belt and work boots.
When it was my turn, I told the kids, “I don’t have a degree. I’ve never sat in a lecture hall. But I’ve wired schools, hospitals, and your principal’s house. And when the hospital generator failed during a snowstorm in ’98, I was the one in the basement with a flashlight, keeping the lights on for newborn babies upstairs.”
The kids leaned forward. They had questions — real ones. “How do you fix stuff in the dark?” “Do you make a lot of money?” “Do you ever get zapped?” (Yes, once, and it’ll curl your hair.)
When the bell rang, one boy hung back. Small kid, freckles, hoodie too big for him. He mumbled, “My uncle’s a plumber. People laugh at him ’cause he didn’t finish high school. But… he’s the only one in the family who can fix anything.”
I looked that boy in the eye and said, “Kid, your uncle’s a hero. When your toilet overflows at midnight, Harvard ain’t sending anyone. A plumber is.”
Here’s the thing nobody told me when I was young — the world doesn’t run without tradespeople. You can have all the engineers you want, but if nobody builds the house, wires the power, or lays the pipes, those blueprints just sit in a drawer.
We’ve made it sound like trades are what you do if you can’t go to college, instead of a path you choose because you like working with your hands, solving problems, and seeing your work stand solid for decades.
Four years after high school, some kids walk away with diplomas. Others walk away with zero debt, a union card, and a skill they can take anywhere in the world. And guess what? When your furnace dies in January, it’s not the diploma that saves you.
A few weeks ago, that same freckled kid’s mom stopped me at the grocery store. She said, “You probably don’t remember, but you told my son trades are important. He’s shadowing his uncle this summer. First time I’ve seen him excited about anything in years.”
That’s the part we forget — for some kids, knowing their path is respected changes everything. It’s not about “just” fixing wires or pipes. It’s about pride. Purpose. The kind that sticks with you long after the job’s done.
So next time you meet a teenager, don’t just ask, “Where are you going to college?” Ask, “What’s your plan?” And if they say, “I’m learning to weld,” or “I’m starting an apprenticeship,” smile big and say, “That’s fantastic. We’re going to need you.”
Because we will. More than ever. And when the lights go out, you’ll be glad they showed up.”

This is good news that should be spread around.
There is a serious caveat that should also be impressed upon the young. In 1989, a 6.9 earthquake struck the heavily-populated San Francisco Bay area [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Loma_Prieta_earthquake ]. It killed 63 people and injured 3,757 more.
About 14 years later, a 6.6 earthquake hit the lightly-populated Kerman province of southeastern Iran [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_Bam_earthquake ]. It killed 34,000 people and injured about 200,000 more.
Why did a smaller earthquake in a less populated area kill so many more people? In two words — “building codes”.
The building trades are not for stupid people doing random stuff. They are full of intelligent problem-solvers who know what the rules are and when to bend them for emergencies…..and know how to put them back to finish a job properly.
My across-the-back-fence neighbor was from Dubrovnik, Croatia. He and his brother went back and built a California-style home there. Everyone laughed at them, saying that they’d been building local houses a certain way since 1622. They replied that they wouldn’t want to live in a traditional home there because they wouldn’t feel safe. I haven’t heard it’s been tested, but I’d guess that it’s still standing.
This explains those very disparate figures! I’ve always wondered why those foreign earthquake death tolls are so high.
One other thing to be aware of…..
It’s intentionally made not obvious, but someone’s ability to be a contractor is based on their ability to contract for a job.
Let’s say that you were a property owner, and you wanted a 100-foot fence. A random passer-by told you that it would take about $800 of lumber and about $300 of labor. Or may be you figured that out yourself — it actually doesn’t matter. A contractor can give you a bid to build your fence for $1,100, and enter a contract to do so if you accept his bid. If he can actually build the fence for $1,000, he gets an extra $100 for nothing; On The Other Hand, if he builds the fence for $1,150, he eats the extra $50.
If he is not a contractor, he can still build your fence as a “handyman”. You buy $800 of lumber and pay him by the hour to build your fence. If his hourly rate is $50/hour and he takes seven hours, you’ll owe him $350 for labor and the total cost of your fence will be $1,150.
Being a contractor requires that your job estimates be very accurate and your resources be very reliable. It is NOT THE SAME as having skill in a trade. Further, the difference between a “plumbing contractor” and a “plumber”, an “electrical contractor” and an “electrician”, or a “building contractor” and a “carpenter” are equally wide.
A Handyman can contract for small jobs. Last time I checked locally, the limit was $600.
Contractors can enter contracts for multi-million dollar jobs.
Ha! Not necessarily.
When I first moved here, we were shopping around for contractors to do remodel work. You know how they did it? They called it “time and materials.” No dollar amount. Just whatever it cost.
I was APPALLED. But people let them do it. When I said I needed an actual estimate, people told me the estimates would be sky high, if I could even get one.
As a result, over the last thirty years I have become a hell of a do-it-yourself-er.
It varies by state, county, and even city. In Kalifornistan the building codes (and restrictions) are onerous. In the Santa Clara Valley (which includes San Jose and a lot of Silly Cone Valley) they are downright draconian.
There are places where building or alterations being done without permit, or against code are condemned, and forced to be removed/torn down. It’s happened in Kalifornistan, and even over here. And insurance companies will not cover losses due to unpermitted work.
[Might work in WV, but not in most places. And, yes, in the 1970s I rebuilt a house in West-by-God from the ground up; plumbing, electric, framing, siding, roofing, interior (including finish work), etc. But I had the work inspected and signed off, also while I was doing it, just to be OK with TPTB. I highly doubt it’s the same now… (then again, neither am I… I’d go up on that roof and it’d be “fortunately the basement broke my fall” 🙂 ]
In NC you can do out building without pulling a permit. If you want to build your home you, as a homeowner can pull the permits. At least that was the case 30 years ago.
Homeowners are allowed to pull their own permits here, too.
Or just hire a handyman. After I fired the contractor on our kitchen remodel, I hired a handyman and we finished it together.
I’m sharing this with my family and friends, it’s wonderful!
And, show children, grands how to do stuff around the house, property..
Repair stuff, with their hands on… May take a bit longer, not as pretty or perfect. It will deliver benefits in future years.

We have a big event called “Logger Days” every year in a town near me. They have all kinds of events like this, all around the skills required for logging. It’s like a tree-cutter rodeo.
My favorite booth at one of those is one with the smallest chainsaw carving knick-knacks small enough to fit on a desk.
My grandson just joined the logging team at his collage.
They said he’s a natural at ax throwing. Left handed.

It is raining pretty solidly about now.
Unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, this is actually the same rain as Thursday’s rain, having gone to SoCal for Friday and Saturday, and coming back up to San Jose. It’s not supposed to reach Santa Rosa before blowing off to the east.
Our rain almost always blows in from the northwest. This is unusual to have it come up from the south.
That said, it’s not like a monsoon downpour or anything.
The news here says that SoCal has flooding problems, no doubt due to Gruesome Newscum’s burn scars… 😡 😡 😡 😡

The idea actually jelled for me when I heard a story about J. Michael Straczynski, the show-runner for Babylon 5. He’d pretty much invented all five seasons before starting to film and was known as a meticulous planner.
It turns out that someone broke into his office and tried to search through his computer. Knowing the story arc, which characters lived or died, or what kind of special effects might come up in the next 12 months could be valuable information.
Sad for them, they turned up nothing.
Pity they didn’t look at the shelf behind Straczynski’s chair and the 20 3-ring binders sitting there. It was all right there…..on paper…..a technology with which they seemed unfamiliar…..
So it seemed to me that the way I could keep passwords accessible, yet secure, was to write them down on paper and never have them on disk.

COMMENTARY FOR GENESIS 1
“Genesis” is a name taken from the Greek, and signifies “the book of generation or production;” it is properly so called, as containing an account of the origin of all things. There is no other history so old. There is nothing in the most ancient book which exists that contradicts it; while many things recorded by the oldest heathen writers, or to be traced in the customs of different nations, confirm what is related in the book of Genesis.God creates heaven and earth. (1,2) The creation of light. (3-5) God separates the earth from the waters, and makes it fruitful. (6-13) God forms the sun, moon, and stars. (14-19) Animals created. (20-25) Man created in the image of God. (26-28) Food appointed. (29,30) The work of creation ended and approved. (31)

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. The Optional Practical Training program is a cheap foreign-labor program for big companies and universities.
But it’s undermining young Americans.
It’s time to overhaul or possibly end this terribly broken program all together.
OPT boxes young Americans out of the workforce, discriminates against American workers in favor of foreign labor, and suppresses wages and job opportunities for U.S. graduates. It distorts our higher education system, feeds “visa mill” fraud, and threatens our national security.
Under OPT, foreign nationals can work in the U.S. on student visas for up to 12 months after graduation, and up to three years for STEM fields.
In practice, it’s become a shadow guest-worker program, with no caps, labor-market tests, or any meaningful limits or standards at all.
In this way, OPT essentially allows companies to bypass the (modest and insufficient) protections of visa programs like H-1B, and draw from a virtually unlimited pipeline of low-cost foreign labor.
Employers face no obligation to recruit or even consider Americans first.
The entire system rigs the game against Americans.
OPT workers are exempt from payroll taxes. That means that businesses are basically getting a tax break every time they hire a foreign worker over an American.
One study found OPT now amounts to a “$4 billion tax exemption.”
There’s another incentive for employers, too:
Foreign workers who want to stay here after their OPT ends need to be sponsored by a U.S. employer. As a result, they’re often uniquely compliant and hesitant to complain about subpar wages or conditions.

So of course, OPT participation has exploded. The program’s numbers have more than doubled since 2007. Last year, they reached all-time highs.

Most foreign students who enroll in these programs pursue degrees in STEM fields, and are hired by employers in the tech and STEM industries.
These employers argue this system is necessary to fill “worker shortages,” claiming they simply can’t find Americans to work these jobs.
The data tells a different story. American STEM and tech students have some of the highest post-grad unemployment rates of any major in the job market.
In early 2025, physics majors had the second-highest unemployment rate of any discipline among recent U.S. college graduates.
In fact, physics majors had more than DOUBLE the unemployment rate for majors such as philosophy, art history, and “ethnic studies”.
Computer engineering had the third-highest unemployment rate, closely followed by computer science and “information systems” in the top 10.
These programs aren’t just boxing young Americans out of our workforce. They’re boxing them out of our universities too.

Universities can often charge foreign students far higher tuition than American kids. So instead of serving our own citizens, our higher education system is effectively acting as a glorified labor broker, feeding foreign workers into U.S. jobs at Americans’ expense.
There is no tenable reason that American students and graduates should be forced to compete against an uncapped flood of foreign labor in our own schools and businesses—except to pad the profit margins of companies and colleges that view our own young people as an inconvenience.

Two: the chemtrails. Below are two photos taken from my property here in NW Durham County this morning. There were chemtrails planes all over the area here yesterday, including the overnight before yesterday. Same throughout the overnight last night. The weather around here has been dry and very little wind.
Then, yesterday, all of a sudden, the humidity dropped to about 30% by nightfall. Unusual. Then, last night, the Weather Service issued a “Red Flag Advisory” for high winds and very low humidity, with increased fire danger. Then, this morning, the Weather Service changed the advisory to a Red Flag Fire Warning for most of the daytime hours today. Humidity is now around 20% and the winds are kicking up, to be sustained 20mph – 30mph with high gusts.
Nobody can convince Yours Truly that the “fake clouds” in the photos below that I took this morning, are real. And they’re QUITE LOW in the sky.

PAVACA, I hope you find a place that gives you comfort like this little rural neighborhood where I live gives me. We get jet trails from the STL airport, but by the time they get here, they are very high (probably 30k feet), stay compact, and don’t come low and cover us with chemicals. Missouri has political issues it is working to correct, but Tennessee seems like a good choice.

Shooting at fleeing criminals is something that even police can only do under very specific circumstances. A homeowner who is not under threat of active attack by somebody, or who is not defending another innocent person from a similar threat, CANNOT fire on the perpetrator. My rule of thumb as a civilian is that a fleeing felon cannot be fired upon, unless that person is actively abducting somebody (even then, one had better be damned sure what is happening – that the presumed abductee is not being legally held or rescued). The moment the perp turns back and raises a gun at you, however, you can shoot, but not until that threat materializes.
This guy will likely have to cut a plea deal, but he’s unfortunate that the perp died, because he’ll almost certainly do jail time.
It is utterly infuriating that the criminals will win money and punishment in this round, but the guy stepped into the poop willingly, by not knowing the laws governing his guns.
Bottom line – do not own a gun if you’re not willing to know the laws governing it use, and the safety rules that protect you from it. Guns are dangerous, and they can help you harm yourself in many, many ways.

We visited my Mom yesterday and we got to spend lunch beforehand visiting with my daughter and granddaughter (SIL was bringing in soybeans and corn that had sufficiently dried). She was so excited –she got an internship (unpaid of course) at a Vet’s office all next year. (She’ll be a senior in high school.) She’s already shadowing 2 vets in the area several times a week.
She helps with the goat farm–giving shots, trimming hooves–all that stuff–. She’s a farm kid, good student, works part time, on the soccer and track teams, student council–and pretty as a picture too. (None of her genes are from me…LOL)
She saved her money from birthdays. etc and her job and bought her first car.
Grandpa and I are so PROUD of her and all she’s accomplished!

IMO some sane people from our side need to reach out to her quietly and do an intervention. The “kindness” pleas are, subconsciously, IMO, her realizing that she fucked up, and feeling the anger of the MAGA community against her for betrayal. Christian forgiveness, quietly, can win this round.

MTG knows that what the Left offers is not “love,” and she knows you can’t cooperate with people who want to kill you and your country. She KNOWS this. If she remains in this position of cozying up to the Left, it’s going to destroy her inside as well as destroy her political career and any shred of integrity that might remain. She might be mad at Trump, but she knows the Left is not about “kindness” or anything of the sort.
Going to war with Trump was the stupidest move she could have made. And she knows that too. She has backed herself into a corner. She does not belong anywhere near the Left, despite her current anger, and it will destroy her.

I still agree that Christian forgiveness would be the best route. I also think about the enormity of what she has done, and it’s hard to see a way for her to come back into the good graces of MAGA.
That would require apologies; yet she has just apologized to the Left. To reverse course would be extremely awkward. Even to continue to call for kindness while apologizing to Pres. Trump and MAGA for what she has done would be awkward and would look disingenuous.
When I think about what the people to whom she has apologized have done, I can’t imagine her coming back from that. They stole an election, which IMO is sedition, an act which affected every one of us and even the world. They impeached Pres. Trump twice on false charges. I could go on and on, but there is no need; we all know what they have done. And to now apologize to them for not being kind enough when they have not admitted to their own wrongs, nor have they paid for them, and while allowing them to continue on a path that will literally destroy the country, is, IMO, the attitude and action of an enemy to this country. And I mean that quite literally. The seriousness of both what they have done and of her letting them off the hook can’t be overstated. She is a Benedict Arnold.
Pres. Trump has said this started after he recommended she not run for the Senate because of her poll numbers. If she is so petty and emotional as to lash out at him, and the country, over that, then she let her ego get out of control and has no place in leadership.
MTG needs to find a new line of employment, because she no longer has a future with America First.

Yeah, well, I live in Montana. Any old rancher will tell you that the way to raise beef is to finish it on grain. Grass-fed is not how I prefer my beef.
And if you are running your cattle on pasture, that is regenerative. They eat, they poop fertilizer. You move them to another pasture, where they do it all over again. No sane rancher ruins his grazing land.
Regenerative farming is mostly for land growing crops instead of livestock. Crops deplete soils, livestock enhances them.
Which is why small time farmers who raise a variety of livestock and plants are much better for the land.
That parasite is a great excuse to buy South American beef [from Argentina, IIRC] while we get it under control.
Ground bison is $10-$12 per pound. No preservatives or hormones because bison is a national monument. I’ll be amazed if ground bison becomes equal to or cheaper than ground beef.

I agree with you on the fat/taste issue. In eastern WA state they mix it half bison and half beef for hamburgers. They call it beefalo.
When I first tried Bison it was a miracle food for me. Only quality lamb has something like half the benefit of Bison. Learning to make nourishing, delicious meals with pastured animals isn’t that hard.

As to the young people coming back to church, my goodness that has been true in our area. We are adding a third worship service on Sunday. Not just our church either. It is happening all over the region. Kids and young adults are figuring out the woke older adults are nothing but bullshizzers.
I reported earlier about the boom at the community colleges and tech schools around here. The kids don’t want debt and they want to go into the trades for the most part. Big, positive changes.
