Looks like corrupt Kalifournya, Colorado and Arizona are blacked out from service, along with the entire eastern half of the U.S., except for New England area, naturally.
Though the West Coast blackout line follows the CA/OR/WA border fairly closely, the Colorado blackout area seems to be unrelated to political borders at all. And New Mexico seems to only be blacked out in the Albuquerque area.

Did I ever tell you my Starlink story?
One Christmas about four or five years ago, my daughter, who lives in the “big (tiny) house” on my property, called me late in the evening literally freaking completely out. She was screaming “come out to the front yard!!!! There’s aliens or something!”
My sons, the DH and I all go flying out to the front expecting an invasion. And it WAS weird. There was a line of lights coming over the mountains, moving in a straight line for a ways, and then disappearing. And they just kept coming, dozens of them.
My oldest son figured it out. It was Starlink launching. It was nuts.
It reminded me of one time when I was about 15, my mom looked out our front living room window, screamed, grabbed me and my sister, yelled at my dad and dragged us out of the house. When we got out, I looked up and all I could see was a giant silver underbelly, about 100 feet over my house. I thought a plane was crashing, and so did my mom!
Turns out it was the Goodyear blimp, headed for some football game.

I saw video of the Starlink launches & it was pretty freaky, can’t imagine how strange that would be in person especially if you didn’t know what it was about 🙂
From what I can tell, Starlink is in low earth orbit, which means the satellites don’t spend all their time over certain places; the earth is rotating under their orbits and if there are enough satellites up, pretty much every place has satellites visible at any time. (This is true for GPS too though it’s in a higher orbit.)
The only limitation to that is that a satellite never goes over latitudes greater than its orbital inclination…if the inclination is 70 degrees, its orbital plane is tilted 70 degrees with respect to the equator and it will go north of 70 N or south of 70 S. Starlink seems to be deploying to inclinations of as much as 84 degrees, so that’s pretty much global coverage. (Techically 96 degrees, but that’s the same as 84 degrees, retrograde.)
The other feature of the orbits is that they’re apparently sun-synchronous, which means the orbit will retain its orientation as seen from the sun, and so a satellite overhead at sunset will only ever be overhead at sunset.
Correction…it will NEVER go north of 70N…etc.

I have had Starlink for awhile now (about 18 months I think) and it has performed well. One dissatisfying aspect is that customer service is non-existent. I don’t mean poor I mean non-existent. They have an email link but I have never had anyone respond to any of my 5-10 emails. I quit sending them. There is no telephone connection that I have ever found. The present cost is $110/month. Speed varies but usually around 100 Mbps. As I write it is at 130Mbps. I live in the mountains.

I never listened to this music before, until just recently, thanks to one of the ‘reaction videos’, where I sometimes get exposed to something new (to me).
I’m not sure how to categorize it, except it’s like throwback music, almost like Motown soul or something from the early 60s, but with a more modern sound signature.
I wasn’t sure at first, but after the 2nd or 3rd time hearing her, it ‘clicked’, and I like it. It’s very catchy.
Some of the lyrics are not easy for me to understand, but her songs seem more about mood or attitude anyway, or a ‘vibe’, for lack of a better way to explain it.

Morality is the framework and governor over lust. Societies with religion as a strong influence condemn lust. The Christian church made lust one of the “Seven Deadly Sins.” The reason for that is, lust, being amoral, leads to immorality, which leads to all kinds of society-killing behavior. Morality is the foundation of civil society.
Porn activates lust. Lust is like hunger; it can be fed with “junk food,” but it shouldn’t be,” because it makes you sick. But without a moral framework to buttress against it, lust takes hold, and makes the person ill.

Likely more wide spread than just Virginia schools. This would be part of a Group Think thing, thus no special implementation required. All these so called educators hop scotch around the country talking to each other and spread their cancerous ideas at the speed of thought all greased up with their virtue signaling as they implore others to do the right thing or as Nike says, “Just Do It”.

According to the FDA’s own announcements, the agency intends to post materials related to the 26 January meeting two days prior — however, the announcements also state that if materials aren’t posted by then, they will be “made publicly available at the time of the advisory committee meeting, and additional materials will be posted on FDA’s website after the meeting.”
One has seen this “disclaimer” before other VRBPAC meetings.
Translation: “We at the FDA will do what we d@mn well please, we don’t have to let the American public see meeting materials before any meetings, and too bad.”
There are NO meeting materials posted online so far, except for the usual “this person can attend the meeting” waiver for Dr. James Hildreth, MD, PhD, of Meharry Medical College. He’s involved in clinical trials at the school for the Moderna COVID-19 “vaccines.” It also appears the VRBPAC meeting will have a “predictable effect” on funding for Meharry Medical College.

We’re all Wolverines here too! My dad was in the 1st graduating class of U of M Dearborn for his MBA, iirc, but also got a BS from Ann Arbor. 2 of my kids also attended UofMD & son-in-law graduated from there. 3 of my 4 kids were pretty active in the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship group on campus, in fact that’s how our daughter met her husband!
Hubby’s ancestor attended in Ann Arbor during the Civil War era (he didn’t know of his historical Michigan connection when we married) & later donated a bell for the bell tower (along w/ the President of Cornell & another big wig) but that bell was melted down in WWII for munitions I believe.

The story is that people would travel significant distances to have horse races. You’d have all these horses, accustomed to their herd, alone amongst a bunch of noisy stranger horses, in strange quarters, with strange people milling about.
It was found that bringing a companion along from home would keep them quieter, more comfortable, and better able to focus on the task at hand (winning races). So the general practice was to bring a goat along to keep the racehorse company.
Of course, this lead to chicanery (chicanery in horse racing — perish the thought!) where rivals would sneak in and steal other horses’ goats. This would lead the horses to be anxious, nervous messes instead of champions.
Incidentally, I have a friend in SoCal who keeps and breeds horses, two of whom were nicknamed “Uncle Horse” and “Niece Horse”. At one point, Niece Horse managed to escape and get into the neighbor’s property, where she promptly declared herself Queen of the Goat Pen and insisted that all the goats were now hers.
So it may be that Gail has enough goats for herself, but a local horse might want them all, and more….

Life = farm work. I prefer to get as much done in the winter as I can but I messed up my knee and so have been taking it easy while it heals… SOON back to clearing out fence lines and cutting down leaning trees.

We always looked at any wildlife sightings as special highlights of our hikes — anything from newts to snakes to wild turkeys to deer.
The trick is to see them first, so you can appreciate them. If you step on them first, they tend to react poorly.
