Right now I have just started 3 months of bandaging the foot of a pony with a very bad cut on the back of his heel.
After the first bandage change and almost eating that hoof, I called the vet for a tranq. I am too old to be dodging pony feet and the twitch had very little effect on the beast. Usually a twitch will work but not on this guy!
Actually a closed cell foam kneeling pad made for gardening. I bought several at the end of the last gardening season.

In a three body situation all sorts of counter-intuitive things can happen, such as asteroids that we seem to catch up to in orbit, which then suddenly put on a burst of speed and increase the gap…eventually almost catching us from behind. Then they slow down again and we catch up to them. This would be ridiculous in a two body sense but since we and the asteroid are both in elliptical orbits about the sun, the three body picture (relative to the Sun) makes perfect sense.

I can no longer find it, but a couple decades ago a group looked into state funding. For most states 50% or more of their funding was from the federal government and not from state taxes.

There are myriad explanations for why certain doctors continue to advocate for maintaining the current practice of “gender affirming care” despite the apparent harms. But I believe the most widely applicable explanation is that many of these doctors prioritize the transgender cause over the patients themselves.
This explains the disregard for legitimate concerns about the implications of the current practice on the individual patient and the tendency to dismiss any resulting harm as acceptable collateral damage. Essentially, as long as there is an increasing demand for “gender affirming care” (which corresponds to more trans people), the harm caused along the way is considered insignificant.
This also explains the lack of consistent altruistic concern for “trans-kids” that many of these doctors claim motivates their advocacy, especially when these same kids detransition and abandon the “trans” label.
It is important to separate the practice of medicine from the pursuit of social justice. One prioritizes the well-being of the individual and the other prioritizes the cause. We should be allies to the individual patients, not allies to the “trans community”. And by “allies”, I mean we should prioritize their best long-term interests instead of chasing the temporary gratification that arises from contributing to a “cause”.
Likely use that as an excuse for themselves to take the money and do the surgeries. “Well if society condones it” thing. These docs are at best one step above abortion docs and a couple steps below plastic surgeons.
Plastic surgery at least has some positive applications. Such as rebuilding faces damaged in an accident and restoring female figures after mastectomies.

My grandfather’s forehead was slumping into his eyes, so he had plastic surgery on his forehead and eyelids so that he could see. It was not a panacea, but it may have helped some.
