Author note: I was MIA most of the day with music commitments (if we didn’t love it, we wouldn’t do it). So, this is going to be on the short side. Yes, my hair reeks to incense, and I’ve sung more Latin today than in the past six months, but…five down, six to go. And…yes…I will end up renewing my Baptismal Promises four times by the time ham is served on Sunday afternoon.

And now for the business portion of the post borrowed from Tuesday:

Guidelines for posting and discussion on this site were outlined by our host, WolfM00n. Please, review them from time to time.

The discourse on this site is to be CIVIL – no name calling, baiting, or threatening others here is allowed. Those who are so inclined may visit Wolf’s other sanctuary, the U-Tree, to slog it out. There is also a “rescue” thread there for members of the Tree to rendezvous if the main site goes kablooey. A third site has been added for site outages of longer duration.

This site is a celebration of the natural rights endowed to humans by our Creator as well as those enshrined in the Bill of Rights adopted in the founding documents of the United States of America. Within the limits of law, how we exercise these rights is part of the freedom of our discussion. In that spirit, though, threats of violence real or hypothetical are out of bounds.

Fellow tree dweller the late Wheatie gave us some good reminders on the basics of civility in political discourse:

  1. No food fights.
  2. No running with scissors.
  3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.

And Auntie DePat’s requests:

If you see something has not been posted, do us all a favor, and post it. Please, do not complain that it has not been done yet.

According to the Church Fathers, Christ recited this while hanging on the cross. Probably in Aramaic, but this is translated from the Vulgate, which is the Bible translated by St. Jerome.

Psalm 21

Unto the end, for the morning protection, a psalm for David.  2 O God my God, look upon me: why hast thou forsaken me? Far from my salvation are the words of my sins.  3 O my God, I shall cry by day, and thou wilt not hear: and by night, and it shall not be reputed as folly in me.  4 But thou dwellest in the holy place, the praise of Israel.  5 In thee have our fathers hoped: they have hoped, and thou hast delivered them.

[2] “The words of my sins”: That is, the sins of the world, which I have taken upon myself, cry out against me, and are the cause of all my sufferings.

6 They cried to thee, and they were saved: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.  7 But I am a worm, and no man: the reproach of men, and the outcast of the people.  8 All they that saw me have laughed me to scorn: they have spoken with the lips, and wagged the head.  9 He hoped in the Lord, let him deliver him: let him save him, seeing he delighteth in him.  10 For thou art he that hast drawn me out of the womb: my hope from the breasts of my mother.

11 I was cast upon thee from the womb. From my mother’s womb thou art my God,  12 Depart not from me. For tribulation is very near: for there is none to help me.  13 Many calves have surrounded me: fat bulls have besieged me.  14 They have opened their mouths against me, as a lion ravening and roaring.  15 I am poured out like water; and all my bones are scattered. My heart is become like wax melting in the midst of my bowels.

16 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue hath cleaved to my jaws: and thou hast brought me down into the dust of death.  17 For many dogs have encompassed me: the council of the malignant hath besieged me. They have dug my hands and feet.  18 They have numbered all my bones. And they have looked and stared upon me.  19 They parted my garments amongst them; and upon my vesture they cast lots.  20 But thou, O Lord, remove not thy help to a distance from me; look towards my defence.

21 Deliver, O God, my soul from the sword: my only one from the hand of the dog.  22 Save me from the lion’s mouth; and my lowness from the horns of the unicorns.  23 I will declare thy name to my brethren: in the midst of the church will I praise thee.  24 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him: all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him.  25 Let all the seed of Israel fear him: because he hath not slighted nor despised the supplication of the poor man. Neither hath he turned away his face from me: and when I cried to him he heard me.

26 With thee is my praise in a great church: I will pay my vows in the sight of them that fear him.  27 The poor shall eat and shall be filled: and they shall praise the Lord that seek him: their hearts shall live for ever and ever.  28 All the ends of the earth shall remember, and shall be converted to the Lord: And all the kindreds of the Gentiles shall adore in his sight.  29 For the kingdom is the Lord’s; and he shall have dominion over the nations.  30 All the fat ones of the earth have eaten and have adored: all they that go down to the earth shall fall before him.

31 And to him my soul shall live: and my seed shall serve him.  32 There shall be declared to the Lord a generation to come: and the heavens shall shew forth his justice to a people that shall be born, which the Lord hath made.

SATIRE!

Have a good weekend!

Deplorable Patriot,

I want to thank you for another week of posts that we enjoy so much.

Oh, and —

That one is more about the history of the place. Here’s one that just wanders around —

And, for those jonesin’ for the roses, there’s —

you couldn’t pay me enough to go to Chicago

Chicago = No Go Zone for Slow Guy. (Blue Shitholes)

Hell, based on 2A, I avoid IL, NY, NJ, MD…

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Me, too. Illinois is a mess. Trying to pass through with a firearm is risky at best. Chicago is the worst. There’s a kind of phony mind control “no guns” utopia mentality that is periodically broken by reality, and then after people tell themselves “it was just black-on-black, criminal-on-criminal”, they go back to thinking they’re safe again.

We had a murder (shooting between vehicles) a couple of blocks away, last time we were there.

The whole place feels like Pritzker’s Alternate Reality.

mollypitcher5

According to my brother who goes up to see their daughter/family it’s weird. My niece is in her natural habitat, liberal utopia suburbia, surrounded by simmering rage filled low income areas, the trains are dicey…it might go good or it might be full of urine soaked freaks. Ubers are the same..might get a good one or a snarly foreigner

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

The suburbs are very nice – very “Hillary” – it all makes sense.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Definitely less risky in the southern part, but the laws there are still very restrictive compared to other states, and there is no reciprocity for concealed carriers from other states. Even completely disarming and storing firearms to Illinois standards, doesn’t guarantee that bad arrests won’t still happen (they often do), along with firearms confiscation. Nightmare stories abound. Basically, the Illinois LE can’t be trusted not to use a kind of 2A lawfare against outsiders. Best to just avoid.

And that doesn’t even get into the poorly signed and almost unannounced toll roads that photograph license plates and then track the people down for a shakedown. Convenient payments and penalties, but very scammy.

singingsoul1

I used to love Chicago but it is nothing what it used to be.

kalbokalbs

Applies to many cities that were nice to visit.

Now, D-Rat shitholes. Saddens me.

singingsoul1

Yes they ruin everything 🙂

I have not been to the one in Chicago. Many of these, I am discovering as I present them to you.

I have been to the one that I’m planning for next week……but spent far too much of my time in their collection of carnivorous plants (with behind-the-scenes tour) to be able to claim knowledge of the rest of the garden.

Idaho isn’t waiting for feds to solve illegal immigration, the legislature has dev. House Bill 753 which creates new crimes dealing w/ illegal immigration: Misdemeanor for 1st offense & felony for 2nd offense for an alien to attempt to enter the state of Idaho at any location.

It’s not a law yet.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Hope it is – and SOON!!!

Pretty simple, if you ask me [nobody ever does].

Just say that any alien without a green card or a visa is a trespasser in Idaho.

I do have some reservations about linking famous people to everyone they have taken a photo with because it’s often random and they don’t know everything about the person. But in Oprah’s case, what we see is lots of apparent hobnobbing with now-known abusers. IMO she has some ‘splainin’ to do.

pat frederick

was that story about her and her “girls” made up?
i forget the particulars but some charity/school she set up in another country to help young girls somehow was linked to something nefarious?

Thanks for that hymn, My Song Is Love Unknown – ! it really grabbed and wrenched my heart, soul, spirit – which needed a good wrenching. Oh how much work the Lord has to do yet in me…I can never comprehend or approach His kind of love.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Song_Is_Love_Unknown

My favorite choir….

My song is love unknown,
  my Saviour’s love to me;
love to the loveless shown,
  That they might lovely be.
    O who am I,
      that for my sake
      my Lord should take
    frail flesh and die?

He came from his blest throne
  salvation to bestow;
but men made strange, and none
  the longed-for Christ would know.
    But O, my Friend,
      my Friend indeed,
      who at my need
    his life did spend!

Sometimes they strew His way,
  and His sweet praises sing;
resounding all the day
   hosannas to their King.
    Then ‘Crucify!’
      is all their breath,
      and for His death
    they thirst and cry.

Why, what hath my Lord done?
What makes this rage and spite?
He made the lame to run,
he gave the blind their sight.
    Sweet injuries!
      yet they at these
      themselves displease,
    and ‘gainst him rise.

They rise, and needs will have
  my dear Lord made away;
a murderer they save,
the Prince of Life they slay.
    Yet cheerful He
      to suffering goes,
      that He His foes
    from thence might free.

In life no house, no home
  my Lord on earth might have;
in death no friendly tomb
  but what a stranger gave.
    What may I say?
      Heav’n was his home;
      but mine the tomb
    wherein he lay.

Here might I stay and sing:
  no story so divine;
never was love, dear King,
  never was grief like Thine!
    This is my Friend,
      in Whose sweet praise
      I all my days
    could gladly spend.

https://www.cmhi.com.hk/chinas-presence-in-us-shipping-ports/

https://thediplomat.com/2024/02/shipping-ports-and-chinas-new-maritime-empire/

IMO, if our government was involved it would be the side that plays for the ChiNazis team. Changing a normal shipping route and Port of Entry for products and potential weaponry where one has established a distribution channel is in play. All of the distribution from that Baltimore port has been disrupted. Who benefits from that?

We are clearly being infiltrated through the southern border with sleeper cells being set up nationwide in critical areas where infrastructure can be taken out. JMO, Baltimore was practice for the main events, just like the trade centers, COVID, etc.

Just on stray comments on news sites have I seen it mentioned. Comments that drew little attention.

Speaking of watch the water… there is this Angela Chao’s name has been popping up now and then. There is of course her death for watch the water, but also her life. At age nine she began to visit her father’s ships exploring the holds and ballasts areas. Later the Harvard MBA grad would run her fathers shipping company the Foremost Group.

Here’s the section on her career.

Chao worked in mergers and acquisitions at Smith Barney, now a part of Morgan Stanley. She joined their family business Foremost Group in 1996,[2] where she succeeded her father as CEO in 2018.[3] Foremost Group operates a global fleet of bulk carriers. As CEO, she became interested in adding more environmentally sustainable vessels that can burn alternative fuels to the company’s roster.[2]

At one point in her career, she was a member of the board of the Bank of China, a vice chair of the Council of China’s Foreign Trade and a director of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, a Chinese government-owned enterprise that makes ships for the Chinese military, Foremost Group and other customers.[2][9] She was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.[10] Chao was a founding member of The Asian American Foundation and the co-chair of its education committee.[2]

This woman was well connected.

RAC

“As CEO, she became interested in adding more environmentally sustainable vessels that can burn alternative fuels to the company’s roster.”

How many are doing this, maybe the Dali’s engine died because they were running it off crap…

“Definition in the USIn the US, the EPA defines alternative fuel as
Alternative fuel including gaseous fuels such as hydrogen, natural gas, and propane; alcohols such as ethanol, methanol, and butanol;>>> vegetable and waste-derived oils;<<< and electricity. These fuels may be used in a dedicated system that burns a single fuel, or in a mixed system with other fuels including traditional gasoline or diesel, such as in hybrid-electric or flexible fuel vehicles.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_fuel
****************************************

“In 2013, the consumption of vegetable oils and animal fats for foods in China was about 30 million tons, which generated 15% (about 4.5 million tons) waste cooking oils7. Seeking an effective and safe process to process such vast WCO is one of the most decisive issues for current society and converting WCO to diverse types of functional materials has become a major focus of research interest. Recent examples of its successful exploitation in non-food applications include as a feedstock in the manufacture of biodiesel”

IMHO The root cause of this and a lot of other bad stuff is the global warming lie.

New Jan. 6 Scandals: Julie Kelly on Destruction of Evidence and the DNC Pipe Bomb
By American Thought Leaders
28 Mar 2024
https://www.theepochtimes.com/epochtv/new-jan-6-scandals-julie-kelly-on-destruction-of-evidence-and-the-dnc-pipe-bomb-5611442
“Think about this: If you’re going to do an investigation into January 6, who’s one of the first people you would call to testify, even behind closed doors? FBI Director Christopher Wray—they never interviewed him. They never interviewed Steven D’Antuono, who’s in charge of the Washington Field Office who oversaw the entire January 6 criminal investigation.”
In this episode, I catch up with investigative journalist Julie Kelly to get an update on what we know, and still don’t know, about what happened on Jan. 6, 2021.
“Why did the January 6 Select Committee—why did they destroy evidence that they collected? Why are they hiding transcripts from witness interviews at the White House … and at the Department of Homeland Security? How possibly could text messages belonging to more than two dozen Secret Service agents and officials, including the director, just vanish?”
What are the charges defendants are facing? What was the level of government and law enforcement involvement? Why hasn’t the mystery of the D.C. pipe bomb been solved?
“If you would have told me that two years later—I think that was when we recorded that interview for the [Epoch Times Jan. 6] documentary—that we would still be talking about people being rounded up, investigated, arrested, charged, and convicted now in early 2024, even I would have had a hard time, I think, grasping that that would be the reality. But here we are, in February of 2024. The Department of Justice is now on pace to arrest one January 6 defendant a day this year,” says Ms. Kelly.

bakocarl

Where is the judge that will look at all this deceit, throw the entire case out and then follow up with indictments of the deceivers?

kalbokalbs

Great points.

I, We, have been wondering this aloud, at least since Russia, Russia, Russia was exposed for the scam it was.

~Ten years of DOJ FIB constant harassment of Trump, J6ers, conservatives…

Dozens of examples. Justice in America is mostly FUBAR.

Yes, the instrument of her singing voice. Which encompasses not only the components of the vocal apparatus, but also the lungs and the body in general. A singer uses the entire body in performance, even if the singer is standing still.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

JESUS – WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR US

How can we thank You for Your love for us
For what You have suffered – Oh, Sweet Jesus
It began with prayer in the Garden
You sweat tears of blood for our pardon

You taught us acceptance of Father’s will
You taught the importance of prayer still
You displayed how to be a servant of all
How blessed we are if we answer His call

You set out patience and perseverance
Your silence was notable adherence
We cannot imagine the perpetual pain
And all for our eternal life to gain

You exemplified unconditional love
What we struggle to be capable of
With each step to Your final elevation
Each part of You in abject ablation

Sweet Jesus – What have You done for us
Humiliating degradation thus
The agony had to be core complete
For propitiation – our sin to delete

The example of patient perseverance
Is one we must learn for apt adherence
We forget – we complain – of daily woes
You sorely suffered at the hands of Your foes

Our lives in turmoil – our nation in distress
There appears to be no end to the duress
And yet – when we think of Your sacrifice
All that we suffer is naught imprecise

Thus – If we turn the cross into a plus
We see clearly what You have done for us
The love displayed by Your outstretched arms
Anything we suffer – Your love disarms

Thank You, Sweet Jesus, for so loving us
For reopening Heaven – surely a plus
At the end of our lives here on Earth
A glorious reward of wondrous worth

Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

You have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant

Let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

It really says a lot about a man whose dogs repeatedly bite unsuspecting staff and Secret Service agents. And, it’s not good.
“Sick: Biden Cracks Joke About His Dogs Attacking Secret Service Agents”
“Harry Truman said if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog. I got one and it bit a secret service agent.” ~ FJB
Excerpts:Judicial Watch announced today that it received 269 pages of records from the U.S. Secret Service related to incidents of aggression by President Biden’s dog Commander, including at least 23 biting incidents. After one incident, East Wing public tours were stopped for approximately 20 minutes due to the blood on the floor from the attack in the area of the “Booksellers.”
Judicial Watch reported in February on the Bidens’ dogs attacking Secret Service agents, noting that a source claimed Joe Biden punched and kicked the dogs (excerpt)

In the real world a dog that habitually bites people is usually confiscated by animal control. The owners would have to correct the problem by confining the pet or put it down but not the Bidens. They’re above the law and below common decency

smacking down the maggot’s administration
article

A federal court struck down a Biden administration rule Wednesday night requiring states and cities to set climate targets for transportation.
Judge James Hendrix, a former President Trump appointee, agreed with the Republican-led states that sued over the rule that the Biden administration did not have the authority to require them to set the targets.
Hendrix argued that the administration was not authorized under law to include environmental benchmarks in states’ assessment of highway “performance.”
He wrote that the law referring to the “performance of the Interstate/National Highway Systems” refers to “the infrastructure’s effectiveness in facilitating travel, commerce, and national defense—not environmental outputs of vehicles using the systems.”
The rule, from the Federal Highway Administration, required state and local transit authorities to set targets for decreasing planet-warming emissions and report on its progress. It also set up a national framework for measuring and reporting transportation-related emissions.
A spokesperson for the highway administration, which is part of the Transportation Department, said the agency was reviewing the decision and figuring out next steps. The spokesperson stressed the administration’s commitment to combatting climate change.
Meanwhile, congressional Republicans cheered the court’s action.
“This was a clear case of blatant overreach by the Biden Administration from the beginning, and we commend the Court for its ruling,” Reps. Sam Graves (R-Mo.) and Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) said a joint statement.
They described the rule as an “unlawful attempt to circumvent Congress and force this one-size-fits-all burden upon every state and community across the country.”

The Lawless Biden Puppet Regime continues to operate and act illegally, passing un-Constitutional policies and illegal activities such as spying, harassing and (knowingly) falsely accusing lawful American citizens while turning a blind eye to the illegal migrant crime wave.

We The People have been screaming “That’s illegal!” for 4 years and they reply “Prove it to stop us!”. Hardly possible in the activist judge climate that exists to support the Crime Regime.

When 47 starts trying and convicting these criminals, all The Evils will yell and scream,” He’s going after his political opponents just like we said he would!”. And it will be glorious.

This was not written by me, but it touched me deeply… Sunday is coming. “He received 39 stripes because 40 was known to kill a man. They wanted him alive. They held handfuls of his beard, and hair and pulled it out by the roots. They wanted him alive. They kicked, punched, and spit on him for hours. Until there wasn’t a single spot on his body not covered in blood. They wanted him alive. They shoved a crown of thorns down on his head so harshly it stuck in his skin. They wanted him alive. After hours of being beaten, mocked, whipped, flogged, and tortured they made him walk with a cross. They made him carry it. A rough piece of wood with splinters digging into fresh wounds. They wanted him alive. They wanted him to feel every ounce of pain they could bring. He had to feel it in order to heal us. Crucifixion was historically one of the cruelest most tortured deaths a human could face. Hours upon hours of torture. Torture most of us can not mentally think of because the cruelty isn’t normal. It isn’t something our minds can comprehend. We celebrate Easter with pastel colors, happy children hunting eggs, and chocolate. Truth is there was absolutely nothing happy about the day Jesus died. It was cruel, bloody, and nasty. He could have stopped all of it. He could have called every angel in heaven to demolish every person standing and shouting “Crucify Him!” He didn’t. He knew in order to have a Sunday you have to have a Friday. He knew in order to have joy you have to carry your cross. He felt everything that day. He felt how your heart broke wide open when you had to watch your baby die. He felt how heavy your life was when you were staring down the barrel of a gun wondering if the man you called husband was going to shoot you. He carried the weight of the burden you have felt since your spouse died, and life just doesn’t seem right since. On that cross he held the rapist and murderers, the sinner and the saint. He leveled every playing field and said ALL of you are worth it. He knew he had to carry the cross. He never promised the cross you carry in this life would not be heavy. His wasn’t. His promise is that Sunday is coming. No matter how heavy Friday is. Financially, emotionally, mentally, or physically. Friday is heavy. That cross is weighing you down and you are about to crumble under its weight. His promise was simply this. He won’t make you carry it alone. What kind of king would step down from his throne for this? Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God did. For you. He did every bit of it for you and me. Oh yes, it is heavy. So heavy sometimes you do not think you can take one more step. But look up, because Sunday is coming.”

Beyond her injuries, Pichardo said what has affected her the most is her fear. She hopes New York City leaders will do more to make sure people are safe just walking down a street.

This isnt exactly true.
My insurance has gone up every year for the last 8 yrs. The companies want automatic 20-50% rate increases, per those ive talked to, bc of massive building into areas known for fires, floods, mudslides. I believe that this is intended by the commies to force all insurance to leave w only govt option left. Then, as people are unable to secure insurance, and cannot get a mortgage, developers w politicians in their pockets can swoop in. People w cash will have prime areas, developers will build beautiful eastern bloc tenement housing for the peons.

California Won’t Let Homeowners Insurance Companies Raise Rates, so They’re Leaving the State Instead

Reading insurance trade magazines isn’t everyone’s idea of a great time, but every Californian should pay attention to the latest news in that arcane world. “State Farm to pull out of 72,000 California insurance policies,” blared a Reinsurance News headline. State Farm provides nearly 21 percent of state homeowner policies, so this is big news. Last year, it stopped writing new homeowner policies. Now it’s “non-renewing” existing ones and getting out of apartment policies entirely.

Stories about the state’s crisis du jour have seeped into the mainstream media too. “The ongoing home insurance crisis in California is about to deepen as yet another company has announced its withdrawal from the state over profitability concerns,” explained Newsweek earlier this month, reporting on the exit of Texas-based American National.

However, the California Department of Insurance website’s top item boasts that Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara “protects policy holders affected by wildfires from non-renewals.” How’s that working out for us? The state’s insurance problems have plagued wildfire-adjacent homeowners for a few years, but it’s rapidly spreading to homeowners in non-wildfire-adjacent areas. The state’s “protections” are window dressing.

I don’t live anywhere near a forest, yet my latest renewal showed a near-doubling of rates. After talking to my insurance agent, I decided to just pay the higher premium and be thankful I received a renewal. Increasing numbers of Californians must now rely on the so-called FAIR Plan (Fair Access to Insurance Requirements), the state-created, industry-funded insurer of last resort—one that provides only barebones coverage.

Ok. Well we arent going to florida or texas.

Brave and Free

IMO it’s a combination, fraud going on with insurance companies and contractors. You can have hail damage from storms and the contractors come around and get you a new roof through insurance for free when everyone else pays full price. So you have 2-3 year old roofs being replaced when the damage is confined to a very small area of the roof.
15-25k is the going rate for a roof. If you don’t have the $ to have it replaced, you can’t get insurance. The insurance companies are demanding a new roof after 10 years or no insurance. Ronda “is” working on a solution to the problem, we’ll see what happens. In the mean time I’ve seen a number of people going without insurance coverage if their mortgage is paid off and there’re on a fixed income.

gil00

Ahhhh ok. Thats a lot of self fulfilling fraud.

From the article: “Part of the slow rollout is that the new chargers are expected to be held to much higher standards than previous generations of fast chargers. The United States currently has close to 10,000 “fast” charging stations in the country, of which over 2,000 are Tesla Superchargers, according to the Department of Energy. Tesla Superchargers — some of which have been opened to drivers of other vehicles — are the most reliable fast-charging systems in the country.

But many non-Tesla fast chargers have a reputation for poor performance and sketchy reliability.”

____________

So the options are pretty straight forward.

Either the gov’t can throw tax dollars down a toilet trying to reinvent the wheel, and fail continually, because gov’t doesn’t do anything well…

Or they could license Tesla’s product, mass produce a wheel that has already been invented and had the bugs worked out.

So naturally, the gov’t decided to go the route with zero chance of success, at the maximum cost to the taxpayer.

Because of course of they did.

Why did the Baltimore bridge collapse so quickly? Engineers reveal how the ‘flimsy’ structure came crashing down like a house of cards after being struck by the Dali container ship

…As first responders are still searching for survivors, many are questioning how the bridge could have collapsed so quickly, having stood since 1977.

Speaking to MailOnline, engineers explained that while the bridge was not inherently unsafe, its ‘flimsy’ structure meant it was prone to collapse if the supports were damaged.

Julian Carter, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, told MailOnline that knocking out the support pillar had the same effect as a house of cards coming crashing down.

‘When you take away one of the supports you get a catastrophic failure because all those parts that are interconnected suddenly become overloaded,’ he said…

What made the bridge so unique were the great lengths between support pillars.

With its longest gap between supports, or span, stretching 1,200 feet (366m), this made it the third longest stretch of unsupported roadway in the world.

Unfortunately, this same unique feature may have contributed to the speed of its collapse.

As Mr Carter explains, the Key Bridge is a continuous truss bridge, meaning it is held up by beams arranged into triangular shapes called ‘struts’.

When the weight of vehicles is applied to the bridge, that force gets spread out across the whole structure with every strut taking part of the load.

Because the gaps between pillars are so big, these supports need to be as light as possible so the bridge doesn’t collapse under its own weight.

‘They have very little redundancy and that means that every little bit is working very hard,’ said Mr Carter.

‘This one in particular has long spans which are continuous and that means that from one side of a support to the other, all the parts are connected.’

In combination, these two features – interconnected parts and low redundancy – mean that if something does go wrong, the results very quickly become disastrous.

Mr Carter told MailOnline that knocking out the support pillar had the same effect as a house of cards coming crashing down.

He explained: ‘This structure really relied on the strength from one side to another and once that’s taken away it collapsed.’

comment image

Once the pillar was hit, the weight of the bridge suddenly redistributed and overloaded the structure. This created a rapid collapse.

Dr Andrew Barr, a civil and structural engineer from the University of Sheffield, describes this as an example of ‘progressive collapse’ where the failure of one piece leads others to fail as well.

Dr Barr said: ‘In this case, the collapse of the pier caused the now unsupported truss above it to buckle and fall.’

This also explains why the footage of the collapse shows the Northern span of the bridge rising into the air before collapsing.

Since everything is held together in one structure, the truss pivoted on the remaining support pier like a see-saw before the forces became too great and the span collapsed.

According to the experts, it was almost certain that an impact like this would lead the Key Bridge to undergo a catastrophic collapse.

Bridge builder and civil engineer Ian Firth said: ‘The support is a very, relatively, flimsy structure when you look at it, it’s a kind of trestle structure with individual legs.

‘So, the bridge has collapsed simply as a result of this very large impact force,’ Mr Firth told the BBC.

Likewise, Dr Masoud Hayatdavoodi, a civil engineer and naval architect from the University of Dundee, says that ‘there is no question that the bridge would collapse due to the impact on the columns.’

Dr Hayatdavoodi added: ‘Bridges are not designed to withstand lateral loads from ships on their columns. While they may be able to withstand lateral loads comparable to water currents and wind loads from a small boat, the force exerted by the impact of a container ship is significantly larger.’

However, it is not necessarily the case that the Key Bridge and other truss bridges like it are inherently dangerous or poorly designed.

Rather, the Key Bridge was simply never designed to withstand a direct collision from a modern-day container ship.

The ship that struck the Key Bridge was the Dali, a Singapore-flagged container ship that had set out from the Seagirt Marine terminal at 12:30 that night.

At almost 1,000 feet (300m) long and 158 feet (48.2m) wide, this ship could easily be twice the size of those from 50 years ago.

Toby Mottram, Emeritus professor and structural engineer at Warwick University said: ‘Despite meeting regulatory design and safety standards of the 1970s, the Baltimore Key Bridge may not have been equipped to handle the scale of ship movements seen today.’

For most other people who use truss bridges, there is no reason to fear that your bridge may collapse unless it also happens to be struck by a container ship.

While it might sound far-fetched, Mr Carter told MailOnline that the risk can be compared to the nuclear disaster in Fukushima.

He added: ‘This is one of those events that happens occasionally, like Fukushima, where people in the industry have discounted a particular risk for whatever reason.

‘Now, suddenly, it has happened so people have got to recalibrate on managing waterways and managing traffic.’

scott467

“For most other people who use truss bridges, there is no reason to fear that your bridge may collapse unless it also happens to be struck by a container ship.”

______________

For most other people?

What about those who aren’t in the ‘most other people’ category?

And how does one know if they are in (or out of) the ‘most other people’ category?

It could be that I should fear truss bridges now, and not even know it!

TheseTruths

It’s one of those “safe enough” situations based on likely scenarios. But the one-in-a-million event DID happen.

TheseTruths

Trussbridgophobia…

TheseTruths

Gephyrophobia…the irrational fear of crossing bridges. (But if it’s based on actual events, is it irrational? 🤔)

mollypitcher5

Now if they could explain the sharp turn…it was said to be a slack tide..so choppy rough tide can’t be the answer.

TheseTruths

Right after it happened, there were reports about how difficult the situation was for the crew and that their efforts to avert the disaster involving the rudder and anchors could have caused the ship to move in opposite directions than they intended since they were without power.

It looks very suspicious, and I’d like to see discussion from experts about the possibility of remote control. (But they might not feel free to talk.)

There were no explosions to bring the bridge down. Since it hit a major support pillar, those were not needed. And any state actor would have known that, based on the design of the bridge and the materials used.

kalbokalbs

My guess.

Anchor dropped. Hit bottom and ship dragged the anchor. Causing a turn.

Slow Guys view.

Apparently the ship had no ability to steer.

Harbor Pilot should have let the ship continue on whatever course it was on, until clear of the bridge. THEN, let loose / drop the anchor.

I have NOT heard a word from the two Harbor Pilots onboard Dali. THEY are responsible for safe navigation while onboard the ship.

.

Obvious problem: if a ship hits ANY of the support pillars, the bridge is going to collapse.

Possible solutions:

1) pray that no one ever hits a support pillar

2) recognize that with enough time and traffic, sooner or later, SOMEONE is going to hit a support pillar, either by accident or by intent, and the bridge will collapse — so design to prevent that from happening

This looks like a good case for “and” logic.

“And” logic includes solution #2, but they only included solution #1.

So make the pillars far enough apart to allow for concrete or rock ‘guardrails’ protecting the side of the pillars that would make contact with a passing ship.

Either design the guardrails to absorb energy by controlled collapse and deflecting of force away from the support pillars, or design the guardrails to be strong enough to break the ship instead of the bridge (that would be my choice, because if the ship owners know the ship will sink if they hit the support pillar, then the ship captains will be much more careful not to hit the support pillar).

Nobody did either one, so this was a completely predictable event, and it’s amazing that it took 47 years to happen.

Last edited 8 months ago by scott467
cthulhu

If you look at the two pillars to the left of the circled one, then into the harbor a bit between them, you see this little white pillar…..surrounded by a ginormous guard structure.

One has to wonder why the little white pillar was more deserving of protection than the main supports of a structure that could be loaded with dozens of vehicles.

TheseTruths

Maybe that was part of the support design for the entire bridge, making the perimeter pillars very strong to help the bridge withstand smaller blows like waves or a slight touch from a tugboat. I’d like to hear from an engineer whether that was feasible for the middle pillars. There might be too large of an underlying structure to make it workable for the area where ships would pass through.
