A Caution
Just remember…we might replace the RINO candidates. (Or we might not. The record is mixed even though there is more MAGA than there used to be.) But that will make no difference in the long run if the party officials, basically the Rhonna McDaniels (or however that’s spelled–I suspect it’s RINO), don’t get replaced.
State party chairs, vice chairs, secretaries and so on, and the same at county levels, have huge influence on who ultimately gets nominated, and if these party wheelhorses are RINOs, they will work tirelessly to put their own pukey people on the ballot. In fact I’d not be surprised if some of our “MAGA” candidates are in fact, RINO plants, encouraged to run by the RINO party leadership when they realized that Lyn Cheney (and her ilk) were hopelessly compromised as effective candidates. The best way for them to deal with the opposition, of course, is to run it themselves.
Running good candidates is only HALF of the battle!

Gold managed to push up into the 3430s. (I got to re-use that part of the sentence from 5 weeks ago! The old sentence says “…on Monday/Tuesday” but this time it was Friday.) Gold up nearly $50 on Friday thanks to the fun in Iran; up over a hundred bucks over the course of the week. Silver dropped 3 cents on Friday but is still up for the week (not very spectacularly to be sure). As a result the gold:silver ratio has gone up. Platinum actually took a bad hit on Friday (down 67 bucks), but still up quite a bit this week. Palladium down a bit though it didn’t drop so hard on Friday. Rhodium up 75 on Friday but still down for the week.
*The SteveInCO Federal Reserve Note Suckage Index (FRNSI) is a measure of how much the dollar has inflated. It’s the ratio of the current price of gold, to the number of dollars an ounce of fine gold made up when the dollar was defined as 25.8 grains of 0.900 gold. That worked out to an ounce being $20.67+71/387 of a cent. (Note gold wasn’t worth this much back then, thus much gold was $20.67 71/387ths. It’s a subtle distinction. One ounce of gold wasn’t worth $20.67 back then, it was $20.67.) Once this ratio is computed, 1 is subtracted from it so that the number is zero when the dollar is at its proper value, indicating zero suckage.
A Couple of Videos of Some Interest
I gave a lot of Saturnian moons a bit of short shrift, on the theory that if you’ve seen one iceball, you’ve seen them all. This is a deeper dive on Tethys, the 3rd major (spherical) moon of Saturn, counting out from Saturn itself. (For laughs: Mimas, Enceladus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Titan, [Hyperion], Iapetus, [Phoebe] with the ones in brackets not actually being major moons but sizeable and of interest for other reasons, and all together comprising the “classical nine” moons of Saturn.) It is the 16th largest moon in the solar system, and has a couple of “Trojans” (no, Pat, not what you think), other smaller moons 60 degrees away from it in its orbit (I recall mentioning that because it’s unusual).
The name Tethys was also given to the gigantic “bay” that preceded today’s Indian Ocean.
As an additional aside, Saturn’s moon count is up to 274.
And,,,trigger warning, this is human evolution. (And for Wolf: trigger warning, goofy opening music.) Apparently the difference between our brains and those of our close relatives like neandertals, denisovans, erectus, etc…is ONE amino acid in ONE protein. Not only that but earlier Homo Sapiens are the same as the others, it’s only later that Homo Sapiens got this upgrade. This change in the protein helps in the development of the frontal lobe. (NB: this is two years old and may be outdated.)

Needless to say many have submitted such evidence but it is ignored. There are people planning to try to sue for that as well but I suspect such suits will get nowhere because this isn’t quite a contract (in some way I don’t understand very well). Flight is by Critical Think (who had the scale and weights in Antarctica) but was edited to put the insets into it by MC “Where are the GUNS, Nathan!?!” Toon.

Authors, especially of dailies, have always used a “Copy” button to duplicate (and then modify) posts (in WP-speak – meaning “articles” or “dailies” or “open threads” to the people here). Turns out that function was provided by JetPack, and went away when JetPack did. So I simply added a popular plugin that just does post-copying and page-copying (which I can use).
I accomplish that on my free site by writing my opens in Word. I write enough for a month, and i schedule them and save them. Any time I want to reuse a format or style I just copy it, edit and save as.

I can attest that one protein or its lack has devastating effects on human development and life.
Daughter Sally’s genetic neurological disease, Friedreich’s Ataxia, was caused by the lack of a protein – named Frataxin after the disease.

MY QUESTION RE: ‘EARLY MAN’ – Are there enough examples of early human brains and DNA to determine a whole race or era of development – or with only one or two examples, are they making grand theories and assumptions – kinda like the alphabet agendites and their touting of sexual orientations, identities and genders.
Good question!
Getting DNA from ancient human bones can’t be routine yet – but just the number of types they’ve sampled for comparison as mentioned here, exceeds one or two. AND the fact that this particular protein seems highly conserved (doesn’t change), except for ONE change going from older to modern, makes the sparse data easier to interpret, IMO.
And I would agree that deducing ancient brain architecture from skulls seems grandiose – except that (by now) millions of hours of work has gone into both understanding of the current human brain architecture, and how that is reflected in the skull, so much so that IMO that aspect of the conjecture is solid.
But the KEY is the new work that was done here – to test the two variations of the protein in mice, and actually see the brain difference that one amino acid makes, even though both variations actually “work” (unlike Sally’s case, which has devastating consequences).
This is certainly more solid stuff than “gay gene” conjectures, although it does point to a potential direction that research on a “gay gene” could take. If there is some protein variation in the human brain that correlates with gender, but can be cross-expressed in some minority of people, giving a more feminine brain to men and vice versa, then we might actually have an explanation for tendency of gay attractions and stereotypes (although I would suggest that it is still mostly choice plus sexual imprinting). The question would be why such a difference would persist – and that would be far more speculative.
In this particular case they likely tested every extant ape species they could get a sample from, and noted that we are the only one with the “new” variant. That’s a solid indication it happened in our ancestral line after the “split” between us and chimps/bonobos (the common ancestor may have been Sahelanthropus…though I think they’re still arguing over that and/or may have determined “no” and I just haven’t heard yet). So then it’s just a matter of analyzing tissue samples in those rare cases were such are found. (I wonder: Can they analyze proteins to determine which one? Or must they sequence DNA?)

Various aspects of genetics actually end up being very strong (much stronger than fossils) evidence for common descent. For instance retrovirus “droppings” in the genomes of all primates. These happen at random locations (when they happen) so when a bunch of species have the same retrovirus DNA in the same locations, it is ridiculously unlikely that that is by chance.

When I see a bald statement like that, I know they will just cram fingers into their ears and say nuh-uh.

I caught that too when reading & thought this might be a better way of saying it:

Either way they’re saying right up front they’ll reject any argument to the contrary.
They go on to try to claim that the “evolutionists” are engaging in circular reasoning. No, they are more like: Due to evidences A, B, and C, we think that this (points to diagram) is the correct primate “family tree”. When we look at the ERVs, what they show is is exactly what we’d expect if that family tree is true; it could have turned out a multitude of different ways, but it didn’t. They’re consistent with evolution having happened”
Science generally works by trying to find things to falsify a hypothesis. ERVs could easily have done so but didn’t.
As I read through this (I gave up halfway through) I realized there were all sorts of “background” statements trying to describe what “evolutionists” think, that just seemed subtly wrong, as well as logical inferences that seemed fallacious. I couldn’t put my finger on it not without poring over that entire article.
But that sentence highlighted the key problem with how they think. They walked into the room before learning anything and announced they had the answer, and no evidence to the contrary could be acceptable. Years later, they’re still talking like this.
Ask an “evolutionist” what evidence, were it to turn up, he would accept as proof that he’s wrong, and you will get a non empty answer?
These assholes? You can’t work for them without signing a statement of faith, i.e., professing willingness to do the nu-uh. It is not the purpose of science to uphold a dogma; it IS the purpose of AIG to do so.

I think you might be correct in this assumption
Not that scientists like climate weenies and the like can’t be dogmatic but it’s universally recognized amongst scientists that this is an error and they try to guard against it.
In the particular case of evolution, evidence in favor is overwhelming.
In the particular case of whether or not the Earth is young (which is a separate question though if the answer turns out to be “yes” then evolution is impossible) there is plenty of evidence that it is not–what’s called “preclusionary” evidence because it precludes the notion of a young earth possibly being true.
AIG (and other similar groups like CRI), however, is forced to spin some unbelievable rationales to “duck” this. When I get back to writing science I’ll eventually get there. OR I could scare up links but you’d have to be willing to watch or read them.
Wait on such links until you get back to it fitting in to what you are currently writing for a post, aka article. This is a strange time in my life & Summer is typically challenging with the extra travelling that I tend to do anyways so don’t make any extra effort on my account.

Australia just reminded the world what happens when government overreach becomes standard operating procedure. One violent incident — and now machetes are banned.
Colion Noir didn’t hold back.

Australia has decided to ban certain knives after a gang-related attack.
“A few days ago there was a machete attack at a shopping center in Australia… now machetes are banned,” Noir said in a recent video. “I wish I was making this up.”
After reports of a gang-related brawl in Melbourne’s Northland Shopping Center, Australian officials didn’t stop to examine the root cause. They didn’t ask how gangs got weapons, or why violence keeps erupting despite Australia’s sweeping gun bans. Instead, they did what governments do best: banned something else.
Knives longer than 20 centimeters — gone from shelves. Retailers had just 48 hours to comply.
“This is why every time someone says ‘Well can’t we just compromise a little?’ my answer is no,” Noir said. “Because this is what compromise looks like over time. Guns today. Machetes tomorrow. Toothpicks next Thursday.”
According to Noir, it’s never about the tool — it’s about control.
“If it were, we’d have banned fists and feet by now,” he said. “But fists don’t give the government more control. Guns do. Machetes do.”
He’s not wrong. Australian officials aren’t even banning all large knives. A 19cm carving knife is still perfectly legal. So what’s the logic?
“There is none,” Noir said. “It’s about appearance. It’s about control.”
Noir has spent two decades warning that compromise leads to slow-motion disarmament. And this, he says, is why Americans can’t afford to get comfortable.
“Some of y’all are breathing easy — ‘We’ve got the courts, we’ve got the House, we’re good.’ But presidents don’t last forever. Trump can’t run again,” he warned. “The moment the other side finds someone more likable than Kamala Harris — and that’s a low bar — they’re back in power. And the bans come back.”
He’s seen it happen before: the cycle of complacency followed by panic. The courts may be friendly today, but the anti-gun lobby never rests.
“Today it’s machetes in Australia. Tomorrow it’ll be assault cutlery. Then high-capacity shoelaces,” he joked. “Then maybe they’ll go after the real threat — those deadly plastic straws. Oh wait. They already did that.”
Noir’s point is deadly serious beneath the satire: this is what happens when a nation trades freedom for the illusion of safety.
“We don’t get to rest,” he said. “We stay vigilant. Because the moment we let our guard down, we’re right back where Australia is — trying to figure out whether your kitchen knife is now a criminal offense.”
And while the bans pile up, one question is never asked: How do we help people defend themselves?
“Empowering people means making the government less necessary,” Noir concluded. “And that’s the one thing they’ll never allow.”

I had planned to have signs that read “Christ is King,” but couldn’t find the lettering I needed in time, so I had a change of plan.
I drove up and down the street between the protesters (yes, they stayed ON THE SIDEWALKS; our sheriff would have a field day if they acted up), with all my windows down.
As I did, I laughed like a loon at them, especially the dumber signs (we have a Constitution, not a King; no shit Sherlock. Where’d you learn that? Kindergarten?). As I laughed, I yelled at the top of my (theater trained) voice “you’re in America, dummy! We have an elected President! There’s no kings here! You’re an AMERICAN!!!!”
Yeah, we don’t have any illegal immigrants, so they really were all from here. And almost all of them were OLD again. I was still laughing at how dumb it all was when I got home.

It’s the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the Army. The Revolutionary War was the reason. These people are protesting on the backs of many, many soldiers, who fought and bled and died so they could do it. And ignoring that anniversary while they do. If they were in Britain today, they’d most likely be in jail.

Where did they get the photos? Have they seen him since the shootings? The article says he has changed his clothing, whih means the photos are current, not ones they previously had of him. If they have reports of sightings of him, they should tell the public. And where did he get the clothing?

Boelter rented a room part-time at a Minneapolis home, and his roommates tell FOX 9 he texted them Saturday morning at 6 a.m. saying, I made some bad choices, I may be dead soon.
Police served a search warrant at the home in connection with the investigation, and used battering rams to get inside the home.
Boelter had vehicles at the home, and broke out one of the windows, but it’s not clear if he left the area in one of the vehicles. Authorities say the image of him wearing a cowboy hat is from surveillance cameras at the Minneapolis home.

Could it be that vote to repeal illegal immigrant health care, where these two Dems voted with the Republicans? Had there already BEEN death threats against them both?

The shootings are being set up to look like a right-wing attack. (Maybe it was, but I doubt it, and we need the truth before this gets out of hand.)
First, the fact that Boelert was appointed by Tim Walz is being downplayed as “bipartisan.”
Then the fact that Boelert was targeting abortion providers.
