The Sovereignty of God
‘I Will Accomplish All My Purpose’
In Isaiah 46:9, God says “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.” God is unique among all the beings of the universe. He is in a class by himself. No one is like him. When something is happening, or something is being said or thought, and God responds, “I am God!” , he is saying: You’re acting like you don’t know what it means for me to be God.
What It Means to Be God
So he tells them what it means to be the one and only God. He tells them what’s at the heart of his God-ness. Verse 10: What it means for me to be God is that “I declare the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done.” Two statements:
- I declare how things turn out long before they ever happen.
- I declare not just natural events but human events — doings, things that are not yet done.
Verse 10: “I declare from ancient times things not yet done.” I know what these doings will be long before they are done.
Now at this point you might say, “What we have here is God’s foreknowledge, not his sovereignty.” And that is right, so far. But in the next half of the verse, God tells us how he foreknows the end and how he foreknows the things not yet done. Verse 10b: “I declare the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’” When he “declares” ahead of time what will be, here’s how he “declares” it, or “says” it: “saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’”
In other words, the way he declares his foreknowledge is by declaring his fore-counsel and his fore-purposing. When God declares the end long before it happens, what he says is, “My counsel shall stand.” And when God declares things not yet done long before they are done, what he says is, “I will accomplish all my purpose.”
Which means that the reason God knows the future is because he plans the future and accomplishes it. The future is the counsel of God being established. The future is the purpose of God being accomplished by God. Then, the next verse, verse 11b, gives a clear confirmation that this is what he means: “I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed, and I will do it.” In other words, the reason my predictions come true is because they are my purposes, and because I myself perform them.
God Purposes All Things
God knows what’s coming because he plans what’s coming, and he performs what he plans. Verse 10b: ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’ He does not form purposes and wonder if someone else will take responsibility to make them happen. “I will accomplish all my purpose.”
So, based on this text: God has the rightful authority, the freedom, the wisdom, and the power to bring about everything that he intends to happen. And therefore, everything he intends to come about does come about. Which means, God plans and governs all things.
When he says, “I will accomplish all my purpose,” he means, “Nothing happens except what is my purpose.” What God means in Isaiah 46:10 is that nothing has ever happened, or will ever happen, that God did not purpose to happen. Or to put it positively: Everything that happened or will happen is purposed by God to happen.
Facing a Crucial Question
Will we turn from our objections and praise his power and grace, and bow with glad submission to the absolute sovereignty of God? Or, will we stiffen our neck and resist him? Will we see in the sovereignty of God our only hope for life in our deadness, our only hope for answers to our prayers, our only hope for success in our evangelism, our only hope for meaning in our suffering? Or, will we insist that there is a better hope, or no hope?
However, nothing contradicts the real moral responsibility that humans, and angels, and demons have to do what God commands. God has given us a will. How we use it makes our eternal difference.
God’s Sovereignty Over Nature
God is sovereign over what appears the most random acts in the world. Proverbs 16:33 says, “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.” There are no events so small that he does not rule for his purposes. “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?” Jesus said, “And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matthew 10:29–30).
From worms in the ground to stars in the galaxies, God governs the natural world. In the book of Jonah, God commands a fish to swallow (1:17), God commands a plant to grow (4:6), and commands a worm to kill it (4:7). And far above the life of worms, the stars take their place and hold their place at God’s command. Isaiah 40:26 says, “Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing.”
How much more, then, the natural events of this world — from weather, to disasters, to disease, to disability, to death.
Psalm 147:15–18 says, “He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. He gives snow like wool; he scatters hoarfrost like ashes. He hurls down his crystals of ice like crumbs; who can stand before his cold? He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow and the waters flow.” Job 37:11–13 says, “He loads the thick cloud with moisture; the clouds scatter his lightning. They turn around and around by his guidance, to accomplish all that he commands them on the face of the habitable world. Whether for correction or for his land or for love, he causes it to happen.”
God Could Have Stilled the Winds
So snow and rain, and cold, and heat, and wind are all the work of God. When Jesus finds himself in the middle of a raging storm, he merely speaks, “Peace! Be still!” And as the text says, “the wind ceased, and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:39). There is no wind, no storm, no hurricane, no cyclone, no typhoon, no monsoon, no tornado over which Jesus can say “Be still,” and it will not obey. Which means, that if it blows, he intends for it to blow. “Does disaster come to a city, unless the Lord has done it?” (Amos 3:6). All Jesus had to do with Hurricane Sandy was say, “Be still,” and there would have been no damage and no loss of life.
And what about the other sufferings of this life? “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord?’” (Exodus 4:11). And Peter said to the suffering saints in Asia Minor, “Let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good” (1 Peter 4:19). “It is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil” (1 Peter 3:17).
Whether we suffer from disability, or from the evil of others, God is the one who ultimately decides — and whether we live or die. Deuteronomy 32:39 says, “There is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.” Or consider James 4:13–15: “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit’ — yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.’” Or, as Job says, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21).
God’s Sovereignty in Human Actions
And when we turn from the natural world to the world of human actions and human choice, God’s sovereignty is just as extensive. “He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; . . . the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will” (Daniel 2:21; 4:17).
And whoever the president is, he is not sovereign. We should pray for him that he would know this: “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will” (Proverbs 21:1). And when he engages in foreign affairs he will not be decisive. God will. “The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations” (Psalm 33:10–11).
When nations came to do their absolute worst, namely the murder of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, they had not slipped out of God’s control, but were doing his sweetest bidding at their worst moment: “Truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place” (Acts 4:27–28). The worst sin that ever happened was in God’s plan, and by that sin, sin died.
Boasting Is Excluded
And so our salvation was secured on Calvary under the sovereign hand of God. And, if you are a believer in Jesus, if you love him, you are a walking miracle. God granted you repentance (2 Timothy 2:24–25). God drew you to Christ (John 6:44). God revealed himself to you (Matthew 11:27). God gave you the gift of faith. “By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9). The sovereignty of God in our salvation excludes boasting.
There may have been a hundred horrible things in your life. But if today you are moved to treasure Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can write over every one of those horrors the words of Genesis 50:20: Satan, “you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”
I conclude with the words of Paul in Ephesians 1:11, “God works all things according to the counsel of his will.” All things — from the roll of the dice, to the circuits of stars, to the rise of presidents, to the death of Jesus, to the gift of repentance and faith.
Why God’s Sovereignty Matters
What then does this mean for us? Why is this precious to us?
- Let us stand in awe of the sovereign authority and freedom and wisdom and power of God.
- Let us never trifle with life as though it were a small or light affair.
- Let us marvel at our own salvation — that God bought it, and wrought it, with sovereign power, and we are not our own.
- Let us groan over the God-belittling, man-centeredness of our culture and much of the church.
- Let us be bold at the throne of grace knowing that our prayers for the most difficult things can be answered. Nothing is too hard for God.
- Let us rejoice that our evangelism will not be in vain because there is no sinner so hard that the sovereign grace of God cannot break through.
- Let us be thrilled and calm in these days of great upheaval because victory belongs to God, and no purposes that he wills to accomplish can be stopped.

bakocarl I call it that God is molding and shaping us for His purpose. I found that in my life. God puts stepping stone our way when I look back I see them and all for good purpose.
I’m a little late to comment, but wanted to wait until I was ready to reflect and take in the wonderful thoughts and lessons presented today. It is particularly relevant in view of the corona virus event or “roadblock” that God will deal with to suit His plan.
God’s ways and purposes are sometimes truly beyond our ken. Sometimes not understanding the why did this happen? is not revealed until much later in life or sometimes not even in our lifetimes. Sometimes people need the salt to appreciate the joy of believing in Him and the salvation available through Jesus Christ. Sometimes the testimony of people that have been under extreme duress from whatever, be it political, accidental, or other, can be very powerful indeed. And at the time of their struggles, there would be others, and sometimes the people themselves, wondering why?
We sometimes forget that we are a minute part of His grand plan, even those who may play a significant part in our lifetimes. His Plan is magnificent, enormous and all encompassing, with little tweaks along the way. Evil tries to throw roadblocks in the way, but the Lord moves them aside as needed, and sometimes in a way that helps bring more people into the light, sometimes in a subtle manner that is apparent to only a few, again to His ultimate purpose. So we help in the ways He has prepared us, be it prayer or actively participating in the roles He has laid out for us. God IS Great! and Amen to your above post, BakoCarl!

Attempted to take a look at the National Catholic Reporter after staying away for a while. The first two headlines I see are: 1. Blaming the US for the “migrants” being stopped from crashing the southern Mexican border. 2. Praising the House Managers and trashing Trump’s defense team on the impeachment. I am a CATHBAT (Catholic Hanging By A Thread).
You know that that publication was ordered by their bishop to remove “Catholic” from the title, and they ignored him.
If it wasn’t for the alternative Catholic media, and the push toward traditionalism I’m seeing in my archdiocese, it would be harder. But we have it. There’s a war on inside the Church and the warnings from Fatima seem to be playing out. At least one mystic’s predictions are too.
Don’t lose hope. Jesus said the gates of hell will not prevail.
Is the Catholic Register still pretty conservative?
I believe that one is, yes. The most dependable of the mainstream publications, though, is Catholic World Report.
I had not heard of ‘The Catholic World Report’ so I just read three featured articles, ‘Making sense of Pope Francis on faith, evangelization, and proselytizing’, ‘A Lesson in Realism for Iran’ and ‘Hybrid academy provides “a Benedict-like option” faithful to Church teachings”.
In my opinion, all three articles were very well written and made their points clearly, yet respectfully . . . the article about Pope Francis, particularly so and in depth. The article on the Regina Caeli Academy stood out as a very encouraging development.
I’ve read CWR for years.
The biggest problem we have is all the surface lookers. You have to go deep when it comes to the Church and Faith. That’s what so many don’t get.

Crisis Magazine continues to allow comments, and there are staunch and knowlegeable lay Catholics who comment on Crisis Magazine, and are balm to my spirit…
The following is my personal response as a Catholic to a Catholic hanging by a Tread. [In other words, not up for debate or discussion by others].
It is true that we are in crisis within the Catholic Church..but not only did Our Lord assure us that the gates of Hell would not prevail, He is continually with us in the Blessed Sacrament. Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. As such,please God, I could never leave Our Lord, present in the Eucharist- and thus the Catholic Church.
In fact, it is during my time in Adoration, that I grieve over the persecution -from within- that Our Holy Mother Church is experiencing. But just as true Patriots are fighting for the USA, so too, we must continue to stand with Holy Mother Church, even though those at the highest levels of the hierarchy are persecuting her.
Here for your edification, is a good young priest, in his video “Tough Times ahead(He is a charismatic, which is not my cup of tea, but according to people I know in His parish, that he is slowly leading his flock back to Tradition…)

It was also balm to my spirit…as we in Canada are going through a very tough time, where the government recently conducted a two week biased consultation on expanding euthanasia…to people who want to die…even though they are in good health…we know how that will end. The UPDATE at the end, says the following: “UPDATE: As expected, the Senate voted against calling witnesses, 51-49. Legislation has been introduced in Utah to permit recall of a sitting senator.” … Question: who is the sitting senator for UTAH? Mitt Romney?
Yes. It’s Mittens. And it would be a special sauce for the goose if that was successfully carried out!
It should be noted that SCOTUS has already opined on whether a state can recall Federal congressmen — whether House or Senate — and the answer is currently “no”.
To me, that begs for a state to pass a law that says, “voters in this state may, by majority vote, decide that a Federal congressman is unworthy to represent this state in Congress and recall them from that office. In the event that Federal Courts determine they may not be so recalled, said congressman shall be declared “outlaw” and all state penalties for shooting said congressman shall be excused — and a $1 million bounty placed.”
For a bit of background on this, almost all crimes are criminal via state law. AFAIK, there is no Federal law against murder. (There is also no Federal law against rape, burglary, or robbery.) Mind you, if a Utah congressman were shot and killed in Kansas, Kansas law would apply and the shooter would be guilty of murder.
The SCOTUS decision essentially said, “once this individual is Federal, the state may not intrude in Federal law.” I see no justification for SCOTUS to interfere in a state law declaring someone outlaw and putting a bounty on their head.
Of course, if the congressman who was “recalled” stepped down instead of litigating the issue, this would never come up.

I know what a palindrome is.
I have no idea what a symmetrical palindrome is, other than (possibly) a redundancy because any palindrome is symmetric.
With that in mind, why don’t 20011002 (October 2, 2001) and 20111102 (November 2, 2011) qualify? For that matter, 20211202 could do it too–unless I don’t understand what a symmetric palindrome is in particular.
This reminds me of the time I read (several days after the fact) something titled “today is an odd day,” about 19991119, which was pointing out that 19 November 1999 was that last date with all odd digits that would be seen until 3111. (They were fairly common before then). Of course, today is an even day, by that reasoning (considering 0 even). And incidentally, 19991119 has its own symmetry; it’s a palindrome only after you change the last half’s ones to nines and nines to ones–or to put it another way, change all digits to their nine’s-complement.

In that case, the date and month must be the same as each other. Which leaves only twelve possible palindromes! 10100101, 20200202, 30300303, etc. up to 11111111, and 21211212. So in manyu cases it’s the only such palindrome for the entire millennium, and only in 10100101 and 20200202 could one look forward to one the next century.
Of course in 10100101 and 11111111, “Arabic” numbers hadn’t made it to any part of the world that uses either the Gregorian or Julian calendar, so I guess two of these are moot; this is the first time in history anyone has ever noticed this.

It is very important however to get a real understanding of what kind of wordplay is at work when you see the postmodernist use the term “hospitality”.
This is part of the ongoing positive promotion of social justice, NeoMarxism, and critical theory by Dr. Rosaria Butterfield, Desiring God, The Gospel Coalition, and The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. These are all folks that accept as legitimate the critical theory construct of “Christian privilege”, and use that to justify positions where Christians are considered the oppressor over and against other categories they wish to privilege – immigrants, blacks, LGBT, women, etc etc etc.

In her article for Christianity Today titled My Train Wreck Conversion, Dr. Rosaria Butterfield reflects on her past as “a professor of English and women’s studies, on the track to becoming a tenured radical.”1 She describes herself as one who “cared about morality, justice, and compassion,”2 and being “fervent for the worldviews of Freud, Hegel, Marx, and Darwin…strove to stand with the disempowered.”3 This description of herself is important because it portrays her as an opponent of the postmodernism and feminism from which she was converted.4 However, a critical analysis of Butterfield’s latest book The Gospel Comes With a House Key: Practicing Radically Ordinary Hospitality in Our Post-Christian World reveals that this is not the case.
Because the book is a series of non-academic reflective essays, it is easy to miss Butterfield’s dependence on and employment of postmodern and feminist concepts, a reality which has seemingly left many readers with the impression that her understanding of hospitality is derived from Scripture. Therefore, it is the aim of this essay to bring Butterfield’s philosophical roots and fruit into full view, revealing how they inform her doctrine of hospitality, how they subtly subvert Christian orthodoxy, and why Christians should steer clear of her writings.5
This will be accomplished by first briefly reviewing Jacques Derrida’s concept of true hospitality/pure hospitality, and demonstrating how it stands in contradiction to the Christian concept of hospitality. From this initial step, we will move on to compare Butterfield’s concept of hospitality to that of Derrida, and highlight some ways in which Butterfield’s doctrine deviates from the Christian doctrine of hospitality. Following this, we will draw attention to four postmodern concepts which are embedded in The Gospel Comes With a House Key’s essays. These concepts are –
Labeling/Categorizing as “Violence” Against the Other
The Other/Stranger as Absolute Other/God
Fluid Subjectivities
The Feminist-Theological Ethic of Hospitality
We will conclude by giving a brief summary of the postmodern philosophical roots of Butterfield’s doctrine of hospitality, recapitulating how those roots subvert Christian orthodoxy, and admonishing Christians to steer clear of her writings.
BTW, if it wasn’t obvious, postmodernism was never the language of Christ or the Apostles… where these people get off I don’t know. But it would be dangerous to say they are just ignorant or foolish. It would be dangerous to not consider that their outcomes were in fact intentional.

Postmodernism is intentional nonsensical, the author explains why. Only in academia could their crap be taken seriously. But it is anti-rational, anti-reason, and that is why it is so dangerous to the West. Would be dangerous to assume otherwise.

I should note that I lost the ability to see tweets (when directly referenced) about two weeks ago. It was fine for years, until it wasn’t. I made no major configuration changes.
A couple of months ago, Fox News became unstable — if I left the page open in a tab or tried an ordinary refresh, it’d come back with some weird network error message. I can read it if I do a CTL-F5.
I think the Lords of Narrative are trying to shut us down. Thing is — if EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET became inaccessible to me tomorrow, I would not trust them more. Their cover is blown. I might construct something to read past the b******t, but it wouldn’t alter my perception that every word is a lie.
CT, the tweet issue may have something to do with Duck, Duck, Go. It happened to several of us awhile back. If you use DDG, look for your Duck, Duck, Go – Privacy Essentials. Mine is located top and to the right of the URL line. Click on that. There’s a Manage White List, click on that and add twitter to it. Or something like that. It tells you what to do. There had been an upgrade and twitter essentially had to be “allowed” back in to view tweets.
Maybe that will help. Worked for several of us who developed the problem in the past few months.

I use DDG as my default search engine, but I suspect the Twitter thing is deeper — I think they’re saying “access us, and get a boatload of dynamically assigned content, and if you insist on knowing what you’re getting before we push it we’ll fail.” Which is what I think Fox is doing as well. I have the ability to create a virtual machine to read this and share screen contents to my usual machine…..but I haven’t gotten around to it.
Twitter tries that, but I also have Ad blocker, so it stopped being a problem. I have to ignore the “new” twitter propaganda – pushing tweets of people I don’t follow, etc. but for now, as long as POTUS is on twitter, I’ll deal with it.
As our computers age, their operating systems cease to be updatable and as websites change/update their systems, our older computers won’t open them fully.
This has happened with my Mac OS 10.9 system. I’ve never put in a newer OS – so CBS won’t play Bluebloods any more on that computer. I can’t open Best Buy or Lowes’ websites and lots of other websites won’t open properly.
My newer 2011 Mac with a newer, not the newest OS, will open most websites except one of those Wolfie posted on his Drudge substitute thread (NOQ).
Your choice may be to buy a newer computer or update yours.
My phone runs Android, and I refuse to load apps or leave data on the device. Everything else runs Linux. If something is not loading, it’s likely because it ran afoul of MY rules and I’m blocking it. Furthermore, it is likely hitting MY rules because it’s trying to screw me (pardon my French). Using Linux, I can mimic being screwed for all sorts of behavior while allowing me to see real information, but it takes time to arrange this. At the moment, I’m merely annoyed and busy with other things.
Can this system run Linux? It might be time to convert it.
Twitter plugin (open source) has to run on WordPress pages to see the Tweets as embeds and not URLs. This requires that privacy software OK anything from Twitter on the page.

I do a lot of stir frys since they are quick and easy.
Appetizer…fresh papaya bites wrapped in prosciutto.
Dinner…take out ribs from Shane’s Rib Shack,,.meaty and delicious…couldn’t make them any better. Comes with 2 sides such as coleslaw, baked beans,etc. that I always “enhance”. (my night off from kitchen.). And, resident fox loves the bones!
Still able to buy outstanding fresh white corn on cob, cooked 3 minutes in pressure cooker.
I’m officially ending the 30 day elimination diet tonight!

I still remember, after I was banned on the Eeyore tree, watching two people get into an argument; one maintained that at the time gas prices were cheaper than they had been in ten years, the other assured him he was wrong (and he was). This was in 2017.
The first guy then pulled up the price records from precisely ten years ago (2007) to “prove” his point, but of course that doesn’t prove a damn thing, because indeed gas had been cheaper in 2009, during the great recession, and that was within the prior ten years.
We had gas here as low as $1.65 in 2009–and that was midgrade. I haven’t seen it drop below two dollars since 2009 and it’s about $2.50 now (my car back then required midgrade, and my current car also requires midgrade so I pay little attention to the regular price).

Yes. The Peabody Hotel in Memphis is home to mallards that are rotated out on a regular basis. They are a tradition started with a practical joke back in the 20’s or 30’s when some hunters put their live decoys in the fountain in the lobby. Ever since, they’ve had resident ducks and at 11 am, they are marched from the pen rooftop into a red carpet elevator, and the go into the fountain. The Duck Master does a whole show around it.

Today I just have to share my good news, my grand daughter almost 17 wants to spend her spring break with her Oma and Opa 🙂
She has come every spring since she was 1 year old. Her mother would bring her from CT and I would fly her back with her.
When she was six she would come on her own and I fly her back with her. When she was 14 she flew back on her own.
I am so excited that she still wants to visit us even though she is grown and could spend her time with other people other places.
She told her mom , my daughter, that Oma’s house is a good place to relax and it is so peaceful . True everyone says it when they visit 🙂

I’ve thought about your post off and on all day. in some ways it reminds me of visiting my paternal grandparents when I was a teen. My mother and I clashed, so they worked it so that I would go visit in the summer. It was peaceful there, and they like you, just let me “be”. I learned a lot of life lessons from them, just being around them.
I too spend time with my grandmothers and learned much. I feel sorry for children who cannot spend time with grandparents.
Yes I let Sabina do what she wants and she can tell me anything and I listen and not tell. Teen years are hard with friends and what goes along. We have no TV and she does not care. She sleeps with the cats and walks the dogs and teaches them new tricks. We do some cooking together things she likes. Maybe make bread and apple fritters. I am glad you too had good experiences with your grandparents 🙂
My grandmother did not drive, and when I was able, she had me take her grocery shopping and once in a while to friends that lived in the country. One time she wanted to go visit some friends that had hogs. She needed a “hog fix” as we say nowadays!

After I married, I lived across the US from my parents’ home where I was raised. Until their deaths, I always spent a couple of weeks in summer with them, alone, with undivided attention. Because I had a very busy life, I often had to work hard to prepared for my absence and often arrived at my parents’ a little tired and stressed.
For the first couple of days, it seems as though all I wanted to do is nap. One time I apologized to my mom and she gave me the sweetest reply I’ve never forgotten. She said, oh I don’t mind at all because it tells me you feel comfortable, relaxed and safe …as though you are “home” again.
No matter how “important and necessary” I was in my life across the country, when I went home I was my parents’ little girl again. It was a nice feeling!

My greats were farmers, but it’s funny. I had one grandparent on each side that brought some of that farming into their city lives. One grandfather kept his yard like a park, and had tomatoes tucked away in a back corner, and one grandmother who had a pretty large garden when I was younger, and as I got older still had a small garden and a few fruit trees. She had a green thumb.

Let me just say that there is nothing we could do that would beat God’s judgment and punishment.

However, the Lord has given us the laws and the responsibility to carry out justice. Still, I take no pleasure in the fact we have to do it. Nonetheless, it is a solumn responsibility, and a solumn charge.
While that is true, temporal punishments are nothing compared to eternity. God will take care of it.
That is very true, but what happens in the next life does not negate the need for temporal punishment in this life, which I do not think you are suggesting. We cannot know what the Lord will do. I often hear people say when a person who has done great evil dies, “He’s going to hell.” The fact is, that person could have repented and given his life to the Lord before he died. Whether he did so or not, he still must face justice in this life. If his life is changed and he becomes a child of God before he dies, that is a saved soul, and that is a wonderful thing. We may be surprised when we get to heaven who the Lord has saved, and it will all be according to His sovereign will.
If someone repents before the body dies, yes, eternal life will be more pleasant we can assume.
I’m trusting God, though. Pursuing justice is a good thing, but it should be thorough and correct. If someone in this life is missed, then they are, and God will take care of it.
Well, I also believe that those who fail in their responsibility to mete out justice in this life will have to answer in the next. Some may be saved but lose rewards, perhaps.

FWIW, the largest Chinese/Asian shopping center in the western United States is in Milpitas, CA, just a few miles north of San Jose (in Santa Clara county). On the night before the Senate impeachment trial began, someone broke into veteran Washington investigative journalist John Solomon’s car parked near the White House and stole his laptop, according to a D.C. Metropolitan Police Department report obtained by RealClearInvestigations.
The computer contained notes on Ukraine and former Vice President Joe Biden and other sensitive information, Solomon, 52, said in an interview. He said he was preparing to launch a new podcast and news site at the time.
Though the laptop has since been recovered, the investigation is still open. “The case has been assigned a detective and is under investigation,” MPD spokesman Sean Hickman told RCI.
