Unity in Christ
Unity is a state of oneness and harmony. All believers in Christ are united in Christ. We are in a relationship that unites us with Him and with every other believer.
Jesus prayed for His disciples—all who would believe in Him for all the ages—“that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you” (John 17:21). Some look at the great divisions among Christian denominations and refer to this as Christ’s great “unanswered prayer.” However, Scripture is clear that all believers are united with Christ because of our relationship with Him and with all other believers. We are all in the same family, even it at times we do not act like it. Therefore, unity in Christ has two aspects—one is objective fact, and one is subjective experience.
Objective and subjective unity can be true for any number of groups, teams, or even families. All the members of a football team are unified by their membership in the group. They do not win or lose games individually. The individuals contribute to the group, but it is the group that wins or loses—that is the objective fact. However, there may be times that the team does not act in a unified way. Selfishness and rivalry may creep up, and, when it does, it is impossible for the team to act as a unit—this is the subjective aspect. The behavior of individuals on the team is not matching the fact of their unity with every other member of the team.
All who believe in Christ are part of His body, the church. The New Testament is clear on this. Ephesians 5:30 says it plainly: “For we are members of his body.” Whether a Christian feels like it or not, he or she is part of Christ’s body and therefore unified with every other believer. Paul uses the analogy of the body in 1 Corinthians 12:12–21:
“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
“Now if the foot should say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,’ it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

The human body is a unified whole. If one part does not work right, the whole body suffers. If a person smashes his thumb with a hammer, it is not just the thumb in isolation that hurts. Other parts of the body may hurt, too, and the functioning of the whole body is impaired. This is true even when a person does not know about the malfunctioning part. If an internal organ is not functioning properly, damage may be done to the body before any pain or obvious illness is present.
In the same way, the church has unity in Christ. As part of His body, each member has a particular job to do and a place to belong. When any individual member is not fulfilling his or her purpose in the body, the whole body suffers. All the members are united, and because of that unity, when one acts in an individualistic or selfish manner (i.e., acts as if he is not part of the body), the whole body suffers because, regardless of his actions, the individual member is still in unity with all the others in the body.
Many of the commands in the New Testament direct Christians to live up to their position and demonstrate their unity in Christ. Christians are not commanded to become one in Christ—that is already an objective reality. Christians are told to make their subjective experience match the objective fact. Paul pleads with the Philippians for this kind of unity: “Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others” (Philippians 2:1–4). If Christians, who are members of the same team, see themselves in competition with each other, then they are not playing as teammates. They are not living in light of the unity that exists.
Unity in Christ means that all believers are in a relationship with Christ and, by extension, to every other believer. All believers are united with each other whether they know it or not, like it or not, or feel like it or not. The challenge of Christian unity is to live up to the truth of that reality. Since we are all members of one body, we need to live like it. This means subordinating our individual needs to the needs of the body at large and using our individual gifts for the good of the whole body.
Unity in Christ does not mean that all differences between churches or denominations need to be abolished. Individual churches and denominations can keep their individual distinctives and emphases while still working together in areas where they agree. For instance, an evangelical Baptist church and an evangelical Presbyterian church will be in agreement on the gospel and the essentials of the faith, but because of different beliefs about baptism, it would be impossible for these two churches to simply unite as one church. It might be possible for a church to take a neutral position on infant baptism; however, it is hard to see how a church could teach that parents should baptize their babies (as do Presbyterian churches) and simultaneously teach that parents should not baptize their babies (as in Baptist churches). While these two groups could never unite as a single local church or denomination, they can still cooperate in other ministry endeavors, and individuals within each local body can fellowship with and love each other.

If anyone else was drawing attention to Epstein, repeatedly, and then not delivering as promised, repeatedly — besides Bondi — who was it?
What nefarious Deep State psy-op operative was responsible for all of this, besides Pam Bondi herself?
The only communication from the administration we can’t pin on Bondi is the anonymous ‘memo’ released to Axios, of all places.
Because it was signed by no one. Nobody wanted to be associated with that piece of garbage, but no one has disavowed it either.
But even if the ‘memo’ and the videotape hadn’t been released, the build up to that moment was Bondi repeatedly making promises she could never deliver.
Nobody had a gun to her head, at least not in any of the multiple videos I’ve seen.
Kash and Dan seemed to be doing damage control, saying the opposite of Bondi, or trying to lower expectations.
So if it was a psy-op, how could it happen, and who was responsible, if the only three people in the administration saying anything about Epstein, were Pam, Kash and Dan?

Unless we allow for the possibility that the central figures were possessed, it is reasonable to accept that the people involved in creating any ‘psy-op’ must be among the central figures.

I hoped to find a list of all of Bondi’s public statements on Epstein, to create a time line, but so far I have not found that information collected together in one place.

I started to skim through it, and then started transcribing it for a few minutes, then just noted various speakers, then started to transcribe again, but I only made it about 7-1/2 minutes before my PC decided to spontaneously reboot.

Again, that’s only less than 7 minutes into a nearly two hour video montage.
It’s the same people, over and over and over again.
DJT, Pam, Kash and Dan. Mostly just Pam, Kash and Dan.
These aren’t just the main characters, they’re practically the only people in the administration who have consistently, even persistently, fanned the flames before joining the administration, or tried to put the fire out after joining the administration (Kash and Dan, then DJT), or fanned the flames after joining the administration (Pam).
If the theoretical psy-op was a whodunnit, these are the prime (and practically only) suspects.
Either it was one of them, or it was more than one of them in collusion, or it was all of them, or it was none of them.
If it was none of them, then someone must be in a position of power and authority to have manipulated all of them.
So if it was none of them, then who else is there, who could even hypothetically cause DJT, Pam, Kash and Dan to create this perfect storm, in a way that none of them would recognize what was happening, and cause them to play their roles perfectly?
Is there a mole, a saboteur among these four people, and if so, who?
If there is not, then who could possibly have caused these four to create this fiasco?
Who could have made Pam go on Fox News multiple times, to tease the release of Epstein info?
Did Pam know she was being secretly recorded by the supposed ‘nanny’ in the video obtained or created by James O’Keefe, and she was just staying in character?
What I’m trying to get at is this. If the Epstein fiasco is the result of a psy-op, where is the evidence of anyone else doing anything, besides the four main characters in this farce?
In all the other psy-ops we know about, e.g. Russia Gate, there are obvious bad actors, and everyone knows about them, and the reason the psy-op works on the public is because the MSM either covers for the bad actors, or ignores their role.
But here, in the Epstein fiasco, who are the bad actors?
Who else is even involved to any significant extent, besides the four main characters?
Which brings us back to the central question.
Is the Epstein fiasco a psy-op?
If it is, are any (or all) of the four main characters in on the psy-op?

Definitely, but it’s a balancing act. There are vent holes in the top of the metal heat-sink case, so I don’t want to cover those, as much as I can avoid it.
So that means as small of a pan as possible, that will still allow a freezer pack to lay flat inside, for maximum heat transfer.
When I worked out the best pan I had for the job (trial and error), I measured the inner diameter, and then went in search of freezer packs that would fit. The pan hangs halfway off the top of the PC case, to keep from completely covering the vent slots / holes.
The pan would fall off if the handle was facing the wrong direction, but I have it turned so that the pan handle is facing across the top of the PC case, to counterbalance the stainless steel pan.
It’s a thing of beauty, just like the PC manufacturer intended for it all to work 😂
The freezer packs I bought just barely fit inside the pan. For the first week or so, whatever is in the freezer pack was filling out the corners, but after repeatedly breaking off whatever is frozen inside, by forcing each pack into the pan, to make them fit in the pan, they all fit nicely now 😁
I bought a six pack of the freezer packs, so I can constantly rotate them and always have one ready that is completely frozen… I’m sure my freezer is loving this 👍

I will just add this. It is very important that – while we are being patient and logical – we never accept evil by calling it “good”.
There are things about Epstein and his world that can be told to the public with complete anonymity, that will shock and CONFIRM THE REALITY of the evil. This can be new stuff by honest post-Wray agents, very anonymous about who’s in what, like basic descriptions of categories of videos and numbers therein. A few anonymous descriptions of videos might help, too.
Frankly, this is the stuff that people expected in the original “binders for women”, as one might call those swag bags for influencers.
This has a purpose – to deflate some of this susceptibility of Trump’s base to psychological manipulation by the other side, over Epstein.
This can be delayed a bit, so that it doesn’t seem like a direct response which would be rewarding irrational behavior.
I think the initial idea of releasing to influencers and not the fake news was correct, but it backfired because it was not good new information. It insulted the intelligence of Trump’s base.
Importantly, this work can be done by a small group of trusted agents who aren’t going to go leaking selectively and with optimal bad timing to Axios.
TL;DR – letting people know they’re not crazy helps them not be crazy.

Most Americans do not realize our IC does some nasty, terrible things around the world that are in the name of security, peace, and protecting “American interests” as determined by the people in power at the time. Trying to claw back on what has been done in the past is hard and many cases a complete waste of time and resources. You first have to get past the politics and gatekeepers. You have to prove that what was done was in violation of laws at the time of the acts. You have to get past position immunity from prosecution and the confirmed right to lie and deceive as part of the job.
The better route is to include the activities that may have violated the law into a larger RICO or larger action type criminal probe. That is what I believe is going on.

For those who have been asking about escaping the upcoming Windows 10 crunch, I just laid hands on the current (and final) issue of Linux Format, one of the two big Linux magazines remaining (used to be four — Linux Voice and Linux User & Developer are long gone). It has a big “25 YEARS OF OPEN SOURCE” and Tux, the Linux mascot penguin, on the front. It’s supposed to be on display until July 27, but it just showed up within the last three days at my local Barnes & Nobel. Note that this magazine is the one without the disc on the front.
In this issue, there is an evaluation of Linux distros for Windows refugees, which includes Mint, Elementary, Ubuntu, Pop!_OS, Zorin, Deepin, MXLinux, and Lubuntu [Note that all except Deepin and MXLinux are based on Ubuntu.]
There is also a series of articles on installing Mint. I should note that I use Mint, Ubuntu MATE, and Ubuntu for most of my internal computers — that way, system administration tasks generally work the same.

If you get a new computer with Ubuntu already loaded on it, you can continue to use the old computer as your daily workhorse while you get the new one configured. As Wolf suggested, Ubuntu (OS) with Gnome (graphical user interface) will likely serve you best over time.

The key point for you is probably going to be Quicken. How badly do yo need it? Are you okay with learning a new tool? Or, (not advisable) are you okay with using Quicken tools online?
It’s a small thing, which I’ll figure a work around. Yea, doing it online, won’t work for me.
Hell I can build a simple Excel spread sheet. I quit all investments ~ten years ago. Spreadsheet, ledger, is all I really need.
Maintaining Quicken was really the lazy way. Have used Quicken since ~92. Excel or another ledger of sorts will work fine.

I use LibreOffice “Calc” as my spreadsheet tool. It works pretty similar to excel.
I use basic cell referencing for a Federal Tax calculations template I created some years ago. Everything works as expected.
You can run Windows applications in Linux using WINE. OTOH, it is a pain to get running. I keep a legacy computer around for Turbotax / H&R Block because the effort to get it running under Linux is a pain when the program will only get used for a couple of weeks.
We have one MacOS system in our home and that’s where H&R Block runs. This year there was a glitch with getting the correct version to install. Had to search comments on forums to find the secret password to get H&R tech support to cough up a link for the right version.
IMO the simplest and easiest for senior citizens is Ubuntu. The others are the temptations that end up turning people away from Linux.
All I know about temptations is their source.

I tend to agree with Wolf. I’ve tried other versions of Linux and I usually run into something that just doesn’t work the way I expect. The beauty for Ubuntu for me is that so many people use it that the questions/answers/solutions are usually already there by the time I get to them.
As previously noted, I am a fan of Ubuntu and its close derivatives, including “flavors” that are officially supported by Ubuntu.
Deepin and MXLinux are based on Debian, BTW. I have a couple of systems running Debian, and Raspberry Pi’s in-house version of Linux (the one best suited for Raspberry Pi quirks) is based on Debian.
If I were to implement a birdbath cam using a Pi, I might use Pi’s Linux to run it, then record data from it over a wireless link onto an Ubuntu MATE system. Later, I could use a Mint system to read data from the Ubuntu MATE system over a wired link. Because I’m staying within a Debian/Ubuntu set of computers, they can all use the same backup system, all use the same SMART monitoring of disks, all use the same networking layout to set up links, and all use the same “sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade” to stay up-to-date.
If I had a Fedora or Arch system in there, one end of a connection might have the network key in a different place than the other end of the connection. They’d both still use the gnupg encryption engine, but there would be that much more uncertainty when trying to put it together.
I note someone above having problems with Devuan. This is not really based on current Debian; it is based on historical Debian. I would not recommend it.

SD: “President Trump announced on Truth Social a baseline tariff rate of 30% for both the European Union and Mexico. Other sector specific tariffs still apply.
The EU rate is interesting in that the 30% rate is lower than the Canadian rate of 35%, yet the EU rate exceeds the current ‘chicken tax’ rate historically applied to imported SUVs and Trucks. Strategically, the 30% tariff rate on Europe is a major incentive for various EU sectors to shift manufacturing into the USA.
Without a formal declaration of the end of the Marshall Plan, the reciprocity rate of 30% for all EU imports also equalizes the transatlantic trade benefit. It will be interesting to see how the EU responds, given any retaliation could be added to the existing baseline.
Canada is currently trying to organize a trade agreement with the EU, in the hopes of positioning themselves toward the transatlantic group as they were toward the transpacific group (vis-a-vis China).
The Canadian economic model, to position themselves as a gateway into the USA for Chinese component goods, previously served them well as they exploited a NAFTA loophole. However, the new 35% rate impedes their ability to remain an assembly driven manufacturing model. Similarly, the 30% USA rate toward the EU impedes the Canadian transatlantic approach.
The USA Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is currently 26 to 28 percent of the entire world’s GDP. The USA is by far the most dominant consumer market in the world. President Trump is leveraging access to the U.S. market within the global trade imbalance reset.
Additionally, Mexico also receives the 30% tariff rate applied. Again, interestingly the Mexico rate is lower than the Canadian rate and reflects two distinctly different levels of economic importance. Almost all of Mexico’s manufacturing base exists exclusively due to access to the USA market.
Hundreds of billions worth of investment dollars from both the EU and China have poured into Mexico for the single purpose of generating tariff-free goods for sale into the USA.
Neither Mexico nor Canada can respond to the tariffs as applied against the backdrop of their dependency on the USA market. Both can try to sell their goods and resources to alternate nations, but the costs associated with the transfer of those goods to alternate countries negates the profit incentive to just streamline the internal process and offset the tariffs.
The big question for the EU and Mexico is one we see playing out in Japan, downward wage pressure.
The more a nation tries to offset the tariffs in order to maintain the industry, the less profit margin they have within their operation for wage rates to increase. This is what the USA went through for four decades as the rustbelt took shape and all the manufacturing jobs were offshored.
The Japanese auto sector is now worried about declining wages, the same basic thing will roll forward into China, Mexico the EU, and to a lesser extent Canada. Eventually tariff subsidies run into the natural bottom line of the production sector.
The EU is in the worst possible shape to deal with this wage and labor pressure. Their collective demand toward green energy is extremely expensive and their manufacturing sectors are now facing serious increases in production cost due to the high cost of energy.
The scale of that EU energy problem when combined with the generous worker benefits within the EU creates a reality where they simply cannot take any more upward pressure on production costs, without opening themselves up to cheap Chinese goods.
The EU has massive self-imposed inflation as a result of energy policy. As China maintains state subsidized production, those Chinese goods eventually get dumped into markets like the EU where the domestic suppliers simply cannot compete on price. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been very vocal about this problem for almost a year.
President Trump is leveraging all of these global dynamics in our favor. Cheap U.S. energy, cheap and abundant U.S. raw materials, reasonable open-market labor rates (deportation process assisting), in combination with the world’s #1 consumer base, makes the best bet for manufacturing to come to the USA.
All of that domestic USA economic activity drives expansion of the GDP, which pushes more money into the federal budget and offsets the cost of govt spending. Add to that GDP growth the income from tariffs, and suddenly we start running a surplus to drive down debt and deficits.
Despite all the seemingly noisy distractions on other matters, on the economic front President Trump’s entire MAGAnomic policy agenda is exceptionally well structured and delivering great results.”

Update on Air India crash.
Apparently the First Officer was flying during take off, which means the Captain must have taken over and diverted the plane into a less densely populated area to crash land.
When the fuel cut-off switches were activated, one of them asked Why did you cut-off?, and the other replied that he didn’t.
Today it was revealed that all the way back in 2018 there was an FAA warning published, without requiring mandatory repair, about a problem with the FUEL CUT-OFF SWITCHES.
It was happening with other planes that use the same switches as the Boeing 787, and the Boeing 787 is listed as one of the affected planes in the FAA warning.
Apparently the switches, which are designed to be impossible to accidently switch due to a ‘gate’ or other internal obstacle, was FAILING. Doesn’t specify whether the switches were cutting off by themselves, or whether they could be cut off by bumping them, without having to pull them up, move them over a detent, and lowering them.
It is now speculated that the arm of the First Officer, as he applied full thrust, may have bumped the Fuel Cut-Off switches, and if the internal safety devices had FAILED as reported in the FAA warning letter, both switches could have been shut off at the same time, by accident.
Alternately, if I understood correctly, sometimes both pilots work together on take-off, with one applying the thrust, while the other guards the switches (that part didn’t really make sense to me the first time through).
So it is possible that the safety mechanism failed, allowing the fuel cut-off switches to be switched to OFF during take off, accidentally.
Which would explain why one asked ‘why did you cut off?‘ and the other could have honestly answered ‘I didn’t.’
There was not enough time to restart the engines, though they did reset the fuel cut-off switches back to ON within 10 seconds, as I remember from another recent video.
No explanation for the 10 second delay so far. Also waiting for the specific amount of time between when each cut-off switch was set to the OFF position. If it happened simultaneously, that might indicate both switches were somehow hit as the thrust lever was pushed forward.
The timing, to a fraction of a second, should be revealed in the full report, when it comes out.

As was reported in another article, the re-start would have worked if they had been at a high enough altitude. Sadly, the rate of ‘fall’ exceeded the availability of altitude.
I seem to remember from that article that one hypothesis was that the fuel cut off was not accidental; rather it was part of some sort of ‘repair protocol’ that was triggered. I can’t remember exactly how it was described.
Yes – I seem to recall that if the engines flame out, then an “off-on” sequence is attempted.
The other story with the preliminary report said there was a one second interval between switches being shut off. If a bump did it, the delay would have to be internal. First one then the other. For this not to get corrected immediately would indeed be a head scratcher as to why not.

If someone could get my recommendation yesterday to him about ORT, I would appreciate it. The sugar helps the salt do its job, and the salt helps the sugar do its job…..and the potassium and vitamin C also help.
I had an electrolyte imbalance at the beginning of the summer and now keep bottles of Gatorlyte on hand. Sodium, sugar, calcium, potassium, magnesium and chloride.
I’m just worried about him. I think the salt without sugar will mess him up, and the lack of potassium can jack everything from his sleep cycle to his ekg.
Agree with you about the salt without the sugar. Electrolyte imbalances are not to be taken lightly and if serious require immediate medical intervention. Been there done that.

Do you know what caused your electrolyte imbalance? I believe I may have had some incidents, but I’m not sure. I know that Gatorade helped.
The recent issue was a simple case of too much sugar which I balanced with some super salty water. Was very shaky, emotional for no reason, not thinking clearly. Like a diabetic reaction. Fortunately I realized what was happening and pulled out of it with the salt water.
The really bad unbalancing happened years ago from a brain injury. My hypothalamus was damaged causing an H (hypothalamus) P (anterior pituitary) A (adrenal cortex) axis issue, affecting cortisol which affected glucose levels. The HPA axis is very complex and I still don’t completely understand it all, but I do know how it affects me and what to do about it.
Initially I had to be on a constant IV of saline and dextrose or I would go into shock within a minute or two. Was on it for months. One day the homecare delivery didn’t show up and I was out of the solution. Shaky, couldn’t stand or walk, crawled over to my medical supply box and pulled out the saline IV flushes and just kept shooting them into my IV until I pulled out of it.
Eventually my brain healed and I graduated to sports drinks. Drank red and blue Powerades all day every day. Then was able to get off them as well. Things are still not 100% and never will be, so I try to be careful about my electrolyte levels. It’s been very hot here in Upstate so that is making things a little more challenging.
Electrolyte imbalances are terrifying if they get too severe. And life threatening. Even small imbalances can put a strain on the body. The Gatorlyte product comes in different flavors and is good to have on hand imo.
Probably way more info. than you wanted but electrolytes are vitally important. I never knew until I knew. 😁

This is aside from whatever dehydration issues occur.
In my case, the collapse+faint+fall+concussion+mildTBI that I had almost 5 years ago, is the root cause of things that are still lingering today — balance and gait issues; predisposition to heat stress/heat exhaustion issues; panic-anxiety issues; the need to be careful about salt-sugar-hydration. Ongoing vigilance.
I can testify that “mildTBI” is like saying, “a little bit pregnant.” The effects of any TBI can, and will, linger for years after the incident.
I can also testify that for a person to educate himself/herself on these types of things is invaluable.

Exactly! No matter how mild the injury appears there can still be long term problems, potentially complicated by life variables like stress which raises cortisol, which raises glucose and voila the potential for an electrolyte imbalance is created.
As people age and things don’t work as well, simple dehydration happens more easily and often. And yes! Education is important and applying it to your situation can save exhausting trips to the ER, which is my goal.

I wonder if that happened to my husband when he fainted and slid down the steps. He did not remember a thing. I now ask him to drink more. A Tale Of Woe & Frustrations Attempting Change
Well, it’s been a learning experience…
So I decided to capitulate and just buy a Intel chip box with Linux installed. Figuring I could just make it dual boot with Devuan if I didn’t like the SystemD infested installed OS, or do an “in place upgrade”. The kind of thing I’ve done hundreds of times on various SBCs (Single Board Computers like Raspberry Pi or Odroid N2).
But Nooooo…
I’ve basically spent the day (about the last 12 hours) just trying to do ordinary things that I’ve done 100 times on older BIOS based Intel boxes or on various SBCs with various boot systems (Grub, LiLo, that R.Pi weirdness and more).
The “short list” of crap I’ve run into starts with the box being very obstinate about NOT letting me change things. The annoyance continues with there being dozens of variations of “how to do it” over time, none of which has worked…
First off, it looks like while it is common to migrate Debian to Devuan, various pages for Ubuntu migration say it can’t be done, or only with great pain (and one guy has done it but about 6 releases back and expressed concern about trying it again on the release of Ubuntu about 4 back). So the “just point sources.list at Devuan and update / upgrade” is not going to cut it.

The major difference between Devuan and Debian sounds simple, but it’s really not. Debian changed its init software from SysV to systemd in 2015 with Jessie. The Devuan project started shortly thereafter with the idea of retaining SysV (it now can use runit or OpenRC, as well).
The init software is the first “program” to be loaded after the kernel. It manages the loading and initiation of all the other programs on the system, including the login system, timers, clocks, the user interface, and all. Systemd was designed to be backwards-compatible, so if all the systems believe that they’re booting on SysV, they’ll all boot properly. But if a subsystem believes that they’re booting under systemd, they gain some advantages.
System services under systemd work in a more straightforward manner, in that they can be started, stopped, reloaded, and enabled on startup in a consistent way. This has lead people to use them in a systemd way in preference to the older way. An example of this is the ancient Unix utility cron, which runs a program based on a schedule — most systems use systemd timers now [ https://anteru.net/blog/2024/replacing-cron-with-systemd-timers/ ].
A decade later, trying to roll back the adoption of systemd is a lost cause.
Moving to another issue, UEFI (the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFI ]) is, like the BIOS it replaced, built into the motherboard of most modern computers. UEFI implementations vary in quality — I have found that getting an HP to dual-boot is easier than other brands, for instance.
Moving to a third issue, with touchpads that include numbers and such — this may well need a specialized driver. Linux includes drivers for just about anything (which is why the kernel is somewhat corpulent), but not every single weird piece of hardware you’ll find.
He starts with the idea that he can make the new box do things in the old ways he is used to. And that is a recipe for frustration. And getting dual boot working is NOT for the faint of heart. Linux and Windows both want to be in charge of the boot records, IIRC.
Agree, Kalbo. I’m not into spending days – or weeks – trying to get Linux set up before I can even use my computer. I’m going to buy a refurbished computer that does Windows 11 from eBay. Once it has all my files on it and is working the way I want it to, then I might play around with getting Linux on the old one.

I will add, the entire point of investing in this effort is to jump free of the endless cost/churn involved with owning a Windows machine. You not only move to a less expensive platform (with a lot of free software) but you make gains in terms of privacy, etc. It’s a decision to put the energy/time in when that makes sense to you.
It never hurts to have a back up computer in any case.

We don’t know why he wasn’t at work, but of course everyone is speculating that they know why. I do hope to hear from him on Monday, but if he is staying, we might not hear anything. They might just all resume their work.
