Dear MAGA: 20190128 Open Topic

Welcome! The door is open, come on inside.
This Cozy Q Tree Monday open thread is VERY OPEN – a place for everybody to post whatever they feel they would like to tell the White Hats, and the rest of the MAGA world.
Say what you want, comment on what other people said, comment on people’s comments. Keep it civil. Treehouse rules, but expect lots of QAnon.

Remember – your greatest gift to President Trump is FIVE WORDS:

I AM PRAYING FOR YOU.

See the January 1st daily thread for the rules of the road, which are few but important.
Wheatie’s Rules:

  1. No food fights.
  2. No running with scissors.
  3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.

……………….

Welcome back Wolfmoon! We rejoice in your safe return. I am happy to report that everyone was on their best behavior during your absence! Haaa.

And I’m happy to be back!!! 😎
Thank you!!! 😀

Gil

A nice welcome home tree! I normally say lets have a glass of fire water nut, Im pretty sick…so a round of peppermint tea with honey is on me.
I dare someone to have acucksta autograph this book.
An excerpt from former West Wing official Cliff Sims’ new book — provided exclusively to Breitbart News ahead of the book’s public release on Monday — shows how CNN’s Jim Acosta peddled unsubstantiated misinformation from a disgruntled ex-Trump campaign aide about White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders as part of the network’s effort to push the Stormy Daniels scandal story.
In other words, Sims’ book reveals that CNN pushed out an attack on a current Trump aide by an ex-Trump aide — providing the ex-Trump aide with anonymity to shield the person’s identity — and did not verify whether it was actually true before CNN printed it.
Sims’ new book Team of Vipers: My Extraordinary 500 Days in the Trump White House is out on Monday and has already created a lot of waves with revelations about disloyalty to Trump from senior White House officials like current senior official Kellyanne Conway and former Chief of Staff John Kelly.

Nor'easter

Get well soon, Ms. Gil !

Gil

Yep me 3. Tis the season …😣🤧🤧🤧😌

Plain Jane

Hope you recoup faster than I did from a nasty cold, cough and prior Lower GI situation. The only plus from it was the exercise my tummy muscles got out of it. Yea, I’m a perpetual Pollyanna.

Gil

My kiddo picked up a gi thing at school and was pretty sick. I avoided that but probably just wore myself down cleaning and lack of sleep, plus mr gil got sick with mild gi. Im grateful its just a bad cold.

Plain Jane

Garlic, zinc, C, and Hot Toddies :-). Get well soon please.

Sylvia Avery

Take care, Gil. I’ve been recuperating a bit myself so I sympathize!

Elizabeth Carter

Sylvia, We were concerned about you. Glad you are better.

Sylvia Avery

Thank you so much! I’m really touched by the concern.

phoenixRising

missed you… hope and pray you’re better soon.

Sylvia Avery

Thanks phoenix!

bflyjesusgrl

So Good to hear from you Miss Sylvia. When shovel discussions are being had, and you’re noticeably absent, let me tell ya, a Search Party was brewing yesterday! Glad you’re better🤗

Sylvia Avery

TY, it is nice to be missed. I should have checked in but I just wanted to sleep and rummage around for chicken soup and then sleep some more.

Aubergine

I’ve been wondering about you! So glad you are better, and back with the shovel.
We may need it pretty soon.

Sylvia Avery

First order of business is to sharpen, shine, and polish the shovel. Readiness!

Gil

You hurry up and get better. Dont let your shovel get rusty.

Pat Frederick

feel better soon!
got it from your child (who was recently sick)?

Gil

No…..not even the same thing. Normally mr gil brings home viruses from work for us as gifts 😣 but kiddo was gi, this is a bad cold. I probably got it while I was out. Im pretty careful about touching and cleaning but I caught something anyways.

Pat Frederick

hope you feel better soon!

kea

Linda

Paging Ms. Coulter. Did you hear that? Now put out that fire on your hair and calm down for a day or two. You’re really tiring!

Nor'easter

Save your breath… You’d only have to tell her, AGAIN, sooner or later (probably sooner).
And again, and again, and again.

Linda

Yeah, she’s pretty much a lost cause.

bflyjesusgrl

Her and Cernovich make a lovely couple😜

Marica

Oh Great Wheatie of 1000 comments! or as Wolfie calls you Great Wheatie K!! Wolfie’s avatar in the heart of the tree!! um YEP!! Perfect welcome home post!! THis Tree is truly blessed!!!

Marica

You are an Amazing Gift to all of us!! Wolfie chose well!!! LOVE you Wheatie!!!

Sylvia Avery

Bless you, Wheatie, you have done a fabulous job taking care of us. And I have loved every tree!

Sylvia Avery

I haven’t even been able to log in here for a day or a day and half and I feel so out of touch! It’s horrible! I feel like events have raced by and I have only the vaguest idea of what’s been going on!
I really am fine, just beset with a couple of boring, and annoying, and minor health things and a couple of minor real life energy drains at the same time.
But I haven’t even been able to lurk and skim for the last day or two so I’m so out of date! I’m going to try to skim over the last couple of days.
I’ve missed hanging out here more than I would have believed!

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Just looking in here to quash all these false “temporary authorship” rumors I’m hearing through the grapevine…..
😉
Seriously, this place is moving FORWARD, not WACKBIRDS! 😀

drillerelite

Hey guys 👋, and thanks wolfmoon for letting me in. I’ve missed reading you guys lately and tried to join yesterday’s thread but since I was in moderation I’ll take the liberty to repost-
So this is where the cool kids are hanging out now. Yep, someone screwed up and left a link laying around where I could find it (flep) 😄.
I’m more a reader than a commenter but consider myself a treeper since around the time our great Lion announced his run. Anyway, I sensed something happening over there the last few months and stopped frequenting as much, its great to see so many of my favorite posters here and hope it’s ok if I find a comfy spot. 🍿🍺

drillerelite

😍

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

AMEN!

TatonkaWoman

You would be hard pressed to find many trees with comfy branches…but in this one all the branches are comfy. Just pick your’s and settle in.

drillerelite

Yes, quite a fine tree we’ve found here, not a bad seat in the place from what I can tell.

phoenixRising

welcome drillerelite… and you’re right, no bad seats.

rayzorbak

It’s not as much the Tree……
As it is the Wise and Witty Occupants 🙂

kea

Our tree is a very, very, very fine tree!!! 🙂

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Closest I could find to “very, very, very fine tree” – Crosby, Stills, & Nash. 🙂

Sylvia Avery

First thing i thought of. I love this song. Too bad those old hippies are such Commies. Ah well. Great song, and it definitely fills the bill.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Glad you’re well. Search party was being organized last night. I tried to check for when you last commented. 🙂

Sylvia Avery

Thanks LP! I can’t believe how much I have missed out on in just a couple days!

judyw

Sylvia, I enjoyed entertainment more when I had no idea about the political views of the entertainers.

Sylvia Avery

Oh boy, me too. It really, really detracts from my enjoyment and pleasure when I know I am being entertained by a Commie. Sigh.

Sylvia Avery

With two cats in the yard…

Sylvia Avery

🙂 🙂 🙂

Welcome to the New Tree!

Plain Jane

Happy to see you Drillerette. Welcome.

drillerelite

Thanks! Happy to find you guys

michaelh

I’m not sure I would describe us as “the cool kids” – most of the people here are seeking refuge after being banned from “The Last Refuge” which tells me that we weren’t the “cool kids” over there!
But yes, things have changed OT (“over there”). The good news is that we’ve all found each other.

drillerelite

Well, I made it in here so we’ll use the term lightly 😄

Sylvia Avery

LOL rf121 (or is it rf131? Oops!) told me we were more like the kids sent to alternative school than the cool kids which I thought was pretty hilarious!

drillerelite

Ha, sounds about right

Marica

Hi and Welcome Drill! Most Positive Place to be!! We Totally believe POTUS is a Very Stable Genius! And GOD has this!! So Welcome Welcome Welcome!! By the way –we dont BITE!!! We do Hug alot–and there is this Butterfly that does cartwheels and Sylvia has a massive Shovel ..and then there is STEVE. LOL!!
Sorry– the team may take me off the welcome wagon…Dang…

drillerelite

Ha, no I think you’re the right one run the welcome wagon Marica and I agree we have a VSGPDJT, God definitely has this and it’s been months since I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Sylvia threaten to get her shovel, I’ve missed that for sure!
Thanks so much! Well nothing like finally getting in and it being past my bedtime, figures. G’nite Qtree critters, varmints and, er… insects

Marica

Nite!! Super glad you are here!!

bflyjesusgrl

LOLOLOL, Marica!! 😍😍🦋🦋🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🦋🦋😎😎

Sylvia Avery

Oh, welcome! So glad you found us! I will NEVER forget how I felt when I found the Q tree after my experience Over There.
Fluff up a blanket and get comfy!

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Woohoo, Drillerelite found us!
A hardy welcome!

drillerelite

Woohoo, indeed! Feels like coming in from the cold, thanks for the welcome everyone 👊🤠

Aubergine

Welcome to the den!
You will find we are a happy, positive bunch. Not many (any?) Eeyores here.
Glad you found us (good job Flep!).

drillerelite

Thanks Aubergine! When I saw so many of my favorite treepers over here I knew this the place to be. Freedom of thought and expression are so refreshing. My favorite part of CTH was the comment section, then it became, not so much eventually

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

It sez “soils driller” when I hover over your avatar. I can think of three different things that might entail (and probably don’t know about twenty others). Are you perchance one who does the soil tests for builders?

drillerelite

Yep, I operate a drill and gather soil samples for foundation designs. Snowing here so I’m not going out there today. I get to rare chance to stay comfy in the Tree ☕

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

So sandy here it almost perc’ed too well to get a septic permit. I certainly didn’t need to do that funky float-framing.

drillerelite

Yeah, sand/sandstone are great for building, not expansive. Hit or miss for leach fields as it can drain too fast or compact if too silty and not drain at all. New regs require two 8′ pits and we gather samples where the soil changes but I still drill perc holes, our boss likes to know that perc rate still.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

I thought I saw you mention Colorado, it’s entirely possible you work for the people that did my tests (almost 20 years ago).

drillerelite

Could be, we’re a small outfit out of Franktown. Used to be called Geo Technica back then I believe. I’ve been their driller for about 6 years or so

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

I think they had multiple branches. “Front Range Geotechnical” but yep, that’s the outfit, but not from Franktown.

Cuppa Covfefe

Welcome, and good to see you here, Drill!
Lots of great branches, nice and brilliant branch-dwellers, and a well-rooted stable tree… with Quality beyond compare and Wolfmoon as our great host (leader of the pack)
(now that tune’s going through my head:) )…

drillerelite

Thanks so much Covfefe! I’m real glad to see who’alls in here and Wolfmoon’s always had brilliant posts, seems we’re in good hands. (Got that tune in my head now, ha! )

Linda

Wheatie, I’m glad you added that “haaa” at the end. 🙂

bflyjesusgrl

Oohh Miss Wheatie, I really really like this Tree!! Pleez, oh Pleez, Can I have a Window??😍😍🦋🦋

bflyjesusgrl

TYSVM!! Yes Ma’am, Guard Duty, On It!! “Butterfly Salutes Wheatie”

Harry Lime

You’re in luck, this is the Q Tree…everyone gets a window!

Harry Lime

…and a snack!

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

The last person here who needs brownie points just got them anyway.

Harry Lime

No nuts, please. I had enough of those OT.
😀

kea

LOL Well that’s a LOT of nuts….I must say.
Ok who threw the squirrel at me? No way it fell….Unless it was overcome with so much winning…. 😉
Yeah I’m going to bed. Night all.
Keep Calm and MAGA on.

Linda

Take this with a grain of salt, but FBI Anon (if it’s even the same guy) posted on 4chan yesterday that Comey and Brennan have been indicted and will be served 2 weeks from this Friday. That would make it Feb. 15th, about the time when POTUS will either declare a national emergency or put us back into shutdown. He also said a grand jury is currently working on the Clinton Foundation and he expects them to be indicted in about 2 months. We shall see. The original FBI Anon made some very accurate and interesting posts a couple years ago about the whole Clinton fiasco with the emails. If this is the same guy (and how would we know on a Chan), he could very well know.

Linda

Oh yes. I can just see the all the media with their hair on fire accusing POTUS of being a dictator and yadda yadda yadda.

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

This is something we really need to be ready to respond to, because it actually WILL look to many people like some of the actions Hitler undertook to transform Germany into a dictatorship in the early-mid 1930s, and believe me, I’m not giving the YSM media/DNC any ideas by saying that; they’ve already thought of it.
I believe that, in large part this is the reason Trump hasn’t already done this. There has to be a way to convince the vast numbers of people in the middle that it’s at least plausible that these people deserve this and it’s not just lashing out at the opposition. We know, of course that the YSM will say that’s what it is endlessly, but unlike GWB Trump won’t just sit by and let it be repeated so often it becomes “truth” to most people.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

This is the narrative I am not looking forward to having to debunk.

judyw

Steve, if they would just take out all the “news sources” that were on the list of colluding with FBI/DOJ/Deep State there would be more somber reporting by those few left to speak. 😉

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

True that.
But I wasn’t speaking just of the YSM but of the Democrat party operatives themselves.
An unbiased media would have to report what they are saying (as they do now) but of course they’d report the loyalist side too (as they don’t now).

PS— Aren’t you so happy and relieved Wolfie is HOME?!!

Alison

Yes!

Things changed and I got kicked off my branch truth can be a friend but often frightens people.
I am so happy to be on this branch and all the intelligent people are here. Truth is refreshing and life giving.
Thank you for allowing me to be here it is humbling.

Marica

Like i said before–SingingSoul definitely belongs here!😘

sunnydaysall

That is why I post questionable (in my view) articles and videos from time to time because I trust the opinions here or on ChurchMouse’s site! I do not do that anywhere else because of the backlash.
Just like with the Covington High School craziness! I posted because I had a gut feeling something was not right about it and the wonderful people here took it and flew with it! Even a blog was posted here reference the incident! This place is truly a haven in such dire times! Thanks everyone! 🙂

Cuppa Covfefe

I’d like to see the two of them get 4AM visits from the “unwelcome wagon” so they can see how it feels. Followed by a few decades in Gitmo to reflect on it…

Gudthots

Circus.

judyw

I’ve heard that from 2-3 others … Feb 15th…not names but “high level” people

sunnydaysall

And then there was this interview… I am not a big Mark Levine fan but this interview caught my attention!
Sidney Powell and Mark Levin: Pelosi, Schumer, and Democrats Know Mueller’s Report Will Destroy Trump

Linda

Personally, I don’t think Mueller’s report will even touch POTUS. The way those corrupticrats leak, we would have heard it by now. And doesn’t it have to go through Whitaker before it’s released? (Or Barr, depending on when).

Pat Frederick

Wasn’t Barr supposed to be confirmed on the 29th?

bflyjesusgrl

Had a thought yesterday about the Nunes Bartiromo interview yesterday. He said Mueller’s Secret Scope was possibly about the Clinton Dossier. If that’s true, might be why Gowdy and some of the other Repugs have been saying to let Mueller finish???….Cuz they know there’s nothing there and can’t harm POTUS??

para59r

What ever they put out will go the way the Covington story went in short order I’m sure. That’s to say the dems will have their story and we’ll be sticking with ours, ty very much, add in some declas and prosecutions and its great fun for all.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Okay, that wasn’t as bad as I thought. Interesting info about May Flood from Houston Chronicle and Andrew Weissman.
Sidney Powell is one of the few people I truly admire. I would start a fan club for her or KT McFarland.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

You guys are going to laugh.
RE: Google Programming suited for each person.
I told husband about the Sidney/Levin youtube clip above and he pulled it up as well.
I pulled it up on my laptop to watch it.
AFTER the video, the next video in the Youtube loop is suited to your preferences.
Husband got a video of the Patriots versus Atlanta highlights from last SuperBowl.
I got an event at the National Press Club on geopolitics of Venezuela.

Marica

Of course you did!! LOL!!!

SteveInCO · Thermonuclear MAGA

I’m not sure here, but it seems premised (again) on this idea people seem to have that Mueller is about to finish up.
He’s only going to finish when Trump is out of office, which will either be 2025 OR earlier in the unlikely event he actually produces evidence. (And I mean “produces” in both ways here.)

From the article:
“The opiate epidemic began in Appalachia …’”
“It’s difficult not to think that was deliberate on someone’s part: poor whites.”
_____________________________________
I live in Appalachia and did a 10 page paper on opiate when in College. That was an eye opener. The clear fault was with Pharma and Doctors who had no idea how the Opiates would affect patience.
My Doctor told me everyone who is addicted here where I live became addicted because Doctors prescient the Opiate.
My research showed that the Pharma handed out Oxycontin like candy.
Where I live drugs is the biggest epidemic in OH.

churchmouse

How sad, singingsoul. Thank you for the information.
I still wonder if it was a deliberate ploy, though.
I toured Appalachia many years ago. It was nearly all Caucasian at the time — probably still is in many parts — and they had very little in terms of welfare, town renewal programmes, etc.
Once back home, it was hard not to notice that Northern and coastal city centres received a lot of public aid and urban renewal. There was nothing, however, for those in Appalachia.
I personally think that American elites would be delighted if everyone in Appalachia died.
I’m sorry to say that, but no one in power gives a fig about them.

churchmouse

Wow.
Thank you for the personal testimony.
These personal stories are important.
I heard from a European friend of mine who said she was devastated because a drug she had used daily for at least 20 years was taken off the market for ‘safety’ reasons. (Her national media have been going hammer and tongs over it, saying it’s ‘dangerous’ to human health.)
I would appreciate hearing more anecdotes from people who are missing their usual drugs.
Wheatie, do you have any Darvocet left for ’emergencies’? If not, what do you take now? I empathise with you — and your doctor.

judyw

CM, the absolute best treatment I’ve found for pain relief is Ortho-Bionomy. I had to sit with my foot elevated for several weeks while a Jones fracture healed and the lack of physical activity stirred up back issues from a car wreck that had not bothered me for years. I did physical therapy, a year of regular chiropractic treatments besides regular massage therapy and I could not walk 10 minutes without pain that stopped me in my tracks.
I attended a Seminar on Tapping and the lady who led that seminar recommended an Ortho-Bionomy practitioner near me and I can tell you she was an angel in my path. I think I got 3 treatments and have no issues now. I still do the self-care exercises which are so simple and effective. A great book on the technique is Ortho-Bionomy: A Path To Self Care by Luann Overmyer and you can find youtube videos demonstrating how it works.

churchmouse

Wow! Ortho-Bionomy sounds a lot better than drugs!
Delighted to read that you are pain free now, Judy. How marvellous.

Cuppa Covfefe

The Elites have a resort (and bunker) at Greenbrier in southern West Virginia.
How “fitting” for the elite, globalist parasites to kill off their hosts… My ancestors (on one side) are in and on the hills of Appalachia. I visited some farms and houses my grandfather owned, and the poverty there was indescribable. Yet the people were good, hard-working, (usually) Christian people, who helped each other. My grandpa, for his part, never raised the rent above what his tenants could afford, even though it was often much less than he could have gotten (and what the out-of-town locusts charged).
Øblowhole did a multiple whammy (Øbammy-whammy?) on the poor people there. First, killing off the mines and other industries, especially those related to or dependent upon mining. Second, many of the unemployed went on disability, and became victims of overmedication and the resulting dependencies… Of course, Po’ white fo’k (or whites in general, for that matter) are the worst enemy of all for Øbozo and his globalist masters like Satan Soros…
Mountaineers Are Always Free.
And that’s something the globalists HATE and want to eliminate… The only freedom they hate worse is TRUE FREEDOM by Salvation through Faith in Jesus Christ…
And West Virginians, even the (D) voters, tend to be more conservative, and more Christian than elsewhere (or at least used to 50-60 years ago when I used to go there a lot)…

churchmouse

The people in the Appalachians had been suffering for generations long before O.
They were always hated ever since they moved away from the mid-Atlantic coast during Colonial times or early independence (I’d have to look up the exact dates).
There was also a religious rift on the mid-Atlantic coast between the Anglicans (predominant in society) and the Covenanters (biblical Scots Calvinists who held to a certain scriptural-historical line).
Consequently, the Covenanters fled to safety, to the mountains, where no one could attack them.
‘Mountaineers Are Always Free.’ Indeed.
Agree, though, that O did his part by closing down any remaining mines. This explains why West Virginia residents were — and are — so happy with PDJT.
As for other parts of the Appalachians immediately outside the mining area, I couldn’t begin to tell anyone what a person could do there for a job. There are only so many waitresses, short order cooks and small shop owners the market there can handle. We’re talking little mountain communities — or at least when I visited. Shacks have since been replaced with mobile homes (source: a documentary I saw on British television in the early 1990s).
Cuppa Covfefe, I’m sure you can fill in more details here. You are 110% in saying that the ‘poverty there was indescribable’, ‘yet the people were good, hard-working, (usually) Christian people, who helped each other’.
As I read your comment, I kept saying to myself, ‘Yep, yep, yes, yep, yes …’ ad infinitum. You couldn’t have expressed it better.
As for Greenbrier, I had the chance to go a few years later after the Appalachian trip and politely refused. I understand it was marvellous (ugh).
Many thanks — greatly appreciated.

Cuppa Covfefe

As I said, my ancestors (on one side) are in and on the hills of Appalachia. West Virginia is rich in beautiful nature and natural resources, and also with people who can tame, use, and mine them.
The railroads (C&O and B&O in particular, as well as smaller, specialized RRs like Cass Mountain) have been important to WV’s history and growth, along with the mining and logging that fed them. The Art Glass Industry (Fendin, Milton, Blenko, Pilgrim, and a host of others) has been very important (probably not so much now as before), as well as the bottling glass industry (Owen-Illinois, for instance, and Owens developed the machine that made it all possible, there).
O-I Huntington also used to make all the art glass designer bottles for Avon and other companies. Now, sadly, gone. West Virginia is a major outpost for the medical industry, especially that concerned with geriatrics (and, yes, the med biz could also be contributing to the painkiller crisis).
Various chemical companies call West Virginia home, although I’m not necessarily sure that’s a good thing (rumor has it that the Hot Dogs at Stewart’s on Fifth Avenue were “extra special” because of the (paint) pigment plant behind them. I suspect that was really a rumor started by the other Hot Dog places in town (of which there are many, the competition is stiff (as are the buns on a bad day), and coleslaw on (or not on) a chili-dog can be fighting words). Who knows,” slaw or not” may have been the origin of the Hatfields versus the McCoys…
Many, many craft industries, though small, dot the towns and cities of West Virginia. Øbozo’s attempt to kill coal (and the people of Appalachia) have failed, and VSGPDJT has started the revival of “Big Coal”.
I don’t think you missed much re: Greenbrier. I’d much rather go see Green Bank NRO and stare into space (albeit electronically). My few experiences with the illuminati-class rich have been somewhat less than memorable (basically made me sick to my stomach at the decadent wealth and elitist atmosphere), especially as it almost seemed as if the smell of sulpher was lurking there in the background – Dark Lord watching his subjects, as it were…

churchmouse

Thank you very much for the West Virginia precis, CC.
I appreciate the background not only to the history but also industry in that long-forgotten state.
For me and mine crossing Tennessee in the area around the Cumberland Gap there did not seem much to do for work.
Talk about people being trapped. Wow. It was shocking.
The Appalachian trip was a two-day journey. I don’t even remember the two motels we stayed in (I wanted to forget).
I just felt so sorry for the people in so many mountain villages in Tennessee who had next to nothing in their cafes to eat (very sparse menus) and the women carrying charity boxes from Goodwill home to their families.
The shotgun shacks abounded then. These days, they are mobile homes. The residents, from what I saw then and in the early 1990s (again, the television documentary), still lacked proper health care and education.
How their home country has failed them.
Yet, they have been true Americans since the beginning of the Great Republic.
Very few documentaries have been made about these people. The short series — three episodes, I think — had one about ‘snake in the box’ churches, taken from a debatable verse at the end of Mark’s Gospel.
No one gives a damn about these good people.
Good grief.

Cuppa Covfefe

(Hope this comes out where it’s not too narrow)
Talking about Appalachia, and the poverty and people there, Kathy Mattea has a CD, “Coal”, that is an homage both to her late father and to Coal Miners everywhere, but particularly in Appalachia. Love her voice, hate her politics (how could an EE go so far wrong?).
There are many great songs on that CD about mining, Appalachia, and life in the coalfields, among them “The L and N Don’t Stop Here Anymore”, but the most stirring is a song by Darrell Scott called “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive”, which captures the situation the coal miners face, and have always faced. Kathy has a section on her website about Coal, not just the album, but a lot of background information (including mountaintop shaving, which also grinds my grits).
The best version on YouTube is by Patty Loveless, also from a Coal mining background (I like the arrangement on Kathy Mattea’s album better, but this one’s good, too, and live).
The way Patty says “Louisville” says she’s the real deal…takes me back…

Cuppa Covfefe

An interesting comment on that video was this:

I’m from Harlan and have a long line of coalminers in my family. My dad, both my grandfathers… since the beginning of mining in the area. Patty has the feeling in her voice needed to sing this song and it absolutely tears me up. I remember growing up, thinking one day I would escape. I did. 30 years later, I’m back to the mountains again. It’s my home and always will be.

Oops. Forgot the link: http://www.mattea.com/coal.html
It is a great CD. Her A Capella performance of “Black Lung” is both edgy and poignant. And you can feel the pain that the miners/victims go through…

Cuppa Covfefe

And some more Bluegrass, with a West Virginian singing and on fiddle, with Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless singing Daniel Prayed. Great music from the hills of Kentucky, borne of hard times for great people…

Terrific, CC.
Thanks for the links.

The thoughts that just ran through my head are not very nice. Following the footsteps of the chemical companies, huh. Yes, I know what “chemical valley” is east of Charleston, West Virginia. Hint: DO NOT eat fish from any river close to there.

thetinfoilhatsociety

With all due respect, BS. This is an opinion article without substantiation. I can tell you in all seriousness that schizophrenia is genetically linked and someone with Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry has a statistically significantly greater chance of being diagnosed with schizophrenia than any other population in the world. A result of schizophrenia is not the same as a cause of schizophrenia. Marijuana, if anything, would calm the voices not make them worse. Which is exactly what all the psych drugs they use do, with significantly more serious side effects. Self medication.
And as to violence….have you ever smoked marijuana? If you’re good and stoned you’ll be lucky to move from your seat for several hours let alone commit violence. That takes effort. Now the dealers…they are likely violent, but not people who smoke. Not if they’re only smoking pot and not also using other substances that do increase violent tendencies like alcohol – which increases testosterone (temporarily, then you get a surge of estrogen).
As to this author’s psychiatrist wife, I would question where her investments lie. I would also question the controlled double blind studies, or at least the longitudinal studies. Because I happen to know that there are very, very few, precisely because it’s such a bogeyman for our government. There are no longitudinal studies that have been done since I think the 70’s, and most people don’t even have access to the research. You have to know somebody who knows somebody to get it. I have a few studies that I got from a somebody who knows a researcher. They actually say much the opposite of what is opined in this article, at least in regards to medical use.
Why is it, do you think, all these articles are coming out as states move to legalize it? As the POTUS talks about getting it rescheduled? It’s because you can’t patent a plant. And, therefore, they must demonize a plant. Humans have evolved to use cannabis – we have cannaboid receptors. Yes, cannaboid. If we’ve had such a signficant relationship with a plant that we’ve actually evolved receptors I seriously question the narrative that marijuana should be being demonized.

Plain Jane

Interesting opinion, but, as you point to the lack of studies available to the general populace, the jury is still out.
Until then, I can only rely on anecdotal observations I’ve made since the 70s and those observations indicate to me at least, that cannabis plays with the mind and affects brain chemistry.
The new promotions for CBD oil use is softening the populace for acceptance of medical and recreational use of weed. My DIL, a practicing PharmD, and I have discussed CBD oil for my pain, and there are no conclusive studies indicating any efficacy of use.

Guess we better make coffee illegal, then, eh?
“The moment that we take that first sip of coffee, caffeine quickly moves through the bloodstream and triggers a release of catecholamines, adrenaline, and noradrenaline. At the same time, caffeine in coffee suppresses the appetite, which inhibits the body’s ability to produce more neurotransmitters.
As a result, coffee provides a short-term solution that creates a long-term problem.
How Caffeine Affects Brain Chemistry
Caffeine impacts brain chemistry because it binds to proteins called adenosine receptors. Just like they sound, these receptors help to detect adenosine in the brain and can induce drowsiness. When caffeine binds to these receptors, it hinders brain cells from sensing adenosine to provide an immediate jolt and eliminate drowsiness temporarily.
This is precisely why so many of us are drawn to caffeine to stay awake throughout a long day. Caffeine has been proven to boost mental performance for the purpose of work, study, and performing complex tasks.
Since caffeine works as a central nervous stimulant, it will cause the body to “forget” that it is tired. When used in moderation, caffeine can help to keep energy levels up during the day. The caveat is that tolerance is built quickly; to make up for adenosine receptors that have been inhibited by caffeine, the brain will create even more receptors. As a result, more caffeine is needed to keep drowsiness at bay.
When the brain detects increased adenosine, it will make you feel even more tired than if you’d never picked up a cup of coffee at all. Now, you’ll need even more caffeine to keep energy levels up and help your brain to function at its best.”

Plain Jane

Sounds like there is the element of diminishing returns. I’ve experienced that. 🙂

Plain Jane

BTW, unless it’s psychological, I don’t find diminishing returns from tea. Don’t have any other clues as to why.

NebraskaFilly

Tea vs. coffee has always confused me since I have heard that tea has more caffeine! Years ago, I was diagnosed with fibrocystitus – cysts in the breasts – and was told that caffeine aggravated it so I should drink decaf coffee and decaf Coke, yet there was no warning with tea.

Plain Jane

I know. It confuses me also. For some reason I assumed ( wrongfully) that green tea was naturally sans caffeine. I’m such a dummy sometimes.

NebraskaFilly

Not dumb at all – just not informed. Everything is sooooo very complicated these days….one day, pan-fried hamburger causes cancer, the next – not so much. Who is one to believe anyway?

Plain Jane

I think I wiil just start believing my gut. LOL.

thetinfoilhatsociety

Actually there are, and I have access to those studies. They are within the last 3 years. And the jury is most definitely that it is helpful for pain. People who are on narcotic pain relievers use significantly less if they have access to CBD and THC compounds for their pain. Both CBD alone and combination compounds are proven to relieve pain. That’s why we have cannaboid receptors. Because cannaboids are pain relievers.

Plain Jane

Interesting. I will ask DIL to dig around some.

You could be right because I do not know and I only know what I have see.
My neighbors were all on Pot the parents and two teenage kids.
One kid never did Pot and went on to College. Two other kids one got married had a kid divorced at 20.
Theater was in and out of rehab.
Parents dad was functional but not much motivation . Mom we would see sitting under a bush at times counting leaves. She heard voices did not eat lost her job and walked aimless back and forth on the street. She was not like that before she smacked Pot.
They moved to Florida and they are still in my prayers.
I have two female friends one did Pot when young and her thinking is different . The other still does Pot has balance problems much medical problems that began around 60. Both take no responsibility about life choices and choices they still make. Both way more intelligent than I am but messed up their life with nothing to show for except having escaped into a Pot filled fantasy.
You might be right that Pot is not harmful but the people I have met are screwed up but do not know it because the drug has clouted their introspective.

NebraskaFilly

“Mom we would see sitting under a bush at times counting leaves. She heard voices did not eat lost her job and walked aimless back and forth on the street. She was not like that before she smacked Pot.” I can pretty much guarantee she was on MUCH more than just pot!

Plain Jane

Gateway? Perhaps?

NebraskaFilly

Alcohol is the original gateway drug.

Plain Jane

I could see that.

NebraskaFilly

It is beer here in NE. Far too many drink it like water!

Plain Jane

Interesting how alcohol affects individuals differently. Some are happy, some get mean, some start crying after much mirth. Possibly same with all drugs. Huh! I giggle then just get sleepy.

NebraskaFilly

Well, everyone has different body chemistry so it will all affect individuals differently. I quit drinking to excess (still have a Bloody Mary, glass of wine or a beer with pizza) – I did NOT like the person I turned into. My mouth loses ALL control and I end up in places I just shouldn’t be! MJ just turns me mellow and philosophical, as well as sleepy and hungry (sometimes – depends on the MJ). Never do I go to work after partaking but I used to with alcohol all the time. Shoot, we used to go out and get drunk over lunch! It was an accepted fact of life. It frightens me sometimes, how complacent people are about alcohol consumption.

Plain Jane

Sometimes alcohol has it’s place. Four or five of us lay teachers met for lunch across the street from our Catholic school the day of the kid’s afternoon Christmas party. The waitress asked if we wanted the special coffee withour lunch. I was the newbie so while the other teachers were giggling their yes, I did also. I have to say that coffee made taking the afternoon’s energy level to an all new high for me. Not mich te kids did bothered me. I always wondered if the nuns knew, then I figured the nuns did the same for lunch in the convent dining room at their lunch on party days.

NebraskaFilly

ROFL – too funny! As with anything, moderation is the key, clearly. Our family minister used to share a beer with my German grandmother when he visited. She would let me have a small juice glass of beer on NY’s Eve. I guess for me it is a matter of control – I refuse to let these substances control me. LOL

Plain Jane

Sounds like the definition of Democrats. Hmmm.

thetinfoilhatsociety

Correlation does not equal causation. And as you so kindly verify, my point about marijuana not increasing the incidence of violence stands. Anyone who makes that assertion is making unjustified assertions and correlating without proving cause.
Those people were self medicating I would guess. Especially the mother who was hearing voices.
I would also question whether the marijuana was laced with something else. And I know for a fact that really awful toxic things are sprayed on marijuana by illegal growers to keep wildlife from eating it – things we know are toxic to humans. It doesn’t wash off and no one washes their pot before processing anyway in an illegal grow operation. That is one major reason for legalization – so growing conditions are monitored, and harmful chemicals are not put onto the crop.

Gudthots

Personal observation. Know of three middle aged men with long time MJ use that died of heart attacks. Important to note that cannaboid receptor is related to immune function. Perhaps reduction of pain is related to suppression of immune activity?

thetinfoilhatsociety

No. Chronic pain is related to reduction of immune function due in part to chronic stress and the accompanying changes in adrenal function that entails, along with all the other health issues that ensue. If these guys died of heart attacks it’s more than likely they were eating a high carb diet (something that goes with adrenal dysfunction like PB goes with J).

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Read OT article, “Tripwire Alert – Adam Schiff interview with Georgie” 99.9% of the comments are people who no longer believe that we’re going to win this. Furthermore, they expect the worst at this time for everything. In fact, if you’re not an Eeyore “4sure” asked for SD to keep any of the “plan” people from sharing their ideas.
Anyway, looked for a voice of reason, and there was Ristvan:
January 27, 2019 at 7:13 pm
“This has already been deconstructed several times. Schiff can huff and puff, but cannot blow the PDJT house down. Else would have happened long before now.”
I said the other day, the “Plan” I trust is POTUS.
Other ponderings: I don’t doubt that POTUS has known from the beginning that a Dem House would bring ‘get it on so to speak. Therefore, he would have made battle plans.
Exciting times ahead. POTUS is dealing from a position of innocence, (they think Mueller is going to take out Don Jr – like Stone) – the Deep State is dirty up to their necks – just think of all that POTUS knows and can expose.

Pat Frederick

Charged with anything? so innuendo and suspicions aren’t enough any more? Schiff intends to release transcripts to Mueller and point out areas he believes Don Jr has lied–they have set precedence now with Stone–they are going after anyone they THINK lied (to Congress)–so yes expect a raid going after Don Jr. FBI. 50 cars. battering rams. pre dawn. expect it—probably close to the shutdown deadline…they are that crazy.

Wolf Moon | Threat to Demonocracy

Their premise over there is that they’ll get Don Jr on a process crime, hence the Schiff showcasing. Mueller has had those transcripts for over a year, and that’s (?) how he is finding the process crimes. ie. Stone.

BINGO!!!

gosh, it’s been a long time since I was 16, but iirc, at 16, you have a junior license–can’t have more than x amount of passengers, can’t drive after a certain hour at night, can’t drink, can’t buy cigarettes, can’t enlist…but yes, they are mature enough to vote…

thanks for the morning giggles! love the Saturday night one!

these are great!

bflyjesusgrl

Geez, isn’t that what you’re supposed to do to become a citizen?? Learn our history, civics, English, Assimilate???

Pat Frederick

my grandfather came here as a child from Hungary–he had to learn English, history, civics and had to pass tests. The copies of his naturalization program–where his name was listed–is and remains a source of pride for our family and we all have copies. (and it’s a big family–gramps grew up and fathered 15 children!)

I am not even going to admit how long I watched that toaster waiting for something to happen. 😂

So the gov’t reopens today…what 8am? 9am? and by 8:05am (9:05am or whatever) I’m sure POTUS will have sent a letter or invitation to Nancy to discuss the SOTU, as per her previous letter—the government reopens, we discuss it. I do not expect POTUS to let grass grow under his feet, while he holds her feet to the fire.

GA/FL

Today – two great political minds will meet and discuss many things…likely the SOTU will come up.
