Dear MAGA: 20190208 Open Topic

This special AOC is the Pol Pot of Climate Socialist Failure Friday Open Thread is VERY OPEN.

You can say what you want, comment on what other people said, and so on. Keep it civil. Rules much like the Old Treehouse, except of course Q discussion is not only allowed but encouraged. A couple of other important things to consider. This here link….https://wqth.wordpress.com/2019/01/01/dear-maga-open-topic-20190101/

….contains some general guidelines for things that are really, really not kosher to post here.

Also consider Wheatie’s Rules (as amended by SteveInCO):

  1. No food fights.
  2. No running with scissors.
  3. If you bring snacks, bring enough for everyone.
  4. No shooting at the nuclear warheads.

Remember – this is a free speech zone. Barring the few minor things that can get this site closed down, you ain’t gonna get banned.

And once the Gab commenting layer is here – BOOM.

– – · –

The current plan for Dear MAGA threads is to switch to a format where people have ONE NIGHT A WEEK that they take care of the thread. For example, Wheatie will put up the SATURDAY thread on FRIDAY NIGHT.

  • Monday – Wolf
  • Tuesday – Wolf
  • Wednesday – Wolf
  • Thursday – Wolf
  • Friday – Wolf
  • Saturday – Wheatie
  • Sunday – ThinkThinkThink

If anybody else would be interested in being a Dear MAGA author one night a week, feel free to let me know.

Remember that our greatest gift to President Trump is PRAYER!

WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOU!

AND YES. Not only should we continue to pray for our President, who is of course a fellow believer, as well as for our nation, and for our world, but let me suggest praying that our resident non-believer, SteveInCO, finds his way back here soon! Surely I’m not the only person who misses him!

Finally, let us pray YET AGAIN for an end to the slaughter of the unborn, particularly when they have almost made it safe and sound into this world, and are being cruelly cut down just before birth by those who profit on their deaths.

Let us further pray that INFANTICIDE never again appears on this planet as an acceptable practice!

On the subject of Steve’s choice to move on, I will simply say the following.

I respect his wishes. Having once been something of an atheist myself (albeit corrupted at an early age by a religious caregiver), I can appreciate his quandary. Moving among communities on the internet is a normal part of life, and we have to make choices about where we spend our time. I have left other communities for here, and I can envision having to leave here, too, although rather unlikely at the moment.

Steve is welcome to return here in the future, if he wishes, but no matter what, I will wish him well on his travels, and hope we meet again, if not here, then elsewhere on the internet.

The coin below is in his honor.

I will only say wrt Steve
Fare thee well.

Loved and missed.
Never forgotten.
Always welcome.

GA/FL

Absolutely! A cherished friend!

SingularZoe

So very true.

Plain Jane

No wonder I love you Steve and enjoyed your comments, you are all my six engineers of various disciplines (plus the ones still in school) all rolled into one.
As far as atheism, no prejudice here. I admit it makes me sad for people who don’t have faith, just as I am sad that our best friend DH’s college roommate, neighbor for years and also cousin, was an atheist. He was a good, kind, generous, intelligent soul who was fun to be with. Yes, I still pray for him, and won’t lie, I will continue to pray for all peoples to know God.
Love you Steve, miss you, and please pop in here at least once in a while.

redlegleader68

Steve … as other have said, you will be missed. Your decision is respected here, make no mistake.
Allow me to leave you with this, fervently hoping that you’ll drop in once in a while:
WWG1WGA …

SingularZoe

Oh, Lady P., sorry to say I’m not sure I looked at your thread on infanticide as it was just all too sad and shocking, and I was trying to deal with so much anger to think this was happening in our country. Wow. I see.

Steve in Lewes

Lady,
I somewhat disagree about engineers since I am one as well, BS-Mechanical Eng UofMD,College Park.
Yes, I am precise when it matters, but you have to keep your ability to assess the venue one is engaged in and make a decision as to whether being precise is critical to the discussion. Challenging one’s lack of precision on a topic that doesn’t make a significant difference in the outcome, is petty and I would go further to say that the person doing that just wants others to know how ‘smart’ they are. A non-scientific example; when others point out improper grammar, spelling, etc in other’s comments really doesn’t change the meaning; it’s petty and serves no real purpose.
The venue here is Wolf’s blog. IMHO, a blog is a place where 90%+ of the comments are based on emotions and feelings that are generally in response to factual events that have occurred. We all see it every day where even a rebuttal with precise facts doesn’t make a difference in changing anyone’s feelings or emotions; it just gets people more pissed off at each other. A really good example are all those NeverTrumpers who claimed that moniker because they viewed DJT as a liberal democrat and would govern as one. The fact is that PDJT has proven the exact opposite, but that hasn’t changed many of the NT’s; it’s got them more pissed off because they were wrong and pointing that out to them makes it even worse.
With that said, I find SteveInCO’s farewell post somewhat disingenuous. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed many of his comments, but he goes to great lengths to describe his ‘science’ background, how he’s one for precision, and even divulges his atheism. BUT, his reason for ‘leaving’ is emotional; his feelings were hurt…to put it bluntly. He couldn’t handle many of the ‘religious’ connotations expressed here by others even though none were directed to him personally. That is an emotional decision, not a scientific one.
Being precise is good, but being pragmatic gets thing accomplished.
With that said, I wish SteveInCO well and would like to see him return; if he decides otherwise…so be it; life will go on and others will takes his place…no one is indispensable. Just as many of us here experienced over on CTH. SD was is/was good, but changed. SteveInCO is/was good but changed. And as Wolf said, he may move on one day…Life is like that, we make friends; circumstances change; then we move on.

Gudthots

Perhaps it takes a certain … grace … to hold in tension what is imperfect against what is accurate?
I fully support Steve’s choice. Freedom of association is part of liberty. We will miss him terribly, but he added a little of his DNA to our Q Tree from the beginning and he won’t be forgotten soon.

Emeraldstar

Good post, Steve in Lewes – well put.
One never knows the backgrounds of others – your bona fides, my bona fides, whoever’s. It’s a bit dangerous to claim superiority, even in a single area – there is always someone “smarter”, more qualified, etc.
I’ve come across WAY too many people who had the blessing of a tremendously analytical mind – high IQ, high scores, et al. – who couldn’t see the forest for the trees, when it came to relationships and human interaction.
Ironically, I’ve usually found that the Bible gives the key: Vanity. Without humbleness, one can get into all kinds of trouble … which a genius-level analytical IQ is ill-suited to foresee / perceive. One needs a balance, with what’s called “EQ”.
“Above all, to thine own self be true.” (This is an apt definition of EQ, I think.)
I often refer to science as “the art of seeing”. One must see oneself truly (or close), before one has the chops to see others truly (or close).

churchmouse

You nailed it, sister.
Many thanks.

Emeraldstar

Er, “brother” please!
YW!

churchmouse

My sincere apologies!!

Emeraldstar

“It wasn’t you Lady P.”
I suspect I bear some responsibility, perhaps the most.
I’d “laid into” him BEFORE your authored post on infanticide, about two or three weeks prior. I wasn’t very kind. I dislike haughty behavior, and not allowing for what one doesn’t know.
Afterward, I tried to help him out by really explaining what another of my posts meant (he thanked me, and understood), and I reassured him that we’re all on the same side. Meaning, small differences are a low priority.
But a few times, in the past month, I “had words” with him.
Perhaps with the words of others, it reached “critical mass” for him.
“I always try to be diplomatic”
Yes, Lady P – and you succeed!

churchmouse

It’s a small consolation, Lady P, but I agreed with your terminology (‘infanticide’, IIRC) then and will agree with it in future.
It’s sad that a question of ***words*** is all it takes for someone to drop off commenting on a website. I thought Steve was above that, especially given his intelligence.
Perhaps a nerve was touched which brought home a very uncomfortable reality?
That might well be the issue.
One can argue about semantics, but one cannot argue about the deed itself.
I would very much like to see SteveInCO return, but there could well be a personal issue which might be greater than semantics — and the Q Tree.
May God bless all of us, including SteveInCO, through Christ Jesus, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

churchmouse

To clarify: the sentences in italics are mine, not those of other posters here.

Gil

Ayup. Steveinco will be missed by me for the 2nd time around. Atheist or Christian, he has a place saved on this branch. Without Q, we still have MAGA which wont end until we Keep America Great. Hes always welcome if I have a say. As my kiddo says, “Buenos Nachos” until next time…

Alison

Happy trails … is my phrase of choice for a parting like this. It is my wish that each of us, including Steve, finds places in person and online where we feel a fit. In a rapidly changing environment, that is easier said than done. Best wishes, Steve.

TheseTruths

To Steve:
You were someone whose comments I looked forward to, and I don’t mean just the counting or funny ones. I usually agreed with what you said. I didn’t witness the situations you describe about terminology, etc., but can see why they might give you pause.
As for Christianity, we are an imperfect bunch who unfortunately don’t always live our faith. Ideally, one should be able to judge a religion by its adherents, and most of us try to live as we ought, but we also fail every day. Forgiveness is also part of the faith. We are only human, and we have blind spots.
I have missed your presence and comments here. I hope you will visit again sometime, though I respect your decision and acknowledge your freedom to make it.

GA/FL

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!!

Sylvia Avery

“As for Christianity, we are an imperfect bunch who unfortunately don’t always live our faith.”
Oh, so true. I am keenly aware of my imperfect self who tries and fails daily in my walk. I am ashamed that I do not lead by better example. And still I know that I am loved and so grateful for that.

Sylvia Avery

Steve, if you should read this….
I have appreciated your unique perspective and presence here. I miss you now and will miss you as time goes forward.
I think it was really kind of you to let us know what was up rather than just disappearing from our lives and leaving us hanging.
I hope you drop in some times.
I will always hope for the best for you.
With love,
Sylvia

GA/FL

Miss Sylvia – With all my family stuff going on, I missed Steve’s goodbye post – could you please give me a link?

Sylvia Avery

Sorry GA/FL I just saw your post.
I am grieving at losing Steve from our community. Perhaps contrary to his preference, he has been laid on my heart as one to pray for and so I shall.

GA/FL

Never mind – I found it and will respond (as a former atheist/agnostic) after I have given it some time, thought and prayer.

churchmouse

Fare well, SteveInCO.
If you’re reading this thread, we were sorry to read your post.
I know a LOT of atheists and agnostics, online and offline. I never cared about your religious orientation, if, indeed, I even knew what it was.
I looked forward to your comments on coins and science — as well as your sharp wit. I learned something from everything you wrote here, and you often left me with a smile.
You will be sorely missed here.
I hope one day you decide to return.
In the meantime, MAGA!

sobriquet3

Dear Steve
As an INJF I honor your “door slam”. I respect your logic and realize your decision was not emotional.

Aubergine

INTJ female here. I, too, understand Steve. I wish him all the best.
I am one of those who doesn’t care what other people’s religious or non-religious affiliation is.
If you are reading here now Steve, I will miss your commentary. You are obviously a smart guy; I was one of those “annoying kids,” too! I’ve been on the outside looking in a lot.
I hope you will drop by, at least on the days when Q drops some new stuff. Those comment days should be more in line with your thinking. But if you don’t, fare well, friend. I’ll miss you.

churchmouse

IN/STJ here (the N and S depend on the day I’m taking the test).

Smiling at you Churchmouse.

Apparently even her minders, her Chief of Staff, can’t rein her in…

michaelh

I have a VERY hard time thinking that even the Dems are really this stupid and self-sabotaging.

Gil

It was every comment about the green (no way)deal is that is was actually a total red deal plus a heavy layer of stupid.

Plain Jane

“plus a heavy layer of stupid” – Perfectly put plus LOL.

rayzorbak

Why would they let her commit political suicide……
And then jump right in behind her?

judyw

WM, whether or not you realize it, the words you use give other people permission to use them, too. It’s not as if they weren’t in the thought processes because likely they were for many but seeing them actually used opens up lots of possibilities for use in actual conversations where one can say “I read this or that” and it begins more openness if that makes any sense.
Personally, i have learned so much from you and appreciate you sharing what you know to be true and what you think about it.❤❤❤

Gil

Shes a monkey with a wrench for sure in that sense.
I wouldnt be surprised if the dimms flip her to control her or she has a breakdown and quits. We will see once she has actual work to do.

Plain Jane

She’s there to make Nan look sane and logical.

judyw

Oh, Jane that’s a brilliant observation!🤣

Who is behind AOC? Why does everybody think she came from obscurity? Watch this first:

I will elaborate further at another time about how all this is from Soros and her Chief of Staff, who is the person that made Bernie popular in 2016 and moved on to create AOC. The Green Deal actually came from this guy who tried it with Bernie in 2016, but it never caught on because of such a disruptor that PDT was during the time. There are also connections from him to the whole Covington Catholic Boys debacle. The Chief of Staff’s name is Saikat Chakabari and he has kept a low profile and gone unnoticed, but AOC is his puppet!

oncefired

A bit more background, it all ties together!

From the image:
Hip Hop Caucus @HipHopCaucus
“Indigenous Nations have been hollering about the Grean New Deal for thousands of years, and we feel an energy coming alive” – @ ChaseIronEyes

An “energy coming alive” -> Spiritism.
So let’s put this together. “Green” and “energy” aren’t about conservation and electro-mechanical power – its a metaphysical religious outlook of nature worship and spiritist nature energy. Aka, paganism.
Not just any old paganism, an anti-Christian, anti-Western, anti-technology, anti-human paganism that subordinates man strictly below the created order, romanticizing the primitive human supposed pristine relationship with nature.
Nevermind the facts, that native American per-Columbian cultures like the Mississippian culture died out long before Europe came to America, precisely because they exhausted their environment, precisely because the lacked the technological capacity to adapt and produce abundance in the face of scarcity.

Cuppa Covfefe

And that’s the same thing that’s behind the “Green” movement in Europe, and was behind Hitler and his really ODD package of beliefs that included Satanism, old Norse/European legends, etc., etc. Oh, and the Greens, up until very recently, supported pedophilia and a whole catalog of perversions.
Sometimes, though, I have to wonder if their overt craziness is calculated; part of a cognitive dissonace preparation for accepting a Hegelian third way.
Though they’ve moved the Overton window so far to the left it’s become a door – into a huge, swampy, sewer…
There’s a fellow who’s studied failed cultures and societies going back around 7000 yeras or so. All of them shared the same features, and all of them followed the same path into ruin. Ironically this was mentioned on a climate blog, in a very different context (obviously) but the similarity of the disintegrations still holds true. I’m sorry I don’t have the link to hand…

TakeBackOurRepublic

Apparently he’s a Indian Nation hip hop artist activist…..who is followed on twitter by AOC’s handler (Chief of Staff Chakrabarti). In case you missed the 8 minute vid yesterday posted by Mahgdalen Rose.

He looks like the guy who was also beating a drum beside Nathan Phillips. You can catch a glimpse of him at 2m 57s or so of this tape. Didn’t watch the whole thing this time but I believe he is in the tape at least once more.
Don’t know if it IS him, but there is a resemblance.

Tonawanda

Sorry. I am totally embarrassed. That was the picture first posted! So of course it is him. I did not look carefully enough!

scott467

“Who is behind AOC? Why does everybody think she came from obscurity?”
________________
I haven’t read your links yet, but I agree.
Whether she is really as stupid as she seems or whether she is playing her designated part, we’re definitely being played.
The question is, is it by the good guys (e.g., is AOC part of a scheme to destroy the devilrat party?), or something else entirely.
I don’t follow Cortez’s tweets, but I see many references to the effect that she is a ‘genius’ with her Twitter comments.
That may just be the MSM public relations doing the heavy lifting to promote her, but if her Twitter capability is actually competent or better, there is no way to reconcile that with her real life Inspector Clouseau persona.
Which is why I strongly suspect that Cortez isn’t running her own Twitter account in the first place, i.e., she has nothing to do with it. It is outsourced to some political consultant or team.
And I strongly suspect that is true for most if not ALL of the political-class.
Including DJT, at least to some extent. Remember a year or so ago, when something was tweeted on POTUS’ Twitter account that caused controversy (what doesn’t?), and some assistant claimed responsibility?
Maybe he was taking a bullet for the president, or maybe he wasn’t, maybe the account is being run by a team.
Maybe ALL of the politicians have professional consultants operating their Twitter accounts.
It’s certainly not far-fetched, considering:
A) there is nothing the political-class won’t do to deceive us — literally nothing.
B) they could all easily afford a team to run their Twitter accounts
C) it would help prevent a lot of the political-class from looking stupid
D) it would lighten their ‘work load’ (such as it is) to have someone else do it and make them look good in the process
Imagine if Pelosi, Schumer, Cortez, etc., and all of their GOPe counterparts, have outsourced their Twitter accounts to professional teams. It seems perfectly natural and in keeping with every other phony thing about these people.
But it should be easy figure out if this is what’s happening.
Every Tweet has a time-stamp.
All anyone would have to do is follow some of these people around for a few days, and match up the time-stamps with the (supposed) ‘authors’.
Granted, a lot of any given day the public doesn’t have access to these public officials, so who knows what they’re doing behind closed doors, using Twitter or anything else.
Any team ‘running’ a politician’s Twitter account would have to be very careful to never ‘Tweet’ when their ‘boss’ is doing something else publicly (e.g., giving a speech, doing an interview on TV, etc.), otherwise the time-stamp would prove that it was impossible for the politician to have sent the Tweet.
But the sheer volume of Tweets means, and human error (and laziness) means it wouldn’t be long before someone slipped up (or many someones slip up, and frequently) and the whole ‘professional political consultants representing themselves as the real Politician’ Twitter scam would be exposed.

The Bible talks about being ‘drunk on sin’ – it looks like the Dems are drunk on the blood of the unborn innocent infants they are so determined to slaughter.
Abortion is all about the R2Scrw any time/any way without consequence and any consequences (pregnancy, STDs, etc.) paid for at the taxpayer’s expense.

TakeBackOurRepublic

I think what we’re seeing is that the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) have deeply fractured the Democrats into two distinct parties. Project Veritas undercover videos in September 2018 showed how deeply embedded DSA members are in all government positions. Yesterday we learned about a recruiting arm called Brand New Congress whose directive is to find and promote socialist mouthpieces like AOC. These groups all tie together, probably through Media Matters and Share Blue. This has Soros if you can’t beat ’em infiltrate them fingerprints all over it.

plateaufortrump

AOC is being promoted to make Hillary look sane and the only viable candidate for 2020.

michaelh

That’s a strong possibility I had not considered!
Will it backfire though – at the moment it doesn’t seem to be giving HRC credit, and Trump appears to be the adult in the room… we shall see!

Marica

lady P! EVITA! is exactly right!! “Don’t Cry for me Argentina”!…WOW great analogy!!

michaelh

That’s too bad. AOC’s Green New Deal was so utterly BIZARRE and RIDICULOUS that it makes a SEA TO SEA BORDER WALL seem humble and austere by comparison!

TheseTruths

I didn’t understand exactly what happened and went to this Daily Caller article: https://www.dailycaller.com/2019/02/07/ocasio-cortez-green-new-deal-release/
It explains that the FAQ section of the website had representations that weren’t in the actual bill. That is a colossal mistake on someone’s part. I’m still not clear whether AOC didn’t know what was in the legislation and only talked about what she thought was in it. It’s a disaster on many levels — the bill itself, the publicity about cow flatulence, the website errors, AOC’s press conference where she said people had ocean water seeping into their living rooms, etc.
Due to recent scandals and mistakes (blackface, American Indian claims, the Green New Deal, etc.), the Left is opening itself to ridicule, an Alinsky tactic that they use against us all the time. We haven’t had so many opportunities to use it as a weapon in ages. (And I do mean “weapon,” as in war, because this is a war. In everyday life I would eschew ridicule.) All people are talking about now is Dem hypocrisy about blackface, Pocahantas’s duplicity, and cow flatulence. Many on the Left are losing their credibility.
The schemes of the enemies of America are backfiring and falling upon their own heads.

A key part of the Dim’s strategery is to convince people that up is down, black is white, abortion is not murder, closed borders is “raciss”, men are women, etc … they are trying to totally discombobulate as many people as possible.
When the truth / reality stands opposed to your agenda, then your only recourse is attempt to change perception of truth / reality. This stands behind their dismantling of education first of all, and everything else they do …

singingsoul

What if this is a psycho stunt and then they come back to a new reality for us not quite as extreme but still further left then when they began..?

Occluded Cortex brings a couple of songs to mind:
(from “Paint Your Wageon) (probably green, like Löwenzahn’s):
I talk to the trees
But they don’t listen to me
I talk to the stars
But they never hear me
The breeze hasn’t time
To stop and hear what I say
I talk to them all in vain
(and, from Hotel California, where AOC would definitely fit):
Mirrors on the ceiling
The pink champagne on ice
And she said “We are all just prisoners here, of our own device”…

After today’s AOC debacle with her Green New Deal and all the other things she has done, I’ve been more and more thinking that something just doesn’t smell right with her. She is a little bit too dumb and too crazy for belief. So I was interested to see that FBI Anon had made a few posts about her on 4Chan. See what you think about these posts. They are believable to me and add a whole new wrinkle to her story:
“Cortez (AOC) is a CIA asset that was placed in the Democrat Party to help destroy it. Her election was a fraud and her actions now are predicated on her instructions to split the party into Socialist and Democrat parts. Many of the Democrats will split off to the Republican Party and by 2020 the Democrat Party will be totally Socialist. She will leave office after one term and will retire to Europe where she will have access to a 56 million dollar Swiss Bank Account.”
“Do you really think a punk bartender would have been elected without a whole operation in place starting with a world class IS operation that flipped ballots in New York to ensure her victory?”
“Have you considered the narratives that she has been putting out in the political discussions? Those narratives were developed by deep state operatives at Langley for their potent impact on the body politic. Do you think the bartender thought this up between playing video games?”
“She was the most important (asset) the CIA has developed since WW2. Hence her price tag. Well worth it…it is a combination of the framing and the framer. Wait and watch how this develops. It is the message and the messenger.”
“AOC was developed long before Trump. The Deep State has many such assets, they trigger them when needed. Need is based on their perception as to where the country is going. What has changed is the Democrats have gone totally insane and as I mentioned earlier they are totally unreliable…Trump is not in the loop on this. No need.”

Linda

Incidentally, he mentioned that the whole mess going on in Virginia was also triggered by the same people who activated AOC.

Marica

Linda!! Judas Goats All over the place!!! Seems right!

Sadie Slays

“She was the most important (asset) the CIA has developed since WW2″
More important than Hussein? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL….
Oh, I absolutely believe she’s playing a part for someone else’s agenda. But I’m not buying this particular explanation.

Linda

It’s almost like someone is engineering all this. The democrats have just gotten too batshit crazy way too quickly for it not to be on purpose. It’s not just AOC and the Virginia mess and the infanticide, it’s Pelosi blatantly partying and trying to go on an expensive junket during the shutdown and not even trying to negotiate. It’s Elizabeth Warren and her DNA test. And so many other ridiculous things. Someone is telling them to do those things, and being in a bubble, they have no idea how it looks to the rest of us.

Molly Pitcher

I’m not with the she’s so dumb crowd. She isn’t. She’s focused and can think on her feet. It doesn’t always jive or make perfect sense but she never flounders like a rookie. She’s been trained or coached well.
Her Green Deal..like all these other bills..they don’t write them, maybe don’t actually read them very well.
No way Harris , Warren or any of the others would endorse if they actually read it…they just can’t be that far gone.

singingsoul

Molly I agree.

Molly Pitcher

Another thing that seems to go along with it all being orchestrated is Pelosi’s nonchalant take on these newbies completely dominating the public persona of the D party.
If they were gone rogue Pelosi would be running her bumbling stumbling pressers to show who’s running the show.

holley100

AOC presenting the New Green Deal with all those very seasoned male politicians standing behind her in support. Optics. She and Ed Markey teaming up? Has to be engineered.

Cuppa Covfefe

The trouble with letters-to-the-editor, though, is the editor still (usually) selects which ones get printed, generally put through the jaundiced filter of the liberal press…
I look forward to the gab comment tool. I also expect that there will be a huge hue and cry against it…sigh.. At least over here, many of the comments sections are still open, and, thank God, still decidedly conservative and skeptical.
Still, we need to give the left neither peace nor quarter. Interesting that those who are calling “BS” the loudest (cf Eastern Europe) are those who’ve had the misfortune of enduring the jackboot left…

Roberta

Thank you for this. Indeed, she hasn’t passed the spidey sense/smell test with me, either. Dead/crazy eyes, too. Others have mentioned the eyes of these newly “elected” [inserted?] representatives [of whom or what?].

Not just the “newly elected”……
Adam Schitt-fer-Brains has those Bug eyes too.
At times…. Hitlery does too.

Absolutely! I was just focusing on the newly activated.

The Green Deal is a cr4p deal.
TRUMP’S Make America Great Again and Keep American Great is the REAL DEAL!!!

So is the New Green Deal their counter to MAGA? If so it’s lame. Makes me think of Kermit the Frog and it’s not easy being green.

rayzorbak

So, are you saying AOC is “Deep State” (Dem, GOPe, etyc)……
Or “Deep State” (.mil, Q, etc)?
Are there Good and Bad “Deep States”?

Kalbo

Interesting perspective. While I trust the CIA as much as I do the DOJ, FBI (borderline zero, zip, nada)…not drinking CIA Kool-Aid is promoting or managing AOC.
Agree, AOC is a creation of some UnAmerican organization. Would suggest Soros and his ilk are in play. What little I know of DSA, is a fit.
I’m not smart enough to know how to figure it all out.
The world is full of useful educated idiots. AOC is worse than an “educated” idiot. AOC is some powerful UnAmerican organization’s useful idiot. AOC is so full of her own grandiose self, AOC has no clue her puppeteers are manipulating her. Nor, nary a clue how incoherent and illogical her thoughts are.
However, I am grateful for AOC’s naive willingness to promote the socialist D-Rat party for the lunatics they are. Hell bent on destroying America. Ideally, and I do believe Americans are waking up. And will stay awake and support President Trump.
In addition to AOC’s ignorant Green Plan (Agenda 21), blindly signed onto by so many D-Rats wannabe Presidents, it has been an amazingly great week…
– Fantastic SOTU.
– American economy rolls on…
– Infanticide exposed to daylight through the stupidity of D-Rat Governors in NY and VA.
– VA Tran ignorant legislation and testimony clearly supporting murdering a near full term fetus (my word, murdering a human).
– VA Governor and AG black face fiasco.
– VA LT Governor exposed (wrong word) behavior with Dr Tyson. Perhaps death of BS #MeToo. BS as it was applied selectively…politically.
– Senate Intelligence Chair (Burr?) finally admitting no collusion between Russia and President Trump / his Team.
– Little Adam Schitt pic with Fusion. Hope this blossoms into a disaster for D-Rats.
– Nitwit Nancy and her minions are apparently caving on funding the wall. That evil deceitful wench bares close watching.
G R E A T to be on the Trump Train!!!

Sadie Slays

From one Deep State underling to another:
“We need to slide the blackface, abortion, and rape scandals out of the news, pronto! This is very bad!”
“But xer! We’re saving our big false flag for the upcoming Supreme Court battle! What do we have left?”
“Let AOC troll them all day, then tell Bezos to go fix his blackmail Bproblem. That should buy us some time to figure out who else wore blackface in the ’80s.”

Molly Pitcher

hah! That seems about right Sadie and AOC and the other one , Omar…they ARE in every tv screen and tweet all freakin day long. They never shut up and the pundits won’t stop talking about them.

Sadie Slays

It’s like they’re trying to distill Donald Trump into a formula into and apply it to the Democrats.
1) Make outrageous statement.
2) Media spends all day talking about outrageous statement.
3) Repeat the process every day.
4) Success?
It’s obvious that she’s there to provoke a reaction–any reaction. Best way to counter it is to stop reacting, stop giving her attention, and point out the programming.

Dismiss her cautiously, like you would a rattlesnake …

scott467 I do not pay attention to them. Cortez seems immature and brainwashed. She is a parrot repeating talking points.
Her personality seems convincing two things
1) she is a stupid tool for someone
2) she plays her part for a psychological reason.
Now I have to figure out what it is?
One only can play only so long until the the truth comes out.
She seems like a zealot for the cause. I have seen zealots before they are so pumped up there is no stopping them. What is pumping her up?

churchmouse

Just a possibility: $$$ ?
Perhaps, as someone suggested, a front for a more reasonable Dem to face off PDJT when the time comes?
Imagine the possible scenario.
AOC, possibly, sits happy.
Designated DNC challenger proceeds against the Republican incumbent, our VSG, seeking re-election.

Sadie Slays

Maybe they’re trying to push the Overton Window as far Left as possible?
Maybe it’s simply to counter President Trump’s method of disrupting the media? We know from Q that his Twitter account is used to disrupt the 4 am talking points. Maybe their way of countering is to give the media time instead to Ocasio-Cortez? The DNC probably doesn’t care too much about the public opinion hit because they’ll just rig what needs to be rigged next election.

Now they are making fools of themselves.

Maybe Steve can go work for AOC.
OK just kidding but seriously, he needs to start being honest with himself. The real reason he had to go was all the praying and scripture quoting on this site. It’s like a hot pan – you can get burned if you get too close.
Had he looked for reasons to stay here he could have easily found them. Instead, he looked for a reason to leave. My pastor (RIP) told me many times that a person eventually gets what he looks for but that it might not be good for him.
As was said upthread, he’s welcome back but I don’t expect that is likely to happen. He needs to be right about his “no God” belief system and he can’t be right about it here.

churchmouse

I’m wondering how he could have been such a CTH devotee, considering that’s an equally Christian site.
In thinking about his post, one of the things that sticks in my mind was his need to emphasise his own intelligence. That was one of the first things he wrote about in that post. I wondered whether he thought — somewhat — that we weren’t worth his time. Again, I’m not sure how he could think that way about us and not CTH.
Oh, well.
I still hope he comes back (even though he probably won’t).
Do you or does anyone know what the link to his own blog is?

I read all the time, rarely post. I agree with you church mouse, way too much me, me, me. And no replies allowed feels like “God doesn’t exist, I’m all I need, and now I’m going to take my ball and go home.” And push you folks around the chessboard one more time watching you scramble to reply. Sorry if I appear cold.

pgroup

You don’t appear cold – you appear completely rational.
Keep in mind that prayer is a form of acknowledgement that God is superior to us. Ol’ Stevie cannot handle that – he must be at the top of his personal spiritual chain. Hence, our prayers (memorialized here) burn him so he must go away, as I posted at the top of this sub-thread. .

gingersmom2009

Thanks, pgroup. 😄

churchmouse

I agree, gingersmom.
It was surprisingly more about him than ideas, science or logic/reason (the last combo being the usual last refuge of atheists, which St Paul exposed in the Book of Acts when debating philosophers).
That said, he did answer a longstanding (nearly lifelong) question of mine about what a ‘mil’ was worth versus a penny.

Democrats In White Forget That Phyllis Schlafly Was Right
https://wqth.wordpress.com/2019/02/07/democrats-in-white-forget-that-phyllis-schlafly-was-right/
From the SOTU, the leftist women were proudly wearing their ERA pins. Surprise surprise, they haven’t give up on the ERA!
I’m reposting this here because I think this is important for the treepers here to be informed. Phyllis Schlafly knew how to turn her concerns into ACTION.
Because outrage is NOT a Strategy!
We have a LOT to learn.
How Phyllis Schlafly profoundly changed America
She created the modern pro-family movement and was its greatest activist
Her book changed the Republican party
What most pro-family conservatives today probably don’t know
September 9 2016comment image

Phyllis Schlafly, who passed away at age 92 this week [Sep 1996], actually created the pro-family movement. She was the greatest and most successful pro-family activist in its history. That is not hyperbole; it is fact. Everyone else is miles behind. …
Unfortunately, most pro-family conservatives under a certain age really don’t know that much about her, or appreciate the enormity of her contributions, which continued up until her death. In our opinion, the numerous obituaries in the conservative and mainstream media about her haven’t done her justice.
A revolution within the GOP
She broke into national prominence in 1964 by publishing a book. Titled “A Choice, Not an Echo” It brilliantly described how for decades the GOP establishment and donor class had been selling out the principles held by average Republican voters and controlling the political process. It’s chilling to realize how similar it was to the situation that has fueled the rise of Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016. She saw the problem clearly back in the 60s.
At first she felt no publisher would take the book, so she sold it out of her garage. It really caught on, eventually selling over 3 million copies. It changed the history of the Republican Party.comment image
“A Choice Not an Echo” is credited by many with igniting much of the Republican voter base and propelling Barry Goldwater’s nomination for president in 1964 over the will of the party establishment, and opening the door for Ronald Reagan’s run. Her book was that powerful.

This article is quite long and worth the read – but the part that struck me:

In 1972 Phyllis began her fight to stop the ERA. She was not only an incredibly articulate writer, speaker, and political thinker, but she was also an unbelievable organizer. She brought together and mobilized a very formidable army of thousands of women, mostly housewives, from across the country. This was before the Internet or even fax machines existed! And she taught them how to go to their state legislatures and lobby strategically and effectively despite the opposing them. Legislators had never seen anything like it.

You see that? Unbelieveable organizer. Not some fly by night community organizer either.

She also created hard-hitting pamphlets, wrote countless newspaper columns, gave speeches across the country, and appeared on numerous television interview shows — usually against a stacked deck, but still coming out on top.
Over the next eight years, five more states ratified ERA. But also during that time five other states – under pressure from Phyllis and her forces – rescinded their ratifications.

DO YOU SEE IT? BOOM!!!
They RESCINDED their ratifications!
Can that strategy work today?
YES IT CAN!!!

The larger story of this impossible victory is really fascinating for activists today. In 2009 Phyllis made this exciting video discussing it in detail. (It’s 43 minutes long, but worth watching.)

ERA Ratification Status:comment image
Red: Ratified
Orange: RESCINDED
Green: Ratified in one house of legislature
Blue: Not Ratified
States that have not ratified the amendment:

Alabama
Arizona
Arkansas
Florida
Georgia
Louisiana
Mississippi
Missouri
North Carolina
Oklahoma
South Carolina
Utah
Virginia

Despite a vigorous effort by women’s rights advocates, a push to pass the ERA in Virginia died in the state legislature in February [2018]. Similar efforts also failed [in 2018] in Arizona and Florida.

Per: https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/31/us/equal-rights-amendment-illinois-states-trnd/index.html
Consider the political crisis in Virginia. Could a vote in Virginia be revived…???

michaelh

Yes – that’s what triggered DP’s post too!

michaelh

Exactly. It’s not about whether or not they are following the spirit of the process. It’s about what can they make stick and what can they get the courts to agree to.
Multiple states have RESCINDED their passage of the ERA. The left has to argue in court that a state cannot rescind. That will be hard but they’ve pulled rabbits out of their hat before.
I also pointed out that there is precedent for repealing an amendment.

michaelh
para59r

This is your second chance to watch this. Come back to it if you can find the time. Promises you will get sucked into it. Her speech here is quite aspiring and runs through the whole anti ERA movement that she led as the under dog and still managed to win the fight.
That said we know the left took the fight in a different direction with different tactics (mostly through courts and judges) and have gained ground but the fight is not over and the same divide remains so then there’s nothing to say they won’t come back with this way once again to try to seal this.

Gil

A few notable deaths the past couple days. That rabbi thst did those feed the Jews in Russia commercials died. Also Bob Madsu the real estate guy on fox. Now John Dingle is dead. February is always a big month.

Well, that’s disappointing. Just as I’m able to start commenting a bit more again, Steve is gone …
I will miss him – always prepared to call it as he sees it. A great sceptic who would test ideas rigorously – just what any community needs to keep itself grounded / tethered.

Short, precise, rigorous actually, spare, but of sound substance, worthy of great intellects. Thank you for your comment/tribute to one whom many of us hope is listening.

TY Roberta. From your thoughts regarding Steve below, it would appear that we are kindred spirits.

Roberta

I have been in what a certain generation used to the “head space” or of the mindset to think I had to convert everyone. I still respond too much in that vein, whether it be faith or politics. Unless I face unabashed evil, I find it less draining to try to love people and let God take care of the conversion.

TY Tona, good to be in position to contribute again – I’ve missed exchanging ideas with this great bunch of diverse thinkers!

Steve, I wanted to leave a reply to your Fare Well but discovered that was not an option. So let me just say this here, for now – with the hope that you are still drawn to reading some of these comments.
First, I very much appreciate that you took the time to post a Fare Well to let us know you were leaving and why. Like it or not, there is an attachment that developes with each other on a blog like this – esp one of this size right now. Your loss was impactful to all of us, and that message was sent out to you loud and clear by several comments here. It helps to know that you cared enough to not leave us hanging.
As to the content of your Fare Well post, I would like to make a more lengthy response to that, but it’s pretty darned late, and typing on this tablet is too much of a challenge. Perhaps I can take that on in the morning.
Again, thank you.

scott467

This is priceless.
This is what happens in a society that literally worships at the altar of political correctness and the altar of tort lawyers:
………………………..
“Chapel Hill condemned the photos on Wednesday. Vice Chancellor for Communications Joel Curran said in a statement: ‘The photos found in the 1979 student yearbook are abhorrent.”
………………………..
They condemned the photos (as if the photos had done anything wrong…), but not their own university who consciously put the photos into a Chapel Hill yearbook and published it.
……………………..
“We fully and wholly condemn both the photos and the racist behavior they depict.”
……………………..
Fully AND wholly? I guess that must mean they’re serious. They haven’t condemned HUMAN BABY SACRIFICE (infanticide) at all — that would be too controversial — but 40 year old photographs are a safe target for these hypocrites to bravely ‘condemn’.
The photos can’t sue Chapel Hill, and neither can the ‘behavior’, so they can safely be ‘condemned’ without fear. Brave, brave, brave statement by the Chapel Hill fat cats and their law dogs.
Notice who they DIDN’T condemn?
They didn’t condemn the University that was actually responsible for creating and perpetuating an environment where these activities were so common and widespread that they appeared in Chapel Hill University yearbooks of the time without raising the slightest concern or objection.
…………………
“That kind of behavior has no place on our campus now or then.”
…………………
Clearly that statement is revisionist and factually inaccurate.
Clearly and without credible dispute, that kind of behavior had a place on Chapel Hill campus then. It’s not like they were hiding it back then, it was published in the Chapel Hill University YEARBOOK, lol!

I was so disappointed that there was no way to reply to Steve’s piece. So thank you, Wolf, for providing somewhat of a venue for response.
As expanded in “Fare Well,” I was one of those who very much appreciated what Steve has described as “deficits” in the views of many of those on this tree. Especially his words on words.
If you are listening/reading, Steve, please reconsider. Your voice is needed. Your balance is needed. Your precision is needed. And shame on those who made you feel you did not belong. Rough edges may take a long time to smoothen.
I hope he is reading this evening and tomorrow and beyond. Much of what Steve wrote tonight resonates profoundly with me…and I am a Catholic and I am a believer and I am steeped in liberal arts philosophy, science, epistemology, language, literature, and Catholic education …none at his deep level, but I am familiar with the languages. And I don’t feel comfortable or belonging and have never been a joiner…even amongst what are supposed to be my people.
I will share this (HT The St Thomas Aquinas Book Club) with you all…perhaps you might fill in your own word for the last, for by no means do I believe these exclusive to one identity:
When I protest abortion, people say I am a Republican;
When I protest unjust wars, people say I am a Democrat;
When I say there should be limited, local government, people say I am an anarchist;
When I say we should help the poor, people say I am a Socialist.
I am none of these.
I am a Catholic.

The word catholic derives from the Greek language and means universal….
We are communicating ‘online’ … on the worldwide web …
The Hopi speak of Spider Woman/grandmother who conscientiously weaving her webs, thought the world itself into existence.
Yes, words do have meaning… logically AND psychilly …
And words EVOLVE… they change.
The word awful once meant “full of awe” …
From its use in reference to God the word came to mean “reverential or respectful fear.” … Originally, awful and awesome were synonymous, but by the early 19th century, awful absorbed the negative aspects of the emotion and the word was used to mean frightful or exceedingly bad.
Some of us know the meaning of the word ‘etymology’… and some of us understand also the word ‘epistemology’ …
Words are virtually labels. Some synonyms: term, name, expression, designation, locution; turn of phrase, idiom. Words are used to facilitate communication…
for the hearing… for others, signing is used…
And sometimes, words are not even necessary…
Love does not require words… it is unconditional.
Love, regard, respect… can withstand disagreement, which more often than not is a failure to ‘hear’ the other
person… to focus more on the spoken word, rather than what is being communicated.

scott467

Roberta: “I am a Catholic.”
phoenixRising: “The word catholic derives from the Greek language and means universal….”
______________________
Indeed, and I never understand this.
Even and especially when the subject under consideration is the accuracy and meaning of words.
Was ‘Catholic’ (‘universal’) crucified for us? Were we baptized in the name of ‘Universal’ (‘Catholic’)?
It is only a variation on an ancient question.
………………………..
“Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?” (1 Corinthians 1:13)
……………………….
I am a Christian, flawed as I clearly am.
It is Jesus Christ Who was crucified for me, not ‘Catholic’. I was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, not in the name of ‘Universal’.
In the Word of God, are the disciples and believers in Christ called ‘Catholics’, or Christians?
…………………………………..
“And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” (Acts 11:26, KJV, boldface emphasis mine, cf. Acts 26:28, 1 Peter 4:16)
…………………………………..
If Jesus Christ was crucified for me, if I was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, if it is Jesus Christ who saved me, and if the inspired Word of God (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16) plainly says that the disciples of Christ are called Christians — then how can I self-identify as anything other than a Christian?
And how can anyone else who confesses Christ is Lord and Savior?
Please understand that I am not attacking anyone’s faith, I am pleading for logic and reason, that there could be unity in the body (i.e., the church) of Christ, that our faith might be true and acceptable to God.
.
“And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.” (Col 1:18, boldface emphasis mine)
.
“For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.” (Ephesians 5:23)
.
“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. [13] For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” (1 Cor 12:12-13)
.
“Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” (1 Cor 1:10)
.
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. [24] God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23-24)
.
“Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:” (Ephesians 4:13)
.
“Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; [5] One Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Ephesians 4:3-6)

My reply to phoenix also applies to your comment. 🙂

Roberta

Just a note, that the pillars of what some call the historic churches (Orthodox & Catholic [both Eastern – Byzantine- and Western – Roman rites] are Holy Tradition and Holy Scripture. The Orthodox are especially eloquent on the relationship between these pillars. St John Paul II referred to the Roman and Eastern rites as the two lungs of the church. I do not present these facts as a persuasive argument. I have friends who desperately want to become Roman Catholics…but have not yet gained an acceptance of Holy Tradition.
Thomas Howard, raised in a prominent Evangelical family (brother of Elizabeth Elliot), wrote that in the end, when asked why he chose the Canterbury (and eventually the Roman) rather than the Constantinople Road, that it was quite simply that he was a western Christian.
Howard is always a joy to read, whether or not you are convinced by his arguments. In Evangelical Is Not Enough he presents his journey to Canterbury. He wrote later of what he considers the completion of that journey, in My Journey to Rome
Highly recommended. A great scholar and writer in the Christian Tradition, standing, I believe, with Lewis, Chesterton, Newman, Knox, St. Augustine, Eliot, Charles Williams, Tolkien…..

I really like those that back up their beliefs with “Scripture”.
There is nothing “wrong” with agreeing to disagree.
I have Deep issues with those that think: “My way or the Highway”
NO PERSON has ALL of the answers and should be open to correction.
Just my 2 cents (can’t post the coins) 🙂

Roberta

Very well “said.” Thank you.

One should not grovel before anybody, let alone an egomaniac. Humans should stand upright, not on their knees (God commanded various people to stand and face Him in the Old Covenant).
Steve will enjoy his atheist views until a life circumstance happens to him that his atheism cannot help. And I’m not deprived by his absence – I’m relieved we don’t have to have proxy wars allegedly of words but actually of beliefs.

Roberta

In your first sentence, who is groveling, and before whom, please?

bflyjesusgrl

I just can’t get on board with a Big Bang theory. There is just too much intelligent design in this universe, on this planet, in nature, and especially the human body that could not possibly be the result of a chaotic explosion. The more I read the Bible and the more discoveries that are being made, both archaeological, and the body/mind/brain “Word” connection, the more truth bears out. All these things just supply more evidence that makes my faith stronger. Couple that with all the prophecies about Israel and Jesus that have been fulfilled, nothing else makes sense to me. Then add answered prayer, wisdom, discernment, and guidance received when asked for…the Spirit connection is undeniable. I have a deep revelation of The Power of The Word and Confession. God “spoke” the world into existence. Jesus gave us the authority to speak, declare, confess, what will be, either positive or negative. With our words, we either put the Angels or the demons to flight to carry out our instructions.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” ‭‭John‬ ‭1:1-5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” ‭‭John‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
I pray that a dependable, dedicated, baptized Believer crosses Mr. Steve’s path, and that his heart is softened to hear, feel, and accept the loving tug of the Holy Spirit. God is not willing that one should perish. God Bless Mr. Steve. In the meantime, I say we need MOAR Revival!! I am thankful and grateful for this treehouse. 🦋🦋🦋

“a Big Bang theory”
It’s only how physicists try to describe the beginning of the *physical* universe. I recall seeing a YT video from a guy from CERN, or some-such vaunted institution, titled with click-bait (“Einstein wrong?”), and it ended with this arrogant tool saying “Remember – physics is everything!”
Physics ISN’T everything … except to physicists!
And, their physics is inadequate to the task of explaining the Big Bang and black holes (they call them “singularities”, meaning their physics breaks down). Also, physicists haven’t found the origin of life, haven’t figured out “space” (empty – or full?), and they haven’t found their “holy grail”, the Theory-of-Everything.
What I’ve found is that the more one “knows”, the more one ought to be aware of how much one *doesn’t* know. Many scientists fail in this regard, though there are some who get it.
For millennia, we humans have believed in a higher power. It’s pretty simple, actually: I know that *I* didn’t create the universe, and yet here it is and here we are. It’s a very short leap (of faith) to realize that the universe was created, and created BY God.
As smart as Stephen Hawking was, on his own ground, he was a MORAN (Anons’ spelling!) when it comes to theology. It takes as much belief (actually DISbelief) to be an atheist as it takes belief to be a theist. I think that far too many “atheists” misinterpret – willfully – what theism is, and what Christianity is all about.
I also hope that Steve finds peace, wherever it may be for him.

TatonkaWoman

I get a kick out of it every time I hear the term Big Bang Theory – especially when applied to anti-creation discussions.
I, for one, rather imagine that, when God said, “Let there be light!”, there was one heck of a “Big Bang” that resonated through the universe!!!

rayzorbak

Actually, God made the Heavens AND the Earth well before he said “Let there be light”..
Genesis 1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
Much discussion can be found in just these 3 verses that we may discuss at a later time.
(These discussions are jibberish to an “unbeliever”)…. so be it

Emeraldstar

“Genesis 1”
The first two sentences, as I remember them to be, are:
“In the beginning, there was nothing.”
“And God said, “Let there be light.””
I don’t remember which Bible I read this in – but it was from the library, and likely was the KJV iteration. It certainly seemed authoritative, and was quite a large tome …
Does my memory here serve?

rayzorbak

I quoted the verses
Genesis 1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

Dems press for PDJT’s tax returns — again:
https://dailycaller.com/2019/02/07/trump-tax-returns-ways-and-means/
‘House Democrats pushed legislation during a hearing Thursday that would require presidents and presidential candidates to release tax returns in order to get President Donald Trump’s tax returns.’

Pat Frederick

this is beyond the pale…there are privacy laws. How many Dems could survive an intimate look into their returns and campaign financing? they want transparency but refuse to provide an equal transparency into themselves…shocking

churchmouse

Fully agree.
And, as PDJT himself said, most people wouldn’t understand them, anyway: too complicated.
The Dems, including the media, are egregious.

TatonkaWoman

This is SO ridiculous!
1) Legislation requires the President’s signature. Good luck with that one!
2) To whom will it apply? If they apply it only to President Trump’s then they might as well stamp “witch Hunt” on every page. If they make it retroactive, what good does that do? Just makes a lot of work for people ( though it would be good to see some of those past returns!) And, if they apply it to the future, I imagine there will be some pretty ticked off Dims going forward.
At what point will Americans wake up to the fact that the only real agenda the Dim House has is to work on ways to destroy President Trump? Forget about working on anything for the good of this country.

churchmouse

Agree 120% — 10% more than usual!! 🙂
What about the Dems? I’d love to see Pelosi’s and Feinstein’s tax returns. They’re probably already ahead of the game, though.
I couldn’t agree more with your last paragraph. If PDJT said the sun was shining, the Dems would initiate legislation for cloudy days 365/365, then they would probably complain about climate change preventing almonds from growing in California and tomatoes elsewhere throughout the US. Conclusion there: there must be a LAW for sunny days.
It sounds illogical enough to be possible.

National Prayer Breakfast attendee appears on Tucker’s show:
https://dailycaller.com/2019/02/07/eric-metaxas-national-prayer-breakfast/
‘Christian author Eric Metaxas joined Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Thursday to discuss the significance of faith and prayer in American life.
‘The “Donald Drains the Swamp” author had attended the National Prayer Breakfast that morning, and began his answer to Tucker’s question about the “significance of prayer” by wondering “how anybody can survive” without it.

‘“There are many people—usually very competent, intelligent people—who are tempted to think they’re in charge,” he said. “You’re not in charge. You can be hit by a bus or a meteor. Things happen. If you have children, you get humbled by that. If you try to have a good marriage, it’s humbling. We need to live there. We need to understand that without God and His guidance, we can’t love people the way we’re supposed to love people. We cannot be the people we’re supposed to be. And I think that’s very hard for the most powerful among us.”’

You’re welcome, Marica!
The US, thanks to PDJT, is on the **cusp** of a ***moral*** turnaround.

Brandon Straka news —
1/ On Dems:

2/ On his upcoming award:

3/ On AOC:

I really do hope he runs against AOC. She will lose hugely, even with vote fraud.

GA/FL

I hope also he comes to wisdom and truth about the ‘gay’ lifestyle before he runs for office.

churchmouse

I’m willing to give the man some time on that one.

Ken

What do you care? Are you one of those nosy neighbor-types who gossip about what other people do within their homes? Do you think that your morals are perfect and should be forced upon others?
So, your opinion on the “gay lifestyle” is truth? Aren’t you a little precocious now…?
And, those who practice this “gay lifestyle” aren’t wise, eh?
Doesn’t the Bible say something about not judging others? Or, are you GA/FL exempt from this?
For the record, I’m not gay. But you religious types that flaunt your beliefs and righteousness as the “truth” need to be kicked once in a while. Is this why Steve left this site?

GA/FL

It’s not certainly not love to approve of what God, science, CDC, police, research statistics show are high risk, dangerous lifestyle and activities. You are throwing ugly aspersions and assumptions about me that I do not have.

Ken

I’ll ask again in simpler terms:
1. Do you believe that your views on homosexuality represent a “truth”?
2. Do you believe that homosexuals need to wisen up?

GA/FL

It’s a dangerous lifestyle. I have read CDC reports.
Not only are STDs individually elevated 40-150% among this population – the health issue has become syndemic (concurrent multiple STDs) Syndemic – definition – when several diseases occur at once and the multiple symptoms complicate, make the patient’s case many times worse, even prevent some kinds of treatment.
When there are other diseases present, treating one disease may exacerbate the symptoms or progression of the other disease/s.
https://daleoleary.wordpress.com/2016/06/25/the-history-of-the-syndemic-of-aids/
The fact is – what people believe about LBGT being ‘alternate’ ‘orientations’ is a product of propaganda. It just isn’t true. Same sex attraction is a symptom of a problem and it is a disorientation….a sign that something is wrong.
Not only are STDs elevated in this population, so are injuries, bowel syndromes due to s3x acts, cancers, meningitis, addictions, violence, mental health issues, murders, suicides and early death.
To clarify – I didn’t literally watch, but observed the misfortunes and attacks on people I knew engaged in the homosexual lifestyle. You knew that – but just wanted to argue and attack me.
There is no scripture in the Bible that affirms or approves homosexual acts. The GOD who is LOVE would not approve acts/lifestyles/identities that result in suffering and death.
The seven laws of Noah preceded the Ten Commandments and Leviticus by centuries – and were very specific about sexual sin/prohibitions.
The seven Noachide Laws, as traditionally enumerated are:
1 Do Not Deny God
2 Do Not Blaspheme God
3 Do Not Murder
4 Do Not Engage in Incestuous, Adulterous or Homosexual Relationships.
5 Do Not Steal
6 Do Not Eat of a Live Animal
7 Establish Courts/Legal System to Ensure Law Obedience
By the time of Moses, the Israelites already understood that ‘adultery’ was any act or relationship that crossed the line of these Noah laws.
LINKS:

GA/FL

‘Orientation’ ‘sexual identity’ ‘gender identity’ ‘gay’ ‘straight’ and all the new alphabet of identities are hypothetical constructs – propaganda concepts invented by the LBGT activist lobby to promote their agenda. They used empirically proven psychological educational techniques over decades until people believe their lies. Same with Freud’s invented hypothetical terms – ego, id, super-ego, etc.
Over time they become part of the universal consciousness, standard belief.
But the problem is – it’s not true.
Romans 1:16-32 reveals the step by step process of the origin of sexual disorientation and same-sex attraction, beginning with rejecting the truth of nature, and the worship of GOD the creator.

GA/FL

Through the years, I have watched in horror as friends, neighbors engaging in homosexuality were beaten and murdered, died of AIDS. One professor said, after fielding a hotline for years, that gay was definitely the opposite of the word for that population.

Ken

You’ve watched in horror as friends and neighbors who were engaging in homosexuality were beaten and murdered? And, your conclusion is that they should stop being gay? Am I reading you correctly here?
My conclusion is that those who are doing the beatings and murdering should stop their actions.
We apparently differ here.
I am not sure how to even respond to your comment about what a professor once said. I am not even sure what your point was. People say the darndest things. Even professors.

Ken

Wolfmoon, I agree with everything you wrote.
To be clear, I didn’t tell anyone to shut up, nor would I want anyone to be banned.
I clearly have no issues with the LGBT community or it’s right to exist and marry. I agree with you that the LGBT agenda has been pushed to the point of damage, etc.
I agree with your last paragraph for sure. 1st amendment, in my opinion, is worth dying for.
What I disagreed with, and have a right to say as well, is GA/FL’s righteous statement of “truth” in how someone else should live their life. In no way was I trying to muffle GA/FL, not was I making any comment in the impact of the LGBT agenda (YOU took it there).
I am a conservative libertarian. Atheist, too, FWIW, considering Steve’s exit… Let others live their life as they wish, as long as it doesn’t interfere with others rights to pursue their happiness.
Branden Straka has a right to pursue happiness. And if his happiness means living a gay lifestyle (even if it is a high risk lifestyle, GA/FL!!!!!), it’s his unalienable right, according to our Constitution. And just like you wrote that you would stand up for someone else’s right to speak, even if it contradicts your opinion, I stand up for someone else’s right to pursue happiness even if it’s a lifestyle I don’t belong to.
If this site becomes too religious and features comments that vilify others simply for whom they love, it will just be another blog on the trash heap, IMO.

Linda

Whoa! Where is all this incivility coming from today? This is the first time I’ve seen it to such an extent on this site. Can’t we disagree without accusations? Don’t we get enough of that from leftists? Do we have to bring it here, too?

Ken

So let me get this right:
When GA/FL makes a homophobic comment regarding another individual stating that s/he hopes this gay man “wisens” up to the “truth” before running for office, everyone here on this board is a-ok.
But, when I point out that perhaps GA/FL’s opinion is not a “truth” and that perhaps being a homosexual has nothing to do with a person’s “wisdom”, not only does Wolfmoon come to GA/FL’s rescue, but now I am being “uncivil”.
Sorry if that ruffles your feathers. I’ll pray for you.

Sylvia Avery

You are obviously not acquainted with GA/FL. She has long espoused her belief system and explained why.
Free speech is valued here.

‘He said his administration is also speaking out against “religious persecution around the world, including against religious minorities, Christians, and the Jewish community.”
‘Elon Carr, a new special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism, was appointed this week by Trump. Carr left on Feb. 5 to attend two conferences on anti-Semitism in for Belgium and Slovakia.’

AOC is openly mocking our political system to create chaos and distract from the success of POTUS and MAGA. This green thing is so ridiculous, there’s no other explanation. That’s how the Commies roll.

NebraskaFilly

Pelosi is NOT this stupid! They are using AOC to distract, IMO, from what the left hand is doing.

One can see the Dems resorting to ‘the law’ WRT what ‘infanticide’ means in legal parlance: ‘We’re not committing infanticide at all! This is what legal opinions/precedents say about it …’
Kudos to your lawyer friend, milady — and thanks for checking out a legal POV.

I just to adore magic tricks when i was younger and would always wonder how they were done. When I got my first library card, I went in search of answers and found many books detailing how to do magic. After I got the answers I sought, I was both satisfied and disappointed at the same time. Satisfied that I could peel back a layer and understand what was mystifying me and have it explained, but disappointed that I now knew I was being played and it diminished my enjoyment of the illusion. Sometimes it’s better not to know and just enjoy the magic as it unfolds…
That being said, one of the things I learned early on, is that in order to deceive an audience, you have to have them focus on something different in order to pull off your trick…AOC is part of the illusion…what BIG thing are they trying to pull off?

NebraskaFilly

Ah, Pat – I didn’t read QUITE far enough before I posted basically the same thing! Great minds, eh? LOL – agree – Pelosi is evil through-and-through but she is NOT stupid!

GA/FL

PDJT is very much paying attention to a wide range of details and events at many levels!
Donald J Trump was not just a great, hard-working, fearless, commanding candidate – he was compassionate about the plight of americans being held under the fist of PC, illegal immigration, lawlessness, tyranny practiced by corrupt, dishonest politicians, their self-interested donors and leftist ideologues, and many other painful realities.
IT WAS TRUMP’S POLICIES and Trump’s unflinching truth-telling and courage that won the White House!!!

GA/FL

Continued:
Trump cared about the loss of jobs, businesses, factories due to bad tax and regulation policies, loss of health insurance, the loss of life and limb of our young soldiers due to endless wars, senseless killing, dissection and selling of the tissue of unborn human beings, and the disgraceful huge amount of public funds going to Planned Parenthood and back to politicians – that the Democrat and RINOs do not care a gnat’s eyelash about.

GA/FL

Trump didn’t care or quit due to media schemes, smears and scathing stories, due to noisy violent protests, or the pretend superiority, pretend virtue and derision of politicians and pretend conservatives.
Trump didn’t care about foreign interests, politician reputations, or any of the usual candidate concerns…he focused with a single eye on what is right, true and basic about this country and its needs.
He even made a Contract with the American Voter and signed it with his super-bold pen:
https://assets.donaldjtrump.com/_landings/contract/O-TRU-102316-Contractv02.pdf
American taxpayer/workers responded in mass to this new kind of candidate.
And that’s how Donald J Trump won the White House!

2/ right click
3/ select ‘Copy Link Location’
4/ ‘Paste’ on here.

my memory isn’t clear of the exact moment, but weren’t we all expressing a little anxiety lately that the Dems were attacking POTUS (and by extension us) from all sides–it was during the shutdown or around POTUS’s decision to end the shutdown.
This now, I believe, is the boomerang effect that is spoken of so often with POTUS–hit him hard, he retaliates ten times over…
these are all arrows in his quiver and he is just shooting them all of Stupidville (located anywhere Dems live)

Sylvia Avery

Pat, I adore reading your comments. Smart and funny. Love you.

Aubergine

Great commentary! Thanks for posting it.
I agree with it all. I, like most of us, would really like to see mass arrests of the Deep State, including and up to Obama. But that would likely cause civil war. I know many want to see it, but that would be bad. If this is the Plan, I am good with it.
Allowing the Demoncrats to simply self-destruct and show their true colors, all the while loading courts at all levels with conservative originalist judges, building the wall on the Southern border, making our economy the best it’s ever been, and fostering lasting peace around the world is a strategy which puts AMERICA FIRST, and accomplishes the same ends. The demons out of power and out of our lives, and the chance for thinking people to keep them there. After all, the have to be voted in.
I know there are people who will say that is not justice, and I get it. These people are traitors, and should see prison time. But I have long believed that they live in a prison of their own making anyway. Can you imagine waking up in Hillary Clinton’s evil mind every day? I shudder to think. And, of course, many here believe she will get her comeuppance at the hands of her maker.
I for one believe Q is on the march. We see the evidence almost every day now.

AOC is a distraction. AOC looks like a twin of Huma Abedin’s sister Heba Abedin. They are all from NY. It looks like AOC is part of the Hillary group.
This is an interesting article about Hillary and Abedin.
https://canadafreepress.com/article/whats-wrong-with-hillarys-face-huma-abedin
Add Brenner and Valerie Jarret into the equation and it starts becoming clearer. Muslims.
Add in the Covington debacle, the NY and other states bringing in post birth abortion laws. Think beheading Christians for Idol Worship.
I keep trying to remember something but I can’t quite remember and can’t find it in a net search yet. Around 1990 or 1991, people in America were becoming very angry with the UN. We started getting a lot of stories about how the UN was losing its power and would not last much longer. We relaxed. In 1991, Bush did the Iraq war and the UN was stronger than ever. In 2019, we are still saddled with the UN.
Right now, there is a concentrated effort to make the Democratic party seem weak. They are not weak. They are firmly entrenched with the Deep State. Schumer and Pelosi at the SOTU were looking smug and mocking through the whole speech. They did not seem concerned in any way about losing their power. They didn’t even bother with a rebuttal. They just mocked President Trump.
This is still about Obama, Jarrett, Brennan, the Muslims, etal. The Democrats are not the problem, they are the distraction.
As Q says, keep your neck on a swivel. Stay alert. Be prepared. They do not attack in a frontal assault. These are dangerous times.
Watch and pray.

“I bring up the whole atheism issue because lately I have noticed a trend here–this site is resembling, more and more, a big revival meeting.
It is your privilege to do so as Wolf is not only allowing but encouraging it.
But it holds no value to me. I have to go through more and more of what is, to me, meaningless noise, but I am expected to “respect” it, even if only by remaining silent–while knowing that if I posted my opinion on such matters just once in the vast sea of overtly Christian postings, it would get little to no respect and certainly wouldn’t be greeted by silence.”
Altho I took issue with his statement about using the word “infant,” Steve is correct, IMO – I have mentioned often my current on-going transition in my Faith but the details are a private issue that I have hesitated to expose too deeply here because of exactly what Steve references. Every day, I also scroll past comment after comment that has absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand = Q and the state of our Country. If I wanted religious proselytizing, I would go to a dedicated religious site. That is NOT why I come here!
Y’all may or may not have noticed but I haven’t been here as much lately and this is why. I pick up a LOT of vibes of virtue signalling and “Holier Than Thou” attitudes. I exposed a lot of info about myself personally within the last couple of weeks and have noticed a decided drop in interactions after that. Hmmm….judgmental much? TBH, I never understood the complaints from atheists about not being included or recognized – now I do!
IMO,the Bible was written by men, therefore, it is NOT literal – it is a collection of stories and legends passed down verbally through the generations. I did some deep research into the origins of the Bible and this is the conclusion I have reached. I also no longer believe in prayer and I do not believe God “watches over everyone.” WE are in charge of our lives, and NO-ONE else! And NO, I DO NOT WANT TO DISCUSS IT!
Might I suggest, Wolfie, a separate thread for those who wish to discuss theology and keep the other threads directly related to our entire purpose here?

Gil

There are a lot of lurkers and not as many people talking as have ability to do so. Maybe its a religious concern, maybe lack of Q, maybe they need topic direction. Its likely why ot has a prayer thread, holiday religious threads, a daily thread and separate open thread. These issues arise.
I think Wolf wants us to police ourselves while remaining as open as possible.

NebraskaFilly

Gudthots

I don’t want to change you.
I just want to be free to be me.

NebraskaFilly

We can and should all be free to “be me.” All I ask is that I not have to scroll through pages and pages of biblical text. I have 10 bibles in my house – I think I can find one to read. I have stifled my own comments for a while now because I know – just like Steve, TBH – that I will get barraged with advice and bible verses. I LIVED this my entire life and I am not seeking advice or resolution. I also shouldn’t have to put up with that, no? *sigh* Enough – I HATE fighting! Can we just put this to bed and get along? I appreciate it when people just put up the separate threads, then I know ahead of time.

Gudthots

I can understand how you might have a bruise on that spot. If the voice of your abuser is the one you hear when scripture is quoted the pain would be very real.
Different voices. I was very lost and hurting when the good shepherd, with a gentle and kind face, rescued me. The heart behind the voice makes all the difference in the world. My heart breaks for those who still suffer from echos of memories of abuse.

NebraskaFilly

That is what turned me away from organized religion for sure, and is much of the reason behind my cynicism of the same. However, that has nothing to do with where I am now. I also was privileged to know many truly Godly Pastors and Teachers. Thank you for your kind thoughts, however – those are always appreciated!

That is almost certainly because many people here care about you. One of the ways they express that care (or concern) for you is by pointing to the truth of God’s Word.
Why would you stifle yourself in response?
Why not challenge instead, and see where it goes?
There must be millions upon millions of Christians who were unbelievers first. They did not change their mind by osmosis. Some of the harshest critics of Christianity in general and the Scriptures in particular have, after much study, become Christians.

” I LIVED this my entire life and I am not seeking advice or resolution.”
________________
Okay, what is it that you lived your entire life? You mention elsewhere in this thread that you have some objection to ‘organized religion’.
This term means different things to different people. In at least one sense, I agree with you, much of what is loosely referred to as ‘organized religion’ just… it doesn’t match what the Bible plainly says about the Lord’s church and it doesn’t resemble the 1st century church — not in organization, not in doctrine, not in practice(s), and many other things.
So if the inspired Word of God is (for example) the ‘true’, and if we may have been following or practicing something other than the ‘true’, is it any wonder we may eventually get to a point where we can no longer overlook all of the conflicts and other issues?
But is the proper response to such an epiphany or realization to throw the baby out with the bathwater?
Or is it an impetus to start LOOKING for the ‘true’ — maybe for the first time?

I do not post the verses above to aggravate you, but to show that what I am saying is not some thing I made up on my own, but what is taught by the Scriptures themselves.

Scott……. My tongue is BLEEDING……
Thank you for GRACIOUSLY stating the OBVIOUS

churchmouse

@NF: But there are not ‘pages and pages of biblical text’ on this site.
Furthermore, I disagree with the proposed prohibition of the mention of the Creator of the universe, the Bible and whatever else might be Judaeo-Christian.
This is confusing. A couple of weeks ago, you told us how soundly you were raised in a small town in Nebraska by family and neighbours — and now this.
Many of us did not expect you to come out against Christianity.
That said, you are free to express your thoughts.
Those of us who are Jewish or Christian (or otherwise) here would appreciate the same common courtesy to express ourselves.

rayzorbak

Amen….. or should we not say that now?

churchmouse

🙂
Thanks, rayzorbak!

NebraskaFilly

Where, exactly, did I ask the following: “Furthermore, I disagree with the proposed prohibition of the mention of the Creator of the universe, the Bible and whatever else might be Judaeo-Christian.” Where, exactly, did I come out “against” Christianity in totality? Just because MY version of Christianity does not meet YOUR requirements, now I am not a Christian at all? I see…..

churchmouse

My comment was not aimed at you specifically, NF, but at a couple of people who wanted separate threads for Scripture citations at the Q Tree. They appeared to want — or so it seems to some of us — purely secular/political threads bar one a day.
That said, it did surprise me when you wrote, ‘All I ask is that I not have to scroll through pages and pages of biblical text. I have 10 bibles in my house – I think I can find one to read. I have stifled my own comments for a while now because I know – just like Steve, TBH – that I will get barraged with advice and bible verses. I LIVED this my entire life and I am not seeking advice or resolution. I also shouldn’t have to put up with that, no?’
For a start, as I said in my reply, there are not ‘pages and pages of biblical text’ on this site.
Next, it sounded as if you had suddenly turned against Scripture and what lay behind it. Who can tell? We are reading each other’s comments, not each other’s hearts.
You laid out your own perspective. I never said that your version of Christianity had to meet mine. I’m an easy going Episcopalian/Anglican, too easy going for some Christians, but, somehow they and I often meet in the middle.
Did I say you are not a Christian? Please, do point that out. Thanks in advance. It just sounded as if you were coming out ‘against Christianity’. Your perspective suddenly became quite negative. Surprisingly so, in fact.
‘I know – just like Steve, TBH – that I will get barraged with advice and bible verses. I LIVED this my entire life and I am not seeking advice or resolution.’ Personally, that did not sound positively disposed towards either Holy Scripture or Christianity in that context.
I don’t have any ‘requirements’ about your profession of Christ. I noted only that your tone had changed in your explanation of why you hadn’t been commenting here recently.
Nebraska Filly, I wish you all the very best in future, here at the Q Tree or elsewhere.

NebraskaFilly

Let’s move forward, shall we? Best to you as well.

It’s also a matter of personal responsibility. I CHOOSE what I read, like, comment on, or scroll past. NO ONE is making me DO any of the above except ME. NO ONE is doing anything to me that I don’t allow. Is is Binary, I am either a Victor or a Victim. I determine what I will or will not tolerate. When the intolerable outweighs the tolerable, I’m going to CHOOSE to move on (Victor), not fuss that people are making me scroll (Victim). Be offended or not, that’s also a personal choice. This is not intended with malice towards anyone, just my personal belief regarding individual choice and where responsibility lies.

It never seemed to me that lines were being drawn, so I guess that makes me naive. I figured everyone was like me–there are certain subjects that pop up that do not interest me or I do not understand and with those, I scroll on by. I thought silence or lack of response meant the same for everyone.
Despite my having a spiritual side, I cannot quote a single scripture, my prayer offerings are simple but sincere and I believe that I know what’s in my heart. And I don’t believe that we all need to believe the same things.
I’m glad you opened up Nebraska, because I believe there’s room for everyone in this treehouse…I hope you still feel welcome.

Welcomed by some, judged by some – but that is life, no? Haven’t quit the place yet! Thank you, Pat. I don’t want anyone to think that I don’t appreciate the extraordinary intellect and very enlightening and informative contributions here. I could seriously do with fewer bible verses, tho. – I always want to ask – ok, WHICH bible? SMH – there are so very many……I even experienced one pastor who didn’t even KNOW there were 3 different versions scattered around his church. And I did a study on that, as well – yes, the modifications DO change the meaning!

Gudthots

I appreciate your perspective NebraskaFilly.
And yes, some of us with scientific training do go on deep dives into historical basis for various choices in translations. For example, why did early NT translators apparently cover up the fact that a FEMALE apostle is named in one of the epistles?
I have lost count of the number of translations available on BibleGateway.com . Using the parallel feature allows for some interesting compare/contrast exercises. 🙂

NebraskaFilly

I even bought a book that contains 3 versions: Aramaic Hebrew, Greek, and English. I went looking for a place where I could learn Aramaic Hebrew so I could read original texts on-line (yeah, right – in Nebraska!) until I delved more deeply into the actual WRITING of the “Bible.” I am comfortable with my conclusions.

Then why not study that until you get an answer?
It is certainly true that some translations are better than others. Some are based on earlier manuscripts, some on later.
Due to the politicization of everything today — and political correctness, which certainly affects modern translations of Scripture — I am partial to the Authorized King James Version and the American Standard Version of 1901. They are “pre-PC”. They are not corrupted by political correctness or the overt subversion of the Left.
That doesn’t mean they are perfect translations, nothing could be “perfect”, it is part of the nature of translating from one language to another. And there are some flat out errors, though the only one I can think of at the moment is the use of the word “Easter” in the KJV. The original underlying Koine Greek word is “Passover”. The word “Easter” is not found anywhere in the original text of God’s Word, but (apparently) King James wanted it used, and so it was. But many online Bibles allow you to click on a verse, which takes you to a word by word break down, including the original Greek or Aramaic.
Example:
…………………………………………
https://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/act/12/4/s_1030004
“And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.” (Acts 12:4, KJV)
Click on the verse and it takes you to an Interlinear, showing each word in the verse, here is the result for the word “Easter”:
Easter
g3957
πάσχα
pascha
Click on “g3957” and it takes you to a detailed analysis of “pascha”.
Outline of Biblical Usage
I. the paschal sacrifice (which was accustomed to be offered for the people’s deliverance of old from Egypt)
II. the paschal lamb, i.e. the lamb the Israelites were accustomed to slay and eat on the fourteenth day of the month of Nisan (the first month of their year) in memory of the day on which their fathers, preparing to depart from Egypt, were bidden by God to slay and eat a lamb, and to sprinkle their door posts with its blood, that the destroying angel, seeing the blood, might pass over their dwellings; Christ crucified is likened to the slain paschal lamb
III. the paschal supper
IV. the paschal feast, the feast of the Passover, extending from the 14th to the 20th day of the month Nisan
KJV Translation Count — Total: 29x
The KJV translates Strong’s G3957 in the following manner: Passover (28x), Easter (1x).
The original underlying word “pascha” appears 29 times in the KJV. 28 of those times it means “Passover”. One time it is translated “Easter”, so it’s not rocket science to figure out that the translators were not faithful to a correct translation in that specific instance, and we know the reason why is because King James wanted the word “Easter” to be used instead. In the early 1600s, if you want to keep your head, you don’t defy the king.
If you check other translations, you will not find the word ‘Easter’, because they didn’t have King James hovering over their shoulder.
For example, here is the NKJV (New King James Version) of the same verse:
“So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover.” (Acts 12:4)
The American Standard Version (1901): “And when he had taken him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to guard him; intending after the Passover to bring him forth to the people.” (Acts 12:4)
The King James has been around since 1611, and has likely been gone over with a finer toothed comb than any other translation in existence. I am not aware of any other specific errors like the use of the word ‘Easter’, but if there are others, they are few and well known to scholars, and if they had any impact on Christian doctrine, they would be well known to professional pastors, in which case they would be well known to a great many Christians.

There is a vast amount of information available on the underlying text found in the Old Testament and the New Testament, and it is also true that scholars of ancient works (non-Biblical) would KILL to have the kind of quality and volume of ancient documentation available to Bible scholars. Partial texts, complete Bibles, and tens of thousands of fragments from various parts of the world, all of which can be and are compared to determine when/where/if a transcription error (or spelling error) was made, which enhances and provides greater confidence that our understanding is right.
By comparison, many other ancient books known to the world (e.g., by Tacitus, Caesar, Plato, Pliny the Younger, Thucydides, Suetonius, Herodotus, Sophocles, Aristotle, Catullus, Euripides, Demosthenes, Aristophanes, Homer, et al.) only survive by copies numbering in the single digits, or sometimes even only ONE surviving copy — and in nearly all cases, the surviving copy or copies were transcribed many hundreds of years (sometimes over a thousand years) after the original text was written.
Earliest Scripture fragments discovered = possibly as little as 25 years after the original vs. over a thousand years in many cases between the original and the oldest surviving copy of other great books of antiquity.
Scholars of other ancient works would LOVE to have the volume of evidence available to New Testament scholars, and with a significant number of the fragments dating to near the first or second century, they are often far closer to the original writing than most of the great ancient books which are known to the world.
Do we have confidence in the historicity, authenticity and accuracy of the great works by Tacitus, Plato, Sophocles, Aristotle, et al?
Certainly the scholars do, and they have FAR LESS transcript evidence, by many orders of magnitude, than Bible scholars have available to study.
So if we reject the historicity and authenticity of the Scriptures, then by how much more must we reject the authenticity of all the other books of antiquity? And if we reject those, we eliminate at least 90% of ALL of our knowledge of the ancient world! Without these ancient texts, all we have left is basically statues, pottery fragments and coins to go by!
And the volume of Scripture fragments makes it possible to compare, and where a difference is found, to figure out where an error of transcription was made. Some anti-Christian websites mention ‘thousands of errors’ discovered by scholars in the Scriptures. What they don’t mention is that:
A) nearly all of those ‘errors’ were matters of spelling or punctuation
and
B) to my knowledge, none of those ‘errors’ have any bearing on Christian teaching or doctrine
They don’t change a single teaching about Christianity or being saved.
So whether we are talking about the books of the Old Testament (thanks in large part to the Masorete scribes, and the more recent discovery of the ‘Dead Sea’ scrolls), or the books of the New Testament, which was copied prolifically and spread throughout the known ancient world (which is why so many fragments still survive today), we can have great confidence that what we have today has been preserved intact.

Great idea NebraskaFilly! I am not a highly religious person as well, and that is due to some very bad episodes as a child being brought up in a “high Cathiloc” Italian family! I believe in God but I have always felt that we need to be very careful reference how we describe or worship our creator! We really do not know exactly how it all comes down in the Bible but I do see the Bible as a survival manual! Not through religion though, but as a real down to earth survival manual!
I love God and I do pray regularly. I know there is a God…How can there not be?
God/Jesus never mentions religion, only that we remember and keep his word… It may be just me but when I hear the word “religion, I think of “control”! Religion, in my way of thinking, is just one man’s way of controlling another man’s beliefs!

NebraskaFilly

THAT is exactly what “organized” religion has become and, indeed, may have been from the beginning!!!! It is a method of control and collecting $$$$!

scott467

“THAT is exactly what “organized” religion has become and, indeed, may have been from the beginning!!!! It is a method of control and collecting $$$$!”
___________________
It often becomes about control and money, due to error and corruption (and greed, and power, etc.).
But it was not like that in the 1st century, and it is not like that in the Scriptures, and it should not be like that today, if we are keeping and following God’s Word.
Were there errors in practice in the 1st century? Certainly, many of Paul’s letters are written, at least in part, to address some specific error that has come to his attention, that some congregation is involved with.
And by learning of these errors, we learn not to repeat them. And if we do repeat them, we learn (from the Scriptures) how to correct them.
This is why guarding against error is so critical. If someone introduces some new doctrine or practice, it takes only one generation for that belief or practice to become ‘tradition’ (a tradition of men, not of God).
A generation or two later, someone else builds upon that faulty foundation, expanding it further, or using the error as a foundation for a whole new error.
Error begets error.
Now imagine this process playing itself out for 500 years… or 1,000 years… or 1,800 years.
You could easily end up so far away from the original practices and beliefs of the Lord’s church as it is revealed in Scripture that what we do today is not even recognizable as Biblical Christianity.
Now look around at the world about us. So many different groups self-identifying as ‘Christian’, each doing their own thing, based on whatever seems best to them — and if something different seems best to them next week or next month or next year, they’ll do that.
How does this happen?
Not by fidelity to God’s Word, for one thing.
Error begets error.
The New Testament is the blueprint for the Lord’s church. Follow that blueprint, and you will do well (“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” – John 14:15). Deviate from it, and you’re flying by the seat of your pants — you’re on your own, doing your own thing.
The seat of your pants is not what you want to have to explain on Judgment Day.
So does that mean that all ‘organized religion’ is bad or wrong?
What do the Scriptures say?
…………………………..
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) [24] And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: [25] Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:23-25)
“And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.” (Acts 20:7)
…………………………..
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together. That (and other Scriptures) means we are to be a part of a local ‘body’ or congregation which meets regularly.
How regularly?
On the first day of the week.
What is the first day of the week?
Sunday.
Does that mean attend the church of our choice, that any one will do?
As Paul might say, ‘God forbid!’.
Are we seeking to please (or worse, entertain) ourselves, or are we seeking to please God?
It should go without saying (but since it doesn’t, it needs to be said) that we should, if at all possible, find a congregation that is faithfully following God’s Word.
How can we know?
By comparing what any congregation or church does to what God’s Word says, on any given subject. If you find a congregation which follows God’s Word, it won’t be by accident, it will be because they know and study the Scriptures and follow them.
It takes effort and commitment and the involvement of the whole congregation — if they just leave it up to the preacher, how will they know if the preacher is in error about some thing — or worse, leading them astray? So they will be more than happy to show you why they practice some thing, or believe some thing, showing you the Authority for what they do from God’s Word — book, chapter and verse.
It is true that the word ‘religion’ is only found five times in the Bible, in five verses, all in the New Testament. Three of those are where Paul refers to his experience in the religion of the Jews, or his specific sect, the Pharisees (Acts 26:5, Galatians 1:13 and 1:14).
The other two are in James, where one is negative and the other is positive (James 1:26, and James 1:27).
So what can we conclude?
Religion can be in vain (James 1:26, cf. Matthew 15:9, Mark 7:7), or religion can be pure (James 1:26). But generally, the word ‘religion’ is not found in the Scriptures very much at all.
But what the Bible does say, over and over, by command and example, is to keep, follow, obey and abide by the Scriptures, i.e., God’s Word, a.k.a., the Word of God.
………………………..
“And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. [28] But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.” (Luke 11:27-28, boldface emphasis mine)
………………………..
There are congregations which do exactly this, keep God’s Word and follow it. It is important to them to do this, because God’s Word says it’s important. These congregations can be found throughout the country and around the world.
You just have to look for them. 🙂

“assembling of ourselves together” (as we are doing HERE)……
It doesn’t have to be at the “building” down the road, or anywhere in particular….
(Though I do not condemn it)…..
ANYWHERE that “scripture” is debated and knowledge is increased…
Is a good thing to me.
The Holy Spirit will Guide each and EVERY one of us as HE see fit.

*sigh* It is an accumulation of things, brought to a head by the loss of my daughter four years ago, which is when I lost my belief in prayer. As for the Bible, it was put together by men – fallible beings – over the course of generations, beginning with such documents/groups as The Pentateuch and such. Over the generations, there were MANY translations, ALL of which changed individual meanings in some form or fashion. This is why I do not take the Bible literally.
It is true that before my daughter’s death, the posting of voluminous religious discussions and bible text didn’t grate on me as much as it now does. My overall point is this – I do not visit this blog to discuss religion – I come here to discuss Q-related matters as well as saving our country and what we can do individually to support our President.
I will continue to keep many comments to myself in the interests of keeping the peace. If I decide this branch is no longer of enough value to me to spend my time here, then I will leave. Thanks and have a great day.

scott467

“As for the Bible, it was put together by men – fallible beings – over the course of generations, beginning with such documents/groups as The Pentateuch and such.”
________________
Okay, if we’re including Old Testament in the discussion, then consider that the 66 individual books and letters of the Bible were written down by 40+ different men, of vastly different backgrounds, different vocations and different social status (from kings to physicians to fishermen), across a span of some 1500+ years (Genesis to Revelation).
Men who lived in different eras, some of whom spoke different languages, in different parts of the world.
And yet the story which is revealed is consistent and reconciles, forward and backward, from Genesis to Revelation.
That’s some trick.
One I’ve not seen duplicated, anywhere.
.
“Over the generations, there were MANY translations, ALL of which changed individual meanings in some form or fashion.”
_______________
What translations were done with the Old Testament, from the time it was written down in Hebrew, all the way up to the Septuagint, when it was translated into Greek, in the 2nd century BC?
And the Hebrew Old Testament didn’t end or stop being used when the Septuagint was completed, it just meant that from that point onward there was both the Old Testament in the original Hebrew and a Greek translation.
So the Old Testament still exists in the original Hebrew, it became available in Greek circa 2nd century BC, and has since been translated into many other languages, but the original Hebrew Old Testament is still available to anyone who can read Hebrew.
As for the New Testament, nearly all of it was written in something called Koine Greek.
Languages change over time, they are dynamic and change organically with use (or they are purposely manipulated, like the Left does today).
God’s providence is an amazing thing. Do you know what is so interesting about Koine Greek, the language of the New Testament?
It is a DEAD language.
Therefore it doesn’t change. The meanings of the words have not ‘evolved’ or changed over time. Koine Greek means the same thing today that it meant in the 1st century.
And just as lots of people can read the Hebrew Old Testament in the original Hebrew, lots of people can read the Koine Greek New Testament in the original Koine Greek.
It is true that there are many translations… I suspect the Bible has been translated into every language on earth by this point, the Bible is the most widely published book in the history of the world.
But the underlying Hebrew and Greek still exists. That’s why whether you are reading the Bible in Swahili or Basque or Cantonese or English (or any other language), if a question about translation arises, you can always go to the original underlying Hebrew or Koine Greek to see exactly how a given word or verse was translated.
.
“This is why I do not take the Bible literally.”
_________________
Good. Then if that’s all it was, have we not resolved that issue now?
If so, then what, if anything, prevents you from taking the Bible literally (at least the literal parts, some parts are not literal, e.g., parables) at this point?

scott467

“I come here to discuss Q-related matters as well as saving our country and what we can do individually to support our President.”

On this we are in very much agreement 👍

Since were back on the subject I might be amiss if I don’t give my 2 Cents worth on SteveCO’s parting shot. Then again I might be amiss by giving it. Anyway,
I’m in the skeptic camp about SteveCO’s reasons for leaving. Understands it’s hard to maintain a facade. which is what I assume he was doing. Things like that take a lot of energy and can lead to burn out.
I don’t have a warm and fuzzy about “not enough Q”. Doesn’t think he was ever much about that. Fact if I remember correctly his stated reason for coming here was he too was kicked out of CTH while under another name, and he shared only that in common. Nothing else except perhaps one might assume some good comradeship.
The too much God thing doesn’t seem to hit home either as it is too easy to dance around if one wishes. All it takes is some respect for others and their beliefs. There’s no evangelism going on here. Or at least I don’t feel it. Just joy and or angst expressed as is ones want done in a multitude of ways. Something to be celebrated, not quibbled about while walking away.
Personally I find some, mind you some, atheist come across as being holier than now and would be better served if they considered religion to be a function. That though might lend to an an argument back, but really they have nothing to offer in that field, as they can’t provide a universal frame work of thought such as structured religion provides that keeps the people on the straight and narrow, not with out educating the masses. Something they seem to fail terribly at and thus one might think it to be by nefarious design. If it could of been done the ancients would of done it. They had much more time to think it out than we do today.
When Rome while still in the Republic saw the writing on the wall, the ones that believed the least were some of the same that lamented having shredded the pantheon after realizing they had nothing comparable to put in its place.
I admit some of those thoughts are not flushed out but nor am I wanting to write a book.
Personally thinks Steve has been reassigned or the project was canceled and or the Company no longer requires him here. But that’s me. No one has to share that belief. Not expecting you to. Right or wrong those are my thoughts and knows I’m a bit strange with some of my notions, but there they are.
And of course he’d be welcomed back anytime. The banter much enjoyed.

Cuppa Covfefe

Interesting comment. There’s a poster over at chiefio who doesn’t share his name, but shares initials (being intentionally cryptic here, sorry). ParaLLelism is difficult to convey absent formulae…

This is good, and interesting.
Earlier you claimed not to believe the Scriptures, saying: “IMO,the Bible was written by men, therefore, it is NOT literal – it is a collection of stories and legends passed down verbally through the generations. I did some deep research into the origins of the Bible and this is the conclusion I have reached.”
So your position is that you utterly reject the authenticity of the Bible.
So it begs the question, if you don’t believe the Scriptures, then how can you believe or know anything about God — at all?
Seriously, think about it.
If you reject the authenticity of the Scriptures, if they are nothing more than a collection of legends passed down verbally through the generations (the scholarship on that claim has to be so bad I would love to know your source), then where else are you getting any idea at all, about Who God is, or what He has done, or what He expects of you?
Dreams?
Feelings? (whoa, whoa, whoa… feelings….)
Intuition?
Movies?
Bumper stickers?
What?
This is important.
How can the “belief” that “is embedded deeply within me” exist — at all — if you completely reject the authenticity of the Bible?
From whence does this ‘belief’ come?
.
“I also no longer believe in prayer and I do not believe God “watches over everyone.” ”
_________________
Okay, but why did you believe it in the first place?
There had to be a reason… what was it?
And what changed?

realsauce

I agree with you, though I do tend to have a live and let live view of it and as long as their is no lecturing directly to those who might not be religious or as religious I’m fine with the occasional prayer being posted.
……same as I would with anyone form other faiths that truly are patriots, that believe individual Liberty is our guiding force and believe that evil does lurk as the deep state and that we are all here together to inform one another and fight the good fight.

Cuppa Covfefe

The state of our country is DIRECTLY tied to the state of the FAITH in our country.
Despite the revisions and protestations of the left (Rockefeller and Columbia-baseed ed. biz. folks, for the most part) this country WAS founded by men of FAITH, who were unafraid to both share and LIVE their beliefs; indeed many DIED for them. And many of the Founding Fathers’ writings reference GOD, both in gratitude and in requests for guidance and protection.
Having grown up and worked in the SF Bay Area (sillly-cone valley) and in Los Angeles in my University years, I have encountered the opposite problem to what Steve, and it appears you protest: absolute ideological refusal to accept my faith, and my point of view, as it was considered to be that of a mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, flat-earh contingent that belonged elsewhere; not in California. A friend sought all means to justify an “old Earth”, even to the point of an alternate translation, simply because he could not bear the ridicule of his colleagues. To which I asked, “What is the bigger miracle: creating the Universe out of nothing; or how long it takes to do it”.
Most of the folks that I encountered there could not deal with the existence of an infinite Being; One that could not be measured with earthly yardsticks, concepts, and measures. In other words, Some ONE who was infinitely greater than them. And, being highly technical, they sought to understand and explain everything, as if they were the final arbiter of right and wrong (similar to the “Fact Checkers” of the YSM).
Yet there were those of us, also computing, OS, hardware, and compiler experts, who were humble enough to realize that Someone Greater than us both exists, and loves us; indeed without whom we would be without hope.
There are many, MANY blogs out there which welcome Atheism, Agnosticism, Wicca, and goodness-knows-what-all (while discouraging Christianity in all ways shapes and forms) – believe me, I’ve seen them, posted on them, and been SAVAGED on them. Say anything remotely Christian on http://www.theregister.co.uk or http://www.heise.de, or just about any of the climate blogs, and you can either argue all day, or crawl away with your keyboard melted from the flames. So much for the vaunted “tolerance” (which is a VERY misused word, by the way, and to engineers and technical types that misuse should be especially apparent).
President Trump thanks GOD, asks for GOD’S Blessings, and supports GOD as both the AUTHOR and PROTECTOR of life, as well as the CREATOR of life. I think he and his views are similar to thost of the Founding Fathers, and are well worth mentioning.
And moving them to a separate thread is nothing short of censorship.and intolerance. Sorry. Recipes and muscial composition thoughts (something like the art threads which would pop up OT from time to time) might be nice, but THEY are WAY off topic, as opposed to the FAITH which both built and sustains this country.
(I’d dearly love to discuss the main theme which is shared the Tallis Fantasia, Holst’s suite for band, “The Girl of the County Down, and other Isrish/English foik music that was backgound music to an historical YouTube on which SingularZoe replied to OT; but yep, I can’t find that thread OT and probably wouldn’t be allowed to comment there, so that’s that). But again, that’s OK.
The seeming lack of Q comments is probably due to the current paucity of Q drops, which, in turn, is usually indicative of “something in the offing”. AOC is too strange to be true, and there are a TON of dots waiting to be joined over there. Do you have any Q-infors?
Finally, this IS an open thread, and (I would hope by definition) ALL points and points-of-view would be welcomed and encouraged (excepts those that be be problems as defined on the 01.01.2019 thread). Seeing and TOLERATING other points of view can either be a source or irritation and torment, of a means by which one refines and sharpens one’s own “points”. Iron sharpens iron.
FWIW, I called BS on Evolution long before I became a Born-Again Christian (and endured a long tour through many belief (and unbelief) systems, even some of the cults). Opened quite a few doors, and all but one were empty and dangerous. [And this is from someone who had 99th-percentile and above test scores from the “Iowa Tests” clear through the SATs and ACTs, and read memory dumps for fun (and occasionally for profit).
Finally, a few points to consider from a professor of informatics with specialization in numerical mathematics, among other computational fields. From a very technical (yet accessible) point of view, there are a number of books written by Professor Dr. Werner Gitt, who is both a committed Christian, and an a respected information scientist and professor.
His book, In The Beginning Was Information, (pdf at: http://www.clv-server.de/pdf/255255.pdf ) is a thorough examination of Creation versus Evolution from a very technical point of view. He has other books, such as “If Animals Could Talk” which discuss complexity found in nature that is not explainable by chance. PDF is also online at http://www.clv-server.de/pdf/255760.pdf as well as its companion book, “The Wonder of Man” at http://www.clv-server.de/pdf/255397.pdf . There are a number of other books in English (and German and other languages) on his site. https://wernergitt.com/books/english
His doctorate was Summa Cum Laude, so he’s the real deal (nice fellow, too). CV:
1937 Born in Raineck, East Prussia (Germany)
1963–1968 Completed his studies as engineer (Diplom Ingenieur) at the Technical University of Hannover.
1968–1971 Assistant at the Institute of Control Engineering at the Technical University of Aachen. Following 2 years of research work, he received his doctorate summa cum laude.
1971–2002 Director and professor of the Information Technology Division at the German Federal Institute of Physics and Technology (PTB) in Braunschweig, Germany.
1978 Promoted to director and professor at the PTB. Research in the field of information science, numerical mathematics and control engineering.
His many original research findings have been published in scientific journals.
Author of several popular books on the subject of biblical faith and science.
His expertise in science and technical fields is undisputed. So any aspersions of imprecision, flat-earthing, blind emotion, etc. don’t apply with him (again, he’s not a robot, though).
Sorry for the length, and the lack of a TL;DR at the top. Short story, I don’t like to see Christians (or any viewpoint for that matter, whether I agree or not) being marginialized…

NebraskaFilly

I appreciate the thought and no-doubt good wishes behind your comment but THIS is exactly what I specifically stated I did NOT come here for! Please refrain from proselytizing to me. Thank you.

Cuppa Covfefe

You can choose to ignore it the same as I do all the flames on technical fora on which I participate. And I was not proselytizing you. Somehow I knew you would reply that way, as you did OT. I didn’t mean to trigger you.
But I won’t apologize for my beliefs either. No one else does, especially in CA. It’s what’s called a free society. Silencing the thoughts and beliefs of those with which you don’t agree is not very charitable, no matter what your belief structure. The scroll bar and page-up/page down are useful keys (except with what the latest version of the chrome engine has done to them)…

Wonderful post, Cuppa. Thanks!
“not explainable by chance”
Indeed. Science (physics, math) hasn’t figured out ORDER yet. It’s top-down, FIRST (and only THEN bottom-up) … but all scientists allow for is bottom-up. They don’t HAVE the top; they don’t have the beginning.
The term “emergence” (and “boot-strap” principle) is what they use to describe their, hmm, ignorance.
“99th-percentile and above”
I already knew you’re a smart cookie, Cuppa – knowing two (at least) languages WELL is a strong indication! For me, I expanded my thinking with music (Einstein played violin, yes? It uses a part of the brain / mind that analytics don’t, and so, it broadens mentality).
I was accused, at a young age, of having the condition of “extreme mathematical precocity”. I had no defense against the accusation, and live with the consequences to this day. Ha!
“humble enough”
This is key (as I already mentioned in another post today).
Glad you’re here too!
Cheers!

Cuppa Covfefe

Thanks, ES. Some of the best programmers/developers/(computer)architects I know are also excellent musicians. Also some of the best debuggers, which is a special talent in and of itself [were more developers excellent debuggers, we wouldn’t need (other) excellent debuggers, but I digress].
It would appear that the ability to create or follow abstractions, and think “outside of the box” are also necessary when creating the artificial (albeit small) world of a program or (not-so-small) operating system.
One might say that being comfortable with “long branches” (while remembering the return pointers) is probably brought from musical abillity. Hmmm. Does that mean that bassonists are especially good programmers??? (and contra-bassonists???).
Here’s a vid of (supposedly Einstein) playing the violin (note the date – 4/1). Actually it’s the noted violinist Carl Fleisch, but the video has many pictures of Albert Einstein playing in a string quartet. Reportedly he problems with *cough* counting (heyyy, it’s all relative). A few anecdotes:

One day, the story goes, Albert Einstein was playing string quartets with his friend Fritz Kreisler, the great Viennese violinist. Einstein went wrong. “You know, Albert,” said Kreisler, “your trouble is that you can’t count.”
It’s a tale told in various permutations. But what’s indisputable is that the discoverer of the theory of general relativity was also, in his spare time, an eager violinist. “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician,” he was quoted as saying. “I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music… I get most joy in life out of music.”

Einstein often used his fame to meet and befriend musicians he admired. He would play chamber music with them and, though no virtuoso, could usually hold his own. Except for counting, that is: Jelly d’Aranyi, the Hungarian violinist for whom Ravel wrote his celebrated Tzigane, once stopped while playing a string quartet with Einstein and remarked: “Albert, your time is very relative today…”
The American author Jerome Weidman left another beautiful anecdote. As a young man, considering himself tone deaf, he attended with trepidation a musical soirée at the home of a New York philanthropist. He found himself sitting next to Einstein, who asked if he liked Bach. When Weidman admitted he had no ear for music, Einstein whisked him out to their host’s study; there, with the aid of a Bing Crosby record and other music, culminating with Bach, the scientist proved to the youth that he had simply had his ears closed to classical music by an unfortunate early experience with a teacher, and that his “ear” was perfectly good.
The evening instilled in Weidman a love for Bach that never left him. When their hostess asked why they had missed the performance, Einstein smiled: “My young friend here and I were engaged in the greatest activity of which man is capable: opening up yet another fragment of the frontier of beauty.”

(from an article in the Independent, sadly not independent from Marxism…).
And the vid:

churchmouse

I wanted to ‘like’ this v. much but did not, because of some of the comments, e.g. ‘Happy April Fools 🙂 ‘ from a violinist and at least two people (in the YT comments) mentioning that Carl Flesch was playing here.

Cuppa Covfefe

Actually I mentioned that in my comment – it isn’t Einstein playing (there probably are no recordings extant, and there certainly aren’t any vidoes. It was well known that he was a very good amateur violinist, but with nis background, he took a lot of ribbing from the pros about his “counting”. He also had his phone number written on a slip of paper in his desk in case he forgot, so he was probably preoccupied a lot.
And it was an April Fools post, done on March 31. I posted it for the pictures of Einstein, not the veracity of him playing. Those pictures were from him playing a benefit; there’s a Jewish historical society (I think in New York) that has more pictures.
Funny how music and technical expertise to together. Many of my expert and labbie colleagues and friends are fine musicians, some of them excellent musicians.

churchmouse

Sorry, CC, all of it was way beyond my ken.
Hope you understand.
I do not doubt the myriad talents of scientists from whatever field.

“What is the bigger miracle: creating the Universe out of nothing; or how long it takes to do it”.
Can I please use this comment?
It (along with most of your comment) is PROFOUND (WISE for those in Rio Linda)

Cuppa Covfefe

Yes, feel free to use it, thanks!
It always baffles (OK, disturbs) me that people will acknowledge the Miracle of Creation, yet cannot wrap their minds around the fact that the AUTHOR of this Universe can make or do what HE likes in terms of time, observed peoperties, etc. If GOD wants to make a point source of light appear to be (what we measure as) 15 billion light-years away, what’s to keep HIM from doing it? Although I don’t think GOD intends to trick us, by any means (as Einstein said, GOD does not play dice with the universe).
Having said that, our mesures and methods are far from perfect, and our “standard candles” may not be so standard after all. If the first assumptions after parallax measurements are wrong (as they themselves are based on assumptions, albeit good ones), then everything else will be inaccurate. Cepheid Variables, various novae, and components of various HR scale populations might not be as we think them to be.
And yes, on some science fara I would be savaged for that “heresy”. To which I reply, Fred Hoyle and Hubble to you, too 🙂 Have a look at the Werner Gitt site I noted above (I think). really interesting reading, whether one agrees or not. Plus he’s a great person (met him at a wedding of a friend of mine who is in “Wort and Wissen”. A lot of his works are downloadable from CLV…

Aubergine

Thank you so much for your comment here, Nebraska.
I am very private about my religious beliefs. I, too, scroll past commentary that is about religion, simply because I don’t come here for that. What people believe or don’t believe about God is not relevant to my thoughts about politics. Americans are guaranteed freedom of religion, which means ANY religion, or none at all.
That said, we don’t have freedom “from” religion, so I scroll past what I don’t need to read. I respect everyone here, and their right to make whatever comment they wish. I am free to read them, or not. If Wolf wants to set up a religious discussion thread, that is up to him to decide.
I will continue to be here, reading and commenting, for as long as I am allowed to. I hope everyone else will do the same.
I’ll miss Steve.

NebraskaFilly

TY – I will miss him as well.

singingsoul

Aubergine I see posts as organic. This forum is unique because of its organic movement.
I can see if one is not open to it it can be unnerving or irritating.
Quote of a mentor of mine from the past ” God help us from religious people.” He was a Christian mystic.
I am like most never memorized Bible verses but I am very familiar with the Bible. I am not offended people sharing I always can learn. I also learn from atheists or other believes.
I have no interest on converting people because I know I do not have that power and do not seek it either.
Still I will be more careful.
Steve in a way has made me aware and so has filly and you and maybe many more who post and lurk .

scott467

“I have no interest on converting people because I know I do not have that power and do not seek it either.”
_______________
The ‘power’ is in the Word of God.
It is God’s Word that appeals to the heart and mind, not the words of men.
Certainly we might have a ‘Bible study’ with someone, and attempt to guide that person in understanding, but it is not our words that have any power to save the lost, it is the power of God’s Word.
…………………………….
“And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: [5] That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” (1 Cor 2:4-5, boldface emphasis mine)
.
And again:
“But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. [12] For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 1:11-12, boldface emphasis mine)
.
And here:
“For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.” (1 Thessalonians 2:13, boldface emphasis mine)
.
Here:
“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.” (1 Cor 1:17, boldface emphasis mine)
.
And again here:
“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. [21] For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:20-21, boldface emphasis mine)
.
In summary:
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” (Romans 15:4)
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12, NKJV)

rayzorbak

Amen…….
OOps…. I did it again!

churchmouse

‘I am like most never memorized Bible verses but I am very familiar with the Bible.’ I am bewildered, as you have mentioned more than once that you are/were an elder in your church.
If you cannot cite at least specific books and chapters, how can you prove the **eternal truth** of Holy Scripture to others?
Don’t get me wrong. I really enjoy your comments not only here, but also from the old days at CTH (despite the spelling errors).
That said, believers have to be able to explain Christianity to others by chapter and verse (an older equivalent of today’s ‘Photo, or it didn’t happen’).

rayzorbak

We are commanded to:
Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
So that is what I do (among other things 🙂 )

Gudthots

After having to self-edit my true heart as one who belongs to Jesus for most of my adult life in order to get along. After finding my true self only allowed in a smaller and smaller space. Your suggestion does not feel like liberty.
Wolf’s Q Tree has been the first generic online space that has not banished my heart to a small ghetto to the side of the main topics.
Of my own free will I have been creating breakout topics for more faith-centric current events. Which feels like liberty to me.
For this I am grateful.

Gudthots

Also, I would caution that anyone that pressures another person to modify their natural language and self-expression in order to keep that person from walking away is committing emotional blackmail to some degree or another.

Johnny

Thumbs up!

churchmouse

This x1000! Thank you, T3.
Yes, ’emotional blackmail’ — censorship — provides self comfort, a security blanket.
We have a lot of atheistic/agnostic pressure in Europe of this kind.

Understood, but being a Christian is part of who many of us are. It’s not the kind of thing you can just ‘turn off’, and even if we could, it’s the opposite of what we are supposed to do:
…………………………
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. [15] Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. [16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
…………………………
.
“Y’all may or may not have noticed but I haven’t been here as much lately and this is why. I pick up a LOT of vibes of virtue signalling and “Holier Than Thou” attitudes.”
__________________
It is not an easy thing to discern another’s motives, even in person. It is much harder in a written format, without the ability to see and process non-verbal cues, tonal inflections, etc.
It may be that someone has a ‘holier than thou’ attitude, or it may not be the case at all. But almost certainly, if someone is looking to be offended, that will bias them to ‘interpret’ in a negative light.
And understandably, it is difficult to be on guard against leaping to such conclusions, if our outlook is already predisposed toward the negative.
Personally, I am glad that you are here and posting regularly, and I hope that continues. However, I don’t understand how effectively ‘muzzling’ ourselves would be a good thing for anyone. Isn’t vigorous engagement the better answer, almost always?
.
“I exposed a lot of info about myself personally within the last couple of weeks and have noticed a decided drop in interactions after that.”

” Hmmm….judgmental much? TBH, I never understood the complaints from atheists about not being included or recognized – now I do!”
__________________
I was not raised in a church-going family, and did not even begin to search for the Lord until I was in my late 30s. I was not a Christian for most of my life, but I don’t recall anything about not being included or recognized by those who were Christians.
Maybe it was happening, but I wasn’t even aware?
Seems unlikely though, many of my close friends were regular church-goers (mostly Roman Catholics, now that I think about it), and I never experienced anything negative because I wasn’t a Christian.
I wasn’t opposed to Christianity in any way, my grandparents attended church every Sunday, I just didn’t know much about any of it, because I wasn’t raised that way. I wish I had learned sooner. So many mistakes I might not have made…
.
“IMO,the Bible was written by men,”
__________________
Opinions are excellent, even more so when backed with solid reasoning. To the best of my knowledge, the only thing in this world that was ever written by God Himself is the Commandments given to Moses on Mount Sinai:
……………………….
“And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.” (Exodus 31:18)
And again, here:
“And the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.” (Deuteronomy 9:10)
……………………….
The books, letters and epistles collected together into one volume generally called the Bible were written (physically) by men. But the men who wrote God’s Word were not writing their own thoughts or concepts, they were “inspired” by God, and the underlying original Greek word for ‘inspiration’ (theopneustos) means ‘God-breathed’:
…………………..
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” (2 Timothy 3:16)
………………….
Strong’s Definitions
θεόπνευστος
theópneustos, theh-op’-nyoo-stos; from G2316 and a presumed derivative of G4154; divinely breathed in:—given by inspiration of God.
The men God chose as vessels to write His Word often make it clear that it is not their own words that they write, but the very Word of God, see Galatians 1:11-12, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Peter 1:20-21, et al.
.
“…therefore, it is NOT literal –
_______________
Certainly parts of it (many parts) are literal, and some parts are figurative, just like most other books. Some parts are parables. Some are proverbs, some parts are psalms.
How can we know which is which?
The same way we know when we read any other book, i.e., by context.
.
“…it is a collection of stories and legends passed down verbally through the generations.”
__________________
Do you have a source for that?
Because all of the books of the New Testament were completed by the end of the 1st century, and nearly the entire New Testament can be pieced together from quotes in the letters written by early Christians, so I don’t think the source for what you said there can withstand critical scrutiny.
.
“I did some deep research into the origins of the Bible and this is the conclusion I have reached.”

What are the sources which pointed you in this direction? If it is a large number, which are the highlights, the most important? Do you have links?

“I also no longer believe in prayer and I do not believe God “watches over everyone.” WE are in charge of our lives, and NO-ONE else! And NO, I DO NOT WANT TO DISCUSS IT!”
________________
Whoops… too late 😁
I didn’t get to that part until just now.
I reply to most posts in the same way, paragraph by paragraph or line by line. I respond to each new thought or idea in the same why I would in a dynamic verbal discussion.
But really, how can we not discuss it, when your entire post was discussing it?
If I had made such a critical decision in my life, I would want to be sure my decision was right, and discussion would certainly be a part of it, if for no other reason than recognizing that I don’t know what I don’t know.

churchmouse

Brilliant response, Scott — many thanks.

rayzorbak

It is “Brilliant”…
Because it is the TRUTH

scott467

Thank you for the encouragement churchmouse!
The questions NP raises are of course very good ones, questions which I needed answers for myself, early on. Questions about translation(s), confidence in the authenticity of the Scriptures, who (or Who) the Author of Scripture really is (man or God), etc.
These are fantastic subjects, going straight to the core of what we believe and why. If you want to wrestle with something, these questions are great ones, and my confidence has only grown stronger whenever I investigate these subjects further.
The Scriptures have been attacked by every generation, almost certainly from the time they were written down. People much smarter and more intelligent than I have exhausted themselves in the attempt to tear down God’s Word. And yet the Scriptures remain unbroken.
What other written work has been subjected to such severe scrutiny, for so long, by so many, and withstood it all?
Nothing else even comes close.
It’s really quite amazing, if you stop to think about it.
It reminds me of a poem about broken hammers and an anvil I read years ago. I was pretty sure it must be well known, so I didn’t have any trouble finding it again just now:
……………………………………………
The Anvil — God’s Word
by John Clifford
LAST EVE I passed beside a blacksmith’s door,
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;
Then, looking in, I saw upon the floor
Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.
“How many anvils have you had, ” said I,
“To wear and batter all these hammers so? ”
“Just one, ” said he, and then, with twinkling eye,
“The anvil wears the hammers out, you know. ”
And so, thought I, the anvil of God’s Word,
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;
Yet, though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The anvil is unharmed — the hammers gone.

One guy leaves for philosophical reasons and now a couple of others are starting to talk about censoring religious POVs??
What the Sam Hill is going on?
I’ll expound on what is happening.
Read the Book of Acts.
Every time there was a pure, loving, giving new church (e.g. in Jerusalem, to cite one example early on), not long after, there was ALWAYS negativity and opposition (to put it mildly).
I certainly am not calling us a ‘church’, so don’t take me literally — but note the pattern to a good, loving, supportive community.

HONEST discussion is NOT considered “fighting” in my book.
Notice that I said “My Book”

INTERESTING ETYMOLOGY that falls into the “Stuff you might not know” category and I received from NOT AN EXPERT in the field..
Did you know the saying “God willing and the Creek don’t rise” was in reference to the Creek Indians and not a body of water? It was written by Benjamin Hawkins in the late 18th century. He was a politician and Indian diplomat. While in the south, Hawkins was requested by the President of the U.S. to return to Washington. In his response, he was said to write, “God willing and the Creek don’t rise.” Because he capitalized the word “Creek” it is deduced that he was referring to the Creek Indian tribe and not a body of water.
***
In George Washington’s days, there were no cameras. One’s image was either sculpted or painted. Some paintings of Washington showed him standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back while others showed both legs and both arms. Prices charged by painters were not based on how many people were to be painted, but by how many limbs were to be painted. Arms and legs re ‘limbs,’ therefore painting them would cost the buyer more. Hence the expression, ‘Okay, but it’ll cost you an arm and a leg.’ Artists know hands and arms are more difficult to paint.
***
Common entertainment included playing cards. However, there was a tax levied when purchasing playing cards but only applicable to the ‘Ace of Spades.’ To avoid paying the tax, people would purchase 51 cards instead. Yet, since most games require 52 cards, these people were thought to be stupid or dumb because they weren’t ‘playing with a full deck.’
***
Early politicians required feedback from the public to determine what the people considered important. Since there were no telephones, TV’s or radios, the politicians sent their assistants to local taverns, pubs and bars. They were told to ‘go sip some Ale and listen to people’s conversations and political concerns. Many assistants were dispatched at different times. ‘You go sip here’ and ‘You go sip there.’ The two words ‘go sip’ were eventually combined when referring to the local opinion and, thus we have the term ‘gossip.’
***
At local taverns, pubs, and bars, people drank from pint and quart-sized containers. A bar maid’s job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was drinking in ‘pints’ and who was drinking in ‘quarts,’ hence the phrase ‘minding your ‘P’s and Q’s’.

judyw

And it follows the “old is new” pattern we see in so many places these days…

omg..I felt like something wasn’t right about that… some announcement today from HPD

para59r

Oh my goodness, real investigative reporting? Not knocking it, wants more of it. Thanks for following this, I did want to hear how it all came out given the last reports. As I remember the couple had been married quite a many years, were stable in their life style, he was an ex marine, they had neighbors that couldn’t believe they were involved in selling drugs. Also the police came in on a no knock warrant out of uniform and shot the dog first. That and there was no black tar heroin found at the scene.

Molly Pitcher

This quote is from yesterday so the announcement might not explain anything. Maybe it’s one of those pressers that reiterate what’s known ?
http://www.fox26houston.com/news/hpou-narcotics-officer-relieved-of-duty-during-investigation-into-shooting-case
The Houston Police Officer’s Union released this statement:
“Rumors continue to spread around the shooting last month on Harding Street where 5 police officers were injured and 2 suspects died. To be clear, officers were not on the wrong street and entry at that location was not made at random. We would refer you to the call slip from that location on January 8th, over 2 weeks prior to the shooting.

Remember the Pro/con Sessions battles that led to the ‘take your ‘Q’ posts elsewhere , We don’t want to read that stuff here on CTH’ which led to the banning of ‘Q’ discussion altogether which led to many of us being banned OT!
This warning is not directed to Wolf but to the entire commenting community here on the Q Tree. Once we start declaring what each wants to read or not to read, begins the ‘slippery slope’ process of slowly stifling Free Though and Speech. It becomes a subconscious governor on what we might say in order to avoid offending someone. Does anybody here who supports our President really think he gave any thought about who was offending by his infanticide or socialist comment during the SOTU. Hell no, that’s one of the reason why we love him.
We should all be tolerant and respectful of each other; i.e. no personal insults.
BUT (that’s a big but) also be absolutely free to express a thought or opinion based on our education, background, upbringing, genetics, environment, experience, etc because that is what makes each one of us unique. It ultimately makes each one of us better person. That’s all I have to say, got it off my chest!
Thanks for reading !

sanctuary | Definition of sanctuary in English by Oxford Dictionaries

Definition of sanctuary – refuge or safety from pursuit, persecution, or other danger, a nature reserve, a holy place; a temple.

Translation: OUT OF MANY, ONE.

Elizabeth Carter

Steve, I really like it here because it has been uncensored discussion. I consider it a “sounding board” and not an echo chamber. If we can’t defend our position, we need to go study some more.
As each of us contributes, some will find mind changing information and grow. Others will just skip what they don’t like and enjoy what they can or move somewhere else.
One of the things that puzzles me is that so many of our commenters here were on CTH. They say sundance is a Christian. I have never seen anything there that indicates that sundance is Christian. Once he said that he was posing some Catholic things because _____ is Christian and he did not want anyone insulting her. That is not the same as saying that he is a Christian. He may have said so somewhere but I never saw that. If you did, I would be curious to see it. His solutions to everything always seem to me to be worldly and never Godly. I like his articles, still go to linked videos and enjoy some of the comments.
I think it is a mistake to censor this site to silence Christians. We finally have a President who is standing up for America and for Christians. If people don’t like it, there are thousands of other sites that don’t like Christians they can use.
Thanks for posting your comment.

Steve in Lewes

Elizabeth, I have never seen/read anything about SD indicating what you elude to. As a matter of fact, I don’t really pay any attention if and when people express their ‘religious’ views, I put that in my ‘computer (brain)’ only as a marker to use in understanding their position or comment.
I don’t evaluate them on their religion or lack thereof. I have known ‘very religious’ people who practice what they preach and those that are the antithesis of what they preach. I have known secular folks who are absolutely wonderful and caring people and those who are not. I practice the Golden Rule. Most people I can read on my first impression; if that isn’t is a bad impression, I’m always willing to give a second chance…..we all make mistakes once in a while, even me (hehehehe)!
As a 64 yo trained and experienced engineer, I make judgements based on what people do, generally, what they say I hold in reservation. Hypocrites are people I don’t have any use for; therefore Dems and NeverTrumpers are people I don’t trust just…period !

churchmouse

CTH has the Open Thread which always begins with the Lord’s Prayer.
SD is an old-school Christian. He could be a Catholic, since Menagerie gets her posts according to the Church calendar and always vaunts Catholicism over other Christian denominations. Yes, I will await Catholics saying that Roman Catholicism is not one of many denominations, but the true Church.
‘I think it is a mistake to censor this site to silence Christians. We finally have a President who is standing up for America and for Christians. If people don’t like it, there are thousands of other sites that don’t like Christians they can use.’ Thank you x1000. Oh, the irony of it all.

holley100

In complete agreement. Keep the open in open.

wheatietoo

“…be absolutely free to express a thought or opinion…”
______
There is only One category that we should self-censor ourselves on.
And that is…posting things that could get Wolf’s site shut down:
— Threats against elected officials or celebrities.
— Threats against law enforcement.
— Threats to blow up buildings or kill the people we don’t like.
In other words…death threats.
WP has recently shut down some other WP blogs, blogs which were run by conservatives.
WP could do the same with this one.
Let’s not give them a reason to.
Even though we get frustrated and furious about what is going on…and what the evil Left is trying to do to our President and our country…we have to exercise restraint about saying What We’d Like To Do about it.

Gudthots

And no doxxing. Even if you feel secure in yourself or have no malice towards the person you reveal personal facts about. We live in a time where personal details are used as weapons.

Sylvia Avery

“Threats to blow up buildings or kill the people we don’t like.”
Teeth grinding. This is the hardest. But I agree completely.

Wise words !
Yes, yes and yes..:)

Cuppa Covfefe

Good points. Someone mentioned above about a possible “splitter strategy”, and Sessions/Q (at least in my mind) is what went a long way in weakening the OT. A swap or muzzling of the arborist may also have been involved…
Things seem to be heating up (that zerohedge article almost makes me ill, including the comments). Seems to resemble the “Left Behind” movies (at least the original series)… Geesh…

SingularZoe

Cuppa, tried to read one of the Left Behind books once, not because I thought I’d like them, but so I could have an informed opinion, but I couldn’t stand them, and the characters were so Hollywood and cardboard, not like any real Christian I have ever known or would want to know, not at all believable to me, plus the whole plot was silly.

Gudthots

A teacher I know once pointed out that the book the late great planet earth + left behind mentality was when the Christians as a group began to check out from being the salt and the light in our nation. An interesting thought.

Cuppa Covfefe

The problem with the “Left Behind” novels (and I bought the whole sets in both English and German, and tossed them both – a few hundred Euros shot there) is that they effectively violate the command/admonition of Revelation 22:18-19, to neither add nor subtract from the words in the Bible (and the NIV has also been guilty there of late).
They also (like Big Idea’s (Veggie Tales) disaster “Jonah”) add characters and situations out of dramatic necessity that just don’t belong. Which, I think led to their failures, as it were.
Having said that, I was speaking of the first films, which didn’t exactly follow the books, and were highly dramatic, if not always believable. The globalists, i.e. Satan Inc. ARE here and now, and hell-bent, as it were, on creating a one-world government. CNN becomes GNN (Global News Network), for example. Not far from what we have now.
That is the extent and the limit of my metaphorical reference to Left Behind… I wouldn’t blame the books or the film for causing or enabling apostasy. That started a century earlier, with Fosdick and Rockefeller, and the German skeptics before them…

SingularZoe

Great comments, Cuppa. By the way, love to read Charles Spurgeon on the down-grade.

Is shocking. I am so sick of this. She was with her ‘teenage daughter during the incident. Her daughter filmed part of the altercation on her phone.’
Would love to see a photo but I can already guess.
And she’s pleading not guilty to the attack.
Her lawyer, William Alden McDaniel Jr., told CNN Inabinett was only exercising her First Amendment right to express her opinion when she grabbed Kellyanne Conway, shook her and screamed in her face.

Hollywood is FANTASY… of course they love the idea of “Green Energy” as posited by AOC…

There are a few (very few) people in Hollywood (wherever that IS) who can actually articulate a thought without a script… but they are not ‘heard’ over the din of those asleep in their fantasies.

It’s so iornic (hat tip to Jose Baez) that the self aggrandizing Dems who dare to make blanket statements about the education level of Deplorables don’t take notice that probably a HUGE percentage of “stars” and singers and comedians most likely never went to college. Almost time for The Quiet Man.

Alison

Me too, Phoenix! We watch all the brit shows (mostly crime detective) on Acorn & Britbox made between 1990s and 2010. Anything after 2010 is SJW just like U.S. tv.
What makes those Brit shows so exceptional? First, they don’t all have straight, white teeth and botoxed faces, so their “warts ‘n all” features give reality to their characters. Second, they are trained to act. Many were trained in the theater, and the acting quality is vastly superior because of it.

wheatietoo

By the way the Greens made great progress in Germany and they are just as loony. This is the fringe of society and when we put that in perspective one can deal with it. They are dangerous and can do much damage they did in Germany and you have the sudo Intellectuals who believe that they are so cool and above the working-class comprehension. Yes, these ideas come out of some US and European Universities.

LOL I can’t blame him. It really boggles the mind. How on earth can anyone think this is a good idea. Hey at least he rolls him eyes. My Mom just laughs whenever I bring it up.
He worked in Aero Space for 26 years never could tell me on what.—– Ahhh yes. They use to recruit aeronautical engineers from Germany back in the day.
Your right I totally forgot about the German Greens.

Cuppa Covfefe

Yep. The mess they’ve made of Germany (and it goes back wayyyyy before Trittin and his paedo colleagues, indeed it goes back before the Nazis and their Satanic earth-worshipping cults).
Edeka/Marktkauf (HUGE grocery-store chain) are all-in for “Demeter” farming and food. Never mind (they say) that it’s “gependelt” (crystal “spelled”) and “sacrificed to a foreign god”. And THEY (greens and Edeka, etc.) are also pro-Moslem, and tied into that. Strange cooperation between the left, the greens, and the Moslems. Something doesn’t fit, there…
The evil alliances on the left are just starting to be uncovered. Look at http://www.jungefreiheit.de to see what’s going on. Depraved travesty doesn’t even come close to explaining it.
And with the “planned” exit from coal in 2038, the forced abandonment of diesel (ironically based on faulty science from Øbozo’s EPA!!!), coupled with the shutdown of all nuclear reactors (for fear of a tsunami in Germany!!!!!), Germany is headed for a bleak (and FREEZING) future unless the AfD and common sense take hold. Please pray for our elections this year in the Neue Bundesländer (states from the former DDR).
Would be ironic if the globalists don’t believe in “climate change” any more than we do, and that they also see that we’re headed for MAJOR cooling (the sun is less active that it’s been in over 200 years). Indeed that they know all this, caused fuel prices to go up, and up, and up, and up, and will reap the benefits when temperatures plunge around 2030 or a few years prior…

SingularZoe

Burrr. Cuppa, how long is this lowered sun activity going to continue? I hate cold and cloudy weather.

SingularZoe

Good point, Wolf. Well, I’d like to find out who I can sue, because they promised me global warming, and look what we got instead. Lol, joking about suing, of course.

Cuppa Covfefe

And France followed suit, to the point that their nuclear-fueled electricity is used to power ELECTRIC heating (we use gas, oil, wood, or, rarely, coal here). And France’s electricity rates are ONE THIRD of ours, which are the highest in Europe and almost the highest in the world.
Not to worry, though, not to be outdone by Marxist Merde-kel, Mad Macaroon is going to shut off their reactors, too…
Merde-kel never was a Christian Democrac. She is neither Christian, nor Democrat, rather she’s a green (she was energy ministerin before). Indeed, she’s not even a true green: she’s a Watermelon, green on the outside, and RED on the inside. With the bulk being RED.
Sort of like occasional Cortex…

Has Milspec’s thread been discussed and I missed it?
More to come…

Tonawanda

1) Having been a member of many sites for many years, I have seen many dramatic goodbyes. I have not seen one yet which did not strike me as (at least) faintly ridiculous. Maybe I am just a cold-hearted b@st@rd.
2) The Fond Farewells always seem unwarranted and an emotional indulgence, like Huck Finn attending his own funeral.
3) It is a peculiar sort of “relationship” a poster builds with other posters while posting on a site, if it is a relationship at all.
4) Just my opinion, but I believe there is more information and sense of a person which could be gleaned by being in their presence for an hour, than by reading 5000 of their posts. Again JMO, but I believe that most of us would not be at all like the picture people drew in their heads based on posts alone.
5) Sometimes when a poster gets into an extended dispute with another poster and gets no support from other posters while his posterior is getting kicked around, there are residual hurt feelings, resentments.
6) I have to say the reasons Steve gave did not match up with anything I ever saw. He was held in high esteem and praised quite often. I have never seen anyone try to convert anyone else, nor have I seen anyone attacked on that basis.
7) Inclusio unius est exclusio alterious. Steve was praised and got so much positive attention, it occurred to me that some posters could very well have felt left out and isolated. That is the “danger” of saying “I love A, B, C and D.” What about E?
8) I am NOT saying Steve did not deserve the praise and attention, he surely did. I just note the irony: his tone versus the reality of his “position” within the blog.
9) People are concerned about the safety of POTUS and the fate of America. The Christian response is to pray, and to give mutual encouragement.
10) And there is very little space on the internet where one can speak openly as a Christian in a political context.
11) It’s the exclusive job of the Holy Spirit to “convert” people, so we don’t have to worry about that part.
12) There is more I could say about the particulars, but it would be pointless.
13) No one is asking my advice, but here it is anyway. If you are going to “leave” a blog based on grievances and perceived slights, just leave. If you are leaving because you are going to die in two weeks, ask for people’s prayers and tell them how much you enjoyed their “company.”

“11) It’s the exclusive job of the Holy Spirit to “convert” people, so we don’t have to worry about that part.”
_______________
Tonawanda, not sure I understand that part.
I agree that it is the power of God’s Word to convert, but are we not to do our part?
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. [14] How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? [15] And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:13-15, KJV)
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” (1 Peter 3:15)
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” (2 Timothy 4:2)
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” (1 Cor 1:18)
“For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” (1 Cor 1:21)

Whitaker: “As an American citizen I am very concerned”.
_______________
Well that’s lovely.
As American citizens, we’re ALL concerned.
But there’s something different about you, something different between you and us.
Now what could it be…
I know!
You’re the Attorney General of the United States, and we aren’t!
That means unlike us, you are in a position to ACT on that concern.
In fact, you have an OBLIGATION to do so.
How is it possible that Whitaker was allowed to get away with the answer he gave?

scott467

Congress doesn’t have to pass any new law against MURDER.
The Laws against MURDER have been on the books since before America was discovered.
Long before.
Thousands of years before.
You have democrats talking publicly about MURDERING American citizens AFTER they are born, AFTER they come out of the womb.
We don’t need any new laws from Criminalgress to address that, Mr. Whitaker.
In your capacity as acting AG, you can and should make it clear in no uncertain terms that if anyone murders an American citizen, or ANY human being in the United States, that person will be held accountable to the Law.
Why is this like pulling teeth?

Truth.

Sylvia Avery

Hey Wolfie, speaking of Communist Media. I have to mention something to you. The History Channel (which 20 years ago was awesome and then I think got bought out by a bunch of Commies or something) has a new series called Project Blue Book.
It is like a period X Files. Kind of. Except that the events are based on true situations that were covered by Project Blue Book which I assumed you are familiar with.
I’ve always loved SciFi, and as a nerdy little girl with large glasses I discovered a paperback copy of Project Blue Book on my uncle’s bookshelf. I read it because it promised to tell the truth about UFOs.
Well, that was probably in the late 1960s or early 70s and there’s been a lot of water under the bridge since then. But I thought back to a thread you had up here where we were discussing alien life possibility and the cover up by the government, etc. And I seem to remember as part of the discussion a sort of general, “Oh my gosh how will people react” sort of thing.
And along comes this bit of …television entertainment.

Sylvia Avery

I myself have no clue. What is apparent is there has been layers of disinformation and lying and cover up. I just don’t know what has been covered up and am not really sure I want to know.
But I am learning to sniff out suspicious stuff in the atmosphere and not just ignore it, and the timing of this TV series seemed rather convenient. It has gotten some buzz because some good actors were cast and it has an interesting Cold War tie in naturally because of the era.

Sylvia Avery

What an interesting theory. I suspect you are correct. I think PDJT is too much a patriot to countenance demo’ing the system and starting over. He’d want to save it, fix it, refurbish it lovingly. Sort of like what he did to the old Post Office in DC.
I consider myself a Patriot, too, but probably most of you can tell patience isn’t one of my virtues. I’d be whacking the system to smithereens by now out of sheer anger and frustration.
I keep seeing glimpses and catching whiffs of things going on that I would have either not noticed before or ignored. Now I stop to look and wonder a bit. I think there is a whole lot going on under the surface that we just don’t really see yet or quite understand what it is that we are seeing.
I do not for a minute believe that all of the peculiar dramas (and I include Roger Stone’s arrest in this pot) that we have seen unfold in the last couple months are bizarre coincidences and unusual circumstances and the most gosh darn peculiar by products of whatever.
I’m not smart enough and I can’t see the whole patterns and connect all the dots but I can see enough to tell there are things going on that are meaningful and important.
It frustrates the heck out of me almost daily, but for now it has to be enough to see this activity and know there is much behind this that we don’t know and can’t know.
And if there is finally some white hat propaganda emerging all I can say is hallelujah and thank heavens. We could use some. The black hats have had it all their way for entirely too long.
<3 you Wolfie.

wheatietoo

Yeah, History Channel is now owned by Disney and Hearst Corp…in a 50-50 joint ownership.
It used to be great though.
Now it is laced with leftist indoctrination BS.
I have wondered if that new show, ‘Project Blue Book’. is any good.
Have you watched it, Syl?

Sylvia Avery

Yes I have. So far Project Blue Book is pretty good, which has left me kind of surprised and waiting for the big reveal of some kind of SJW nastiness. But that hasn’t happened yet.
I’m kind of a sucker for period drama. I love to look at the old fashions in clothing and home decor and stuff like that.
I couldn’t recall who had bought the History Channel but it made me sad because it sure changed after that happened. Like so much else it became unwatchable.

wheatietoo

Thanks, Syl…I’ll check it out.
I enjoy period settings too, the fashions and old classic cars.
I think A&E bought History Channel first…then A&E got bought by TimeWarner, then they sold it off to it’s present owners.

wheatietoo

Did you see the articles out this week about Netflix paying Zero Taxes?
Yeah.
They love them some Dem politicians who want to tax us to death.
But then…they avail themselves of every loophole and tax avoidance maneuver…and Pay Zero Taxes!

I think it was wheatietoo who put up url to Steve’s blog, in response to a request from someone.
Went over and checked it out. Most articles are on religion.
He has a list of archived articles… alphabetically, so “Abortion” is listed at the top.
According to his view, abortion is definitely not murder… there is no ‘person’. There is “a fertilized egg” – a zygote.
I refuse to make a judgment about his views or ‘analyze’ why he left. My first comment was to Marica on yesterday’s daily thread, immediately after his Fare Well article was posted. In essence I commented that I felt he was very uncomfortable here, and that being the case. his decision to leave was a healthy one.
And I want to be clear about my reasons for this post. Some here are feeling very guilty about his departure, thinking it was the exchange about ‘infanticide’. I don’t believe that at all.
I believe the reasons were as he stated in his final post… he was not comfortable here.
There is too much ‘discomfort’ in the world. Wherever possible, it is healthy for us mentally to avoid interactions which cause us to be uncomfortable.
Here is link to his article for those who might wish to read.

Yes, indeed. Steve’s disagreement with the term “infanticide” is now clearer.
The left’s push to legalise late term abortion and to also refuse to endorse the protection of a baby’s life after a failed abortion is obviously a step so far over the line that Steve could see the writing on the wall for Roe V Wade.
He appears to have attempted to defend the indefensible in order to preserve an “ideal” – one that simply could not be sustained by logic. Logic being his thing, he exited stage left …

The whole ‘global-warming-no-wait-it’s-climate-change’ is a scheme to Redistribute Wealth…from the middle class of Western countries, to the coffers of SoComs.
Under the guise of ‘helping developing countries’ the SoComs in charge of UN programs, and other aid agencies…would be in charge of those funds.
It’s funny how they never seem to do any good, though.
Thank God our VSG President saw right through their Paris Climate Accord scam!

Cuppa Covfefe

Even Rājendra “Pachy” Pachauri, from the UN IPCC, admitted as much (that it was a weatlh redistribution scheme), but the YSM,as could be expected) buried it…Ironically he’s in trouble for sexual misconduct… what IS it with these libtard perverts?
James Delingpole has been exposing this scam since the days of “Climategate 1” and “Climategate 2”, both of whiich were leaks from a programmer there who “couldn’t take it anymore”, and was disgusted about having to massage the data to get it to fit their expected results. Steve Goddard (aka Tony Heller) said that you could put ANY data into their models, and the same “hockey stick” would come out as a result. UEA (uni East Anglia), “the State Penn”, and other prosti- institutions claimed it was a hack. NO, it wasn”t, it was a leak. (Gee, where have I heard that excuse before? Anyone remember Hill-the-BEAST and Seth Rich?).
There was a third tranch of even more damning emails and exchanges, which was released in a passworded .zip file to (IIRC) 12 people; or maybe the file was released openly, but the passwords were sent to those 12. In any case, they were strongarmed into not releasing any more mails, data, or info.
This, and the tale of “Harry Readme” is on WUWT, Climate Audit, and probably a few other climate sites (including those of the warmunists, from an obviously hostile viewpoint, though). It’s been a while (2009?) though. The Manniac has had Mark Steyn tied up in court (DC circuit, I think) (but they’re anything but straight) since then…
Yet another case of the USA and “the West” has to bail out the less fortunate, erm, pay off the warlords and terrorists, who do the gloalists’ dirty deeds…

Johnny

page 5 is a chart that will show in billion$ how much we have sent over to africa. Current population there is 1.3 billion. Where’s the progress?

Cuppa Covfefe

There’s the fellow with the gumball analogy who explains BRILLIANTLY why sending money to the third world will do utterly nothing to help them, but everything to ruin us. It is financially impossible to improve the third world’s lot without teaching them to help themselves; i.e. it’s not just a financial problem, it’s a cultural problem. And both the warlords and the globalists want them poor, and want US poor, too.
It’s the old “give a man a fish” versus “teach a man to fish” problem. And so long as you only give a man a fish, you have HIM on the hook, forever…

JasonD

There is nothing “Green” about this “new deal”, not even the packaging (ref watermelon analogy), so we should call it what it is, the “Red Commie Con”.
Increasing atmospheric CO2 is stimulating plant growth, especially noticeable in arid areas. So any policies limiting increase in atmospheric CO2 is the antithesis of “green”. This is a statement of verifiable fact.
Furthermore, the alternative (to combustion of fossil fuels) generating systems being proposed, largely “renewable” energy systems, are typically being sited in rural environs, leading to an industrialisation of nature (or rural landscapes, if you prefer). Again, nothing “green” about the solutions being promoted.
So those who question the motives behind this “Con” would have sound reasons so doing …

Cuppa Covfefe

Yep. I used to travel around Europe all the time on business (driving), and in Holland they had these GINORMOUS greenhouses. When they weren’t shoving manure, etc., by the ton into them, they were pumping them full of CO², something on the order of 1200-1400ppm. And yep, people could work in that concentration. There are places on the web that sell the CO² injection kit, and they have great explanations of what the benefits are (of course some of that is marketing spiel, but still)…
