Does God speak in a gentle, quiet voice?
There is only one place in Scripture where God is said to speak in a “still small voice,” and it was to Elijah after his dramatic victory over the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:20-40; 19:12). Told that Jezebel, the wife of Ahab, king of Israel, was seeking kill him, Elijah ran into the wilderness and collapsed in exhaustion. God sent an angel with food and water to strengthen him, told him to rest, and then sent him to Horeb.
In a cave there, Elijah voices his complaint that all of God’s prophets had been killed by Jezebel and he alone had survived.
God instructed him to stand on the mountain in His presence. Then the Lord sent a mighty wind which broke the rocks in pieces; then He sent an earthquake and a fire, but His voice was in none of them. After all that, the Lord spoke to Elijah in the still small voice, or “gentle whisper.”
The point of God speaking in the still small voice was to show Elijah that the work of God need not always be accompanied by dramatic revelation or manifestations. Divine silence does not necessarily mean divine inactivity. Zechariah 4:6 tells us that God’s work is “not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” meaning that overt displays of power are not necessary for God to work.
Because He is God, He is not confined to a single manner of communicating with His people. Elsewhere in Scripture, He is said to communicate through a whirlwind (Job 38:1), to announce His presence by an earthquake (Exodus 19:18), and to speak in a voice that sounds like thunder (1 Samuel 2:10; Job 37:2; Psalm 104:7; John 12:29). In Psalm 77:18 His voice is compared to both thunder and a whirlwind. And in Revelation 4:5, we’re told that lightning and thunder proceed from the throne in heaven.
Nor is God limited to natural phenomena when He speaks. All through Scripture, He speaks through His prophets over and over. The common thread in all the prophets is the phrase, “Thus says the Lord.” He speaks through the writers of Scripture.
Most graciously, however, He speaks through His Son, the Lord Jesus. The writer to the Hebrews opens his letter with this truth: “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world” (Hebrews 1:1–2).
The difference between God speaking through the thunder and the whirlwind, than through the still, small voice, can be also considered as showing the difference between the two dispensations of law and grace. The law is a voice of terrible words and was given amidst a tempest of wind, thunder, and lightning, attended by an earthquake (Hebrews 12:18–24), but the gospel is a gentle voice of love, grace, and mercy, of peace, pardon, righteousness, and the free gift of salvation through Christ. The law breaks the rocky hearts of men in pieces, shakes their consciences, and fills their minds with a sense of God’s fiery wrath and the punishment they deserve, and then the gospel speaks gently to them of the peace and pardon available in Christ.
It is less important how God speaks to us than what we do with what He says. God speaks most clearly to us in this day through His Word. The more we learn it, the more ready we will be to recognize His voice when He speaks, and the more likely we are to obey what we hear.

SO – one final point – these people CANNOT be trusted to RESPECT HERD IMMUNITY – meaning even if people with prior, unknowing exposure to the virus are AT RISK with the vaccine, the MEDICAL MAFIA will push it ANYWAY.
Trump is going to need to find experts (as in several BACKUPS for Dr. Atlas, who Fauci will TAKE DOWN, MAFIA-STYLE, TRUST ME, WITH A CUNNING BACK-STAB) who will back him up on voluntary vaccine, and no pressure for people who MIGHT have immune enhancement reactions to the vaccine, to take the vaccine.
Trump is definitely pushing “high risk first”, which is very smart. He’s already getting us to “spread the spectrum” on who takes the vaccine when.
One argument I make is NO CHANGE IN FLU STATUS, and this stuff is less of a priority than the flu, other than risk to the elderly.

I have become excited about reshaping my overall disposition lately. That I’m shoving my kid into a Christian college in lieu of 12th grade has forced me into Bible Study!
We have always prayed at least a couple of times each day, but neither of us really knows the Bible.
It does not good to put a 5 year old in algebra class; he/she must be started on basic math and built up in foundation. Algebra is taught when the person is CAPABLE of receiving & using it.
Psalms are almost universally understood, and like any book the first chapter (Genesis) is the best place to start. Whatever you do, don’t rush it. God will reveal to you as you become stronger.

I don’t consider 2016 to have been a landslide (no true landslide can turn on the votes of 100,000 people in three states), though it will hopefully in the fullness of time be looked back on as a watershed (it will depend on Trump’s *lasting* effect, which in turn depends on whether he can drain the swamp). I’d say it can’t be a landslide without at least 400 EVs.
There are landslides and there are total avalanches like 1972 and 1984.
As I simply cannot see him winning CA, NY, MA even if the election there is fair (! OK stop laughing now), that puts a hard upper limit on his electoral vote count somewhere below 450.
All that being said I expect him to do better in 2020 than in 2016. It’s just a question of how much better.

Also there are other places to buy besides Amazon. Often you can buy direct. So if there is a product you want, talk directly to the manufacturer.

Oh, I DID tell a local business, the pet store, how I felt, in writing, because she was such a mask Nazi I couldn’t go in the store to see her. You know what I got? A call from the police! She had gotten an earlier, anonymous letter, and accused me of writing that one, too! I told the cop in no uncertain terms that I didn’t write the anonymous letter, that I didn’t write anything wrong. I am now under a “no trespass” order from the police, so even if I wanted to, I couldn’t go to the pet store. See why I would sooner order a dog collar from Amazon?

I have told some of the people I’ve been dealing with since we moved here 14 years ago why I will not use their services as long as I’m required to wear a mask to walk a few feet from my car to the door. I feel it’s an insult to me…someone that is known to them, supported them and followed to new locations, etc…definitely not someone walking in from the street. The ironic part, these are not necessity services but rather luxury ones and most of these people are barely financially surviving…BUT, they are definite Karens, the radio is always turned in to NPR so they are good little soldiers.
One of the women I’ve helped quite a bit throughout the years started referring to POTUS as “45”, refusing to say Trump’s name. I quickly put a stop to that and told her I was very, very close to walking out if that continued, and she backed own.
I know someone who makes dog collars and leashes to order. One person business.

Just thought of a couple of things. One, probably obvious, is they are singing without vibrato, which makes for a clear, bell-like tone, and enables harmonies to be absolutely on pitch. The second, is more of a musico-philosophical observation, in that the British “allow” the sound/playing to flow outward, rather than “pushing” (too strong of a word) it. I experienced that in some chamber music groups in England. It sounds almost too subtle to make a difference (typically Brit 🙂 ), but no, it did make things different…
We’d have some interesting, erm, discussions down the pub afterwards as to which was correct 😀

Thank you for your lead this morning. It was meant that I read it today. I don’t believe in coincidence.
Today I hear the gentle, quiet voice of the Almighty God speaking through my little Yorkie, Sona. Sona is on my lap right now, quietly resting.
He knows that he is at the end of his journey on this earth. But he is still offering the silent companionship that only dogs can, to his sad human parent.
He’s very sick and in kidney failure. He’s weak and doesn’t want to eat.
Yesterday at his exam, the vet said, “It’s time.”
So I arranged for Sona to be put to sleep here at home tomorrow. He and I have one more day together,
Sona is walking his final path quietly, gallantly, and with graceful courage.
During the past three years that he’s been fighting serious illness, I have learned so much from him.
I owe Sona (and his deceased litter mate, AJ) debts that can never be repaid or forgotten.
Sona and AJ were there for me when my husband was so ill, and after he passed away.
Sona and AJ are part of my heart and spirit, as I am part of theirs.
I know that the Almighty God will take Sona to join AJ; and that He will send comfort and peace to me.
But it’s still heartrending.
Those who have lost a beloved animal companion know how I feel.
After I grieve for my Sona, there will be another dog in my life.
But there will never be another Sona or another AJ.
Words do not adequately convey my feelings for you and your dog at this moment. I have been where you are now. I would like to offer you these connected thoughts to combat the pain…
1. God loves you and I so very much he embraced all humility, came down off his heavenly throne, took on the flesh of man, and descended into our world…KNOWING he would suffer the most horrific death known to man.
2. Love such as this has the deepest desires to see those whom it loves be happy, fulfilled, and content.
3. This same love created your beloved Sona and set Sona aside JUST FOR YOU.
4. This same love knows all too well how much you and Sona love one another. That was part of his plan!
5. This same love knows that one of your deepest desires of happiness is to be reunited with your beloved Sona, forever enjoying the bond between you. And you are not alone. All of us who share the bonds of love for our beloved animals feel the same. All of us would take joy and delight in seeing you reunited with Sona!
6. See #2 above.
7. This same love holds the same feelings for all his creations. He takes note of when the smallest sparrow falls.
8. This same love has promised, “Behold! I make all things new.”
9. What loving father, who has such power, would fail to reunite the child he died for with their beloved animal companions….knowing that doing so would:
– Bring inexpressible joy and happiness to his children
– Would honor and celebrate the bonds of love
– Would serve to bring honor and glory to his throne
10. Rest assured, then, that our heavenly father will see to it that we will all be reunited with the animal members of our respective families. He knows how much we love them, because he created us…and them…in love…to love and be loved. We can be 100% confident that anything having to do with a love this pure and good most definitely WILL be a part of the life to come.
And this means you will most definitely see Sona again, only the next time it will be permanent and forever. You will never again suffer this loss between you.
So…this is not good bye. This is only “see you later”. And remember, parting is necessary so that we may experience the joys and happiness of reuniting later. The pain you experience now is going to be the fuel of your joy in the time to come.
And all of this is to God’s great glory….and to his honor…and for his delight in seeing his son’s and daughter’s unbounded joy and happiness…

Which, by definition, undeniably and unquestionably includes your beloved Sona.

I am so sorry to hear that. And you are correct they are all unique. We have lost many pets over the years and it is heartrending but it never stopped us from getting another.
There is a special dog out there waiting for you. Not to take the place of Sona or AJ, but to be their own special self.
I figure If I do get to heaven I will probably be run over given the number of special equines and dogs and cats and sheep and goats I have had the honor of knowing.

Yang will be 13 on Tuesday, and Ying 14 in December. Neither is close to ready, but Yang is slowing down considerably with diabetes. Sux. He’s such a good dog.
Our Sargie has had gastric issues since we got him at 7 (they said). Had to have a bladder stone removed first thing. Just old and weak, with a heart murmur and thickened intestines. Can’t see or hear either. Not much appetite at all. But he’s a sweetie and we have a sunroom with pads where he can hang out, cat bro and sis are always around. It’s just bad.
Yeah, that’s the thing…so long as they can walk and take care of business without being held up…. Yang has something other than diabetes going on and I told the vet, he’s 12, let’s just keep him comfortable. We’ll let you know when it’s time. Havanese are usually 15-17 year dogs. Ying might make it that long.
And the next dog is going to have ears that point straight up.
My Peri is ten and she developed a growth that is quickly growing. Had her at the vet its not cancer and will be removed in a couple of weeks. The growth is bothering her that she does not want to take walks any longer. I look at quality of life for her I owe it to her.
I am sorry when a pet is at his hers end of life and it is a relief fo the old or sick animal and we grief.
The picture of my handle that is Peri seems like I took it yesterday but it is from three years ago.
It’s a rough time. Been there. Our T, the yellow lab, was 14. On Christmas Eve the appointment was made. She went over the Rainbow Bridge on the 26th. At that point, it was kidney failure on top of colon cancer.
It was a rough 48 hours. My complete sympathies.

16,747 vote-by-mail ballots were received, but only 13,557 votes were counted. More than 3,190 votes, 19% of the total ballots cast, were disqualified by the board of elections. Due to the pandemic, Paterson’s election was done through vote-by-mail. Community organizations, such as the city’s NAACP chapter, are calling for the entire election to be invalidated….
Over 800 ballots in Paterson were invalidated for appearing in mailboxes improperly bundled together – including a one mailbox where hundreds of ballots were in a single packet. The bundles were turned over to law enforcement to investigate potential criminal activity related to the collection of the ballots.
The board of elections disqualified another 2,300 ballots after concluding that the signatures on them did not match the signatures on voter records.
Reporting by NBC further uncovered citizens of Paterson who are listed as having voted, but who told the news outlet they never received a ballot and did not vote. One woman, Ramona Javier, after being shown the list of people on her block who allegedly voted, told the outlet she knew of eight family members and neighbors who were wrongly listed. “We did not receive vote-by-mail ballots and thus we did not vote,” she said. “This is corruption. This is fraud.”
There were multiple reports that large numbers of mail-in ballots were left on the lobby floors of apartment buildings and not delivered to residents’ individual mailboxes, further casting doubt on the integrity of the election….

You may have meant that snidely, but I had to wonder. His last name is in the form of the patronymic. E.g., Mikhail Sergeivich Gorbachev. That “middle name” is actually a patronymic, “son of Sergei.” Russians will often address each other by first name and patronymic even in formal circumstances.
(I know sometimes Americans use the father’s first name as the middle name of their sons and mothers for daughters, and others use a grandparent’s name, but it’s not invariably the case. I know someone who had two middle names and that *really* confused a lot of the Russians he interacted with.)
So I was wondering if -vich in a surname was maybe Ukrainian or Belorussian, but apparently not; this guy was born in Moscow. I guess some Russians ended up with some old patronymic as their surname.

Perfect for a Sunday afternoon –
There’s quite a number of wild rabbits that inhabit our area. If you’ve landscaped with the right bushes, they’re no problem. If not, well . . . rabbits need to eat, too, y’know.
Anyway, we saw 2 or 3 in our back yard . . . it’s xeriscaped, so there’s not a lot of pickings for them. Well, we like the bunnies, so I’ve put some rabbit pellets, water and, every now and then, some piles of dried alfalfa out for them in our brick floored, covered, but open patio in back.
We’ll get 1-3 rabbits from just after dawn for a couple of hours and also in the evening. They don’t come by to nibble and drink during the day.
We have identified at least two regulars. One by a notch in the ear and another by the fact that the rabbit will rest for a bit, even sleep, under our patio table.
Today e noticed a rabbit came by about 11am, munched a bit and then went under a large Ferox Agave plant we have under a tree and nestled by a large landscape rock.
I had recently given away more than a dozen Agave pups and had moved some of the 3-5” landscape rocks out of the way so I could dig out the pups. Well, the rabbit went to that area behind the rock and under the agave and dug there for about an hour.
Then the rabbit settled in.
We have a perfect view of the rabbit, tucked under the Agave, just lounging around and dozing at times. Then, at about 1:30pm, it wandered over to the food and water, had lunch, and then went right back to lounging in the newly constructed depression in the dirt under the Agave.
It’ll be from 108˚ – 112˚F every day now for over a week. I expect the rabbit will appreciate the shade, the protected quiet, and the availability of food and water.
Perfect. Rabbit watching on a Sunday afternoon.
DW mentioned that a “regular” rabbit has a small notch in the ear and an “occasional” rabbit has a large notch. Well, our new homebody is the large notch rabbit.

I hope and pray something can be done about this, lady – while a store owner can set the conditions under which patrons can shop in his/her establishment – if there was nothing POSTED that said – ignoring restrictions will get you removed and/or arrested – then, it is an unlawful arrest.
