Hung Cao, the former refugee who is Trump’s new acting navy secretary
Vietnam-born Cao stood twice for federal office in Virginia and has called for upgrading of fleet to face new threats
The acting navy secretary, Hung Cao, who steps into the role after the sudden departure of John Phelan, is a veteran naval officer and former refugee who earned a position with the Trump administration with campaigns for political office in Virginia marked by religious intolerance.
When Cao was first appointed, the defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, set him to modernizing base infrastructure and quality-of-life issues for sailors and marines, and to raise recruiting standards. Cao has also been a point person in the administration on permitting vaccine refusal and eliminating “DEI” policies in the military.
He has been sharply outspoken about the military’s recruiting practices, saying in a debate with Tim Kaine when he ran against him for Senate in 2024 that the military should be recruiting “alpha males and alpha females who are going to rip out their own guts, eat them, and ask for seconds”.
At his confirmation hearing, Cao described an aircraft carrier as “99,000 tons of American diplomacy” but noted that the availability of ships hovered at about 60%, which he described as “horrid” readiness.
Asked about his views on how to either use the existing fleet or to transition to a new paradigm for naval warfare, Cao said the military was living each day like it was 10 September 2001, and that the country must accelerate shipbuilding while improving technology so that it can defeat hypersonic missiles and other threats.
“We need to rethink naval warfare,” Cao said last June. “We need to be ready for what happens tomorrow.”
Cao ran twice for federal office as a Republican candidate in Virginia, falling to US representative Jennifer Wexton in a House race in Virginia’s northern suburbs in 2022, then to Senator Tim Kaine in 2024.
Cao’s comments in an interview about Monterey being taken over by “witches” and a joke about being “African American” because he lived in Africa as a child became a campaign issue. Cao expressed support for a national abortion ban as a candidate.
Cao, 55, fled Vietnam with his family when he was four. He lived in Niger as a child while his father worked for USAID. Cao enlisted in the navy in 1989 before graduating from the US Naval Academy and earning a commission as a special operations officer.
He served on active duty as a diver and explosive ordnance technician with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, notably leading the team that recovered the body of John F Kennedy Jr off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard.
Cao was section head for the budget programming division in the office of the chief of naval operations before retiring as a captain in 2021. He has a master’s degree in applied physics from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, and completed fellowships at MIT and Harvard.
“I came to this country with nothing, as a refugee,” Cao said in response to a question during his confirmation hearing as undersecretary of the navy. “We grew up in Africa, actually. In 1979, when the shah of Iran was overthrown, the marines brought us into the embassy and stood watch over us in case they had to do an evacuation … I wanted to be like those heroes, so I have dedicated my entire life to serving the military.” (Bold mine.)

During the 1970s Arab Oil Embargo Australia had rationing, but due to domestic “work actions” (strikes) by oil workers. The country was nearly self sufficient in oil and oil products then.
Fast forward to now: All the “lessons learned” have been discarded, all but 2 refineries closed in favor of Asian ones (and one of those two just had a major fire…), and the crude oil supply is disrupted by a war.

So no big deal there. No spoilage. It’ll get used, Nothing tossed.

My youngest son’s MIL is from Mexico, former illegal who used to swim the Rio Grande for work leaving her kids w/ her mom in Mexico. She’s legal now, married an American, & most of her kids are in the US now too; son’s wife was born here. At the wedding reception the MC she hired was Mexican & most of what went over the mic was in Spanish. She’s definitely part of some type of Mexican sub-culture here & I would Guess that at least some of her associates are illegal, though I’ve never asked.
Ironically in a recent phone call she was railing about illegals committing fraud & stealing from Americans. I didn’t bring the topic up & didn’t perpetuate that part of the conversation (we were discussing family prayer needs) but I thought it was rather ironic given her background. 🙂

Update on my dad.
Biopsy results are back & the tumor is cancerous. SIL is trying to get him in earlier for the Oncology visit but right now that & the MRI w/ & w/out contrast (for the brain at least, not sure if they’ll add on scanning for possible metastasizing cancer evidence) are scheduled for early-mid May. His primary care doc called to talk w/ Dad, bro, & SIL about the situation & is very concerned about putting such an elderly man (87 on May 12) through treatment &/or surgical options. After Oncology visit likely there will be a family discussion about how best to proceed. I’ve got Linda’s IVM, FenBen, & Supplements info in the back pocket to mix in when the time comes too. There is some type of natural practitioner that is getting involved too, lots of moving parts.
Dad’s had a busy couple of days. He was visited by a couple widower friends from his long time prayer group. He was taken by SIL to his church for Thursday morning services (this is about 1 1/2 hours from bro’s house) & they had lunch out w/ my son Brandon on the way back & B said that “Grandpa was pretty much like his old self” thankfully. Either SIL, aide, or church friends who live near-ish bro’s place will take Dad to Sunday &/or Thursday services if he’s up to it. He enjoys the fellowship as he’s a bit of a people person but is also worn out by it.
Apparently Dad is in reasonably good spirits. He is also worn out by interactions with others & doesn’t want phone calls or many questions. I think he’s been sleeping a bit better so not pacing around so much at night nor up as often for the bathroom. I don’t think there have been nighttime accidents but bro wasn’t completely sure as he & SIL are so busy handling things that they haven’t had time to communicate. She had been “steam-cleaning bedroom carpet daily” before.
I’ve been researching Adult Day Care in their area, per SIL request, as that might be a somewhat less expensive avenue than Aides in the home. There is a program relatively nearby that’s run by Catholic Charities & they have availability MWF currently. SIL will need to set up an intake interview to see if this might work for all, & this could happen as early as next week. There is an income based sliding fee scale & requirement to have him there a minimum of 4 hours at a time & try to operate on a set schedule so we’ll see.
Thanks for thinking of us or praying for us as things are in process. My bro from OK is supposed to visit on Mother’s Day Weekend & we have an extended family gathering planned at little bro’s house on that Saturday. I hope to bring my dad Up North to the family Cottage for the Memorial Day time frame so he can visit w/ his sister who comes up then as well as enjoy being at The Cottage but those potential plans pend many things…
My daughter & I went by Dad’s house the other day to water plants, deal with some food related tasks, & to put out new “Sidewalk Angels” Bible verses. We didn’t have an encounter with anyone this time but still God’s Word will not return void. God Bless All!

I hope everyone will think carefully and not too emotionally about what comes next for your Dad. I agree with his primary care doctor; treatment for cancer for an 87 year old man is a rough go. Modern medicine seems to only consider keeping someone alive for as long as possible. It doesn’t seem to consider the quality of the life remaining.
Whatever you all decide, I wish you peace. It’s never easy, but God will be there to help.

I’m thinking that this cancer has been growing for more than a year based on some swallowing issues that got brought up in discussions but neither myself nor little bro had been aware of the issue as Dad didn’t mention it nor act troubled when eating around any of us…sigh…
I was hoping Less Invasive surgery, like endoscopic surgery, to excise the tumor, might be on the table so that the recovery could be “easier”. Given Dad’s increased confusion at night (possibly Sundowner’s) any overnight treatment might be even more highly upsetting than just living with it until he dies…sigh…
IMO, the Sundowner’s is a minor issue compared with the life-and-death problem of cancer. If he could physically handle surgery, I think the Sundowner’s could be dealt with.
But you and your family and doctors know his condition and his wishes. I pray for him and for you all as you make difficult decisions regarding his health. 🙏

I have known of a couple of men who had surgery in their 90s. Of course every patient’s health condition has to be considered, but that is the point: consider the patient, not just the age number.
I’ve had the same perplexity as you express at the attitudes about PSA levels (re: prostate cancer). Some medical professionals have thought that, at a certain age, the patient is going to die of something else anyway, so don’t treat the cancer. But it’s not “one size fits all,” and sometimes you have to fight for the patient.

I’m sorry to hear about the cancer diagnosis. I agree that IVM + Fenben + vitamins may be able to make a positive difference, and that a natural practitioner (a naturopath?) may get involved, but there are also many other pieces in play.
I can testify that my late husband — at the age of 93 — was put a low dose of oral chemo (not IV dose) when his prostate cancer re-emerged. Surgery for someone that age was out of the question. The oncologist he worked with ALSO put my husband on a regimen of mega-doses of vitamin C and vitamin D; metformin; resveratrol; diet changes; and other things. He was on this regimen for over 10 years: he took his final dose of the oral chemo the week before he passed away at age 107. I can also testify that my husband had an what he called “an iron will.” He was determined to get the PSA score down and keep it down, and he did.
But people are all different. I can understand that your father may not want to go that type of route that my husband did.
Quality of life is so important. That was my job. I did everything I could — car trips, walks (as long as my husband could do so), our Yorkies (he loved them), visits from friends, positive atmosphere, adult daycare, kept up his piano lessons, private-duty aides, etc., etc.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

The government just changed the rules for public housing. Now, everyone living in a house that receives taxpayer help must prove they are a U.S. citizen or legally present. No more letting illegal immigrants live there for free with their families.
This means millions of American citizens who are waiting on long lists for cheap housing can finally have a better chance. Taxpayer money will go to legal residents rather than to people who aren’t supposed to be here.

It’s going to be too late, and I think that is the goal. By the time there would be enough sentiment to consider removing him, there would be all kinds of complications with the process itself, and it would take forever. It would be “too close to the midterms to have such a big upset in Congress.” I know there is a handful of Congresspeople who are trying very hard to get SAVE passed, but they are swimming upstream without a paddle. I hope there are other options to save the midterms, because if Dems take either or both houses, the MAGA agenda is dead in the water and we will be dealing with (IMO) criminal uses of lawfare to target people who have only been doing their jobs and upholding the law, and unending efforts to impeach Pres. Look at the self-satisfied smirk on Thune’s face. He knows what the game’s endgoals are—and he’s part and parcel of the plan to get them:
One: stall the SAVE Act until it’s too late to make any difference in the midterm elections.
Two: stand by and watch the DemCommunists retake the House in the midterm elections.
Three: have the groundwork laid in the Senate to convict POTUS47 Trump when the DemCommunists go through with their plan to file articles of impeachment against President the day after they win the midterm elections. (And the impeachment articles may include VP Vance, among other current administration officials.)
I had a conversation this week that was absolutely surreal. It was a demonstration of brainwashing like nothing I’ve ever experienced.
To preface the convo, here are a few facts about the person I was talking to. She is a staunch Conservative Republican, a volunteer for her local party office. She is anti-Covid vaxx, and now all vaccines, mostly, so much so that she engages people she doesn’t know about not taking them. She is and has been a vocal Trump supporter. She lives in a community with all older people, and says a lot of them are dying because of the clot-shot, turbo cancers and such. Her husband was a chiropractor until he retired. She worked in his office. She knows medical terminology.
Her husband is struggling with diabetes, which developed in the last several years. He had a heart attack about 8 years ago. The doctors have him on statins because of the heart attack, and diabetic meds more recently.
I found information and a study (which I think I posted here?) about how much life expectancy is added by taking statin drugs. I found another study about statins CAUSING diabetes in one-in-a-hundred people who take them.
My conversation:
Me: I sent you this study, did you see it? It was a huge study in South Korea. The scientists found that in people who took statins preventatively, the gain in life expectancy was only THREE DAYS! And in people who took them after a heart attack, the gain was only FOUR DAYS!
Her: He’s just having such a hard time. The diabetes meds make him feel terrible.
Me: The FDA added a warning to statins in 2012, that they can cause diabetes! I sent that study, did you see it?
Her: I checked my fridge and pantry. There’s just nothing in there that has sugar. He doesn’t eat anything bad at all.
Me: !!! Statins can cause diabetes!!! AND, the study showed that they only increased people’s life by three or four DAYS! He’s taking a medicine that the only difference it makes is between dying on Tuesday or Friday of the same week!!! There’s almost ZERO benefit in life span from taking the statins!!!
Her: He never has sugar. We don’t eat bread. I just don’t understand it.
Me: STATINS CAN CAUSE DIABETES AND THEY DON’T INCREASE YOUR LIFESPAN!!! DID YOU READ THE INFORMATION I SENT?
Her: Yes, I read it. I never buy snacks anymore, but his blood sugar numbers just won’t come down. I just don’t know what to do.
Me: ???? !!!!! ????
I gave up. She literally COULD NOT hear me, absorb the information I sent (which was in plain layman’s English), or read the studies that backed up the layman’s language. And this is an anti-vaxx, Conservative, reasonably intelligent woman, with some medical experience. It’s not like she heard me and disputed what I was saying, or had some argument against the information; she literally COULD NOT HEAR IT.
This is why I don’t try so hard with people anymore about any of it. The brainwashing is too strong.

Pretty much the same. I just pray for the Lord to open their eyes, ears and minds. Then leave it all up to His will.
It was frustrating just reading that. Of course I don’t know her situation, but I think that for some, having to challenge the medical establishment and have difficult conversations with doctors is so intimidating that they can’t bring themselves to consider it. It would take a paradigm shift that they can’t face in their own minds, with the added challenge of having to be knowledgeable enough to talk with doctors. So they tune everything out and refuse to take any action or responsibility, and people suffer, and sometimes die, as a consequence.
Again, I don’t know the situation and can’t judge her thoughts, but from what you wrote, her ignoring your statements comes across as very rude. She appears to not even have the courage to be honest with you and say she read the information but has chosen not to consider it. My impression is that she is too scared to do anything, even just talk, but of course I could be off base.
I don’t know. This woman considers me to be one of her closest friends. She is outspoken generally. I think you may be onto something with the fear thing. It was just crazy to me.
The AMA has a large and detailed “library” of articles for members about “how to talk to the patient” to “convince” him/her to get “vaccinated”, to take statins, etc., etc. The techniques used include gaslighting, fear, “I have a family history of [fill in the blank disease] too, and this medicine helped them”, etc.
They try that with me and I give them the STARE (aka stink eye)… and they quit.
I had all the worst sideffects from Statins when I tried them.
Now it’s in my records Alleric to Statins, they don’t ask anymore.

Same here. For years running, at my annual physicals, they would look at my cholesterol levels, and say I need a statin.
So I would take the statin prescribed, suffer a list of side effects, doc would then tell me to quit taking it.
Then I would go through this whole routine again, with a different statin at a future annual.
And, then, 20 years ago, three days after starting the latest statin prescription…I had a seizure. The only only I’ve ever had before or since.
Back to the Doctor, and his reaction was…okay, I’m putting in your chart that you are never to take statins again. Funny. He acted like this was no big deal – like “shrug” this is normal.
Sorry for the length, but I have to share the “rest of the story.”
So, after 15 year or so of all these high cholesterol readings, someone decides I must have really clogged arteries, and they order a series of heart tests/exams. They could not believe it when, at my age then of around 76, the tests all showed that I had totally clean, clear arteries.
So much for bad cholesterol and good statins.

Last year I had to have a full heart work up. Everything was clean as a whistle……..
Eating dairy products regularly, eggs everyday and beef 3-4 times a week.
Statins damage the Mitochondria… and often have bad interactions with other meds…
They try it with me and I hit them with facts like the above. My doctor won’t even try me anymore. I was emailing her scientific papers during the Covid nonsense. I think I scare her a little.
I have a new doctor. I laid out WHY I thought I had Conn syndrome (a non-cancerous tumor on an adrenal gland) He said it was very unlikely and my coming up with it, if true was one for the record books. So he ordered the blood test and it suggests I have Conn syndrome. 😂😂
I guess he is not used to someone doing their own analysis. 😂
Now I have to go for further tests.
Meanwhile he wanted me to take something for high blood pressure. I looked it up and it is a HELL NO! I will stick with restricting salt and taking potassium, garlic & beet root.
You might try hawthorn. It is the best thing I know for the cardiovascular system.

Years before COVID, I forget what vaccine a doctor wanted me to get (maybe pneumonia?). I got the story about how everyone getting vaccinated will save the lives of others, and how a baby had recently died of whooping cough, supposedly because some people were not vaccinating their kids. (Maybe the baby’s parents had not allowed vaccines; can’t remember). Anyway, it was the guilt trip offense. I just said no.
Ermmmmm, when I go to a doctor, etc., the life I’m interested in saving is my own. Not that I want other people to suffer, but if a vaccine or med works, it’s for the person being treated.
Typical deep-state, libturd, Pantyfa, Satanic left: claiming to do something out of (Christian) Charity, but only doing it to line their pockets.
Times were that many of the medical institutions out there were funded/operated by the various churches. Alas, no more… indeed, not in the last 50-60 years or so…

The destruction of beauty that we have seen over my life time was INTENTIONAL. From the dull colors of cars to the UGLY DRAB apartment buildings & Condos I see springing up all over the place, to the horrible music with nasty lyrics. IT is ALL about making people depressed.

Noticed over the years coming back to the US that cars only come in whitish, dark, and maybe a red here and there. Acres of new boxy housing, only in shades between black and brown (beiges, tans, grays, etc). Wondered if they passed a law or something forbidding any other colors or designs. As for music, didnt hear much of new stuff in SE Asia, they preferred karaoke – can’t sing along with most of the new stuff 😂

Something is spreading like wild fire on X right now, and I find it horrifying, upsetting, and disheartening.
Piers Morgan had Russell Brand on his show. Russell has said he converted to Christianity, and he wrote a book called How to Become a Christian in Seven Days.
Piers asked him about bringing his Bible into court. He is being charged with a variety of sexual offenses, I believe. Piers asked him which verses particularly were relevant to his bringing the Bible to court.
Russell struggled for minutes to find the verse he wanted. It was in Isaiah, apparently. But Piers just smirked and watched. And people on X are having a field day judging Russell Brand, claiming he hasn’t “really” converted, that he should know his Bible if he’s going to write a book about how to become a Christian, and on and on.
I’ll tell you this; those people are far braver than I, to judge Russell’s heart for Jesus. We will be judged as we judge others, and I sure don’t want God to look ME in the eye and say “I have some doubts about the sincerity of your faith; you need to prove it to Me.”
People like this drive people away from Christianity. They are committing a terrible wrong.
And I have news for the ones who say that you can’t become a Christian in seven days, and Russell was wrong. I guess in a way Russell was wrong. It doesn’t take seven days, or even seven minutes. How fast can you say:
I believe Jesus was the Son of God, who was crucified, died, and was buried. He was resurrected on the third day. He did this for the remission of our sins. I repent all my sins, and I welcome Jesus into my heart.
I’ll bet a person could say it in seven seconds.
The life that comes after is for all the changes to take place, not before. I can’t cite chapter and verse on much, but I read the Bible every day. And I am a different person now, and more different every day.
I don’t know if Russell Brand is a Christian. I know he says he is, and I have the sense not to judge him. Only God knows the heart of all of us.
