Hubby here. We use Ubuntu Linux. I backed up all the files from her /home/gail directory in preparation for a clean installation of 22.04.2 LTS, going up from old 19.04. In restoring the saved files I neglected to restore .config, but I have just now done that. Perhaps it’ll work. I’ll need to exit the Brave browser and restart it to find out.
That sounds right, including .config having all the good stuff, including bookmarks, saved passwords, etc.
The only thing I would add is that you have to use the same basic version of the Brave browser, to pick up all the config stuff. The beta and the nightly (alpha) versions store their stuff in different files from the regular Brave, and even worse, they don’t offer import between types. The only easy way to import (and only bookmarks) is to export bookmarks to a flat html file first, and then import it into the other browser.
All that said, restoring hidden files has ALWAYS worked like a charm for me with Ubuntu, to recover bookmarks, etc.
You did help me. I suggested Hubby get on this computer and then he remembered he had saved my book marks. So he just installed them.
You’ve checked and they’re functional?
I shut down brave (I think) but not functional. I may have to completely shut down the computer.
I will have to ask Hubby. He is outside again.
Are you running the same browser on the new system? Did he save the old data? If so, you may be able to restore bookmarks.
Same browser (Brave) he installed a new version of Ubunto.
He needs to find where Brave stashes its bookmarks and make sure that gets copied from old to new.
Mind you, he could probably get it to carry forward your open tabs if he were to work at it.

Saving like a nuclear weapon, in hopes I never need this one.
Just about any program at schools is needed more than administration. We used to call that “overhead,” and it used to be embarrassing.
But yes the music programs were kinda special. If they supported football, they would get funding – but then the band would become its own monster organization existing for its own purpose, which I think was winning competitions, not so much teaching students music.
No, the fact is, no matter how you slice it, public education ruins everything it touches. Leviathon must fall.
Winning competitions does teach music. If you’re striving to win, you’re going to practice more.
Part of it is also the parents. Some push more than others.
In all the years that Yours Truly was involved in music, not many people made the connection that studying music can help things like math concepts, concentration and focus, and fine-motor skills. But studying music does all that, and more.
I realized that . Specially my high active kid who had trouble concentrating the music worked wonders for him. All three my kids loved music but then in our house we always had music.
Music helps kids focus and improve math. They also have a group to belong too.
My kids were all in Marching Band . I agree with you fully 🙂

I doubt that Ron and Nikki are directly coordinating this but it does smell like a GOPe setup job – probably to get a big payoff from Disney to S. Carolina to boost Nikki and get more cash in the CoC trunk.
So why aren’t the Dem’s doing or saying anything about it? It could be they are happy to let the GOPe fight it out because they have a pinky-swear agreement with the groomers that no matter what happens, the gravy train will keep flowing. Could also be the Dems think the narrative of a “fake culture war” will enrage and embolden their (shrinking) base of T/LGB with some slogans and virtue signalling about “human rights”.
The whole thing stinks, but the bright spot in this mess is that Disney seems to be losing in this fight.

Yours Truly: In addition to acetaminophen (Paracetamol) being available by itself as either an OTC or via prescription (in certain strengths and formulations), the drug is also an ingredient of many other types of medicines, such as DayQuil Cough, Cold and Flu (and the generic forms of same.)
I think Cthulhu periodically reminds us about the dangers of Tylenol.
When introduced as an Over-The-Counter (no prescription) drug, acetaminophen had the smallest difference between Clinical Dose (when it does something) and LD-50 (Lethal Dose 50% — the amount at which it kills half of those taking it) of ANY OTC drug. Every year, acetaminophen overdose kills roughly a thousand people (after hospitalizing roughly 20,000). It has been the number one or number two cause of acute liver failure in the US and the UK for decades.
And it is very easy to double-up on it. It is found in all sorts of places — there’s even an acetaminophen solution in which to soak pacifiers to soothe teething infants.
IMHO, it being OTC is prima facie evidence of regulatory capture and shows the FDA has been corrupt since the 1960’s.
I feel like preaching to the choir, here — but if anyone is unconvinced or has any questions or wants citations, just let me know. Acetaminophen is a wildly dangerous drug that gets thrown around like it’s harmless. If you OD on aspirin, you get a stomach ulcer that can be reversed; if you OD on Tylenol, you get in line for an immediate liver transplant or face death.

I saw something like the one on the left in a museum once. There were several pieces, much bigger than those, that were solid blocks of color. One was yellow and one was blue. Not a speck of anything else on the canvas. Boring, and not art.

A lot of modern so-called “art” is basically decoration…a fairly pleasing pattern of colors, but that’s it…certainly not worth four, much less seven, figures. And a lot is just flat out ugly and disgusting too.
I did gradient walls in my bedroom once, from pale sky blue at the bottom to deep aubergine on the ceiling. It took a long time to get it right, but it was like sleeping outdoors under a night sky.
I can see it being restful and peaceful to be sleeping in deep twilight, but the giant eggplant hovering overhead could be a bit nerve-wracking….

Good, we were trying to figure out what constituted a “failed search” yesterday and this sheds more light on it. Our worst fears realized. Searches they had no right or justification to be doing yet well over a million were conducted.
These searches may lay under the screen of secrecy but they are not anonymously done. Someone put down their name when they were done. Someone is on the blame line and whomever those people are need to be held to account. Just following orders isn’t going to work either. Whose orders? Who wanted the search to be done? Who recieved the information from the searches? What was done with that information? Did someone who was searched have an adverse inexplicable event happened because of it? Business fall out or Black Mail? All questions that must be pursued.
Without rule of law, how will any answers ever be obtained?
This is outright tyranny.

When I looked at the list, I thought that about 1/3 deserved it; another third was “hmmmm…..”; and the last third seemed speculative.
Short of Smiths, Wally World, HD, Lowes, I’m rarely in a brick and mortar store.
CVS and Rite-Aid surprised me.
No use for the others, except I hate to see folks out of work.
I really, really hate going to Best Buy for anything other than a simple part like a cable (and will only do that if I need the cable right NOW).
Best Buy employees are evidently taught to make up an answer to a question rather than admit ignorance…because they do that without fail. In other words, they’re trained to lie.
We have a local store, Central Computer, that I would use for such — https://www.centralcomputer.com/ — I can walk there.
Best Buy suffers from a horrific lack of focus. As such, I wouldn’t go there for anything.
I don’t have that luxury. The nearest place like that is a Microcenter in Denver. I do go there from time to time, in fact the little box I run Qubes on is from that store.
I really wish CompUSA hadn’t folded; they at least had a local store.
….and they were focused on computers. Best Buy has all sorts of stuff like radar detectors, DVDs, clothes washing machines, and cellphones, with shallow inventory of each.
Oddly, Frys (which I know of from trips but was never in Colorado) also had tons of non-computer stuff. They got away with it because they were so doggone big the computer area by itself was the size of a Best Buy.
You could tell when Fry’s was circling the drain because the latter stuff overwhelmed the stores — they even had a section of “As Seen On TV”.
I remember going in one time and they were pulling a bunch of motherboards off display. I asked, and was told, “oh, Intel and AMD are introducing new processor sockets….”
Last time I went tumbleweeds were going down the aisles. Somehow I found the keyboard I wanted and got out. Sad day.
The original Fry’s Electronics was an outgrowth of Fry’s Supermarkets, a local chain. The elders couldn’t get the younger generation excited about meats and produce and baked goods…..one of the sons (Randy?) was talking to a friend of his and realized that electronic components had the same problems as cucumbers — some went bad before you could sell them.
They opened a small store off of Lawrence Expressway and it started making more money than the significantly larger grocery stores. I used to go there often — they’d have tubes of IC’s in display baskets borrowed from bulk tomatoes.
Soon, they were flying high and expanding a bunch of new stores with serious theming. The Sunnyvale store crossed Lawrence and the building became a giant chip — the inside had flooring of circuit-board green with yellow traces and scaled resistors and capacitors sticking out of the floor.
Fremont was space; Palo Alto was the Wild West; Campbell was ancient Egypt; there was an Alice-in-Wonderland in SoCal; San Jose got a Mayan temple…..
Sunnyvale Mark III was all about Silicon Valley discoveries; Fremont Mark III was (IIRC) the French World’s Fair. When we had visitors from England come by, we’d take them to Fry’s. If something was on sale for 300 pounds on High Street in the UK, you could buy it for $300 at Fry’s (when the pound was almost $2) — or maybe better on sale.
And, then, the stores filled up with non-technology crud and they all went foom.
I haven’t shopped at Best Buy for computer parts except an occasional cable, but I had an excellent experience related to an appliance recently. I had done lots of research and knew what I wanted and what I didn’t want, and was helped by a middle-aged man who had worked in the department for years and knew his stuff. He showed me how the companies change their prices often, almost weekly, and when the best times are to buy. Customer service was excellent, both because of that one guy and because Best Buy works with the customer’s needs (at least in my case). I had also seen reviews of Best Buy customer service being superior to Home Depot. I imagine the staff of the computer parts area is younger with a lot of turnover.
Specifically, I figured 8 and 14 were useless house-brands of Amazon and Walmart, respectively; everyone knows 3 is doomed — they should have stuck with MyPillow; 6 and 11 cater to customers unwilling to pay high-end rents; and 13 has long been rumored as some sort of money-laundering scam. We’ve been talking about Best Buy, #10.
I wouldn’t know 12 or 15 if they bit me on the behind.
Numbers 1, 4, and 5 seem like scrappers — they’re low-overhead and willing to buy low and sell high whatever it takes. I wouldn’t count them completely out, even if the outlet closest to you closes.
Which leaves 2, 7, and 9 — and we’ll see how that goes.
