Anyhow, not that I’m counting, mind you.
Now that I really listen to my senator bashing the airline guys, not giving them a chance to talk, as I understand it – and I had to pay extra on Air Lingus, RyanAir, and other airlines decades ago – it has to do with weight and fuel. More weight, it takes more fuel to take off and land. That’s why there are weight restrictions on luggage. Relatives of mine for whom I was dog sitting…the bathroom scale was on the kitchen floor as they weighed their bags to be sure they were underweight. It was quite the scene watching them rearrange suitcases to get them all under the limit. Of course, one was going to be gone for two months, so he had a lot of stuff, but still….
I had a multiple-hour wait between flights at Denver one time (or maybe I was leaving from there in the first place and got there early and/or my flight was delayed; I can’t remember), and at the next gate was a regional jet bound for Edmonton.
The problem was, it was overweight. They needed seven passengers to get off; they offered all sorts of inducements. (How the heck the airline misjudged it by that much in selling tickets, I don’t know.)
Six did get off the plane, but they couldn’t get a seventh passenger to bite.
Quite some later the plane still hadn’t moved. Eventually an airport official came by and ordered the plane to push back from the gate, at least, whether or not it could take off; the airport needed the gate freed up.
I have no idea what happened after that; my flight boarded and left.
I’d be tempted to deboard some luggage.
Pack light. Seriously. I’ve learned to do it.
Likewise, on my last two trips overseas I had verysmall luggage.
European domestic luggage restrictions are much more onerous than ours.
I may have mentioned this before, but I’ve gotten The Fiancee addicted to “subvacations” (it goes with my fixation on electrical subpanels). You travel all the way to London, and since you’re there you can zip up to Edinburgh; you go to Las Vegas, and you bag out for Bryce Canyon; you go to Atlanta, you can zip up to Tennessee….
Whenever we do anything in Europe, we tend to make it a subvacation of a trip to London. That way you get all your jetlag out of the way and change your money and get your phone working and all that in a place that is low-stress where you speak the language.
A big fly in this ointment, however, is the luggage restrictions of which you speak. Flying into London with [for instance] 50 kilos of luggage and finding out you can only take 40 kilos onward is a huge pain.
50 kilos = 110 pounds.
40 kilos = 88 pounds.
That is still a LOT of weight to man handle thru airports. I do not know if that is for one or two people.
For back packing as a lady, 40 lbs was the goal BTW so I instinctively travel light. (Cut 1/2 the handle off the tooth brush…)

I did have fun when flying home from the UK to the USA. I was NOT going to check my EXPENSIVE backpack, so I carried it on…. Filled with my very large puffy down jacket. Of course I got stopped. So I told the stewardess to just wait.
I took out my jacket, placed the backpack on the bottom of the compartment, where it fit very nicely and then used my jacket as a pillow after stuffing it in it’s sack. She just shook her head and grinned.
I’ve been back and forth across oceans enough to tell you that the very best experience was with TWA on a 747. Both are gone.
I really liked Lufthansa. Good service and decent food.
They bumped my brother and his son for not checking in as soon as they could. Not flying them anytime soon.
Air Canada and Air Iberia weren’t bad. Alitalia…we’re lucky the plane didn’t fall apart. The seats were broken…so Italian.
Well my Balinese got them for your brother and nephew. A guy stuck his hand in his cage to check for guns and came out with 8 claw marks. Such a cute little fluffy Balinese kitten too. (He was named FANG…)
Depending on your trust level of the hotel, you can possibly get them to retain the least essential 10Kg, particularly if they know you’re coming back after you return from the subroutine…I mean subvacation.

Full disclosure. We had reservation when we returned. They were familiar with a couple of us, from previous visit. Very nice hotel.
Yeah they will be much more inclined to do it if they KNOW you are coming back to them on return.
Some hotels even have luggage storage facilities.
Open to people who are not, at that moment, guests at that hotel?
Based on a response I once got while traveling (when they didn’t yet know we were guests, pre-parking our luggage), I think some places will allow non-guests to park luggage if they provide information and pay a fee.
I know that on a number of occasions I was able to do a baggage dropoff well before checkin time as I had arrived in that locale early AM, go do touristy things, then return and check in. I imagine the reverse would work too. (Checkout, play tourist, pick up stuff, leave.) Wasn’t worried about theft; they’d have got a small bag full of dirty laundry.
Also have dropped bags when I arrived AM, with check in that afternoon.
I’ve used them, especially in Europe.
A large part of this is that hotels have been corrupted by motels.
They used to be full-service establishments that catered to the upper-crust that expected to be recognized. Now they are often generic accommodations designed to process people.
In times past, one might leave a letter for “Mr. Underhill” that could be at the desk for a year and produced upon registration. Luggage could be left for weeks or until next summer. Room keys would be distributed by sight, rather than by ID card.
Mind you, this is generally to the benefit of most modern travelers — you fly in, check in, sleep in, and move on….and it doesn’t cost more than a small house. You don’t expect your carriages and horses to be appropriately refreshed during your multi-week stay. But the bones are there in older, more traditional hotels.
Slow Guy perspective.
– Always pack lite when it fits. Makes sense.
– If I’m authorized 35, 50 or 70 lvs AND need it, I Take It. Using the home scale. I keep it under by at least 5 lbs.
Airlines are well paid.
Airline “service” nearly always Sucks. Seating outside of Business / First horrible.
Airlines, TSA and airport employees consider the flying public, an inconvenience.
Note, I’m speaking from the point-of-view of the airline.

Exactly. This is an excellent suggestion, and if you were staying in your destination for a week or two, any logical airline would jump at the chance to send the bags on a later flight. Frankly, when “late bags” have happened to us, I half suspect that this was done to us intentionally, to make weight – particularly on flights where it’s obvious by our schedule that we’re staying somewhere for a while, and there are multiple daily flights to the destination.
That is what I do not understand. Why not off load some of the luggage? That is what they used to do.
This is why I only take carry ons. I HATE it when that happens, especially when in a time crunch on the other end.
I’ve been on enough flights to know they do it all the time depending on where they are flying. Coming home from NYC with the Symphony, we left one of the chorus members behind just because of this.
I’ve been on a flight where they had to do that. It got up to $1500 and a free ticket before someone took it.
Back in the day, when I had people working for me who could do shipping in their sleep, I’d just ship myself things when I was traveling (and coming back). Since those halcyon days of my youth, shipping has gotten ferociously expensive…..but, even so, The Fiancee shipped a bunch of stuff back from this year’s trip to Rome rather than carry it. After all, for what airlines are charging per bag, shipping almost looks reasonable.

Four shots – last one stayed in the gun because of the slide catch.
While this could have been a “dedicated amateur” based on the tech (many gun guys would have chosen the same), the best speculation that it was professional, to my mind, is based on the observation of human behavior.
Will be interesting to see who it is, if they ever catch him.

Virtually all pistol rounds are subsonic IIRC.
It’s the opposite, actually. Subsonic rounds are an uncommon specialty item that cost extra. They almost always fail to operate semi-automatic firearms correctly, and the casings have to be manually ejected. Subsonics have to be powered just under a supersonic velocity, so that there is no supersonic crack.
Well, that’s what I get for running my memory retrieval algorithm in front of a mirror. 😂

SBA lenders and customers know about the red tape to which POTUS speaks. It is a worthy agency of the federal government that executes its mission badly.
She can start by shutting down agency operations centers and useless tertiary, ineffective programs that just blow tax payer money. Even BIMD I told HR and Senators to have the agency become a trainer and assign participating lenders with handling 90+% of the operations of the primary loan programs. That’s it – nothing else. The agency could then simply focus on audit and IG activities with said lenders along with promotion of its services. We were able to make the primary loan programs self funding of loan guarantees from fees charged the borrowers and lenders.
Not every bank or lender should be doing SBA type loans. They do not dedicate the resources and training of staff to know what they are doing with only one of two loans a year. They do not make full use of the benefits of the programs to the lenders, much less the potential customers. They cause problems with improper documentation and bad loan decisions while taking up the time and efforts of agency personnel. This skews the costs of the programs and actual loan experiences of the industry in relation to loan defaults, delinquencies, servicing related loan modifications, etc. That means more SBA staffing expenses of wannabe bureaucrats with more inefficiency the way it is operated now.
All of it is because the tip of the spear and those that “fund” the program don’t care about how the inefficiencies and junk initiatives cost the borrowers and lenders as well as tax payers who underwrite their related costs. Hopefully DOGE will address and get a better handle on it.

Interesting. I don’t know if anyone in their right mind would engrave words on the outside of shell casings while they had active primer and powder inside, which implies that they were custom loads or reloads.
