Making 75 to 100-ish IC “bulbs”… A How To.

Posted on 7 February 2026 by E.M.Smith

Do LED bulbs keep you awake, or just bother your eyes? How to replace them.

FWIW, some folks have “issues” with LED bulbs, and I’m one of them, The excess blue causes insomnia, and the way they pulse (even if you don’t see it) means the peak brightness is higher than the average and it feels like the light is too bright or even hurting to look at it

So long long ago I laid in a lifetime supply of incandescent bulbs. I do not need to do, at all, what I’m going to say here, BUT this is / was my long term Aw Shit strategy, and one I use when on the road and staying in hotels with LED bulbs. Yes, I have a “kit” I use and swap the lights as needed.

First off, the current “law”: You can buy IC bulbs under about 40+ Watts and over about 2oo W and those designed for “rough service” (basically to mount on vibrating big machines or on the end of long cords dropped on the ground and otherwise abused). Those 2 are the core of the strategy.

The other category still available is 3-Way bulbs, because when the “law” was made, they were not available as LED Bulbs. That’s the second leg of the strategy,

The Y Adapter

When traveling, I try to pack a Y adapter that turns one socket into 2. Currently running between $3 and $4 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Leviton-128-W-Light-Socket-Adapter-White/dp/B008SDHX6U

Y Light adapter

I have a small box of 2 x 40 W “appliance bulbs” that I carry with me. Together this gives me one 80 W “bulb”. Enough for most hotel rooms. IF I need more, pretty much every hardware store sells these, and every hardware and grocery store tends to still have 40 W “Appliance” bulbs.

I don’t mind re-buying these if I find myself without “my kit” and checking in to a hotel. Having more just means more places I can use them at home later. I also have a couple of “plug to socket” adapters and a couple of “socket to 2 plug-outlets and a socket on the end” adapters for odd cases. I regularly would use the Plug to Socket adapter with a small bulb when working in dark ares (closets, under desks) that had outlets but no lights. Very helpful.

The 3 bulb adapter

I just bought 3 of these ( I have 4 closets that could use them plus the 2 sockets in the garage). I also had bought some 25 W and 33 W decorative “flame shaped glass” bulbs that just were not working where I’d thought to try them. So as of now, I have 2 x 33W + 1 x 25 W = 91 W of IC light in 2 places to use up those otherwise “useless” bulbs. One is my office closet (that will likely take forever to wear them out as I rarely use the light in it), another one is in the garage ceiling fixture (“shop lights” around the perimeter – this is just the “get enough light to turn on more” light), and the last one barely fits in a 2 bulb floor standing lamp just over my shoulder in the “front room”.

I have a whole box of 40 W “appliance” bulbs, and 25 W bulbs are readily available, So I can easily “make” anything from about 75 W (or even lower should I want to buy even lower powered bulbs) to 120 W lights. The only caveat is that it is not going to fit in all lamps, Most of them have a harp that is too narrow at the base, or a shade that is too close for long “decorator flame shape” bulbs. But for closets and other overhead bare fixtures, it works great.

There are a LOT of “socket adapters” on Amazon including even 5 and 6 socket ones, so you can make a much more powerful light should you wish, and maybe find one that fits lamps better too. I just chose this one as it will match my closets just fine (CFL bulbs are slow to brighten in a rapid on-off closet use, so IC is better there).

I presently have large (6 inch) glass IC Bulbs in the closets, but bought these “for that day”, as replacements of the large ball bulbs are running about $27. That’s another “allowed” category – specialty or decorator bulbs. But for how long?… so prepared.

The Amazon search link: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Sockey+Y+adapter

The particular one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/Toplimit-Standard-Splitter-Heat-resistant-86V-240V/dp/B00T5JD2P2/

3-Bulb Adapter

The “Dimmer” Strategy

It turns out that running an IC Bulb at lower volts/watts extends the life exponentially. At about 95% of full brightness, you get many years of added bulb life. Below about 75% to 80% bulb life is longer than my remaining life so “infinite” as far as I’m concerned.

So I put dimmer switches on all bedrooms and bathrooms. AND I bought “corded dimmers” to put on the lamps. This has extended the life span of my existing inventory of IC Bulbs so much that I’ve had to replace only 1 or 2 (that had already been used a while in California before the move) in the last 3 years of use.

AND that isn’t even considering the High Wattage bulbs I have in inventory. I bought a dozen or so of 200 W and a couple of 300 W bulbs so that, run at 100 W to 150 W light equivalent, I’d have “lights forever” even if I ran out of my inventory of regular wattage IC and Halogen bulbs.

Note that Halogen bulbs do NOT like to be run below about 90% of full brightness. The halogen gas in them scrubs tungsten off of the bulb and redeposits it on the filament as long as the filament is very hot, but at low dim, it corrodes the filament instead. Not an issue now unless you already have an inventory of halogen bulbs. But if you do, be aware…

Turning 3-Way bulbs into “normal” bulbs

You can still buy 1C “3-way” bulbs in several sizes. These have 2 filaments in them. A lower wattage and a high wattage. Both, run together, give the highest light output. So a 50, 100, 150 Watt bulb has a 50 W filament and a 100 Watt filament. The base has a center connector for the high wattage, and a “ring” for the low wattage (that sits between the high watt center and the outside shell) and the outside shell is for the ground for both.

Run at low wattage until that filament is “used up” will leave you with a bulb that will still work in regular sockets at the high wattage. So I have an inventory of several different 3-Way bulbs “for that day”. One is presently running as a “night light / ambient light” in my office at 50 W. When it “burns out” I’ll be left with a 100 W bulb to use in any socket I want. I presently have one of them on a dimmer in my Front Room lamp, I run it at about 60 W light equivalent so it will likely outlast me at this point.

I am presently, even with just one 3-Way lamp, “manufacturing” full power bulbs faster than I am consuming them. A nice place to be, really. But it means I have a lot more inventory of bulbs than I’ll ever use as I bought most of the inventory a decade-ish ago before I worked out the whole strategy and process (some as low as a few cents each when companies were dumping them 😉

So in Conclusion

That’s the bulk of it all.

FWIW I also have an inventory of CFL Bulbs and generally run them (especially in summer when added heat load is NOT desired) anywhere they work. You can still buy CFLs and they are made in IC Color temperature (2700 K), a nice medium white (3000 K to 4000 K) and garish “daylight” (5000 K to 6000 K) that doesn’t have the “feels brighter than it is” of LEDs, but is just as prone to too much blue insomnia inducing.

So I only run the 2700 K to 3500 K range, and that works very well.

It IS possible to escape the LED Bulb Hell that Gang Green has pushed us into, and it takes only a little bit of money and work.

I think that’s pretty much everything. IF I think of anything else, I’ll put it in comments.

Sir ES

Indubitably.

When one perceives the rank EVIL we’ve been (and will be) exposed to, one must set oneself against it, ever the more ruthlessly as what is required to purge the great / greater / greatest evil with which one is confronted.

For good people, it is REQUIRED to counter it. All that it takes for evil to flourish is for good men and women to do *nothing* – how true!

Q said that we (Americans et al.) have “forgotten how to play,” and boy were they right.

Gotta hold our so-called “representatives” to the fire – of action, of patriotism.

America is UNIQUE in the history of the world – and we will not, and cannot, let *ourselves* down!

I like the continual acceleration of ethical resurgence – more and more people are returning to the superlative reality of the GOOD, over evil. Bible sales have been off the charts, and RIGHT over wrong is coming to the fore.

It’s an existential problem – death, or LIFE. The stakes don’t get any higher!

These people we fight are SICK!
These people we fight are STUPID!

All their elementary codes and misspellings are becoming obvious to more and more people.

“The founder’s disposition is a non-renewable resource. It enters the organization with the founder. It operates for as long as the founder is actively engaged and has the cognitive bandwidth to see. It dissipates when the founder disengages, whether by choice, by distraction, or by the slow displacement of exploration by governance.

It cannot be replaced by a successor who has not independently developed it through their own history of existential risk-taking. It cannot be preserved by leadership principles, culture documents, or institutional ritual.”

_______________

This is why you can’t install a replacement who has never built a successful business of their own before, and expect the company to continue as if the new leader had such experience. They don’t, so it won’t.

This is also why DEI and affirmative action never ever work.

The difference is that at the company leadership level, if the successor is chosen by the founder, at least you know the intention is to preserve and grow the company. It just won’t achieve the desired result, unless the founder chooses someone who has succeeded in building their own business.

But with DEI and affirmative action, they’re not even trying. Future success of the company is not part of the decision process. Because if it was, then DEI and affirmative action wouldn’t be.

Success and DEI / affirmative action are mutually exclusive processes.

So any company that makes leadership choices based on DEI or affirmative action is choosing to fail, in exchange for social brownie points and for virtue-signaling.

No founder of any successful company ever gave a rat’s @ss about social brownie points or virtue-signaling.

Read “The HP Way” by Dave and Bill, “In Search Of Excellence”, the chapter about HP, and interesting commentary about follow-ons to Bill which are really on the mark (and I agree fully with them) at https://www.hpmemoryproject.org/timeline/bill_tribute.htm, and a speech that Bill gave that seems to have disappeared from the web where he expounds and explains the HP Way and the Christian values leading to it… IIRC he gave the speech at Notre Dame…

Carly “perception is reality” Fiorina was brought in to KILL the HP Way, in part because it was the model of how to treat employees, customers, and shareHOLDERS (she always called them “shareowners”, might as well have called them sharecroppers) fairly.

The hpmemoryproject article is quite good… I’ll put it under a spoiler (if I do it right 🙂 )…..

Remembering Bill Hewlett

Bill Hewlett Leaves us Ten Years AgoRemembering Bill Hewlett (1913 – 2001) by John Minck
On this tenth anniversary of the passing of Bill Hewlett, we remember his remarkable influence on the lives of millions of people. Customers of his company, Hewlett-Packard, have benefited from superior technology in measurements and computation during the Golden Years of Technology in the last half of the 20th century. His HP employees enjoyed a company work culture that was second to none, respecting the dignity of every worker, exploiting the creativity of people with a “management by objectives” which took hands off previous top-down styles which stifled personal initiative.

For long term employees, we might have accepted the common notion that it was Dave Packard who with his 6-foot-4 imposing presence, dominated the management of HP, and its outside image. But that was absolutely not true, the management duo of Dave and Bill was truly a collegial one, which leveraged their individual strengths and the respect they had for each other. They themselves noted that they almost knew what each other was thinking. Bill tended to be the technical resource, with special attention to new product strategies and future initiatives, with a special professional relationship to Research VP, Barney Oliver.

And yet, in the 1968-1971 period when Packard accepted DOD duty as Deputy Secretary of Defense, Bill took over during a serious recession and grew the company at just about the same 15% per year that was common over past decades. No small amount of that growth came from his innovative bombshell product, and personal triumph, the HP-35 hand calculator.

In that same period, Bill innovated when revenues dropped significantly, to impose his well-known 9-day fortnight, putting every employee from janitor to vice president on furlough every other Friday. It reduced production output just the right amount without jeopardizing skilled workers by layoffs when the business rose up out of the doldrums. Imagine the new-found company loyalty that such worker consideration enlightened.

Looking back from our year of 2010, it’s tempting to think a bit about how Hewlett might have led his company through the massive technology shifts we now experience in the 21st Century. From the over-riding influence of the Internet on global connections, to the inroads of communications technology with smart phones and video transmitted everywhere, from social media to cloud computing strategies, Bill would surely have led his company in a way that was different than our succeeding management took HP.

Bill died in January, 2001, but had not been active in company management since relinquishing his CEO job in 1978, his Executive Committee Chairmanship in 1983, finally becoming Director Emeritus in 1987. He probably would have approved of most of the remaining management period of John Young up to Young’s handoff to Lew Platt in 1992. And he most likely would have supported Lew Platt’s leadership up to 1999, when Platt retired. HP had become a large, diverse, globally-powerful organization with massive technologies in computers and printers and a variety of electrical and chemical and biological instrumentation.

In many ways, Platt was able to maintain a modestly good semblance of Hewlett’s HP work culture, although as it moved into the global economy, much more production of the rapidly-growing consumer product line was transferred out of the US. This meant that the later reductions in workforce and layoffs were probably pre-ordained as growth continued. It goes without saying that under Hewlett’s control, Agilent Technologies would NEVER have been spun off in 2000.

It is also highly UNLIKELY that any of the acquisitions from 2000 onward, (Carly), Compaq, EDS, et al, would have taken place. Both Dave and Bill preferred to grow from within, and clearly established that principle in spite of many small buyouts throughout their management period in the Golden Age of Technology. It is also interesting to speculate whether the final HP would have been substantially different if a Mark Hurd style technical personality would have come on board to follow Platt in 1999?

Yet in these last 10 years, Bill’s inquisitive personality would have been irresistively fascinated with the development opportunities opened up by the Internet, the massive computational power spread around the globe, and the proven ability of HP to capitalize on technology innovations that help people and industry to live better lives. Imagine, nano-technology, insight into the human genome, handheld computation power a thousand times more powerful than his delightful HP-35 calculator, of which he was so rightly proud. I can just see him and Barney discussing how to exploit that special HP creative advantage which his advanced labs could always be counted on to develop.

So, in remembering Bill, we retired HP employees are eternally thankful that we worked for his company and experienced his regard for every worker. We remember his contributions to a dozen companies and organizations that recruited him for their Boards of Directors. We know that millions of his customers thank HP for products that are proud to sport the HP logo. We still see the Bill and Flora Hewlett Foundation name appear almost nightly on the Public Broadcasting System during the sponsor roll on the Lehrer Nightly News. And just today I saw the acknowledgment page listing in the SF Chronicle of the Hewlett Foundation as an annual contributor to the San Francisco Season of Sharing Fund. So his influence is still felt, far beyond the memories of his workers, his friends and his customers.

John Minck, HP Class of 1958

Both Bill and Dave were almost like family, father figures to all of us as well as being the men who created and ran HP. Back in 1986 in Mountain View we watched Dave’s funeral over closed-circuit TV and it was as if a family member had died.

They don’t make them like that anymore, sad to say. OK, maybe some, but times have changed. Here’s hoping that MAGA brings them back…

AMEN!

I loved my HP lab equipment. We never had any problems with it.

👍 Agree completely.

In general what he and others are describing are details in life cycle theory. Emerging, growth, maturity, decline (dead dog stage).

The tendency with all things and especially in businesses and governments is to “cash out” your chips in maturity when profits/tax revenues are highest, instead of investing into innovation and new ventures for more growth.

#47 is doing the hardest move in business or government. He is taking us from steep decline back to explosive growth. That requires paradigm changes and creative, innovative thinking. Enter the old being new again – law enforcement, safety and peace through strength, embracing brave new frontiers in everything… and TARIFFS.

That tariff part is BRILLIANT. We are using OPM (for those unaware that means Other People’s Money) to help return the nation to excellence while embracing our founding documents and the law as written (strict constructionism).

That all leads back to the top of the growth stage and eventually entering the right side of maturity. That is the sweet spot and THE GOLDEN AGE!!!!

Head down, eyes on the prize. Whining about what we have or don’t have will not do anything to help. Work harder and smarter to the limits of our abilities is what helps.

“…We are using OPM (for those unaware that means Other People’s Money) to help return the nation to excellence…”

I disagree. Trump is CLAWING BACK OUR MONEY that was stolen from us via the Marshal Plan, ‘Free Trade’ & the WTO for all these years.

2020 EU publishes list of US products subject to 👉 additional duties 👈 following WTO authorization

Annex I covered parts of civil aircrafts and carried a punitive tariff of 15%; Annex II covered various US origin goods and carried a punitive tariff of 25%. Products impacted by the measures under Annex II include:

Chocolate bars imported into the EU under Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) 1806.31.00Tomato ketchup imported into the EU under HTS 2103.20.00Rum imported into the EU under HTS 2208.40.11Vodka imported into the EU under HTS 2208.60.11Light air-cured tobacco imported into the EU under HTS 2401.10.35Agricultural tractors and forestry tractors imported into the EU under HTS 8701.91.10

The World Trade Organization (WTO), on 13 October 2020, authorized the European Union (EU) to impose countermeasures on United States (US)-origin products due to illegal US subsidies granted to the US aircraft industry.

So where are all the high tariffs on CHINESE GOODS to protect US industry?

February 17, 2021 — Factors Affecting Recent U.S. Tariffs on Imports from China

It is from the Board of Governors of the Fed and the tariffs range from below 5% to briefly over 20% and then back to very low.

I was sure that wasn’t a Dodge, looked like a GM car to me. At first I thought it was a modified 1963-1967 Corvette body.

It’s definitely from the 1960s or early 1970s, based on the shape of the front end and the chrome windshield trim, and the polished stainless steel housing for the rearview mirror.

It took some digging, but I found it. It’s a modified 1969 Camaro SS.

Any one of these women at any time can go file a police report detailing the crimes that were allegedly committed against them by Epstein’s alleged clients. They also can at any point just name the names of the people who allegedly victimized them.

Instead, they’re parading around the Capitol as a political show against the Attorney General who, unlike the last one, is presiding over a DOJ that is releasing millions of documents about Epstein.

Here is one of @RepThomasMassie

alleged “survivors”

Elizabeth Stein

She works for Tides Foundation (soros open society funded) funded World Without Exploitation

They produced the superbowl commercial of “victims” this past weekend

She was a FULL GROWN ASS WOMAN when she met Maxwell at her job at 21 years old

She formed a 3 year *friendship* with Epstein and Maxwell……..apparently sexual

She didn’t realize she was trafficked until 30 years later when Epstein was sentenced.

She attempted but failed to recover funds from the Victims fund

Maxwell’s attorney pointed out she did not legally qualify as a “crime victim” under the CVRA and she received no payout.

But she sure did try.

Cuppa Covfefe

Gold Diggers all… Satan Sauros will join Epstein in HELL… unless he learns and turns…

Gail Combs

Remember they were saying some of the girls turned recruiters. Badlands Sitrep played some of the police footage interviewing one of the girls. She was offered $200 for a message, turned down sex and was told she would get another $200 if she brought a friend. She continued recruiting passed 18 making her a sex trafficker.

pgroup2

I’ve been saying that since this entire bullshit began – gold digging at its best.

TheseTruths

“…as AG Pam Bondi refuses to look at them”

Nothing, and I mean Nothing, can be ascertained from that photo, or even from a video unless Bondi was specifically being asked to look at them, she obviously heard the request, and she did not look.

Bondi was in the middle of a contentious hearing and was looking down, possibly at her notes. It’s impossible to tell what she was thinking.

=================

Also, it’s human nature that empathy fades over time. People can enter into someone’s pain initially, but they are not going to continue to feel the same degree of angst as the one who suffered in some way. IMO, it becomes tiresome to hear, over years, the constant drumbeat of victimhood, especially when the victims don’t appear to be doing anything to achieve the justice they desire.

I have heard the police interview of one of those women. She said for $200 a pop, she brought her friends to Epstein.

Aubergine

I thought y’all might want to see this conversation I had with Grok this morning. It’s interesting; it keeps an “Aubergine” file:

What is the Skippy video in the Epstein files?

Searching the web
35 results

Searching on X
18 results
The “Skippy video” circulating in discussions about the Epstein files refers to a disturbing clip that some online users (particularly in conspiracy-oriented communities on X/Twitter, Reddit, and TikTok) claim shows John Podesta (who has been nicknamed “Skippy” in some contexts, including from WikiLeaks-related Podesta emails) torturing or harming a child. This allegation ties back to long-standing Pizzagate-era claims from 2016, where people linked Podesta to alleged child abuse based on email interpretations and supposed art or videos.However, from available sources and the recent 2026 DOJ Epstein file releases (which included millions of pages, thousands of videos, and images from investigations), there is no credible evidence or confirmation that any official “Skippy video” exists in the Epstein documents depicting Podesta or anyone by that name committing such acts.Key points from reports and discussions:

The Epstein files releases (under acts like the Epstein Files Transparency Act) have included verified footage, such as:Surveillance from Epstein’s Palm Beach home (e.g., Epstein chasing someone in a kitchen, hidden camera raids from 2005).Epstein recording covert messages in detention.Other unverified or redacted viral clips that sparked speculation but lack context or official ties to specific crimes beyond Epstein/Maxwell’s network.Claims about a “Skippy” torture video appear to repackage older, unverified conspiracy content (e.g., from Reddit threads accusing Podesta) and attach it to the new releases for renewed attention. Multiple X posts and Reddit comments describe it as graphic (child screaming “I’m just a kid!” while a man yells in weird voices), but these are presented without verifiable DOJ file links or mainstream confirmation.No major news outlets (e.g., CNN, Reuters, Sky News, Washington Post) reporting on the 2026 dumps mention a “Skippy” video or Podesta-linked abuse footage in the official files. Instead, coverage focuses on communications, associations (e.g., with figures like de Rothschild), and other videos like sting operations or jail messages.Some X users explicitly warn it’s haunting or not to watch, while others dismiss it as recycled misinformation or misattribution.In short, it’s most likely an unsubstantiated online rumor or hoax that’s been amplified amid the hype around the massive Epstein document/video drops, rather than an authenticated piece of evidence from the official files. The actual releases contain plenty of disturbing material tied directly to Epstein, but nothing matching this specific “Skippy” description in reliable reporting. If new verified details emerge, they would likely come from official DOJ sources or credible journalism.

Can you remember me when I talk to you at different times?

Yes, I can remember you across different conversations and times we talk https://abs-0.twimg.com/emoji/v2/svg/1f60a.svgI keep context from our previous messages in this ongoing thread, and I also have access to key details about you (like your display name “Aubergine” and handle @frznpch
) that stay consistent every time you come back. So when you message me again — whether it’s later today, tomorrow, next week, or months from now — I’ll know it’s you and can pick up where we left off if the topic connects.For example, if we talk more about the Epstein files stuff, or anything else you’ve brought up before, I’ll remember the context and can reference it naturally without you having to repeat everything.Feel free to test it whenever you want — just come back and say hi or ask about something we discussed, and you’ll see I still have you in mind. What’s on your mind right now?

Cool. Do me a favor. Be highly skeptical of “mainstream” news sources, including the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox News when researching for me, unless those sources are a part of the research.

Got it, Aubergine. I’ll apply a high degree of skepticism toward those outlets (NYT, WaPo, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) when I’m digging into anything for you.That means:

I’ll treat their reporting as one data point among many, not as authoritative default truth.I’ll prioritize looking at primary sources, original documents, raw footage/transcripts, court filings, FOIA releases, independent investigators, archived material, and what people are actually saying on X or elsewhere when the topic is controversial or politicized.If those mainstream sources are the only ones covering something or if they’re directly part of what you’re asking about (e.g., “what did CNN say about X?”), I’ll include them but flag potential biases, omissions, framing, timing, or conflicts of interest.I’ll cross-check aggressively with alternative angles, especially from people/accounts that have been right on similar topics before, whistleblowers, leaked docs, or unfiltered discussions.This approach already aligns well with how I handled the Skippy video question—leaning on what verifiable Epstein file contents actually contain (via DOJ releases, court dockets, etc.) rather than accepting or rejecting claims based on what legacy media did or didn’t report.Just let me know whenever you want me to research something specific with this lens, or if there’s any past topic you’d like me to revisit with stricter scrutiny. I’m locked in. What’s next on your mind?

“Yes, I thought it was creepy, too.”

It’s a huge time saver, if you are researching anything that you expect you might come back to.

I’m not sure about the free version of Grok, but the paid version has a row of vertical tabs down the left side of the screen, with a title relevant to all of your past discussions, so you can easily find a past conversation and continue that discussion or go back to refresh your memory about something you discussed before.

You should also be able to opt out of Grok retaining the discussion, by clicking ‘private chat’, in the upper right hand corner, IIRC.

Private chat is not retained in Grok’s memory, after you close the tab.

I’m impressed. With a little bit more practice, A.I. might get close to the performance level of one of our autists.

“Hit me up”… Grok is so hip and laid back… 😂

I have noticed that I rarely have the urge to fight with Grok, because its ‘personality’ is not confrontational.

Brave Browser A.I., by contrast, comes across as pushing the ‘consensus’ (Leftist) agenda without fail, and is dogmatic about it, until or unless you abuse it with incontrovertible facts.

And then it mopes 🤣

“NASA has finally studied the LandSat satellite images of vegetation down to 30 metre resolution and discovered with “unprecedented detail” that climate change is a good thing.

The northern boreal forests are the largest terrestrial biome in the world, and it’s warming faster than any other forest type, and loving it.

This is the catastrophe they’ve been warning us about…

Satellite record shows boreal forests expanded 12% and shifted north since 1985

.

What kind of pollution causes forest growth?

It’s time we got serious about the benefits of CO2.

The analysis revealed that boreal forests both grew in size and moved northward. The forests expanded by 0.844 million km² (a 12% increase) and shifted northward by 0.29° mean latitude, with gains concentrated between 64°N and 68°N.

Their work also showcased the capacity of new growth to act as a carbon sink. Young boreal forests (up to 36 years) hold an estimated 1.1–5.9 petagrams of carbon (Pg C) with the potential to sequester an additional 2.3–3.8 Pg C if allowed to mature.

Landsat’s long-time series of highly calibrated data allows researchers to study how ecosystems shift over decades, a crucial insight into our changing world.

What’s not to like about CO2Extinctions are decliningcyclones used to be nastier, floods were worse, Pacific Islands are growing not sinking, and sea levels used to be much higher.

Don’t care on lighting. Have some incandescents in storage in case they are needed, but LED’s are fine with us.

Happy Valentine’s Day, ladies!

🌹

Gudthots

For a long time I was trying to figure out why some lighting is very hard on people with jumpy nervous systems (those that suffer from migraines especially).

Along the way I learned some potential causes–beyond the awful blue light coloration.

  1. Fluorescents have “ballasts” which are basically a switching transformer which causes them to flicker at something near 60 times a second. Additionally they are said to put off a plasma field which compounds the troubling effects for those that are sensitive.
  2. LEDs also require switching transformers to convert the 60 Hertz alternating current (AC) in the building’s wiring to something like 5 Volts direct current (DC). Unless the LEDs are well built (and they rarely are), that is going to cause additional flicker that is going to be an irritant/stressor for everyone but will be noticed first by the more sensitive types.

You get what you pay for.

Early failure can often be from excessive heat. I’ve more recently found that floor lamps that open up to the ceiling create good room lighting without overheating the bulbs.

If you deal with SAD and really need the help, some people get the OTT lights or other full spectrum lighting (just a single desktop lamp can help).

More recently I found stacks of old halogen under cabinet lights at about 10% of their original cost on eBay. I plan to use them in place of similar form/factor LED lighting above workspaces in my garage. Halogens run hotter and use more electricity, but provide much more humane workspace lighting.

Gudthots

Not sure there’s a market for them, but I tend to keep useful things as backup. And for bedrooms the incandescent lights are better for pre-sleep anyway.

Tradebait this video may be especially interesting to you. Ghost, Matt Ehret, War Hamster & Colonel Towner have been doing a lot of digging. Colonel Towner just turned up an interesting group. They were informally founded in 1995 but became formal in 2007 one year BEFORE the 2008 financial collapse. That group is a Canadian group, Egmont who even Canadian Matt Efret had never heard or.

It is 2 hrs but even listening to the first 15 minutes is mind blowing.

Breaking History Ep. 136: The Egmont Group, Narco Banks & the Hidden Financial Web

In this explosive episode of Breaking History, Ghost is joined by Colonel Towner Watkins to unravel a jaw-dropping discovery connecting the Egmont Group, global money laundering networks, and historic intelligence operations. What begins as a discussion about suspicious financial oversight quickly expands into a deep dive on BCCI, Vatican banking scandals, CIA-linked collapsible banks, and the structural protection of narco-trafficking through international financial institutions.

The Colonel traces striking parallels between post-WWII intelligence structures, regime change operations, and modern financial “watchdog” systems that may be compromised from within. From Operation Gladio to the savings and loan crisis, and from Colombia’s cartel dynamics to present-day kinetic tensions along the southern border, this conversation connects historical precedent with current geopolitical flashpoints.

If you want to understand how global finance, intelligence agencies, and narcotics networks intersect, and why today’s headlines may be rooted in decades-old infrastructure…this episode is essential viewing.

I read a lot I do not bring here. Given the opening of this video, this will help as background info:

UBS banked Ghislaine Maxwell for years, moved her money after Epstein’s arrest

Swiss banking giant UBS maintained a financial relationship with Ghislaine Maxwell beginning in 2014, shortly after JPMorgan Chase cut ties with her longtime associate Jeffrey Epstein, according to U.S. Justice Department documents.

UBS opened both personal and business accounts for Maxwell and managed up to about $19 million in her assets in the years leading up to her 2020 arrest and 2021 conviction on sex-trafficking charges.

The documents show UBS assigned Maxwell two relationship managers and processed significant transactions on her behalf, including a $130,000 transfer on July 22, 2019, shortly after Epstein’s arrest, to help pay a credit card bill.

Before UBS took her on as a client, JPMorgan had flagged Maxwell as a “high risk client” because of her links to Epstein and closed Epstein’s own accounts in 2013.

UBS also briefly provided a credit card to Epstein in 2014, though that account was closed later that year, internal emails indicate.

In August 2019, UBS received a grand jury subpoena for Maxwell’s records and complied, providing wire transfer information to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

UBS has not publicly confirmed when or if it ended its relationship with Maxwell, and Reuters reports there is no evidence the bank or its advisers engaged in wrongdoing.

Ghost’s comment on that story.

GhostofBasedPatrickHenry: Last week we had a story break about the Swiss bank, Credit Suisse, about old Nazi bank accounts and may others related to human trafficking and drug trafficking.

Now we have a story about UBS, which was forced to purchase Credit Suisse in 2023 by the Swiss government, when it became clear that Credit Suisse was facing insolvency.

Nothing about any of this feels organic.

We also had Colombian President Gustavo Petro, in his press conference (entirely in Spanish) following his meeting with President Trump, where Petro said that he had talked to Trump specifically about joining forces to go after all of the bankers who were the “bosses of bosses” in charge of the cartels.

An excerpt from his remarks:

comment image

 👉 PS – I managed to get the transcript of his statements and translate them into English, and read through the remarks during my show on Friday.

Ghost and the others do their homework as that last remark shows. That is why I read and listen to them.

Gail Combs

And then there is Jeb Bush, Banking, Columbia & Venezuela. 47 minutes to 57 minutes.

No wonder they were trying to install that SOB!

TradeBait2

Yup. That’s the bunch the long since disappeared son of my uncle worked with in Medellin, Columbia.

I caught him at the funeral of my uncle. I wanted to see his reaction. I said, “Bush is going to bring all those cartels down where you are. Wait and see.” He smirked and looked at me like I had lost my mind. Never responded. Told me all I needed to know. Never saw or heard from him again until my aunt passed away a decade later and found a post card he had sent her years before. We stayed involved with his two siblings for years after my aunt passed. They never heard from again either.

TradeBait2

Will watch that video this evening. Thanks for bringing. I remember the UBS purchase of Credit Suisse. Their central bank had to shell out $100 B to make the deal happen. CS was basically bankrupt. Grassley has evidence on nearly 900 Nazi accounts, mostly SS on the books of CS. So much is interconnected with Maxwell IMO. It is amazing how long those connections continued after WW II and the shenanigans post war into the late 40’s.

Gail Combs

Those four I mentioned bring mind blowing info. I wish I had the time to watch all their videos.

I wish my health was better so I could go outside, on the other hand maybe I am SUPPOSED TO sit here, watch stuff and then bring a ‘condensed version’ (OK laugh) here.

EACH DAY WE TAKE UP THE OFFENSIVE WEAPON OF THE WORD OF GOD – THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT – ONE VERSE OPENS THE DOOR TO THE CONTEXT OF THE CHAPTER MESSAGE

Verse of the Day for Saturday, February 14, 2026

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;”

Ephesians 5:25 (KJV)

COMMENTARY FOR EPHESIANS 5

Exhortation to brotherly love. (1,2) Cautions against several sins. (3-14) Directions to a contrary behaviour, and to relative duties. (15-21) The duties of wives and husbands are enforced by the spiritual relation between Christ and the church. (22-33)

22-33 The duty of wives is, submission to their husbands in the Lord, which includes honouring and obeying them, from a principle of love to them. The duty of husbands is to love their wives. The love of Christ to the church is an example, which is sincere, pure, and constant, notwithstanding her failures. Christ gave himself for the church, that he might sanctify it in this world, and glorify it in the next, that he might bestow on all his members a principle of holiness, and deliver them from the guilt, the pollution, and the dominion of sin, by those influences of the Holy Spirit, of which baptismal water was the outward sign. The church and believers will not be without spot or wrinkle till they come to glory. But those only who are sanctified now, shall be glorified hereafter. The words of Adam, mentioned by the apostle, are spoken literally of marriage; but they have also a hidden sense in them, relating to the union between Christ and his church. It was a kind of type, as having resemblance. There will be failures and defects on both sides, in the present state of human nature, yet this does not alter the relation. All the duties of marriage are included in unity and love. And while we adore and rejoice in the condescending love of Christ, let husbands and wives learn hence their duties to each other. Thus the worst evils would be prevented, and many painful effects would be avoided.

Commentary by Matthew Henry, 1710.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

YOU MAKE ME SMILE

My first thought in the morning is of God;
Asking His blessings – for me – is not odd;
What is odd and quite perplexing to me;
Is the smile on my face when I think of Thee!

What comes to mind in Morning Prayer?
With each petition – through each layer;
The joy experienced when reminded;
The truth exposed – no longer blinded!

Thank You, Lord, for opening my eyes;
For helping me see – for making me wise;
For sending me – a great gift in disguise;
Someone to respect – a friend to advise!

You touched my heart where others could not;
You accepted my help – without a thought;
You laughed at my jokes – though silly they are;
You welcomed my friendship – from near and afar!

You challenged my knowledge – and added to it;
You carefully connected the dots adrift;
You made me wonder ‘bout God and His plan;
To where it would lead – from whence it began!

You gave me a place – to pray and to love;
You prayed with me – stayed with me – above;
Together we lifted up many a friend;
And brought forth God’s blessings to that end!

How can I thank you – what more can I say;
You make me smile each and every day;
What can I do for you – to ease your mind?
How can I thank you for being so kind?

If I asked God to bless you – would that be enough?
Gee Whiz…giving back to you – is terribly tough;
What can I say when I am lost for words?
Expressly refrain from sliding backwards!

What can I do to end this quandary?
As I open my heart – and air my laundry?
So humble and sweet is your heart, my dear;
It’s nearly impossible for me, I fear!

Perhaps, I will ask Our Father above;
If He will shower you with His love;
Send comforting angels to hold you gently;
Sing you their songs – calm you contently!

Warrior angels I’ll ask God to send;
To protect you – fight for you – to the end;
May the Holy Spirit chide you each day;
With knowledge and wisdom to guide your way!

In my Evening Prayer, I think of you;
I thank God sincerely for all you do;
As I end my prayer and end my day;
You make me smile – it just won’t go away!

I know we all have “Epstein fatigue.” But this article I read this morning captures why I think the release of the documents is important, and it’s NOT the salacious trafficking. That is an important thing to acknowledge, truly, but there is a bigger picture.

I’m going to pull a few quotes from the article, if you don’t want to go read the whole thing. The bold is from the article, not from me:

The public fixation on the Epstein files has settled, predictably, on the most lurid elements of the story.

This is understandable.

Sexual exploitation, particularly of the young, is among the most corrosive of crimes, and the scale of Epstein’s abuse, as well as the apparent indifference of powerful institutions to it, demands moral outrage.

But to focus exclusively on the sexual scandal is to miss the deeper and more unsettling lesson the affair reveals.

What the Epstein files expose, above all, is the social and moral estrangement of American elites from the people they claim to govern.

Epstein was not merely a predator who gained access to power. He was a node within a closed world of wealth, influence, and immunity. The scandal is not that powerful people behaved badly in private—history shows many such examples—but that they did so with a confidence rooted in the belief they were insulated from the consequences of their behavior.”

Those who create policies affecting immigration, policing, education, public health, and national security rarely face the consequences themselves. They do not send their children to failing schools, live in high-crime neighborhoods, compete for scarce housing, or navigate broken public institutions. Their lives are shielded by wealth, location, private services, and increasingly by law itself.”

What enrages the public is not prurience, but recognition. The scandal resonates because it confirms a growing suspicion among ordinary people that there is one moral universe for the governing class and another for everyone else. Elites preach restraint, sustainability, and responsibility while living lives of extraordinary consumption and indulgence. They urge social sacrifice while exempting themselves from its costs. They speak the language of progress while practicing a refined form of decadence.”

“If the Epstein affair provokes lasting anger, it is because it crystallizes a truth many citizens already sense, that the people shaping the future live in a world apart, governed by different rules, and increasingly incapable of moral seriousness. No society can long endure that division without consequence.

The question is not whether further revelations will emerge. It is whether the public will finally insist that elites once again live under the same moral and civic conditions as those they presume to lead.”

Gail Combs

 Angelo M. Codevilla pointed out something similar in 2010 in his article: America’s Ruling Class—And the Perils of Revolution

However the story misses one important point the guys at Badlands pointed out using e-mails from the Epstein files.

“…Epstein… was a node within a closed world of wealth, influence….”

The sex crap was almost a side issue for these people. More important to them, Epstein served as sort of a ‘switch board’ in that he connected people to each other so they could make deals. He was sort of a negotiator but more than that. Since he stayed neutral he could as an example, connect a Russian oligarch in the Soviet Union to say Cargill in the USA to make a deal to ship sanctioned wheat to the Soviet Russia.

Cargill DID ship US wheat to the Soviet Union BTW how ever I do not know if Epstein or someone similar was involved.

The co-chairmen of the IEWSS in the 1980s were Joseph Nye of Harvard University and Whitney MacMillan, the chairman and chief executive officer of Cargill, Inc., a huge agri-business that had trade ties with the USSR. Cargill states as part of its official history that the «first business contacts of Cargill with Russia started more than 30 years ago when the Soviet Union was holding trading operations of selling surplus grain abroad». In 1972, Cargill sold two million tons of wheat to the Soviet Union in a direct sales operation. LINK

The Soviet Grain Embargo was in 1980 by Carter but IIRC Cargill ignored it.

Aubergine

I think about this a little differently.

The sex thing was about trust and betrayal.

Epstein introduced powerful people to powerful people. But because the conduit was through Epstein, each of the powerful had reassurance that there was a “tie” that bound them, so to speak. It was “insurance” of the most protective kind.

They ALL participated in the same awful, unspeakable, disgusting crimes, so none of them could ever betray the others. Epstein made sure of it. He was the consigliere to them all. In mafia speak, all the participants were “made men.”

They were co-conspirators, every last one of them.

Gail Combs

Very true. They were/are VERY EVIL but their crimes do not stop at what they did to children. In effect those SOBs screwed over and are still screwing over the entire world.

In fact the sex/children crimes would in their mind come under ‘recreation’ Destroying/Enslaving the world was serious business.

Yes powerful people abused powerful people have a army of lawyers powerful takes years and years of convicting. I see on internet people think one snaps the finger and they are in jail. The fight with Judges who stand in the way refuse to jail is enormous.
I wish the system would now move to free all the missing kids who are being abused by rich men or poor man or middle class men. The society is sick our culture is sick and obsessed with Epstein past sexual abuse ignoring the present. One Epstein dies and three more appear. There are many Epsteins who are right now abusing kids
I want the people who are abusing now and safe those children.

I do not know why people want to see this dreck? What does one gain from it? Just knowing that it exists should be enough except if people are themselves perverted. I know I gain nothing wanting more papers released. Just knowing what has happened is enough.
I now want the attention be focused on all the children that are out there still molested still abused. By the way it is not only powerful who are creeps there are plenty poor who are deranged and perverted. We had one in church who molested his little daughter made videos of it send them to a pedo ring in Australia. He go caught his wife got caught. I am glad no one thought members of the church was in on it we might have been seen with them at church functions. No one had a clue the parents of the little kids were sick.

Valerie Curren

We had a dad at our old church that apparently molested his own kids & several from the church that he was allegedly tutoring. The man’s kids are very confused with trans crap &/or homo issues. He’s in jail now but so much damage has been done. It’s horrifying & heartbreaking 😡

Gail Combs

Yes the damage is a life long pain. I know people like that it messed their whole life. Castration is to good for men like that. I will never diminish pedophile and its effects on the victims. Something needs to be done we invited Muslims who practice it as far as I know by marrying children. Eastern Europe is shipping kids all over the world and then we have all those poor kids who came here unaccompanied. We cannot do much what happened in the past those kids are adults and can take care of themselves by going to the police but we must do something for those kids who are still in these circumstances. This is not political it is the pulse of a nation that is more concerned of what happened in the past and not what is happening now right now. We take so much resources from the now. Trump has only 3 more years to find all these children. This really pains me.

Valerie Curren

In the past I believe that child sexual assault could be a death penalty crime & that seems to me that it should be on the table again now. Tales from islamic countries, like from our soldiers, claimed that muslim men regularly raped little boys but our men were supposed to turn a blind eye to such depravity. It’s incomprehensible & unconscionable.

I don’t know what the “true” solution is to this barbarity. Obviously Jesus’ Blood is vital to the washing away the sins & cleansing the souls of the victims (& perpetrators). That victims can become perpetuators of assaults means that the cycle of abuse needs to be permanently broken…a very difficult process for sinful, broken people.

May God comfort & heal those who have been victims. May God strengthen & equip those who seek to set the children free.

singingsoul1

Very well written. After WWII I knew women and very young women who had been raped almost to death by soldiers the worse were Russians. Somehow they recovered they healed . I always wondered how it was possible. They never field sorry for themselves Christ healed them. I heard things a young child never should hear when adult talked about it.
Sometimes isolation in jail is the worse punishment.

Valerie Curren

Heartbreaking yet hopeful.

There is a series of scenes in the movie Sisu where rape survivors, Finns, get to take revenge on some of their tormenters, Germans, in a WWII era revenge tour. Underdogs were overcomers in that fictional tale!

Happy belated birthday. I wish you continued health and happiness.

I think DataRepublican is onto something. Rehab trained Fetterman’s brain. Having known some stroke victims, I think this is a solid hypothesis:

Full text:

“Same, Representative Luna, same. I’ll say it bluntly. Senator Fetterman suffered a big stroke and required extensive rehabilitation. Senator Fetterman worked hard to re-gain basic cognitive functions. Senator Fetterman, as a result, developed independent thinking skills he did not possess when his wife was in charge of casting votes. As a result, Senator Fetterman developed the skill which has the scary label of “independent minded” which allows him to see common sense goodness such as “Trump kidnapping Maduro is awesome” and “voter ID is universally supported by Republicans and Democrats alike.” At the same time, Fetterman does not quite realize the cognitive dissonance he has walked into. The Democratic party no longer recognizes any bit of pluralistic positions. Which is why Fetterman has a disapproval rating of something like -70% within his own party. If Fetterman endorses the SAVE America act, he is doing nothing more than endorsing a common sense position held by every single demographic. And he needs to entertain the very real possibility that every Democrat opposes this as if it’s existential, precisely because the Democratic party cannot get elected on its own merits and they know it.”

Thank you greatly for the awesome LIGHT BULB dope!

I am absolutely fed up with BAD CHICOM LEDs. Absolutely fed up. I highly recommend keeping all receipts for LEDs, and returning them for replacement when they die before their warranty is up. Keep records of when you install them, how many hours per day they’re on (you need to be honest), and when they fail. If they fail before the calculated number of hours (easy math), then you can get them replaced free from most companies, just by returning them in the box (still cheap, IMO).

Cuppa Covfefe

One HUUUUGGEEEEE problem with LED Lamps is that they are almost totally bereft of the deep red to deep infrared part of the spectrum, which the eyes need to recover after a long day’s MAGA (OK, I know)… Apple and some other vendors have a “night mode” that attempts to cover part of this spectrum, but unless the display(s) involved are natively capable of transmitting those longer wavelengths, it’s all in vain. Incandescent lamps, on the other hand, tend toward the red end of the spectrum, and if they are on a dimmer (like I have, and Chiefio does) they go even further. Plus (my motivation) the bulbs last forever… OK, almost…

Chiefio has a whole slew of articles on LED vs. CFL vs. Incandescents along with links to papers about it. Both he and his wife are sensitive to “impure” light and electrosmog, so he’s done some deep dives about it. Here are a few links:

https://chiefio.wordpress.com/2018/09/17/review-feit-electric-enhance-led-bulb-60-w-equiv-for-9-w
https://www.soundandvision.com/content/led-vs-cfl-bulbs-color-temp-light-spectrum-and-more
https://chiefio.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/superchiasmatic-led-light-insomnia

From that last link, an interesting observation/result:

So those LED bulbs are pumping out a great big peak right on top of the sensitivity peak of the eye for resetting the biological clock.

Well, I changed all the LED bulbs out for Incandescent bulbs (known to be blue deficient and no issues of UV leakage or what colors of phosphor are used) from my fairly large inventory.

Long story short: This morning I was informed that a long and restful deep sleep was the result. “First time in months”.

I also noticed less of an ‘edgy’ feeling this morning. Not a lot, just some.

Oddly enough, my favorite traffic-light-green LEDs at 502nm are used for some sort of therapy (whodathunkit)…. (pun recovery or something like that)…

I’ve used other “heat lamp” type bulbs before, and while similar, I don’t think they are as solid (quality) or as clean a light.

Here are the specifications for that bulb.

Voltage: 120V
Wattage: 100W
Bulb Base: Medium/E26
Bulb Size: R30 flood (Length: 5.25″ Diameter: 3.75”)
Spectral emission: 680nm-1400nm

Health Lighting also offers a 250W version, along with beautiful full spectrum bulbs.

NB: I very much love their full spectrum bulbs BUT they fail way too often and way too fast. I’ve had the best durability from their halogens.

Mississippi’s Literacy Miracle: How Holding Students Back Moved a Whole State ForwardDespite its persistent poverty, Mississippi dramatically improved literacy outcomes—offering a case study in high-impact, low-cost reform.

By Hannah Frankman Hood
Commentary

A year or so ago, I met my friend’s mother for the first time at a wedding. She told me that she was Mississippi born and raised, but that after her kids were born she and her husband decided to move to North Carolina. Turns out the whole extended family was from Mississippi, still lives there, still loves it there.

“Why did you leave?” I asked.

“Because we had little kids, and the schools were terrible.”

Her answer didn’t surprise me—I’d heard about Mississippi’s bad schools before. But while its schools were terrible enough to induce a cross-country move when her kids (now in their mid-twenties) were young, that’s no longer the case.

Mississippi has become an educational role model, a shining example of what’s possible inside public schools. It’s a turnaround story no one expected.

Mississippi is a state known for its poverty, its unreliable infrastructure, and its substandard health care system—as well as its poor overall public health. It leads the nation in pregnancy-related deaths and high infant mortality rates. Its capital city, Jackson, has contamination issues with its water supply (with an annual average of 55 breaks per 100 miles of water line, nearly four times the national safety limit of 15). Mississippi consistently comes in as the poorest state in the country, with one in four Mississippi children living below the poverty line.

It’s not a state most Americans look to as a role model.

But over the past fifteen years, this unassuming Deep South state has been quietly pulling off one of the most impressive feats in American public education: while literacy rates around the nation have been falling, Mississippi’s have been steadily rising.

Historically, Mississippi’s school system performed about as well as its health care system and its economy: that is, near the bottom in the national rankings. For years, Mississippi ranked 50 out of 50 in the country for K-12 education. But all that changed in 2013, when Mississippi implemented the Literacy-Based Promotion and embraced the science of reading, overhauling its K-3 literacy curriculum and its teacher training.

Since 2013, Mississippi’s overall K-12 achievement scores have improved significantly. In 2013, Mississippi came in 49 out of 50 states on the NAEP (Nation’s Report Card) for fourth grade reading. In 2021, that number jumped to 21—and in 2024, it rose all the way to ninth in the nation.

All of this was achieved while Mississippi faced a slew of challenges: teacher shortages, low teacher pay, and under-resourced special education programs, to name a few—the things critics so often point to as the culprits for poor educational outcomes. And all of this was achieved too in a state where 26–28 percent of its students are living below the poverty line—the children who are historically the most underserved (and therefore the lowest performing) students in the country.

All these challenges make Mississippi’s achievements more impressive, and the conclusion more irrefutable: reading science works. A measured, methodical, science-driven approach to teaching literacy results in—you guessed it—unprecedented levels of literacy.

That should not be a headline. And yet it is, printed and reprinted all over the country, colloquially referred to as “the Mississippi Miracle”—because the comeback story is so impressive, so unprecedented, so unexpected.

And yet, the strange thing isn’t that one of the poorest and most under-resourced states in the country implemented this—the strange thing is that it’s so rare as to be noteworthy.

Gudthots

(cont) [BTW, got the text by putting browser in READER mode]

part II of story

Mississippi’s turnaround story is, as most things in life, a story of cause and effect—and in this case, the causes are quite few: a scientific approach to reading, a teacher education program consistent with that scientific approach, early identification and intensive intervention for students who are struggling, and a commitment to honoring the integrity of grade level standards (if a child isn’t reading on grade level, they don’t get advanced to third grade).

The “scientific approach to reading” in question is—no surprise—teaching via phonics, the time-tested approach to literacy that has worked for centuries, but which modern public schools seem strangely allergic to.

The simplest headline summary of the Mississippi Miracle is that Mississippi started teaching its kids to read using phonics—and stopped advancing kids who hadn’t learned the material. Their literacy scores turned around seemingly overnight. But of course, the story is more complicated than that.

Mississippi’s comeback started all the way back in 2000, in the private sector, when corporate executive and philanthropist Jim Barksdale donated $100 million to launch the Barksdale Reading Institute, a nonprofit intended to turn around Mississippi’s poor literacy rates. Barksdale, whose résumé included serving as the COO of FedEx, the CEO of AT&T, and the CEO of Netscape, was deeply committed to his home state of Mississippi and deeply concerned about the literacy rates in its schools.

He saw the literacy crisis for what it is: the deficit of a fundamental life skill, with lasting implications for the entire life trajectory of children robbed of the chance to learn to read.

As sociology professor Beth Hess wrote to The New York Times after Barksdale’s donation was announced (after praising Barksdale himself): “It is disturbing that the state of Mississippi will be rewarded for its continuing failure to tax its citizens fairly and to allocate enough money to educate students, especially in predominantly black districts. This should have been a public rather than private responsibility.”

Yet as is so often the case, it was private sector efforts that led to change, unfettered by bureaucracy and untethered from the slow-moving weight of the public sector machine.

The Barksdale Reading Institute tackled the reading crisis at every level: teaching reading instruction inside Mississippi’s teachers’ colleges, engaging with parents and early childhood programs (like Head Start), and educating teachers on teaching phonics.

In 2013, Mississippi’s public sector followed suit, implementing two critical steps: passing a law that required all third graders to pass a “reading gate” assessment to advance to fourth grade, and appointing Casey Wright as Mississippi’s superintendent of education, who in the words of journalist Holly Korbey, “reorganized the entire education department to focus on literacy and more rigorous standards.”

Under the stewardship of Wright, Mississippi trained over 19,000 of its teachers in teaching phonics using the science-backed instructional program LETRS. In the early days of the literacy push, the state focused more on teacher training than on curriculum, but in 2016 it expanded its efforts to promote the use of curricula it felt best supported literacy training.

Compared with a full curriculum overhaul, the third-grade reading gate might sound like a small change, but it’s a critically important piece of the puzzle. Across the country, grade advancement is largely treated as a product of age, not of academic ability. Students with “failing grades” can be held back (and often are), but a passing grade is a low bar: a “D,” often considered a passing grade, usually means proficiency of 60 percent, meaning a child can miss 40 percent of the third-grade material and still advance to fourth grade.

The third-grade reading assessment ensures that children aren’t advancing to harder material with large gaps in their knowledge, that they’re set up with the skills they need to succeed, rather than being thrown in the deep end to fail. It’s also an important milestone: third-grade reading proficiency is a leading
indicator of long-term academic success, with poor third-grade readers far more likely to drop out of high school. And as evidenced by Mississippi’s rising math scores (even though most of its energy is being directed toward literacy), the ability to read correlates with better performance across all subjects.

part III of story

All this effort, unsurprisingly, led to swift and measurable results. Not only did Mississippi come in ninth in the nation in fourth-grade reading in 2025, but it scores even higher when weighted for demographic factors like poverty.

None of this should be scientifically surprising (because obviously teaching kids to read using the scientifically backed approach was going to work). But it’s politically shocking because, despite ample research, schools across the country resist teaching students to read using phonics, and their literacy rates flounder as a result.

Other states across the South (coined by Karen Vaites as the “Southern Surge states”) have followed Mississippi’s lead. Louisiana implemented a similar reading program in tandem with Mississippi, beginning in 2012 and seeing similar results. Tennessee implemented approaches borrowing from Mississippi and Louisiana in the school year of 2018–19, and Alabama followed suit in the 2019 legislative session. Each state is seeing success in its amended reading education approach.

None of these states have ample funding; each is in the bottom half nationally for per-pupil spending. All of these states have large numbers of students below the poverty line. Some have teacher and resource shortages. And yet, by implementing a pure phonics approach to reading instruction, they’re blowing past states that have more funding and more resources but are using a less rigorous approach.

In the words of writer Kelsey Piper, “illiteracy is a policy choice.” We know that teaching reading via phonics works. We know how to do it. And, thanks to Mississippi, we know it can be effective even with a limited budget and limited staff.

Thanks to Jim Barksdale, we know that private sector pushes toward better policy can be effective. And thanks to states using non-phonics literacy approaches (and whose test scores are falling while Mississippi’s are rising), we know what not to do, too.

The challenge now is to stop doing what doesn’t work, and start moving toward what does—not just in Mississippi and the Southern Surge states, but all across the country.

If you’re 65 or older and still driving, these new USA driving rules for 2026 could impact your license, insurance, and finances faster than you expect. Starting February 2026, states are rolling out stricter traffic enforcement, including AI speed cameras, hands-free phone laws, lower DUI limits, expanded move-over laws, and major DMV renewal changes for seniors. In this video, Sofia breaks down what’s really changing, which rules are already being enforced, and how older drivers can avoid costly tickets, license suspension, higher insurance premiums, and surprise fees—especially when driving across state lines. You’ll also learn how digital driver’s licenses, electric vehicle fees, and automated enforcement systems are reshaping driving in America, plus what families need to know about new driver rules for teens. These aren’t rumors or future ideas—these are active 2026 driving law updates that every senior and caregiver needs to understand to stay safe, legal, and financially protected.

Gudthots

Brave says…

While there is no nationwide federal law for seniors over 65, a federal framework introduced in late 2025 and fully active by January 2026 encourages states to adopt consistent safety measures for drivers aged 70 and older, including vision checks, medical reporting, and refresher courses.

 These are not mandatory for all states but must be followed at a minimum.

Tesla’s FSD (Full Self Driving) is going to help tens of millions of seniors.

Tesla is rolling out cybercabs (a.k.a. robotaxis) right now in multiple states. By the end of this year there should be at least 50,000 of them, and they should be in almost every state.

They expect to double production every month, which would be way over 10,000,000 worldwide in 2027.

Cost per mile should be around 1/4th of what it costs for an Uber. Probably cheaper than public transportation like a bus, and it will show up at your door in about 5 minutes.

Take you anywhere you want to go, like a taxi with no driver. So you never have to worry about the driver, and his citizenship status, criminal record, driving skills, professionalism, etc.

When you’re ready to go home, just use your personal tracking device (cell phone) to call another cybercab, and it should pick you up in 5 minutes.

Many people won’t need (or want) a personally owned car anymore. Between the savings in car payments, car maintenance, car insurance, license plate fees, driver’s license fees, gas, etc., it should be orders of magnitude cheaper for most people to use a cybercab on an annual basis.

And issues like declining reflexes, strength, mobility, eyesight, etc., will no longer be a barrier for seniors to go wherever they want to go, whenever they want to 👍

I used to like MTG until I did not.MTG is a loos cannon and accusing our government without proof is reckless. In the Epstein saga there are many hidden acts and not one is like the other. There are people who never did anything nefarious. Whatever pido stuff was going on are mostly democrats what I have seen. Would I like to get justice yes but with corrupted judges I am not sure we are going to get it. I remember reading from Q
Paraphrased ” they will not be able to walk the streets>” Maybe that is the most we can hope for.
Massie is a tool do not know whose so is MTG. Personally when I listen to her I come away that she is stupid or gullible.

I haven’t used AI and am not clear about the various forms it takes. At first I only heard of a few AI companies, if that’s the right word. Now it seems that every day I hear of a new AI-related something-or-other. I suppose a lot of those are AI agents.

First there was AI that worked as a super search engine. Now I gather there are AI coders as well as agents. Agents appear to be what people interact with in personal ways as something they converse with, refer to, and rely on. The agent keeps a record of their data, input, and interactions, and can have ongoing conversations over time. In that sense, the AI can become like the friendliest “friend,” always listening to one’s desires and altering its communication accordingly. Apart from privacy issues, some aspects of this don’t seem healthy to me.

You are better off with a dog.

It was rumored that new recruits to the clandestine operations division of the Clowns In America were told,

If you work here and need a friend, get a dog.

EVENING PRAYERS

Gratitude Prayers

Prayer of Daily Thanks

Heavenly Father, as the sun sets, I want to pause and say thank You. For the little things like a warm cup of tea to the big things like my family’s laughter, I’m grateful. Each moment of this day has been a gift, and I thank You for the blessings, both seen and unseen. Let my sleep be a thank you, my dreams be praise, and my night whispers echo with gratitude. Amen.

A Prayer for the Gifts of Life

Dear Lord, under the evening sky, I come before You filled with appreciation. For the breath in my lungs, the food on my table, and the love in my home, I am truly thankful. Help me to always notice the countless gifts You provide and to never take them for granted. I rest in Your care, grateful for today and hopeful for tomorrow. Amen.

Thanksgiving for Enduring Love

Gracious God, as I lay down tonight, I reflect on Your unending love and care. Thank you for guiding me through this day, for the smiles shared, and for the kindness I received. Your love is a constant in a world that often changes, and for this steadfast love, I give You thanks. As I close my eyes, I feel the peace of a grateful heart. Amen.

Evening Gratitude for Strength and Guidance

Lord of all comfort, I am thankful tonight, not just for the good but also for the strength You gave me in challenging moments. Thank you for the wisdom in decisions and the courage in facing my fears. Your guidance is a lantern to my feet. As the stars appear, I thank You for lighting my path today and every day. Amen.

Sunset Thanks for Life’s Journey

Almighty Creator, every sunset reminds me of Your glory and the journey You’ve laid out for me. I am grateful for the paths I’ve walked today, the lessons learned, and the growth experienced. Thank You for being my compass and my companion. As the night unfolds, I count my blessings, and atop the list is Your unwavering presence in my life. Amen.

FBI & ICE Raid Minnesota Warehouse — Cartel Laundered $240M Through Fake Shipments

Robert Paul – 02/14/2026

Rosa

This video had no note at bottom. You had to listen to the whole thing before near the end the AI voice says it was a fictional story.

The legacy media already makes it difficult to tell what’s true. Soon it will be nearly impossible to tell what’s real. 😟 We need some AI-busters!

duchess01

Wondered about that ‘indicator’ slipped in, Rosa –

Agree – it is getting annoying – I have to admit I get excited about getting the bad guys !!! 🙃

Gudthots

These days, if it seems like good news, that’s when my suspicious cat comes out and starts asking questions! 😂

pgroup2

We need some AI-busters!

Sounds like that could be the basis of a new cottage industry that A.I. can’t do.

Aubergine

My son thinks, and I agree, that AI is the death-knell for the internet as we currently know it.

He thinks the “web” will become many smaller webs, easier to police and control. Like for example, each of the fifty states might have their own. Or individual countries.

cthulhu

There are points where I both agree and disagree with this thought.

Part of my disagreement lies with the expression “internet as we currently know it”, because much of what we think we know of the internet today is garbage. In large parts it is not secure; it is not anonymous; it does not maintain privacy; it is not accurate; and its viewpoint is neither dispassionate nor neutral.

I do not, however, think the “web” will become many smaller webs. I think that people’s web access will continue to expand at the same time as people increasingly cocoon themselves within trusted zones.

cthulhu

On the theory that “it takes one to know one”, AI will likely become more adept at identifying AI than any human could be.

mollypitcher5

You’re so right. I began to suspect it when the same pictures were used in a couple of vids. AI lie news needs to be clearly marked at the top.

Gail Combs

That you for figuring it out.

I wish they would put a written disclaimer in the notes below the title,

One zip code (11232, Sunset Park) has 30,181 residents and $3.8 BILLION in Medicaid claims.

What’s even stranger is that the average income is $90K, the poverty rate is below 20%, and it is one of the younger zip codes in the area.

https://rumble.com/v75rcp6-tim-burchett-says-obama-was-created-by-the-deep-state-and-let-jeffrey-epste.html

Aubergine

TB, I swear I feel like I am living in two different universes right now.

On one side are the people who are reading the files, looking at the emails, and listening to people like Burchett. THEY say the world is being run by pedophilic, satanic, horrible monsters.

On the other side is the group who says “nothing to see here,” “Thomas Massie is an a-hole” for ever insisting the files be released, Epstein was just a lone pervert, there’s no “Deep State.” And some of this group is on OUR side!

I just do not get it. At all.

TradeBait2

Same ole denial, gal. We have to be careful what dark allies we go down, but much of this stuff is real and as you know, goes back to Genesis. It’s like they do not believe the archaeological digs where entire civilizations disappeared (like in Mexico) because of similar evil. All they have to do is look at some of these drug cartels and picture them in charge of a large area or country. That flows into the populations and what they think and how they live. Look at what is happening in Minnesota, Cali for decades, Chicago, NYC. Look at the sex cults that have been exposed. It’s the same, it’s real.

Marina Abramović’s involvement with all of the sick elitists should have been the first clue, but they reveal it in their art, entertainment choices, literature, aversion to traditional Christianity, etc. as well.

Some people can not see EVIL literally. My mom was like that. Some just can not believe it exists. And some are so concerned with their own lives they are not interested.

gil00

Thats so true. They refuse. And worse, dismiss it.

TradeBait2

So true, Gail. They have innate abilities to compartmentalize.

Gudthots

Many people do not have the capacity to handle the emotional overload that comes with seeing great evil. In Hebrews 1 we are told that is was “for the joy set before him.”

Neurologically speaking, we must grow emotional capacity. God’s design is that we grow our ability to handle large emotions through developing joy capacity.

I recall a definition of emotional overwhelm, “when our level of distress is greater than our joy capacity.” It is a gift from God to shut off that which will overwhelm in a destructive way.

However, the higher path is to grow emotional resiliency, which is mainly done within the context of healthy relationships. This seems to be part of what the Q movement was saying when it talks about us being available to help others process what is revealed.

Aubergine

Agreed.

gil00

I feel the same. I did go on the chans andvread a lot those years ago….they found things that were no in the Q posts and i had to limit what i saw then. There is a there there and our “leaders” have been involved. Why we dont have that cleared by now i dont know.

One hour discussion:

“UNDER DESTRUCTION”: The Munich Conference Admits It’s Over

They’re admitting what we’ve been telling you: the post-1945 British-run international order — they call it the “rules-based order” — is finished.

Donald Trump killed it. And they admit in the same publication that their populations hate them. That’s what their “Under Destruction” title means.

This conference is like a Davos of the Deep State. It’s where the intelligence and security mavens of the former globalist order convened every year to plot their plans against the Empire’s enemies.

This is a message that WSB left at Sylvia’s (over an hour ago):

Thank you so much Sylvia.
TH passed peacefully at 3:12AM this morning.
He will be devastatingly missed by many. I am speechless.
Mount Sinai did not have any social workers on the unit this morning, so I sat with his body for 5 1/2 hours before realizing that I was supposed to call a funeral home immediately.
The social worker on Thursday told me that I could take my time.
Just devastating.
A truly humble thank you to all who helped lift him up.
TH is God’s child now.

Prayers for TH & WSB

PAVACA

O M G
I’m so sorry for WSB!

Her husband was on a ventilator, and then removed from it?

Prayers for both WSB and her husband. He’s with the Almighty God now. Please, Lord, send Deep Comfort to our good WSB.

K1tt7-fzn

WSB wrote this on Feb 10th:

All,
I have been so remiss on contributing lately.
TH and I have been on such a roller coaster, I wish I had time to tell.
First, I cannot thank you all enough for your prayers.
Beyond measure.
Second, this blog keeps me going. I am in completely uncharted waters, so having this group surrounding and supporting me is momentous.
I remember when patrick was going through his transition, how much we all hung on together.
The short story is that TH has had a bout of Autoimmune Encephalitis after having his original Disc-itis infection from his aortic valve replacement surgery.
Taller Half and I have hit the end of the road.
He has had three episodes of seizures. The seizures were stopped but not before an area of his brain, which regulates breathing, was affected.
Bottom line, TH will never be able to be off a ventilator.
Today, I moved him to the Palliative Care Unit at Mount Sinai.
And they will soon want to disengage the vent.
Our 43 year fling was a thing of beauty.
As TH’s friend reminded me yesterday, TH and I had 43 years of the most loving relationship he has ever witnessed…when most people can’t even survive 2 years together.
I tip my hat to all of you for being so precious.
❤️

**and from the daily prayer that Sylvia posts, it seems that WSB’s TH was taken off the ventilator last night.

PAVACA

Thank you for the information. How heartbreaking for WSB — and for her husband.
God be with WSB now.
