Glorify God in Everything
The concept of “glorifying” God is that of honoring God with our lives. First Corinthians 10:31 teaches believers to honor the Lord in all they do: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” The context of this verse includes a discussion of the freedom believers have in Christ. We are free to make personal choices in life, but we are not to do anything that causes another person to “stumble” or sin in his own walk with God. We are to seek the good of others (1 Corinthians 10:32–33).
Further, believers may have the “right” to do anything, but not everything is beneficial (1 Corinthians 10:23). Paul used the illustration of eating meat that had been dedicated to idols. To him, such a dedication meant nothing since idols are not real gods. However, he would abstain from ever eating meat again for the good of others who might sin by following his example. Believers serve the Lord both through their personal lives and in their actions toward others.
To glorify God requires full commitment to Him. In Colossians 3:23 we read, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” The context includes Paul’s directions for Christian slaves working for human masters. Even in this role, their work was to be done as if they were serving Jesus (Colossians 3:24). To honor or glorify God in everything includes having a strong work ethic, even when we work for those we do not like or labor in difficult situations.
Glorifying God in everything means we honor Him in our thoughts and actions. Our thoughts are to be set on the things of God (Psalm 1) and the Word of God (Psalm 119:11). When we focus on God’s Word, we know what is right and can follow through with doing what is right.
Jesus always glorified His Father in heaven. There was never a moment when He did not glorify God. Our Lord’s every thought, word, and action was totally devoted to the glory of God. When Jesus faced the temptations of Satan (Matthew 4:1–11), Jesus quoted Scripture all three times. Jesus was a man of the Word, fully committed to God’s will, and His example in overcoming temptation offers hope to all of us who seek to stand firm during times of testing.
Another way we glorify God in everything we do is in the proper treatment of our bodies. In speaking of sexual immorality, 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 teaches, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
To glorify God in everything, we must exercise faith (Hebrews 11:6), love without hypocrisy (Romans 12:9), deny ourselves (Luke 9:23), be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18), and offer ourselves as “living sacrifices” to God (Romans 12:1). Every area of life is important to evaluate and live to its fullest for the glory and honor of God. We should strive for every thought and deed to bring joy to our Father in heaven.

I think calling it “heresy” is over the top.
I once co-lead a counseling/discussion group on that church’s pastor’s book, The Rhythm of Life: Balancing Work, Worship, Rest, & Play. I also tried to put the behaviors in discussed in the book into practice in my own life at that time. This was during my last year in grad school but I still chose to take a Sabbath rest on a weekly basis, at least part of the year. I really tried to do no work, including school work on that Sabbath.
It was Amazing how refreshing it was to give yourself “permission” to set down the many tasks that clutter our lives. I read for pleasure, had fellowship that I usually denied myself during the school year, attended church, played games. It was pretty wonderful. The amazing thing was that I didn’t fall behind on tasks but had better energy & focus on those things that I Had to do when they were confined to Six Days a Week!
God set us the Sabbath Rest Example for a reason!

NINE of the original Ten Commandments are explicitly reiterated in the New Testament. The only one that was not is keeping the Sabbath.
I think God means for me to keep Him holy on every day. I don’t think a day of the week could be that important to the Creator of everything, who exists OUTSIDE of time.
I think the Sabbath was given to the Jews to a) give them a valid and legitimate reason for a day of the week to rest, since they were captives and slaves for a lot of their history; and b) as another law for them to follow because they were so disobedient they needed more rules, not less.
That’s my two cents.
It is understood to keep Him in our heart mind and spirit at all times. Sabbath Sunday is also for us to fallow the example of God to create 6 days and rest on day 7. That is how I see it but each person has to reconcile within ourself. God will be my judge not I.

Personally, I see the whole Saturday v. Sunday discussion legalistic. Christ eliminated legalism from worship. He does not want empty worship and worshippers.
Carl’s discussion above states to glorify God in everything. That is 24/7 every day. Charlie did the Sabbath his way for his purposes, he said so. I do it my way for my purposes. Others may have to work on Saturdays or Sundays and need to do it whenever. The point is to glorify God at all times and yes, set aside one day for rest, to reflect, and to be thankful for His grace and goodness to us all.
Yes Charlie held Sabbath for himself and his family. I always understood God set an example he created in 6 days and all was good and rested day 7. Christians fallowed His example for over 1000 years until greed seeped into business and opened stores to make more money keeping them open 7 days a week . The devil stalks the earth trying to divert, divide, mislead all who do not keep watch.
Fallowing a ritual is not legalistic it gives structure and purpose in life and helps us to remember who and whose we are. Just my take on the subject.

It was a beautiful town in the finger lakes area of NY.
Robinson needs to look deeper into Christians who helped minimized Sunday as our Sabbath time with God. I remember a time when Saturdays 4 PM all stores closed until Mondays. Sunday was a time for church , family . friends and walk out into nature.
We Christians stood by idle when Sunday turned to shopping and Soccer for the kids.
I heard excuses people need to shop Sunday because people work. What happened to Saturday to shop? People worked many years ago also and managed to shop.
The people eat out Sunday after church and while other Christians have to work to serve them. If we Christians truly believe in our Sabbath Sunday we have to stop shopping or do anything that makes other Christians have to work on Sunday.
I do not shop on Sunday do not eat out on Sunday in order to keep Sunday free to reflect to renew. My Sabbath begins Saturday after 4 PM until Monday. I feel much better keeping a ritual a schedule in my life.
The moral is Christians need to reflect what each can do to push back to the secularization of our society. Only we can change it instead of looking what others do. Robinson needs to check her dislike of Jews.

We did not know that Pres. Trump was going to pardon Tina Peters. WIth this information that is new to us, part of the groundwork has already been set. A presidential pardon provides weight to the argument that she was acting in a federal capacity, and it is already in place for (hopefully) when this gets worked out. I hope that will be ASAP.
Let’s say that Pres. Trump and his entire administration are heartless people who have no empathy and don’t care about Tina Peters. Such people would not want a prisoner who was working to safeguard our elections, and therefore was working to ensure that Trump and other Republicans were elected, to die in prison without their doing everything possible to do what is just and right. That wouldn’t look good politically. It would anger the base. It would make them look as if they’re caving to the Left. Too many people entertain the idea that something like that is true.

when i worked at a Roy Rogers restaurant (in my teenage years) the owner taught us that if a customer asked for UNsalted fries, we should comply and showed us how to make a single serving batch. He respected some of the elderly regular customers had salt restrictions. I’m not sure you can ask for them at other establishments–but if you could, you would always get fresh HOT fries.

I drove her crazy by getting back at her going from strait A to F to prove her right and embarrass her and then back to strait A. I wish I had known I was only punishing myself . Strudel recipe as promised 😃
Preheat oven 350 F
Bake for 45. Keep an eye on it so it does not get to brown’ My oven it takes about 40 until finished
For the dough – ( flour I use Italian 00 organic soft wheat flour , Molino Grassi. I buy i at Wholefoods . Amazon has it also.
3 cups Flour
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 cup Butter.
1 beaten Egg
2/3warm water
Mix together flour and salt, cut in the butter sir until crumbly.
Mix egg with water; add to flour stir.
Turn on to floured surface knead for 5 minutes until dough comes together. Cover and let rest at room temp for 1 hour. ( I use a warm ceramic bowl to cover the dough.
While the dough is resting prep apple filling
Dough can be divided into two parts
After 1 hour flour a clean large clothe ( I use linen but any large towel will do. Make sure it is big like double a normal dish towel. I have seen people use a half size table clothe.
Roll out the dough it will stretch like pizza dough. Use the back of your hands keep stretching the dough into a large thin square.
Trim uneven edges. Melt 1/4 cup butter and brush it onto the dough.
Apple filling
2/3 cup sugar ( I use less)
2 tsp ground cinnamon
8 apples depending on size more or less. Apples thin sliced and pealed
1/2 currants ( I soak them in Brandy the night before and drain the the next day.
Some sliced almonds or walnuts amount not more than 1/4 cup depends on taste
In a bowl combine cinnamon and sugar mix well. Ad slices of apples. Mix well.
Depending if you make one or two strudel. Divide filling if making two .
Spread apple mixture evenly on the dough.
Taking the edge of the lo the towel and roll the dough with apple filling then put on your baking sheet.
You might want to look on You Tube how it is done.
Before putting the strudel in the oven I like to mix an egg with some cream and brush the strudel with it.
When strudel cooled I put powder sugar on it. Strudel is extra nice with whipping cream while serving. Good luck Ask me questions anytime.

Update on our visit home:
Mom’s surprise Christmas party was a success–she was so happy she cried–everybody came to see me! she said over and over again.
We did have several “uninvited guests” as well. The activities room (and most of the open spaces do not lock) so residents were wandering in when they saw the food on the table. Some were downright angry when they could not get a place at the table, but we gently told them their lunch was waiting for them in the cafeteria. We offered some cookies and sent them on their way.
After the rest of the family left, we walked back to Mom’s room and I put the walker bag on her walker and it was a really good fit. She really loves it. Then we sat and chatted for about another half hour and then we left.

every Christmas since we moved up here into the woods, we have our annual Christmas party at Mom’s and pray the weather holds. We live 4 hours to the north of all the rest of the family. We’ve had snow on and off since Thanksgiving and I was praying the weather wouldn’t ruin it this year. I am very grateful we could still do this with her.

because of the distance, we only get to see her once a month and if the weather is too bad, maybe longer, but this is her first Christmas in this place, and I wanted her to realize we’re all still going to be with her!

My daughter and family will come for Christmas the first in 30 years. I am cleaning doing prep work for meals so I will not have to much work when they are here. We shopped in Columbus for all the meat the other day. I prep Roladen ( German beef rol’s)and cabbage and some other meals. I am cooking all the meals they wished I should make for them. Schnitzel is another one they ask for and a fruit torte and apple strudel. Bake some breads including sourdoughs. Still have to make cookies. Time is running out because I am mostly good working until 3 PM and then I get tired and need to rest until fixing dinner. Acceptance is my friend 🙄 😂

The seeing part is important, seeing and being seen.
Seems like video calls should be an easy thing to implement these days, and it might mean a lot, especially to elderly who don’t live near enough to see their family in person very often.
she has a regular phone in her room, no cellphone or computer, so that’s not really an option for her.
I do call her daily and we chat though. my brother and his wife live relatively close and they visit several evenings a week.
I suspect in the next year, Elon’s Starlink global satellite system and recently purchased communications spectrum will allow for consumer product desktop video phones, like the kind of thing that has been in science fiction for probably a hundred years or more.
A 20″ or larger monitor with built in camera, with a base that has a built in keypad. No computer required, no phone jack required, it just connects to a wireless modem that plugs into an electrical wall outlet.
You dial out, just like a regular old fashioned push-button telephone, and if the person you are calling also has a video phone, you see each other, while you’re talking on a high quality speaker phone.
It will be as easy as using any phone we grew up with — no computer knowledge or experience required 👍🙂

A few years back my brother that lives in OK, but was in TX then, was visiting my parents & he &/or his wife alluded to something he needed to apologize to me for but he wasn’t ready then. A couple years later they were in town again & this time he “apologized”. However, he never said what exactly he was sorry for.
I told him that I bore him no ill will & forgave him, for not sure what. The thing that was strange as I tried to puzzle out what he had felt so bad about I dredged up several different scenarios where, from my view, he had wronged me. It was kind of bizarre because had he Specified what the issue was directly then the air would have been cleared. But since it went unsaid there was a degree of ambiguity to the whole process.
I’m all for straightforward talk, but it can be quite challenging when difficult emotions are connected to the topic on any party’s part. It’s even More of a minefield if Both parties are dealing with heavy emotional baggage.
Well God knows your heart & maybe someday He’ll work on your brother’s heart enough that he’ll be straight with you on the historical issue so he can let go of his bitterness & stop blaming you for some “error” that you have no memory about.

Confidence for deliverance. (1-5) Christ’s work of redemption. (6-10) Prayer for mercy and grace. (11-17)
6-10 The psalmist foretells that work of wonder, redemption by our Lord Jesus Christ. The Substance must come, which is Christ, who must bring that glory to God, and that grace to man, which it was impossible the sacrifices should ever do. Observe the setting apart of our Lord Jesus to the work and office of Mediator. In the volume, or roll, of the book it was written of him. PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Up in the Netherlands they have massive greenhouses spreading all over the countryside, where they grow tomatoes, peppers, and other warm-weather crops that otherwise wouldn’t be able to be grown there. Bakocarl, while reading your post this morning I was drawn to reconsider my way of thinking about idols. In times past I would often use the term idol when referring to false gods, effectively using the terms as interchangeable designations of the same thing.
While reading your post these sentences caught my attention: Paul used the illustration of eating meat that had been dedicated to idols. To him, such a dedication meant nothing since idols are not real gods. This requires me to think again about how I use these terms. So I ask a question of my library to see how the subject has been treated. Here is what I found. I am curious as to your own, and others, thinking on the subject
Q In Scriptures, Is there a difference between an idol and a false god?
Scripture distinguishes between these concepts in ways that reveal their fundamental nature and spiritual danger.
An idol is explicitly described as “nothing at all in the world,” (1 Cor 8:4–6) emphasizing its material emptiness and lack of inherent power. Idols are fashioned from silver and gold by human hands—objects with mouths that cannot speak, eyes that cannot see, ears that cannot hear, and hands that cannot feel. (Ps 115:4–8) The technical distinction lies in how people relate to these objects: a statue may merely represent a supernatural being, but an idol is believed to possess inherent supernatural powers, becoming an idol when people treat it as a god rather than a mere representation.1
False gods, by contrast, operate on a different level. While idols themselves are nothing, the sacrifices offered to them are actually directed toward demons, not God. (1 Cor 10:19–20) Scripture identifies these false gods as demons—entities that are not God but possess real spiritual force. (Deut 32:16–17) In biblical theology, Satan and fallen angels have objective existence, and although false gods originate from idolatrous imagination, they accumulate a coercive power that lends them demonic force.2
The distinction becomes clearer through their effects: Though an idol is “nothing,” no one can touch it without consequence—contact with the false god infects people with spiritual blindness of heart and mind.3 Idolatry encompasses both worshipping a god who is not the true God and worshipping the true God in the wrong way—not merely the worship of something false, but false worship itself.4
In summary, idols are physical nothings created by human hands, while false gods represent real spiritual powers—demons—that operate behind idolatrous practice. The danger lies not in the idol’s material substance but in the spiritual reality it connects people to.
AVODAH ZARAH Finally, we encounter the biblical notion of avodah zarah, which literally means “strange worship.” The term Avodah zarah is frequently used in the Hebrew scriptures in connection with idolatry. This third and final category highlights the distinction between two different forms of idolatry: (1) the strangeness of the subject of worship—worshipping a God who is not the true God, and (2) the strangeness of worship itself: worshipping the true God in something other than the right way. It introduces a new twist on the notion of idolatry—not the worship of something that is false, but the false worship of something that is true. This is an extraordinary concept that has many potential ramifications for contemporary thinking about worship. How do we define the right and wrong ways to worship God? Is any sincere attempt to worship appropriate? When Psalm 51:10 says “Create in me a clean heart, O God,” does that mean that if our heart is clean, we are absolved of the actual effects of our actions in the world? Perhaps our heart is clean because we don’t know enough to understand what we are actually doing. It is easy to see how the questions can multiply quickly when it comes to this form of idolatry.

That’s an interesting breakdown. If I’m understanding correctly (emphasis mine):

I agree with that. I can’t overlook the close relationship between the two, though. We are commanded not to have idols even apart from worshipping them, so idols are not harmless. (And I don’t think the author is claiming that they are.)

I don’t think there’s a reason to have an idol if one does not ascribe powers to it and/or worship it. Here, it seems assumed that having idols entails worshipping them, at least to my understanding:

It looks as if, in the rest of I Corinthians 10, Paul is saying that people don’t have to legalistically question what is being set before them. If it has been sacrificed to idols and they don’t know it, it’s not a problem. It they are made aware that is has been sacrificed to idols, they should not eat it “for conscience sake.” IMO the idol and the worship of it, while technically two separate things, are inextricably linked.

That is why bakocarl’s post this morning caused a flare in my notions about such things. We are studying Acts in our church currently. There has been a lot of discussion in the last two weeks about idols, and what they are and can be.

I was just reading the review for a movie I have not seen, called “Dogma” (1999, comedy drama, starring Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Linda Fiorentino, Salma Hayek, Jason Lee, Jason Mewes), at blu-ray.com.
It is being re-released on 4K UHD blu-ray, and the reviewer (Jeffrey Kauffman) refers to his standard blu-ray review from 2009 (link) for his comments about the film itself, while only commenting on the technical merits of the new 4K restoration in the current release (link).
Kauffman mentions that he was born into a family with one Jewish parent and one Christian parent, and they lived in Salt Lake City, at a time when it was even more Mormon than it is today.

“Benjamin Erickson, the man in custody for Saturday’s deadly shooting, has been pictured for the first time.
A LinkedIn profile for the suspect notes that he served as an infantry soldier in the US Army, where he passed sniper training, had experience with different types of firearms and served as a rifleman from 2021 through 2024.
For his service, Erickson received a good conduct medal, his LinkedIn page shows.
It also states that he participated in ‘security duties’ near the president and assisted with funeral ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery.
The LinkedIn page further notes that he was open to volunteering opportunities – listing a variety of causes from animal welfare, civil rights, gender equity, public safety and refugee and migrant support.
The suspect took classes online from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee after graduating high school, with a focus on psychology.
He then transferred to Brown for the fall semester, after his military service ended, according to the LinkedIn page.”

That’s not true if he yelled the equivalent of “aloha snackbar.” That is not unique at all. It is used all the time. Something like “Kill the J__s” is not unique either. Nor is “Death to America.” or any of the phrases that terrorists use.
A unique phrase would be something about the university or that class or someone in the class. It’s possible it was a targeted attack because of a personal matter, but I think it’s much more likely to have been another “aloha snackbar” incident, which, sadly, is not unique.
