We’re going to have to build up to the punchline of this story. Can’t give away the goods right away. Ya’ know? So, grab a cup of covfefe and settle in for a few moments.
We opened for business in 1994 as a B&B. The same year, Tunica, MS, opened the first casino, other than Atlantic City or Vegas. The place was a dive and looked like a blown up version of a cheap mobile home but it didn’t matter. The place was a CASH COW. In fact, the Casino made so much money in the beginning days, they had to close down, to bring in more people, so they had enough time to count all the money.
The people who ran “The Splash Casino” came to see me, as there was no hotel space anywhere close by. They offered to take all my rooms for year, and pay me quite well. Yet, they wanted all the rooms. If I was a contractor and they “owned me”, we would have no independence. Husband had visions of wild gamblers, tearing apart the home we worked so hard to restore. Not what a biz owner wants. We would rather have 100 companies than solely contracted to one. “What are you going to do if they bring in a bunch of hookers?”, he said, “How are you going to tell them, NO?” The realization washed over me. “Hookers….?”, I thought. My eyebrows twitched like the tail of a squirrel. “Grandma Della would disown me……”, of course, I turned them down.
By ’95, we were open about a year and in full swing, but as most small biz owners can relate, I was worried about the NEXT month. The house was pristine, renovated from top to bottom by my new husband, the best historical renovation contractor within 100 miles – and it was his own home. Our banker REALLY wanted me to fail. His wife loved my house. At that point, there was no business I turned down. Pressure was on, I had to be successful, failure was not an option.
Outside of our little town, we had a local printing plant which printed monthly periodicals and magazines for clients all over the world. Their clients would come to visit to negotiate large contracts, or their editors would visit for press-checks. Many of them stayed with us, and the printing company was a terrific client. As we started decorating for Christmas, one local exec asked me if he could host a private luncheon, for new clients they were trying to impress. I took the job. It was lunch, I thought…… easy peasy.
With help from a few overeducated-housewife-girlfriends as my makeshift staff, and Grandma Della washing dishes, the first luncheon was a rousing success. One luncheon melded into 10, then 20. Before long, I was raking in $1500 a day, for high end luncheons, as hundreds of millions of dollars traded hands over my dining room table. Then, the company decided to do long, private dinners, with several courses. Fine entertaining, and the big southern white house. We had to “take it up a notch”. No problem. As the staff said, “Martha Stewart ain’t got shit on us.”
All the activity at our house began to attract attention. I thought, “Hey, if the townspeople were talking about me, maybe they would leave someone else alone.” I brushed it off. Everyone wanted to know what was happening, who was coming, what I was cooking. People began to stop me in the grocery store, picking through items in the basket, and asking me about recipes. It was a little weird. Yet, I was quiet and secretive about our guests, respecting their privacy.
Pam was a 6th grade teacher at the school next door to the house. Her classroom looked out into our driveway. She was also the spinster sister of my husband’s first wife, and a horrible gossip. At one point, she was convinced she saw a naked man, through lace-covered windows, upstairs in our house (which would have been impossible to discern from her vantage point). Then, she saw the man run out of the house, quickly (executive late for work). He left, ……..then returned, ……with a black bag, “big enough for a weapon” (his briefcase – he forgot the receipt for his expense account), as she would later describe to police. Yes, she called the police, as she explained, because she was worried I had been murdered, “cuz I was alone with that foreign-looking man in a big house”. Four police cars responded, including the Chief, “cuz Miss Daughn was in trouble”.
That’s right, Pam called the police on the President of San Diego Home and Garden.
We were working so hard, we barely had time to breath. At the time, I didn’t even have a car. Everything we had went into the renovation. A buddy lent me his daughter’s car for a little while to run errands. Pam knew the car and wondered who was living at my house (a new rumor she could spread). Pam should have worked for CNN. She would have been wonderful speculating about the Russian Hoax. A few weeks later, I was sitting in the car, in the driveway, making out my bank deposit slip. From the corner of my eye, I spotted Pam, walking our wrought-iron fence line, staring at the windows of our home, straining to see any activity. As she came even with the car, I LAID on the horn and scared the heck out of her. I rolled down the window and said, “Will you PLEASE leave me alone? You’re embarrassing yourself.” As she scurried back to her classroom, the realization hit me, I needed to calm people down and be a little more public. Work within the system, the small town culture, and not cause such a ruckus. Who would have known luncheons and dinners could be so exciting?
My mother-in-law was a perfect press agent for the older ladies. I gave her copies of menus and various recipes and photos of tables. At McDonald’s afternoon covfefe, the ladies had much to discuss. Mother-in-law was happy ….. and the ladies gave me a LOT of handy tips. For the younger women, I relented and told the staff they could talk about what we served, and what we did, but NEVER who was here. For a few weeks, our new plan of information dissemination seemed to be working.
Of course, all that changed when the black limousines arrived and lined up in front of the house, four of them in a row.
It was a Thursday.
The town has cattle auctions on Thursday, and one of my best staff members handled the tickets for the auction. It put us down, one strong staff member, but our printing client really needed to schedule a big luncheon……. that Thursday. The lower-level exec customers spent the night with us. Therefore, by morning, we were all familiar with each other. One guy went for a jog before breakfast and noticed a large “wounded” German Shepard in a neighbor’s yard. I went out to check. No, it was a loose calf….. which is why it didn’t “come when he called it”. We straightened out that problem before 7:00am. The functionaries, who spent the night with me, went off to the plant after breakfast. The big bosses were flying in for lunch on the corporate jet. We would all meet back at our house at noon.
The girls arrived and we whipped into action.
About 11:40am, the sedans with execs from the plant arrived, and they tried to nose their way into the kitchen. Pretty soon, maybe ten minutes later, the limo’s arrived, four of them, one for each big boss, and lined up, the whole breadth of my wrought-iron fence. The bosses filed into the house. I was… you know…. being social and introducing everyone to each other. Hors d’oeuvres were ready, and the kitchen was humming. Everything was perfect, on schedule…… when the phone rang.
A girlfriend rushed out of the kitchen and told me the Mayor was on the phone, demanding to speak with me. I was confused, but okay, fine. I went to the phone, leaving my guests. I was annoyed, a little bit, because he was putting a kink in my schedule. He said, “You better tell me right now, is Donald Trump at your house?” I had no idea what he was talking about but very curious as to how he got the impression the billionaire from New York was at my house in Mississippi. Not willing to let on and sensing an opportunity, out loud, I said, “You know I cannot and will not tell you who is a guest of this house. It’s private.” I hung up on him.
I turned to go back to the guests, but before I left, the phone rang again. It was our good staff member at the cattle auction across town, “Is Donald Trump at your house?”
“What was she talking about?”, I thought. Something was going on, but I still had no clue. Was Trump supposed to be here?, I wondered. Unwilling to relent, I replied, “Well……, not yet, but ya’ never know who will show up here.” Trying to close the conversation and get back to serving, I told her the big bosses were here and we had to go. She said, “I can’t BELIEVE I’m missing Donald Trump”, which I had neither confirmed nor denied.. at all.
8 minutes to serving time, two staff members filling iced tea and water glasses.
I was still on the phone with girlfriend at the cattle auction, when the Mayor burst through the back door. He had a full head of steam and he was pointing at me. He was 6’4″ and 100% alpha male, “You ARE going to tell me WHO is in that dining room, right now.” and “If Donald Trump is going to put a casino, here, in Tunica, I deserve to know, NOW!” I was blockading the dining room door. I started, “No, you cannot go in there.” We were friendly-arguing with the Mayor, in a too small kitchen, on top of other women who were trying to keep to the schedule – to serve my best client in less than 5 minutes. I noticed my girlfriends, who had all been in the kitchen prior to the big bosses arriving, were whispering to each other, suddenly curious about who was in the front of the house.
The buzzer for the bread went off, …..time, ……ticking away. 4 minutes to serving time, I really needed to be in the dining room. 3 minutes left, but before I could recover, husband burst through the back door. “SHhhhhhhhhhh!”, I insisted, silencing them all. Husband countered, “Is Donald Trump in our fu$king dining room?”
Everyone looked at me like it was 3 minutes to Christmas morning. “No, Donald Trump is not in the dining room.”, I said, disappointing them all…… Finally, “Why do you all think Donald Trump is here?”, as I had no idea how they got the impression in the first place. Lots of grumbles and shuffling of feet. “Stay here”, I said to husband and Mayor. We presented the bread and salads and went back to the kitchen for answers. I caught the Mayor peeking out of the dining room door, confirming Donald Trump was NOT in my dining room.
In the ten minutes between salad and soup, we figured out the mystery. Apparently, no limousine service in Memphis had 4 black Mercedes limousines available at the same time. Thus, they ‘borrowed’ four limousines from the current casino. The license plates all read, Trump 1, Trump 2, Trump 3, and Trump 4.
The rumor spread like a wildfire, “Donald Trump is at Daughn’s house.”
To compound the rumor, we were trying to be nice and fed the limo drivers a lovely lunch. One of the guys helping me that day was a big guy, former Navy. With all the black tuxedoed limo drivers and my big Navy guy – they turned into the “Security Detail” for Donald Trump.
No, it was really just lunch.
Gotta love a small town.

The President's Tax Return and $467 of Italian Bolillos.
There’s no way in hell the President should release his tax returns.

Background: I was an accountant. I worked for Fortune 50 Banks, Investment Houses, and Insurance Companies, ending as a partner in a small brokerage firm out of Miami. Because I was the designated test taker in the office, I had every license offered from the SEC, Series 6, then 7, Series 22 for REIT’s, and I could even sell commodities, 4X, and gold. I was a CFP, a ChFC, a CLU, and RHU, and an LUTCF. Most of the work was for small to medium sized businesses, and estate work for clients from Manhattan to Chile. Throughout my corp career, I represented over 300 clients and their families in front of the IRS for final disposition of assets. I’ve testified as an expert, and back in the day, I was one heckuva forensic accountant.
For the President’s tax return, it would have taken a team of 30-50 people, probably far better than me, and two years of time (at least), to accurately audit a single year. Yeah, at least two years and maybe more like 5 years.
Most people work FOR a company. They receive a W-2, add in a few deductions if they own a home, have medical or childcare expenses, and take a deduction for tithing to a church, etc. A business owners’ taxes, and the audit of those taxes, is completely different. EVERYTHING a business owner touches has the potential for a deduction in varying percentages. If a person owns MORE than one business, or businesses in more than one state, or more than one country, the tax return becomes exponentially complex.
President Trump is a named principal in over 512 entities. He owns portions of many more companies, in many states and countries. Imagine the overwhelming task of auditing such a tax return. MILLIONS of decisions and rulings would have to be made and each decision would change the bottom line amount of taxes due……, which is why anyone CAN release a tax return while under audit……… but it’s a horrible idea…….. because the bottom line number will change and only necessitate an explanation as to WHY the bottom line number changes.
Now, imagine how complex the return would become if viewed by those with a political bias.
To understand how difficult this can be, let’s narrow the scope to something manageable. Forget Santo Domingo sugar plantations and private islands, or President Trump’s private planes and golf courses. Allow me give you a few examples of how obscure decisions/rulings can become. Let’s look at an actual audit for a single teeny-tiny company….. mine.
I was advised 3yrs of one of my companies’ returns was to be audited when the “revenuer” burst through my back door, unannounced, and presented me with a bill for $27K, and…… I could settle it by writing her a check….. “Right now!”. Most people, even business owners, are intimidated by the IRS and stop at this point. They panic. They mortgage the house, dip into savings, and pay the IRS. I knew better. I fought back, for accuracy, reputation, and I was offended by the intimidation tactics being used….. which is probably exactly what the President and his accountants are doing.
The audit lasted 4yrs and every single penny spent over a three year period was ruled upon a total of three different times. The second review of the three shut my business down for 6 weeks, while I personally went over every penny, with state and federal auditors – in my dining room. I had to walk them through a real audit and NOT ONE of them was an accountant.
Example #1: Whether or not I could deduct food was a huge fight with the auditors. I spent about $85K a year on food and they came up with a formula for 1/3 of food cost as personal expense. Nothing legal, they just decided it was a good number. No, I had receipts for other expenditures which were personal food expenses.
A. Whether or not I could deduct mayonnaise required a ruling. My secret ingredient in scrambled eggs is a tablespoon of Hellman’s for every 3 eggs (no milk or butter). I produced a B&B magazine, to whom I submitted a published recipe. The ruling took 8 months… for mayonnaise. It set the tone for what was to come.
B. $476 dollar deduction for something I listed as an Italian Bolillo. They didn’t know what it was so they struck the deduction. A Mexican bolillo is short crusty roll, an Italian version is a little longer, kind of like a loaf of French Bread for a single sandwich. How would it be possible for my husband, who worked all day, me, and an infant who wasn’t on solid food, to eat $476 dollars worth of bread before it went stale? The ruling on Bolillos took 18 months.

C. Surely, the auditors thought, during Decembers, I would be home, the house-frau (they were so condescending), with my family, and tried to strike all food purchases from Thanksgiving onward. No, I had the receipts and schedules. Again, 63 lbs of grapes, for my husband, me, and a baby? How could my family eat 63lbs of grapes? The grape ruling took 11 months…. for grapes.
Example #2: Garden expenses versus floral expenses: My company’s CPA advised me to take 72.9% of the garden expense as a deduction, cuz the guests enjoyed the garden and 72.9% of the square footage of the house was “guest space”. Auditors did not like that and demanded another measurement of the house…….., by a local certified architect, who just happened to be Gunner’s godfather. Well, 16 months before it was approved, and counting cubic footage of walls, the measurement went to 75.2%. Same deduction for home repairs roofing, with depreciation, etc. Yet, 83.33% deduction for cable expense and 100% for phone lines. Floral expense was something I purchased for a specific event, and deducted at 100%, even if it was 12 ferns for graduation and I took them home.
Example #3: I found a mistake in their software and threatened a class action lawsuit. For instance, I am allowed to deduct local sales taxes on items I sell/rent. At the time, we had a 7% sales tax. Yet, anything from 86 cents to 99 cents, their software calculated at 7 cents of sales tax due. No. by law, it’s still 6 cents from 86-99 cents, and not 7 cents until a purchase reaches $1.00. Now, think about ALLLLLLLLL the McDonald’s and fast food joints, all over the country, who charge $.99 for an item. The auditors were revealing when a sales tax was demanded (which was different than an income tax audit), they were seeking an amount from ALLLLLL those franchises in excess of what was due. I was wide-eyed at the thought of a lawsuit. They capitulated on that one fairly quickly.
Example #4: Diaper trees. They thought they had me on Diaper Trees……. because one of the auditors was a new mom, and thought I was trying to deduct diaper expense…. When you have a baby, you tend to make friends with those who have babies. We held a LOT of baby showers here. I used a grapevine Christmas tree form and glued baby diapers to the form, with little bows, and they made perfect centerpieces. I had the receipts for 87 forms and receipts for personal family diapers – separated. Ruling took 13 months……. I had pictures from the parties, and invoices where I charged for the diaper trees, with a corresponding deposit. Wrong. Deduction allowed.
Example #5: The ruling to deduct sales tax from other purchases, for items which were resold or rented, was a massive ruling. It went through two Big 8 accounting firms and took almost 2 years. Of course, in principal, I was correct, cuz otherwise, I would have been forced to pay what amounted to double taxation. Not fair to my customers. It saved me about $12K.
At the end, they owed me about $2300. Ruling after ruling was required and I didn’t win them all – everything is a negotiation, back and forth, with proof…. even when it comes to mayonnaise. I went through supervisor after supervisor and never yielded. Meanwhile, my own CPA told me of 6 other clients he had on his desk, undergoing the same harsh treatment by the IRS and state auditors in our county. One elder couple owned a large fabric store. Their bill was $68K at first. They mortgaged their home and laid off an employee to afford to pay their tax bill. I knew it was BS, they were being targeted.
Okay, you have examples of my teeny-tiny business. Multiply my lone small biz audit problems by a thousand, or a million — then multiply those problems by 512 entities, across multiple states, AND countries, to conceive a Trump audit.
Imagine pundits on CNN or MSNBC evaluating whether or not President Trump should be able to deduct something as small as “mayonnaise”, or the personal square footage for him, his wife, and Barron. CNN would demand to measure Mar-A-Lago or Bedminster. For CNN, it would be better speculation than a downed plane, and provide those who oppose the President with material for endless criticism….. which is WHY they want his tax returns…. political fodder.
Does ANYONE here have ANY confidence a television pundit could understand the President’s return AND communicate it accurately? Yet, we ALL know, the pundits would speak with authority and probably mislead at least half the country. The chances are 100%, we could find an “expert” accountant, willing to become the “Avenatti of Taxes”, appearing 200X’s on cable television, who would insist, a “mayonnaise” deduction should never be allowed…. and thus…. the President is cheating on his taxes. See how that works?
Need Proof? Given what you read above, you’re all qualified as junior accountants. Consider the following statement from Arthel Neville of Fox News to a Dem strategist: (Paraphrasing)
Arthel: We’re all looking forward to the President’s tax return. Please come back when he releases it and we can go through it, together, line by line.
Is Arthel crazy? We don’t have until the year 2050 to go through the President’s return! Line by line???? …. and then put it up for pubic discussion? The idea is absurd.
You might ask: But Daughn, every other President has released his taxes for the past 50 years, what is Trump so afraid of? It’s an unwarranted extrapolation. Cats have tails, Dogs have tails, Cats are not Dogs. It’s bad logic. Not every President has the same finances, just because they are all Presidents. The Bush’s tax returns were easy. They owned relatively few businesses and had been in public life before becoming President. Everything was separated and isolated. Clinton’s and Obama’s would have been close to a one page return. Jimmy Carter only had a farm. Easy-Peasy. Reagan was Governor of Cali before becoming President and would have separated monies into trust accounts. What did Nixon own? Eisenhower was a General. NONE of these past Presidents have assets anywhere close to the complexity of President Trump and NONE of them ever had such a virulent press corps…. who clearly only want the returns for political fodder.
You might say: But Daughn, CNN tells me the reason President Trump doesn’t want to release his tax returns is because he’s really not worth 10 billion dollars, it’s really more like 3.5 billion. Well, if you’re expecting to evaluate the President’s net worth from a tax return, you’ve been misled. His FEC filings or a balance sheet, would give a more accurate snapshot of net worth…. which the President provided, as legally required, before the election. The DIFFERENCE in the two numbers is probably coming from an evaluation of a business as a “going concern” as to a “liquidation value”, PLUS, “valuation of “goodwill”. We all know Steve Forbes (who ranked billionaires) hates Donald Trump and has hated him for decades — thus the constant fight about the evaluation of “Trump” good will.
These evaluations of net worth can swing wildly. As a going concern, my stove might be worth $5000, but if I had to sell it in a garage sale/liquidation, it might only be worth $800. See what I mean? Good Will, adds value to a company. My little B&B is worth more than a new B&B, because I am published, have a reputation, and decades of customers. What do we suppose the “Trump” name would be worth?
Let’s all understand, “Trump” does license his name to other hotels if they meet a certain threshold. A significant hit to his reputation would degrade his “good will” value….., which is another reason the press and Dems attack our President in a personal manner. We know, before Trump became President, the Trump brand was one of the top 10, requested in China for expansion. Yeah, top 10. Huge net worth added to the valuation of his good will. The “Trump” name, as a past President of the USA, could normally add ANOTHER 5 billion to his good will….. which is WHY you see protesters, funded by wealthy opponents like Soros, attacking his hotels and demanding the Trump name be removed. They’re trying to attack the largest part his his personal wealth…. his reputation…. his name…. and his good will.
You might say: But Daughn, these people are experts. They know what they’re talking about! I’m shaking my head. Most accountants don’t have the time to dig into personal expenses. AND People who always talk about how smart they are are…. well, we watch them closely. Consider this, when I met husband, he was a trial lawyer in Boston, which is the LAND of great lawyers and accountants, right? And I was just the chic who made the muffins, from Mississippi, right? Well, knew he would be receiving a large settlement from the whistle-blower case, and the tax implications would be massive. Finally, I talked him into allowing me to look at his past seven years of tax returns. One assistant and I took four months to complete the project, with 12 hour days. I re-filed them all, saving $227K in Fed/state taxes and accumulating 1.6 million dollars in legitimate expenses to carry forward. It saved us a fortune when the settlement finally came through and helped fund the kids’ college plans. The difference was common sense and elbow grease, not an Ivy-League degree.
Now think for a minute. If it took me and one other person four months to redo 7yrs of a small law office, how long would it take to do a single year for President Trump and his 512 companies?
One more point, in summary. Does anyone think President Trump tweets in the morning, flies to Minnesota in the afternoon, and plays with Turbo Tax in the evening? Of course, he does not. President Trump has the best CPA’s working on his tax returns. We’ve all heard the stories of President Bush AND President Obama auditing Citizen Trump, every year of their administrations. If there was any kind of a problem, we would have already heard about it.
No, the President should NEVER release his tax returns. I would lay in the middle of the road to stop him if he was my client. But if he was my client – of course, I would invite you all to lunch to meet him.
It’s time for dinner. Who’s paying the bill? After today, who can afford to pay the bill?
Barr Senate Testimony Thread
Not sure if we will have as many fireworks today. Appears the word has gone out – Dems won’t get anywhere with Barr. Nonetheless, here is the thread for comments.
D.I.S.C. = The Key to Peace in Our Time… or in Our Mind
We’ve talked quite a bit, this week, about how our President make decisions, how he adjusts policy, how he moves people around within his administration, or how he removes people altogether. We’ve also talked about bureaucrats, as well as people within our own families, who are resistant to making decisions and avoid confrontation, because they fear the pain, real or imagined, of the consequences of their decision.
Plain Jane said something which struck a memory chord. Jane’s father died when she was 10, and Plain Jane learned to make decisions early. She had to.
DISC was probably the forerunner to Myers Briggs Personality tests. If you want to take a sample Myers Briggs Test here is the link: HERE
DISC went further than Myers Briggs in that it not only taught us how to identify personality types, but also how to sell, or as Scott Adams would say, persuade, people…. helping them reach a decision. DISC also teaches empathy and patience for others who are not like-minded. I initially assumed DISC was a mandatory company class and would be boring. I had no idea it would save me countless hours of frustration, lower my stress level, and brighten my outlook on life for decades. DISC made me more money than any college degree, and I’ve shared it with all close friends and drilled it into my kids.
Back ground: I went to work for Merrill Lynch, at 22. I landed several large pensions, and was their rookie of the year. Because I was so young, a token female, and a good test taker, they threw me into every kind of training imaginable. As far as sales training, I did it all; Merrill’s in-house training, Equitable’s training, IBM’s PSS 1 & 2 & 3, Tom Hopkins, Dale Carnegie, besides all the financial training, designations, and licensing. At one point, I was licensed with over 300 insurance companies and had every possible NASD SEC license. Out of all of that, year after year, DISC was the best thing I ever did…. because it was so simple. I really like “simple”.
For example, how many of you are frustrated by someone driving slowly in the left lane? How many of you are the person who drives slowly in the left lane? How many of you are social butterflies and could put together a party with ease? Or, how many of you buy tires at the same place, year after year, because you know the guy? Are you the person who screams in panic when there is chaos, or when “chaos” becomes inevitable, does your voice change, do you get low, focused, and does your peripheral vision increase?
We all have people in our lives who represent the above personality types. Whether we are an executive who is responsible for building a team at work, or a volunteer who is putting together a bake sale for school, it’s enormously beneficial to identify personality types and put specific people into positions WHERE THEY THRIVE.
Elizabeth Carter, yesterday, illustrated she intuitively understands this dynamic. Elizabeth said: “Another time he was upset with a woman who worked for me because she had no ambition. I replied that she did accounts payable which is a boring, repetitive job. She did it perfectly and was very content doing it. I insisted that he let her work in peace and compliment her for her excellent work.” What Elizabeth did on gut instinct, by listening well and observing her employees, DISC explains as a strategy.
Here we go: DISC Method. Please know, we are all a varying percentage of each type of personality, and subconsciously, we all rely on different portions of our personality if we reach an impasse in one area.
“D” stands for Dominant. These are the CEO’s and the gang leaders. You can watch a group of children and immediately identify the “D’s”. They’re not the bullies on the playground. Rather, they’re the ones who decide what game to play, when to go back to class, and they swing into action when someone is hurt. “D’s” know everyone, vaguely, but more people know them, precisely. Yet, “D’s” can count on one hand their real friends. They are intensely loyal people and can smell BS a mile away. Easiest way to offend a “D” is to waste their time. Best way to sell to or persuade a “D” is to bottom line everything, and create a win-win scenario. Do it quickly, because they will move on, faster than a speeding jet.
If you ever betray a “D” or lie to them, they will never fully trust you again. You’re burned. They may strike back at you when betrayed, and heaven help you if they do because they are powerful people, but they may not….. because you are not worth their time. There is no one better in chaos than a “D”, and as the situation escalates, they develop other-worldly senses. Their voices change. They issue short declarative statements to which others instinctively respond. They also have weird ability with peripheral vision when threatened. They see the battlefield.
“I” stands for Intuitive. These are the social butterflies and the most creative of all types, either artistically or with big ideas. Loved by all. Pretty people who know everyone in town but have a hard time with close friendships. Their homes are beautiful and they dress well. They are extroverts, comfortable and confident at the center of attention. They have courage to do something daring, travel to unknown places, try new food, or a new company system. Worst thing in the world to do to an “I” is to tell them you are disappointed in them, because they want so much to please you. OR make them cry, hurt them, as they will feel unloved which hurts them almost in a physical way. Takes a long time for an “I” to recover from any emotional pain.
Best way to persuade or sell to an “I” is “because everyone else is doing it” or “all the best people have this item”. They long to be included, fit in, and they are happy people by their very nature. Another way to sell or persuade an “I” is to make them want to be part of your social circle but the situation might not be possible. An “I” is almost never at home on a Saturday night, because they are in such high demand. “I’s” are exceptional salespeople and spies and have odd chameleon-like ability to invent and reinvent themselves. Unless their heart has been broken, “I’s” are the most adaptable, spontaneous, and quickest to bounce back. They have a freakish ability to read people’s body language and subtle cues.
“S” stands for Safety. The “S’s” are the people who can do assembly line work in expert fashion. Repetitive things, over and over, with a high degree of accuracy. They take pride in their accuracy, which is good, because the world relies on their accuracy. An “S” is the person driving slowly in the left lane but has no points on their auto insurance….. and it’s the same auto insurance agent their dad used. They dress in the morning by following a routine. They go to bed with a routine. You can even watch their housepets, who have adapted to their routine. An “S” is a perfect airline maintenance guy, bomb maker, office administrator, government worker, assembly line, or quality control inspector.
There is way humanly possible to sell or persuade an “S”. They have to come to you, and the effort often takes years. Once they are your customer, or spouse, however, they will never leave you. They are fiercely loyal and protective of those they love. People who test off the chart in this category are extraordinary puzzle solvers. You can show them 10 copies of a page, with one word off on a single page, and they can pick it out. When they play “Where’s Waldo?”, they win. Perfect for intel analysts, QAnon, or moms, who can often tell when something is out of order.
“C’s” are the Checkers. Accountants, Engineers, research analysts…., and reporters. They’re smart, but they’re rigid as steel….. which is exactly what we want for this personality type. They don’t deal well with change or disruption. Not spontaneous because it doesn’t fit their schedule…. but by God, if you want something delivered on November 23rd at 8:00am – it will be there at 7:55am, a few minutes early. They will do a mountain of research to make a decision, and once the decision is made – that’s it. If your company is buying a million dollar piece of equipment, ask a “C” to research the difference between Brand A and Brand B and trust them. BUT make sure you give them a deadline on research, a finite due date.
If you want to sell to or persuade a “C”, then send them 3rd party articles, affirmation from outside sources, once a week for about 6 months to a year. Let them come to their own decision as they will resist outside pressure. They will never trust your research, which presents a problem with time for a boss. Also, for very high “C’s”, if their research says “NO”, then they physically stop, stutter, everything shuts down. They’re naturally cynical of “opinions” or anyone who brags or exaggerates. Everything must be precise. To a “C”, Pi is carried out at least 8 decimal places.
Okay Daughn, how does this help us?
Once we realize how people naturally settle into different personality types AND process information in different ways, making their decisions uniquely, everything else is easy. All we have to do is bend ourselves, a little bit, to do so much more as a country, as a company, group, or as a family. Give people info in a way that makes them comfortable – so they can hear you. We’re not all the same, thankfully. What DISC taught me, is that our world would become an untenable experiment without all 4 types of personalities, and I was no longer frustrated. For example:
People driving slowly in the left lane used to MAKE ME CRAZY. The commute to work was a battle, everyday. Once we realized these were the “S” types, we can look at the bigger picture and gain perspective. Of course, we need office admins, auto maintenance, and assembly line workers. It’s what makes the world go around. Who wants a cruise director type to fix a Boeing jet? No.
Therefore, if your auto mechanic is “Chatty Cathy”, and wants to come to your birthday party on Friday night, he’s not the guy who should be fixing your brakes. If you have a teenager who naturally gets along well with people, is curious and popular, the WORST thing you can do is give him/her a strict routine – cause it will bite into their social schedule – which is fundamentally more important to them. It’s NOT personal, it’s just the way they think. Most importantly, if you’re married, decide which of you is the “C” and that person pays the bills.
First husband was a high “S” and “C” and I drove him insane because our personalities naturally conflicted. One thing I did to ease his “S” was tell him what we were having for dinner, before he left for work in the morning. It eased his mind, he scheduled it, and I swear, it dropped his blood pressure by 15 points. When we had a big bid deadline for a job, his high “C” went into overdrive. He would endlessly check and recheck. He would sweat because he was so nervous about “making the decision”. To me, bid day was exciting, and decisions were easy.
Like Elizabeth Carter identified her accounts payable clerk above, I had a problem with customer service for the stone company. I’m not good with whiny people, but I had a girlfriend who was a customer service manager for Bellsouth for 27yrs. She dripped softness, genuine concern, and in endless hours wrapped my customers up in a cocoon of safety. They love her. I would have rather had a root canal.
Three kids are high “D’s” and could organize a Chinese Fire Drill. They get along beautifully — but the off the chart “I” artist one, drives them all nuts, because she has to be the center of attention.
I almost beheaded a staff member once (not really), who took an hour and 45 minutes to clean a flat of strawberries. She was a high “S” and high “C” = cleanest strawberries I’ve ever seen, but I was looking for a 10 minute rinse, denub, and pat dry. Reexamining the problem in the kitchen, for big events, I posted a countdown schedule, a tic-toc by the minute, of what needed to happen and when. Smooth and happy kitchen. Problem solved.
Let’s take a look at President Trump
Our guy, President Trump, is obviously a high “D”, and high “I”, 10-20% “S”, and about 25% of a “C”. This graphic in the corporate world is referred to as a corporate hook. It means, we have a great guy as a salesmen or CEO, but if he can’t do the paperwork, he’s useless.
Note how President Trump, when we hear stories of his past negotiations, often slays his opponents on the details of a contract. President Trump has the corporate hook. Yet, President Trump told his intel people who give him his Daily Brief, “Don’t tell me the same thing every day if it has not changed – tell me the new stuff”. In other words, don’t waste my time, bottom line it, classic “D” and lower “C”. Isn’t it interesting how it was soooooooo much different for Obama?
Notice also how President Trump relies on his “D” personality, short declarative statements, often dropping unnecessary words from a sentence. Yet, when he meets with resistance, he seamlessly switches to “I” and becomes phenomenally charming. His aides say, “there’s no one better in a room than Trump” = Pure charm = Very high “I”. President Trump is a “pretty person”, likes high quality goods, snazzy dresser. Is anyone better as the center of attention? All of these traits are high “I”. The “I” part of his personality wants to be loved or at least respected, and the “D” part of his personality will lash out at enemies when warranted.
Note how his “D” personality is fiercely loyal to certain family/friends/employees whom he has had for years. Trademark “D” personality. The only place President Trump exhibits an “S” is his love of specific kinds of food, and his and routine surrounding Mar-A-Lago. He loves the place.
Let’s take a look at the Media
NOW, pivot a little bit, and look at others surrounding Trump. Notice how the media, as opponents, respond. Recall how the reporters, high “C”, are overly focused on precise numbers? Remember how high “C’s” will carry Pi out to 8 decimals? Notice how they argue about how many Muslims were dancing on rooftops? Instead of the big problem of ANY Muslim celebrating 9/11? And the media calls it a lie from the President = typical “C” behavior, instead of focusing on the bigger problem of discord in the USA = typical “D” behavior. Notice how the media has compiled a list of 9K lies – this is textbook “C” behavior, as in, I’ve done my research, do not pass go – they have made their pronouncement and physically shut down, do not proceed.
But what about the Deep State problem?
Let’s look at the bureaucrats who ‘resist’ our President in classic “S” fashion. Remember, there is nothing that can be done to influence an “S”, they have to come to you, and it often takes years. Once loyal, they will stay with you forever —- or, they will stay with Obama forever — until years pass, and THEY decide to be loyal to President Trump. It’s a problem. They THRIVE in a routine and abhor disruption. Trump is a bomb thrower and a disrupter. Is there any wonder they resist him? Is there any wonder President Trump is frustrated by their lack of speed on ANY issue?
How do we adjust and get through to others?
We’re going to have to bend a little bit. Note how Brandon Straka came to start the #WalkAway campaign. He had one friend, a female Christian, who never gave up on him. She sent him information all the time. Eventually, he saw the debunking video of how the media falsely portrayed Trump mocking the disabled reporter…. and then Straka did his OWN research….. and then Straka decided….., after months of research…., and made his pronouncement. Once ‘converted’ and sure of his analysis, he became an advocate for Trump. Gee whiz, does this sound like a high “C” or “S” from above? Ya’ think?
Speculating further, WHO OR WHAT entity has been hinting at a slow release of information, so the people could acclimate to the corruption of those in our government and “those we trust the most”? I’ll give you 17 guesses to get the answer correct.
Take the Canal Project which we talked about months ago:
D = If we were “selling the idea” to a President Trump, we would give it to him him bullet point format, five items, short description. He would immediately grasp the idea and probably make it better.
I = If selling to an “I” type, we would talk about the wealth created and gleaming new cities, beautiful farms, industry and commerce. An “I” type would find the project irresistible. They would crawl over broken glass to be part of the party and smack dab in the middle of it all.
S = If selling the Canal to an “S”, I would friend them on Facebook, first, cuz they still have an account. Every 2-3 days, I would send them a post about something I saw in the news, and how the canal would solve the problem. Two years later, it would be their idea.
C = If selling the Canal to a “C”, we would have to send them a chart, research, once a week, for about 6 months until the file was about 6″ high or bigger. Then, they would make their own evaluation, which would be positive, because we already did the research, but a “C” will NEVER trust your research, they have to do it themselves.
What’s the takeaway?
We can see the difference now. Again, it’s like understanding the power of gravity. We always knew it was there, and now we know how it works. The lights are on. I dare you to close your eyes and think about the personal disagreements you’ve had in the past year. How many of those disagreements, do you think, could be attributed to simple personality differences? Think about your spouse or best friend. Have you been able to peg their personality type yet? What could you do, to bend a little bit, so they would be more at ease and hear you?
If we understand HOW people naturally process info and make decisions based on their personality, AND DON’T TAKE IT PERSONALLY, we can accomplish so much more. More sales or more persuasion, or an INFINITELY HAPPIER HOME LIFE.
Think about trying to sell the Canal project in reverse. What do you suppose President Trump’s reaction would be if we came in with piles of charts to weed through? Do you think he would ever have the patience or time to see our Twitter message or Facebook post? I doubt it.
In summary, decide what you want to accomplish, and if you’re willing to bend a little bit so that others can HEAR you. Start small. Practice until you get used to using it. Think about it and experiment. Sky’s the limit!
End~
PS: Normally, it takes about 5-20 minutes to figure out a new person’s personality type. As many times as I’ve gauged people over the past 30+ years, to figure out how to get through to them, there is one person I am hesitant to call, Obama. I can’t tell who he really is. He’s wearing a mask. What do you guys think?

Decision Making 101 = Donald Trump 101
Some people are decision makers and some are not. At one time or another, we’ve probably all taken a personality profile test in school, for a job, or career counseling. According to the Meyers Briggs tests, less than 3% of the population are decision makers. Obviously, the USA needs leadership which is comfortable, natural, effortless, in the decision process. Right? Then, why do we have so many leaders who are afraid to make a decision?
Why have the leaders of the USA avoided making a decision on illegal immigration for the past 35 years? Why do our leaders purposely avoid the decision, except for President Trump? I’ve come to a personal conclusion. President Trump is not afraid to make a mistake….. because he can fix a mistake….. and no rational person expects all decisions to be perfect. Note: Ann Coulter is irrational on the issue of illegal immigration and demands perfection. We’re trying to get there.
Name one person whose every decision has been correct? None of us are so perfect and it’s obvious we cannot be so perfect. Why all the fear about an incorrect choice? I recall begging my kids to live a little dangerously, take a chance, screw up, while I could still protect them. No, running drugs or guns would be frowned upon, but take a chance, explore. Do it! Make the decision to step out, step up. Go. Do. Conquer. Fail. Reassemble. Conquer again. On a larger scale, it’s exactly what the President is doing with North Korea…. or China…. or the Congress. He’s making decisions and not afraid of the repercussions. He comes back, again and again, in pursuit of his goal.
Why are 97% of the people in the world uncomfortable with making a decision? Easy answer, because when someone else makes the decision, THEY suffer the consequences. Non-decision makers can remain safely on the sidelines. Blame is a cop out. Blame is easy….. just ask Pelosi, Schumer, McConnell, and Ryan. Decisions take courage. We describe President Trump as bold and fearless……. because he’s not afraid to make a decision.
Which leads to another conclusion: The paralysis which comes from avoiding a decision is not actual pain, it’s anticipatory pain….. imagined pain which MIGHT come from making a bad choice or avoiding the reality of a situation.
Think of the lengths some are willing to go to in order to avoid confrontation, and making a decision. Parents afraid to confront their child’s drug habit. Spouses afraid to confront their husband/wife spending habits or infidelity. Or a FISA judge unwilling to make a decision to confront the FBI/DOJ. The fear of the bad choice or reality learned in the confrontation paralyzes us. BUT there is a difference in avoiding a real and known to be real issue and/or avoiding an issue which is imagined and built up in our own minds.
It’s why we have Generals, who can make life and death choices, when decision making is serious business. For the rest of us, simple decision making should be embraced and not feared. We WILL make millions of bad choices in our lives.
There are many people in our lives who avoid decision making and have turned it into something of an artform. People who physically recoil and run away from making a choice. Heck, I was married to one, a strongly-willed man in every other aspect, but could not make up his mind to save his life. “Where do you want to go for lunch?”, I might ask. The response, “Whatever you want is fine.” They can’t even decide where to go for lunch! And if I decide where to go, and it’s not their wish, they suffer in silence and harbor resentment….. about a lunch spot!
I’ve had clients who left their IRA investment in a money market account, because they “couldn’t decide” on which mutual fund to pick. Who does that? LOTS of people.
Indecision, avoidance of making a decision, maintaining the status quo, is a particular problem in our bureaucracy. Perhaps, the best thing we could do to improve our civil service is stream out the non-decision makers. Yet, bureaucrats are worried about rocking the boat, and the fear of repercussions. Making the wrong choice may cost a job assignment, a career, or lead to malicious inter-office targeting. The FEAR of decision making is probably what caused the Russian Hoax. No one stepped up to stop it, maintain the status quo. The lack of decision making, or courage to make an ethical decision, still persists in the media. With the Obama holdovers in the DOJ/FBI, the fear was real and perpetuated the indecision and lack of courage, to the detriment of all Americans.
We could also make an argument the DNC and the media DID make a decision, a corrupt decision, to target an American President, their political enemy, which served their own interests. Yet, that’s the few in leadership roles. The overwhelming numbers of minions, thousands upon thousands, remained on the sideline…… silent.
Why do we have so many weak and indecisive people in our culture?
Did we rob our children of the ability to make decisions and thereby create MORE of a problem? As women joined the workforce and family income became a two income family, did we spoil an entire generation by making decisions on their behalf? Were helicopter moms created by guilt because we were not at home? Did we make up for lost personal time by spending more money on our kids? So they could do more? Were we afraid to let them fail? Look to the college admission scandal for an answer to that question.
When I was 10, my dad forced me to make my first big decision. I mistakenly invited two friends to spend the night and the rule was only one friend per night. I told dad my problem, and expected him to tell me what to do. He could have easily made an exception and allowed both girls to spend the night, but he took the opportunity to make it a lesson in decision making. He forced me to choose. It was the first time I recall my father was “mean to me”, as I “perceived” it. I remember whining, crying, being angry, upset he would not solve my problem, fearful of offending one friend. I could not understand why HE was causing me so much pain. I was physically recoiling from the responsibility of making a decision. He held fast. I was filled with dread and made lists of what to do = further avoidance. As the week wore on, I made a re-appeal for mercy. Nope. Not working. I called my one friend and told her she could not come. Fine, no big deal, and she understood the problem. Painless. Wow, was I surprised.
What was enormous in my mind, a problem which caused me days of angst, was solved in about two minutes. My problem was not a problem. It was imagined.
From that moment on, my father looked for creative ways to force my friends and me to make decisions. He was relentless. If we wanted to do something, anything, go anywhere, we had to present “our case” to him. Had we considered the danger, the risks, the good parts, the rewards, the cost versus potential gains. He was trying to make us responsible about our decisions, to plan as much as possible for risks ahead. I swear, on more than one occasion, he left my dates dumbfounded as they checked the tire pressure for their spare tire, before we were allowed to leave. It’s the way he was…., which changed everything about how my friends and I turned out. We all had cars in tip-top shape and any boyfriend I had…. learned to change the oil himself… with help from my dad. Heck, my first job was at a Jiffy Lube, I knew how to do the 14point top of engine inspection.
People in our age bracket, who grew up in the era of personal responsibility, understand problems presented in decision making. Military veterans have an acute understanding of the decision process. We analyze for risk, cost versus benefit, and we don’t expect someone to magically appear and save us. We make a choice, and if we are wrong, we adjust. Yet, we continue to pursue the goal……… just like President Trump is pursuing the problem of illegal immigration.
I submit, on this issue, many of those who are younger have made a false and political choice, based on bad information from media and other leaders who pursue their own agendas. Good decision making is not based on an age, exactly. For instance, if I could do it as a whiny 10yr old, of course, millennials can do it today. Will it be painful and will they react physically? Oh, yes, and maybe the reflex of those actions is what we are seeing today. We just need to get them the correct information and a steadfast Dad. They need a guy like my dad, pointing out all the things which could happen, which they never considered, to become responsible about their decision making. They need a guy who is objective, not afraid to force a decision, and has their best interests at heart.
That guy is President Trump.
The Couch
Think about all the major moments in your life, times of splendid inspiration or utter meltdowns. Where were you when that moment occurred? Were you driving in a car? Most men are naturally gifted when it comes to processing a large volume of information while driving a car. Were you in the shower? Stunning how women come out of the shower with major pronouncements. For our family, it was “the couch”.
Inanimate objects have no special power. As rational people, we know better. Yet, many of us carry a lucky rabbit’s foot, a four-leafed clover, or, if we’re on a pitching streak in the Major League, we might even wear the same socks. Is it the object that has the power, or is the object a bit of a crutch which gives us an extra boost of courage? Well, our “couch” has special power.
For most of my life, I was a business and numbers person = pragmatic but quick decisions, rule with head over heart, cool and rational. It was difficult to empathize with the touchy-feely emotions of others as they wrestled endlessly with small decisions or perceived injustices. I had to work on that part of my character, and thus learn to stop, breath, and listen to what others said and felt. I am aware impatience with whiny people is my Achilles Heel.
When we bought the B&B, I was finishing a few more degrees at a local college. I knew renovating and decorating would be pricey, and thought I should take a senior level class on “period architecture and interiors”. In that way, I could, at least, talk to an interior designer and not sound like a fool. More importantly, with limited funds, I couldn’t afford to be taken advantage of by an interior designer who was working on HER “vision” which didn’t fit MY budget. Admittedly, I falsely presumed interior designers were fluff-queens, or those who could not excel in disciplines like business or biology. Of course, I was wrong about interior designers and worked my ass off to get a “C” in the class.
One class, taken on a lark, for ALL the wrong reasons, saved me hundreds of thousands of dollars over a lifetime and made me a better person. The class also allowed me to make faster decisions, fiscally prudent decisions, which were better decisions…. pragmatism returned. Strangely, one single class helped my family and friends with divine inspiration, and many tears. The class taught me about the power of spaces, big and small, and the power of …. the couch.
Practically speaking, the class taught me about color of floorcovering, first, upon which everything rotates around. Thus, all the furniture in our large home can be moved to any room, even the upholstered pieces, and even though all the rooms LOOK different. For instance, one room is red/Oriental trim, and another is an English chintz explosion, but the furniture works anywhere. It’s a masterful trick, and dozens, if not hundreds, of times we have moved furniture throughout the house for various needs. Yet, more importantly, the class taught me about small spaces versus large spaces — and how people respond, physically and emotionally, to those spaces.
To me, it was like discovering gravity. We always knew it was there, but now, I understood why it worked. We all have small spaces in our homes and people are instinctively drawn to them. The class explained the why.
Small spaces are intimate, lower ceilings, lamp-light versus overhead lights, quiet, not in a traffic pattern, a place where one “feels” safe sharing a secret. Large spaces are public spaces, big and grand, where we might be wearing a mask, more apt to hide our true feelings. Thus, if you might want to learn how someone really feels, listen to them closely, and do it in a small space. AND be particularly cognizant of big versus small spaces if you have children, because all spaces are perceived as bigger from a child’s point of view.
Our house is big and has tall ceilings. Therefore, creating small spaces presented a challenge. I started with “end of traffic pattern”, and then created everything else for small spaces, including a cozy couch, in a nook, with low light, in front of a fireplace. The result was surprising, unbelievable, but 100% proven and accurate. All kinds of people, especially children, would gravitate to our master bedroom couch, when they want to unburden themselves of …. anything. From adults to little ones, the couch….worked.
We created another space, upstairs in my office, for a small space secret couch, underneath an enormous window. My son’s friends would divulge all their innermost fears, family problems, girl problems, school problems, even abuse…. while sitting on that couch. One Friday, as was typical, my son’s friends came home and invaded my office. After work hours, one by one, the friends drifted away until only one remained. He decided to spend the night. After dinner, the boys were talking about random things. I tried to leave a few times, until he told me, “I miss talking like this – like we did when we were little kids…”, never mind …. the boys were only in 7th grade at the time. The need to talk, be together, bond, is part of human nature. We all need it. The couch… makes it happen.
When I married my current husband, with four daughters, the legend of the couch grew. LOTS of tears and drama with girls, and I practiced my listening skills as the years flew by. Our children were good at spotting people whom they thought needed a little help, and they brought them home, to the couch. Over time, the family understood the couch, often joked about it, but always respected the strange power the couch had. “The couch” became analogous to an unburdening, truth telling, unconditional love, support, self-conscious, forgiveness, repenting, revelations, protection, bright ideas, and courage to move forward.
I was folding laundry one afternoon in the bedroom and a 14yr old Gunner and his buddy came sauntering in. “What’s up?”, I said. They were working on filing their first patent for an invention they cooked up… which actually, was pretty cool. “We need to think….”, they said, and plopped down on the couch. We hashed it out = patent filed.
Another time, my son became serious about a young woman, who was having family problems. He brought her home, weekend after weekend, until she softened. As Gunner said, “If I can just get her to the couch, she’ll be fine.” Another time, Gunner warned a friend who sat down on the couch, “Be careful when you sit there, all your deepest thoughts will be revealed.” A daughter called, having problems with her new husband. “He needs to spend some time on the couch”, she said. And then, many moons ago, we got a knock on the door at about 2:30am. It was a young man from down the street. He was terrified and burst into our home as soon as we opened the door. He was crying and ran from me – through the house – straight to the couch…. the safe place. He curled up in a ball, and cried for hours.
For about 5 years, we had a cottage on the shore. It was a tiny house, but had a big and oddly shaped master bedroom. Husband got it on a whim. When I got there and we finalized our plans, we put in another “couch” and chaise lounge in the extra master bedroom space. The girls and the one boy child, Gunner, and their friends, utilized the couch small space more than ever before. After a particularly rambunctious afternoon, husband and I were downstairs putting things away but the kids headed upstairs to shower. By the time I got there, I found 8 youngsters sprawled, sound asleep in various positions – all around and on top of the couch. Small space, cozy, safe, good light, comfy.
We created another small space, downstairs at the beach house, directly off of a large side porch. The kids found a couch in a garage sale for $1, and desperately wanted it. Had it recovered with $1/yd fabric and stuffed it into a corner, with an old TV, and an overstuffed chair and ottoman. The space was so small an adult could barely turn around. For the kids, it was everything. The kids begged to have their sleepovers THERE, instead of their bedrooms. It was the Saturday morning cartoon spot, the build a fort spot, far enough away from the kitchen to share secrets. With access to the side porch, that spot became the kid’s entrance, a pick up spot for play dates, or if another kid in the neighborhood was lonely, they could always find a friend… at that spot. Husband admitted, years later, when the kids and I were not at the house, he often fell asleep there. What is it about small safe spaces?
I’m looking at the couch in our bedroom right now. If it could only talk. It needs to be recovered again, fix a few springs. How many girlfriends, kids, a few policemen after a bad call, tears, infidelities, secrets, plans hatched, report cards, young men planning their engagements to the love of their life….. has that couch seen?
If we think back to our grandparents homes, when we were children, we found those couches and small spaces when we were young. Grandma never took an interior design class, they did on instinct.
Bigger is NOT always better. For comfort of the soul, create small spaces as well.
Everything Hinges on Mike Flynn
A few days ago, I started thinking about the motives for the Russian Hoax. Why did it happen? Yesterday, I wrote an article which, at least in my small feeble mind, attempts to explain the parallel interests of the MSM and the Dems. If “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”, then we have a perfect explanation for the love affair between the media and the Dems…., they both made money pushing Muh Russia, even AFTER they knew the Russian hoax was untrue.
Yet, even if we assume everything from yesterday’s article is true, it still doesn’t explain the reaction of the “Deep State” before and after the election. We’ve all worked in positions where “the new manager” comes in, is different or hated, but we keep our opinions to ourselves and muddle through. Why all the leaking from FBI/DOJ/C_A and State Dept? Leaks from the White House staff holdovers. Opposition from every department, Education, EPA, and for heaven’s sake, the Obama holdovers even went after Zinke at Dept of Interior, Price at Dept HHS, and Dr Ben Carson. Even the Ambassadors? Why?
It is statistically impossible for so many people, who were sane on November 7, 2016, to have a mental breakdown on November 9, 2016. Besides, Federal employees are known for doing what is necessary to keep their jobs. Rationally, new Trump Admin officials would need months to even learn their way around Washington, DC. A new Trump boss could have been sabotaged quietly, and easily. Why all the unprecedented public hatred which was actually self-defeating (for themselves and the country)?
No, the Dems were NOT acting like wounded animals, writhing in pain. They were NOT merely sore and dejected by a loss of an election. The Dems were lashing out, with venom and anger to destroy the Trump Admin. They were acting scared…., and as if they were at war……, particularly the intel community.
And then it hit me…… Mike Flynn. Mike Flynn was where it all started. After the election, they went after Flynn, first. And then ALL the light bulbs in my head started going off like a 1978 disco blaring Donna Summer tunes. Watch this 2 minute video of Mike Flynn, calling for a change in the agencies, rooting out corruption, as Martha McCallum was accusing the Trump campaign of Russian Collusion on November 6, 2016. Link here.
The two minutes is STUNNING, in light of the Mueller summary, and will make your jaw drop and your blood run cold.
- Mike Flynn was lauded as the brightest military intel officer in a generation. He worked from 1981-2014, with our military, C_A, and as a National Security Advisor to Obama.
- Flynn left the Obama team over the Iran Deal and Flynn was on the inside of the Obama team.
- Video above, Flynn was on the campaign trail calling for Hillary to “step down”. Besides Trump, it was Flynn going after Hillary about her email problem….., a problem that was whitewashed by the intel community.
- Again in video, it was Flynn speaking openly about corruption in the agencies, the need to change the behavior, even while Martha McCallum was pushing a “Muh Russia” narrative on November 6th, 2016.
- Again, in the video, when Martha asks how Flynn would respond to the allegation of Russian collusion, Flynn responds by saying, “I would use my Irish on ya'” – meaning his first reaction was a curse word, “but I won’t do that.” Flynn KNEW the Russia story was BS.
- Rerack it. Again, in the video, look CLOSELY at Flynn’s face when he speaks about the Russia allegation as “a vast amount of deception going on here”. Wild, eh? In the days before the election of 2016, we see Lt General Mike Flynn take center stage attacking Hillary. Flynn makes a stand and “asks Hillary to step down”.
- From the day before, we have Flynn paying tribute to those lost at Ft Hood, CALLING it Radical Islamic terror. Must not have gone over too well at C_A. https://twitter.com/GenFlynn/status/795105595485523968
Another lightbulb, background and context. Remember President Trump telling stories about how he had not spent much time in DC? Trump did not have decades of bureaucrats who owed their position to him. On the other hand, Flynn knew exactly who to call and where the bodies were buried. FLYNN knew what to do when it came to unraveling the intel community.
More context. The primary reason for intel failure on 9/11 was because intel agencies didn’t communicate with each other. Has it changed? Don’t they still treat their own agencies and BUDGETS like fiefdoms? Except, strangely, Nellie Ohr, Brennan, Peter Strzok came out of C_A – not really FBI agents. Yet, Brennan pushed the opening of the investigation to Harry Reid and snookered Comey into placing the counter-intel investigation at the FBI, run by McCabe. If the investigation went badly, Comey would take the heat, not Brennan. Remember, Brennan covered his behind. Brennan went to Congress in August of 2016 and said, “Muh Russians are trying to interfere”. It was Comey who avoided Congress for 9 months and was only revealed by Congressman Elise Stefanik’s lucky questioning.
1A. Flynn had a running war with Andy McCabe, stemming from Robin Gritz, and probably other things as well. We remember Gritz was a seasoned veteran at FBI and up for promotion. Flynn and others wrote strong letters of recommendation on her behalf. She was a shoe-in for the job. McCabe drummed her out of the FBI and she filed what is an equivalent to an EEOC complaint against McCabe. Who can forget McCabe’s alleged rally cry in an FBI meeting, “First we fu$k Flynn, then we fu$k Trump!” Now, think about that statement for a minute. Does it make sense to ANYONE, that McCabe would feel so viscerally about Flynn, if McCabe was only resentful about someone getting promoted 3 years ago? Do ya’ think there might be something else there, to elicit such a strong reaction from McCabe?
2A. Why was the Deep State so afraid of Flynn? Why was it so important to remove Flynn BEFORE going after President Trump? AND why so fast? Really? Sally Yates was in Doug McGann’s office about FLYNN posing a threat to national security only FOUR days after the inauguration……….. and all for a Logan Act violation? Does that make sense to anyone who was born after 1798 — or the last time a Logan Act Violation was prosecuted?
3A. Remember how Peter Strzok blew off the legal counsel and OIG for the Intel Community when THEY CAME TO HIM at FBI with proof Hillary’s server had been hacked? Why did Flynn keep asking Hillary to step down, “for the sake of our children”. Given what we know, or think we know, why did Flynn keep talking about children and the danger of Hillary?
4A. Why was it so important to CLOSE Hillary’s investigation – to the point that McCabe practically hid the Weiner laptop from Comey? Notice this tweet from Flynn on November 6th. Note the top of the tweet, “IMPOSSIBLE”. Flynn knew Comey was lying about Hillary’s emails on the Weiner laptop.
5A. In mid-February of 2017, why was Comey so “triggered” when President Trump said “hope you can go easy on Flynn” or “put it all behind us”. Comey and President Trump had just finished dinner together. Presumably, Flynn had resigned only days prior. Flynn was done, threat removed. Comey should have felt safe. President Trump thought it was over with ……. but it wasn’t enough to merely let Flynn go. Flynn had to be destroyed and silenced. Why? Why was Flynn so dangerous? Why did the media keep asking President Trump if he had SPOKEN to Flynn since resigning?
6A. Same thing with Brennan, Comey, Clapper. Have we EVER seen former intel heads issue such wild and lascivious comments directed at a sitting President? When they knew it wasn’t true? Why all the excess venom? But don’t forget Schumer’s words, from January 3rd of 2017, BEFORE the dossier was released, BEFORE Comey and Clapper briefed President-Elect Trump on the dirty details, “Don’t mess with the intel community because they have six ways to Sunday to get back at you.”
Besides removing Brennan’s security clearance, what has President Trump done to these men to warrant such a wild reaction? Let’s think about it.
Let’s assume Comey/Brennan/Clapper really thought, for example, President Trump was wrong on the Iran Deal and a danger to the world. Okay, then they would be jumping up and down, telling the world why Iran needed a nuclear weapon, eventually. They would be relitigating their case for the Iran Deal, to convince all of us why their plan was better, …..why and where President Trump was wrong to reverse course. THAT would make sense. They wouldn’t be referring to the President in childish names or as the second coming of Hitler, ranting and raving like unhinged psychopaths, which is what they are doing. It doesn’t make sense. No, their behavior makes no sense at all, which can only lead to one conclusion….
…..There is something else going on. AND it was imperative to get retired Lt. General Mike Flynn out of the way, first. Flynn was the key to it all OR Flynn had the knowledge necessary to reveal it all.
One final subnote.
Manafort was almost as important. Manfort developed dossiers, straightforward background research to “soft blackmail”, on prominent people and had done so since the late 70’s. In The Ukraine and other hot spots around the world, Manafort did the same thing as the Podestas and the team of McCain and Rick Davis. They all played with the same various Russian Oligarchs and globalist bankers. Recall, part of Mueller’s investigation of Manafort included a subpoena to RAID Manafort’s hidden locker.
Again, for some unknown reason, it was necessary for the “Deep State” to silence Manafort, and they used an old and previously dismissed IRS charge to put him away. And don’t ever forget, a conscious decision was made, by someone, to go after Manafort. Silencing Manafort was MORE important than the obvious investigation delay/damage to an American President, the stability of our relationship with our Allies, our trade negotiations, and the potential harm to the American people.
WHAT could possibly be that important?
Dem/MSM Fake Outrage = Collusion for $$$
Folks, this is eerie weird. I was three hours into typing this mini-article and Don Jr.’s article with Politico was posted a few minutes ago. Same topic. Bizarre. Maybe we are onto something here. The Link to Don Jr.’s article and video is at the bottom of the article.
Here is my original post:
Manufactured outrage is good for business. Has American Mainstream Media helped to create or COLLUDE with Dems because it was good for business?
Are the Dems staying with the “Muh Russia” hoax because it is good for fundraising?
Stay with me for a minute. To establish mal-intent, we would need proof, right? Or maybe a circumstantial pattern of behavior?
Okay, let’s think back a few decades.
Desert Storm was credited for making CNN a competitive network. CNN’s wall to wall coverage of the war was an excellent service to the people, but it was also very good for CNN’s bottom line.
War is very good for the media business.
By the mid-90’s other cable news channels opened to compete with CNN.
Yet, the media model, of the coverage of Desert Storm, and the boost to business it brought to the network, was hard to duplicate. As media outlets were purchased and consolidated by companies who were more interested in stock price and return on investment, it would have been hard to resist the temptation to create a BUZZ for press coverage. We can imagine the zeal or search for the “golden” story that would drive coverage. Or……… How would a network get that kind of a boost in ratings, ad revenue, again, without another war?
Well…..
Election coverage naturally adds to a network or media’s bottom line. Many experts blame the revenue machine as the reason we see candidates starting their election campaigns earlier and earlier.
Now, think about CNN’s relentless coverage of missing Flight 370. The network covered the air disaster 24/7 to the point of mindless speculation of black holes and aliens from some pundits.
But……..
A missing plane is only good for a little while, maybe a few days.
A story like “Hands Up; Don’t Shoot” was good for 18 months…. even if it was fake. It was a golden story and too good to pass up. And the media descended into hell…. never again to arise and sitteth on a throne of integrity. Yes, the media, as a group, was questionable long before Ferguson, but we can admit, after Ferguson, the media became much worse.
CNN knew the truth of Michael Brown quickly, but pushed “Hands Up; Don’t Shoot” for over a year AFTER they knew it was false. Why? What was it worth to CNN/MSNBC and other outrage outlets? How lucrative? Endless panels, spent thousands of hours covering the “problem” of racism in America, when most Americans thought electing a black President proved America was PAST the point of racism. Some outlets even had a 1-800 hotlines for those who felt persecuted by racism = “Tell us your story”.
The burning of Baltimore and the death of Freddie Gray fed into the same narrative. Six officers were arrested, creating incredible friction between police departments and District Attorneys nationwide. Of course, the police were all exonerated. The fake story was pushed and did not represent the facts on the ground. The narrative of “Police = Bad” was pushed by media and the Dems…… to raise money. These false truths stoked racism instead of bring America together. By this point, the media was definitely NOT serving the interests of the people as a free press should.
Oh yes, racism is good for business in the media and for Dem fundraising.
The Charlottesville “fine people” hoax was a Christmas present for the media’s false narrative of racism. We know the President’s words have been misrepresented by the media, even the Wall Street Journal has written about the hoax.
Charlottesville’s “fine people” is a media hoax designed to make President Trump look like a racist and feed the money machine for the Dems and the Media. It’s completely inaccurate and the media knows it’s not true…. but the truth does not matter…. because the falsehood is good for business. Ever notice how many black reporters are White House correspondents?
“Trump mocking the disabled reporter” was also a hoax and the media knew it. Yet, it was one of the first times we see the media using Trump celebrity with a false narrative to make money for the media. The hoax was so convincing, many people in the USA still believe President Trump was intentionally cruel and insensitive to a disabled reporter. The personal discovery of the “disabled reporter” hoax led Brandon Straka to start the #WalkAway campaign.
School shootings are a boon to the Media and to Dem fundraising. Any wonder we saw the CNN Town Hall panel for Parkland students? Do you see the repetition? Do you see the repeat of strategy by the same media outlets, over and over. It’s clear. Again, with Parkland, we see lack of background emphasis of the actual facts. We barely heard the personal story of Nikolas Cruz, his family, his troubled life, the death of his mother, and an almost odd suppression of the problems in the Broward Sheriff’s Office. We also saw the Media and Dems intentionally hiding problems with Robert Runcie, Broward County Superintendent of Education. Was it because Runcie could be traced back to the Obama Administration? And of course, we saw the malicious suppression of the problems with “The Promise Program”, created by Runcie, for the Obama Administration —- which was the source of the problem which led to the Parkland Shooting….. and the root cause of the death of Trayvon Martin.
The Dems/Media collusion problem is the same with illegal immigration. How many times did we see the false narrative of “Children in Cages”. Mainstream media offered no explanation of the Obama era policy or the problems with the 9th Circuit Judge’s 20 day detention rule. Even the pictures of detention centers and chain link fencing were falsely portrayed. Yet, the story was the subject of endless hours of media coverage and a BOON to fundraising for the Dems who pushed the false story. Notice, our bad immigration laws still exist. The Dems have done nothing to solve the problem, and refuse there is an “emergency” – but they ALL made money…… talking about it.
The #MeToo movement allegedly carried the Dems to a House win in 2018. Yet, the movement has unraveled with various false charges, revelations of Dem lawmakers in Virginia, and the candidacy of Joe Biden. Have you noticed how the #MeToo movement has faded from view? Why? Why didn’t the same women advocate for real victims of domestic violence?
Did you notice how many Dem lawmakers pushed #MeToo and how much money they raised? Did you also notice NONE of those same lawmakers led protests at Hollywood studios, Cosmo Magazine, or during Fashion Week? Nothing to solve the problem —- only a boon for the Media and the coffers of Dem lawmakers.
Again and again, we see evidence of a circumstantial pattern of behavior. A false narrative is pushed by Media, Dems raise money, outrage is manufactured, Media receives boost in viewership, and the country is further divided…… but the Dems and the Media make money on the hate.
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, has been as good for the Media as the “Muh Russia” hoax. Again, trading on President Trump’s natural celebrity, the Russian boogeyman narrative, potentially compromising an American Presidential Election has been a boon for network coverage and saved failing newspapers. THINK of the 500K+ articles written about the Russian hoax and thousands of hours of media time spent on this false conspiracy…….
And you know how we know it was a hoax? A false narrative intentionally pushed by the media? Follow the motive. Follow the money. If media outlets were pure in their intent, to inform the public and advocate for a free press, then it would be a natural course of business to examine, and YES, investigate of all aspects of Russian interference, right? But that is NOT what the media did. In fact, Zucker of CNN publicly claims it is not his duty to investigate, only report facts “as they know them”.
And, how is it possible for ALL Mainstream Media outlets to push the same false narrative? Why are ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, WaPost, NYTimes, AP, Reuters, all pushing the same false narrative…….., often using the same adjectives? Is it still “circumstantial” evidence?
Where were the interviews with “Russians” who wanted to influence our election? Are we to believe our intel agencies and all the news outlets could not produce a single bad Russian? If the Muh Russia story was real, if Russians really did try to influence our election in a serious way, why aren’t the media outlets relentless in their blame of the Obama Administration? No, instead, media outlets are hiring those responsible for the problem! Do we not see the hypocrisy here? CNN hiring Brennan or Clapper, would be akin to hiring a terrorist who might have taken down their Flight 370. Why hire the bad guy? The guys who were showed dereliction of duty.
No screaming? No real indignation? Where was the deep dive into CrowdStrike? Did anyone see Podesta on television, crying about the release and personal embarrassment of his emails being revealed? Where were the interviews of Facebook execs and their answers as to WHY they allowed Russians to influence Americans? Why aren’t the Dem Socialists protesting Facebook? Where were the interviews, and there should have been many, of Jack Dorsey? Why is no one protesting at Twitter corporate offices?
This is IMPORTANT:
And most of all, why isn’t Hillary Clinton blaming Facebook, Twitter, and the former Obama Admin officials who allowed her election to be “stolen”……….!!!!!
Again, we see the same pattern of behavior and collusion between Dems and Media. In fact, the media intentionally suppressed Muh Russia opposing viewpoints and attacked those who were investigating. The perpetuation of the fake story was necessary. Actual investigations into “Muh Russia” from Nunes and Republicans were attacked. Pundits like Glenn Greenwald and Alan Dershowitz, who held an opposing viewpoints, were shunned from their regular spots on CNN and MSNBC.
Oh yes, Muh Russia was very good for business in the media AND for Dem politicians.
Think about the recent practice, invented by Dem politicians but lately adopted by Republicans as well, of manufactured outrage during their committee questioning. Congressmen take the video to publish for fundraising. Within minutes of a Congressman questioning a witness, the video clip is loaded up to Youtube, pushed by a little but of ad spending, and the emails go out for fundraising. Money in the bank!
There are few absolutes in our world. Yet, like “death” and “taxes”, we know that “follow the money” is another absolute truth. “Muh Russia” was a cash cow for the Media and for Dem fundraising.
Adam Schiff knows damn well there was no collusion with Russia on behalf of the Trump campaign. Yet, that’s not Adam’s job = to find the truth. Adjust your thinking. Finding the truth is no longer the media’s job, is it? Adam’s job is to keep the narrative alive so the golden goose of fundraising is allowed to live on…. until the next hoax is manufactured.
Which leads us to wonder…….?
Have you noticed those in the media have known, for about a month, the Mueller report would be a dud. Gee, that was about the same time as the retread of the “Green New Deal” came out, right? Coincidence? Pushed by the cookie-cutter, attractive female, AOC? The “plan” is old. There’s nothing new about it. Do you see the media push and the Dem fundraising based on the Green New Deal? Does it begin to look familiar to you? Suppression of opposition, denial of real facts. We know the coroner in Puerto Rico only legally registered 56 deaths for Hurricane Maria and AOC’s 3000 number is pure fabrication. No protesting going on at the Chinese or India Embassy for their pollution? Again, not solving the problem, just raising money. It’s the same strategy, over and over.
The Democrats and the Media have parallel interests… it’s money, pure and simple…., and the circumstantial evidence is overwhelming. Do we really believe these individuals “like” each other. Who would choose to spend Sunday brunch with Elizabeth Warren? Or watch Beto talk about baby turds he fed to his wife? What young female reporter wants to get close to Joe Biden? Does anyone want to go shopping with Kamala or would a REAL journalist rather expose international espionage….. like we see with China? And Bernie is old news…..
No, the Dems and the media don’t want to solve any problems in America and they actively resist solving problems……, because NOT solving the problem is lucrative.
Apparently, Donald Trump, Jr., agrees. Here’s his article and video from Real Clear Politics: Link
Byron York interviews John Dowd
Here is the link to the interview on Ricochet: Byron York interviews John Dowd
https://ricochet.com/podcast/byron-york-show/the-man-who-defended-trump/
The interview is over an hour long, thus most people will not listen to the full length of the conversation. I went ahead and listened to the whole thing, twice, and tried to type up “Crib Notes”, getting the quotations as accurate as possible. The information revealed is important for us all. In normal times, this would have been a 60 Minutes level interview, not hidden on a podcast. Here we go….
Notes:
Dowd speaks well of Barr. Believes the summary is accurate as he is familiar. “You’re going to see more of Attorney General Barr.” Of course, everyone wants to see the whole thing (Mueller report) but it is complicated. “Difficult job to thread the needle.”
York and Dowd go through no collusion part of the summary and Dems objections, denial. From Dowd: “I know all the evidence, no collusion, conspiracy, with the Russians…” From Dowd: “Apparently, they tried like blazes to penetrate the organization but were never able to do so.” (the Russians tried). No one in the campaign, “took any bait”. Just “watch how the President conducted the campaign”, inferring he deserved to win. “The FBI had nothing when they started the investigation….. and it did interfere with his ability to do his job”.
From Dowd: “Probably the greatest fraud ever committed against the people of the United States.”
York talks about the news cycle, example of the Trump Tower meeting or Roger Stone and Wikileaks, York asked Dowd if he KNEW of all these accusations or if he was surprised as the investigation went on —- did his client (the President) try to hide anything? – is what York is really asking. Dowd says no, the Trump Organization was beautifully organized to provide documents, etc. No surprises. As to the media, Dowd says, “I’ve never seen anything like the hysteria.” and “Sometimes you would tell them something wasn’t true, but it didn’t matter, they printed it anyway.”
From Dowd: “One of the sorriest chapters I’ve witnessed in this country.”
Dowd explains the Mueller team was finished with all witnesses and expected conclusion by end of November or early December. Dowd and York can’t understand why it took Mueller until the end of March.
This part is important. Dowd explains the President’s legal team turned over notes between the President and his legal team which were typed up at the conclusion of every meeting. Normally, notes like these would be considered Exec Privilege. Yet, the Special Counsel was under the Exec Branch, so Dowd and the team shared these documents to be transparent.
From Dowd: Paraphrasing but as close as possible. “The overwhelming amount of personal notes, turned over to the SC, of conversations between the President and his personal attorneys, may provide a precedent for future Presidents. Because it was Exec privilege, the Atty Gen has to come back to the President before releasing anything. And Don McGahn talked to Mueller for a long time, many times. Trump was very consciously to respect the historical aspect for future Presidents.”
Dowd only had 3-4 meetings with Mueller. From Dowd, “first and second were animated, because Dowd was trying to get the SC team to wind it up and stop it…. “no crime”.” and as Dowd told Mueller, “Can’t get to first base, can’t go any further.” Dowd then discusses the SC repeated, “16 areas and 49 questions, but repetitive.” Dowd finishes with Mueller, “What is the question that you need answered?”, which has not already been answered somewhere else?
From MUELLER to DOWD: Dowd relates that MUELLER admitted, “Every witness was full, complete, and truthful….,” From Dowd, “has to be a first for any administration.”
Mueller was pushing for an interview with the President, hard. Many discussions about Espy and Nixon, “Can’t hamstring a future President in 20 yrs from now.” Mueller pushed, Sekelow and Dowd, said. “Go ahead.” and subpoena the President. Dowd and legal team were confident, “There was no way they (Mueller team) would win it in court.” “They had nothing”. From Byron York, “….Media promoted it.” Dowd completely agreed but countered, “Gotta follow the law.”, and “…..Don’t know why so many people want to break the law to hurt this President but they do.” “There was no law broken.” “Had to establish the law broken.” and as to why he needed the President specifically, “Had to establish the President was the only one who could answer a question….not answered previously.” Dowd admits the Mueller team gave up on the idea of the subpoena to the President.
From Dowd relating his conversations with Mueller and Quarles (? spelling): I was …”not going to put him (Trump) in a position where he could get in a trap.”, “….without an extraordinary amount of preparation and time.”, “….It would have taken weeks of the Presidents time.” and they don’t have a right to the President’s time, “and Andrew McCarthy has written extensively on this.”….
Dowd continuing: “It hurt this president . An enormous amount of damage, ….maybe not the right word….. Making his life difficult. He was worried about the area of foreign affairs.”
From Dowd, relaying the personal conversations with President Trump, as to what the President would say to Dowd: Tell them I respect what they are doing but I need them to get it done. And he would share an anecdote from a foreign leader, Abe of Japan, G7, Egypt, Russia, about times he was working on trade or trying to get a hostage released, and the foreign leader would say, well yeah, Donald, but are you going to be around….. because of this investigation.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ My emphasis added!!!!
From Dowd, in summary about the DOJ and FBI, “Barr has to rescue the criminal justice system”, “…… (the justice system is) “crumpled”. Dowd continuing, “The President is worried about it.”
Dowd didn’t deal with Weissman but he “…watched Weissman deal with Manafort.”, “One of the great injustices.”, “…Weissman was the author of it (the Manafort personal destruction).”, “….Cases that he got were already declined.”, mocking laughter between Dowd and York about the DC judge, “….favorable judge in DC.”, “put him in solitary to get him to cooperate.” One can almost see Dowd shaking his head in disgust at the treatment of Manafort.
Dowd continues about Flynn – “I don’t understand the Flynn case.”, “… didn’t lie”, “no one thought he lied”, “I don’t know what happened when it got to Mueller shop, very troubling.” Quarles was pleasant, completely open. (Jim), saw him once a week. very cooperative. Dowd continues, “…..which circles back to “How can you possibly think he (Trump)obstructed, …..He (Trump) totally cooperated?”
Page three, Dowd refers to Barr and Rosenstein, no crime, didn’t obstruct. It was an easy call. “Trump had a right to scold him (Mueller), (Mueller) “Wasn’t doing his job.”, “Get it done.”, “Getting in the way for his (Trump) ability to do his job (as President).”, “Shame on him (Mueller) for not deciding on obstruction.” Barr and Rosenstein, very easily decided on no obstruction. “Nothing here.”
No actions, many of which took place in public, constitute obstruction. Was it Trump’s public comments, tweets, public scolding? All Dowd can do is speculate as to why Mueller didn’t decide on obstruction. Dowd also guesses there may have been an internal split on the Mueller team.
Dowd: Under the rules of the department, they’re (Dems) are not entitled to know (everything because the Pres gave him so much exec privilege info)
Dowd raised the question about such a partisan team in a conversation with Bob Mueller. Mueller said the rules of the department say I cannot question their political leanings. From Dowd, “That’s bullshit, Bob”. Dowd continues, “They wanted the President so badly….”. Because Bob assembled that team left a scar on the results. Dowd further intimates Rosenstein also had a problem with it (the partisanship).
York brings up the Lester Holt interview and asks Dowd about it, “Dems say the President admitted he fired Comey to stop the Russia investigation.” From Dowd, “Well, the President could fire him if he didn’t like his eyebrows.” “Have to read the whole Holtz interview, carefully, in context, and it is clear.”, “The media was parsing (the interview).” It was clear the President was not firing Comey to stop the investigation and not a big problem with the Mueller team. York interrupts and asks about the media reaction to the Lester Holt interview. Dowd responds, the media was breathless about it but it was not a big deal with Mueller.
President was never going to fire Mueller, at any time, Dowd was there. President was ambushed by Rosenstein when the investigation started. NO ONE had a heads up that Rosenstein was going to appoint a Special Counsel. Sessions immediately offered his resignation. Rosey was hunkered down behind his desk, “Are they going to fire me?” Trump did not hire Mueller as FBI director because Trump had a conflict with him – prior case. Trump, “How could Sessions not know?” No one could ever understand why Rosey started the Special Counsel. No motive. Only one talking about a Special Counsel was Comey. Trump confused as to why the heck it started in the first place.
Dowd: Trump’s (public) frustration was justified. Why is it taking so long? Nonsensical investigations. Not the way you treat the President. All Clintonites, they don’t care. Eat up his time (Trump’s time). Trump’s time, every day, making sure people cooperated. Making sure they had good counsel. MOVE IT ALONG. No hold up getting the information from Trump Admin.
From Dowd: On obstruction, “There was never a “NO” to Mueller, for any information.”, “True from the White House, Trump’s family, or Trump Organization” – (previously) who did a LOT of preliminary homework to provide info to Mueller. Must have been super expensive for Trump Org.
President Trump and his legal team wanted Comey investigated, for lying to Congress and as to his motivation. Dowd agreed and admitted Comey showed, “strange conduct”, “Never seen anything like conduct between Comey and Yates.” “Didn’t look like the Dept of Justice to me.” Dowd continues, “Not getting anything from Dept of Justice which looks like they are investigating Comey.” Mueller not investigating Comey. Dowd complained about Comey, and Rosey blew him off. Dowd was surprised. Dowd doesn’t understand Rosey at all. Dowd reiterates, it would be part of a normal course of any investigation to take a look at the accuser and see what their motives are – at the beginning of any investigation.
York asked Dowd about Cohen and if he presented a problem for the President, and/or if Cohen questions were part of the investigation. Dowd knew about Cohen but unaware of Cohen for his part of dealing with SC team. Dowd refers to Cohen as, “strange duck”, but overall not something that Dowd got involved in.
York moves the conversation along to talk about Manafort, which, clearly upsets Dowd. Manfort, State of NY jumped to file charges against Manafort. Pardons have not been discussed at any time to Dowd’s knowledge. Dowd says it was, “Not appropriate” to discuss any potential pardons with the President. From Dowd – The NY (state) thing against Manafort “one of the grossest abuses of prosecution”…. I’ve ever seen, they (the acting lawyers in NY are “Outlaws”, (it’s a problem with our) “polarization of justice system”, “They want to do it to hurt Paul Manafort and his family”, “No one would trust the system in NY after this” (speaking about the bias), “Not sure the indictment will stand up there” (because the NY State Atty is so off track, mention of “double jeopardy” because the State of NY is basically filing the same charges as the Feds, so Manafort will remain in jail, even if the President pardons Manafort. Dowd, very serious and with sadness in his voice, “They just want to hurt him when he’s down and not sure how much more you can”. To break the tension, York makes a joke about the NY State Attorney wanting to change the LAW of double jeopardy to go after Manafort and Dowd laughs…, the implication is they (NY) are SO lawless, they would or they would try.
York asks about Roger Stone, which Dowd effectively dismisses as nonconsequential in the investigation. According to Dowd, Roger Stone never popped up in the work on the investigation, “Never a factor”.
From Byron York to Dowd, paraphrasing, ‘Did you ever get the idea that Mueller had something, a crime, on the President, or was he always just looking for something?” Dowd, “Witness” “he had no exposure” “I knew they had nothing” from March 5th. (2018)
End
