The people being driven out of California are variously described by Democrats as too privileged, too independent, too unsustainable, recalcitrant, troglodytic, superseded, irrelevant, unwanted, and guilty by reason of whiteness. INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 ounce lemon juice
  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1 small sugar cube
  • 2 -3 ounces Chilled Champagne

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Add the lemon juice, gin and sugar cube in a shaker with ice
  • Shake for 20 seconds so the sugar cube can dissolve
  • Strain into a Champagne flute
  • Top with Champagne
  • Garnish with a lemon twist

Attitude Adjustment

Ingredients

Makes 1

½ oz. simple syrup (1:1)

¼ oz. Green Chartreuse

¾ oz. lime juice

1½ oz. Matusalem Clasico Rum

Miller High Life to bottom (and as a side sipper)

Lime wheel, to garnish

  1. Step 1Build in the shaker tin—first the simple syrup, then the lime, Chartreuse, and rum. Taste. Miller High Life is deceptively sweet, so before the cocktail gets strained into your glass, it needs to be on the dry side. 
  2. Step 2Grab your Collins glass and add 4 ice cubes, then bottom with some of the beer; set aside. Add 3 ice cubes to the shaking tin and Collins shake. Taste again. Does it feel a little too hot and boozy right now? That’s okay! It’s going to mingle with the beer, which will stretch out the dilution. Strain into the prepared Collins glass. We serve the beer remaining in the pony bottle alongside the cocktail. Garnish with the lime wheel.

Punxsutawney Buck

  • 2 oz Pennsylvania rye.  We happened to use Wigle Whiskey Phil’s Shadow, which is finished in maple syrup barrels for 16 months.  Another Pennsylvania rye you should consider trying is Dad’s Hat.  Either will make a fantastic buck.  
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice. If you want to be less scientific, then simply use 1/2 of a lime.  
  • 6 oz ginger beer.  We used Fever Tree, but Gosling’s is also a good option.  

Step 1: Fill a copper mug with ice.  (If you don’t have copper mugs, then any mug or decent sized glass will do.)

Step 2: Squeeze 1/2 lime into the mug.  

Step 3: Add 2 oz rye.  

Step 4: Top with 6 oz of ginger beer.  

Step 5: Stir gently.

Step 6: Serve and enjoy!
