Thank God For Apex Predators!
God in his infinite wisdom, created a natural order to the lands that we are blessed to live in. And we have learned that the Apex Predator is one of his most important creations. The Wolf is one of His most perfect apex predators.
We didn’t know how important wolves are until, in our ignorance, we hunted them to near extinction. This brief video gives you a condensed version of the story of How Wolves Saved Yellowstone:

When a Wolf pack brings down an Elk, that kill ends up feeding as many as 50 other species, from eagles to insects. Once the pack has fed…they abandon the kill and all the other species come in to eat what is left.
After the Wolves were gone from Yellowstone, the deer and elk became overpopulated and they devastated the vegetation in the valleys and on the riverbanks. Aspen and willow trees did not regenerate because the elk ate the seedlings. Beaver left…as well as other species. Bird populations disappeared. The bare riverbanks collapsed and the river became wide and shallow. This had a devastating effect on the fish population.
All this has gradually changed since the Wolves have been restored in Yellowstone.

Come to think about it, I think there were some big cattle ranchers…Europeans and royalty…who were instrumental in getting the wolves wiped out.
Everybody killed wolves. In fact they were treated as a competing species and pathways were made of wolf skulls. Similar to the Jewish bones crushed and used as paths at the extermination camps
There was a bounty offered on wolves.
This spawned the massive hunting and eradication of the wolves.
I don’t know who put up the money for paying the bounties…but since the big cattle ranchers were the biggest beneficiaries…I’m thinking that they were probably the ones who supplied the money.
Ordinary folks feared wolves. Don’t forget that the European settlers came from Europe where wolves had been feared and woven into myths and legends for centuries. The werewolf attacks were almost certainly savage serial killer attacks and in places with endemic hunger and meat poor diets may have been organised hunts to gain a necessary level of dietary iron. Despite all the stories documented wolf attacks are actually rare.

Go to official autzwich site. Bones were crushed and used as fill on uneven ground. Note in photos camp officials always had shiny boots whilst the camps were a sea of mud. They needed fill for paths. Treblinka site used crushed bones as local fertiliser too. Photos of bone crushers avail online. No proof of skin lamps, or human soap. Documentary proof ie transport records of hair shipment and gold from teeth.
oh, like the exhibit of shoes that are placed on a slant so they look like more? I just looked at a photo of Auschwitz paths taken in 2017 and they were not in fact crushed bones, they were made of decomposed granite. And the Jewish tombstones used for roads, supposedly by the Nazis, were actually used by the Communists, mostly after WWII.

True but most of our apex predators are just that. They have no empathy or loyalty to anyone but themselves. Pres Trump is an oddity. A business predator with a heart of gold for the little people and a rock solid loyalty to the USA and the constitution
The wolves have no empathy for the other creatures…but those creatures benefit from the wolves being there.
The wolves have loyalty to their pack, mainly as a survival instinct.
In our own species…yes, our apex predators can be opportunistic assholes who are looking out for number one.
But our economy benefits from the jobs they create.
People benefit from the income they earn at those jobs.
Taxes are paid as a result…and municipal projects are done that benefit everyone.
Our apex predators also stimulate innovation and invention of new technologies.
They do this in pursuit of their own self interest…but we all benefit from it.
Take Elon Musk as an example.
He is an irksome jerk and an opportunist…but he is also a risk-taker who has spurred the creation of a lot of innovative technology, in the pursuit of his goals.
Wheatie – you make a great point! I never thought about how in a society (of humans) we kind of need our apex predators… and how they are considered “bad” to today’s progressive culture. Toxic masculinity, white privilege, man-spaining and man-spreading are all considered evil. It seems like subliminal messaging (remember the old SNL Kevin Nealon reports?) and politically correct (or incorrect) issues are aligned.
*I came from this area of Wyoming as a kid, I remember the re-introduction of the wolves. Native Wyomingites were angry and thought “Californians” were taking over and bringing their ideology with them. But these people were ranchers who had a lot to lose since they let their cattle roam in the forest to fatten up all summer. However the cows are NOT a natural part of the forest ecology! I guess I can see both sides of the coin. I didn’t know how the wolves affect the rivers and water falls and the landscape in general. Good videos – thanks for sharing them!

Seriously, this is actually a very interesting lesson in the BALANCE of NATURE as being a SMART SYSTEM.
Letting a SMART SYSTEM manage itself – that may be a good idea.
One of the questions in that Q&A video was about the wolves versus the elk being a ‘fair fight’.
And to his credit, the Park Service dude pointed out that that the wolves were risking their lives and risking great bodily harm, in taking down a prey that outweighed them by about 600 lbs.
Risk takers.
We have our risk takers in our own species, as well.
It’s like the commie Left is trying to destroy that…by demonizing and vilifying our risk takers.
They use the lure of ‘free stuff’ to try to control people and discourage independence & self-reliance.

Saving the wolves was muh “bleeding heart” issue back in the day. I remember meeting Pat Schroeder at my girlfriend’s house back then to talk about wildlife conservation. I didn’t know the difference between dems and repubes at the time, just wanted to save wolves, birds of prey and knew Reagan was kicking ass. Ah, the good ole days 🇺🇲… and to think, now we have PTrump!

I actually saw another video sometime back that explained how having the wolves put the entire ecosystem back into balance over time. It was very interesting.

The symbolism of KOM defeating VIETNAM SOLDIER is one I missed. These people are sick.
But the delicious irony is the symbolic mirror of history that followed.
After the fall of Saigon, and a period of KOM darkness in Vietnam, they realized that the KOM path was not working and needed reform. So in the mid 1980s they began the slow process of reforming to a market economy. Darkness to light.

You know, my FIL sounded a lot like this when he was delirious recently. Lots of words, lots of inflection, no actual meaning we could discern.
I don’t know if many people here are connected with the various homeschooling movements, or with people who are homeschooling. In the interest of potentially being useful, I’m sharing some information I stumbled on to recently.
A number of people have raised a number of red flags about Classical Conversations, which ostensibly is a homeschool co-op. Extreme program rigidity, control of information within the community, questions about how tutors are paid and tax implications (classifying tutors as “independent contractors” but then trying to control everything the contractor can or can’t do, which is by definition not “independent”), questionable claims that the tuition program is less expensive than private schooling, comparisons of the organization to MLMs, cult groups, or spiritually abusive churches.
Many people report the program is working for them, but you can as easily find others who say the program did not work for them or that there were other concerns that led them to separate from Classical Conversations. A common theme was high control with little responsibility. There was also a lack of tolerance for disagreement or divergent opinion – reminds me of another blog I used to comment on, but I digress…
These blog posts lead with questions where much of the real meat is in the comments sections. Most of us here on Wolf’s site are already pretty comfortable with this kind of format, but I still wanted to point it out. Don’t skip the comments because that’s the bulk of the message.

My daughter and her little girl are involved in this group. Our city also has many children being homeschooled… and many homeschool resources, an orchestra, arts classes, etc. They like the socialization and they both have friends in the groups, orchestra and their own church.
Granddaughter is in the 3rd grade this year. They seem very happy with the program, so far. Neither of them has expressed any concerns or doubts about the curriculum or organization. Daughter had some classroom/teaching experience in graduate school and elementary school level. She’s a lawyer, speech pathologist and her husband is a physician/professor in a family practice residency program. They are pretty discerning people. They are committed Christians and attend a PCA church.
Our daughter is not one of the organizers, but she does teach one of the weekly group classes. Their group meetings take place in a church that has a broad outreach in the community. She says it’s very demanding on her time to do the planning, etc. for the group. However, homeschooling in general is time-consuming if it is done as meticulously as our daughter does everything.
Previously, our Granddaughter was in a Christian school (Our city has 3-4 non-denominational Christian schools, several Catholic, one Episcopal and a one exclusive private school.) that is known to have a demanding college prep curriculum, but hit a snag when she was in a class with a new teacher, several boys with behavior problems and a lot of distraction, frustration, and the teacher used too much time correcting boys. Granddaughter could not concentrate on classes and began to show signs of anxiety, fear of falling behind, not sleeping, etc.. She is a very happy, loving, outgoing, compassionate child but very conscientious about her work. So the parents decided on homeschooling, which they did solo the first year. This is the first year with Classical Conversations.
Each child, family, school, group, class and year are different and will fit or fail to meet needs, personalities, expectations. Heck, even Jesus had folks who were not happy and left him.

Wow, I read your first link. I didn’t know how intense some aspects of homeschooling are or have been taken over. We have two grand nieces who are home schooled, brilliant, and way ahead of the kids who are public or Christian schooled, but they are also fun, typical military kids, who also are proficient in Chinese and English.

Amazing Polly on youtube has done a couple of videos on “impossible meats” that I posted some time back…really disturbing stuff. I recommend watching them. If artificial meat isn’t creepy enough, one of the ‘meat’ factories was located directly across the street from a Planned Parenthood…and we all know how moral they are…

I tried the beyond burger at home and then in a restaurant to see if theres any difference in taste. I didnt really like it. There are only a few veg burgers I will eat and this one really is meh. Also in the store the beyond burger comes in a 2 pack, for $7 bucks. Very pricey for meh food.

I don’t like the idea of GMOs, and the saturation of soy as a protein substitute in our food supply is a serious problem – though the control freaks would have you believe otherwise.
Besides people having soy intolerance, soy protein is full of Tyramine – which they now know can cause headaches, migraines, increased blood pressure and heartbeat.
My husband did so much research trying to find why he couldn’t sleep, when he’d never had a problem before, and by God’s Grace, stumbled on the fact that Tyramine intolerance actually causes a methamphetamine like reaction – that’s exactly what was happening to him – instead of migraines, he couldn’t fall asleep – like someone who had taken stimulants. He avoids Tyramine foods, and can sleep. Also must avoid MSG.

One relative of ours who had triplets years after her older child had one, but that was a special case. There is such a thing as a “sprinkle shower,” but that really should be reserved for a child of the opposite sex coming in a completely different season, or if there is more than one.
Actually, now that I think about it, a second shower for a baby that comes quite a bit after older children, like 8-10 years or more, is not uncommon. But that close together, no.
It’s pretty much ‘anything goes’ these days, I think.
Lot of people think nothing of having a shower for each pregnancy…no matter how close the timeline.
Same with weddings.
Some women wear white, no matter how many times they’ve been married.
It’s like they think that a white dress is a ‘tradition’ or something.

The late pregnancy showers I was thinking about happened in 1975ish and about 1983. The first of those children has a PhD in violin performance, and the second is the mother of three herself now.
Wearing white for a wedding, yes, is recent. At this point, marriage is so divorced from a covenant anymore and is so much an industry, it’s all but meaningless in some circles.
I only had my little guy and did not have a shower. Most anyone was older who would come and not interested. Although I remember they used to be hosted by a friend when I was a kid. My wedding shower was embarassing and awful so it wasnt so bad, but being taken to lunch wouldve been nice. People gave me plenty of things but I bought most of what I needed.
Having that many showers is just greedy and wierd.
I never had a baby shower. I did not know people and just had moved to MO when I was 5 months pregnant.
I think it is for those who have relatives or good long established friends. I was invited to one shower when my sons wife was expecting their first child.
I agree on the greedy thing about showers, especially after a cousin in-law went ON and ON about how it took her FOREVER to choose the stroller she wanted.
From me, if I’m invited to a shower, the kid gets crocheted beanies/hats. I do a year’s worth starting at newborn the season the child comes. One cousin’s child got a pumpkin AND a Santa hat. That was the one I did a fishing hat too.
Those are so much better than a gift card. Its a keepsake!
I don’t understand why people here are so upset about multiple baby showers. What, exactly, is wrong with that? TBH, I thought most people had a shower for each baby……and I had a shower for my 2nd wedding. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that either. My future MIL and SIL wanted to give a shower so their friends could meet me and participate in the celebration.
As for wearing white, I wasn’t allowed to wear it at my first wedding when I was 17. Oh, no, I wasn’t PURE enough for that! SMH – bunch of damned hypocrites, was what they were!!!! In fact, they didn’t even want to allow me to get married in the church! SMH
Around here, people have one baby shower unless there are extenuating circumstances. Bridal showers…depends on circumstances as well. My brother’s wife didn’t have one. They claimed they didn’t need it. They did, but that’s another story altogether.
These days, many people who get married and/or have babies have already been living together for some time and have their households established. As for the extra baby showers, a part of the focus, particularly in low-income areas, is so the new baby will get at least some “new” clothes vs. hand-me-downs.
I’m the oldest in my family and always wore hand me downs. There’s a coat I wore in second grade, I was the third girl to wear it. 15-20 years later, I spotted it across the Church, and walked over to the family that had it at the time. That coat had been passed around the parish for almost 20 years.
But, that’s the way we did things here. Now, people give their kids’ stuff to charity.
That is the way we do things here as well. I pass on my granddaughter’s clothes to a friend’s granddaughter. Yard/garage sales are, of course, huge here. We always used to go to the one’s in the ritzy neighborhoods – man, you can get some REALLY good stuff cheap, many brand new with the tags still on them. 90% of my granddaughter’s stuff came from yard sales, including her furniture. Set of dresser, book case, desk in white for $100!

Okay, help me out here. I see from this story a premature baby suffering from an incurable ailment and the mother is told to take it off the respirator. Then I see the child is moved to end of life care at which time the baby got well.
Was this a physical move? I’d assume so. Moved to a different ward. Was the child then also removed from what was keeping him from getting better, or worse making him sick and that then was the cause of the miracle?
Sorry for the assumptions but I wouldn’t trust doctors in that country where the state decides who lives and who dies.
the mother believes the baby got better because she prayed and prayed to God that he would–the doctors did their part she acknowledges, but attributes the baby’s improvement to prayer…

New businesses, corporations, non-profits, etc. probably get investigated as a matter of course, put through their paces, open their books, etc. to prove they are on the up and up.
Some comments here:
— The IRS often targets its audits based on reports in the press, whether there is merit to the reporting or it is fabricated by MSM types with an ax to grind.
— PM could be paying taxes on his income from the Q stuff, and we would not know it. This is perfectly on the up and up; the tax law has an entire set of rules for charities that raise money from taxable activities called the “unrelated business income tax” rules.
— PM’s activities relating to Q may not be making enough money to be taxable. Just because you get payments for something doesn’t mean you have a profit. (While it is unlikely,) it is entirely possible that PM’s expenses from these activities exceed his income, in which case the IRS would argue it is a hobby and deny the loss.
— MSM types who claim people are taking deductions for payments made to PM are pretending to know something they cannot possibly know. PM was not making money from Q prior to 2018. If there is a universe of people claiming 2018 payments to PM as charitable contributions, only a very small portion of that universe would get a tax benefit because only a very small proportion of Americans benefit from itemized deductions. Moreover, a large proportion of the people who itemize their deductions have not yet filed their tax returns (most returns for people with itemized deductions are extended beyond the April 15 deadline that applies generally). And the IRS does not audit returns in real time; they lag a couple of years behind. So, nobody on the planet has this information, and anyone who tells you they know this is happening is lying to you.

I came across Praying Medic several months ago and he introduced me to Q. I fond his interpretations interesting.

Our house was unoccupied for 23 years and we bought it in ’94, so, no one lived here since 1971. The renovation was massive and took six months.
We fought MOST about the attic.
Every subcontractor and my soon to be husband, thought I had so much space, cuz the house is so damn big, I would never use the attic. Yet, I fought viciously with the HVAC guys who wanted to run ductwork all over the attic – it was a perfect workshop for ME. After the renovation was done, I set to work making a workroom for me.
It’s the best spot in the whole house.
The attic is 2300 square feet, with a wide wooden staircase leading up and normal 5 panel door. The floor has pine plank flooring and a 22′ ceiling in the center section, about 35′ x 35′ and is surrounding by galleys, which have an 8′ ceiling, sloping down to the hip of the roof. The galleys are about 8′ deep. The space also has a 15’x10′ cedar closet.
I found a few treasures in the attic missed by the workmen.
I also found hundreds/thousands of OLD shotgun shells, scattered all over the attic and basement during the renovation.
One Christmas, I bought my stepson clear glass ornaments which were fillable. He had a lot of little mementos and he wanted to make his own ornaments. I helped him until he got the hang of it – he was about 10 yrs old at the time. During some afternoons, he would work on them by himself.
Unknown to me, my stepson had found several old shotgun shells, and was loading the decades-old gunpowder into the glass ornaments. From the garage, he used longer firecracker fuses from leftover mortar shells to create his “mini-bombs”. He had a stash of a dozen or more to take them out to deer camp. He thought he was cool.
I discovered them by accident.
On a rainy December day, I was up in the attic, wrapping presents, singing away to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on the boombox. One of the fabric ends on a package wrap was fraying, so I used a boat lighter to sear the end. I set the boat lighter down into a spare aluminum tin which was close by………..the same aluminum tin where he was mixing gun powder, and WHOOSSSSSShhhhh up went the flame to the ceiling.
Diving to get away from the blast, I fell into a pile of cheap glass filler ornaments, breaking dozens of them.
The “fire and fury” was gone but I had no idea what happened.
I started screaming.
Top of my lungs, screaming for help……………., nothing.
Husband and stepson, downstairs watching a football game, oblivious.
The house is all plaster, difficult to hear noises….. or screaming.
I got up, investigated a little bit, saw the old orange plastic shell tips, and figured out what he had been doing.
I made my way downstairs with a full head of steam, ready to dispense my first real ass-whipping on my stepson. I had blood all over me (not badly), and pieces of glass stuck all over my left side, and walked into the den to find husband and stepson.
I was carrying a fire extinguisher.
They looked at me, shocked.
“Can’t you hear me screaming for help?”, husband was on his feet like whiplash, thinking there was an active fire.
Apparently, one entire side of my body was covered in soot, my hair was singed, and I looked like Lucy Ricardo on a bad day or one half of Dick Van Dyke as a chimney sweep.
But I hadn’t stopped to check my damn lipstick and arrange my hair. I was looking for some 10yr old a$$ to beat.
“What the hell happened to you, babe?”, husband said. I pointed at Gray and said, “I’m gonna rip you limb from limb!”, and started to move towards him. I explained, spitting and gesticulating wildly.
Step son RAN.
Husband chased him into the back yard.
Probably a good thing I stayed out of it.

In southern culture, it’s a big deal. Think months of preparation, farmers seeding fields with acres of sunflower, and women polishing silver.

So, husband and I went, and after libations, about dusk, we all go and sit in the field and wait on the doves to arrive……… to kill them.
Couples are far apart, of course, so no one shoots anyone else.
Husband and I got into the field and he only had 2 shotgun shells. He let me have them to “shoot”. We laughed and talked, we both love guns but we are not big hunters.
Well, a dove came across the field, straight for me. Everyone was shouting at me, so I shot.
And blew the dove to pieces. It could not have been more than 15′ from me.
We sat in the field, with me, petting the dead dove, for another hour.
That was my last dove hunt.
The Great Mistletoe Hunt.
One of our staff members brought be a big branch of mistletoe one year. I had never seen real mistletoe before and I was thrilled. Our metro guests were amazed!!!!! I dressed up the branch with a big bow and hung it from the keystone in our big oak archway.
Well, the following year, I wanted more mistletoe.
Deer season begins over Thanksgiving weekend, and felt a little badly for all the Bambis in the woods…. but thought since the hunters are out there, maybe one of them could find me some mistletoe.
I took an add out in the local paper. Big trophy, pic in the local paper, for the highest “point” and largest KILL of mistletoe. I made a party out of it. Huge pot of chili and sides, with plenty of beer for the boys.
It became a “thing” and we all had plenty of mistletoe. Win-win.
