Just as a random thought…..people generally know that many English words have Greek or Latin roots, but things get complicated beyond that.

My ultra woke niece writes medical explanations like this. I’m not sure what company she works for but my understanding was that she interpreted medical language articles for the quick condensed version for randos asking a question about a disease.

Much of this is that cars are lasting longer. In the 1970s, it wasn’t unusual for a car to be pretty much shot at 100,000 miles.
I don’t suspect that most people who have the means to afford a new car are holding onto their current car until after it hits well over 100k miles.

I’m holding on to my 1994 car with over a quarter-million miles. It doesn’t spy on me, it has no black box, and I pretty much understand how all its parts operate.

Actually I don’t mind LEDs but there are some jobs they cannot do. For instance coin grading must be done under 100W incandescents.
Someone was telling me the other day incandescents were going for $50 a pop due to scarcity, and I thought “I’m rich!!!” but it turns out that there are plenty available from non-ripoff sources.
Severe duty bulbs [used for auto garages, etc.] are incandescent. Available in Home Depot and WallyWorld.
Without looking, I’d expect anything with a name like that to be expensive (and if they’re not lots of people would buy them and use them elsewhere, which must not happen according to “them”).
I doubt that people that don’t work in garages and similar environments even know about them. Yes they are more expensive because they are made sturdier.

To Steve — while I’m sure you’ll have lenses to capture the sun and moon at totality, it would be awesome if you had a wider lens that could capture an image like the one pictured.
I’d want to know the total degree spread. But this does look like a job for a full frame camera. I took my sun pictures the other day with a crop camera; narrower field of view AND a higher pixel density. I have a lens that will cover half of the sky if needed.
Being able to use a different camera will be a bonus, no need to swap lenses. (It’s bad enough I will have to unscrew the 20 stop filter for totality, then screw it back on.)
And of course this is predicated on good weather.

In the disbarment trial of Trump’s former DOJ official Jeffrey Clark, VoterGA’s Garland Favorito is going over his audit of the Fulton County election.
His audit – 60% error rate – results did not match ballot images.
Tally sheet totals didn’t match the ballot images.
Found falsified tally sheets – 100 to nothing for Biden. Some were 200 to nothing, a technical impossibility. Whereas the ballot images showed a 60-40 ratio of Biden to Trump.

They found 200k duplicate scanned ballots, but ongoing research has bumped that number up to 375k.
The hand audit count was short – 17k votes had no ballot images. Dr. Spock confirmed that in the Raffensperger case, called them Cast Vote Records.
A ballot image is necessary to create a CVR. It’s not possible to have more votes than ballot images. It’s like creating votes out of thin air.

Governor Jim Pillen of Nebraska, a very smart and popular Governor, who has done some really great things, came out today with a very strong letter in support of returning Nebraska’s Electoral Votes to a Winner-Take-All System. Most Nebraskans have wanted to go back to this system for a very long time, because it’s what 48 other States do – It’s what the Founders intended, and it’s right for Nebraska. Thank you Governor for your bold leadership. Let’s hope the Senate does the right thing. Nebraskans, respectfully ask your Senators to support this Great Bill!

The founders intended for a bunch of disinterested electors to meet at each state capitol and discuss things and cast their ballots.
Instead we get this situation where the voters choose a slate of pre-committed electors who then essentially engage in a dog and pony show of casting their ballots the way that was foreordained in November.
If they were disinterested, why would they participate at all?
Good point, that’s the wrong word.
I meant that they were expected to be uncommitted, to the point where they could discuss the issue amongst themselves rather than go in with a partisan loyalty to a candidate of a certain party, and maybe change each others’ minds. There was no expectation of unanimity even within a state’s electors.
Obviously that fell by the wayside when parties formed. Something the founders didn’t intend.
The Framers were very skittish about political parties. The constitution was written without parties in mind. To my way of thinking, forcing a voter to vote for a VP just because that person is a member of the same party as a POTUS candidate is unconstitutional.
But that is one side effect of political parties in federal elections.
Unfortunately when you design a system to be winner-takes-all or first-past-the post, you will end up with exactly two major parties. There’s no way for a third party to take hold unless support for one of the majors spontaneously collapses. (This is part of what a proper instant runoff/ranked choice ballot system tries to address…the wasted vote fear that the two parties both use to keep people in line.)
I don’t know how a system where you could pick a VP from a different party would even work. There’s no constitutional provision for picking separate groups of electors for both races; one group of electors votes for both offices. That’s built into the constitution.

Just received a tip from a Wisconsin voter in Bayfield County.
They ran out of paper ballots & voters could only vote electronically.

Same here in TN. Printed out after selections and entered into the tabulator by the voter. They could still mess with the tabulator, but it would be more difficult with audits against the paper ballots and visual observation by vetted/pre-approved auditors. We don’t do Fulton County well here.
Ours are printed out and we take them to a table with screens for privacy, and color in the boxes for our choices. Then we put them in the machine that tabulates.
That’s pretty much the way it works here…assuming you vote in person and don’t just use the mail-in ballot.

Reading Jack Smith’s response on jury instructions and it’s clear that the gloves are off btw DOJ and Judge Cannon.
One defense attorney just told me: “The tone Smith is taking with Cannon is no longer persuasion but outright threats. Unheard of dynamic btw DOJ and the bench.”
Jack Smith’s response is hysterical (and not in a funny way in a desperate way) bc he knows he has little control over her decision related to final jury instructions.
And he is arguing the basis for Trump’s “unauthorized possession” of national defense material rests on Obama exec order not the Presidential Records Act.
So everyone who cried for months that “DRUMPF BROKE THE PRA!” can sit down. Jack Smith says PRA now has nothing to do with the case.
Also reminder of the bait and switch here. NARA sought files based on the claims Trump was violating the PRA. He produced 15 boxes of papers. NARA then claimed they found records with “classified markings” and sent a criminal referral (1st time ever) to FBI.
FBI promptly opened investigation. FBI sent a subpoena to Trump in May 2022 seeking more records with “classified markings.” They turned over 38 more files.
Then in August, FBI sought search warrant seeking “national defense information.” Reminder too we have not seen full unredacted application for search warrant.
Did DOJ seek warrant under the PRA or the Espionage Act or Obama’s Exec Order or….what?
I will separate out Smith’s threats to Cannon (unusual and toothless for the most part) later but this is basically the jury instructions DOJ wants to use.
This also might be a problem for DOJ bc it appears Trump still had Q security clearance at Dept. of Energy–one that DOE retroactively rescinded after Smith indicted Trump.
Also during March 14 hearing, DOJ claimed there was no formal process for a president to either receive or lose security clearance. So this might be another area of contention
This is why Smith is so angry–he knows if Cannon proceeds with the proposed scenario presented in her jury instructions order, he is, as one defense attorney told me at the time, f*cked.
He essentially demands that she rule now on jury instructions (she doesn’t have to) or dismiss the counts so he can appeal. If she doesn’t, he might seek “mandamus” at appellate court–asking 11th Circuit to tell Cannon what to do in the case. Very rare.
A reminder that this is Smith’s indictment.

FBI Arrests Couple Three Years Later for Being Inside the Capitol on January 6 for Twelve Minutes
The FBI arrested a Loudon County, Virginia, couple early Thursday morning for entering the Capitol building three years ago on January 6, 2021, according to a recent interview of the couple.
Thomas Kasperek and his wife Dr. Daphne Kasperek told America First with Sebastian Gorka in an exclusive interview on Monday that the FBI came to their home around 6:00 a.m. in cars with flashing lights, pounded on the door, and yelled for them to come out with their hands up.
Thomas said he was up, but that Daphne was still sound asleep. He said he woke her up gently and told her to call his friend Richard Ryan, who was a co-plaintiff in a case related to an election integrity case they filed in November 2022 against Loudoun County’s Electoral Board and Board of Supervisors “based on concerns that the electric voting machines were made in China.” The case was dismissed January 6, 2023, according to LoudonNow.com.
Thomas meanwhile went to open the door.
“They opened the door and stuck an M-4 in my face. They were in full gear,” he told Gorka. “About six guys at the door with their guns drawn.”
He said he asked for a warrant, but they told him they would show it to him when they got downtown.
He said they put him in hand and ankle cuffs with chains and walked him down his driveway and down the street. The FBI also did the same to Daphne. “Never, ever had anything like this happened,” she said.
They were then taken downtown to the FBI field office, fingerprinted, swabbed for DNA, photographed, and then interrogated, they said.
Thomas said it was apparent that the FBI had been building a case against them for entering the Capitol three years ago.
They were then taken to the federal courthouse and handed over to U.S. marshals, who questioned them again separately, he said.
Thomas said they were charged with four misdemeanors — entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a Capitol building; and demonstrating or picketing in any Capitol building.
Thomas said they were inside the Capitol building for 12 minutes.

The modRNA COVID-19 “vaccines” were designed and engineered to damage / destroy important elements and mechanisms of the body’s immune system. Why hasn’t it shown up as yet in every person who took a modRNA COVID-19 “vaccine?” —
It can take time for immune system damage to show up. At the same time, there may be some fortunate COVID-19 “vaccinated” persons whose natural immune systems have found a way to avoid this damage / destruction.
Again, in my opinion: The vast (over 90%) majority of COVID-19 “vaccinated” persons either have immune system damage / destruction now; or, will present with evidence of it within the next 2 years.
All of your suggestions, as well as many others, could actually be tested with properly done studies, and we’d not need to speculate on why.
Now all we need is funding…which won’t happen.

IMO, it is 99.999% inconceivable that Ms. Cole was not “fully vaccinated” and/or “boosted.” The station most likely had “vaccine mandates.” And there was also Mr. Colbert himself being a “get vaxxed” pusher.
Ms. Cole may have had cancer in the past and it was under control / in remission prior to her getting “fully vaccinated” and/or “boosted.” The modRNA COVID-19 “vaccines” can, and do, re-establish cancers that were in remission after the patient gets “vaccinated.” And there’s the real possibility that she had no prior history of cancer before getting “vaccinated”, but then was diagnosed with cancer after taking the vax.
How many of his ‘close friends’ have to die before he ‘wakes’ from his ‘woke’ slumber? Three? Five? Most of them?
Colbert needs to really figure out why he has tears over this. Is it just because he has lost a friend? Or is it because her passing has altered some of his life plans?

The interstate commerce clause was sold (or at least I was told so in school) as a way to prevent states from erecting trade barriers against each other. (Then why not just forbid the states to do so?)
It has instead turned out to be one of the biggest wedges for the federal government to interfere in our daily lives in ways we mostly don’t see on the surface.
Example: “Why are all toilets junk these days?”–The apparent answer: cheapass companies producing quality crap we have no choice but to buy–The real answer, the fed gov used the interstate commerce power to regulate the good ones out of existence.
Note that the government just loves it when we place the blame on businesses.

I don’t live alone, and the fiancee gets annoyed when I turn the bathroom light on when she’s trying to sleep — so I frequently find my way in with a nightlight.
