i remember hearing that Walmart’s goal was originally to showcase American made products till they realized they could import the cheap chinese stuff to keep prices lower. so we bought the cheaper stuff and our factory orders declined. we saved money at the expense of our neighbor’s jobs and the quality of the items we bought.
I think that change occurred when “the kids” took over from Sam Walton. We had the same thing happen over here with ALDI, and even IKEA. Bill and Dave’s grandkids (Hewlett and Packard) are not at all like their brilliant, conservative (and conservationist) grandparents… sad.

It was. I lived in Arkansas when their national expansion began. I went to two store openings then and back in East TN a decade later in the mid 80’s. Sam would attend many of the openings and give speeches. He talked openly about always taking American made products first. If it was not made here he would then get it elsewhere. But he tried to get manufacturers and suppliers in America to make or provide the products first. He talked how he worked with them on pricing and supply.
Then the globalists and children got in control and ruined it.
We were in Costco yesterday. We noticed a few of their small kitchen appliances, mens shavers, and hair clippers had gone up over $10. since last week.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. The Central Valley of California has a similar problem, where too much ground water extraction has caused the San Joaquin valley to drop a few feet; so they have put in place limitations on groundwater extraction.
For China, that will hurt hard. They have expanded farming based on groundwater, so reductions will mean les food, and a hungry population. The only way I can think of to “fix it” would be a massive nuclear desalination program or exotic atmospheric water harvesting that has not been proven at scale
This is not a small problem. “In the north China plane, ground water started falling at an alarming rate. 0.5 to 1 meters per year”. That is not sustainable on a fairly short time period. One river near Beijing, the Chaobai, has dried up via soaking into the land as the water table dropped. (8 min 50 sec. into the video). Essentially China is on a collision course with becoming a desert. It MUST get an alternative water source before the ground water is gone. Conservation measures can help, but not by much. Even swapping to lower water crops has limits (partly since farmers are likely already using the best crop for their location and water supply).

“Colion Noir dropped another heater — this time tackling a wild new frontier: using the Second Amendment to defend your privacy against drones.
Yep, you heard that right. Florida, always at the tip of the spear for pushing freedom-based laws, is advancing a bill that would allow homeowners to use reasonable force to take down drones flying too low over their property — specifically within 500 feet and under 200 feet of altitude.
Noir summed it up perfectly: if a drone is hovering outside your window, recording your every move like it’s starring in a weird DIY documentary, why shouldn’t you have the right to defend your airspace?
Florida has introduced a drone defense bill. Do you support shooting down drones on your property?
With a legally-owned shotgun, no less. As he put it, “if it’s hovering low enough for me to hit it with some birdshot, I can treat it like a clay pigeon with a camera.”
Sounds awesome, right? Well, of course, the federal government — and specifically the FAA — has jumped in to say “hold on.”

According to the feds, drones are considered aircraft, and shooting at them could bring serious federal charges. Florida might say “blast away,” but Uncle Sam still says “touch an aircraft, and we’ll see you in court.”
Colion walked through the messy legal tug-of-war this creates. PCMag pointed out how vague “reasonable force” really is. Gizmodo highlighted how federal and state laws might clash. American Military News warned of lawsuits if the law isn’t crystal clear. And Fox News reminded everyone Florida already has privacy protections — this bill would just add more teeth.
Then Noir threw on the tinfoil hat (and let’s be honest, he might not be wrong): What if the federal government’s real concern isn’t protecting hobby drones but keeping their surveillance drones off-limits?
After all, if everything’s protected as “aircraft,” even government drones flying uninvited over your backyard are untouchable.
In a hilarious side note, Noir also pitched Mossberg’s new 990 Aftershock as the perfect “drone deterrent” — lightweight, fast-handling, and, let’s face it, way cooler than lugging a full tactical shotgun to your pool party.
At the end of the day, Noir boiled it down to one real question:
Where does defending your privacy end and reckless endangerment begin?
If Florida’s drone defense bill passes, you can bet Floridians will be gearing up — maybe even setting up backyard “skeet shooting” for intrusive drones.
But for now, even if that buzzing machine outside your window is begging for a little shotgun justice, you might want to check with a lawyer before you pull the trigger.

One possible problem I wonder about with shooting down drones is the same one that occurs when people shoot into the air above them. People have been hurt and killed by gunshots not aimed at them. Also, you always have to know your target and what’s behind it. Shooting at drones in a neighborhood when homes and people are nearby seems dangerous.
But I agree that drones should not be able to surveil people and invade their privacy. I’m not sure what the solution is.

I suspect that using a shotgun to shoot up into the air, particularly a small sized pellet shell, like a 7, 7-1/2 or 8, should still be plenty to bring down a drone, but may not be nearly so dangerous to people or property as a traditional bullet falling out of the sky.
But I don’t know.
According to Brave Browser AI assistant, a pellet the size of a BB falls from the sky at 51mph (75 feet per second), limited by air resistance.
I wouldn’t want to catch one in the eye, but if it hit anywhere else, I doubt it would do much harm at that speed.

A handheld laser powerful enough to disable a drone might solve the problem. No need to worry about where a shot lands, so that liability is removed, but there is still the problem of where the drone crashes.
If the drone lands on someone’s head, the person who shot it down is probably liable.
But if handheld lasers ever became adequate for the job, the drones would implement defense measures, and it would be an arms race, sort of like radar detectors and cop radar.
Just think if all of those hand-held Spectra-Physics Lasers were upgradable with a sort of “pimp my laser” action

Totally harmless if you miss and it falls to the ground, but would definitely end the drone flight if the drone is within range and your aim is decent.
I recall videos years ago of they types of tools LE was using to deal with drones. One shot a net out quite a distance. Cuppa’s idea of EMP type jamming is probably the way to go.

Yesterday, my little Yorkie was attacked by a large, vicious German Shepherd dog who ran onto my property from where he lives next door. He tried to kill my dog. I fought this vicious dog off. Got my little guy and myself inside my house while this vicious dog was then trying TO GET INTO MY OWN HOUSE.
Called Animal Control after we were safely inside. Had my dog’s injuries confirmed.
Took my dog to the Emergency Vet for assessment, treatment started, overnight stay.
My little guy so far — no internal injuries; significant puncture wound on his back near the spine where the vicious dog bit him; no concussion symptoms so far from the vicious dog throwing my dog around while I was fighting the big dog off; has various medications to take for the next 2 weeks (antibiotics, pain meds, etc.).
Picked up my little guy from the Emergency Vet hospital and took him to his regular vet to be assessed further; he also needs a Rabies booster (since I know nothing about the dog that attacked him) to make sure there’s compliance with NC Dog Bite laws.
Called the country club that abuts my property and the one next door, told them what happened, and warned them to be aware there’s a vicious dog on the property next door to mine.
Called the chair of the Durham County board of supervisors and left a message about what happened and requesting that they call me back asap.
Called a local Animal Law group and spoke with them. An attorney will call me back.
Called the local contractor who does work on my property and arranged for a 6ft-high solid wood fence to be installed asap along the property line between my property and the one next door where the vicious dog lives. I may need to fence my entire yard.
Should ask local police about getting a Taser for protection.

Since the German Shepherd apparently and fortunately did not bite or attack you, I wonder if the dog is vicious toward people, or whether it is just dangerous to other dogs, and whether the laws differentiate between the two.
If I was your neighbor, and my dog had attacked your dog, I would be offering to pay your dog’s medical bills and whatever else I could do to take responsibility (like putting a fence in my own yard to contain my dog) and hopefully avoid creating an enemy of my neighbor, due to my dog.
A chain link fence might be cheaper, and would preserve the view, if that is a consideration.

German Shepherds as a breed are a mixed bag. I have known some good ones, and some truly bad ones. Even with the same owner. My former neighbor owned two. One was great and grew old. The other had to be put down before age three. She was unpredictable and snapped at people seemingly at random. She was just scary. Bad breeding or something. Remember Kristi Noem shooting the snappy dog? That’s not considered a bad thing to do out here in the West.
Your neighbors probably need a visit by the local police. Most places have laws about dogs roaming free. I had a friend whose dogs were chasing deer out in the county. They were confiscated and euthanized. A dog who attacks livestock here is fair game to be shot by the owner of the attacked animals. And around here, dogs (and cats) are considered to be similar to livestock. Barn cats are working animals. Guard dogs and herding dogs are, too. And any dog can be a watchdog.
Do your due diligence and know your rights. Even if you protect your dog with a fence, the vicious dog may attack another dog with someone who can’t defend them and get away. Or, God forbid, it may attack a small child.

My little guy is back home. He needed to go from the Emergency Vet today straight over to his regular vet in order to be further assessed and to get a Rabies booster shot. since I don’t know anything about the Rabies vaccination status of the German Shepherd who attacked him yesterday.
Solas has an “Elizabethan Cone” to wear for 2 weeks while his wounds heal.
He has a drain sticking out of his right side for fluids to drain out from the various procedures that were performed at the Emergency Vet hospital. The drain will be removed next week.
He has several meds to take — for pain control; a combo antibiotic; another drug to keep him slightly sedated for a few days. Thank goodness he likes peanut-flavor Pill Pockets.
He’ll have to sleep in a “mini-room” for the next 2 weeks. I rigged one up for him in my bedroom, where he normally sleeps. The issue is he can’t walk around during the night or “investigate” if he hears something during the night. He has to stay put while he’s healing.
A significant number of stitches were needed to close the bite puncture wounds on his back.
Solas is a fighter. He’ll be OK. It will just take some time.
Meanwhile, his “human mom” — Yours Truly — is vigorously pursuing the “Do not get an Irishman riled up” ethos.
