If Republicans don’t pass the “big beautiful” bill — there will be no tax cuts and no deregulation in time to help the economy stabilize before midterms.
And republicans will lose the midterms.
This should’ve been passed already because the more time that we have before the midterms for the tax cuts and regulation to stimulate the economy, the better.
Congress can’t help themselves, Republicans just don’t want to win. They want to be in the minority party so they can fundraise off of outrage and do nothing to fix the country.

That’s about what I thought: that sites like these are monitored to see what people are thinking, etc. That would seem to indicate that commenting on them is a good way to get word to the higher-ups, but that’s not the case if commenters are viewed merely as products and if AI is just collecting data.
I knew a guy who worked on “sentiment analysis” of online customer writing – interesting stuff. (You know – like where they ask you to explain or comment in surveys.) It bridged the two classic divisions of document analysis – automated and human.
They’re not just looking for data and numbers, IMO – they’re also looking for pay dirt, nuggets and gems. Leave stuff they can use, and they’ll be back for more.
I tend to disagree that it’s dichotomous – that we are either a disrespected product or valued sources of information. IMO we are a valued product and potential source of valuable information.
As for AI, it’s trying to advise them and give its opinion, just like we are. Part of that seems scary, but IMO it’s actually reassuring.

So if we think something is true, I think posting it is almost always good. Then, we let the Trump administration deal with the liars, crooks and demons who hate the truth.

The attorney that I have been helping is being prosecuted by the Bar association for political reasons. One of the charges depends in large part on an improperly created WA Supreme Court order that I have decided was done by a clerk to try to cover up a previous clerk error.
Finding a way to prove it is the challenge. If proven, the WA Supreme Court and SCOTUS would share the same problem – out of control clerks.
We could call it The Autopen Problem.

i gotta wonder at what point is the judge ignored? to comply is to comply with something that is against long standing precedent and clearly set in laws. (declaring the President was wrong in declaring an invasion–that is OUTSIDE her lane. )
She doesn’t understand the U.S. Code. Immigration has its own procedures that are distinct from basic civil law. ICE doesn’t need a warrant because it is not enforcing criminal law – it’s enforcing immigration law.
But … but … but … Isn’t it a crime to be here illegally?
Yes but the purpose of ICE is not criminal prosecution in Article 3 courts. Its purpose is to evict trespassers. Since it doesn’t need a criminal conviction to do that, it doesn’t need a warrant or probable cause. It just needs to obey what’s in the immigration code.
This judge is incompetent. The average paralegal could do better.
Or anyone with a computer and the sense to LOOK UP THE ACTUAL LAW!

The constitution says nothing about SCOTUS justices needing law degrees. Congress created all the other courts and that is a requirement IIRC.
Which if you think about it makes perfect sense.
A Supreme Court judge need only know the Constitution inside and out. They should be able to look at any law and know instantly whether or not it violates the Constitution.
Other judges have to know all kinds of law to adjudicate cases.
Not to mention knowing how to make all kinds of political decisions. 😡

Resolved, That Amir Hatem Mahdy Ali, a judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and that the following article of impeachment be exhibited to the Senate:
Article of impeachment exhibited by the House of Representatives of the United States of America in the name of itself and of the people of the United States of America, against Amir Hatem Mahdy Ali, a judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, in maintenance and support of its impeachment against him for high crimes and misdemeanors.
ARTICLE I
Amir Hatem Mahdy Ali, a judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, engaged in a pattern of conduct that is incompatible with the trust and confidence placed in him as a Federal judge, as follows:
Judge Ali, in a 2024 written statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee, asserted that a “judge must decide issues based on an impartial and objective application of the law to the record before the court”. In issuing a temporary restraining order against the “pausing” of funds promulgated in Executive Order 14169, Judge Ali has without merit marginalized the President’s Article II authority, which vests the power to conduct foreign policy in the President of the United States, and has further compromised the President’s fiduciary obligation to review federal agencies and programs. This patent violation of Constitutional precedent—which necessarily precludes an explanation based on ignorance of the supreme law of the land—is entirely inconsistent with serving the United States as a district court judge.
Judge Ali, in mandating the immediate outlay of funds in contradiction of subsection (a) of Section 3 of Executive Order 14169, has done so in a manner that is arbitrary and capricious. The understood purpose of the President’s Executive order was to review such funds for consistency with United States foreign policy. By mandating immediate funding disbursement of funds paused by the President’s Executive order, Judge Ali did so with no consideration for the troubled history of foreign assistance through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). A March 2021 GAO report indicates that from FY2015 until FY2019, USAID did not consistently ensure that subawards provided for projects in the Gaza Strip and Judea and Samaria complied with regulations aimed at preventing financial support for terrorism. More recently, in November 2024, USAID was found to have financed hundreds of thousands of meals for al-Qaida affiliated fighters in Syria. While arguing that the Trump administration funding pause caused “irreparable harm”, Judge Ali failed to consider that his decision could easily inflict “irreparable harm” on Americans and American interests.
Accordingly, Judge Amir Hatem Mahdy Ali has engaged in conduct so utterly lacking in intellectual honesty and basic integrity that he is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors, is unfit to hold the office of Federal judge, and should be removed from office.

my daughter teaches 8th grade Social Studies. In the past 5 years, she has HAD to create tests in both English and Spanish–on her own time and at her expense ( she bought a software program for her home computer.)
she’s had a girl in her class insist she was a cat–wore a tail and everything–and had 2 boys in her classroom move their desks together so they could touch each other while she taught. She’s had larger “foreign” students scream at her in the halls.

As I was reading John’s words that you shared it reminded me of my son Josiah’s vision of Heaven during his Liver Transplant operation. He experienced being in the Presence of God in a powerful way that he spoke of in detail shortly afterward but has now largely forgotten, which is unusual for him as he has extreme recall of minutiae from years ago.
Anyway, in God’s Presence during his operation he said that God’s face was shining so brightly he couldn’t look at Him. He heard Him smile, which is what he always said back when he had recall of his experience. He also heard God’s voice telling him to not be afraid & that he would be “going home soon”. That last phrase was always rather disturbing to me for I didn’t know if it meant that Josiah would be returning to us or would be going to his heavenly home.
I like to think that C. S. Lewis well captured God’s view when he had the Lion Aslan, a type of Christ, say to Lucy in one of the Chronicles of Narnia “I call all times soon!”

The viral symptoms are mostly gone. It took a bit of work to right the ship. Congestion, gut trouble, and sludgy blood symptoms. Drinking hibiscus tea as a blood thinner worked surprisingly well. The most dramatic symptom was the sudden appearance of hives from neck to ankles. Likely MCAS, took a couple of weeks to calm. Super thankful to have the good info from here, and other sources, for ways to stabilize and manage.

Please pray for my little guy, Solas.
I was just starting to walk with him this evening when the vicious German Shepherd who lives next door CAME RUNNING ONTO MY DRIVEWAY, BIT SOLAS AND STARTED TRYING TO KILL HIM.
I fought the German Shepherd off, got Solas onto the front seat of my car in the carport, shut the car door—and that damned German Shepherd starting coming after me! I ran into my house and shut the kitchen door just as the dog was coming up to the door!
Thank God I was able to get Solas into the car to shut the car door. I called the Sheriff and Animal Control from inside my house. Then I got Solas quickly out of my car and into the house with me. I have videos of the German Shepherd on my property and trying to get into my house.
Animal Control came and looked at Solas. They confirmed puncture wounds on his back and possibly his tail. I have photos of the wounds on his back. I made a complaint report for a Vicious Animal. The Animal Control officer went next door to talk with the people there.
I took Solas to the local Emergency Vet hospital. They’re going to keep him overnight and do all kinds of blood tests and x-rays. I’m to get a call from the vet about Solas’ injuries and the test and x-rays results.
Solas was frightened. I’m shaken up and VERY pissed off. That damned German Shepherd tried to kill my dog. I’ll take the people next door to court if necessary.
I’m so sorry that happened. It has happened to me before while walking my small dog. A large dog that I didn’t know was anywhere near (and should have been under the control of its owner) came from behind and attacked my little one. Because my dog was wearing a halter, I was able to hoist him in the air to get him out of range of the big dog. At one point I was going in circles with him. My dog had puncture wounds and scratches and needed antibiotics but had no internal injuries, thankfully.
All it takes is for someone’s “good dog” to follow them out of the house as they get something out of their car, or some situation like that, and if one is walking by with a small dog, the fight is on. But some people just let their dogs run loose. It is concerning and maddening.

There was no provocation from my little guy. He and I were just starting an evening walk on my driveway and front yard.
This large, vicious German Shepherd started living on the property next door about a month ago. So far, I’ve noticed that this dog has already intimidated away some people who previously walked their dogs on the cart path of the golf course that abuts my backyard and the backyard of the property next door where he lives. This dog barks and menaces (trying to jump the gate on the back deck next door where he sometimes is kept, and so on) every time I’m outside or Solas is outside on my own property. I keep Solas under control when he’s outside in his own fenced-in dog yard, and on a harness + leash when I walk him. I also keep Solas quiet and taught him to obey the command, “No barking back, don’t respond” when the German Shepherd does the bark / menace thing.
I am not only shaken up, I am, shall we say, “Pizzed Off.”
I don’t blame you. My dog didn’t offer any provocation either. I hope you don’t have trouble with your neighbors. That can be a major headache.
It is likely that the owners of the dog are unaware that they may need to put down their dog. You either train it right, or you risk having it destroyed as a threat. Often dogs like these are “adopted” with behavioral problems.
A dog that threatens humans often has to be put down.
A lot of times, people will say a “lack of socialization” — but it is, in fact, induced overaggression. It is not natural.
That dog was lucky you weren’t armed. As for me, I’d have shot it.

A recently adopted dog in our neighborhood was off leash on one side of a grassy area when it spotted a fluffy little dog (on leash), broke into a run, grabbed the small dog by the harness and gave it the “break neck” shake. Which failed because it was the harness, not the scruff of the neck. (I think it thought it was a rabbit.)
The small dog’s owner kicked and fought until the other dog’s owner got close enough to clip on it’s leash.
The large dog’s owner was acting like it was no big deal. The small dog’s owner, who is generally a mild guy, said through gritted teeth, “if you dog ever comes near us again, I will kill it.” I think the large dog owner started getting training for her dog after that.
IMO any owner of a substantial dog needs to be ready, able, and unflinchingly willing to kill the dog in an instant, if it harms or is about to harm any person or other animal.
Sadly, people who buy “defense dogs” instead of guns, don’t have the gun they need to kill their “defense dog” when it goes on offense against other people.
You were in the kitchen when you went to get your dog out of your car. Do you have a chef’s knife?
I’m now going to respond with something that might look like I’m contradicting my earlier advice….
Herding dogs frequently nip — this includes collies, cattle dogs, shepherds, corgis, sheepdogs, and others. German Shepherds are famous for being “mouthy” — they don’t have hands, so anything your toddler might touch will end up in a German Shepherd’s mouth.
You generally don’t want to shoot or taser a dog for such behavior — although you may want to speak harshly, swat, buzz, or air-horn in the course of training the dog not to do this.
That said, puncture wounds are reserved for vermin or prey. If a dog sees other dogs, draft animals, or humans as such then shooting is entirely appropriate.
Guns for defense are even more of a responsibility than dogs for defense – so people need to have strong situational awareness about when or when not to draw.
Unfortunately, too many people are absolute idiots about their own dogs, and the potential of these domesticated wolves to cause incredible horror. Watching how stupidly they excuse vicious behavior with “well, I’ve never seen him act this way!” just makes me want to scream!
I think when a dog is locked up in a yard all day, their prey drive might go bonkers if they can see, but not reach, the target they are fixating on (your dog).
Not sure there is a good solution. You need to be ready to use lethal force, sadly.
And, as with any necessary use of lethal force, it is too likely that help is precious minutes or dire hours away. To be safest, one must be lethal oneself.
Yikes!!! What a horrific experience! I hope your dog ends up ok and that the neighbors act responsibly regarding their vicious dog.
Chihuahuas and Great Danes who know each other can play, and play rough, and never seriously injure each other. This is normal behavior for dogs, being pack animals. Puncture wounds, by contrast, show a dysfunctional and dangerous dog.

Just as a side note….
First, y’all probably know that I love dogs and dote upon them.
Second, dogs know an incredible amount about human beings. They can directly sense our pheromones and read our body language. They can understand language without knowing individual words — recognizing tones of anger, fear, soothing, or reward. They’ve lived in our camps, slept in our beds, and shared our food for hundreds of generations.
And that’s why it is easier to drive off a dog when you have the knowledge and mindset to maim or kill it. The dog can smell it and see it.
I’m not talking about swatting with a newspaper or kicking it in the side; I’m talking about dislocating or breaking its jaw, gouging its eyes, boxing its ears, or attacking its neck. I, myself, would feel awful afterwards if I did any of these things — but know how to do them if necessary. You can find out about relevant techniques from a variety of sources.
As one major caveat, this is with regard to attacking a single canid. Offense/defense against a pack is a very different proposition and is significantly more dangerous.
About 5 years ago we had a new neighbor with a German Shepard. Dog was out for some reason and viciously mauled their neighbor, an 85 year old woman. She took almost a year to heal.
There is a type of training for children where they teach them to “be a tree.”
I’ve seen a video of a woman dealing with an attack by getting on the roof of a car. It’s never easy.
The ear boxing idea is interesting, but how do you practice that before hand?
Most of this stuff cannot really be practiced without seriously injuring an animal — and ear boxing is the weakest of the techniques mentioned. The most important part of the exercise is to put yourself in a state of mind where the end game is a dead dog — not a dog driven-off or minimally harmed. If you box an ear, you’re moving toward breaking its neck on a curb or breaking its nose with your knee.
Furthermore, you want that drive to be felt throughout your body, so it shows up in your sweat. This is not something where you dress up in a gi and spar in a ring.
Exactly. Dogs need to know that you are an alpha level creature who is fully able and willing to kill any dog – and the best it can do is to be your beta and obey your command.
I know a big Samoan guy who does that well. He fosters rescue pit bull dogs and understands that failure means he will have to put the dog down. One time someone else’s semi-wild dog pack came at his dog in a park. He had two by the neck (one for each arm) and was kicking the third dog while hollering at the owners across the park who couldn’t be bothered to call off their dogs. It comes in handy to be a brawler in certain situations.

A number of years ago, in a Alaskan parking lot, a grandmother was pushing her grandson to the car in a stroller…..and a Polar Bear, the world’s largest land predator, decided the grandson could be a snack.
The grandmother attacked and killed the Polar Bear with her bare hands and improvised weapons (canned poutine gravy?).
Mind you, it probably helps to have Inuit ancestry for that sort of accomplishment, but there is a reason that humans are the boss species of this chunk of rock — and it has a lot to do with the ferocity of our grandmothers.

The stuff cooth is mentioning is details. The main issue — like the grandma and the polar bear — is the intention to kill an animal that is attacking you, another person, or your dog. If you have a tire iron in your hand, you shouldn’t set it down — but you most especially shouldn’t whack the dog once on the side and maybe bruise its rib and think, “there, that’ll teach you!” You want to hurt the dog, as much as possible, over and over, until its respiration stops and it stops twitching.

I saw very instructive video of a dog attack and the aftermath – basically the dogs breaking out of the house (in which they attacked the owner) and running in fear when other people came into the house and fought back against them.
The dogs were in literal FEAR. They weren’t attacking anybody. They were hiding. Complete change of behavior.
