Give Thanks . . . IN Everything
In a very practical section of Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians, he encourages his readers to give thanks in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:18). In the immediate context, he had exhorted them to rejoice always (verse 16) and to pray without ceasing (verse 17). These are recognizable characteristics of a person who is encouraged and growing in his or her faith. The first two are easy enough to understand – being joyful and prayerful are not complex ideas. But Paul’s instruction that the Thessalonian believers should give thanks in everything presents a unique challenge.
It is worth noting that Paul doesn’t tell them to give thanks for everything. The preposition used in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 is the Greek en, which is best translated by the English preposition in. Paul isn’t telling them they must be thankful for the difficulties they were encountering; instead, he is challenging them to be thankful in any circumstance. Paul recognized that the secret of contentment isn’t found in circumstances. Rather, there is contentment in recognizing it is Christ who strengthens us for whatever we might face (Philippians 4:11–13).
It is also evident that God allows things in our lives to help us grow to be more like Christ – in fact, that pursuit (Christlikeness) is the primary purpose God has for us in sanctification (being set apart or holy). If God works all things together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28) and that good is that we would be more like Christ (verse 29), then we can expect that He even uses hardship in our lives to help shape us to be more like Him. Because He works for that purpose in our lives, we can be filled with gratitude, knowing that there is purpose even in the difficulties we can’t understand.
In Romans 5:3 Paul uses even stronger language than he uses in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 – he explains that we can exult or rejoice even in suffering because of what the suffering produces in us. Suffering brings perseverance; perseverance develops proven or tested character; character that has been tested develops hope; and God’s kind of hope never disappoints. If God can use suffering and trials that way, to help us mature, then those experiences are worth it. Like Paul encourages the Corinthians, the momentary afflictions we encounter in this life are producing what he calls an “eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17). Paul adds that the sufferings we encounter today are nothing compared to the glory we will see in the future (Romans 8:18). In other words, it is all worth it.
If we have this kind of big-picture perspective, we can give thanks in everything because we understand how God is using those things in our lives to grow us now and in the future. Jesus illustrates the principle for His disciples in John 16:21: the pain of childbirth is exceedingly severe, and during labor it might not seem worth it at all. But when a mother holds her newborn, she is no longer considering the pain but only the joy that has been produced. In the same way, we can give thanks in all things, knowing that the difficulties, hardships, and sufferings are like the pains of labor, and that the outcome of proven character and certain hope is like holding the newborn baby. There is power in understanding what God has revealed about how He causes us to grow. His methods may be painful at times (see Hebrews 12:7–11), but the outcome is the peaceful fruit of righteousness. When our perspective is informed by His Word, giving thanks in everything makes perfect sense.

One big reason to give thanks to God during all our circumstances, no matter how bad they may seem, is that as fallible human beings of limited understanding, we don’t have and can’t have a realistic comprehension of the magnitude of the freedom and glory (not to mention the peace and joy) that will be ours as children of God.
Romans 8:18-21 (paraphrased) –
Our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the freedom and glory that will be revealed in us as the children of God.

Shoving €Billions at Ukraine to be destroyed and with massive non-European populations arriving to suck on the government teat, all while destroying their economic competitiveness by destruction of nuclear and coal plants, blowing up Russian low cost gas pipelines and making their energy infrastructure unreliable and VERY expensive; so all their industries become unreliable and too expensive to make sales, Also the political unrest in the streets AND their insistence on criminalizing “free speech” means a large part of the world can not visit Europe without fear of arrest (me among them); so goodbye tourism money….

Basically, Europe is not “investable” at all right now, IMHO. Debt too high and rising. Taxes too high, and also rising. Stupidity in command of the UK & EU governments. Italy talking about putting a “tax’ on private ownership of metals (gold, silver, etc.) and in Austria one must tell the government if they buy any gold…
Essentially the kleptocratic Political Class has realized they have run their economies into the ground, are about to run out of money, and are looking around for whom they can steal it from. Not a good time to be a profit making company, or an owner of any assets.
Japan just issued a $150 Billion notice of being a bit short of money and wondering who might give them more, being about 250% of GDP in debt already. This risks a complete unwind of the Yen Carry Trade as it depends on near zero interest rates, and those are rapidly leaving the arena… which could cause all sorts of global investments to need an “unwind” too. Bonds, real estate, stocks, you name it. Once owned via zero interest yen loans, about to be unprofitable with 3% yen rates…
China is having a demographic crisis. Between “one child” policies and a toxic (literally,,,) work environment, the size of the Chinese population is unknown. Perhaps as high as the claimed 1.4 Billion, but also perhaps as low as 500 million. Doing “OK” per the official numbers, but with a lot of unofficial “Ghost Cities” and a strong case of deflation / headed into recession.
Russia is doing fine. I’d say “despite sanctions” but in fact a lot is “because of sanctions”. Their major competitor of Europe has destroyed their economic competitiveness via sanctions. Russia is now FORCED to keep their investment money inside Russia, leading to a big boom in economic activity. So much so that their Central Bank is trying to damp down economic activity via higher interest rates than in The West. BUT those same sanctions make it impossible for folks in The West to invest in Russia…

So call it about 300 tons a year. At a little over 32 troy ounces per kg and about $4,000 per troy ounce, that’s about 4,000 x 32 x 300,000 = $38,400,000,000 per year or about $38 Billion. This goes to the Russian Central Bank as reserves (since they can’t sell it due to, muh, “sanctions”) where it gets added to “tier one reserves” and then the bank can issue Rubles against those reserves. Then, thanks to fractional reserve banking, that gets turned into a LOT more Rubles (exact number I do not know as I don’t know the Russian reserve ratio requirement), but call it a 20 to 1 expansion ratio, less than in the west, and you get about $760 Billion of bank deposits when that cycle unwinds, and since there’s about 1 Ruble per penny US, (really 1.3) and were up to about 76,000,000,000,000 rubles in the bank.
Guess what, Russia has to pay for its military adventures in Rubles not € £ or $US… so it doesn’t need to sell oil, just mine gold and put it in the bank… but removing that supply from the international trade markets does drive up the price of gold in The West… think about it…
So basically, with Africa and South America being minor investment places, that basically leaves the USA as the market to be in. (Yes, I have a little in Brazil and some in India, but they are still minor markets).
So… the $US is still “the best whore in the whore house”… but… I’ve done a LOT better with holding gold than holding $US. (Full disclosure: Today I bought a bit more gold, silver, and platinum).
What do I expect? Spit in one hand and expect at the other, then see which one gets wetter….
I expect the debt burden of The West to sink it, but slowly. I’m mostly hunkered down with zero debt, and my capital stock paid off (own cars & trucks clear, everything in the house paid off, no debt at all). My biggest worry is dollar inflation, but I have had that covered (and then some) with “hard assets”.
Mostly I expect Europe to be screwed for a few decades, China to continue to lie cheat and steal, and the USA to struggle with excessive debt. Not seeing a lot of real upside; so focused more on “not losing value” via owning real assets.
Of course, THE big issue is just “Will we have thermonuclear war?” (either with Russia or China)? But at least while Trump is in office, I think that will be off the table, So ask me in another 3 or 4 years…
I also expect that the BRICS+ “unwind” of the $US Reserves is going to put a LOT of downward pressure on the $US for a few more years. But that will likely be offset by the “Best Whore” effect. Yuan will likely rise as it takes on more of the BRICS+ trade, but not investable, so there’s that.
Australia & New Zealand will be kicked to the curb by China, so not a lot of opportunity there. Then Canada is busy imploding from internal political food fights… And everyone from Mexico to Indonesia is being Tariff Whipped… which doesn’t leave much. Maybe Argentina as it is on Trump’s Sugar Daddy List…
Mostly, things look to me like they are mostly bleak and getting worse. So I’m doing a kind of financial “Duck and cover”. Not totally out of markets, but ready to jump on any evidence the USA is tanking while hedged with some non-US funds in BRICS and a good position in gold & silver (that I’ve had for a year+ now).

I speculate that in the next three years we will see all fiat currency issuance returned to the Treasury and the birth of Gold Dollars. They will be issued in grams of gold held by the U.S. govt. I also speculate that a fixed formula of exchange will be established between [at least] the American Gold Dollar and the Russian Gold Ruble, with possibly a fixed gold price of a barrel of Sweet Crude.
By fixing a permanent exchange rate between America and Russia, war between them will be obsolete and unproductive. IMO.
Public transactions can still be done with fiat currency but gold-based exchange rate currency will operate as a parallel alternative.
Don’t beat me up too bad as I am old and haven’t got the details worked out. 😂

Chieflo is guessing on our debt situation. There is nothing to back that up that Trump has not already addressed with BBB and tariffs that will be solidified, potentially with another reconciliation bill Congress is mulling over now.
When we stop having annual deficits along with interest rates returning to non-manipulated levels (Fed control), which is well underway, our national debt service (treasury bond interest, etc) becomes a reducing percentage of the annual federal budget. With tighter budget controls (DOGE identified), over spending killed (reductions in Medicare/Medicaid, fed agencies/departments, RIF of employees, etc.); the debt reduction accelerates. The Treasury refinances higher rate bonds with lower rate bonds as well.

Corporate and other federal tax revenues grow exponentially from the $20+ T in investment into tech industry, energy and manufacturing. Tariffs replace personal income taxes. Working American citizens get a “raise” from Uncle Sam. Trump gives Americans a “dividend” next year for them to spike consumer spending before the midterms.
From these activities real estate will trend down in price as a percentage against rising income levels. The bottom feeders and market manipulators like Blackrock will take a hit for awhile since the retail economy is no longer based on commercial real estate. Blackstone buys residential real estate direct. They will also need to dump properties because the rents and resales will take a hit with a glut in inventory as the illegals are exited. That lowers prices and increases inventory. The investors behind those two will make bigger returns in the stock market and other investments. Them exiting even somewhat, reduces the buyer pool taking the pressure off prices. Changes the market dynamics.
All of this is why Trump believes he can eliminate the federal personal income tax and replace it with tariff revenues.
To us as little people – Have enough cash in the bank or CU to handle expenses for a year. Add in any “survival” money if everything tanks. Investments: stock market (mutual funds), land, precious metals (gold/silver), collectibles that have tradable value. Example: I know guys making a killing at buying, restoring and selling old cars. Even if they do no work themselves they use folks to do body and upholstery along with mechanics who have side hustles. They don’t get in a hurry, do the projects right. Go to large car shows, take offers. When the numbers are right, do the deal.

Does any-/everyone get that our country’s debt is owned, partially, and perhaps wholly, by the Roth’s? THAT is how they EARN the interest, as pay, to shoulder the USA’s massive debt, ~$37T or so.
I believe that their refusal to lower the interest rates (5% or so) demonstrated that their OWN INCOME is in jeopardy: 5% of $1.85T is a helluvan incentive to run against the financial well-being of our America!
Do the Q-Treepers realize that VSGPDJT *subsumed* the “Fed” into the US Treasury during his first term? AND, while initially bearing a small % of US ownership of the debt, the Roth’s soon after were liable for ALL of it, if need be, as PDJT – as CiC directing the Treasury – ordered.
The default of the USA Corporation’s debt will be all on the Roth’s. It will crush them! The ‘united States of America’ will have the financial and legal status again as our REPUBLIC, reversing 150+ years of legal / illegal trickery.

From what I’ve read, money (gold and silver especially) has been, and still is, FLEEING Europe. The traders believe that this means that Europe will be the BIG LOSER at the end.
Q said that America will be righted first; then Asia (I assume Russia and China, then others); and only then, Europe. By that time, I think that most of Europe will be irreparably damaged – ‘toast.’ I hope not … but one must face reality.
The “saving Israel for last” phrase is rather cryptic (on purpose, I think!): it could go either way.
I don’t hold ANY stocks (or ETFs etc.). I deem it too dangerous to take such risks in this environment – a sea-change is coming!

COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 147
The people of God are exhorted to praise him for his mercies and care. (1-11) For the salvation and prosperity of the church. (12-20)
1-11 Praising God is work that is its own wages. It is comely; it becomes us as reasonable creatures, much more as people in covenant with God. He gathers outcast sinners by his grace, and will bring them into his holy habitation. To those whom God heals with the consolations of his Spirit, he speaks peace, assures them their sins are pardoned. And for this, let others praise him also. Man’s knowledge is soon ended; but God’s knowledge is a dept that can never be fathomed. And while he telleth the number of the stars, he condescends to hear the broken-hearted sinner. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Yours Truly: The entire text of the memo that DR. VINAY PRASAD, MD, sent to the FDA’s CBER division is within the Brownstone article.
Here’s Yours Truly’s take on the situation:
ONE: Dr. Prasad admits, for the first time in “official” federal government terms, that the COVID-19 “vaccines” DO KILL PEOPLE. The admission in the CBER memo is related to CHILDREN being killed by myocarditis / pericarditis after taking COVID-19 “vaccines.”
TWO: Dr. Prasad admits that the number of children ACTUALLY killed by their taking COVID-19 “vaccines” is much higher than what was reported / is reported, to VAERS.
THREE: Dr. Prasad admits that the COVID-19 “vaccines” DO NOT PREVENT a COVID-19 infection.
FOUR: Dr. Prasad states that OTHER “vaccines”, such as the influenza “vaccines”, will now be minutely scrutinized as regards the “safety and efficacy” data that is submitted to the FDA by the “vaccine” manufacturers.
FIVE: Dr. Prasad admits that the FDA doesn’t know if the COVID-19 “vaccines” SAVED the lives of the children who took them.
SIX: Dr. Prasad ORDERS staff at FDA / CBER to STOP LEAKING information, memos, etc., to the media.
SEVEN: The FDA will re-think the giving of multiple “vaccines” at the same time.
EIGHT: CBER will now move in the direction of REQUIRING randomized clinical trials and data analysis for “most new products” before recommending them.
NINE: Immunogenicity will no longer be implied / inferred for the purpose of “expanding indicated populations.” Clinical trials and data analysis will be necessary.
**** In terms of the “new FDA” that was launched in May of this year — a “new FDA” that would be OK with using “data and efficacy results” from new “vaccines” created in Petri-dishes — it appears that Dr. Prasad has perhaps had a “Saul on the road to Tarsus” moment and realizes that the “new FDA” approach is a huge mistake. In this, he is in almost direct opposition to DR. MARTIN MAKARY, the Commissioner of the FDA.
The CBER memo by Dr. Prasad also means a couple of things:
ONE: That Dr. Anthony Fauci (NIAID) — Hugh Auchincloss (NIAID Acting Director) — Jeanne Marrazzo (NIAID Acting Director) — Dr. Francis Collins (NIH) — Dr. Peter Marks (CBER) — all in the “President Autopen” Biden administration —
HAVE BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS AS REGARDS THE DEATHS OF THESE CHILDREN.
TWO: The CBER memo by Dr. Vinay Prasad blows the door wide open to CASTING DOUBT on the ENTIRE REASON FOR COVID-19 “VACCINE” USE. Not withstanding Dr. Prasad’s parroting, in his CBER memo, of the lie that COVID-19 “vaccination” is beneficial for elderly people.
THREE: It is now IMPERATIVE that the Package Inserts for ALL COVID-19 “vaccines” in use in the United States (COMIRATY by Pfizer-BioNTech; SPIKEVAX by Moderna; and, NUVAXOVID by Novovax) MUST have ALL mentions that these “vaccines” are to “prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)” — which is on the Package Insert for these “vaccines” in the section 1 INDICATIONS AND USAGE — removed immediately; and replaced with language stating that these “vaccines” DO NOT prevent COVID-19 infection, and that they can cause serious side effects and/or adverse events.
Further: all COVID-19 “vaccines” Package Inserts MUST NOW HAVE a Black Box Warning regarding the fact that these “vaccines” can cause myocarditis / pericarditis, which can lead to death.
Good news on all those admissions. I love that he’s being very hardcore about clinical tests of actual risk/benefit.

I saw the greatest thing today, I just have to share.
I was at church and looking at our bulletin board for anything I might not know about coming up. In the “Youth” section, I found this card listing all the Bible studies that were available during lunch break or other times for all the schools in our valley. There must have been at least ten or twelve. All the high schools and middle schools were represented as far as I could tell, and teachers were the leaders of each study.
I can’t tell you how gratifying it is to see that. Jesus prevails in the schools in my little corner of the world. Thank you, God.

I had it in February and it was bad. Wifey caught it three weeks ago and it was awful for her. She’s still lacking stamina and has bad days occasionally. Daughter and one grandson caught it first.

The captain did not then attempt to raise the nose of the aircraft before the crash, the evidence reportedly shows.

They know which pilot said what, because the pilots don’t have the same voice, and anyone who knows the two men would be able to tell them who said what. They almost certainly have voice identification as well, and the data boxes should certainly say where each voice was coming from (left seat or right seat).
So they know exactly who said what.
But they won’t reveal it.

India is a signatory to the ICAO Convention, the crash involved a plane manufactured in the U.S., so the NTSB is entitled to be part of the investigation and have access to all evidence.
And then once the NTSB knows the cause of the crash, the NTSB is entitled to do the 3-monkeys routine.
All because there is no immediate summary execution for corruption.
Sure would be tough if Trump said “no more planes for y’all, unless we know everything about this case and it’s made public.”

So, in the category of random Linux tricks…..
I’ve been outfitting a media server and cramming DVDs onto a 6 terabyte drive. I’ve got that drive down to about 800G of free space and I keep loading 50G at a time, so I was looking into adding more space.
All the internal drive bays in the box have drives in them, so it’s natural to add an external drive — USB 3.2. I actually purchased a few 6T drives two years ago with the intent of using them on this project.
One of the headaches regarding external drives, however, is that they can get reassembled in a different way after being moved — and then all the links to your data get scrambled. You can fix this using a new feature on a very old part (goes back to UNIX) of the system.
The old part is fstab, which stands for File System Table. It tells your system how to consistently build the filesystem tree out of devices. To illustrate this, let’s say you have a block device (like a hard disk) running on SATA interface — this might show up in the devices directory as /dev/sda. A second physical device on the same interface might look like /dev/sdb. You might want the first to have all of your system, so you could tell it to link to “/”; while you might want the second to link to your personal files, so you’d link it to /home/cthulhu.
Which all sounds fine and groovy until you move to another room and plug the first drive into the second USB port and the second drive into the first.
Which brings us to the new part — you can specify the drive by UUID (sort of like a serial number) instead of by drive interface (which gets assigned on the fly) and still reliably assign it to its proper place in your filesystem tree. That way, you can take a tiny box with six USB 3.2 ports, take it apart, and reassemble it with the drives all switched around and they’ll automagically reassemble in the proper configuration.
The general format of a line in the fstab is “drive”, “where you want it”, “what fs is it”, “flags”, “dump flag”, “fsck flag”. The fields are separated by “whitespace” which can be a tab or a space. For the example above, one fstab line would be “/dev/sda / ext4 defaults 0 1” and the other would be “/dev/sdb /home/cthulhu ext4 defaults 0 1”. Note that I’m using a space as a delimiter instead of tabs.
So, for a non-exhaustive list of the difficulties inherent in implementing this….
You have to find the UUID. Running lsblk seems logical for this, but it doesn’t work. You want blkid. Further, if you don’t use sudo, you will only get information for permanently installed disk drives. If you do use sudo, you’ll need to figure out which of the 30 lines of output pertains to your circumstance. It might match something in /dev/disk/by-uuid….or not.
Once you have the UUID, you can build the fstab entry. First thing you will notice is that the columns will no longer line up — the UUID is much larger than the intended column width. Working or not will be more important that beauty and readability in this case.
The next bit of fun is that the UUID and where you want to put it might shove the last digit onto the next line, in which case both lines will be interpreted by the fstab system and will throw some errors. I used to have all my fstab entries separated with tabs…..but after this, I went to all spaces.
All in all, a bit of frustration and a lot of swearing and stress, but things are mostly happy now.
A straightforward application for this….
