In reading through the section VIII. PUBLISHED MANUSCRIPTS: in the Curriculum Vitae for Ralph S. Baric, PhD, of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, it appears that Dr. Baric’s research efforts began to shift away from the Sindbis virus that he was investigating early on in his career, to murine (mice), rabbits, and coronaviruses in general: for example, published manuscripts starting with number 11. Yours Truly turns to published manuscript number 11, dated 1986. By now in the research journey of Dr. Baric, it appears that he was starting to experiment with combining pieces of viruses, a process called “recombination.” Published manuscript number 11 [2] is the result of such experiments with mouse coronaviruses. At the time that this paper was published, Dr. Baric was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of Southern California Los Angeles School of Medicine. This occurred before he was hired by the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Yours Truly is aware that all the above may appear as a “long tale to tell.” However, the point is to “trace” how Dr. Baric used one particular NIH grant, AI 23946 (among many other NIH grants, to be sure) to help fund his research journey. Part One and Part Two discuss his experimenting with a mosquito-borne virus — to experiments with mouse hepatitis and mouse coronavirus proteins — to experiments with rabbit coronavirus proteins — to experiments of the recombination of mouse hepatitis and mouse coronavirus proteins — to experiments with inducing myocarditis and Congestive Heart Failure in rabbits injected with rabbit coronaviruses: experiments that, with the exception of the ones on the Sindbis virus, were funded, at least in part, by AI 23946.
Along the way of what may be called “the NIH grant AI 23946 aspect” of Dr. Baric’s research journey, one observes that the focus of work becomes more concentrated; the research and laboratory methods become more complex and sophisticated; and, the work on combining coronaviruses and how to create “new versions” of them is emphasized (in other words, Gain-of-Function research.)
It appears, in Yours Truly’s opinion, that what began as Dr. Baric’s research into a certain virus (the Sindbis virus) carried by a certain mosquito (his published manuscripts 1980 – 1984 [1]), had, certainly by the year 2009, evolved into something very different: a detailed study of, and development of, lab-application processes for coronavirus gene code combination, genome manipulation, and inducement of disease conditions — including heart issues and severe respiratory infection — from these combinations and manipulations.
Part Three will discuss NIH grant AI 23946 further, in addition to presenting other aspects of Dr. Baric’s research journey.

What really blows my mind is that it is even legal to do these kinds of experiments that make viruses more deadly. Aren’t we signatories on all kinds of treaties regarding biological warfare? So why are we allowing these morons to create these viruses? What possible use is this research other than to kill a lot of people?
I agree. I’ve seen some defenses of gain of function research, but none of them were convincing to me. IMO it needs to be stopped.
I haven’t looked into this at all, but I suspect the argument would be that the U.S. needs to be at the cutting edge of GoF technology, like every other technology, if for no other reason than to have some idea what to do and how to respond, when (not if) an adversary develops it and uses it as a weapon — if that hasn’t happened already.

I don’t know of any way for Pres. Trump to have Tina Peters transferred.
All he has to do is create a draft document that lays out a conspiracy to defraud the feds, in which Peters is the sole method of corroborating the scheme. It would have to name Venezuelan officials as conspirators. That way, interference with the election is an act of war for which the military is responsible to resist.
It makes Peters a material federal witness to the military tribunal which will try Maduro, similar to the way that Panama guy was deposed and arrested.

Do you think Pres. Trump has an ulterior motive for keeping Tina Peters in prison? Or that he’s being inept on this issue out of complacency? Do you think he just doesn’t care enough, and that’s why you’re so angry? Because from what I know of him, I believe he’s doing everything he can. We can come up with schemes, but they might not be feasible for reasons of which we’re not aware.

It doesn’t matter. Because a Gold Star mother is suffering in prison for doing the right thing, and she will probably die there. Collateral damage, casualty of war, whatever you want to call it.
I’ll tell you this. If I were in a position to do something like she did, I would certainly know that I was on my own, and if I couldn’t accept that my death in prison might be the result, I wouldn’t do it. And the whole world can see that for her efforts, nothing at all has changed. So was it worth it? I wonder what her family would say about that?

Brilliant as they might be, they also might not be possible for reasons that we don’t know. I’m willing to give Pres. Trump and all his attorneys and her attorneys the benefit of the doubt on that. They know a lot more about the law and how the system works than I do.
I don’t call it any of those things. It is a gross injustice. I’ve never seen Pres. Trump or anyone call Tina Peters collateral damage, and I’ve never seen any indication that that’s how they view her.
There is always the risk of being on one’s own. Yet, Tina Peters has had multiple attorneys trying multiple things to get her released and/or get better conditions for her, so she has not been entirely on her own. It’s just that nothing that has been tried so far has worked.
Again, it comes down to (uninformed) opinions: You seem sure that Pres. Trump could be doing more. Until I know everything he is trying, everything he has instructed his people to do, and everything he has to consider (which will be never), I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I think there have been a lot of changes regarding elections and voting, but not regarding her particular situation, which is deplorable. I don’t know if she thinks it was worth it or what her family might think. No doubt they know a lot more about the legal efforts to get justice for her than we do. If they don’t think it was worth it, I wouldn’t blame them.
And yes, people might look at this and decide not to risk it. That’s the reality of, and the fault of, the justice system and some of the biased, heartless people that are in positions of power within it. You might blame Pres. Trump for that, but I do not.
Do states still use Dominion systems? Yes. Are voting machines still accessible by the internet? Yes. She proved the voting machines were tampered with. Has that changed anything? No.
You always give President Trump the benefit of the doubt. Always. I did for a long time, but I finally realized he’s just a person. A human like any other, and he makes errors, big ones, like anyone else. So always giving him the “benefit” of thinking he isn’t just making an error is foolish to me. He’s not superhuman. And this is a big error that could cost him a lot.
Public awareness has changed. That’s certainly not enough, but it has led to some changes within counties and states. I read that one county was using only paper ballots, and there are probably others. None of that is nearly enough, but it’s not “nothing.” I know there have been other changes.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt doesn’t mean I think he is perfect and incapable of making errors. It means I think his motives are pure, that he is a compassionate and caring person, and that he loves this country and is a patriot and that he is making every effort to do the right thing in every case, including Tina Peters’.
We have a difference of opinion on this, not regarding errors; of course he can, and does, make errors. But you are sure that he has made an error regarding Tina Peters, yet that specific error can’t be named because we don’t know enough to name it. Some people think they know, but they don’t.
I’m coming from the perspective of watching people all over the internet, who assume they know what’s going on, trash people who are doing their best. Are those people perfect? Of course not. Are some (or a lot) of those complainers paid trolls or influencers or bots? Without doubt. To allow them to pull down and divide this movement is to invite defeat, and I’m thoroughly tired of it. I don’t agree with their taking potshots at people when they have no idea what their jobs entail, what they are planning and dealing with behind the scenes, what they are actually doing, and the obstacles that are placed in their way. And almost no credit is given when good things are accomplished. It’s a defeatist attitude.
If there are things that people think should be done regarding Tina Peters, then trying to communicate those with the administration would be optimal. Anyone who has social media that Trump people could see, or could reply to someone where their views could be seen, or could write to the White House on the comment section, or could contact one of the few trustworthy people in Congress, etc., is welcome to do it.
IMO the pardon is a requisite move to win. I think some smart lawyer (possibly Stephen Miller) advised doing that step.
Having any chance that SCOTUS send Tina back to Colorado prison needs to be taken off the table before Trump acts.

Colorado – IMO – was working with the Biden/Obama/Harris FBI while desperately hiding federal involvement (typical) to make sure that Tina was maximally under leftist control. Tina proved that Dominion was not only violating state and federal laws with their “proper” and “approved” methodology – they were hiding it from most if not all election officials.
I strongly suspect that “taking over voting domestically” is part of some secret bureaucratic Obama initiative to “save the world from climate change” or some other such nonsense. That would be how the left handed themselves the power to control our elections.

The apostle exhorts the Philippians to stand fast in the Lord. (1) Gives directions to some, and to all in general. (2-9) Expresses contentment in every condition of life. (10-19) He concludes with prayer to God the Father, and his usual blessing. (20-23)
1 The believing hope and prospect of eternal life, should make us steady and constant in our Christian course. There is difference of gifts and graces, yet, being renewed by the same Spirit, we are brethren. To stand fast in the Lord, is to stand fast in his strength, and by his grace.
10-19 It is a good work to succour and help a good minister in trouble. The nature of true Christian sympathy, is not only to feel concern for our friends in their troubles, but to do what we can to help them. They finally acknowledge that we’ve been discriminated against my whole lifetime, and they’re actually doing something about it.
But that doesn’t correct the wrong that has been going on for the last 50+ years.
So who do we see about reparations for this racial injustice and discrimination?
