My bad. Thursday, while recollecting, run ins with snakes, over the years.
I erroneously posted ~20′ snake, a couple doors down and behind our housing unit, Easy Street, Binictican, Subic Bay, Philippines.
Went searching for a picture.
Likely it was this snake.
- This is a 17-foot long, 175-pound reticulated python. Found in the back yard of Binictican Navy Housing at Naval Station Subic Bay in 1986. This snake was cooked and served at JEST (Jungle Environment Survival Training School) to the staff and family members at a division picnic. When it was cut open, there was a wild pig inside, its last meal.
The snake was caught 1981/82. Above “1986” was either another snake caught at essentially the same location. Most unlikely. More likely, 1986 the year the snake was BBQ’d, at a Division gaggle of sorts. I do know the snake was fed baby monkey’s periodically. But, Only when he was hungry.
DW face lit up when I showed her the above picture. She recollected when it was caught a few doors down, from our housing unit. Talk of the neighborhood that day.
Enough reminiscing, correcting the record AND mostly wanted to share, what I figure is a really cool snake story.

Is It ‘America Alone’ In The Fight To Save The West From China And Islam?
The signs were obvious two decades ago, and the insightful Mark Steyn—the conservative Canadian author—addressed them then. In numerous books, written in his sharp, convincing style, he warned that America would soon become isolated in its fight against Islamist jihad. Today, that loneliness appears to be fully realized.
His 2006 book America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It, convincingly argued that much of the Western world would not survive the 21st century. Europe, with its declining birthrate, would be the first to go—thanks to white people being “too self-absorbed to breed,” while Muslims worked to change the demographics in their favor.
It also predicted that Europe would be defeated by its obsession with multiculturalism—essentially a surrender to Islam—and its welfare-driven laziness. Only America, dedicated to individual effort, morals, and economic growth, would be able to resist the onslaught of civilizational jihad.
Just five years later, in After America: Get Ready for Armageddon, Steyn lamented that America was also in serious danger of joining the rest of the Western world in an unavoidable decline. He observed that the growth of government, rising debt, the focus on diversity over excellence, and cultural shifts—away from individualism and self-reliance toward state handouts—were hollowing out America.
Fifteen years later, not only is the mood in Europe and the U.S. against America, but our neighbors, Canada and Mexico, too, are hesitant to join us in confronting a three-pronged threat: Islamists, the unchecked Trojan horse tactics of communist China, and the drug and smuggling cartels at our borders. Canada has fallen under the influence of both Islam and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), while powerful criminal cartels aligned with China have a firm grip on Mexico.

Europe, as Steyn observed, has become unrecognizable. The influence of so-called liberalism, far from transforming all nations into Sweden and eradicating war, has altered the very character and demographics of the continent. Ask a Jew in Malmo, Steyn writes, if you can find one! The same story is unfolding in Britain.
Commenting in The New York Post, Melanie Phillips states that Britain’s response to the issue of Muslims being smuggled into the country and their involvement in terrorism, espionage, and arms smuggling has been “craven.” Muslims refuse to integrate into British society, and the government has gone out of its way to accommodate them, allowing them 85 sharia courts so far.
Instead of addressing this security crisis, Prime Minister Kier Starmer’s government suppresses criticism of Islam by raising the false idea of Islamophobia. Tommy Robinson, who the previous government jailed for criticizing Islam, mass Muslim immigration, and Muslim rape gangs, still faces danger and is labeled an extreme right-winger. Similarly, in a serious violation of free speech, political candidate Paul Weston was charged in 2014 with a racially aggravated crime for quoting an excerpt critical of Islam from Churchill’s The River War.
For decades, Muslim gangs have been grooming and assaulting underage girls, but Starmer has been hesitant to investigate and prosecute them. He also ignores widespread antisemitism among Muslims. In 2024, a Jewish man was prevented from crossing a street under threat of arrest for being openly Jewish and thereby “antagonizing” pro-Palestine marchers. Britain’s recognition of Palestine following the October 7 massacre by Hamas signals Starmer’s capitulation to Islam.
Starmer’s interactions with China symbolize Britain’s waning influence and capitulation to the CCP. During his trip to Beijing, the prime minister was not met with the usual protocols. CCP leader Xi Jinping gave Starmer a brief, informal meeting and spoke to him as if he were subordinate.
Starmer failed to press Xi on several key issues: human rights, especially the detention of activist Jimmy Lai; cyberattacks on British companies; covert Chinese interference in the UK government; and trade deficits. He approved China’s plan to build a massive embassy near critical fiber-optic cables and sensitive U.S. infrastructure, a move that could threaten intelligence partnerships with the U.S.
To our north, Canada has increased the risk by entering a new “strategic partnership” with China, shifting Canada’s economy away from its long-standing reliance on America. During his visit to Beijing, Prime Minister Mark Carney avoided discussing Jimmy Lai’s incarceration, the execution of seven Canadians in China on drug charges (which is ironic since China is a major exporter of fentanyl precursors to North America), and interference in Canadian elections.
Carney returned with agreements on cooperation against drug trafficking and cybercrime, along with a pledge to increase cultural exchanges. Given how China operates, security experts have no doubts about what ‘cooperation’ and ‘cultural exchanges’ will actually entail. Additionally, it is hard to understand how a liberal government has reconciled with an authoritarian regime.
At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Carney expressed excitement about recalibrating Canada’s relationship with China: he stated that Canada had aligned itself with the “new world order,” would pursue global governance, and move away from the U.S., its largest trading partner. He urged other countries to do the same.
According to a 2025 report by the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy (ISGAP), Muslim Brotherhood organizations have infiltrated Canada’s civil, academic, political, and economic sectors. They promote radical Islamist ideology using federal funding.
The report provides strong evidence that Canada has become a hub for money laundering and a gateway for terrorists entering the U.S. But instead of designating these groups as terrorist organizations, Carney was a guest at a recent Eid celebration hosted by the Brotherhood-linked Muslim Association of Canada.
Unchecked immigration, wokeism, the romance with multiculturalism, and a fragile national identity have allowed not only the Brotherhood but also networks connected to China, Russia, Iran, and Qatar to entrench themselves in Canada. Collectively, they pose a serious security threat to the U.S.
A recent seizure of carfentanil—originally developed to tranquilize elephants—revealed that the U.S. now faces a dangerous flow of synthetic drugs across its southern and northern borders. The drug was being smuggled into the country by a Montreal-based cartel.
China is the primary source of raw materials and equipment for drug production, including fentanyl. Therefore, there is reason to suspect a Chinese connection, similar to Mexico, where Chinese gangs have established themselves on the drug scene. These gangs, it goes without saying, cannot operate without the CCP’s approval.
The Bureau’s report on the carfentanil seizures quotes former DEA chief Derek Maltz: “We are getting crushed with carfentanil, xylazine, etizolam, isotonitazene—all those new psychoactive substances which are coming out of China. So, it’s just another phase of the attack.”
In 2023, there were over 72,000 drug-related deaths, mostly caused by illicit fentanyl brought into the U.S. from Mexico by sophisticated cartels, armed with RPGs and exploding drones, and collaborating with China. Chinese gangs have extensive networks in Mexico’s drug hubs, laundering money through cryptocurrencies and digital payment platforms.
Mexican governments have long collaborated with the cartels, which are viewed as sources of profit and power. However, President Donald Trump has pressured the current Mexican government to combat the cartels. The recent killing of Jalisco cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes—‘El Mencho’—in a joint U.S.-Mexico operation highlights Trump’s dedication to securing the border and stopping trafficking.
If America is to stand alone in the asymmetric war launched by China and the Islamists, we need strong leadership to exert pressure and defend our borders. On a civilizational level, however, we are lost unless the West unites. Steyn opened the first chapter of America Alone with a chilling quote from historian
Arnold Toynbee:

Wifey is big on sirloins as well. If a porterhouse, filet, ribeye, and a plain sirloin were sitting in front of her she would choose the sirloin every time even if it was not NY strip.
There are very few foods I do not like. Just a handful of the more exotic.
Top sirloin is my steak of choice, too. Unless, of course, there’s a filet mignon on the menu, and I feel like dropping $50 on a steak. Which rarely happens.
Filet is king in my book, but I will happily consume the others without complaint. Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn have decent 6 oz filets at $25 give or take around here. BJ’s will sell large tenderloin cuts at discount from time to time as well to do some good cuts to grill and freeze at home.
Rib-eye medium rare.
Other wise a chuck steak or chuck roast.
We cook a chuck roast for me & meat loaf for Hubby at the same time, Then left overs for lunch/dinner for a few days.
Chicken & pork too. and Salmon salads 2 to 3 times a week.
Not to mention Green Eggs And Ham 😀

I have a friend who up until a few years ago had a sheep ranch. Every year, she would ask around for volunteers to feed the bottle-babies. It was fun.
Even a ewe with twins will abandon one of them most of the time. A ewe will abandon a funny-looking (wrong color, whatever) lamb. Sheep are weird.
Very weird. Take a kid a way from a goat and she remembers it the next day. (Very useful when you grab the kids and bring them in the house when you get a nasty freezing storm forecast for over night.)
Remove a lamb from a sheep and you got yourself a bottle lamb.
That’s brutal for the maternal abandonment angle. Maybe they’re only equipped to raise one baby at a time (wimps, as a mom of twins here 😉 😉 ) so if they attempted to raise two neither one would survive 🙁 If you are bottle feeding a lamb do you have to snuggle it close or just hold the bottle at an angle that might minimize their air intake?
To start them, I would get down on all 4s, tuck the lamb under me, raise its head and insert nipple. (4 hands would be VERY helpful😋)
Once they figure out the nipple = food, you just hold the bottle. UP!
It is VERY IMPORTANT to have the head tilled up, like they would be under the ewe. That plus the shadow is important to get the sucking reflex.
Colostrum within the first 24 hours is also very important. So grabbing the ewes when she has lambed and stealing a bit of colostrum to freeze was one of my standard ops. You can use Goat colostrum too.
Also there is now powdered colostrum available.

I pointed this out months ago. The SPR has been getting refilled at a pace that has not overly affected market prices. Instead of a rapid fall in price, they have trended down. By the fourth quarter it should be closer to natural market levels.
The refill will accelerate at below market costs due to Venezuela.

The first was when Carter was President. There was just this feeling back then that everything was wrong. And somehow, nobody knew how to fix it. They talked a lot, but nothing good ever happened.
Then Biden. Everything was wrong again. The election was wrong, but nobody could pinpoint how to fix it. The courts wouldn’t. Our stance in the Middle East was wrong, but nothing could apparently be done. Covid and the clot shots were wrong, but people were so depressed they didn’t fight back. Big Pharma just poisoned 75% of Americans.
Even the Obama years didn’t have the seemingly endless torpor and lassitude that characterized those two periods of time.
Thank God we got Trump, who is pulling us out of that zeitgeist. Just like Reagan did after Carter. THANK GOD.

BREAKING: GOP Rep. Nancy Mace Plans to Investigate Outgoing DHS Secretary Kristi Noem: ‘We Need to Hold Our Own Accountable’
My question is what would be accomplished by such an investigation. Pres, Trump has handled it, so why belabor it? I agree that a $200 million ad campaign was a terrible idea and was self-promoting as well as a waste of money, but dragging this out will only cast negative shade on the Trump administration.
Yesterday’s Coffee and COVID spun the Noem firing to say she actually got a promotion that had been planned. I don’t think so. I think it was as Sen. Kennedy said: that Pres. Trump was furious that Noem told the committee he approved the ad campaign. (People don’t like being misquoted, they don’t like being lied about, and they don’t like being lied to.) I think that, because Noem has done an effective job, Pres, Trump didn’t want to fire her outright. I also think that giving her a different position minimizes the gravity of the situation for his administration. So IMO the last thing we need is a Congressional investigation. I think there are better uses for Congress’ time.

Agreed with your assessment. IMO this is more of Mace’s talent for self-promotion, especially in light of her run for governor, where seeming somewhat critical of Trump and his administration, without actually betraying Trump, always seems to work for her.

No doubt, President Trump will be getting ready to revoke the federal “state charters” that were conditionally issued to each blue state / cities on the day the states applied for entry into the United States of America …… be it in the 1700, 1800 or 1900s.
The blue states are not independent entities …… they operate under the state charters issued to them by the Federal government, aka “we the people.” We gave them their charters, we can take them away ………… for cause.
Revoking the charters requires the appointment of a temporary custodian government that will proceed to eliminate the sanctuary cities and implement Constitutional compliant election rules and procedures.

Iran could be hours away from installing a new supreme leader, with state Fars News reporting early Saturday that a successor may be selected within the next 24 hours, but there are signs of a potential factional power struggle – somewhat expected given the complex history of reform vs. hardline Islamic interpretations inside Iran.

Mary Nolan, a 71-year-old Oregon Democrat on the Metro Council, has been dialing into council meetings from Spain for more than a year while collecting a $68,000 annual salary funded by taxpayers.
Records obtained by The Oregonian reveal that Nolan attended Metro Council meetings remotely in 2025 between March and June, July and September, November and January, and again since Feb. 5.
That is not a sabbatical. That is not a brief family visit. That is the better part of a year spent in another country while drawing a public paycheck from residents of a metro area Nolan reportedly does not live in. The Story Breaks
According to The Daily Caller, Nolan first came under scrutiny after a Feb. 24 Metro Council meeting that featured a verbal altercation with councilor Juan Carlos González, the council’s first Latino councilor. During the exchange, Nolan asked González, “Can you say that in English?” The details of what González said that prompted the remark were not provided in available reporting, but the incident drew enough attention to put Nolan’s work habits under a microscope.
What that microscope revealed was far more interesting than a rude comment in a meeting. The Oregonian dug into records and found a pattern of remote attendance stretching back over a year, with Nolan connecting from Spain across multiple extended windows. When confronted, Nolan told The Oregonian on Tuesday that trips to Spain were “to visit my family occasionally” and occurred “when someone in my family needs help.”
“Occasionally” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence. The documented stretches of remote attendance span the majority of 2025. Nolan is no newcomer to Oregon politics. She previously served as the Oregon House of Representatives majority leader, was first elected to the Metro Council in 2020, and won re-election in 2024. Her career also includes a near-appointment to a top position at Planned Parenthood’s Columbia Willamette chapter, and she was hired by Medicare and Medicaid healthcare provider FamilyCare in Portland.
This is someone who has spent decades inside the machinery of government and progressive institutions. And yet the basic expectation of physically showing up to work in the jurisdiction she represents apparently proved too demanding.
Voters re-elected Nolan in 2024. It is worth asking what they thought they were getting. A representative who lives among them, understands local conditions firsthand, and is present for the unglamorous daily work of regional governance? Or someone who participates in council meetings the way the rest of us attend webinars we’d rather skip? The Deeper Problem
This story is small in dollar terms. Sixty-eight thousand dollars is not a massive government salary. But the principle it represents is enormous.
The COVID-era normalization of remote work gave elected officials and government employees a permanent escape hatch from accountability. When you can attend a meeting from anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection, the physical tether to your constituents disappears. And with it goes something harder to quantify: the obligation to actually be present in the community you govern.
Nolan uses “they/them” pronouns, which the coverage dutifully notes. That detail is less interesting than the substance of the story, but it does fit a pattern. The same political class that insists on precise language, correct terminology, and rigid adherence to new social norms cannot seem to manage the far older and simpler norm of showing up to work in the place that pays you.
The priorities reveal themselves. Policing language is treated as essential governance. Being physically present in your district is treated as optional. What Accountability Looks Like
There is no indication from the available reporting that any formal action has been taken against Nolan or that the Metro Council has moved to address the situation. No government action, no charges, no policy review has been cited.
That silence matters. If a private-sector employee spent the better part of a year working from a foreign country without clear authorization, they would not be asked to explain themselves to a newspaper. They would be asked to clean out their desk.
The residents of the Portland metro area are reportedly paying $68,000 every year to someone who reportedly does not live among them. The Metro Council now faces a straightforward question: does physical presence in the region matter for the people who govern it, or is representation just another task that can be outsourced overseas?
The answer should be obvious. Whether the Metro Council treats it that way is another matter entirely.

When my youngest son was in College I visited him in his apartment he made me sleep in a room where he had 4 snakes in an aquarium. The whole night I did hear them slither in the aquarium. He brought them home in the summer one got out I found the snake wrapped around a picture frame in his room. That was not the worse I opened the freezer to find snake food mice.
