Those are the lyrics of a uniquely American folk spiritual in the public domain dating back to pre-Civil War days. These particular lyrics are from one of many versions of the same song. It is one of many songs from the era of which there is no known songwriter credited. A version of these lyrics were published along with many others from the period in The Christian Songster in 1858. These songs were sung at camps, prayer meetings, social gatherings and revivals. Perhaps you know or have heard some of them.

When you review them they have common themes that center around the belief that this earth is not our home. The songs are filled with both joy and great sorrow. A strong theme of hope for better times and reunions with loved ones abound throughout. And of course, they speak to the Savior of all mankind, Jesus Christ, as well as the adversity of Satan. Below is one of my favorite versions that match the lyrics above. It is hauntingly beautiful to go with the war imagery.
The Historical Period
Since these songs were originated in America and primarily composed in the lead up to the Civil War, the themes would reflect the attitudes and beliefs of common Americans during the period. The songs pull back the curtain on what people thought, believed and experienced. It appears the commie leftists have not yet found a way to hide these truths.
With our nation being founded under God’s Providence by a vast majority of Christians in its growing population, we can gain understanding of how the two centuries evolved from the pilgrims arrival in the words of these and other songs of the period. What we discover is they are remarkably consistent with those colonial predecessors.
Perhaps they knew what was about to come to this great land as the drumbeat of the impending Civil War became louder. Wars, violence and hardship of some sort always seemed to be present anyway. They also knew they would be the ones called upon to fight those wars and suffer the great losses that were to come. They longed for a better future and many saw that as only happening when they went to their eternal “home”.
So let’s move this along with some quality versions of the song. Pick and choose your flavor, or all of them when you get time.

For the hillbilly bluegrass fans comes this performance of the song from the Father of Bluegrass during his latter days on earth.
Emmylou brings her wonderful style,
A quality country sound, a more recent version with some lyrics modification from Travis.
Yet, the song is timeless and travels across the pond as Ed Sheeran demonstrates in his own unique style…
Conclusion
Our American heritage offers strong clues of who we have been and are destined to be. We just need to pay attention and look for the evidence. Today we found evidence in an American folk spiritual song from two centuries ago. What we learn from it and others from the period is that four centuries have come and gone since the Pilgrims arrival and we have been searching for peace that America gives us the opportunity to find… as long as we continue to fight for her and each other.
Meanwhile, Christians know this world is not our home, that we are Wayfaring Strangers. Through Christ we have a heavenly passport to our eternal home. We are just passing through doing God’s will while here. There is no place like home when we are born again citizens of God’s Heaven.

Plywood cost is far above their paygrade, especially three quarters.
Everything under plywood goes bad very fast with rain unless painted, including OSB.
For outdoor use it has to be pressure treated. And that costs the earth!
One thing that can be used (if available) is plywood that has been used as concrete forms. Usually they’re used until worn out, but maybe some is available somewhere (five-finger-discount, figuring it’s Oakland)…
Any kind of particle board will disintegrate quickly, as compared to plywood. OTOH, it doesn’t rain THAT much in the Bay Area, and practically never snows… and even then, only a millimeter or two.
In the hills, it’s another story. That looks like right by the Macarthur freeway, which used to be (60 years ago) a decent area… sigh…..
When you make housing completely unaffordable, people get creative.
In my neighborhood, just driving around, I see many motor homes and travel trailers parked in the alleys and driveways being used as residences. There’s an old school bus behind one house that someone lives in. There are many little cottages like mine, that used to be the garage or outbuilding for the house in front.

If any of that forecast is likely, i.e. that insurers will not insure marine properties passing thru Hormuz, then I would expect governments to indemnify shipping. Lloyds would lose not only its business model but its monopoly. I suspect they would be disinclined to do that.

I would think any government that depends on the oil that transits Hormuz would be a likely candidate. As to trust, businesses don’t trust, they sign contracts with specific terms. If a certain government reneges, that information will pass around the business community at the speed of the internet. What follows would be one of two things: 1) Rewritten contract terms will punish that government, or 2) They will get no oil.

COMMENTARY FOR PSALMS 16:8
This psalm begins with expressions of devotion, which may be applied to Christ; but ends with such confidence of a resurrection, as must be applied to Christ, and to him only.
– David flees to God’s protection, with cheerful, believing confidence. Those who have avowed that the Lord is their Lord, should often put themselves in mind of what they have done, take the comfort of it, and live up to it. He devotes himself to the honour of God, in the service of the saints. Saints on earth we must be, or we shall never be saints in heaven. Those renewed by the grace of God, and devoted to the glory of God, are saints on earth. The saints in the earth are excellent ones, yet some of them so poor, that they needed to have David’s goodness extended to them. David declares his resolution to have no fellowship with the works of darkness; he repeats the solemn choice he had made of God for his portion and happiness, takes to himself the comfort of the choice, and gives God the glory of it. This is the language of a devout and pious soul. Most take the world for their chief good, and place their happiness in the enjoyments of it; but how poor soever my condition is in this world, let me have the love and favour of God, and be accepted of him; let me have a title by promise to life and happiness in the future state; and I have enough. And if our eyes are ever toward God, our hearts and tongues may ever rejoice in him. Death destroys the hope of man, but not the hope of a real Christian. Christ’s resurrection is an earnest of the believer’s resurrection. In this world sorrow is our lot, but in heaven there is joy, a fulness of joy; our pleasures here are for a moment, but those at God’s right hand are pleasures for evermore. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

What is interesting is goats much prefer brambles, shrubs, roses blackberry briars…. to grass. They would rather leave the grass for the, horses, cows and sheep.
Also the worms that infest goats (and sheep) generally do not bother horses or cows. SO if you do correct pasture management, run your horses, then cows, then goats on your pasture and you lessen the worm burden.
Unfortunately you still have to deal with the fact goats are escape artists.

We are overrun with Himalayan blackberries here in western WA state. Everybody I’ve asked has said that goats will not eat the stalks [the part with thorns].
Now that this article has shown up, there is a direct conflict of opinions.
What to do?
Blackberries, raspberries, and derivatives such as Marionberries and Boysenberries, run on a two-year cycle. The first year, the canes grow like crazy, and the second year the grown canes throw off berries. After all the berries are harvested for a year, the 2nd year canes for that year should be cut to the ground so that all the plants’ energy goes into fruiting the alternate years’ canes next year.
I don’t believe that goats can be trained to know the difference, so you’re probably on your own pruning your bramble.
Depends on wether you want the berries or not.
Eradicating a berry bramble is right up there with eliminating bamboo. Be prepared for years of work.

Most raspberries and blackberries are floricane, which you describe.
Some, though are primocane. They bear fruit on the current year’s growth:

Up north I had the primocane ‘everbearing’ rasoberries. I tried to get them down here and was told I was too far south… DARN IT!

The percentage of Muslims MUST be kept below a certain level to have a free society. That is simple, unbreakable reality. At one level, Muslims begin forming separatist enclaves. At another level, they begin violent sedition, civil war, and takeover of government. Lebanon is the great example.
Therefore, a nation of non-Muslims must take actions to prevent the population from getting to the social destruction point.
Once Muslims take over, there is only one way back to freedom for everybody else. RECONQUISTA. Drive them out. They have to have their own countries – and YOURS is not one of them. Make them go back.
There is one good thing. When the population of Muslims is low enough, and dispersed enough, their level of lying and dishonesty against non-Muslims tends to be lower and more “tolerable”. Put simply, they act better – more like everybody else, because they model from the surrounding society, and not the Koran and the radicals.
This is why the “fissionable radioactive model” of Muslims works so well. Muslims below a certain level can be moderated by society, although Somalis are significantly more radioactive than most.

This one’s a biggy TT. I’m praying that Ken Paxton pulls out a win or second best, there’s a special run-off in May between the two of them. I’d be happy with either result. Anything to have a chance to get Cornyn out of the Senate.
Gateway Pundit is now saying there will be a runoff. That will eliminate any other candidates that might have diluted the vote.

(feeling old now as I am looking for that post and realizing how long ago that first election was … that primary fight for President Trump and even before that, as many of us watched live June 2015
Interesting, a probably y’all already know … old comments for back in the day at the treehouse are closed and unable to browse. Petty and not focused on the big picture prize. That infighting weakened us, weakened the grassroots, at the very time we needed to be strong. frustrating and disappointing, especially when one considers how his website started.
And yet many of us who learned there have gone on to accomplish (at least try) good things and make an impact. oh well.

I have had Some success using the Wayback Machine at Archive.org in searching for some older CTH stuff, fwiw.
I agree about the weakening by the ban hammer over at CTH. The flourishing of a number of sister blogs is at least a positive outcome of that pettiness, imo. God is Good!
