A little over seven years ago, when I started reading TCTH, one of the things I liked about the blog was sort of a personal feel at the site.
Posters “knew” each other and mentioned small, off-topic personal events like an upcoming trip, something that happened at work, or that weekend, and also gave “good morning” greetings, shared coffee and, of course, bacon with eggs or pancakes for breakfast. (Where is WeeWeed and Zurich Mike?)
As TCTH grew, that personal, homey element diminished to a large extent, although some remains on the open thread.
Well, QTree has brought that nice “member of the family”, homey feeling back . . . and I like it. Not just as might pertain to me, but lurking and “listening” to others’ conversations.
I also wanted to say that when I mentioned some people I remembered from TCTH, I just had had a quick look at QTree. So I would like to add nikkichico7, redlegsleader, grandmaintexas, steveinCO, thinkthinkthink, cthulhu and ForGodandCountry to the list of remembrances. I’m sure there are more.
A special recognition to flep / Felice for his news roundup work on QTree.
And to FG&C who puts together those great intro’s.
Anyway, I remain very glad to be here!

Bakocarl, I love that friendly aspect here, too. I really cherish it. As much as it is possible in an artificial digital world, we can get to know people a little bit. A sense of people’s personalities. To me, that adds a lot to the overall experience.
I’m really glad to see you here, too — because it means we are among friends.
When the banning started in full, the atmosphere changed.
People got banned for any disagreement with the writer or the mods, or even for going off topic.
Remember when they yelled at you for putting politics in the Daily Thread and anything off topic on the Presidential thread.
And….There were written rules and unwritten rules.
One could not mention LBGT agenda in a negative way or post the statistics, articles, etc. that show the horrors and dangers of the lifestyle. Even when it was in the news. That’s what got me banned. They are very Episcopalian style liberal over there. AdRem banned me the first time and ZM banned me the second time for posting CDC and military statistics on violence and diseases, etc. of those lifestyles.
I had also gotten Menagerie mad by putting what she considered political on one of her spiritual threads and got into an argument with Stella over the Natural Born Citizen issue. I also had a running half-joking disagreement with Howie over Jeff Sessions – that probably aggravated the Mgt. OT. I was obnoxious at times. Heck, even my Captain Caturday posts may have aggravated some of them.
A lot of folks went to Stella’s Place for the bacon camaraderie after the banning got intense. I don’t know what her written/unwritten rules are.
Here, the atmosphere is determined by Wolfie and Flep…and the other writers. The only way to get banned is to be nasty to other folks. We argue, but in love and peace, if that makes sense.
And now we’re here. Post like there’s no tomorrow!

GA/FL…agree with what you said…I just got tired of constantly being preached to without ceasing. If I want to read Bible verses by the hundreds…I can do it on my own. I do not mind quotes to make a point but not long dissertations day after day by a street corner preacher standing on a box. Truthfully, I found it insulting and not for me. In truth the“ clique” drove everyone out who didn’t think like them. (Like the Liberal Democrats are doing to their own) Too bad.
Wolfie lets us post Scriptures here and to preach if we feel the need. Not meant to insult you or anyone, but we are free to skip over posts we don’t like or to express our preferences and feelings about the post, but respectfully and in peace and good will.
Wolfie WILL call out anyone who berates, denigrates and disrespects others. Name-calling is a good way to get Wolfmoon to show his big teeth and snarl menacingly. He will ban folks who act like Alinsky leftists.
Lurking OT and watching the attacks play out made me very hesitant to post, so I didn’t. Wolf’s tree allows for foibles, oopies, and has such friendship among these branches that it feels welcoming. A great place to learn, and adjust fire, to stay on the correct course in this twisted time we live in!

The last few days have seemed to me to be so quiet… searching the hinterlands of the ‘internets’ I found very little news and only grumblings of “when is something happening” … after a long and unusual nap today I awoke to find a flurry of activity. I literally feel like a kid in a candystore 😉 So, instead of my usual drive-by posts I want to make a few ‘declarations’….
As we move forward in the next days and weeks, we surely have several assurances. First and foremost of course is God is helping us to bring Light to the darkness that almost destroyed our Republic. He has given us not just Donald J. Trump as POTUS, but He has given us good men and women to help in our war against evil. We don’t always recognize these ‘gifts’, some we have taken to be enemies. That’s alright though, we’re not supposed to know everything (although we sure want to 🙂 ……. It doesn’t matter if we have guessed wrong about some, all that matters is that we remain united, kind to each other… understanding of our human nature. Faith and Trust… in the Plan… is all that is required. Well, a little red-pilling now and again would be helpful.

I have no clue about science but learned in Anthropology that the climate has been changing for ever.
When the humans began agriculture that also changed climate . Silly snowflake people who are absorbed by the change in climate do not realize that anytime we change if it is our agriculture or the way we burn energy or all type of fuel that affects the atmosphere.
We all have been taught I hope about Ice ages or where seas turned into desserts. It is all there and we cannot stop weather changes atmospheric changes or?
US has done a very good job with controlling pollution it is China and India and so many other countries who get a pass. We all live on one planet so to change something we all have to change.
On the other hand I have faith that God is in control who made this planet and the Universe in a way we cannot comprehend.
I am totally at peace concerning climate changes because I lived long enough to have seen weather changes from one extreme to another.
I see more snowflakes abusing the earth than people did 50 years ago. The throwaway society that has sprung up does not seem concerned how they use and abuse what they are stuarts off.
I never uses pampers on my kids always clothe diapers. All the plastic and all the stuff today people thoughtless use I never used.
Until people who complain about climate change , change their personal ways I will not be concerned because I do my part not to ruin the atmosphere.

He should be better versed in science than he appears to be.
I have an Aero E BS and MS, and we had very little hard science: basic chemistry and qualitative analysis, all fields of basic physics, metallurgy, thermodynamics, aerodynamics and fluid flows . . . all the rest was a whole bunch of math and then applied courses (statics, strengths, dynamics and mechanical vibrations), with a ton of applications to aero E No meteorology, atmospheric physics or solar physics.
M.E. would be very similar to aero E, so Nye wouldn’t necessarily have a good background in the sciences necessary for atmospheric and solar science.
SIL is aero-astro and you are right on target bakocarl about studies being so similar to ME. Almost interchangeable for job market also.
I have a BS in M.E. (Univ of MD) and agree about the lack of atmospheric/solar science background. The only application for that background; albeit very remotely, would be in Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics requirements.
Other than that, my only qualification in that field would be because of my very good looks, I would have made an excellent Weatherman on the local news channel.

Hello all- I’m back after some time away- had to deal with a family emergency back in the US. My dad had a pretty bad fall after Easter and is still in recovery….my entire family has scrambled to be there (we live all over the US/world) and I flew back to help for a week (advocacy for his treatments, with my mom, the house, etc…) though we have a while before he’s at 100%, so I’d appreciate any extra prayers you can spare.
This group is a grounding community, and I appreciate that, even though we’ve never met one on one.
I might be quieter for a while, as my mind/heart are focused on his health, but know that I am reading and will contribute when I can.
Side note- Since traveling to Paris for Easter and then Nice last week- I’ve been noticing France increasing security and passport requirements for the Shengen area. My Mother-in-law was a gifted quilter–tiny perfect stitches!–anyway, I asked why she and her quilting circle never sold their quilts. She told me they could never charge what it was actually worth in man hours for one. Not too long after that we started seeing hand quilted items selling all over the area at really cheap prices.
They were imported from Vietnam. Someone had taught Vietnamese women to quilt and they did it well–and since they got paid about $1 an hour–they were cheap. American women couldn’t compete against that…
The sneaker thing did come out, yes…but the Enemedia quickly put it on ‘ignore’.
They didn’t want to jeopardize that sweet advert money from Nike and Adidas.
But that was before Internet Media became so widely used.

Anything hand crafted will go unsold at the price that really should be calculated. I can sell a newborn beanie for $5. The yarn costs more than that, and then there is the time invested in both developing the skill and making the actual item. Fortunately, I can get 3-4 out of a single skein depending on the size.
And don’t get me started on what people think they should pay for professional musicians to play/sing at weddings, etc. When I can actually get a gig, I make more in an hour than I used to in three days in an office.
Unfortunately those gigs are ALL weekend gigs and SEASONAL TO BOOT!
We did Wedding carriages with a pair of horses for a while. Try competing against a Limo that does not eat 365 days a year!
I still had the cost of the carriage, harness, truck, trailer and insurance on top of the cost and care of the horses. OH! and Boston has an open bottle law so if the wedding party brings booze into your carriage (which of course they do…) YOU get FINED! You also have to clean up the mess AND the SMELL!
Wedding are a real pain we found out…. AND you had better get paid UP FRONT at booking time.
Funerals, actually, can be any time of the week. I’ve sung more than one at 11 am on a Monday and not left Church because I have the noon slot for Eucharistic Adoration.
The real competition for people like me are the friend or relative “who can sing,” and personal preference. Church music used to be the bread and butter of the professional musician, and is no longer. We work ridiculous hours at Christmas and for the Triduum and Easter/Pascha, but other work can be sporadic.

A 37-year-old Navy SEAL who was denied a position with the New York City Fire Department because of his age has gotten job offers from more than a dozen fire departments from all over the country.
Shaun Donovan served four combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and is leaving the military in 2020. He applied to be a firefighter in New York City, scored in the top 1% on his entry exam, and passed a physical exam. But a background investigator told him he wasn’t eligible for the position because he was six months and 25 days too old to qualify.
Although Donovan is still fighting to gain entry into FDNY, he now has many other options.

I think the evidence is now very clear that RR “chose wisely” in the end. I will bet there is interesting testimony on the origins of the Mueller special counsel, which shielded RR from direct responsibility for it, and when laid bare show how he was manipulated into it by McCabe, Comey, Mueller and Weissmann.
I’ve had this sort of thing done to me in other worlds – it is inconceivable that it doesn’t happen in highly politicized government, too.
I don’t want to try to sound heroic here in changing my tune on Rosenstein – I’m not – but neither am I a flip-flopper. I follow the evidence as best as I can, and speculate on reasonable theories to explain what I know. In a case like this, with mushy law that could go either way (LAWFARE fertile ground), many plots are possible.
I believe that, absent Barr, RR would likely have let Mueller’s stuff stand, because from his point of view, that would be the most neutral thing for somebody who started the investigation. And THAT is the part of the plot that the LAWFARE GANG understood very deeply and COUNTED ON. That is the HINGE of their plot to GET ROSENSTEIN TO APPOINT MUELLER. Get a White Hat to appoint a Black Hat, where the White Hat becomes a Black Hat if he interferes with the Black Hat. It was EVIL GENIUS. But thanks to BARR, the PLOT WAS BROKEN.
PS – this really points out the need to CHANGE THE SPECIAL COUNSEL LAWS. There is no “accountability enforcement without accusation of obstruction”.

Gil, I had knee surgery within the past year and spent a lot of time in my surgeon’s waiting room. Every time I was there, there was a cooking competition show featuring young children. It was pretty amazing to see how creative and knowledgeable these kids were in the kitchen. Certainly not offensive to anyone watching.

This is a great point, and explains what happened to speech in America after communists grabbed effective societal control during the 1960s.
IMO freedom of speech trumps all ideas of “groups beyond criticism”. However, it also means that any assertion ABOUT a group can be questioned, no matter how many believe it, or how ingrained the idea. We really have to get back to FREE SPEECH to sort things out. Obviously the socialists, communists, and other control freak ideologies do not want that – so they create victim groups (using a variety of means, including VIOLENCE and MEDIA) to achieve this end. They are very intent on shutting down speech and the rights to self defense, etc., which stand in their way.
VICTIM GROUPS are used to create human shields who can’t be criticized (socialist technique), and then THOSE GROUPS are used as foils and projectiles to force CHANGE on everybody.
People will make arguments that a lot of things are “code” for something else, but again, these claims can and should be questioned, and FREE SPEECH allows this.
Example: the idea that “globalist” is code for “Jew”. Globalists rushed to this defense when people caught onto their danger to American ideals. That one was complete BS, and the easiest argument against it was that the vast majority of prominent globalists are in fact NOT JEWS. But notice that no globalists – Jewish or not – criticized the idea – they TOOK COVER immediately. The majority of non-Jewish globalists let the idea persist, rather than speak up for the TRUTH.
FREE SPEECH – it sorts out the TRUTH, and (IMO) submitting to TRUTH both individually and as a society is the ultimate Jewish idea, from which Judaism and Christianity sprang. But that is MY opinion and – THANK GOD – I am free to speak it.

Can you give an example of being harmed by an entire group of people? If my neighbor or employer or associate is part of a certain group and harms me, it’s not the group that did that. The only example I can think of at the moment where attributing it to an entire group might be appropriate is if the person/entity is acting on that group’s beliefs or tenets of faith (as when a Muslim kills infidels).

I have never met a Jew who voiced racism about Christians, I am German born and lived for a while among Jews in Queens NY. They were kind to me never rude. I was invited to all the festivals and even Friday evenings for dinner.
My take is I reciprocate kindness no matter who the person is if they are rich or poor, Jew or gentile , Black or white or Asian.
It is the heart that matters to me.
I am sure there is here or there a bad egg in all different types of people and religions.

We are in the midst of the peak draw of Social Security and Medicare as Baby Boomers are retiring. 2019 is when the 1954 Boomers (a particularly large group) start using Medicare.
So I take a quick look at the overall economy and the profitability of the USA. As we all know, the new Trump economy is emerging with good results. Employment is high and wage growth has been increasing. The manufacturing sector has been showing improvement. Agriculture still needs help. Retail bounced back as wages have increased. So let’s look at profitability.

So while the economy is doing well, the Federal Government is performing poorly. We are on track for one of the worst Federal deficits in history. Why? It appears that our major expenditures are debt service, Social Security and Medicare.
This cannot continue. We must tackle this immediately or we will become insolvent. The surge in Social Security and Medicare expenditures are not abating.The Fed screwed us royally and they don’t appear to want to lower rates. Instead, they grouse over expenditures as though sp!it government will agree to lower spending.
So there you have it. I put numbers behind the thoufhts so all of you can see how important this is. No one in the Financial media talks about this but it is not going away.

I’ve been watching an interview that Brian Kilmeade on Fox & Friends did with Acting Defense Sec. Shanahan. It’s 45 minutes and they have spread it out over several days.
I think I like this guy. When Brian asked him about the Pentagon being described as a soul-destroying bureaucracy, Shanahan replied, “I have a PhD in bureaucracy busting.”
He spoke a bit about his father being a high octane sort of guy and that he learned to basically keep his head down and keep working on the task at hand and not get involved in the drama (my words, not his–he was more diplomatic).
He also said that he has the skills and the drive to modernize the military, to push it towards preparing for the potential coming battles and theaters, like space. He is solidly with PDJT on Space Wars.
He comes across as quiet, bland, maybe even dull. But intelligent and goal directed. My impressions, FWIW.

I don’t know how many of you are aware of the Promise Keepers 3 million man march on DC on October 4th, 1997. It was amazing.
My son was in his late 30’s when he attended a Promise Keepers event in CA. He died at 42. He never could talk about it without choking up He said men of every color were together and just loving God. He asked me why feminists with bare breasts lined the walkways to the event taunting them and trying to stop them from going. I just told him they hate God.
I wish President Trump would use music from this event for his rallies. I still have tears running down my face as I watch and listen to these men.

Uber’s underwriters, led by Morgan Stanley, were so worried the company’s initial public offering had run into trouble, they deployed a nuclear option ahead of the deal last week, so they could provide extra support for the stock, four people with knowledge of the move said.
This level of support, known as a “naked short,” is a technique that goes above and beyond the traditional help a new offering can get.
In every deal, there’s an over allotment, which allows the underwriters to sell 115% of the available offering to investors, effectively opening a short position. The excess 15% can be purchased by the underwriters in the open market — covering the short position — to support the stock if it goes down. More colloquially, this is known as the “greenshoe.”
But in rare cases, bankers will use a strategy called a “naked short,” which allows underwriters to sell shares in excess of that greenshoe portion and then buy them back in the open market to provide even more firepower in the event there is significant selling pressure.
Some of the bankers tried to console market participants prior to the opening of trading by telling them that there would be additional support from the naked short, said one of the people, who asked not to be named discussing private conversations. The exact size of the naked short could not be learned, but it is expected to have been “fairly small,” two of the other people said.

Just as an FYI, food for thought of sorts…right across the street (Olive Boulevard in Creve Coeur) from the Bayer campus in STL county which was the world headquarters for Monsanto for decades, is a research facility known as the Danforth Plant and Life Sciences Center. It is named for Donald Danforth, grandson of the company he ran for a while (Ralston-Purina), and older brother of former Senator Jack Danforth. Their older brother Bill took the Danforth Foundation money and financed it. Behind that building is a plant and life sciences incubator for start-ups.
I could say more, but it would be a dead give away on a lot of levels. Anyway, I doubt Edgar Queeny, founder of Monsanto, would be approving of them putting a product on the market that could kill people. He was a decent man.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has launched a statewide tour to promote his health care proposals, which include requiring everyone to purchase health insurance and offering subsidies to families of four with incomes as high as $150,000 a year.
Newsom’s proposals would make California the first state in the country to help people who earn up to 600% of the federal poverty level. People could get about $100 a month to help pay their health insurance premiums.
The Democratic governor wants to pay for it by making it a law that everyone has to buy health insurance or pay a penalty. The state would use the penalty money to offer the new subsidies.

He didn’t have to “verbally destroy” anyone. If Barr participated in any ceremony at all, he was certainly capable of giving a performance where he simply went through the motions. That’s not what happened. For whatever reason, Barr was enthusiastic, kind, appreciative and grateful for Rosey’s help and service.
So either Barr is secretly Dark Helmet, or… he is an Oscar worthy actor who puts those chumps in The Godfather (Part 1) to shame.
In no way could Barr’s comments and performance have been honest, because… well, that wouldn’t fit SD’s narrative. And the narrative ALWAYS comes first. Everything else exists in SERVICE to the narrative.
It’s almost as if he has become his enemy.

I try to be compassionate about SD. No doubt he was hopeful that something would come of all the congressional investigations into “Fast & Furious”, “IRS w/ Lois Lerner”, “Benghazi”, etc. Battered Conservative Syndrome is real. How many times has SD (or the rest of us) gotten our hopes up, only to be disappointed?? SD’s problem is he doesn’t believe Q is real, and he dismisses almost everything we know about Mike Rogers and Mike Flynn. If he believe in Q and what we know, he’d be FAR more optimistic and relaxed. He’d see the bigger picture far more clearly.
You are being kind and generous. Perhaps when I have calmed down a bit more I’ll join you on that branch. My heart tells me you’re right, but my feathers are still a bit fussed.

Before I saw your piece, I started reading Some Dude’s little essay. I got about a third of the way through and had to check myself. Why is my brow furrowed? Why am I feeling nauseated? What is wrong?
So I stopped reading and took a deep breath. Deliberated on whether to go forward or stop. Decided to go back to the top and start over, this time with my freshly cleaned critical viewing glasses on and I read carefully.
I came to the same conclusion you did, although nowhere near as well analyzed or clearly delineated. I was disgusted. I thought about saying something here, and then I thought. No. No. No. Just shut the front door and rise above it.

Sylvia, I can picture the scene, your reading and the feelings it evoked. Haven’t been there for several days, and was confused at first with what Scott was writing. I simply couldn’t take in that OT’s perception was that negative or so different from other respected observers from our side.
In my simple-thinking view of things – if we have to twist ourselves into a pretzel to come up with a theory, then maybe we’re doing it wrong. OT’s post sounded like a pretzel.
I simply take things as they come. Nothing we’ve seen this week says we’re losing. POTUS himself appears to be quite pleased. AG Barr – that’s a legal mind who will slice and dice them all. Had known nothing about him until now. “They got rid” of him in the early 90’s because he wanted to enforce the law, now he’s chance to rectify and clean shop.
The community OT, except for a very few, want to be negative, we don’t.
It doesn’t come easy for me. I’m more of a pessimist than an optimist. However, there came a point about a year ago when I had to just shake myself mentally and accept there is little I can do about the coup except to pray.
So I try to keep up with the facts so I can help others IRL understand what is happening, and I pray and make an effort to leave my worries with God.
I’m not a pollyanna or a fool and I value honest discussions, but the gloom and doom does a disservice to our side. Our people need to be strengthened and encouraged not burdened with despair and disillusionment. This is a war and we need to fight it on ALL levels.
I fail to see why the facts and theories can’t be presented without the soupcon of darkness that undermines any overt MAGA themes.

I’m with you Scott. AG Barr, a man of actually few words, made it a point to note the farewell ceremony was held in the “Grand Hall” – that’s an honor above and beyond… along with his deliberate poking fun at the MSM (“deadpan winner”) and his very noticeable appreciation to Rosenstein in his remarks. Sessions was there as well.
Protocols are followed – but there is the low-end ceremonial sendoff and then there’s the high-end send off. RR got the high end.
I remarked a few days ago, that RR’s discharge from his duties to AG Barr, and POTUS were reminiscent of days of old, when a Royal conferred favor on a Knight who had done the King a great service. That’s why I keep thinking of the “Great Hall.”
And once again, let me remind everyone that Sessions was called back to receive, ceremoniously, his Cabinet chair. Didn’t look like anyone was having trouble being around him.

Absolutely right, Marica. It is simply a matter of reading body language. When people are uncomfortable with someone, or the person is tainted, or you know your neighbor is having an affair with another neighbor, there’s a natural air of restraint and smiles/interactions will be limited.

Yes, LP, this is incredibly revealing to me, exactly for the reasons you put forth. I spent enough time in these kinds of environments to know there is a big difference between sending someone off who is in disgrace and someone going out with warm wishes. What we saw was the latter.
