DEAR MAGA: TGIF Open Thread 20221118

Mullled Wine

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (750 ml) fruity red wine
  • 1 cup brandy
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 medium orange, sliced
  • 1 medium lemon, sliced
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cinnamon sticks (3 inches)
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon aniseed
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole peppercorns
  • 3 whole cloves
  • Optional garnishes: Orange slices, star anise and additional cinnamon sticks

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the first 6 ingredients. Place remaining spices on a double thickness of cheesecloth. Gather corners of cloth to enclose spices; tie securely with string. Place in pan.
  2. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat; simmer gently, covered, 20 minutes. Transfer to a covered container; cool slightly. Refrigerate, covered, overnight.
  3. Strain wine mixture into a large saucepan, discarding fruit and spice bag; reheat. Serve warm. Garnish, if desired, with orange slices, star anise or additional cinnamon sticks.

TGIF is right this week.

Bloody Mary

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon sea salt, or as needed
  • ice cubes, as needed
  • ¾ cup spicy tomato-vegetable juice cocktail (such as V8®)
  • 1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger vodka
  • 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 dash hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®)
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 2 garlic-stuffed green olives, threaded onto a toothpick

Directions

  1. Pour salt onto a small plate. Moisten the rim of a glass and press into the salt. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes; add vegetable juice cocktail, vodka, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce, salt, and pepper. Cover and shake until the outside of shaker has frosted, about 20 seconds.
  3. Strain Bloody Mary into the prepared glass and garnish with celery stalk and olives.

It’s called a shot across the bow and it’s in response to what Trump has been hearing is going on behind his back, which more than a half of dozen donors and scores of sitting congressman have told me is true.

What’s the root cause of the US proxy war in Ukraine? Most people don’t have a clue. Let me explain.

It all started after the 2007-2008 financial crisis that originated in the US. The reliability of the US Govt as a partner in global financial affairs was destroyed. 

In 2009 Russia hosted the first BRICS summit to establish a better international financial system with China, India, Brazil, South Africa and later with future BRICS+ partners. In short a new “multipolar order”. BRICS is challenging the US Dollar reserve currency status. 

That started a new Cold War with Russia and China. US National Debt is now at $31 trillion, total US Debt is at $92 trillion and total US unfunded liabilities are at $172 trillion and all of that without any US Govt surplus to pay for any of it. Only more Debt and money printing. 

The US Govt knows that without the reserve currency status it is bankrupt. Without money printing on the backs of other nations it’s simply Game Over for the US. But not just for the US. The EU and most western democracies followed the US model of endless Debt and money printing. 

That’s why they stand with the US and support the escalating actions that seem totally illogical to most people. Why is the EU sacrificing prosperity for a US proxy war in Ukraine? Because if the US is collapsing they collapse too. Their alliance is glued by the fear of failure.

The brilliantly sanctimonious (or maybe not) DeSantis video is truly a gift to both DeSantis and Trump, although that may be hard for some to see. The TRUTH of the message cannot be missed, and if anything, the message is understated, as all of us thank God for Ron DeSantis. Honestly, I get choked up watching that video. EVERY single time.

I’ll say it right here. Thank GOD for Ron DeSantis.

But is it too much? Well, the TRUTH of the message exceeds the message – so no real misstep there. When you “get chills” watching that video, it’s for a reason. And yet, the more you watch it, the more you realize that we should not be afraid to invoke the name of God. Not in truth. And every word of that video is true.

It’s BOLD is what it is.

When it’s not hypocritical – when it’s bold and true – then it cannot be sanctimonious.

AND YET…..

I’m sure the video does appear to be sanctimonious to some. It did to me, at first. I think that’s part of the genius of it. We are drawn into the truth of it.

Interestingly, I think the video also serves as a statement of principle to “The Club”.

A Caution

Yes, it’s great that one of the most rancid cunts in US politics is destined to leave office on January 3rd of next year, having been primaried out…by a great big (but not big enough) margin.

But just remember…we might replace the RINO candidates. But that will make no difference in the long run if the party officials, basically the Rhonna McDaniels (or however that’s spelled), don’t get replaced.

State party chairs, vice chairs, secretaries and so on, and the same at county levels, have huge influence on who ultimately gets nominated, and if these party wheelhorses are RINOs, they will work tirelessly to put their own pukey people on the ballot. In fact I’d not be surprised if some of our “MAGA” candidates are in fact, RINO plants, encouraged to run by the RINO party leadership when they realized that Lyn Cheney (and her ilk) were hopelessly compromised as effective candidates. The best way for them to deal with the opposition, of course, is to run it themselves.

Running good candidates is only HALF of the battle!

The Times‘s Hiroko Tabuchi reported that the CLEAR Center, which hosts Mitloehner’s blog and supports his research, is funded in part by a group called IFEEDER (Institute for Feed Education and Research), a nonprofit associated with the American Feed Industry Association. The implication, never stated, is that Mitloehner’s scholarship is compromised by the center’s industry donors.

Mitloehner is a regular critic of activist scholarship that seeks to tear down the American agricultural industry. Instead of trying to end cattle ranching and replace it with cricket farming, he works with farmers to change their feeding practices and lower their carbon footprint. He is a proponent of reform, not revolution.

“People want us to go on record that animal agriculture should fade away or be significantly reduced, but that’s not our charge or our place,” Mitloehner said on his blog. “Our mission is simply to reduce animal agriculture’s impact on our climate and environment, and to do that, we must work with the people who are raising the food that feeds us all.”
