According to the complaint, Nancy told detectives that Johnson sold the child to an individual for $10,000 and asked her to complete the dropoff.
Nancy said he showed her a photo of a black woman she was supposed to meet and asked her to drive the toddler “20 minutes” from a gas station in Monroeville along US Route 22 to meet the woman, the complaint says.

Nancy told police she also saw a second woman inside the SUV.
Nancy said she then drove around, smoked cigarettes and talked on the phone with her husband, the complaint said.
Nancy, who is being held without bail at the Allegheny County jail, was arraigned on Monday after being charged with kidnapping of a minor, interference with custody of children and concealment of whereabouts of a child. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 16.
CNN was unable to identify or reach an attorney for Nancy.
Nalani’s grandmother, Taji Walsh, told CNN affiliate KDKA that Nancy’s account of the events is not true. Her son, whom she calls “PJ,” is Nalani’s father.
“If the police felt that PJ was in any way involved, he wouldn’t be walking freely, he’d be locked somewhere up like she is,” she said.
The police press release said Nalani is 2 years old, but the website for The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, missingkids.org, said she’s 23 months old, with her second birthday on September 15. She’s about 3 feet tall and weighs about 30 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, according to missingkids.org.
Representatives of Uber did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.
Dana Davis, a communications manager for Lyft, told CNN that while this incident did not happen on the Lyft platform, they have banned Nancy from driving with Lyft, adding that the allegations were “deeply disturbing”

It may seem like flogging a dead horse, but for those of us who are divers, there is a certain drive to analyse things to great detail.
A large part of this is due to the fundamental nature of SCUBA — you never directly address problems, you merely offset them with their opposites. Water is cold? Encircle yourself with water and keep it from moving until your body heat warms it. That means you float? Strap lead weights around your waist to compensate. What if the lead weighs the same, but your wetsuit doesn’t float as well when compressed? Wear an inflatable vest (a “BC”, or “Buoyancy Compensator”) to adjust for all that lead you’re wearing. The pressure of seawater at depth squeezing all the air out of your lungs? Stick an inflater hose in your mouth to inflate yourself. The inflater hose bubbles all the time? Put a regulator on it. People have a tendency to explode when surfacing from depth holding their breath? Exhale while ascending [even if you’re ascending because you’re out of air].
You’re constantly doing a string of MacGyver kludges — any one of which could upset the delicate balance you’d previously held…..and your life depends on getting it right.
I got my NAUI C-card from Hank Ketels, who is NAUI instructor #68 or something. OLD SCHOOL. I did an ESA (Emergency Swimming Ascent) drill from about 75 feet. In the last 33 feet, the amount of air in your lungs DOUBLES in volume. So, at 75 feet, feeling like a fool, you take a last breath, hold it for a beat, and start swimming upward….going “bubble, bubble, bubble”. Around 50 feet, you’re unexpectedly going, “BUBBLE, BUBBLE, BUBBLE”. Around 30 feet, you’re doing a steady exhalation. And in the last 30 feet, you’re going, “VRAAAAAAAAARF”.
SCUBA teaches you that Laws of Physics aren’t just suggestions, and they have real consequences. They also ensure that you value situational awareness.

Catalina has beaches, and Anacapa has significant beaches, but most of Santa Cruz is cliffs into the water.

I know and love similar people. I’ve taken similar trips. I’ve been on similar boats. I may have actually dived off of THAT BOAT (on a 1-day) many years ago. This catastrophe must be thoroughly understood, and measures taken.
Dive shops up n down the coast are shocked from what ive read, dt the boat owner being generally very professional.
Best part – I’m hoping divers are RELENTLESS in understanding it, b/c there will be a good chance of cover-up if there is negligence or criminality involved.

Speaking as somebody who has dealt with such moralities in other contexts. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can be deadly. It sounds like the dive community has the same basic mentality that the amusement park industry does: it’s no fun if people die. That’s why the industry standards are amazingly high and self driven. It really sounds like they take safety seriously.
From what cthulhu tells us, divers have the kind of smarts that can put physics to work like test pilots and NASCAR drivers. Surviving a boat fire…. I wasn’t there, but the accounts are fishy, that’s for sure – and my extent of boating is steering a canoe and working a jib on a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay.

I do not dive but some of the cavers I know did and two of the guys I dated did. I have also ‘free dove’ cave sumps and spent hours ‘babysitting’ the dive boat, in the finger lakes in the middle of winter. 🙄
With diving there is very little room for error. With cave diving there is NO ROOM for error. Therefore divers are fanatics when it comes to their equipment and safety. This spills over into all areas of their lives.

He lost sight of God’s promise, and he panicked. Rather than turning to God in faith and seeking His help, Abraham trusted in his own wisdom and made a plan. And according to his plan, he and Sarah traveled to Egypt to escape the famine that threatened their safety in Bethel.

Through it all, we see God’s grace in redirecting Abraham when he misses the mark.
So much can go wrong when you begin to trust in Egypt to save you, whatever your Egypt may be. Your Egypt may be your net worth, your financial portfolio, or a relationship. Whatever it is, you will find that the moment you place your faith and trust in that idol instead of God, your intimacy with Him will go by the wayside. Your personal affection toward God and His people will become cold and icy, and your walk with the Lord distant.

Abraham’s experience may sound disheartening to those of us who have fallen short time and time again. Yet through it all, we see God’s grace in redirecting Abraham when he misses the mark, and we see how Abraham learns from these experiences and grows into the man of faith extolled in Hebrews 11.
Have you allowed your circumstances to drive your attention from the promises of God to the worries that surround you? If so, it’s never too late to turn back to God. Just as God showed grace and mercy to Abraham, He will do the same for you. He cares about you more than you know, and He stands ready to answer your prayer.
Prayer: Father, forgive me for not trusting You when I am faced with difficulty. I long for my security to be rooted in You. May I cling to Your Word and Your promises, relishing Your grace and mercy. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
